Strokes Gained is for the Pros – USELESS FOR YOU AND ME

As you may be able to tell, I don’t believe in this Strokes gained stuff. In fact, I only researched a little about it and may be getting it totally wrong.

My editing software:

Yes, I understand we can all “gain” some strokes here and there by improving some things in our game but there is no magic formula for handicap golfers to be able to benchmark against someone else.

We have a wide range of handicaps and abilities and skills. We are not robots and we are not able to do the same thing over and over on command like a pro. These stats were designed for the PGA Tour website and to compare players against the rest of the field.

This is the fundamental break down in golf. We aren’t pros, we can’t play like pros and we do not benefit from the same strategies and techniques the pros use…EXCEPT for the short game. We can be AS GOOD AS THE pros with a wedge and a putter.

Focus on the chipping club and the putter being SHARP! Once that is in place, plan your tee shots to leave you YOUR favorite club into greens.

A lot of people may think the closer you are to the green, the easier golf is. Not true. I can hit a 125 yard 50° shot to 3 feet WAY more often than I can a 60 yard partial lob wedge.

As amateurs, we all have our go-to clubs. They are usually 5-6 clubs we know we can lean on n any given situation. It may be 3 or 4 different shots with just one club that we can pull off.

Those are the shots that make up 80% of your game and hitting longer clubs off the tees to put yourself in weird, awkward positions for you is going to hurt you. You’ll need to go fully develop 3-4 new shots to now cope with the new approaches. Not only that, but are e all so consistent with the driver or long clubs in our bags? I don’t know about that.

Play your game, play to your strengths, update your skills as necessary and just keep pluggin away at hitting the most stress free and simple shot in any given situation.

BE YOURSELF, IT’S ALL THAT YOU CAN BE – AUDIOSLAVE

I want you to enjoy golf and relax and play it for what it is…a relaxing game with your buds. I want you to feel motivated to get out there and jam more than ever. I don’t ever want you to quit the game. We need to see through the gobbledygook and understand the intentions behind feeding you Strokes Gained. The one video I watched, it was pretty clear the intention behind it…..
