How much does it cost to stay and play Black Desert golf course in Utah?

Ivins • So, you want to play the new Black Desert golf course, huh?

It’s certainly nice. Cut out from ancient lava rock and hemmed in by Zion’s redrock cliffs, the scenery overwhelms you at every turn.

But we have to warn you: It’s going to cost a pretty penny.

We took a look around the resort when the PGA Tour stopped in southern Utah for the Black Desert Championship. We’ll let you decide whether it’s worth it — walking you through what a day at Black Desert would cost.

Black Desert is more than a golf course, it is an expansive resort that will eventually have over 3,000 rooms to stay in. It is set to be the largest hospitality and resort center in the state when it is fully open (although construction on the property won’t be complete for several years).

The resort has standard hotel rooms, condos, a family village and a golf village. Each price range is different.

If you are just a solo golfer looking for a room, that will run you about $400 a night (technically $399).

For Utah residents, there is a deal running through March that gives you 50% off. So, a standard room can cost about $199 for now.

The property also features million dollar condos that can be rented out on a nightly basis.

If you’re looking for a two- or three-bedroom rental in the family village, you are looking at between $1,000 and $1,500 a night.

At this time, most of the village has not been built yet. The plan is for a three-year completion of the golf and family village. About 250 rooms are currently open at the hotel.

So you wake up from your room and want to grab something to eat before your round.

There will be 20 restaurants onsite at Black Desert. Five are open right now, plus a few bars.

The main breakfast area for grab-and-go food is called Lava Love — named after the predominant feature of the golf course. It is open at 6 a.m. and serves breakfast sandwiches and coffee. If you want a latte, cappuccino or mocha, that would be $5.

A bacon, egg and cheese sandwich can go to $9. A yogurt costs $7 and a fruit cup is $6. If you opt for a muffin or a croissant, that is between $6 and $7.

Lunch is also on the menu if you want an Italian wrap; it is $15. A standard salad is the same.

The greens fee is $300 to play 18 holes.

Now, Black Desert lists several different ways to get on the course. You can be a “non-resort guest” or you can be accompanied by a member. Either way, the price remains the same. Similarly, it won’t impact the price if you’re staying on the property or not.

You must have a caddy on this course. The resort suggests tipping $40-50 at the end of the round.

You’ve already eaten breakfast and gone through nine holes. But what if you want a snack or a drink at the turn?

On the course, there are a few restaurants or pit stops to get drinks. There is a place called Oasis as you walk to the back nine. During the tournament, they were serving items like a crispy chicken sandwich, Caesar salad, fish and chips and cookies.

While prices were not listed there, generally the sandwiches around the course ranged $14-to-$18.

The crispy chicken sandwiches were going for $17. An Angus beef burger was $16. Tacos were in the $13 range. They were offering braised pork barbecue sandwiches for $15.

During this month’s Black Deseret Championship, a Michelob Ultra was $12. A Tito’s transfusion, a cocktail with vodka, grape juice and ginger ale, was $16. They were also selling a “Fairway Margarita” — lime juice tequila and agave syrup — for $16.

Your $350 round is over, lunch is done, and now you are funneled to the pro shop. This is where the prices can vary depending on what you are looking for (but none of it is cheap).

If you want a memento — like a Black Desert ball marker — that would be $19.

If you want a hat, that is going to cost you somewhere between $35 and $49. A visor costs $35. A bucket hat is $39.

A children’s polo is about $89 and an adult polo can run $135.

The most niche item at the pro shop is probably a Black Desert scented candle. That goes for $39 a pop.
