Grip issues.

What could he wrong in my grip that causes this circled area to wear down extremely quicky? I think it might be excess grip strength but I seem to be holding it loosely in my fingers, maybe I should go softer.

What kind of grips are you using on your club? I would imagine that some might wear out the leather on gloves faster than others.

Would have to see the grip. Is a bit of your hand off the grip? I can see the butt of the grip rubbing there but only if you were to be gripped abnormally high. Or the grip is just really wonky and you’re making too much contact to the grip where you shouldn’t

Grip the club with your finger tips, not your palm.

I run the shaft handle from the first pad of my little finger to the second pad of my index finger. The wear for me is much lower on the glove, closer to the little finger. I used to grip it more in the palm and I would get wear right where the circle is. Went through more gloves.

If it’s not mishits it’s the direction that you are releasing the club. As an instructor I default to saying “your gripping it too hard. But you say you aren’t. So it’s a tough one to dissect. So many people are what we call “handle lifters” I do it a bit. We throw the release hard and centrifugal force causes the club and arms to form a straight line. That lifts the handle or “grip”. It puts tension on the upper part of the grip and hands. Everyone wears out this spot. There is one spot you have that has the highest grip pressure while swinging. That’s your spot. Some strangle it with the right hand and wear the grip where the right thumb is. Your grip pressure always goes up during the swing. It’s ok. It goes up so we don’t let go of the club gripping it so lightly. Which is correct btw.

Look at Rory. He doesn’t do it much but he still does it. This is also why you check lie angle at impact. We don’t return exactly where we were at address. Hands up and forward, shaft flex causes the toe to droop down, low point is behind the ball(driver only). That’s my guess. It’s this plus your grip pressure goes up when you release.

I hope that helps. It’s a hard one unless I’ve got you in a lesson to take a look.

In a nutshell. Don’t sweat it. If contact is good and ball flight is good. There’s no real issue unless your hand is hurting from it.
