[Music] all right it’s Friday Friday June 28th and we are in the deadest the slowest the most boring point of the NFL calendar and that puts a big smile on my face not because I’m not outside working I love being outside of the practice field of Gillette sting sweating note taking squeeing my eyes until if that’s a 67 or a 69 nice on the back of these jerseys for every single player which we have a lot to look forward to this summer but because it’s late June we can do things like this which is open up a sixpack and I’m not just talking where hopefully you are on a boat at the beach ideally not grocery shopping and drinking but you get the point we have a six-pack of Patriots thoughts so we can talk about whatever we want and today what we’re going to be talking about are things that I think you can kick around at home who are the top 10 players in this roster who are the top 10 players going to be on this roster when the season’s over probably in January uh how about new contracts reminder Stevenson just got one that happened right after we dropped the last episode in a kind of way that I’m going we should probably re-record are we going to re-record no because again summer uh and then Devon gacha who does not until maybe when we finish recording this podcast and post it either Friday night or this weekend uh does not have a new contract plus thoughts on training camp inside my story with the David Andrews which dropped last week we went fishing spent a whole day together I encourage you to read that uh and then some Celtic story time from look I’ve been in this town now for six years I’ve scored zero points for any these teams and have been in two parades and the job as I see it is to take you guys places you cannot go and tell you things you cannot know so that’s the story time it’s not self-indulgent but if it comes off that way leave it in the comments and we’ll cut out story time though people seem to like the Scandinavian stories me almost getting into a fight with that’s that’s aggressive telling a Norwegian Man hitting my wife that I box when I do not um you guys like that part of the story time so story time today is going to be shorter but first the top 10 list let’s get to it so the best players in this roster ranked number one for me until he loses the belt the four-time pro bowler fac of the defense certainly voice of this team Matt Judah he gets it I get that he’s recovering from a season ending injury uh but he’s out there mini camp I expect this dude especially in a contract year to continue to be the best player on this team for the foreseeable meing weeks and months not years and years but Matt judon number one number two going on offense Mike onwenu not only is it just a positional versatility where he’s an above average player at Right Guard and right tackle right tackle obviously being in premium position and getting paid $19 million per year would tell you what the larger League thinks of him that was his Market that’s what he got he’s come back he’s ascending he’s entering his Prime he’s also often very healthy he’s a dominant run blocker and so for him he gets a slight Edge over Christian barmore who checks in here at number three because barmore does have some positional versatility but when you look at the traditional stats really at late in the season in a way that we’ve talked about before juch not on this list um against Bad offensive line so he broke out in the Denver game monstrous performance and there are a lot of underlying numbers that would suggest that barmore is doing more than those eight and a half sacks again talking about traditional stats um would indicate and that’s true taking on a lot of double teams anchoring well shedding blocks contributing to run stops but as far as it stands right now uh Sunday Friday June 28th Mike on wenu more starts more productivity uh get a slight nod over Christian barmore but you’ll see where barmore goes in the second top 10 list which is the second item in the six-pack moving on number four Christian Gonzalez if we’re going based on talent and potential number one on this list Far and Away no question but right now as you’ve heard me say many many times can I just see him play a fifth game uh until then he’s still top five player in this roster which is much a commentary on those three and a half games that he played last year and the rest of his teammates uh in both very different lights rounding out the top five Kyle Dugger gets a tiny tiny tiny nod over ra Andre Stevenson because again track record productivity more versatility and you look at the way that he was paid very similar to rre Stevenson who came in as the sixth or seventh highest paid running back in the league just as Kyle Dugger was with his uh extension that he got I just like where dugger’s at right now and when you look at Stephenson yes he was banged up but coming off a year when he averaged four yards per carry um Dugger even also had a slight dip last year Rel him to 2022 gets a slight nod no disrespect though to rre Stevenson number six is a Fine Place to come in on a top 10 list if you make a top 10 list you’re probably doing something right anyway uh but Stevenson with this contract as I mentioned four years $36 million only 17 million of that is guaranteed so when you’re averaging this out it’s about 4.25 million per year guaranteed and that’s not you know he gets a lot upfront right so that’s not evenly split but as