baseball championships it’s game three of day two and this is an elimination game it features the yellow jackets of Randolph Mon and the Panthers of Birmingham Souther I’m Bob Brainard along with my partner Bill broy and our crew here in Ohio if you follow this game or follow this team you know what the story is with the Panthers who take the field their School Birmingham Southern closed its doors yesterday May 31st on the first day that the Panthers took the baseball field here at the College World Series they are continuing to play for a school that no longer exists but they have embraced the role of being able to play for one another and to continue playing and to play for people like that the support staff that they have had during this incredible run so it comes to this an elimination game but never been more well defined if Birmingham Southern loses they go home and they go have don’t have a school to go home to youwhile if they win they play again tomorrow and uh you can’t count them out the way they have played in the playoffs going 19 19 and 5 since the announcement was made on March 26 that the school would cease operations because of the failure to win sufficient support in the Alabama House of representativ so it’s just not another game for a lot of people and we look forward to it in the next three hours film crws Galore National media a documentary crew is been on hand following this these young men they are here at the Ballpark as well Randolph mon the yellow jet will bet first and quey will lead it off against Lon the right-hander we’ll talk more about him in just a moment Schmidt is the DH wowski the third baseman Webb the first baseman in the cleanup spot then Harvey the catcher Meers the left fielder Busch the short stop Brooks the right fielder and Hill the second Beman and you’ve seen LaRon warming up he’s ready to go the fans from Birmingham Southern on their feet they don’t want this run to end Josh lerson is the pitcher Senior from Sandy Spring Georgia 62 on the year he put up impressive numbers 10 and two with a 397 ER this is his 14th appearance all starts he’s throwing a complete Game thrown 79 in the third Innings allowed 75 hits 35 earned runs his walked 25 struck out 83 here’s his first pitch John quey the leadoff man ball one up high opponents have hit 249 against [Applause] [Music] Lon same spot two and0 yeah he’s got to be amped up the crowd certainly is and again with all the hoopla surrounding this team little tough to focus on it’s still a ball game [Applause] [Music] there’s a strike two and one Shan weburg the coach said he gathered his team in the middle of yesterday’s game a 75 loss to salv Regina when they Birmingham had fallen behind 5 nothing and said I don’t think you guys are all here let’s go play our game and they rallied got the T run to the plate in both the eighth and ninth inning with the rally fell short after falling behind seven nothing they were threatening to somehow find another [Applause] [Music] way fouled back John quy prototypical lead off guy for Randol Mak a 274 hitter knocked in 21 runs this year great on B percentage he’s loed 43 times not this time caught looking at strike three LaRon punches him out and crazy go nuts out of the fans on that Birmingham southern side and that’s just the first batter one away for Carter Schmidt the designated hitter [Applause] grand out making 33 and 15 on the year they lost 11 to3 to Wisconsin Whitewater last night jumped out to a three nothing lead and then saw Whitewater score 11 unanswered including three in the bottom of the first they answer the three spot that had Randol making all jacked up lerson quickly ahead of Schmidt oh and two schs a 339 hitter couple homers 41 [Applause] [Music] RB just got a piece here’s the defense for the Panthers behind lerson leits stemman and Banks left to right in the Outfield Austin at third truart at Short Dutton at second and Webster at first and Nelson is the catcher for the righty lerson [Music] 0 and2 to the sophomore DH into the seats foul the umpires for this contest will Bowers is behind the plate calling balls and Strikes Justin Burton at first base Russ lanquist at second and Justin birie is down the line of third and I’ll making one of two teams the Old Dominion Athletic Conference in this field along with lychburg [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] winburg the defending champ is the only unbeaten team after bracket one that’s concluded play today they will rest tomorrow and are assured of playing Monday one and two to Schmidt to right field banks on his horse can’t get there it’ll bounce up and over the wall for a ground rule double and now the Randol making fans making some noise of their own sple see to that he puts a good swing on this one HED the track and guesss a bounce over the wall meaning he’s going to be a two base hit he might have had more than that right fielder gives it a real go but apparently Banks can’t get to it and Schmid’s in scoring position with one out here in the first 320 down each line in this ballpark 400 to deep center field and now wowski the third [Applause] [Music] baseman ripped it into the fishnet behind home plate Jack wosi the thunder in this lineup 382 hitter leads CL second on the CL and RBI with 41 he’s hit this one home run however around the eyelids of wowski one and one back one for four against Whitewater yesterday scored a [Applause] run lerson couple Peaks at the runner at second it’s a bouncing ball to Short through it fields and fires to get the out at first two away M advances to third on the slow Hopper the play was in front of him so he shrewdly went to third so 90 ft away with two out [Applause] now it’ll bring up miles web the first baseman [Music] miles had a 21 game hitting streak earlier this season that was two away from the program record he’s down strike one [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] here down2 th with a little bit of giddy up on that fast ball popping that mitt place will erupt if he does that again another bouncer to tr it at Short makes the play again side retired nothing AC Ross for Rand off M Mason Mak in the top half of the first inning Panthers swing the sticks when we [Applause] return Drew Ramos is the right-hander the starting pitcher for Randolph Mak he will face a lineup That features stemman the center fielder Dutton the second baseman Webster the the first baseman in Hancock the designated hitter for the Panthers in the cleanup spot then Banks the right fielder leads the left fielder true at the short stop Nelson The Catcher And Austin the third baseman to Ramos gets the ball for the yellow jackets on the year Ramos 8-2 with a 464 ra this is his 17th start or and his 17th appearance in 66 Innings he’s still out 57 hits and 34 earned runs he’s walked 44 struck out 67 opponents have hit 234 against