With just five weeks remaining before the FedExCup Playoffs, the PGA TOUR heads to the Quad Cities for the John Deer Classic. Jordan Spieth returns to the John Deere Classic for the first time since 2015. Spieth is a two-time winner at TPC Deere Run including in his last appearance nine years ago when he shot a third-round 61. Spieth’s 2013 victory at the John Deere Classic was his first TOUR title. Reigning champion Sepp Straka aims to become the first repeat winner since Steve Stricker won three in a row from 2009-2011. The Austrian is currently 17th in the FedExCup standings and has four top-10 finishes so far this year. Jason Day is another contender with four top-10 finishes in 2024 and returns to TPC Deere Run for the first time since 2011. Day has never missed the cut at the John Deere Classic in five appearances, with his best finish (T15) coming in back-to-back years, 2009-10. Other names to look out for this week include Sungjae Im, J.T. Poston, Jake Knapp, Aaron Rai and Joel Dahmen.

also tied for nth at the US Open L exactly back to back top 10 and a beauty there to start for Thompson all right our featured group in the afternoon probably just knocking down little gap wedge back into the wind Dave Thompson played awfully well finished in a tie for second last week at the rocket mortgage and you heard it rattle at the bottom of the cup opening birdie for Davis Thompson Jason day will line things up but will’ll jump ahead it’s David Thompson for Eagle yeah he started off with the birdie so that could have been a spectacular shot a start there Davis Thompson he’s been playing some solid Golf and again this week 500 par nice finish at the US Open just Dad Todd’s the tournament director at the RSM and Davis played his college gol at Georgia and a nice kick there he gets a good chance for birdie not a ton but just a little goes left goes right in the middle of the hole he is really playing with some confidence Davis Thompson balls a little above his feet choking it down here with the 13th AP Par Four choking it down trying to drive it in there low to that back pin and he does holds it right there another good shot CLE good shots on both sides going right at it there 2,000 coming into this week 41,021 birdies so far today 592 birdies makes your head spin it’s making my head spin yeah Davis Thompson came out kind of clunky but it had enough spin on it that’ll work four of his last six top 17s on the season in Ninth Place finish at the US Open and another good start to this week gets him to eight under par heading to the 18th so gets him into fourth place for a tie for fourth wouldn’t you shoot a 10 under the day before I guess you’re confident I guess so all right Davis Thompson for an opening birdie and that’s exactly how you get it done Rd he had a really good week last week all right Davis Thompson front of the green here at 14 well that looks good that looks good oh it just slides by but that’ll be a tap in Bur to get the shot back that he dropped a couple of holes ago yeah he’s going to have some issues in that long stuff over there Thompson on the T at 16 pretty easy hole location today Davis Thompson finished second a week ago in Detroit the rocket mortgage now for birdie to get 10 under and he Rams it home Davis Thompson carrying on some good play into this week oh that really well [Applause] done one of those other guys one back of Springer and valami now oh oh so nice boy it came out of the sky kind of like a six iron or a seven iron it did it landed soft very much so playing incredible golf oh and first man to 1300 couple scratchy golf holes wonderful second shot into the sixth and a wonderful bird back on top well you called it so Thompson is at 13 under par what’s easier to try to stay focused on I think something like this honestly cuz you you don’t get ahead of yourself so much when there’s so many people around you when you when there’s only one guy here one guy there you start to think in a little more cautious terms you start to worry about what the other people are doing this the second to last group one in there Davis Thompson we’ve seen so many slide to the right here and that one just hung on so Thompson and opening birdie to get to one back one more look they’ve they’ve been playing well for for a few weeks in a row have been playing well for a few weeks in a row building up back going to the fifth David Thompson went birdie birdie on one and two out of the bunker finds a birdie at Five Short sided too Davis Thompson got very fortunate kind of rattled off the trees a kick left into Fairway now just 109 yards that’s our trackman Tracer technology and that’s tracing towards the hole should come off the slope yeah a lot of ways to get it close there Jim and one SL perfect yeah four out of the last six events of top 17s including the ninth at the US Open another good week this week [Applause] just 111 yards just a sand wedge in here for him so all about controlling that spin for him straight up in the air with it okay controls are right to Hole High good shot absolutely for birdie in the lead got it why not so a nice bird there and that takes him out of that tie five birdies in the first eight holes that’s getting her done and here’s Davis Thompson our co-leader at the par 312 that is seven iron painting the flag stick he does a lot of that Mark what a shot man that is a work of art Davis Thompson was a great basketball player in high school as well won a state championship at Lee Scott Academy and that was a layup for birdie at 12 after that beautiful t- shot up to 13 it’s our leader Davis Thompson just trying to work it from that left bunker back into the Fairway That Swing Frank is in full operational order right now it’s in the front