THIS WEEK
The No. 10 Utah Men’s Golf team will head to Carmel-By-The-Sea, Calif., after taking a couple of weeks off for The Preserve Golf Club Collegiate on Oct. 28-29. It’ll be the last tournament of the fall season for the Utes after competing in four tournaments previously.

It’s the first time in program history that the Utes will compete in the Preserve Golf Club Collegiate tournament after hitting the links in California last for the NCAA Championships in Carlsbad to close the book on last season.

The Preserve Golf Club has been named as one of America’s Top 100 Greatest Golf Courses by Golf Digest and has been marked as the best in California course for 14 consecutive years.

LAST TIME OUT

The Utes last competed at the Big 12 Match Play tournament in Hockley, Texas, on Oct. 7-9 for the first time since joining the conference. Utah finished second in Group C with a key win over No. 11 seed Houston before defeating No. 9 seed Cincinnati to secure the 7th place spot on the team leaderboard.

IN THE RANKS

The Utes have climbed the ranks over the course of the season, sliding into the No. 10 rank in the latest NCAA Scoreboard rankings. It’s the highest ranking in program history for Utah. The Utes are one of three Big 12 programs inside the top 10 alongside No. 3 Arizona State and No. 9 Oklahoma State. In the individual rankings, sophomore Sergio Jimenez ranks No. 14 in the country, only one of two Big 12 golfers inside the top 15 with Arizona State’s Josele Ballester (No. 3).

THE FIELD

Utah will hit the links with 11 other teams alongside the coast of California, the lone program representing the Big 12. The Utes will face off against host Cal Poly, reigning tournament champion Cal, Colorado State, Long Beach State, Grand Canyon, Fresno State, Loyola Marymount, Oregon, Oregon State, San Diego State, and No. 15 UCLA.

UTAH’S LINE-UP

Six golfers will take on the field in California’s central coast as the same lineup as the previous 54-hole tournaments is set to compete. On Utah’s card, Sergio Jimenez, Braxton Watts, Davis Johnson, Brandon Robison, and Gabriel Palacios will cover team duties while Peter Jung will compete as an individual.
