Removing Putter Grip

How do I remove my putter grip without destroying it? I'd like to be able to do this with household tools. I just put a JumboFlat 17" grip on my club, but I forgot to get the shaft extended.

Meh you might be able to take a coat hanger and run it down in there to separate it from the shaft and pull it off. I tried it once and failed but you may have better luck. There are Youtube videos out there.

    3 Possible ways.

This uses normal grip solvent to try and get under the grip. The tool has a channel in it to let you slowly pour solvent in and keep working it around to get it removed.

Second way is using an air gun you put this in the hole in the butt and putt air in it to force it off. Be aware a grip can blow up. It would be best to use something wrapped around it to protect yourself (and wear protective eyewear).

or (but only if the white tube is removable.

    Third way solvent syringe.

The 2 methods using solvent are your safest.

One of the problems with those jumbo grips though is the underlisting (the black part) is very thick and hard so 1st option may not work at all.

Just buy the $17 tool on Amazon. Combined with solvent, it becomes easy.

you’re going to have a bad time taking those long foam ones off. i don’t install them with tape and solvent so they can be pulled more easily.

Hook blade. Angle it a bit and ride along the shaft. Cut it off. I’ve been in club making for 30+ years. Trying to remove this for future use isn’t worth the time. And air compressors only work if you can get the air in between the grip and tape. If not you blow up a section like a ballon and ruin the grip. It’s a 2 piece grip. So using the syringe is 50/50. You never know if it’s through to the shaft or only under the first layer. It also bends and breaks the needle half the time. Then the needle is stuck in the grip.

Cut it off and go get a new grip installed. At the shop we do it in 2 minutes and it’s the grip cost + $3.99. In and out and done right every time.