his right-hander R is a senior from Williamsburg [Applause] Virginia Ramos completes his warm-up tosses ready to go and stean ready to step in K jackets didn’t get much from their starter last night bear Bowers only retired four hit and allowed nine runs only one earn but nonetheless it was a tough outing for [Applause] Bowers El I stadman strike one wowski the third baseman is a few steps in creeping in on the infield grass down the line of third [Applause] Ramos you see the big overhand tosser that he is comes right over the top with a violent delivery there’s wowski positioned to pounce on something on the [Music] [Applause] infield it stays on the infield but goes to Hill at second one down here’s the defense for the yellow jackets it’s Meyers in left quy in Center Brooks in right wowski at third Bush at Short Hill at second Webb at first and Harvey’s the catcher for the righty Ramos Gras has been around he had 13 appearances all starts a year ago as a junior went six and two with a 5.43 earned run average and now Andrew Dutton The Hitter good siiz kid at 63 [Music] in there for a strike one and one Dutton went one for five yesterday drove in a couple runs on the year dutton’s are leading hitter average wise at 340 he’s hit seven homers and driven in 41 runs takes there two and one Webster will be next [Applause] [Music] to short Bush plays The Hop makes the throw gets the out Birmingham Southern first base coach said his foot was off the bag and I think we’re going to get a [Applause] review Bush backed up on the ball remember when they used to tell you Youth Clinics play the ball don’t let the ball play you well Bush let the ball play him and he took the took the high Hop and had a rush his throw which according to First Pace coach pulled web off the bag the umpires disagree here’s the play where’s the where’s the toe well that is the question the Umpire is conferring they have deci whether they’re going to review yet or not yeah look at the foot move yeah the toes not on the bag you can Challen each coach has two challenges available to have a replay review so they’re going to huddle up before Birmingham Southern has to make a decision on if they want to burn a challenge now or [Music] not I don’t understand why this caucus is taking so [Music] [Applause] long cuz it always does [Applause] I mean either you’re going to review it or you’re not going to review it well according to PL umpire the foot was off the bag but the guy closest to the play said he was out so we might see a review from Ray hendrik and Rand Mak yeah so now instead of the Panthers saying review it and look at it which they didn’t have to the umpires made the call and decision on their own now Randol mon may have to decide do we want to burn a challenge and they do they do and I think they’re going to lose this challenge based on what we saw again each coach gets two challenges in the first seven Innings if you lose the challenge it’s gone if you win it you get to keep [Music] it but almost out of principle I mean hendrik hasn’t seen what we have so almost out of principle you got to say the guy who was closest to the play called him out in the home Point umpire at least he’s the guy that signaled to the world after the Umpire meeting that the runner was safe so I’m saying Hedrick is saying what’s the deal Justin Burton is the first base umpire over there who made the call so again Birmingham Southern they didn’t challenge the call it was the umpires huddling up up to ask for help among themselves turn the call over and then they turned it over to Randol make and said do you want to challenge that call and that’s what they’re doing now and they’re looking at this so the call on the field is he’s out is there conclusive evidence to change the call and Russ lanquist the second base umpire BLS us from that angle can see the the base coach in the Birmingham bench exploding saying he was safe but you’ll see that all the time that the coach will beg for a safe call on bang bang plays so now what they’re looking at is because the umpires switched it to safe now are they switching it back that is a good point that’s that’s what they’re looking at because it’s a randoff Mak challenge they want to get this out they thought they had it it got taken away can they get it back again good point and everyone talking with everyone else upstairs the crew chief and the replay officials they confer with the men in blue down below so if he’s out there’s two out nobody on here in the bottom of the first if he’s safe Birmingham Southern has their first base runner with one out and their three- hole hitter Jackson Webster coming to the play everyone talking about candlesticks [Applause] and he is R sa so the yellow jackets lose their first challenge have one remaining and I think Bush picks up an [Applause] airr allthough the scoreboard as he got ahead yeah they must have rolled it ahead anyway Webster at The Plight with dunon on [Applause] [Music] First missing there one and0 Ramos had to wait that out thre a couple warm-up tosses waiting for a decision to be [Applause] made Birmingham has to steal a lot of Base 41 and 47 [Applause] games duton at first is four for porn Sten base attempts this [Music] year a strike ruling is an error it should be yeah it is error on Randolph Mak so Dutton went from being out to safe and then confirmed to be safe Webster sitting 1-1 with one away two and [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] one launch to left Center up over out my goodness Jackson Weber Webster lebster with the longest home run we’ve seen thus far in the tournament a big bomb gives Birmingham Southern El his 14th home run of the year that’s a team high and there was no doubt about that one tagged it and this place erupts Webster barrels and clocks it to the Classic Auto Group sign in left Center extends his arms and gets all of it two nothing Birmingham Southern in front first here’s Ian Hancock the designated hitter [Applause] [Music] one and one Han’s been an all conference player the last three years 327 this year 10 homers 52 RB lifts this one center field quey still back pading and wind was blowing that all over the place two away wind blowing out the left certainly might have given Webster a little help but he didn’t need it that was a bomb so two away and here’s Charlie Banks the right [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] fielder Charlie’s a freshman he was named the newcomer of the year in the [Applause] conference thans was also a second Team all conference pick along with [Applause] [Music] Dutton banks with 374 hitter five homers 33 knocked in [Applause] he goes to left Center and that ball is gone hit the same sign a bank shot for banks and it’s three to nothing well Birmingham Southern acts like they don’t want to go home two bombs here in the first inning and