Asheville, NC – Public Course now Lake

This is the Broadmoor Golf Links in Fletcher, NC. Best public course in the area and the only 400 yard range in western NC for the big hitters. They had just over-seeded and the course was in its best ever condition. While golf is the last thing on people’s minds here right now, seeing this course disappear under the water makes clear how bad this situation is.

I live in the desert and that’s more water than I’ve ever seen in my life besides the ocean.

My heart goes out to all you in Asheville. Golfers and non golfers. So scary and fucked up what happened. My family just spent our yearly trip to Asheville at lake lure and chimney rock back in march… was in disbelief at the pictures of chimney rock. Played out at rumbling bald too. Hopefully be back next spring.

  3. Thatʻs what every course with water hazards looks like to my clubs.

  4. I was in Asheville for a month this summer, ironically to avoid gulf coast weather. I didn’t play Broadmoar but I played the Asheville Municipal course a lot. They had just completed a massive improvement project and you could tell people were really proud about it. Really sad to think about all that work undone. Should go without saying that there are far far bigger issues than golf courses, but still really bummed thinking about it.

Dumb guy here with a dumb guy question – will this eventually dry out on its own or is it time to build a dock & sell jet skis at the car dealership?

Edit: good luck to all affected. My aunt lives in the mountains near Nebo and they’ve been without power & cell service since the storm hit. Nature is scary.

The magnitude of what happened is at a minimum 10x worse than anything I have seen on any type of news coverage so far. It goes far and beyond the river and floods. The hills were annihilated. One of my closest friends lives just outside the city and my heart goes out to your community. I hope there is a silver lining somewhere in the rebuilding/recovering process.

Absolutely tragic what has happened to Western North Carolina.

I couldn’t play that course though. The airplanes constantly landing and taking off right across the street, and the interstate on the otherside. I shot my personal worst there.

Country Club of Asheville was incredible. It seems most courses in the area are gone now.

  9. I wonder if the sprinklers are still on schedule…
