Bryson DeChambeau’s swing is known for being unique and powerful. Here are some key characteristics:
Single Plane Emphasis: DeChambeau strives to swing the club on a single plane, minimizing the loop the clubhead makes during the swing. This approach is different from the more traditional two-plane swing.
Wide Stance and Early Shift: He uses a wider than average stance and initiates the swing with a lateral shift, transferring weight to his right leg early.

A lot of what makes golf difficult comes down to our mindset and the words we use when talking about the game. Let’s dive into simplifying your approach to the golf swing by identifying your specific swing type.
Using this simple test, we can start realizing which swing type you might fit into.
Recognizing Swing Types
Shoulder Plane:
Common among taller golfers with longer arms.
Requires more rotation from the legs and core.
Setup adjustments: left hip higher at address to facilitate better rotation.
Hip Plane:
Suited for golfers with shorter arms in proportion to their height.
Often associated with the classic “shallow” swing.
Setup adjustments: slight backward stance to maximize rotation on the downswing.
Torso Plane:
Typically for golfers whose wingspan equals their height.
Maintains medium rotation on both backswing and downswing.
Often the focus of generic golf instruction.

today I’ve got somewhat of a public service announcement or more of a GSA golfer Service Announcement you know Everyone likes to say golf is hard it’s not hard and saying your that to yourself is making it harder I’m not saying it’s not a challenging difficult game but You’ got to be careful with the words the mindset that you put into your vocabulary when it comes to golf we make it harder than it needs to be that’s what I want you to remember and the way most of the golf industry and the way most of you are going about trying to make a goal swing is making it too hard and what it comes down to is yes it’s about technique but every golfer fits into one of three different swing types and if you are trying to swing a golf club that isn’t your specific swing type and you don’t understand what that causes what that creates you are always going to be in the frustrating Loop of golf inconsistency those days where it’s like man I wish I could play better why why am I good yesterday why am I good today you’re on YouTube you’re on YouTube right now trying to find something that gives you that extra little Edge but here’s the thing most of the time and I mean it most of the time you’re applying tips that are geared not just for pro golfers tour golfers but geared towards just one of those swing types very few of them match all three or service all three swing types so with that said how can you determine what swing type you are there are a couple of ways and it’s a little bit intricate and I can’t go into every facet of it in this one video but I’ll give you one sort of major test to give you an idea but as I explain each of the Swing types we are going to be able to ask entertain just from hearing what I say about some of the problem and you’ll be like that’s me or if you’ve been trying something else and it’s been really hard for you to do you’ll go that’s me so you’ll have a good idea about what swing type you fit in now yes there’s some crossovers but for Simplicity sakes we’re going to discover what is your best swing type and from there the mechanics the setup the intentions that you have change and when you accept these alterations and when they make sense for your body type you will not have to manipulate as much as you need to you will not have to fight inconsistency and frustration as much as you are and you will know what swing tips ideas or even pro golfers that you should be paying attention to CU they are more like you and your body type swing type let’s get into it a lot of you are not going to be ready to hear this stuff and that’s fine but for those of you who are going to stick with me and hear this out I promise you it’s going to pay huge dividends now when it comes to the swing types it comes from a couple of things one it comes from your golf experience not necessarily how many years but what your Tendencies have been what you’ve been trying to do or what you think you need to do might not be the right thing but all of these habits all of these intentions good bad they all affect us every golf shot we’ve hit good and bad we’ve learned from we’ve absorbed we’ve created neurological Pathways for and they are all embedded in us that’s why always the quick tips some of them work some of them don’t but as I alluded to before having the knowledge to know whether a tip quick or not is viable for you is going to make such a difference the other factor to the swing type and knowing which one you are really comes down to your body what your ligaments are your height various things like this and there are multiple kind of measurements that we can look at it’s also depending on the clubs you have like The Loft and lie and how you set up to the ball but as I said this is just an introductory so we’re just going to do very very simple what we have is wingspan okay is your wingspan the same as your height or is it longer is my wingspan longer than my height is it shorter than my height those three are I wouldn’t say categorically definitive answer of what swing type you are but they are a good guide for us to be going on with my arms are longer than my height by it’s like 1 and 1/2 2 in okay what that means is as I’m making my back swing one it’s going to give me a slightly more higher slightly steeper plane just a little bit but that’s not what we’re really focusing on what we’re focusing on is as we deliver the club back down I am a shoulder plane golfer what that means is as we’re looking straight down as I try and deliver the club the shaft of the club here all being neutral my Pivot being relatively neutral because of the length of my arm to my body and shoulders I am going to be nearer to my shoulders here shoulders up to my neck basically a little bit steeper as I’m coming down that’s because my arms are a bit wider so the swing type is shoulder plane that is me and here’s the rub most golfers are actually shoulder PL especially male golfers because most of us have slightly longer arms than we do our height you know I’m 6′ one and A2 and my wingspan is about 2 in longer so what this means in reality if I for example work hard on trying to shallow the club here you know trying to get gas here or trying to drop the club and bring it in this way literally I cannot do it and do you know how many months thousands of shots trying to get more shallow trying to get in the pocket here and you know rotate through that way some days I could do it some days I couldn’t and it was driving me mental why I couldn’t do it cuzz I was I I know I can do it but no matter how hard I really tried over a period of time whatever it might be my arms would always be a bit too much