another major week in the game we’re at sahale in the east side of Seattle for the KPMG women’s PGA Championship this week a gorgeous opening day temperatures in the 80s the sun is shining Tom Abbott alongside Karen stles let’s show you what has already happened today and we begin with the world number one Nelly quarter this at the 14th for a birdie having started her round from the 10th greens are really pure first thing in the morning and nearly taking full advantage there yeah she Bur bir her opening hole number 10 dropped a shot at 12 birded 13 you saw that birdie at 14 this was her Approach at the 15th from 145 yards to just over 4 feet and this is the Nelly quarter that we’ve been used to seeing not the of the past two weeks where she’s missed the cut well she got it to three under par did get it to four under on on the front line today dropped two shots at four back at two under par Leona McGuire who played so well in this championship last year leading going into the final round slipped a little bit on Sunday looking for Redemption this year she’s off to a nice start how about Amy Yang well she’s a player that we’re used to see him play well in major championships and here She is again so Amy Yang part of that group at two under which includes Nelly cter and Leona Maguire along with Charlie Hull and you can see Allison corus has finished her round AK ey won last week on the jlpga tour so she is in good form it’s the second oldest major in the women’s game and we’re underway let’s go out and check in with Nelly Corder this for a par at the E this is her 17th hole of the day important for her to play well today it was I mean when you consider what happened at the US Women’s Open first round Charlie likes these Tree Line courses well it’s it’s very defined um the shot shape is clearly visible it’s right there in front of you if you’re if it’s lined by trees and you know having played a lot of golf at Wen which is insanely treelined um this probably doesn’t feel too tight for her Patty tatan starting her day playing alongside hanako shibuno and Danielle Kang and that’s a nice way to start 181 yards but it does play downhill there one of her sort of three quter swings that she likes to play seen so much more of that from her this year finishing up on the 18th this is hyoju Kim they’ve changed the 18th this year from a par four to a par five so we’re going to see more birdies it was a very difficult Par Four to finish eight years ago winner of this Championship back in 2021 at the Atlanta Athletic Club and that is the way to finish there for Nelly yeah I mean she looks like she’s very comfortable on these greens rolling it well we saw in our highlights how she had made a couple of good ones there too so did get it to four under early in the day but around to 69 I think she’ll be happy with that back over to number nine and Hannah green trying to follow Nelly in here yes that was going in with some steam confident stroke there from a player he won a couple of times this year was beaten by Nelly at the muho Americas open they battled all the way to the close to number six in Yang and these bunkers are immaculately presented this week everything kind of falls down into the into the bottom of it the first and Jinan second with Paige McKenzie watching this is a nine iron from 136 yards yeah very nicely done oh yeah nice way to start for Lexi and you can see you know the the extra the power and strength creates more spin she was able to control that one on the green this is a player celebrating 23rd birthday today she’s achieved a lot so young it’s over in France on the banks of Lake Geneva Lexi Thompson opens with a birdie that that look very confident casually just just tapping that ball in and it was no tapping range so looks good just a little wedge in for her second long and straight off the tea is Brook Henderson’s ammo now Henderson for bird at the first yeah nicely the penalty area there on that front right side no that was definitely an aggressive line she took off the see an aggressive part as well and sagram joins that big group at two underpar and I think that’s important for a player page so far so good anyway yeah out low and a little left of her Target but yeah a couple good bounces and that turned out just fine oh I Lexi Thompson’s can have a putt here to tie the lead and a putt to birly the first three holes of the championship dream start for Lexi and she ties the lead it’s going to have some right to left break speed maybe a little bit uphill did she yeah made a few of those eight years ago that’s pretty good I think sometimes when you look at sand saves it can be a little bit misleading back over to Britney lindum at the ninth making the turn trying to chip it in and does here’s Carolina englas over at the first her home coures Columbia Edgewater Country Club there are some of those vibes here aren’t there this was just a moment ago Stephanie Connelly eworth at the ninth okay we’ve seen that a couple of times today third shot par 4 e yucas saso 106 all uphill there is a little Ridge just over this bunker and there it is how can I give myself a putt for par smart play and could very well pay it off p tavat tanut over at the 10th to tie the lead she won on home soil in Thailand at the 11th saxum for birdie this P Co to the left okay so srom rejoins the leaders at three under this on a great line this looks like the Lexi of old back up the hill Oh my gosh these pars on these last two holes for victory at Mission Hills a tight golf course in its own right Rex’s got the lead outright 32 on the front ly grant for a bir at 10 you like Lynn coming in this week as you can get in terms of scoring conditions just a moment ago cheyen KN at eight oh wait till she turns around and sees this pin High left would be very nice started off pretty far left falling to the right P Lex’s going to have that to regain the outright lead all smiles and why not this is half of her approach shots today have been inside of 14 ft she is leading the field and strokes gained approach did it get there yes another birdie for Lexi Thompson and she is on top day one at sahali it’s a nine iron looking to hit a little fade into this back right ho location she’s put in a good spot there py tavat tanut staring down this Approach at 16 I mean just a fabulous drive to leave 134 whole location ped at the top of the little tier this looks great what a fabulous drive that was right there too in the mayor’s office that is flag hunting and it is going to be a very nice t-shir this for the her sixth birdie of the day that is the field high so far ties Nelly and muu Mas so far today with six birdies and Le he still got some holes left to go well with the last major enano shibuno contended she was a runner-up to her country woman yucas Sasso and here she is at 18 and this is from 94 she’s been playing quite well today not too dissimilar to W in this go course in terms of the the tree so that of course is where she won her AIG winners open yeah definitely gave it a little bit extra having seen yukus come up quite a bit short but but you certainly don’t want to end it like this this for par and a round of 68 it’s brilliant so good a player who has been so good for so long she leads the way after round one
