England’s Liz Young wins second LET title

England’s Liz Young won the Women’s Indian Open 2024 golf tournament to register her second win on the Ladies European Tour (LET) on Sunday.

Young, who won her maiden LET title at the Swiss Ladies Open two years back, carded two-under 286 over the four rounds at the DLF Golf and Country Club in Gurugram, Haryana to claim her second crown.

The Englishwoman began the final golf round trailing Belgium’s Manon De Roey and fellow Brit Alice Hewson by one shot. However, with both Day 3 co-leaders fumbling on the final day, Young edged ahead to win the tournament by one shot.

Hewson endured a disastrous fourth round, carding seven over 79, to finish T11. A triple bogey on the 18th hole proved detrimental.

De Roey did slightly better to card a two-over 74 and shared second place with Singapore’s Shannon Tan, France’s Agathe Sauzon and Kiwi golfer Momoka Kobori, all of whom did brilliantly on the final day to surge up the leaderboard.

Young’s par 72 on the day, laden with a birdie in the 15th and a bogey in the 18th, was, however, enough to see her edge out the chasing pack by a single stroke. The English golfer was placed T12 after the opening two rounds but soared up the standings on the back of a solid five-under 67 in the third round.

Among the Indian golfers in action on home soil, amateur golfer Mannat Brar recorded the best finish at T11 with a four-over score. Pranavi Urs and Hitaashee Bakshi shared the 15th position.

Two-time Olympian and LET winner Diksha Dagar had a disappointing outing, finishing T38 with a score of 12-over. She struggled on the opening day (six over) and the third round (eight over).

Only nine of the 27 Indian golfers who started the tournament made the cut for the weekend rounds.

Tvesa Malik (T26), Ridhima Dilawari and Vani Kapoor (T31), Ananya Garg (T46) and Janneya Dasanniee (T59) were the other five.

India’s Aditi Ashok and Indian Open 2023 champion Aline Krauter of Germany did not compete this year.