out okay and because I was trying to get shallow and then talk about this rotation get open here all that did was because my arms are longer it’s going to fling that club outwards that way and I’m going to drag it over here and then I’ll be going backwards and forwards and I’ll be stuck in a muddle and it’s not my fault it’s just that’s how I am built so knowing that I was able to alter a few factors but it changes the setup for one thing so a shoulder plane swing I basically need to have the hip further forward at a dress here because on a shoulder plane what I want to do ultimately to be the most consistent I can be I want to try and get rotation from my legs from my hips from my core to be able to get a more rotation on the back swing so I can make a bigger wind up here right and then as I deliver the club I do not want to try and rotate and get open hard here because as we’ve learned that’s going to sling the club all the way out this way so then I’ll try and rescue it here do you resonate with this if you do let me know because I know the majority are actually going to be this swing play but by doing that opening up is going to be a lot harder so what do I need to do what do shoulder plane people need to do they’ll be much better served working on a better rotation here Our intention is actually going to feel like we’re more Square to our Strike Zone as we’re hitting the ball okay so it’s actually going to feel like I rotate and move back down but my body my legs my chest everything is a lot more Square impact to where I want to be and then I can release forward what that does it basically stops the club from moving too far out it stops me from having to manipulate it trying to bring it in all I do is wind up and shift and deliver that club into the back of the ball with effortless manipulation like zero manipulation and by doing that I can swing faster easier and have less thoughts going on so all I need to do on a basic level is ensure my setup my left hip is higher cuz that’s going to help me facilitate my rotation through and also it’s my rotation on the back swing but it’s going to help me deliver into a strong commanding position at impact so when I do those things just those things alone let’s just brush this nice and slowly right so I’m going to get that hip forward I’m going to exaggerate a bit here I’m going to rotate more and I’m going to deliver the club back down so there’s the shoulder plane basic basic overview the next one we need to look at is hip plane hip plane comes from a wingspan being slightly shorter than the height you can think of Sergio Garcia I talk about dropping it in the slot this way shallowing Garcia has much shorter forearms than mine in comparison but his arms are a bit shorter and several other golfers are shorter so literally as he’s making a back swing and as he tries to bring that down his arms are literally more in so he can rotate more get that club dropping on the inside and rotate harder in actual fact he kind of has to but for me to try that and for other shoulder planers to try that it’s going to leave you stuffed the changes of a hip plane setup we talked about forward with the shoulder plane hip plane we’re going to be a little bit more back because we don’t want as much rotation on the back swing we want more rotation on the downswing so we’re actually getting ourselves open more impact because we’re going to be able to drop it more it’s going to be closer to us here and then we’re going to drop it that way that is going to require less manipulation what we can do as we go about our golf games and as we start to think about this and as you start to think about this I want you to really think about what works best for you what works best for you without manipulation because that is the important thing to make sure that we’re not doing too much that we don’t have to alter our swings too much just the modifications at the setup the modifications in our intentions of back swing and downswing make all the difference but if you’re doing the wrong one you’re going to be really really struggling now as we go up just to hit this shot I want you to let me know does this resonate you know I’ve asked you before but let me know because this I promise you is going to be gamechanging and we do have a ton of resources that are coming out and a whole new program that’s going to help you for once and for all figure out your ideal goal swing your ideal swing type your ideal swing plane all of these factors are going to make golf more enjoyable easier more consistent and less stress there is one more and it is the Torso plane okay the Torso plane is basically as we drop the club down it’s splitting my torso it’s somewhat between my shoulder and my hip shoulder plane is here hip plane is down here torso plane is somewhere here now most golf instruction focuses on this torso plane but the thing is because we are trying to match somewhere in the middle we’re not committing to one way or the other much less people are actually torso playe where they’ve got equal wingspan to height than you realize and trying to always be this neutral kind of golfer is quite difficult I want you to start understanding that the Torso is yes we’re going to have a medium amount of rotation on the back swing we’re going to have a medium amount of rotation on the downswing and we’re always going to be able to get in the medium sort of torso but if you’ve got longer arms again you’re going to be flinging it out too much because you’re not quite rotating enough on the back swing whereas the hip plane we try and add a little bit of resistance we’ve got the setup here but we’re actually going to feel like we’ve got a bit too much resistance here which is fine if you’re a HP plane singer but if you’re extending too much with long arms this way and you’ve got longer arms in your shoulder plane as you swing down it’s always going to bring you over the top which is the way a lot of you are doing because you got to think I’ve got to get open got to get open it’s making you worse by doing that torso plane is very neutral but it’s not ideal for Everyone by any stretch of the imagination as you’re listening to me waffle on you’re not going to get the conclusive answers that you exactly want but I promise you just by thinking about this a little bit by measuring getting and measuring your wingspan to your height and understanding those basic basic fundamental changes of what you need to do for your swing pattern you can start eliminating some ideas about what you need to do or what you think you need to do to play good golf okay is that going to go in is it going to go in look at that lovely nice little putt doesn’t really count obviously there we have it hopefully this introduction is going to at least get you thinking get you testing a couple of things out see where you fit and we can help you take it to the next level and get it perfectly right and you will be amazed at how much better your golf