I mean bombs the longest balls we’ve seen hit in the first two days of the tournament first to two-run shot by Jackson Webster now Charlie Banks for the sixth home run of the [Applause] year that’s a freshman folks and that’s a long way to hit a baseball here’s Forest the left [Applause] [Music] [Applause] fielder Ramos trying to settle down it’s only the first [Applause] [Music] inning out of play Romas was treated harshly last week in game two of the three-game super region Regal Series against Adrien and five in the third Innings allowed three hits and two runs and up picking a loss in that [Music] game squeezed by Harvey the catcher two and two leits didn’t start yesterday’s game he pinch hit and walked against salv Regina [Music] [Applause] bouncing ball a second Hill gets there ining over but a pair of home runs what a great start for Birmingham Southern in their quest to keep playing baseball three nothing after one [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Applause] an electric atmosphere for the fans of Birmingham Southern and they got even more to cheer about in that first inning a pair of home runs stake their team to a three- nothing lead here as we head to the second Harvey the catcher leads it off for randoff Mak you see on our graphic there this is an elimination game you are playing to survive and play another day play another game on Sunday [Applause] [Music] and everyone is aware of the [Applause] circumstances with this Panthers Squad it’ll be a long road for them to have the ultimate storybook finish why not it’s going of been their Mantra the whole way during this ride play for the other guy play like you have nothing to lose as lerson ties up Harvey for his second strikeout of the day one away brings up Matt Meyers the left [Applause] fielder meron’s got to have a little confidence now pitching with the lead the field side and Into the Blue [Applause] seats nerson was a allc conference selection a year ago as well appeared in 14 games for the [Music] paner finished 8-2 with a 2 of 38 earned run average last year so he’s a proven commodity proven glovan as as well catlike reflexes for out number two and retires Myers who had droven all three runs for Randol making yesterday this ball was smoke but he sticks his glove out and I got to say might have been a little liid I [Applause] found two away for Grayson Busch the short stop [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] F off to the right [Applause] [Music] [Applause] side some tossing going on in the randoff making Bullpen yeah they had somebody up when the first inning ended the pitching coach just went down to see uh or at least tell him what’s going to happen next inning is the activity now stop o and two to [Applause] Bush Lon brings it one and two [Applause] [Music] [Applause] fights that one off foul towards his own Dugout p a 303 hitter three homers 33 runs batted in on the Year got on base five times against Adrien in the cing game of the Super Regional last weekend he’s a walk drawing machine over a hundred in his career with lerson covering had some bumper cars over there with Webster and Dutton but lerson picks up his teammates to retire the side middle of two three here’s how this game started bottom of the first dingdong time two-run shot for Webster that hit that sign and left center field and then two batters later his teammate Banks says I can hit that sign Too solo shot that’s some serious Lumber right there and Birmingham Southern ideal start 3 nothing it chases the starter Ramos in comes number 15 that’s J uh William wyan I beg your part William wyan the sophomore Bill he is a sophomore out of Virginia Beach Virginia William 2 and two on the air with a 370 ra this is his 18th appearance all out of the bullpen in 24 to third Innings wans allowed 24 hits ten ear in runs he’s walked 12 struck out 27 opponents have hit 258 against W and for the second stray day Randolph mon sees their starters rocked and all you got to do look in the uh bracket one winburg got a complete game yesterday eight and2 third inning performance from their starter today they’re in the loone unbeaten Randol M got a long way to go in this one but they saw their starter give up nine runs yesterday and Ramos gives up three in the first inning today including those two big bombs you saw so Wan’s first pitch is in there for a strike to tie TR [Applause] it and an elimination game a coach has got to have a short leash and a quick hook and you saw Ray Hendricks not going to mess around he gets W in there quickly in relief of [Applause] Ramos o and2 to the short stop Nelson will be next and then Austin 789 hitters launched out of play on the right side grandal making here for the second time they finished in third place in the tournament in 2018 he gets through it so Wan good work to start his outing a strike out here to start the second frame and Shane Nelson the catcher steps in Catcher number Shane Nelson [Music] [Applause] slicer out of [Applause] [Music] play Nelson’s hit to 32 Homer 23 [Applause] RBIs at third wowski knocked it down stayed with the to play and no off the bag it pulled web we’ve seen that before this time no question should be another [Applause] error so a man aboard with one [Applause] away knocked it down had time and the throw was way off the mark [Music] and now here’s Austin the third baseman Mitch the number nine hitter ball one Austin Austin’s hit 262 this is only his 19th start of the year as with two extra base [Applause] hits Austin drove in 10 runs in limited [Applause] action little late on that swing tried to reach out over the plate and make contact one and two [Applause] w a toss [Applause] over Nelson Has Not stolen a base this [Applause] [Music] [Applause] year called tip Harvey hung on and it’s a strike out for Wan his second and two away here in the second and back to the top of the order in Eli Stedman so many stories within this overall story unfolding for this Birmingham Southern baseball team and one of them that is truly remarkable is that on the day of the Super Regional Championship Game nine players got what they thought was food poisoning and it was actually a neuro virus that was still lingering in some of the players when they got to Ohio knocked down by web nice play by the first baseman to retire the side so no matter the obstacle though Birmingham Southern guys have been stepping up they leaded 3 nothing after [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] two top of three Panthers three yellow jackets nothing it will be Brooks the right fielder then Hill the second baseman and then back to the top of the order against the righty lerson lon’s retired five in a row after the Carter Schmid double one out in the first Eli Brooks trying to start something here in the third inning for the [Applause] [Music] jackets big cut by