this is Rory mroy at the 2024 US Open he just sank his fourth birdie in five holes and holds a two-shot lead over Bryson Des Shambo heading into the 14th T he’s just five holes away from winning his first major trophy in over 10 years and this is 1 hour later Bryson dambo ofine so what happened Rory’s had his fair share of collapses throughout his career but looking at at the stakes and the way it all went down this one might be the worst but the real question is are we even surprised anymore a collapse like this at a major tournament would be heartbreaking for any professional but Rory mroy isn’t just any old golfer he’s one of the greatest players of his generation with four major wins and 26 total PGA Tour trophies two of which coming just this year but in the important moments on the biggest stages in golf Rory just can’t seem to put it together but it wasn’t always this way back in 2007 17-year-old Rory mroy was the biggest golfing sensation in the world and potentially the best Prodigy to come out of Europe he’d already claimed the top spot on the world amateur golf rankings and finished as the top performing amateur at the open championships with a score of plus five his first ever major while Rory would turned Pro that same year he continued competing in the European tour for two more seasons which grew his reputation and fan base in Europe even more two things immediately stood out about mooy’s golf game the first of which was his picture perfect swing he had perfect technique and could flawlessly transfer his weight throughout the stroke this gave him a serious advantage in one main category distance Rory is famous for his exceptionally long drives which gave him a huge advantage on the PGA tour especially early in his career when Rory was on his game he could dominate just about anybody out driving most of the field off the te and setting himself up for easy birdies unfortunately Rory was one of the most inconsistent players on the tour he could go from winning a tournament by seven strokes to missing the cut just a couple weeks later looking at Rory Strokes gain stats throughout his career we’ll notice an obvious trend he was consistently great off the T holding a 1 to two stroke Edge on the typical PGA golfer but his putting was middling at best and at worst it was far below the average costing him valuable strokes and key moments but despite the inconsist consistencies early on Rory was still an exceptional golfer who was a threat at any tournament he played in he’d win his first PGA Tour event at Quail Hollow in 2010 and he set a course record of 63 at St Andrews in the open championships where he’d finished tied for third although he’d missed the cut at the Masters and the US Open that year Rory still managed to reach as high as seventh on the official golf world rankings but the 2011 Masters looked like Rory’s breakout performance he’d start the week off with a 7 under 65 to take sole possession of the lead after round one after two more solid rounds of golf on Friday and Saturday Rory went into the final round sitting at 12 under par and a four-shot lead on the rest of the field he held on to his lead at minus 11 after nine holes but disaster would strike just minutes later Rory shanked his t-shot at whole 10 and it disappeared into the forest ending up between two cabins almost 400 yard from the green now have you ever seen anyone anywhere never close to this on never another shank on his third shot put him deep into the rough and his Chip Shot bounced directly off a tree got to get up and over this little tree and that hit it he triple bogied the 10th hole and followed it up with a dreadful three putt on the 11th hole from only 10 ft away on the 12th Rory hit a fabulous t-shot to give him a great look for birie and a chance to get his rhythm back come on Rory just straighten the back keep your head steady I can’t believe it it was a complete melt down Rory dropped six Strokes in just three holes and finished the tournament in a tie for 15th while the collapse on the 10th hole is by far the most infamous it was Rory’s putting that truly let him down he had two chances for birdie to get him back in contention and instead missed five putts from inside 15 ft and unfortunately for Rory this wouldn’t be the last time Rory bounced back in a big way at the US Open that year it was a dominant display of golf from start to finish as Rory finished the tournament at 16 under eight Strokes ahead of second place finisher Jason day and a new US Open record for the lowest 72 hole score he was also the third youngest to win a major at the time behind Tiger Woods and fellow European Legend SE balleros 2012 proved to be even more successful he won four PGA Tour events including another major where he’d once again Dominate and win by eight Strokes Rory overtook tiger to become the youngest player to ever win multiple Majors but his inconsistency was still apparent as he’ missed the cut three times that year at the start of 2013 Rory signed a $200 million endorsement deal with Nike instantly catapulting him to one of the highest paid athletes in the entire world but a myriad of injuries and shaky play throughout the season left Rory with no PGA Tour wins for the first time in his career thankfully he’d follow that 18-month stretch of no wins with three trophies in the span of 1 month including two major victories at the open and the PGA Championship this put mroy at the top of the official world rankings a spot that he’d hold for over a year it also made him the second player to ever win four majors before the age of 255 Rory’s career thus far was probably enough to get him in the Hall of Fame and at only 24 years old there was no telling how much longer he could continue this dominance for any professional golfer the next few years of Rory’s career would be seen as a huge success and in some ways they were Rory continued winning tournaments reaching 10 PGA Tour wins in 2015 and 15 by 2018 but Rory still couldn’t find any consistency in his game missing the cut 12 times in that same span and his performance in Majors was even worse from 2016 to 2018 Rory finished in the top five at every Open Championship yet missed the cut three straight years at the US Open he went five straight years finishing in the top 10 at the Masters but finished no high higher than 17th at the PGA championships in that same time span Rory won three tournaments in 2019 including the PLAYERS Championship which is usually considered the unofficial fifth major he had solid finishes in the rest of the big tournaments which was enough to win him his second FedEx Cup along with being named the PGA player of the year but it had been over 5 years since his last major win and although he had success in all other aspects of his career he had yet to win The Masters and complete the