side of the divot which will help he has driven that in there really low Frank oh that superb from there none better just shows no emotion he got to that ball and as we go up to 13 and Thompson oh what a three especially after being in the divot Hall and an uphill second 300 front he squared that up can’t quite tell if it caught the bunker or not maintain the knee Flex must accelerate and the spine angle just like that just like that let’s take a second look at the down swing kind of drags that handle left hand hangs on face open through impact didn’t release it too hard very your right hand side of the tea to give that fade some room oh boy and he’s going to need one of your squirrels to throw it out didn’t hear any trees yeah he threads the needle well we’ll wait to see what he has but the sound was certainly good it’s got his attention it’s aggressive it’s spectacular oh my [Applause] goodness copy that one yeah beautiful another look from up high and it went High such a a great shot it’s been pting will old day for a two- shot lead absolutely what a four look like four all day long all day long been way in the back Center ooh friendly roll there nice little kick down into that first cut it’s okay now got to go a tear back today I left a lot out there just a sand wedge for Davis Thompson taking dead aim that needs to hustle yeah didn’t get up that slope so little nervy little wed shot there for Davis from distance 44t 4 in oh did he really yes he did how about hooping it a birdie out of the gates from way down town has six iron out oh boy this came out hot Jim yeah it’s by his reaction as well my goodness that carried over the Green Trust what you’ve been working on it gets up that could be really good that starts to go down right here that is fantastic absolutely remember the last five winners here Buried one and two so no problem there his hands are definitely in control and he’s in control he now has a four shot lead as they head up to number three can’t they just use the right te to save some steps that’s what I’m For You especially 268 to that tree in the center of the Fairway which he can carry but he hates this one he lost his t- shot at the second hole to the right and got a was very very fortunate not quite as fortunate there at the fourth you’re right about choking down to the steel oh that’s just so well judged from that line excellent play absolutely at about 20 ft for birdie now what time did you get out here this morning 9:30 oh how about this start how about it absolute dream start there for Davis talked about patience and discipline that’s all it’s going to take right now for for for Davis Davis Thompson fifth T 320 run out with some helping win he’s got driver out there Colt this is blistered but could run through the Fairway yeah he choked down on it that needs to take a seat John yeah a little question that driver off the te he’s at the back half of an old divid which will allow him to get Cleaner contact on the ball not as much grasp between the ball and face if anything you want this a little bit long you don’t want in those front bunkers yeah smart play something right [Applause] there showed me a little patience right there I mean that’s unbelievable some special things in that house Thompson for birdie be a little careful with the speed on this but boy does this look good oh another one hot plate Thompson in the zone just tapping those in like they’re two Footers check this out again going down the slope not a whole lot of break to it just kind of creeping creeping and H holding speed look like Fairway Wood here yeah just his hybrid looking for something around 245 250 off the te here yeah he is Swinging with some confidence Jim yeah he really is he once he got that equipment dialed in the ball change yeah I really hope they’re not playing for 145 y sh I’m just you know thinking the same oh boy this has got plenty on it yeah it does should spin ah just stuck right there pretty aggressive play I’d say 92 ft of putt up to that let’s just this is a clinic yes it is Flawless this was a moment ago at the challenging par for ninth hole alongside Ian Baker Finch I’m Andrew catalon and Ian what a show he is putting on it is an absolute stripe show here for Davis Thompson he has another birdie opportunity after a spectacular approach shot at the par 4 yeah to 27 under what an opening nine for Davis Thompson t- shot at 10 Frank the only Club that’s given him a little bit of trouble today is the driver missed four Fairways on his opening nine make it five now but just played as a three shotter I think you just have to play smart but the main thing is you’ve got to play games with yourself when you see yourself way in front as you said I W by 13 it was the next three holes I’m going to play the next three holes one under I’m going to hit it inside 10t on this short Par Four I I was just playing games with myself and my caddy he was a big part of that as well just a perfect angle has a slope long and left he can use to bring it back but he’s taking it right at it oh a little bit of spin that is such a good shot isn’t it [Applause] set it up in the middle of the poter hit it out of the middle chances are it’s going to go in worked on hitting some lower ones um kind of the low bullet for accuracy that’s there’s that right Miss again oh look out right this is way right fortunate to get the cart path to kick him in a generally decent Direction and it kicked it back the other way swing with the slope yeah shoulders and even hips too is that any good fantastic exclamation point yeah Tournament winning shot right there stayed left shoulder low hit through it nicely see that trim exit as Ian said this could be a tournament winner to get to 28 got it big
