Once upon a time, the Detroit Lions were the NFL’s worst team, coming off the first winless season of the 16-game era. Their playoff win drought was old enough to see an R-rated movie, and rooting for them felt like an exercise in frustration.
That was, until they secured one quarterback from the Georgia Bulldogs. Suddenly, a historically bad franchise became must see TV every week. He wouldn’t know it yet, but he’d have a polarizing, underrated career that’s seen more favorable critical reevaluation as the years go by.
This is the story of quarterback Matthew Stafford, his journey to spread hope in Detroit, and the chaos it created.

Stafford did nothing but give it all he had. Even in the END, he gave Detroit a bunch of picks and another 1st round QB on the way out the door to help them start their new chapter.
I live in Michigan but grew up as Rams fan, I used to watch Lions games and would tell the guys that Stafford could win a title if the organization could get it together. Think about all that had to occur to turn that WHOLE franchise around, they had to FIRE everyone and start over, a complete rebuild…he just didn't think he had it in him to endure another one, a whole new system…he had already been though SO much by that time. That super bowl year showed what pairing him with a really good, complete team and a REALLY GOOD coach could do.
When he finally hangs them up, he'll get his gold jacket. I think he's got ONE more title in him, also.
My favorite moment of the video is @16:50.
Jim Bob Cooter line had me dying lmfao
LOVE your videos and your style. keep going !
Johnny was a bum when he was here. Padded his stats on weekly basis. So happy when we traded him
Rams fan. Always grateful for Stafford. Just hope things come full circle and he gets love from Lions fans when he does hang it up.
That playoff loss @ Dallas is still one of the worst if not the worst robberies of all time
You are way too good at this to only have 5k subs. Ur channel is sick bro
It wasn't a knee injury that ended his season two weeks after that Browns game. It was his shoulder and he didn't play the rest of the season after that game.
Just like with Barry Sanders we never had a defense for him
This why I don’t understand why new Lions fans try to clown Stafford in favor of Goff. Not only was Stafford bettter on a way worse team, he was tougher, and as an inner-city Detroiter he WAS Detroit.

Rams fan here, I’m legitimately so happy both teams have won the trade
Matt is my favorite all time Lions quarterback! Imagine if the Lions had a team like they do now for him! GO LIONS!
If eli manning makes it to the hall stafford definitely should too
It's so bittersweet to look at our team now. I love Goff and if not for the Stafford trade our rebuild wouldn't have been so successful, but just IMAGINE Stafford with our current O-line, defense, and run game….good lord man
“the lions were going up against top defenses… and the chargers” 😭
The to biggest mistake the lions made with stafford was firing Caldwell and not drafting Aaron Donald
If you're in the top 10 all time in passing yards and soon to be passing TD's, just based on longevity you should be in the HOF. IMO everyone in that top 10 is a HOFer. The only reason Stafford doesn't have more accolades is because he was playing at the same time as 7 of those guys on that list.
You blurred the hit on stafford? Soft or?
The reason the flag against the cowboys was picked up was because Dez Bryant went on the field to argue it. Not only is that a penalty since he was on the field without a helmet but it was also a blatant pass interference that should’ve never been overturned. Also karma that the “Dez caught it” fiasco happened immediately after
That playoff game vs the cowboys made me quit watching football for a little bit. I remember they hurried up, and ran a play after that flag. To prevent the refs from going back, they snapped the ball, and it was out of their reach to do anything to overturn the penalty. I was wrong as fuck though, after the second down play from that set of downs- They basically acted like it never happened ,then the refs picked the flag back up. They brought it back to that 4th down like the 1st down from the penalty. It wasn't just because it was a bullshit pickup on an obvious penalty. It was that they did it when it when the down of the penalty was not the previous play.
For those wondering why I censored the hits from the 09 Browns game, did it in case it got the video demonetized, so wanted to be better safe than sorry. Otherwise I’d show the hit.
Tons of misinformation, a million bad takes, just overall a terrible job. Megatron isn't named Megatron because he played like an Android The character Megatron isn't even an Android you didn't bother to look the most basic s*** up.
lol you did need to blur the hit vs the browns. it wasnt that brutal
Part of the reason Stafford was upset at Detroit fans was because a bunch of them decided to boo not just him but Kelly AND their children. As a Detroit fan myself that was so uncalled for and embarrassing and i dont blame him for being pissed about it
Bro, we ain’t that anymore.
You’re insane to say that Stafford was underappreciated. At least if you mean from a fan perspective, because we rolled with that dude and celebrated him winning a damn Super Bowl with a completely different team.
Of course as a lions, fan I believe Stafford is well overdue for HOF talks. But of course as a lions fan, I’m going to boo him when he faces the Lions.
Nothing more vindicating in my years of watching football then watching my fav qb go from "stat padford" to superbowl champion. He should get a gold jacket for shutting the haters up in one season.
I don't mean to be a hater. I like the writing and topics, but can you chill with the oil paint filter?
There was a lot of frustration, but there was also the sense that more often than not, Stafford would do the impossible. Like when Todd Gurley accidentally scored and left time on the clock for Stafford, you had the sense as a fan that the game was in hand, even though he still had to drive the length of the field. The basic blue print was start pretty well, do nothing in the second and third quarters, then steal the game at the end of the 4th. It was always exciting, but it just wasn't a good recipe for sustained success.
To this day I’m still waiting on an explanation for why that flag was picked up in Dallas 🤔
Everyone has been saying "I wish Lions fans would be humble like they used to." When really all they want is for us to be a dumpster fire so they can make fun of us and we can't say anything back
