the greens are they’re basically upside down from what we normally play they’re just they’re like a big bowl so it’s uh it’s tough I played last Thursday and it’s a little softer today I think we had a little rain last couple days um but the greens are fast and it kind of it kind of feels like they have full control over the greens whatever they want to do they probably can’t get them too much you know too too too much quicker I think some of these putts would be even harder balls would would golf the green but um I think they can kind of do whatever they want I think the forecast is good and I think by Thursday Friday it’ll start to get a little crispy greens are sneaky fast you know they’re very green in color but they they don’t look quick but they are super quick um and because they’re so uniform in color very difficult to pick out the little crowns you know the little spots where it starts to feed right and go off the green or break towards the middle of the green or whatever whatever it is very hard to pick up the slope um by eye because it’s such a pure surface yeah I mean they are extremely fast if they get any firmer and faster I the greens would I mean they’ be borderline and they already are borderline so uh but yeah as far as practicing I mean the biggest thing is where you leave yourself um on the greens and so you know I today I went with my caddy and we just were really charting to certain pins like we’d rather be here than there and sometimes that almost could mean not that you’re try ever trying to miss a green but you’re airing towards the easier up and down and then I mean you got to play a lot of break on these greens uh um and so when we’re hitting lag putts and even short putts you know you have a 10-footer downhill down grain and you know normally you’re not more than four or five inches outside the cup on nor most screens and here you’re maybe playing 10 to 12 inches just so that you’re you’re not getting below the hole and hav it run away so it’s really a lot of practice and that’s going to be what we’re going to focus on a lot um you know we did today and these next few days to get ready

  1. Good. One week a year I love to see the USGA take a difficult golf course and make it harder. I am hoping this week’s winner is at least +5.

  2. Gary Player rang to say that the ball goes too far, making golf too easy, and that they're making courses too hard, making golf too hard. News at 6.

  3. That Champion Dwarf Bermuda looks green, but it is short and fast. With dry weather Thursday through Sunday and North Carolina temperatures ranging from 88* to 92* F, this is going to be a very interesting U.S. Open. Having been born in Pinehurst, I know my opinion is biased, but Pinehurst No. 2 is a prime venue to host a major.

  4. Hopefully the golf players don't complain and force the USGA to reduce the speed. Literally only time I watch golf is US Open to see the best players excel on the hardest courses.

  5. The USGA is obsessed with protecting par. That manifests itself in greens that are , in my opinion, ridiculous.

    Remember Shinnicock.
