Riverwalk was nice but I heard the word "fore" more times here because of the layout…. Bring a helmet!
Miss salt creek
Arrowood – probably $1️⃣0️⃣0️⃣➕
Great video, my daughter is heading out to SDSU to play
Lacrosse and attend. Glad I saw this video, great info on golf (and I love Mexican food) but don’t have too many good places here on the east end of Long Island, NY. Do you know where San Diego State practices? Do they have a facility on campus?
Playing Carlton Oaks tomorrow. Great video.
Heck yeah thank you for the tips!!
Carlton Oaks is one of the worst golf course I have ever played. Dead grass/bare dirt every where and nasty green conditions. I don't know how much they paid Mr. Shortgame, but do yourself a favor and don't play there.
If you can pay (advance fees) for Torrey Pines, please play there. You will not regret it.
If not, any of these are good options.
Steele Canyon
Mt. Woodson
Encinitas
Crossings
I would pick Twin Oaks, Arrowood, Vineyard before even considering Carlton Oaks.
The Del Mar Roberto's is the worst Roberto's of all the franchises i've ever eaten at there in SD. I lifeguarded there for the state for 26 years and it never was more than a bland tortilla bag of beans that drooped over as soon as you lifted it to take a bite. Juanita's in Encinitas on the other hand has been the go to since the early 80's. When you get back there, hit them up and get the Machaca. Plus Enci Ranch and The Crossings are very close.
haha. Roberto's is a tradition after playing Torrey. Great views.
Don’t sleep on the Jilberto’s also!!!
That exact robertos in del mar is my favorite mexican place ever
Carlton Oaks and Riverwalk have really not been taken care of. Both courses are set to be sold by owners. Enagic and Mt. Woodson are far better courses for the money. That said, I'm playing a league at Carlton Oaks at the moment, and it's still good fun.
there's been a ton of course closures in the san diego area over the past 5-10 years, lost a lot of really nice ones i loved, so now with less competition, the remaining courses just raise the fees really high, and quit maintaining what they have, making san diego a less than ideal spot for golf, and that's a total shame san diego!!!!!!
If anyone is watches this in 2023. Carlton Oaks is not the course for you anymore. Prices have more than doubled and they do not take care of the course anymore. Tree boxes are like uncut fairways. Greens are rough. Very fuzzy. Rough is dangerous to enter and the driving range is horrible. I am a 3 handicap and I won’t come here anymore. Just pick one of the other courses he mentioned. Happy golfing!
Played river walk a few years ago day before I played Torrey south. Twas pretty nice for the money and somehow we got behind a event they had cocktails every other hole and included us for free. Didn’t finish that round 😂. But I played great at Torrey
Balboa is challenging as hell. The signature hole, #16, is one of the most frustrating holes I’ve ever dealt with. The fairway is so damn narrow that any stray shot means your ball is gone. The greens are so hard as well. It may be a 6100 yds from the tips, but if you don’t hit your shots straight, the canyon is going to eat up your ball. Played Torrey south plenty of times and a lot of randos have agreed they rather play the brown tees at Torrey than Balboa because how hard balboa is. It’s great for the price tho!!! Lol
we are heading down on vacation in January, heard recent reviews for Carlton Oaks that werent flattering. looks ok though
Singing Hills is severely underrated and not well known. Two great courses. Very walkable and can be challenging if you are hitting it a little wild.
Carlton Jokes? Nah Enagic Golf Club at Eastlake 100x better for a similar price
Mt. Woodson isn't bad, either.
So under $100 if you live there. Torrey is not under $100 for visitors. A little bit of a click bait.
As a San diegan we do not eat like that
I haven't been to San Diego or California since the 94' Northridge earthquake. First and last trip there. It figures the only time I was ever in Cali, there was a major quake. Only thing I miss was the Mexican food. Some of the best Mexican food I've ever tasted.
LA has the best mex food. not even close.
Arrowood in Oceanside!!
Enci Ranch, Crossings, Lomas Santa Fe Executive, Arrowood, Twin Oaks, Links @ Lakehouse, Vineyard, Mt woodson, Rancho Bernardo Inn, etc.. all great under 100$ if you can find a twilight
I was stationed in Corando, and you are right about the Mexican food, Imo. Plus check out my name…
Those carne asada fries be hitting
I'll give warning to you visitors….this is a coastal desert and a state that does not like you using water so don't expect grass on the fairways in most places, especially in the Summer months.
River Walk is insanely overrated, I wouldn’t put it in SD top 15 public courses. Carlton Oaks used to be a gem but ever since new ownership took it over (about 10 years ago?) it’s been an absolute dump. Goat Hill in Oceanside looks like a PGA course in comparison. It’s so disappointing what’s become of CO because it used to be one of the best courses in town and not it looks like a dirt bike track. I guess they can always hang their hat on the fact that it’s a Pete Dye course but the man would probably roll over in his grave if he saw what it looked and played like today
Tecolote and mission trails arent bad. Mt woodson is awesome
San Diego native here, you need to play the course at Barona Casino.
