this is a big head-to-head in one corner we got this the tailor made p790 one of the most successful tailor made ions they’ve ever brought out in fact one of the most successful ions anybody has ever brought out ever they cater for a wide variety of golfers from Elite golfers all the way up to high handicappers they’ve had many different iterations and each year they’ve got a little bit better uh real Cutting Edge and design a lot of brands have let’s be honest copied the p790 because it’s been that successful however it comes with a price tag for a set of seven irons £1,200 so not cheap and in the other Corner this set of irons the Kirkland Signature irons from basically from Costco this is the p790 equivalent it’s let’s be honest it’s taken a lot of inspiration from the p790 in the head the fact it’s filled with speed foam the fact it’s Hollow head design it’s got tungsten it’s forged it’s pretty much a carbon copy however the price is a fraction of the price it’s £480 for a set of seven irons in today’s video we’re going to go head-to-head with these two sets of irons with seven irons pitching wedges and four irons to see if there’s any difference does this one dominate or can you get something just as good for a fraction of the price the a that is ridiculous round one fight okay I’m going to go p790 first uh 79 LOF is 30.5 Dees I’ll come on to the loft of the Kirkland C in a minute um like I said it’s so successful these sets of irons I see them every time I go to a golf club you look around the bags of clubs dotted around and you see m p790s from really good players to high handicappers they’ve really managed to cater for all different types of golfers um fairly strong lofted at 30.5 degrees I’m expecting this to go pretty far the big thing is they sound good they look good and they feel good and they’re forgiving that’s pretty what else do you want in a set of golf clubs um look great behind the golf ball at top Edge is just that little bit thick uh but not too offputting right first shot with the p790 that is exactly why the p790 has been successful I didn’t hit that well I didn’t I hit it really off low off the face it felt okay but it wasn’t a great strike but like look at the result it still found the green I think that’s that’s where they’ve really managed to produce a club that looks so good but is genuinely so forgiving but that’s not the true reflection of what this iron can do let me see if I can get one out the middle [Music] that’s a better golf shot out the mid I mean that’s gone so much further out the middle these irons feel so so good I remember the first ever time I tested p790s many years ago now they’ve kept this model all the way through probably updating them every 18 months two years or so um that that feel from this look of iron was like wow yeah they’ve really got they’re they’re on to something here um often for giving irons look a bit more ugly they’re not as Sleek but these are at the moment this iteration they’ve gone for a slightly more brushed finish overall with just kind of this Slither through the middle which has got a little bit more shine to it um but just a beautiful design they really are classic They Don’t Really date the p790s and that is as good as it gets I mean I’ve actually put the flag they’re at 180 yards thinking that would be decent for S iron that carried 186 yards they’ve also got power they’ve got them right I’m going get a few more and I’ll switch over to the Kirkland [Music] Signature nice that’s a a good batch with the p79 79 let’s move over to Kirkland Signature next okay moving over to the Kirkland Signature just honestly putting these two clubs side by side it’s like they’ve come from the same mold they’re identical in almost every single way um even the fact that the the the grip is actually that kind of gray color um the p79 comes with a Golf Pride the Kirk comes with a Lampkin but apart from that I mean they look honestly the head shape is absolutely identical the only difference with the seven iron the L is 31° it’s half a degree weaker and it comes with now more this shiny kind of finish um but still even that back little Slither almost like kind of Border in between um is featured in these irons and you see the same word forged on the neck you’ve got tungsten in the head uh you’ve got this kind of weight p in the toe areas where they inject the speed foam or the the the foam as Kirkland Signature call it the only big difference is and I think kicks in from Seven um seven up to four iron has got a speed slot in the p790s that does not feature in the Kirkland Signature so whether bottom strikes are going to be worse off with the Cookland signature we’ll find out that’s kind of my bad Miss if I don’t catch it uh so potentially it might go just a few yards less distance just cuz it’s half a degree weaker with the seven iron but let’s see let’s see how it Stacks up honestly it looks so personally I prefer the brushed finish of the p7 90 this I feel like is a bit too shiny certainly if you’re playing in sunshine that would be an issue I feel like shiny clubs do tend to look a little bit more dated once they’ve been in the bag for a few months right C signature be really interesting to hit these straight after p790s cuz that’s going to give me the best idea on feel they feel so so similar I think it’s a very slight difference in sound but it’s it’s not much but feel it feels almost identical that’s crazy actually I honestly think if you if you did a blind test with 100 golfers they wouldn’t know the difference between the p719 and kland signature certainly on fi first two shots were almost identical just little Fades off the middle line not bad results at all and strong for distance not hit one quite in the middle just yet this time I will oh that’s the strike that’s the strike they’re they’re identical honestly there a there just a very and I’m being very very very picky here there’s a slight difference in in frequency of of sound when you hit the shot but I mean it’s minute it really is feel wise they’re almost identical let’s go one let’s go a few more with the Kirkland Signature oh that would be an interesting one to see that would be really interesting I didn’t hit that well look at that I hit that that was out of all the shots I’ve hit so far that was the worst struck shot and look at the result I mean it was dead straight it landed 171 and it just ran past the past the [Music] pin okay I’m now going to move on to the pitching wedges and then the four irons um just to give you an idea looks wise again the pitching wedges honestly look identical I’d probably say the Kirk signature just had a very slight smaller head shape that’s it and there’s the ex the same Loft 45° so I’m going to hit them in a second and then the four irons yeah very very similar again interestingly with the 4 iron the Kirkland Signature is one degree stronger than the p790 which kind doesn’t match up to the 79 really cuz that was weaker um just I must admit the four IR is probably the club that looks the most different to each other and as as I mentioned the p79 has actually got the speed slot in it right let me get some wedges let me get some four IR then we can have a look at some data [Music] got to say I honestly think that pitching wedge of the C and signature feels better that felt softer I like I like that one more you didn’t think I’d say [Music] okay for of the cooking [Music] signature oh Behave that is ridiculous that is ridiculous okay so the results are in very very interesting first off feel wise I felt like seven irons were so unbelievably similar to each other I couldn’t recognize between the two like I said I just felt like the uh the sound was just ever so slight difference between the two but really I didn’t prefer or dislike either of them both very very good the pitching wedges interestingly actually felt like the Costco cooking signature pitching wedge felt softer just a little bit softer off the face which I preferred and the for iron that Costco 4 was something else right let’s dive through the numbers first off uh very interesting reading looking at the 79s first the p790 carried further 182 yards compared to the Costco 79 which carried 176 yards there’s two main factors to why potentially at p790 averaged six yards further first off it’s just it’s stronger lofted albe it only half degree it’s going to have an influence and the other big thing there was a couple of the p790s that went nearest 190 yards of carry which increased the average where I would actually say the Costco the kirken signat 7 iron was more consistent around that 176 Mark just something to note pitching wedges pretty similar 133 yards playing 136 yards spin rates as you can see from the seven the seven iron sorry and the pitching wedges very similar to each other um the p7 94 iron carried at 2117 yards and as I said that Kirkland Signature for iron wow what a rocket that is 222 yards of carry distance it’s a degree stronger granted um but it just came out beautifully you can see ball flights there in the top corner you can see the difference in ball flights and also the dispersion very similar if I’m honest not much to report you can really dive into these numbers and you could pick them apart and definitely spot differences but not vast differences I think they are very very very very similar sets of clubs I do the p790s and cooking signatures are so similar I suppose where you then pay the extra price tag for the p790s the fact that they created this iron the p790 the R&D Department the research the the the hard work that goes behind the scenes to create this iron where someone like Kirk and signature have just come on and basically copied and pasted let’s be honest they’ve not put so much money into marketing research the other thing with the T Mage you pay the extra premium price because you can get fitted you can have the L angles changed a lot length change the right shafts you can have it completely fitted to you where the Kirkland signatures is very severely limited in that department so as you can see from the data not much difference but if you want to get them absolutely specified to you I suppose you got to pay that extra price tag until Kirkland Signature come up with a custom fitting option guys thanks for watching be sure to check out more videos from the hit Channel and we shall see you very soon