far as the money that matters and how much they’re investing in him generally yes I agree all the critics of this deal you don’t want to pay running backs he’s a guy in his prime okay but my question to you would be this how would you like the Patriots to treat their sixth best player when they are projected to be one of the worst teams in the league let them walk out the door entry in a contract year uh or extend him and give him this money and at least keep him in house when you have the most cap space and are scheduled to spend the third least amount of cash in 2025 when he would have been up for a new deal anyway you have the cash next year you have the cap now this is a good time I would agree it’s probably a slight overpay but for a team that we’ve criticized time and again for not spending or using it cap yes bring back the sixth best player on this team who should statistically be better this upcoming season than he was last year uh jabrell Peppers number seven on my list pretty self-explanatory right like the guy has found a home in the league this is his final form I think is 28-year-old safety he never should have been in that free safety spot as I talked about with Brian Barrett last week off of the the camera not just in the TV view I’m talking about the all 22 of those old Greg Williams defenses Cleveland where he was a late first round pick you know uh God’s chosen one in high school football in the years before he goes to Michigan as a number one recruit in the country it just was one of these players who I describ this as JN Smith in a very distant kind of analogy here as better in theory than in practice okay the theory about debril Peppers is gone and the reality is to be a thumping playmaking hardnose box safety we know what he is he’s found his role he’s found his system seventh best player on this list the last three Jan Bentley uh similar deal not not as far as the theoretical part but just you know what he is run stuffing linebacker very smart good instincts enough range I don’t think he’ll ever crack the top five of this list and if he does the Patriots are in trouble but he’s still someone you want on your roster uh is certainly a net positive whether you look at the box score stats or some of the deeper stuff he’s never going to shine in coverage but the way that they’ve aligned their defense and he’s even played a little bit more in the edge here and there protects him against that so in draw good player Hunter Henry nine this is a you know again you don’t like to break the ties with the box score stats but Henry is neither a great run blocker nor receiver he’s about above average and everything and he got he definitely got slightly overpaid this offseason before he brings to this offense as a two-way tight end as a leader in the lock someone who just wants to be here and you would find in a top 10 list top 12 at worst among tight ends in the league you bring him back he’s number nine on this list overall and number 10 you know you could go in a lot of different directions here I’m going to go with David Anders and it’s not because of all the stuff that I’ve written about the time that we spent together the more stories I’m going to tell a little bit later it’s just he’s as steady and as durable as they come kind of like Hunter Henry in the sense he’s not going to wow you as a run blocker he’s not stonewalling you in pass protection but he’s there often enough and with the smarts and tying the whole line together I mean all of this disaster falling around him he checks in at number 10 if you want to make a case uh for Kendrick Bourne F by me pop Douglas does not make this list two concussions last year has me pretty scared he’s more limited in terms of his role super Dynamic after the catches we know but if you’re looking at just best NFL players track record production what I expect from them in the next couple of weeks and months Andrews knocks out pop Douglas but hey make your own listed home Story Time couple weeks ago juggling the Celtics this podcast Patriots coverage for the herald I said why not let’s add the Red Sox too my my cousin was in town so with the Yankees so we went to a game at Fenway not an easy ticket to get as you might imagine so what did we do we went to game time because game time is an authorized ticket Marketplace of Major League Baseball where you can get tickets faster and easier than ever and believe me I hunt like a parking spot that’s worth the weight and prices on game time for these tickets actually go down the closer it gets to first pitch they have killer last minute deals all in pricing including those pesky fees plus views from your seat and there’s the my favorite part their lowest price guarantee game time takes all the guesswork out of buying MLB tickets and if you find a lower price outwhere they will credit you 110% again 110% of the difference so whether you’re family Seer you just want to catch a game this summer this so are good let’s admit it might not be true for long go to game time browse to the app find those last minute deals look at the view from your C and again the lowest price guaranteed not to mention Flash Deals some Zone deals everything is down there in the app so go to game time now download the app create an account and use code clns I did this I got 20 bucks off my own podcast my own adre with the game time app terms do apply again all you have to do download the game time app