number 27 Brooks came in the game late yesterday failed to get a hit in his low on plate appearance [Applause] sophomore outfielder o and one even up at one and one guys at 295 hitter a homer in 13 RB and this is 23rd start of the Season LaRon brings it Nelson framed it but it’s two and one [Applause] [Music] [Applause] Grand Ming out of Ashlin Virginia and there’s a strike put the inside to make it two and two mentioned this yesterday the yellow jackets the only division 3 program to win NCAA playoff games in football men’s basketball and baseball this Academic Year how about that little flare but on the Move Dutton gets there to make the catch one away the batter will be [Applause] Hill check out the shoes on hill and his teammates Tak another look at the little flare that’s caught the kicks as the kids call it those were donated to the team when they got here and they came Curtis of the 2018 Randolph Mak team who raised money to support their guys in 2024 2018 team was the last team of yellow jackets to make it to the baseball championships a little bonding moment there shoes are pretty sharp they are they haven’t brought a lot of Lu thus far but they look good [Applause] [Music] Chopper Third Base side Austin is right there and the throw is as well two down lerson retired eight of the nine hitters first time through now back to quy with two away [Music] first pitch jumping on it stemman will get there and glove it side retired second clean inning in a row for lerson and Birmingham Southern who leads it plus three [Music] [Music] see if the Panthers can pad their three run lead here in the bottom half of inning number three they will send up Dutton Webster and [Applause] [Music] Hancock wyan first pitch is in the dirt Wan threw in two of the three games against Adrien on Friday in game one he allow to hit in the third inning of work on Saturday right field caught at the wall on the Run Brooks didn’t Panic just backpedal and got to the spot to make the catch got barreled that one up though for Brooks to make a nice [Applause] play knew where the wall was in the warning track it look easy one away here’s Webster had the two-run shot in the first and you remember it was Dutton who had that play at first prior to Webster at [Music] bat eventually ruled safe on the error which made it a two-run home run when Webster connected Captain Wan’s performance against Adrian on Friday he came back to throw two scores hittings on Saturday about two hits [Applause] so he appeared in two of the three Super Regional games trying to hold Birmingham Southern at three runs here way tosses a strike there two and two Webster led the Southern Southern Athletic Association in home runs 11 in the regular season 13 total and then he just tacked on one more as you saw in the first swing in a Miss there wyan fooled him his third punch out since coming out in the second inning two [Applause] away it’s the DH now Ian [Applause] [Music] [Applause] Hancock around the kneecaps that time one [Applause] and0 that one on the outside part of the play two and0 nobody on base [Applause] wyan would love nothing more than a clean inning [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] but Hancock threatening to draw the free pass three [Applause] and0 green [Music] light danaka veteran hitter I think HRI trust him to make the good decision and this is a three-time All Conference [Applause] performer 3-1 this one in play and web can’t glove it goes through the wickets as they say and that’s going to be the third error committed by Randolph Mak Rand off Min just as look out of sorts here in this whole tournament they committed six errors in two games have allowed four home runs and after scoring three in the top of the first yesterday they have just come [Applause] unraveled web didn’t even have to move and then make him pay Banks to the wall Hancock sent home throw is not in time it’s four to nothing Banks kept it in the yard this time but same result drives in a run and the error prior costly bites the yellow jackets again a strong relay throw by Hill to make this play close to the plate and Bank splits the outfielders for his second extra base hit in the first three Innings of this [Applause] game Randol making self inflicted should have been out of the inning should have stayed 3 nothing it’s 4 nothing now here’s leits with banks out at second base [Applause] why in the 2- tosses a strike [Music] [Applause] but misses there three and [Music] [Applause] [Music] one got the strike and runs the full on [Applause] [Music] [Applause] leits Wan needs a big pitch needs an out anywhere got in in the hands Elites there excuse me swing [Applause] [Music] Wan back to work 3-2 count on Forest leits and it’s Ball Four inning started with two easy outs a Fly ball and a strikeout then the error compounded by the RBI double and now a walk and a walk out to the mound to have a discussion with everybody on the bullpen is now started up it’s Cole mallerie 28 I think is throwing in the bullpen for Randolph mon this may be a visit to give Cole some time again Wan deserves a better fate I mean as you said the ball is hit right at the first baseman which could have been an easy third out but it wasn’t and the inning continues home played umpire will Bow’s going to break up the [Applause] party Ty Truitt will be the hitter [Applause] [Music] he me Conor mcau throwing down it’s tucked in out of our view but I think it’s 26 that’s throwing for the yellow jackets you’re right swinging a Miss by Tai o and one [Music] [Applause] and another [Applause] one Wan got it done but so did Birmingham Southern they make the e at first hurt drop at another run and after three Panthers lead is now four to nothing [Applause] [Music] top half of inning number four Randolph Mak down a four spot here they’ll send up Schmidt who has the lone hit so far for the yellow jackets then wowski and web [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] strike one to Carter [Applause] Schmidt you’ve seen that strike one a lot from Lon he’s gone right after guys pitcher’s best [Applause] friend in the dirt that time one and one [Applause] [Music] muscles it off of Len and then Dutton was trying to help out with the pinball action but couldn’t find the handle so Schmid’s board [Music] [Applause] again don’t ruing yet I whether that’s a hit or and [Applause] [Music] there Zack rowski will step in hoping that’s a [Applause] [Music] [Applause] start tries to go to right field long run and into that Bullpen area [Applause] they give uh SMI credit for a [Applause] hit laser [Music] beam And1 to wowski grounded out to short in his first Deb in the first Zach goes there again out at second and at first two away Panthers flash some leather back lerson nice 643 double play good turn by Dunton Tru it certainly game a nice feed so the base is clear two