career Grand Slam many of his fans were impatiently waiting for Rory’s next big win and unfortunately they’d have to continue waiting a long time his next big chance came at the 2022 Masters where he’ chewed a final round of 64 to finish in sole second place behind winner Scotty Sheffer while it wasn’t a win it gave Rory a lot of confidence and it looked likely to pay off at the open that same year Rory started off well with a round of 66 putting him in second behind American Cameron Young by the end of the third day mroy sat tied for the lead with Victor hland at -6 four shots ahead of the rest of the pack by the 10th hole on Sunday Rory set at – 18 and held a three-shot lead over the three other contenders a couple more birdies on the back 9 would all but seal his victory but Rory was once again unable to make the important putts on 17 and 18 and lost by Two Strokes to winner Cameron Smith the 2023 US Open was yet another chance for Rory to grab his fifth major as he entered the final round just a stroke behind leader Windam Clark this time however a stroke of bad luck ruined his chances at a trophy Rory’s approach shot on the par five 14th seemed to land in the bunker just short of the green but the tall grass that surrounded the bunker had swallowed his ball forcing him to take an unplayable his guaranteed birdie became an unfortunate Bogey and he’d go on to lose by just one stroke despite these two disappointments Rory was playing some of the best golf of his career winning six PGA Tour events in 2 years as well as a third FedEx Cup title he’d win his 25th PGA Tour event at the Wells Fargo Championship in May setting himself up perfectly for a big push at Pinehurst at the 2024 US Open Rory got off to a great start shooting a field best 65 to share the lead with Patrick kentley after day one round two was more up and down but a bogy on the 18th hole set him back to fifth place at minus three on Saturday Rory got up to minus 6 after back-to-back birdies but a couple bad t- shots on the par 3s landed him in the sand dropping him back to minus 4 overall Rory started round four three shots back of leader Bryson to Shambo but he closed the Gap right away with a long birdie putt on the first hole this group in front can show the guys in the last group what can happen oh and mroy out of the gates quick with a birdie from 21 ft Bryson’s lead stayed at two strokes until the ninth hole when Rory hit a beautiful t-shot on the par three and sank his second one putt of the day although Rory wasn’t hitting the ball that well his putting was picking up the slack and he’d sink yet another long birdie putt to Ty Bryson at minus six backto back for mroy to six under and he’s tied to Shambo Bryson would Birdie the 10th as well to regain the lead but Rory didn’t stop and sank another beautiful birdie putt on 12 to tie things back up and he drops it home again [Applause] meloy and after a long drive to the green on 13 that gave him a favorable bounce Rory chipped on and made the six- foot putt to increase his lead to Two Strokes just five holes separated Rory from his fifth major title after a good par save on the 14th hole Rory’s t-shot on 15 sailed off the green and into the deep rough he’d missed the lengthy parut and dropped back down to minus 7 back in a tie with d Shambo but right as his lead faded Bryson gave it right back as he missed a very short par putt on the same hole Rory continued to push the pace on 16 and left himself a three-foot putt for par to stay in the lead and M boy with a Miss once again Rory’s putting began to fail him at the most crucial of moments and as the pressure began to mount the rest of his game started to crack after a Miss hit off the te Rory was able to save his par with a beautiful bunker shot and Putt keeping his hopes of the trophy alive so we arrived on the 18th T tied for the lead at minus 6 teeing off on a hole that he just birdied 2 days prior his t-shot hung left of the Fairway and ended up in a divot behind some wild grass his second shot was no better as he barely avoided the sand trap and rolled it to just in front of the green while his hopes for birdie and the outright lead were gone Rory still had a great chance to get up and in for par his Chip Shot was as good as it could get and he left himself with yet another 4ft putt for par to keep him in intention Rory’s putting had cost him dearly in the past losing him his first chance at a master’s title but that was when he was young and inexperienced other than a quick lapse in judgment on the 16th his putting had been carrying him the entire day with multiple clutch birdie putts to keep him in contention Rory had the chance to make up for his mistakes on the last three holes and put some pressure on to Shambo who is just a couple minutes behind him just one more simple putt for par coming down the stretch as devastating as Rory’s 18th hole was Bryson to Shambo was looking to be even worse his t-shot put him in the same spot as Rory which caused him to slam his second shot right into the far bunker no one had saved par from that bunker the entire tournament but when it mattered most Des Shambo stepped up and did what Rory couldn’t his incredible bunker shot put him 5 ft from the hole and he sank the putt to win his second ever US Open [Applause] the devastation was written all over Rory’s face as he quickly left the event after watching the final putt go through he had experienced collapses and heartbreak many times in his career but none were as disastrous and painful as this year’s US Open Rory would put out a response to the events on his Twitter saying it was the toughest day he’s ever had in his progolf career he decided to step away from golf for a few weeks but he assured his fans that he’d be back in time for the open championships and that he still believed now more than ever that he could win another major [Music] trophy Rory mroy is one of the greatest golfers of all time he has the fifth most PGA wins in the modern era he’s claimed four of the five biggest trophies in golf and yet he’s still only 35 years old he’s been in in the top five of the world rankings for the last 3 years and continues to improve his golf game each day but recently he just can’t seem to put it together on the big stage a decade of fantastic golf but not a single major trophy to show for it and it makes you start to wonder will he ever win another one his best chance in years just went up in Flames from two Miss putts and professional is only getting more and more competitive will Rory mroy prove his doubters wrong and win another major will he finally win The Masters and claim his career slam or will his career slowly fizzle until he’s too old to compete only time will tell but one thing’s for certain Rory’s collapse at the 2024 US Open will haunt him for the rest of his life [Music]