create an account and redeem the code clns for 20% off download game time today for last minute tickets and the lowest price guaranteed and while you’re making that list here’s number two top 10 Patriots by season’s ends we’re not going to spend a ton of time with the guys I just mentioned this list will sound familiar but it’s in a different order so Patriots finish 3 and4 4- 13 5- 12 6 and 11 whatever it is here’s the best player on the team it’s Christian Gonzalez flat out I think if he’s healthy you will see a shutdown man-to-man corner someone who’s got good Zone instincts 62 fluid hips long speed everything they he’s going to be the best player on this team right behind him Christian barmore I think he leaps Matt judon who comes in third very good productive season for judon I think you start to see some of the explosiveness slip a little bit it’s just a fact of being 33 I’m not looking forward to that in a couple of weeks myself uh after him Michael wenu at four Stephenson at five because I think not only is this the best part of his career but he’s in the best shape of his life you know we’re we’re checking off a lot of the Bingo squares here for training camp cliches but he’s dropped his body fat percentage Stevenson Lea robs Kyle Dugger who’s number six and here’s pop Douglas by the end of that season I do think he makes a top 10 he will lead them in catches I believe fingers crossed both of them do your toes as well no more concussions for him for this 5 foot n 180 pound Jitterbug year two leap all that good stuff Hunter Henry goes up to eight he Leap Frogs Jill Peppers who’s at nine 8 n whatever you can switch them around if you want it’s my list this is how it goes and City sa comes in at number 10 so he knocks off David Andrews from this list also falling off this list was Joan Bentley I think City St what he showed at at the end of last year and the fact that he’s going to be able to go back to his normal position in college at left guard played Right Guard last year after the experiment right tackle went is a player that they can really rely on not only just in run blocking but in pass protection someone who is in his mid 20s now so there’s not a whole lot more development to go but the developing we did see last year in the fact that he’s already been slotted in as a starter shows you what the team thinks of him I can tell you he’s been at Gillette as recently as this week working out so he’s player that I think overtakes David Andrews obviously in the back nine in his career and you look across the line you’d love to say Kaden wallz is the best player in this line you’d probably like to say mikaeel wenu who obviously was on this list he was number four but after on wenu I think it is C sa who’s the second best player uh and you know so I take that back you you’d love to say Kaden Wallace and and Michael W were close I just don’t think it’s gonna happen it’s on wenu then it s David Andrews but no knock on anybody else I just think he’s going to be that good at the guard position this year uh honorable mentions Keon white another year two leap argument not as refined as I thought he would have been again he he implemented more than just a straight bull rush and an inside move by the end of the season he’s just a player that I think we’re going to know up pretty early on is it there or is it not because like a lot of their 2023 draft picks excluding Christian Gonzalez these are dudes in their early to mid 20s they’re Advanced older prospects partly Co partly just guys who kept playing in college and so for him there is some more development there some real talent but we’re going to know it early on and I just I can’t I can’t Bank on that in a way that I think City sa showed me more last year than Keon white did David Andrews Kendrick Bourne Jaylen PK and Javon Baker I know folks would love to throw these guys on this list I just think even though they’re going to play more we talked about this a lot the tie is going to go to the kids when it comes to playing time this part of the Packer way it’s hard for them to overcome NFL coverage specifically some of these Corners that they’re going to see in the AFC right away and produce they might be a top 10 player in this roster in December maybe November and December but right away for the whole season I think it’ll be pop Douglas and then Kendrick Bourne and one of those two guys fighting for the number three job and then their year two leaps I think will be the best version of these players that everyone expects and hopes to see as rookies it’s just going to be a lot right away I could be wrong but hey make your own list okay number three in the six-pack Devon gcha so again it’s been a long time since we recorded I don’t know I know I said this on TV that night when I was looking at him going okay he’s got his helmet on backwards he doesn’t have a jersey on and he’s just chilling so yeah he might be rehabbing but he’s not going down to the conditioning field he has no guaranteed money left on his last year of his deal this is a holding okay that’s what I’ve got my eye on lo and behold the next two days of mini camp bear that out D Goa is holding in it’s because as I just mentioned of his $7.15 million base salary this season none of it is guaranteed he also has a $1 million roster bonus but this is a dude who’s going to tune 30 in November and wants his money guaranteed or perhaps extended with an extra year and