quick and then turn it over to you uh fantastic final round 9 under 62 to get the job done uh you’ve been asked a couple of times so far what does a round like this do for you mentally especially as you plan to head over to Scottish yeah just tons of confidence um literally seeing the ball go in from pretty much everywhere on the green helps and um hit my lines off the tea and really just when your your whole game’s kind of uh you know really solid it’s it’s just builds confidence in you and I’m so excited to get across the pond and kind of continue this play you were just asked about uh Davis and you you kind of chuckled and literally you live you share tell us that story again yeah I mean five steps outside my master bedroom is literally his back his probably back porch so we we’re literally next door neighbors in St Simons uh I know some of the neighborhoods probably been pulling pulling for us and it’s been probably pretty cool for them but yeah he’s uh he’s been playing so awesome he’s been trending the last few weeks so you can kind of see it coming in my opinion and uh it was only a matter of time for a guy guy like him with his caliber to kind of seal the deal I don’t know if he’s how how much of a lead he has but I’m sure he’s he’s built enough to where he can Cruise in we’ll see what happens but pulling for him you were flirting with uh you know 5960 at some point this tourament with today was that kind of entering in your head as as the round got going you know I know I I knew I was really low um I didn’t know specifically how many how many under I was I was just I kept plugging along I actually caught myself trying to do the math um on I think 15 or 16 I was like screw it let’s just keep trying to fire at pens and make birdies so uh yeah 17 was a bummer that that whole uh that t- shot’s been kind of giving me some struggles this week and um I’m excited to come back next year and really dial it in in practice rounds because I I hit driver the first round hit it right then I hit three woods and the three Woods were good but I felt like you know I was so far behind I felt like I needed to hit driver and pushed up there and try to make eagle and unfortunately it was a bad swing and uh wish I had it back maybe hit a three-wood who knows but um it is what it is it was a great round and uh yeah I mean all I was trying to do is continue to make birdies and push but um yeah on to the next when you were waking up seven bag did you did you have a number in mind that you felt like if I shoot this I had a chance and obviously Dave is kind of said well no no no I gotta take care of this but 54 yeah I mean it was crazy and it’s funny I walking off 12th the 13th green um or excuse me yeah 12th green 13th green I was talking to Keith Mitchell and um I was like man or actually hold on let’s take the story back after four holes I was 400 through four and maybe I was 500 through five even and I was like all right well if I shoot 54 I just need Davis Thompson and not shoot 59 better and we might have a chance so um that was kind of my mindset early in the round cuz I was making so many birdies and then yeah coming down the stretch uh after 13 with Keith we were talking about just how many birdies Davis was making and how it was like a race for second at that point um but pretty cool to see see a guy make a ton of birdies it’s obviously out there a lot of low scores um but it’s hard to do every single round and he seems to be doing it I I saw you smiling a couple times on the course you’re smiling right now just how how good do you feel coming off of this performance yeah feel good uh you know I want to be closer up uh towards the lead and I want to get in contention I want to seal the deal here soon but whenever you’re playing good golf and just putting yourself in the mix uh I’m just continuing to build more and more confidence feeling very comfortable and for me I feel like it’s only a matter of time before I get the job done and um maybe even next week in Scotland Ben it was your first uh appearance here at the John Deere classic how would you rate your experience and where do you feel like this event could fit in your schedule going forward I loved it um you know it’s funny I wanted to play last last year it’s just I coming coming off the corn fairy tour you’re limited with your amount of starts but I was playing so well I was getting in all the big events I qualified for the open and I had to take an off week somewhere El I would have done 12 or 13 weeks in a row and I was kind of bummed because I looked at you know some of the data and the golf course and I felt like this was a course that actually fit my game pretty well um so I was excited to come here this year um and give it a test and uh I made sure I I almost thought about not playing again a few weeks ago and I was like I’ve got to go play it because I think it’s a great course for me and yeah um you know it just goes to show actually was and I feel like if I you know I’m a little sharper the first couple rounds next year I’ll be right there in the mix so and you mentioned that this course sets up for you well uh Scotland and Northern Ireland will eventually be a much different test of golf what are some positive uh indicators from this week that you can take going forward as you head into uh Link’s golf yeah no I feel really good about my ball striking and uh Putter’s kind of coming along last week and Detroit I was kind of struggling with my putter I actually made a putter switch for week I’ve done that a couple times in my career and the week after I make a putter switch uh I always play really well so I’ve got to be I got to figure out how to actually make that work whether I need to putt with like a mallet for the first couple days in fracture on and then go back to my my blade for the tournament but yeah I switch P last week switched back to my old trusty this week and um yeah it was a it was a good week all around with ball striking I feel like you know just building confidence doesn’t matter what type of golf you’re playing what type of course whenever you go into the next tournament it doesn’t matter if it’s going to be harder or easier you’re still feeling good about your game and so just got to battle the elements over there see what it brings me and um hopefully I get a good draw in the wave and play well and I noticed the sunglasses were back today resolution for the situation yes there’s they’re never leaving I don’t think I I enjoy them and uh kind of it helps me a little bit with what I’m I’m dealing with and so I love it and it seems to be working did you have you did not have this proceder oh you did have it yeah I did but the procedure was just to avoid retinal detachment because I had five re retinal holes in both eyes so I I see floaters but they’re not terrible um but the surgery was just to prevent my Rea from detaching so I can still see love that that was the most important thing yeah the floaters can stay do you play practice rounds with Davis uh you know I haven’t played with him a bunch recently but at home we play you know every once in a while and it’s it’s hard on with the PJ tour schedule I feel like we’re not home very much and it’s hard to sync up too everyone’s got different schedules but um we have played a fair share of golf together next door neighbors members at the same course um and yeah we play practice from time time or even tournament rounds what have you seen about his game is different or better he’s just solid I mean he hits it long and hits it straight uh he does everything you expect of a an elite golfer um you know him coming off the corn fairy Tor he’s a younger guy um we reg graduated the same year and he’s just continued to progress he had a great um great week last year at the AMX battling it out with John ROM builds a lot of confidence um and he’s just a solid player I knew both of us you know one of us was going to get a win um you know sooner than later and it looks like he’s going to get it done but he’s a great guy very even keeled out there he’s not going to talk a lot he’s just going to go about his business and um and he’s not afraid to make a lot of birdies as we can tell yeah of course thanks guys