down for Miles web that one hit the [Applause] [Music] [Applause] mascot want to know to Webb the senior first [Music] [Applause] baseman p a strike one and one pop the glove again [Music] web would certainly like to do something in the Redemption Department here after that error led to another run for Birmingham Southern thought about it there two and [Music] [Applause] one DP had a streak snapped last night he didn’t reached Pace safely in the past 16 games until last night earlier in the season he had a 21 game hitting [Applause] streak battling here against lerson who’s been awfully good to start this outing two away in the fourth [Music] [Applause] he just poured strikes in there and challenge Guys fan a [Applause] pair and that’ll help that’s his seven out recorded on the ground in the first four Innings side retired throw a double play in there as well and the 4 nothing lead remains intact for the Panthers new pitcher coming in the third of the evening for the yellow jackets it’s the left-hander Conor mccaulay Conor sophomore out of Haymarket Virginia and on the year call he’s had a decent year 2-0 at the 2117 erra this his 20th appearance started one game otherwise he’s been a bullpen guy 29 Innings pitched Conor’s about 27 hits seven earn runs he’s walked 15 struck out 26 and opponents are hitting 252 against his 59 175lb left-hander his Squad down four to nothing here bottom of the fourth inning he used three pitchers last night in excuse me they used three in in the 11 to3 loss Cole Stam and then Gavin Tomlin came in a relief of bear Bowers [Music] now wyan and now mcau coming in relief of Drew Ramos that’s is Shane Nelson 0 and one count is even Austin will be next and then top of the order Eli [Applause] [Music] Stedman dropped off the table nice pitch from mcau [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] two and two now [Applause] fights that one off out of [Applause] play Birmingham Southern they their fans they were making a racket before the first pitch was thrown that first inning they had a lot to cheer for it they haven’t run out of gas yet still going strong rally [Applause] banana why not whatever Mojo’s working you keep it [Music] going 2 two that one to short Bush will get it and make the play nicely done had to Goble it and then make sure he found the handle earlier today and this is the third of four games today in bracket one indicot survived in an elimination game by sending Pomona Pitzer back to California they beat him 7 to six in a battle of unbeaten teams or from yesterday’s winners I guess more accurately Lynchberg scored a 6-2 victory over Miser cordio so tomorrow at 11 o’clock in an elimination game Miser cord will play indicot while Lynchberg Russ on the Sabbath are we resting in this no we’re here okay we got two games all right just checking here’s Mitch Austin third baseman struck out his first time up in the second [Applause] [Music] inning swung through it 0 and two later tonight in a battle of teams that both won yesterday ew Whitewater Wisconsin Whitewater will play salv Regina that game will start 50 minutes after the conclusion of this [Music] Oney gets Austin his first k out of the bullpen two away here in the fourth and the winner of that game later tonight will’ll rest on the Sabbath as well we don’t we definitely don’t two away for stman nothing in two trips so far for Eli [Applause] [Music] [Applause] strike Callie hard [Applause] thrower rowski reading the book on stemman in on the infield grass from the third base side two and [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Applause] one cut through it evens the count at two and two [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] and down on strikes good job by mcau out of the pen clean inning two of the three he faces he whips and after four scoreboard stays 4 nothing Birmingham Southern in front official SE support of NCA championships their contributions help inhance the educational and athletic experiences of nearly half a million NCAA student athletes [Music] with its 50th Anniversary division 3 is celebrating the P honoring the president and looking toward the future follow the yearlong Celebration by visiting NCAA division 3 on x formerly Twitter Instagram and Facebook and join the conversation by using hash [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] CH top of five here in East Lake Ohio 20 minutes east of downtown Cleveland and strike to Chaz Harvey Randolph making catcher Meyers will be next and then [Applause] Bush Turner Schmidt has both the hits for Randol Megan those are the only base runners and Schmid was erased on a double play last inning so Randol M hasn’t made much noise offensively one and one to Harvey [Music] one and two we’ve had this beautiful day this Sunshine throughout the day this time of day we start to bring up the Shadows not yet but creeping to the home PL area that of course means for hitters the ball is tough to pick up when the pitcher is in sunshine and the batter’s box is in Shadow it also means the fielders on the right side of the infield and in the Outfield are going to have a heck of a Time on f ball yeah bring your Shades kids count goes full Harvey still in the sunshine in the Batters box trying to get something started here in the top of the FIP [Music] bounc it to third Austin waits for it and then fires it for oute number one one away for Myers the left [Applause] fielder we by the end of this inning when we get to the sixth is when you’ll see most of the home plate area in the shadow and then what bill was talking about that balls coming from the bright light into the shadow it’s almost like it disappears if you’re a hitter [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] Myers driven in the only three runs of this tournament forand Mak punch foul again a bases clearing double in the first inning yesterday and an 113 loss the Whitewater [Applause] one and two here against [Applause] lerson another one into the seats [Applause] defensive swing to be [Music] sure Lon must have some nasty movement and certainly a Sinkler working and there’s eight ground ball outs of the 13s recorded they’ve only hit one ball out of the [Music] infield this one on the infield again in another ground ball out this is a recording two [Applause] down and the short stop Bush will step in and since you’re an expert on shoewear it appears to me lon’s shoes are very similar to the Randol bacon kicks uh would you agree agreed agreed doubtful he got them from yeah I did the Randolph making Lums from 2018 but yeah goes with the uniform goes with the look both teams with the black and gold school colors and since you’re always my expert on uniforms I I like both these clubs looks [Applause] agreed it looks like the Pittsburgh Pirates playing each other in like inter inter scrimmage inter Squad scrimmage