let’s let’s stop and celebrate for a second that we can call this what it is in a way that we did not last year whether you were Bill bich whether you were Matt judon whether you a bunch of fans in my mentions going oh it’s not a hold in they said it wasn’t a hold in well it was and judon since confirmed that as we all watched it because players who are just hanging around at training camp are not just hanging around for a reason in this case minan with gacha and that’s fine okay but that’s what it was that’s what this is even though people don’t want to hear about it sometimes you have disputes within teams contracts or otherwise uh and this is it so as I said gacha turns 30 November the depth behind him is not great when it comes to nose tackles you could put Christian barmore there again we talked about anchoring against double teams which he did a lot more of last year so more double teams honestly the most defensive tackles in the league but you don’t want your best interior pass rusher playing that role full-time right you want to free him up with picks and stunts and certain looks uh and let him go to work one-onone not one on two so the issue for gotcha is not just that barmore my neighbor in this defense got paid highest paid Patriot ever outside of Tom Brady it’s that I’m at a time now where I need to lock out my next deal it might not come in free agency based on how my tape is and my agent Drew rosenhouse was always the agent you wanted if you needed an extension or a new contract with Bill bich they always found a way for the most part to make those deals work going in saying okay this is going to happen we just need to find out what it looks like um Bel bich obviously not here anymore so and for the record back up with the Rosen house it’s not that all of those deals ended up being Team friendly Tonio Brown was a massive misstep with things that you couldn’t have seen in 2019 but Rosen house client you look at someone like judon that was a good deal for the Patriots um so if you’re Rosen house if you’re Devon gcha if you’re Elliot wolf first of all I think this is a good move by gcha because Elliot wolf as we all know has been handing out extensions left and right but there are a few different options here and I don’t I I would assume that Goda wants more years tacked onto this uh meaning two or more if you’re the Patriots it would be hard pressed to see them being excited about that without getting some concessions in the front end so this could be as simple as hey we’ll guarantee most of that 7 million but that’s it so that’s money in your pocket you don’t have to earn necessarily playing week after week after week you could do a partial guarantee in 2024 and extend him in 2025 which would also be uh not fake money but you know non-g guaranteed base salary you could partial both years or give him this two-year extension through 2026 and say yeah he’s turning 30 in November and it’ll be 32 at the end of this contract but D tackles tend to age back because this is not a position or a type of player that’s dependent on that explosion right he’s big he’s strong he needs to stay put okay and occupi blockers and that’s it uh I mean like 20 years ago Ted Washington almost 40 was one of the most important signings to the 2003 Patriots to go on to win the Super Bowl so how does this end I don’t know I I would expect gotcha to get some form a new contract the Patriots leader league in cap space again we just talked about the cash that they are scheduled to spend in 2025 is by five in the NFL even after the Stevenson extension but because of those different Pathways all of which I think are reasonable the more years though the Les he’s have guaranteed I think upfront so it’s a matter of what he wants and when he’s coming to the table but he’s paid is about the 30th uh best defense ATT on the league right now I think he’s in that range anyway he does not so we’ll see how long this goes it is a hold in there is a middle ground to be found it just what does that look like uh and I would expect it probably to get if I had to guess no reporting no aggregation on this first second week of training camp because they can find him into the ground and don’t have to pay back any of that in a way that’s official or under the table or anything but it’ll be interesting to see how he is valued post B who obviously loved him called him one of the best defensive lineman in the league not only just Elliot wolf but gerro mayo and Demarcus cumington two defense coaches who know him better that even balich did as far as working with him on a day-to-day basis as a defensive line coach and de facto coordinator last year okay from defense let’s go to special themes because I talked about this earlier you know there’s a coach I think could swing this season in a way that’s not Alex Vel it’s not Gerard Mayo there gonna be a lot of learning C Marcus cins call defensive plays Jeremy Springer is the Forgotten man of the Patriots coaching staff and this is not a sexy topic special teams never is well let’s think about it Chad Ryland last year as a rookie kicker made 64% of his field goals if he had made one against the Colts or the Giants or maybe even later against Kansas City the Patriots do not finish four and 13 they’re able to score they’re able to tie the game they’re able to win at least one of those games if not more there were two and six in games that he missed field goals not exactly