September Golf in the PNW

Bucket list golf this September in the PNW was pretty sick. I just moved out here in May and finally got around the classics.

1/2 – Chambers Bay
3/4/5 – Gamble Sands
6/7/8/9 – Pronghorn Nicklaus in Bend

Also got to play but not pictured
– Home Course
– Golf Mountain Olympic Course

Still need to get down to Bandon Dunes but probably won’t get there til the off season when it’s cheaper.

Gamble Sands and Chambers bay were pretty special experience wise. Chambers was my first time getting a caddy so it was great to get some help because those greens were pretty puzzling to me.

Any recommendations for underrated courses out this way??

Port Ludlow. I love that place. It’s a bear to get out there, but its beautiful.

Also, go up to Avalon Golf Links (27 hole course) and play all day.

If you can make it out to the WA/ID border, Palouse Ridge and Circling Raven are both fantastic. Depending on how philanthropic you feel, some local charity auctions will have rounds of golf at private clubs up for bid. I’ve gotten onto Tumble Creek and The Club at Snoqualmie that way a couple times.

White Horse isn’t for everyone but if you’re looking for a challenge it’s not too far from Seattle.

There’s also Newcastle if you like to pay a boatload of money for a nice view and weird course conditions on the side of a mountain.

For every-weekend courses I really like to go out to the Peninsula. Gold Mountain, Trophy Lake and McCormick Woods. Taking the ferry from West Seattle (or downtown) to get there is great and they never seem to be as bustling as the courses on the Seattle side of the sound.

I’m jealous. I threw my back out and now I’m missing the best golfing month up here

If you’re still out in the Bend area, Fazio Pronghorn is the best, but it’s private so difficult to get on.

    Others would be:

    Crosswater
    Brasada Ranch
    Tetherow

    All 3 are great courses.

  5. You have definitely played some of the best tracks in Western and Central Washington.

A few others in WA I can suggest –

    – Druids Glen; a little overpriced depending on the conditions but a challenging course with unbelievable views of Mt. Rainier

    – Desert Canyon; fun Desert style course just on the other side of the mountains. Beautiful views of the Columbia River and the hill around it.

    – Bear Mountain; out near Desert Canyon. Crazy elevation changes. I played when it was windy and raining so it kicked my ass. I’m sure it’s gorgeous in the summer/fall, but would probably still kick my ass.

    – Salish Cliffs; haven’t made it out here yet but it’s on my bucket list. Seems like a great course and is very reasonably priced (relative to the area)

Finally I’ve got to suggest West Seattle golf course. It’s not as high end as the other courses I’ve listed but it’s my home course and in my biased view is the best Muni in the area. Great, challenging course, always in pretty damn good shape and spectacular views of the city skyline from a few holes on the back 9. Plus it has the kindest staff I’ve ever encountered on a golf course.

We just did Monterey for 2 weeks. It was great as usual.

  8. Lots of good suggestions here but also Wine Valley is also a fantastic track. Plus Walla Walla is a great town.

I was there in Agust and played Chambers and Golden Mountain. It was awesome playing up there! Highlight of my trip? Eagle on 8 at Chambers. I will never forget it.

  12. Fantastic. I’ll be there tomorrow. Chambers on Thursday.

Pumpkin Ridge – Ghost Creek Hillsboro Oregon

The private side Witch Hollow is the best course in the state outside the Bandon courses if you can get on that it’s exceptional

    Tetherow – Crosswater – Bend

Gotta play Bandon it makes Chanbers look small time. You can easily get a tee time on one of the courses and stay off property it’s cheap and easy if you aren’t picky
