here are the most common mistakes I would see golfers make when pitching around the green you don’t want to be that golfer who’s chunking their ball into the bunker or thinning the golf ball through the back of the green and then 10 shots later you’re in the hole so here’s some of the most common mistakes I see with lessons and some really simple resolutions on how to fix them so let’s get straight into it mistake number one that I see most golfers make when coming for lessons is they stand really wide it looks too much like a full swing this is not a full swing it’s completely different so I see a lot of people with a shoulder width stance maybe slightly narrower than shoulder wood STS but in reality when you’re pitching we want to have your feet about two Club heads wide why do we want that one it’s going to take away unnecessary power we don’t want to have a big pivot and weight transfer and also it means that you’re less likely to sway off the golf ball which would cause pure contact what we want to try and do is aim for two Club heads wide with the left foot flared slightly and that really helps us move on to the next point which is getting the weight correct so definitely make sure you check that out nice little reference point don’t go too wide when pitching around the green and that is definitely part one of striking these shots nice around the green which leads us on really nicely to mistake number two common mistake number two that I see is a lot of weight on the back foot either at a dress or definitely coming into impact a lot of golfers struggling with pitching might start okay might not sway off the ball they might keep the weight left but certainly in an effort to lift the ball start to move backwards onto the back foot and what does that do that moves the low point of the swing back and with that we’re definitely much more likely to strike the ground before the ball which if it’s soft you could chunk it if it’s firm it might not go as far as you would like or number two it could lead to a lot of thins where the club reaches the bottom of its Arc the club swings up you hit the middle of the golf ball and it goes absolutely flying so what we want to try and do to get a feeling of correct weight distribution is set ourselves up and what I want you to try and do after you’ve got that narrow stance lift your right foot and place just your big toe on the ground no other part of your right foot and start to make some swings with that feeling so there’s no weight change there we keep that big toe of the right foot in the ground here narrow big toe big toe in the ground and with that we keep that weight on that left leg mistake number three do not hold your Club too tight if you hold it really tight that is not going to help you with the release of the club with the hinge of the wrist and it’s going to have a lot of tension in your hands and arms we want to hold that club nice and light as well as holding slightly down about a three out of 10 a good way to get that feeling take the thumbs off the grip so it feels nice and light even hit some shots with that feeling but it needs to feel nice and light so that you can release the club head and keep plenty of Loft for a high soft Landing chop so nice and light that will help us with a wrist engine release nice and Light and we can hit some really nice soft pit shots with that action we’ve covered a few basic concepts we don’t want to stand too wide we want to keep the weight on the right leg and it’s a nice light grip from there the actual body motion what we want to make sure we do is that the arms and body move together a lot of golfers try and keep their head down don’t move their body as they’re approaching impact and you get this sort of look here where they dipped that’s going to lead to a few things deeper divots poor low Point poor striking and you’re really going to struggle particularly when it’s wet around the greens so as we’re swinging through we want to feel that the chest rotates upwards and around towards the target the head actually rotates towards and actually standing up slightly rather than dipping down one of the worst things you can do for your pit shots we’re going to give that a try we are going to rotate the chest and we’re going to be higher finish than where we were at address nice and light weight to the left narrow Stands Tall and around the corner to finish with those pit shots and then moving on to another thing so two things another mistake I see golfers make is always using lob wedge obviously here I’ve got a 54° and what I would say is don’t always rely on 60° of Loft it’s important to be able to try and hit a few different shots around the green it’s important to be able to hit a pit shot with a 50 or a 54 because that’s going to help you with your Technique 60° lots of bouns sometimes can really cover up a poor technique and under pressure or under poor lies that’s when it could really be highlighted when playing around so these things are quite important we’ve obviously got the setup points making sure the stance is narrow making sure the weight stays left throughout the whole wed shop gripping nice light super important and then having a nice arm and body pivot so that you don’t keep your head down and you do rotate through the shot which is really important from there you should start to get some consistent strikes which then means you can find out different distances and what I would recommend is that you have at least two or three carry distances for each wedge so we’re going to have full you obviously want to find out the full distance of every wedge but we do want to find out maybe how far a quarter swing goes pocket to pocket how far a half swing goes hip to hip and how far a 3/4 swing goes shoulder to shoulder again all of those with narrow stance all of those with weight left exactly what was spoken about there and with that you then know your carry distance and that really helps you hit the ball pin High which will help you hit a lot of wedges so much closer so give these simple tips a try these are the most common mistakes I would see in last so make sure you work on those make sure you don’t make those mistakes and you should be a lot better round about the greens for these high soft Landing golf shots if you find this video