totally telling they were 4 and13 but 64% stinks that’s the point here and as I understand it Ryland was working through some new techniques some new approach last year with Cam mord and Joe Houston if all Jeremy Springer does as new first year first-time special teams coordinator in the NFL is fixed the kicker takes him from 64% to 84% that will flip inevitably in a league built on close games the Patriots from whatever win total they be destined for now to an extra win or two it’s that simple now let’s go to kickoffs obviously the new rules lot of uncertainty could you have safeties like Justin Reed and Kansas City who supposedly will try kicking off the Chiefs could have be jell pepper here that’s my number one that’s my number one choice uh as the alarm goes off to keep talking about special teams um what does that look like we don’t know what I think we will see though in the NFL is a ton of Chaos in the first few weeks I think special teams coordinators are going to withhold their plans in the preseason they’ll get in these uh you know plans and techniques and practices as much as they can in training camp joint practices and then everyone is going to copycat so if Jeremy Springer is willing to go hey I don’t know how this is going to go but let’s get as Zan out of the box as we can whether it’s with the peppers uh kicking off whether it’s with um some dual lateral plays on the return or two returners or deployed whatever it is he can do that because you look at the depth of returners Marcus Jones Jaylen Reger who took a kick return back for Touchdown last year pop Douglas even Kyle Dugger there are a lot of players on this team that can take the ball and go to the house and as we know especially for offensive star of teams like the Patriots will be that can flip a game too so I’m not guaranteeing anything about Jeremy spring again young dude as far as coaches go in his mid-30s high energy mostly spent his time in college two years with the Rams now he’s got the full-time job okay this could bottom out but the Patriots know what bottoming out feels like they were dead last in the league by special teams sta in 2022 they were 29th a year ago if all Jeffrey Springer does is take the kicker or even the rest of his special teams back to League average this is a Patriots team that should outperform in ways that we’re not just looking at Drake May when’s he going to play or is Jaylen P going to catch x amount of touchdowns or is Christian Gonzalez going to be an all pro it’s on the third phase it’s with Ryland it’s with Marcus Jones it’s with Jeremy Springer who is a coach you are all overlooking and that will be probably the most exciting special team segment I do for months okay so in a little while we’ll all be boning up on fantasy football where can I get reminder of Stevenson is Hunter Henry finally get a breakout like Callahan’s been saying so for years what about Drake May Jaylen pulk pop Douglas Javon Baker well until then you can play Fantasy and win with prize picks America’s number one daily fantasy sports app with over 5 million active members prize picks is the easiest and most exciting pick less it’s that easy moving on number five uh this is quick training camp dates were announced day one July 23rd this is not a practice it’s for players to report take physicals condition uh then they hit the field day two I say day two because that’s how it’s written in the CBA and what the CBA says is you cannot have any padded practices uh by a normal schedule you know going day one to day two uh 3 4 5 six 7 until day seven so if the Patriots Day one is Tuesday July 23rd day seven is going to be Monday July 29th if you are at all inclined to come to Patriots training camp down in Foxboro and I would encourage it this is awesome up close looks you have uh bleachers you can sit in the hill you can get drinks through all the practices are at 11:00 a.m. come to that one this should be a padded practice Monday July 29th I would also advise August 1 which is a Thursday or August 2nd which is a Friday they’re coming off of a few off days then there’s this acclamation period is what they call it the first few days if you come down they’re not going to be paded you’re not going to have live tackling um which you know it’s a lot of hit and stop anyway but in those practices you’ll see one-on-one pass rush you want to see if Keon white is going to prove me wrong boom there he is Josh uch Matt judon Christian barmore going one-on-one with these offensive linemen you will see Jaylen pul uh and Javon Baker going one-on-one with Christian Gonzalez and sometimes right up close and those are the best days pads are on Stakes are high week Camp is starting to kick off here with day seven again Monday July 29th come to that practice or August 1st and 2nd the Thursday Friday all in the same week those should be at least two pad practices in those days so 101’s for receivers and corners one1 for pass rushers also 11 on Lems obviously Drake May is a big headliner and the goal line periods oh these are sweet ball at the two defense knows what’s coming offense knows what they have to do who gets it done you will see a lot of that on those days so come to those days for training camp and if not Tuesday August 13th is there uh this is like a watching on YouTube I don’t know why I’m doing the Bernie Sanders like finger point with two fingers your pointer and your thumb held together anyway