To hit driver straight and long I get my students to avoid this popular advice and instead do this. So many golfers with a perfectly good golf swing can’t hit driver straight and never hit driver long because they take away the one thing that adds speed and accuracy to their driver swing.
In this golf lesson Danny Maude shows you how to hit driver straight every time by first showing you why 90% of golfers can’t hit driver straight…so many fall into the same trap of following advice like closing the club face if you slice the ball. This could actually make your slice worse!
Once his students understand this learning how to hit driver straight becomes so much easier

ABOUT DANNY
———————–
Thanks for stopping by. I created this website as a resource just for you to support you on your golfing journey as I know how tricky learning this game can be…to say the least!
I personally found learning the game too long and difficult in the early days. I read all the books, watched all the videos but my game was not improving. Then after studying various forms of neuro science, motor learning, psychology and personal development in less than two years I went from struggling golfer to the final stage of the Open Championship.
On YouTube and my personal website (www.dannymaude.com) I will bring you the most up to date training, training that is getting tangible results for my clients right now. I don’t know where you are in your golfing journey, you could be just starting out or maybe your body isn’t as flexible as it once was or you’ve got ambitions to slash your handicap. Wherever you are I’ve created a place here you can learn, share your ideas, ask questions and get all the support you need to enjoy this great game.
Be prepared though. If it’s a quick fix you are after Im not your man. Here I will give you step-by-step advice that you can take straight to the practice ground and apply to the course but it will require you to get stuck in, screw up…a lot, practice some more and then watch those scores tumble
I’ve had the pleasure of coaching thousands of students all around the world and if you are up for the challenge and are ready to get in the game…LETS GO TO WORK!

This golf lesson provides a couple of wonderful drills to help you hit your driver straight. If you are a beginner golfer and are looking for some golf driver tips that are simple and easy to do then you are going to love this.
I will show you the golf swing slow motion so that you can see what you need to do to improve.
We look at 3 things:
1. How to stop slicing your driver
2. How to swing more in to out or how to swing more inside out
3, How to get the correct impact position with driver
and I hope to do all this with simple golf tips so you can create an effortless golf swing