  1. I’ve been watching your videos for a little while, and I still don’t know why you don’t have more subscribers. Great videos, keep it up!

  2. Speaking of heartbreak, you didn't mention that he broke Caroline Wozniacki's heart by calling off their wedding at the last minute. Since then, he has no major win.

  3. Mate you dont know golf, he shanked at 10th at Masters in 2011??? He snap hooked it. Need to work on your golf terminology!!!!!!

  4. Any of Y'all watching this actually play golf? He ain't doing so bad. How many of us could accomplish what he has? Golf is a hard game. Basketball? Four other guys to help you out. Football? Ten other guys on your side of the ball to blame. Hockey? Soccer? Water Polo? Rugby? Ok, Tennis is the only other major sport I can think of in the moment where you're on the stage all by yoursellf. Get over it. Any of Y'all pointing your fingers ought to look in th mirror. How many have you won?

  5. Bro, I'm not trying to be mean but your voice is hard to listen to. Its like you're yelling but still talking. Its strange, to say the least. I literally have to turn the volume almost all the way down & its still a tough listen.

  6. You’ve left out a lot of context. Bryson had the lead for most of that final round. Not Rory. At the open can smith started the back 9 with 5 straight birdies. Rory didn’t lose that open. Smith won it. I am no Rory fan. But this video is just a pos to be frank. Your character is shining through your work here. And it doesn’t say much for your character unfortunately.

  7. It sounds like youre yelling the entire video and have weirdly fast tempo of speaking sorry I cant listen to you :s