Bernie Sanders has come to the Tuesday August 13th practice uh it’s a joint practice with the Eagles they’re only doing one because gerro Mayo reportedly was a little bit concerned about a second day of joint practices uh which we know and I think this is a fair concern often lead to a ton of fights they don’t want that we we saw this a couple years ago with the Panthers players getting kicked out left and right just no good so that’s what I would say one more time Monday July 29th Thursday and Friday August 1st and 2nd come to Foxboro see a training camp practice you won’t regret it you have a good time and it’s football up close what could be better number six in the six pack before we get to a quick Celtic story time um the David Andrew story so I I laid everything out in this article from me approaching him last year about the story that it was about a card game he used to run within the locker room it was you know once or twice a week couple of guys keep things light they’re going for 13 just have some sort of camaraderie some Joy you had to mix of veterans rookies uh backup starters and as I’m talking to him we had to put the story down which is not like hey let me surrender my credential or my you know journalistic Integrity here it’s just the story could not be told in the right way as far as who’s going to talk and be able to talk about fine whatever so he said David Andrew someone I’ve known now six years mostly surface level conversations lock how can I make it up to you I said I I don’t really know don’t worry about it so he ends the season is uncertain about his future is they’re four and 13 next day is Monday locker room clean out happens every year unless you win the Super Bowl and I said hey what do we what do we just went fishing this offseason figuring if he’s retired we’ll chat if he’s not I’m really curious what this dude wants he’s he’s going to turn 32 next month he went to the Super Bowl in three of his first four years he won two of them and now at the end of his career championships are just off the table it’s not going to happen this season it’s not going to happen next season if he hangs around for a third year he might not even be the starter what does he want as this dude who has been at the center of the peak of anyone’s career going to Super Bowls playing with Tom Brady okay someone who’s made a career that will go into the Patriot Fame and is now going to have to endure not only just a rebuild but a full on te to the studs and he’s sticking around de McCord’s done Matthew Slater’s done he is one of the last relics him Jon Jones Joe Cardona the only ones with multiple Super Bowl rings in the sler what do you want David Andrew so we did go fishing uh showed up 550 on the Cape there’s this annual tournament the Patriots Alumni Association separate from the franchise runs every year Pete roock old offensive lineman from the 70s and 80s uh organizes it they bring current players former players obviously it’s an alumni association and fans who can pay to be on these 15 sometimes 20 boats at a fouth on the cape uh to just fish with them hang out and all the money goes to Tommy’s place which is this Foundation that gives money to V uh set up vacation homes for kids with cancer who live on the cape so we go again I encourage you to read the full story but this was David Andrews a seven Time Captain like I had never heard him before about those Super Bowls uh about what he wants now about how things have Chang change him again at the literal Center of all the disaster with the offensive dysfunction and the bad coaching and the locker room Rifts and what he wants now moving forward and the gist of it was a lot of little Joys and the things that you find and I don’t think we appreciate or right enough about from a human interest standpoint about guys like him for sticking this out and part of it yes is to get the Patriots back former glory a part of that but even he had been as he’s laying out this kind of vision for me you know Drake May throwing a touchdown pass or Jaylen pole catching that touchdown pass in the Super Bowl you know you tell yourself you’re a part of it but you’re really not I think if the Patriots get back there it will be part of what David Andrew did this year and if he comes back next year he did get a contract extension for one year um the Patriots are lucky to have him I don’t say that and it’s very easy over media right treat us give us free oh my God you’re the best person I’ve ever met this is a good human being a great leader and someone I was very very glad to get and look we spent seven hours in a fishing boat and caught one thing so this was not day uh that you know I think most most days like that that you enjoy um and so it was uh it was really good to talk with him and get to know him and have him open up and trust me with that story and we chatted since um you know just to kind of follow up in a couple of details so a good dude please read the story tell the Boston herald.com I’ve tweeted about it and uh you’re you’re not going to find any story like that so far written this year and I would be surprised if you see something from anyone the the rest of the season last thing Celtic story time uh I’m not a big parade guy and I don’t don’t say that uh much anymore because just being at the center of the Celtics championship and everyone coming out um I got to write this because we we lost our Celtics writer Steve H at