something like that yeah peram Southern’s kind of got that cream thing going and and then Randolph Mak this one charged by Bush that’s going to be in the Gap and fallen for a base hit he’s thinking two and he’ll get there two out double for Bush and see if it leads to something down a four spot here in the top of the fifth bush has been a hot hitter we told you he got on base five times in the clinching game of the Super Regional had two hits yesterday and has a two out double here in the fifth and now it’s Eli Brooks the right fielder strike [Applause] [Music] one bush has only been retired three times in the last three games in the postseason [Music] ooh [Applause] close Nelson struck the pose tried to get the call for his pitcher one and one one low two and [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] one Brooks slice it a right and bounces past Banks [Applause] Brooks all the way to [Applause] third got the job done got the yellow jackets on the board it’s four to [Applause] one well hit ball by Brooks to be sure when it got by the right fielder Banks he was Off to the Races made sure Bush was going to score from second Brooks was surprised when he got to second that he was being encouraged to come to third by the coach but Banks had trouble finding that ball after his dive was unsuccessful catching it and now Jordan [Applause] Hill opportunity here with two away to make go from 4 to one to 4-2 first triple of the year for Eli Brooks is 14th ARB [Applause] [Music] big run available 90 ft away and Hill going to get it done it carams off of Tru it we got a 4-2 game just like that looked like Lon was cruising and Randol Mak shows some wife with a two-out rally [Music] [Applause] good effort by truet tried to snag it he’s not going to be able to throw him out even if he came up with that ball though you can see in the replay there Hill knew it there’s nobody in the bullpen but we’re getting a mound visit anyway trying to settle lerson down as this Uprising happened pretty quickly but there’s still not even any stirring in the Birmingham Southern Bullpen so the jackets they’ve now out hit the Panthers 5 to three and Trail by just [Applause] [Music] two back to the top of the order and quy the center fielder Owen oh for two tonight is [Applause] quy takes a ball High [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] outside and now it’s the Yellow Jacket fans who are trying to be disruptive forces in the stands trying to Rattle Lon [Music] here a strike two and one that’s Hill the runner at [Applause] [Music] [Music] first bash to right Banks gets there side retired but Randolph mon making things happen here in the top half of the fifth it’s now 4 [Applause] to2 first pitch to Dutton jumps on it and quy gets there to make the catch noisy first out here in the bottom half of the first fifth for Birmingham Southern yeah that certainly barreled up that first pitch but well positioned quey made the grab one quick out for Birmingham Southern and you know mcau and his jacket’s teammates would love a shutdown inning here there’s Webster had the two-run dingdong in the first certainly the momentum has swung for the first time this afternoon now early evening two and0 to Jackson Webster and the clouds have come in meaning that all that talk we made of Shadows is now academic negated yeah big buzz kill three and [Applause] [Music] 0 and a four pitch walk that is M call he wanted nope Webster says I’ll take it he’s a board with one away and Ian Hancock the designated hitter remember Hancock reached on that crucial error in the third should have been the third out and the very next batter Banks made it hurt with an RBI double see what Hancock can do here the end of the [Applause] [Music] bat o And1 to the senior DH nice pitch there o and two [Applause] Callie thirdd pitcher to work for Randolph Mak stays alive do Hancock defensive swing but as you say he’ll get the swing again after getting a piece of it [Music] [Applause] [Music] 02 on the way waste pitch that time tried to get him to chase it neither Bullpen is [Music] [Applause] busy comebacker out at second and at first for the double play jacket say thank you very much we needed it and we go to the sixth inning the game is 4-2 Birmingham Southern in [Applause] front welcome back to Classic Auto Park go to the sixth inning of this game three a day two with this division three baseball championships brand makan is crep within two runs and they’ll send up some of their Big Boppers Carter Schmidt Zack wosi and Miles web here in the sixth against Josh lerson who was cruising till two outs last inning when the yellow jackets erupted for three straight hits and scored two runs [Music] ball one to Schmid who doubled in the first had an infield hit in the in the [Applause] [Music] [Applause] fourth SM SMI laces this one to right that’ll fall in front of banks to lead off man on for the first time today for the yellow jackets again we talked about could feel the momentum shift it continues after the leadoff single by Schmid’s third hit of the day now we Nasi hit into a double play in the fourth grounded to short in the [Music] first first pitch is popped up out of play bernoski the Leaning hitter for these Yellow Jackets a 382 hitter [Music] he’s one for six in the tournament second on the club in RBI with [Music] 41 Schmid draws a throw he’s won for two in stolen base attempts this year as a team Randol makan has stolen 83 bases in 48 games so they run but not as aggressively as other teams do one and one crowd definitely into this [Applause] [Music] game up here miles web on Deck there goes the runner it’s a hit and run goes out the right to Banks is going to be a play first and throw is late the banks retires wosi on the line drive Schmidt gets back to First this is a hit and run and bernoski does his job to hit it to the right side but again he hit it well but Banks was positioned well and made the play now web who’s grounded out twice [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] today web goes the other way as well Banks comes in has this one measured on to make this a much easier play for the second [Applause] out so Chaz Harvey digs in as the tying run at the plate he too is 0 for two against lerson struck out in the second one of only two strikeout victims Harvey bounced to Third and the [Applause] fifth ball one [Applause] missed on the corner it’s now 2 so a hitters count for Harvey who weeds this team in RBI with 48 and the home runs with 12 he is the Ty run at the [Applause] plate but he just missed that one and skies went High into the Ohio night shortstop truit calls and makes the inning ending catch so Randall Mak gets the lead off man on but don’t score we go to the bottom of the sixth it’s 4-2 Birmingham [Applause] Southern at this time we prly request that any current or former members