  1. Mate I love your reviews I’m so glad you’re doing honest reviews not just doing what the manufacturers want you to say

  2. Also think resale. What will people pay for a used set of P790 compared to usedKirkland irons?

  3. TBF, one could purchase the Kirkland, have custom fitted shafts, lie angles, grips, and any other customizations and still save money on the TM.

  4. Wow I’m a standard lie and length golfer. Why would I buy Taylormade ever again. Currently gaming previous model P790s which I love and purchased for £600 5-pw. Will direct to consumer clubs put pressure on the bigs boys to reduce price.I doubt it

  5. Breaking 75 with Kirkland Signature complete bag and balls. Success = Donation to charity of choice

  6. Rick definitely needs to do a Break 75 video with these clubs! Your stikes were amazing with the Kirklands.

  7. I love how you treat all brands with the same respect and a positive attitude. Most of the golf channels I follow laugh at sub-brands or copies of famous irons and approach them with a different attitude, resulting most of the time in a bias result that makes the whole test totally useless. Keep up the good work Rick, this is why you're the best youtube channel around!

  8. The big brand pricing is flat out criminal. Costco really should widen their golf brand more and offer cavity backs, muscle backs, more shaft options, fairway woods, etc. They'd make a killing but of course it's never going to happen.

  9. Couldn't be more impressed with the Kirkland clubs from what you've shown. It's seriously impressive

  10. Rick, you should check out the Maltby ts1 im. Pretty much the same price as the Kirkland but they will build them to your specs. Amazing feel to them as well. I highly recommend you check them out.

  11. Love the content as always! Got any sets you want to give away? I down to 3 irons in my set that aren't banged up – they're 10 years old so have played a lot of rounds hah

  12. Rick let me get those clubs! lol! You can’t get them in the U.S for less than $1,000 because of scalpers and low stock!

  13. the kirkland irons are similar to the p790 but so is every other club ever made, really nothing special, its just a hollow body iron with foam in the middle which slightly dampens the noise and vibration, taylormade isnt the only manufacturer to use material in the cavity to reduce noise and vibration as well as tungsten weights. i think the p790 is superior because they probably went through a lot of prototypes until they got the p790, but i think its a marginal difference for most people.

  14. I really loved how you showed respect to both sets of clubs. I agree that Kirkland are limited in sets and selection. But, I hit some the other day at the range and really liked the way they felt. I have Ping i500's that I paid $400 for (demo set) and thought the Kirklands were similar in performance.
    Great review Rick! Cheers!!!

  15. Hell yeah, love the audio comparison. You're right, there is a difference, but very small. Not even sure which one I prefer.

  16. Only for the most unforgiving chopper. Lol
Shaft makes a big difference and the choice obviously. Grip and size even. Chop once or twice a month and go for it.

  17. Some would say that TM stole the P790 from PXG. Why is that forgotten and not talked about? The Wilson Dynapower Forged are the best irons money can buy for most non-pro golfers……… period.
