Team US Win 10th Straight Presidents Cup

The United States continued its historical dominance of the Presidents Cup beating the International team 18.5 to 11.5 at Royal Montreal Golf Club.

The US has now won 13 times in the 15 playings of the Cup since its inception in 1994. The lone International victory came in Australia in 1998, while the 2003 event in South Africa was tied.

The US started the week by far the stronger team on paper, with all 12 players ranked among the top 25 in the world, compared with only four of the International team.

Australian Adam Scott (2-3-0) performed reasonably on a personal level, but that was scant consolation as he played on his 10th losing team in a row.

🏆 Who’s The MVP? Several players scored well during the match, but following the fifth and final session, the Sunday singles, three players finished joint top of the points scoring with four apiece – and they’re all Team US players.

Xander Schauffele, Collin Morikawa and Patrick Cantlay all accumulated four points in five sessions of play.

Another notable haul on the US team is the 3.5 secured by Burns – the only player on the US team who went undefeated, while two others, Scheffler and Russell Henley, won three points.

For the Internationals, points were a lot harder to come by, with six players reaching two – Scott, Conners, Matsuyama, Pendrith, Christiaan Bezuidenhout and Si Woo Kim. For Scott in particular, his Friday foursomes win alongside Pendrith against Morikawa and Theegala will have been particularly sweet as it made him the all-time leading points scorer for the International Team.

Between the 24 players on both teams, only one player didn’t register any points. Brian Harman played in three of the five sessions, but he lost them all, with his final chance coming and going with a 2&1 defeat to Bezuidenhout in the Sunday singles.
