ladies and gentlemen it is time for one of the greatest events of the entire season it’s the24 United States Olympic trials taking place in Hayward Field in Eugene Oregon this is historic ground for track and field from where Legends were born to the world championships in 2022 we have seen almost every kind of performance go down in this very stadium and the electric nature of this event in 2024 cannot be under stated this might be the most difficult team to make in all of Athletics from sprinting to distance running to throwing and jumping you have to be one of the greatest athletes in the world in any event just to make the team and for today on the very first day of the 2024 Olympic trials we have already seen something unbelievable go down in the men’s 400 MERS we witnessed absolute Mastery from someone that many people didn’t think would perform well at the very top of the men’s 400 and even though we have a world champion and previous World medalists in this field the performance of the day went to the 16-year-old Quincy Wilson now we have already seen Wilson go absolutely insane in the indoor 400 and the outdoor 400 m this season but he hasn’t quite been able to crack the 45sec barrier which is of course an absolutely worldclass Mark in the 400 m however for this opening round Wilson finally did it against one of the strongest fields in the world he actually came out first in the second heat with a time of 44. 66 seconds which was not only fast enough to qualify him into the next round but this was a new world youth record taking down the previous Mark of Justin Robinson by a few ten of a second this was also a brand new National High School record over the 400 m and to do it at just 16 honestly justifies logic right now Wilson just completed his sophomore year of high school so from this point on he still has two entire seasons of track and field to lower his new personal record at 44.6 6 now this time does Place him as the fastest u8 athlete of all time finishing ahead of athletes such as Justin Robinson and the legend himself OB Moore but what is truly amazing is that this time actually places him at number eight all time in the world junior rankings and it actually ties him to the 100th of a second with lesea Merritt who ran a time of 44.6 6 back in 2005 and Merit went on to become an Olympic champion it really does defy all kind of running expectations to throw down a time this fast at just 16 years of age and funnily enough the only athlete to run faster than him for this opening round was Quincy Hall so right now on the top performances for the opening Heats of the men’s 400 you’ve got Quincy Hall followed by Quincy Wilson at number number one and number two it has already been an absolutely historic season for Quincy Wilson who broke the National High School indoor record in the 400 meters earlier this season he hasn’t lost one time to another High School athlete and because of this first place finish for this opening heat he is actually still undefeated and that includes running against a worldclass field at the United States Olympic trials it is not outside of realistic expectations to see this 16-year-old making the Olympic team and if he doesn’t qualify individually there’s also a chance he can make the team in a 4×400 relay team but there is also two more rounds to run and that will certainly require extreme strength and he’ll also have to run against athletes such as Bryce deadmond Michael Norman and Vernon Norwood three very experienced 400 Runners and I’m sure they will be ready when the finals do come either way this is just insane and I am thoroughly impressed by Quincy Wilson in 2024 and with this mind I would love to pass one final question off to you do you think Quincy Wilson will make this year’s Olympic team in the 400 meters thanks for watching everyone and as always until next time

  1. If he makes it into the team, will he need a written permission from his mum to compete at the Olympic Games? XD

  2. Soooo….U r not gonna cover the Fact that Eryon Knighton tested Positive for a derivative of Trenbolone …Caught cheating yet still cleared to compete …Just like that Cheat Justin Gatlin caught Twice for doping .

  3. I don't understand what's going on with his form. Someone please explain to me. Is it safe to run with one's head backwards and neck stiff? Wouldn't want him to get injured or anything.

  4. “Will Quincy Wilson make the 2024 US Olympic Team?”

He certainly has the talent to finish in the top 3. The only question is does he have the wherewithal to survive the opening rounds and BRING IT to the Final.

Experienced athletes learn how to pace themselves through the opening rounds. I think youth and adrenaline will frevail and carry Wilson to Paris in the Mens 400.

  5. I've never seen that. At 16 he looks actually younger. His anaerobic metabolism is probably not even completely mature. Technically he is awfull, he runs like a 12 years old. Yet he runs sub 45. Even bolt was less impressive at his age. He will probably run sub 43 in a few years. The craziest part to me is that despite all the energy leaks due to his poor form its last leg was the fastest of his heat.

  6. A feel-good story for everyone except the veteran athletes eating his dust. I'm glad this young man seems to have good people around him though. I hope he is a star for a long time. Something about his stride reminds me of Michael Johnson.

  7. I am interested to see how he navigates the rounds as he hasn't had to do that before. Assuming he is saving something and keeps a calm head, I wouldn't bet against him.

  8. I hope he makes the finals and can run on the relay team for experience and get a gold medal.

  9. I don't think he'll make the team. He's fast but has he the endurance and stamina to make it through the heats? And that time was flat-out, balls-=to-the-wall. More experienced athletes have reserves, but he doesn't.

  10. Barring injury, he's going to be the the one to break the 400 WR and maybe dip into 42 seconds. I know it's bad to put those expectations on him, but I just 100% believe it

  11. This kid ran 2 44 splits in one day and brought his team back after they fell in both races. This is not a matter of will he make the team.
It's a matter of who will be the one to push him to his limit. This kid has never been pushed and when it happens, Michael Johnson better watch out! Records are meant to be broken!

  12. Very bad news, 100% of athletes of this age who perform at this level disappear within 2 years.

  13. 'fastest you have a good channel but I wish you would cut out the misleading titles. Fastest teenager ever would be the world junior 100m record holder. This guy is brilliant so you don't have to exaggerate. He would be the fastest ever 16 year old at 400m but as you say a few minutes in he is the 6th fastest teenager at 400m. Let's hope he progresses and goes sub 44 and even sub 43. A lot of these phenoms burn out early. He still looks like a young kid which is promising as he will get better as he matures. A lot of top teenagers are basically men at 16 which is why they don't improve.

  14. A lot of those hs record holders looked like grown adults, but he still looks 16 with a few years of growin' left. I look forward to seeing his progress!