I have a launch monitor, and, no matter WHAT I DID, I was slicing the ball. Path going-out to the right? Slice. Path going out to the left? Slice. Path neutral? Slice.
I was at my wits end.
Then, I realized I was cupping my wrists to create MORE EXTENSION in the backswing. It is a very difficult thing to STOP doing.
Great lesson Danny. I fall into old habits occasionally so it is good advice to remember.
I did not have a wonderful golf week. I felt so awkward and uncoordinated that I'm surprised I could even tie my shoes. But, I've got a Monday morning tee time where I'm going to try again.
I would love to see this from overhead to see the swing path from a more relatable perspective
GOAT
1st vid ive seen and amazing!! super useful thanks
As a left-hander, I have to flip everything in my mind from side to side, but it is pretty clear what causes the slice. For me when I take my practice swings, I can watch the head flash by next to the ball, and sometimes I see it go by straight, and sometimes I see it go by at a bit of an angle. So for me, that's likely why I sometimes slice and sometimes it goes pretty straight.
Not sure if you’re aware Danny, but My Golf Spy has you in the top 10 of YouTube golf instruction. 🎉
Congratulations!
Danny, thanks for an excellent video! I have one follow up question. While I set up with the club handle leaning forward and pointing to my lead hip, sometimes at impact I have lost the forward lean and the handle is pointed to my chest or right shoulder, resulting in a weak and possibly topped shot. Are there any drills to correct this? Thanks
You are by far the best golf coach on YouTube! Thank you for the videos!
what about when the ball starts online and then slices or slight right and slice for a right handed player
Love ❤️ It Danny……where were you 35 yrs ago?????…..Watching from Alberta Canada 🇨🇦…..
Explaining how slices are created and that we often do more of what creates a slice in order to prevent a slice was such a light bulb moment for me. You are by far one of the best coaches I have ever found on the Internet. So glad I found your channel! Cheers from the States! 🍻
Oh Danny, I really needed this video this morning. After a few rounds of hitting driver straight, I lost it yesterday—booming slice after booming slide. This video will help get me back on track. Thanks!
I take my hat off to you – so simple and it works – love how you explain such things so I can put it into practice 👍
GREAT VIDEO DANNY,
NEED ADVICE HOW TO HIT OUT OF BUNKER WHEN YOUR BALL IS ABOUT 1 FOOT FROM THE FRONT OF BUNKER AND YOU HAVE TO CLIMB OUT OF ABOUT 1 TO 2 FEET
I swear I’ve seen this exact image on either this channel or another golf channel. Identical image did you upload this before?
Hi, as someone who plays too crappy to even qualify as a "high-handicapper," I wonder if it is possible to show two things (which may be diffiicult for a pro to imagine).
1. How to make just make contact with the ball somewhere on the face, and put it in the air with some trajectory consistently. Seriously. I mean not top it, not miss it, not chunk it 12 feet away 90 degrees to one side, etc. The things that make golf humilating when this happens half the time or more, and make you want to quit, especially when you see others do it so effortlessly. Things that make you feel too crappy to even take a lesson, like your house is too messy to call the housekeeper. Nevermind things like ball flight, height, shaping, landing, spinning, green accuracy–not that stuff yet.
2. How to align your brain when you want to aim in a different direction than the tee or shot area is facing. For example, you're at the driving range, and you want to aim for a spot to the left of the direction your hitting space is facing. So I guess you try to set up that way, but because your immediate surroundings (the mat or the other golfers, etc), you get this weird feeling and the club and swing don't cooperate. Like if I aim to the left (as a RH), I feel like I'm bringing the club from the outside in, rather than just trying to hit a straight shot on that plane.
This video goes against everything I have been told to do, and makes so much sense to why I Slice/fade my driver because I am adjusting the wrong way. People always says: Lean Back (weight on back foot), put the ball more forward, and a big one my play partners always tell me, don't straighten your arms….. This video just confirms my suspicions and tells me my self corrections in the feel of my swing have not been wrong. Love this.
You are the best Danny!
So, what about if the ball is launching perfectly straight, and then after about 40 yards begins to take a massive curve left or right?
You are telling us two things. In one video you urge us to put our feet together with the left/lead foot pointed outwards and the ball in front of our lead foot. Swing to establish balance. Then hit the ball. Here you are saying to put the ball inside the lead foot. How can both be correct, that is why should the ball go straight if our feet are together as we swing in the other video? 5:18 of the following video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FwQ4k3hGOt8
Danny, congrats on being named the number one coach on YT by My Golf Spy. 🎉Cheers.
Once again top learning video ,question Danny you seem to hit driver very up right is there now no need to lean to the right slightly to hit up on the ball ?
This is exactly what I need right now! I’m in the phase where my irons are playing really well on my drivers are now lagging.
It really does not take much to ruin your swing, especially when you think you are doing it right. Good tips here.
Danny congratulations in being rated the #1 golf instructor on YouTube by the Golf Spy. I agree
This setup is brilliant, I had kept making a stronger grip and making it worse.
Terrible advice.. what a dumbass
When I hook mine, it starts left and goes farther left. What can I do?
Thanks again Danny will try this on the tee box Monday
Superb
This video explains in great detail why your driver shots do what they do, and how to properly get yourself back to hitting straighter, and longer shot!! Great video Danny. 🫡👍
Danny you hit it straight through the covers and after it bounced off the screen it landed straight in the middle of the covers! That's what you call results! Great content Danny!
Do you reckon novelty/gaming type golf driving ranges help or hinder? We have one nearby with heaps of people drinking, eating, listening to loud music and having a good time. The tech is great but the balls feel weird off the club and I don’t know if they really help with driving practice. Great family fun though.
Thank you so much, Danny! Your channel is the only one I don't watch on double speed. 😊
the weight shift at impact hasn’t been explained to me but that is absolutely what i’m doing from a translated baseball swing
Just broke 200yds with my driver! Thank you sir. Not bad having a sore rhomboid(:
Gear effect… its not that difficult to understand…
Well well well. How foes it feel?? #1 youtube golf instructor on youtube from MY GOLF SPY!!!
Congrats to you good sir, you absolutely deserve it. Best!!
Hi Danny, excellent tuition as usual 👍. It concentrated on a slice – do us that have a hook follow the same process??
Feedback: Went to the range yesterday and I have been closing the club face to hit driver straight! So opened the face slightly, raised the handle and put more weight on my lead foot and hey presto, driver sorted! it felt weird but worked so thank you Danny. Will persevere with this and may even get a draw shape!!
Great video Danny. Slicing driver has been my number one problem, and I'm sure some of the things covered here include what I'm doing wrong, and how to try and put them right. I've been told I have the ball set up too far forward in the stance, and also that I am cupping the wrist. I think I am also striking the ball from the wrong position. I really like the simple tips provided here, especially the tram lines idea. I've not seen that before, so will definitely be giving that a go. I am currently recovering from an operation to remove cancer from inside my head, so it'll be a while before I'm playing again, but I am saving this video as it will be the first thing I try when I'm back on the range. Thanks for some great advice.
Tremendous Danny.Game changer for me today. Ive struggled for months with Driver.Hit it the best in ages .Lost a bit of yardage tho (about 30-40 yards) but only missed 2 fairways.Finished 9 over and lost 1 ball (tried to drive the water on a hole) My hdcp is 15.8. Thank you so much. Going to watch the Drive longer video now. Brilliant brilliant brilliant.