Herold a couple of months ago I say all right I’ll pitch in let’s hire someone they don’t they still haven’t uh I don’t get it but anyway I cover them as well as the Patriots the last couple of months and so there’s one spot for media if you’re a cameraman obviously panning out to the crowd and the whole en environment if you’re a writer I had Jared Weiss from the athletic behind me you’re writing what this was like and it is a little awkward our uh truck it was a pickup truck that they said you know small stadium style seating so you’re just like strapped in thegate is down and you’re looking behind you at what are the duck boats so in front of us is these long um you know tractor trailers at the TR leaders are there the confetti machine whoever’s running the music then there’s Us in this weird white pickup that looks like it was OJ it at the with a bunch of random white guys in the back uh and then the duck boats Joe mul and everybody so the awkward part is you can hear the music the truck’s going out ahead of you and everywhere you look around people are screaming they’re fist pumping they’re so happy and like you had nothing to do with it I I again six years zero points two parades but what you soak in in the middle of that and you can’t help but smile and you know keep your journalism objectivity look I’m glad the Celtic’s W that was a lot of fun I I had a really good time it’s just this is what it’s about it’s not just the parade it’s the connection it’s the joy it’s the community and I remember rereading a column I had read written after the Patriots parade my first year in the be and the way I described it then I think it was a fair characterization you know Patriots beat the ram it’s 13 to3 they come back a few days later it’s cold but it’s like a good February day was this was a defiant celebration of you remember that season we’re still here too old too slow still here like kind of a subtle Fu a salty defensive team obviously with an older Tom Brady that beat the Rams again one of the most uh explosive highflying offenses in NFL history true story be golf as a quarterback and so coming back to Boston it was like a full circle from their first Super Bowl win of just we can do this even if you don’t think so and it it was again it wasn’t like double birds out but there was just like a Sal to it a defiant celebration on a brilliant day in Boston this was all joy this was seeing Jaylen Brown and Jason Tatum grow up and graduate this was a coronation for players like Al Horford this was Chris Taps porzingis dra draped in the lafian flag celebrating in a way that like that dude was playing for the Wizards a year ago so it was all of these things all at once and to be at the center of that even for a very brief stint 45 minutes rolling down from Causeway to Boon uh was spectacular so I wrote about it um and was also in the locker room postgame for for game five and I I like these scenarios I I start to learn more covering you know pens one a big 10 Championship once and you’re on the field and people are talking to you and normally there are very strict rules there were with bich about who you can talk to and when if you’re media and this is also like a free-for-all like talk to whomever and not in a way that’s like oh please give me a quote yada yada it’s just like hey congrats spraying champagne everywhere so I had a recap of that and it’s just I would say if you’re not a parade person the reason I bring this up is it’s worth the wait it’s worth the day the skipping work the the traffic the whatever it is because if you get to be at the center of it you are at the center of what I would only describe as what it feels like what it sounds like a buzzer beater at the Garden in a playoff game just unending waves of sound and joy in Boston and this was Boston his best this it was an incredible day so look it had it had only been five years uh since the last one we’ll probably have another one in the next five years C’s B’s maybe probably not the Pats maybe the Pats uh if David Andrew gets his wish but I would just you got to make it out you you you you got to make it happen and I’m incredibly lucky to be in the middle of that but uh I hope some of that made sense if not again read the stories and definitely the David Andrew pieace get to know him better than you ever have what he wants what’s coming next um and a lot of touching stuff about his son he’s about to have a second son coming up in July all right coming up for us here in this podcast Fitzy finally for our third annual Patriot scrimmage draft right he and I have a team we’re picking players recet style from the Patriots roster I go he goes I go he go back and forth who has a better team we will have that for you next week plus a tweeted version uh actually we might do this on YouTube too a pick by pick how the teams went you tell us who won the third annual Patriots scrimmage draft and then we’ll be back the following week more Patriot stuff but so long this has been your Patriot six pack andj the weekend stay safe be welcome [Music] oh [Music]

  1. Bourne, 10th, absurd. He shudnt make the team, once bk from injury. He gives you minimum anything you need from a wr. Now older n injured, he won't be top notch in anything, and give you nothing going fwd. Bottom line, done.

  2. Word is onwenu is not looking in the best shape and there’s concern about the effort you’re going to get now that he signed a nice deal