of our forces please stand to be [Applause] recognized [Music] number bottom six and Birmingham Southern survives Randolph mon from making another charge on the scoreboard Charlie Banks jumped in that first pitch and he hit it literally out of the ballpark back Beyond see that Brown building back there that’s where the baseball landed it was foul of course [Music] but this one in play quy gets there and makes the catch for out number one and now leits the left fielder boy after the Yow jackets got those two runs in the fifth inning and then got the leadoff man aboard you thought here they come with Birmingham Southern a good job to quiet things after that we got a pinch hitter here for the Panthers this is going to be Jacob Zito the senior outfielder hitting in Le spot no doubt will stay out there on left [Music] field takes ball [Applause] one third base side it gets through for base hit pinch hitter pays off as zitto [Applause] reaches just going back to work to try to get that lead a little more cushiony if that’s such a [Music] [Applause] [Music] word now TR at the short [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] stop nothing in two trips for Tai trit struck out both [Music] [Music] times toss to [Applause] [Music] [Applause] First drew it waiting for the 1 upstairs but strike call delayed call by Will Bowers evens the town at one [Applause] [Music] [Applause] one that one out of the zone two and one [Applause] L by wowski out at second not in time at first but a terrific play by the yellow jackets third baseman field the hot smash get up and get the force out at second two away catcher number [Applause] n tried to turn it that would have been the ultimate for the jackets but they’ll settle for the out second one of the inning and now Nelson the [Music] [Applause] catcher Shane is 0 for two reached on an error in the second [Music] [Applause] [Music] Runner goes throw down is going to be wide of the mark So Tru it swipes the [Applause] bag with two outs that could be key if Nelson can come through with a base [Applause] hit great jump had a big lead and made it in there even if the throw Is On Target true it gets in there safely but mcau and the jacket going to get out of this side retired no damage done seven inning here we come Birmingham Southern still leading it by a 4-2 count [Applause] excuse me yeah the third baseman super [Music] [Applause] play what had it I told Sheamus I’m like you better [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] go Josh lerson back on the bump here for Birmingham [Music] Southern trying to preserve that 4-2 lead in the top of the seventh inning here we go Randolph [Applause] mon sending up Meers to start things off then Bush and [Applause] Brooks big cut wanted to make it four to three on one swing [Applause] [Music] [Applause] check the swing [Applause] [Music] [Applause] there two and one to the jackets left fielder and and it got him on the foot Myers is fired [Applause] up not too many times to see somebody get hit by a pitch and then turn to The Dugout and say let’s go but he knows the importance of getting on base second inning in a row they’ve had the lead off man on jackets didn’t do anything with it last inning he didn’t go beyond first base but getting late earlier so I think that’s why Myers is trying to Jack his teammates up here’s Bush swings at the high heat Grayson’s been a hot hitter had a double and scored in the fifth grounded out in the [Applause] second but he’s three for six in the tournament after getting on all five times against Adrian in the Super Regional Runner goes Throw Down by Nelson is got in time oh Nelson that was a strong throw he made it closer than it looked like it might be initially and Bush missed the bunt so now it’s up to Myers to steal the [Applause] base and it was a bang bang play he just held the [Applause] bag almost overs slit it but kept the oven mitt on second base in scoring position here with nobody out fifth stolen base of the year for [Applause] Myers there’s action in the Birmingham Southern [Music] Bullpen o and2 to [Applause] [Music] bush look out hit him oh it did hit him on the arm lerson has hit a pair of yellow jackets and the tying runs are now aboard here in the top of the seven his control has been Flawless today and walked anybody but as you say last two [Applause] hitters and now Dutton and Austin both come in to talk to the veteran lerson and here comes a a mound visit and this may be this may be the end for lerson saw the bullpen they were looking on and then they got the signal stop watching start throwing number three and number 36 are warming for the Panthers 36 is Hansen mcau three is Jacob Fields the right-hander a freshman conbo over on the hill LaRon stays in for the moment and the batter will be Brooks Eli had that runs scoring triple back in the fifth inning and I think he’s going to be asked to bunt here that’s the tying run at first Brooks is sacrificed successfully once this season Austin in on the grass at third anticipating a bun as [Applause] well squares rolls it foul Webster charging from [Applause] first it’s an elimination game with the backdrop that Birmingham Southern the last vestage of their school competing a day after the school [Music] [Applause] closed one and one to [Applause] Eli Lon in a jam trying to wiggle out of it somehow someway squares bunt goes straight up caught by Nelson huge out there one [Music] away you saw Brooks slam the bat down frustrated that he couldn’t get that ball down yeah you got to execute now here’s Jordan Hill in there for a strike from Lon he’ll drove in his 11th run of the year with an infield single in the fifth cut the Marchin into two it’s still there he’s a 247 [Applause] hitter peak of the runners they go from second throw to third is not in time that’s Meyers swiping third so he stolen backto back bases and he better make it cuz when you’re down two runs in the seventh inning and in scoring position I don’t know how much good it does to get you to third base if you got a chance to get thrown out but he’s safe and that’s all that matters if you’re a yellow jackets fan Myers starred all this of course with that hit by a pitch and then rra walked down to [Music] first he was hoping something like this would happen first and third with one away 02 pitch coming to Jordan Hill and it’s strike three called wow what a big pitch by LaRon two away top of the order and quey now trying not to waste this opportunity for Randolph mon I got to think Grayson bush is going to try to steal second he’s the leading stolen base or second in the team in is in stolen bases he’s going to do it against the new pitcher Lon disappointed he doesn’t try to get out of this Jam that he [Applause] created but we will have a new pitcher for the Panthers tell you all about when we return here in Ohio [Music] [Applause] [Applause] so in relief for Birmingham Southern they go with the right-hander Hansen mowen 62 senior from Indian Springs Alabama on the year he’s 40 with the 326 earned run average his eighth appearance he’s thrown three complete games as a starter in 19 in the third Innings or excuse me he started three games I apologize he has not throwing a complete Game he’s got one save however and in 19 and third Innings Macwan has allowed 16 hits seven earned runs he’s walked nine struck out 25 opponents have hit 213 against his 62 180 pounder Josh Lon got a nice round of applause when he went into the home team dugout from the fans behind it gave him a good effort but some issues here two hit batsman he’s sure as heck wanted to redeem himself but he’ll turn the ball over to maau to do that for him with two outs away and two on in the seventh Lon allows six hits and six and two3 he walked two or he walked three Gooding Hill the final batter he faced didn’t walk anybody but he hit the two that bab Ed to and that put him in the jam which caused him to have to leave the game they’re aboard at first and third they represent the tying runs John quey will try to bring them [Applause] in squeezed by Nelson got to have catl light awareness behind home plate now Bush dancing around down at first base and the Speedy Meyers is over at third we see one for seven in the tournament 0 for three [Applause] today strike one makes it one and one [Applause] [Music] [Applause] boy that was a pretty good [Applause] pitch I agree Nelson tried to help us pitch her out but it’s two and [Applause] one and if you’re going to run I think bush is going to run here on this 2-1 pitch he’s dancing he stays it’s in there for a strike two and two there’s Myers over at third I would think bush is definitely going here takes his lead there he goes wrapped foul carer SMI the on Deck hitter is three for three today he’d love a [Music] swing and Birmingham Southern want they want to cease operations right here two and two to quey Runner goes again and it’s a base hit to right a run in to make it four to three put him at the corner still as Randolph mon creeps within one py with a clutch two out hit drives in his 22nd run of the year and here’s [Applause] Schmidt Man four for seven in the tournament [Music] a 339 hitter on the [Applause] [Music] [Applause] year dangerous hitter one and0 to [Applause] [Music] [Applause] Schmidt second on the T in RBI with [Music] [Applause] 41 Carter little roller off the end of the bat true it no play game is tied mitches put the ball in play didn’t hit it hard but TR it wisely didn’t make the throw as he had no play get when it gets past the mound Tru makes a veteran play and holds the ball as he watches the tying Run come in from third [Music] 44 our score wowski with the go-ahead run now out at second base if he can produce strike one to Zack joski the leading hitter on this club average wise at 382 he’s driven in 41 [Applause] runs tied for second on the club with Schmid right field long run Banks and it’s [Music] [Applause] foul one Retreats back the first and second Cowen trying to find a way rasi just one for seven in the tournament like like quy was stairs doesn’t go after it two and two with two aboard and two down [Music] [Applause] it’s a short TR it side retired at one time Randolph maken was done four to nothing in this game but two in the fifth and two more here in the seventh and we are tied at the seventh inning stretch here at the Ballpark elimination game who wants it Randolph Mak for Birmingham Southern four new pitcher for the yellow jackets it is the righty Jacob Lawler Waller on the year one and0 with a 563 erra this is his 20th appearance all in relief Waller on the year has thrown 16 Innings allowed 17 Hits 10 ear runs walk 10 struck out 14 opponents have hit 266 against Lawler and credit the bullpen they’ve had a pretty good job after Drew Ramos gave up three runs in the first inning including two home runs but William W Conor mccaulay have uh pretty much stopped the bleeding and given his team a chance to come back so we start all over again tied at four [Applause] Mitch Austin will lead it off then top of the order Austin Austin nothing for two with a pair of KS in those [Applause] trips swings at the first offering from Lawler [Music] [Applause] belted and look out down in that yellow jackets Bullpen almost took out one of the [Applause] catchers Jacob wallers 510 185 PBS a senior from Broad Run Virginia he’s ahead of Mitch Austin 0 and2 this one near the line and left Meyers gets to the spot one away top of the order Eli stemman The [Applause] Hitter stman today has been retired three times [Applause] Waller pitched in both Saturday’s Super Regional games against Adrien pitched a third of an inning in the loss in game two pitched to the inning in a third in the game CL or the punching win that punched their ticket here didn’t allow a hit or run in either of [Applause] appearance Two no to Stedman in fact laer hasn’t allowed a run since May 10th four appearances ago back on track there with a strike [Applause] the 2-1 bouncer to Second Hill div snags throws got [Applause] him gold star play by the yellow jackets second baseman well tougher than it look cuz it hit the mound you see it on the replay here hits the mound and the ball stays down he’ll has to dive to pick it up and still throws out Deadman who runs well that hop behind the mound gets a funky bounce to hillu Dives to keep it on the infield and gets to his feed and throws him out nice [Applause] play two away for Andrew Dutton strike one to the second Paceman dton is 0 for three today [Music] [Applause] Harvey tried to pull that one back into the Zone one and [Applause] [Music] [Music] one that time hit the Zone dead Lawler one and two big momentum shift in the top of the seventh jacket trying to carry that over into the eighth and they will strike three called Randolph mon in a tie game with Birmingham Southern going to the top of the eth [Applause] [Music] [Music] eighth inning still anybody’s ball game here an elimination game that anybody’s game but everybody wants to keep playing baseball in 2024 it’s a battle of the bullpens now now Hansen mcgaan still out on the mound for Birmingham Southern he’ll face the four five and six hitters for Rand mon who have rallied from four down with two in the fifth and now two in the seventh and you certainly sense this energetic crowd feels momentum is on the side of the yellow jackets oh [Applause] yeah miles web to lead it off here in the top of the eighth inning goes after the first pitch and it’s down for a base hit go ahead run aboard for the [Music] jackets if Randol Min would get the lead the yellow jackets have Sam seven who’s among the national leaders with 11 saves still in the bullpen seven is not pitched in the tournament yet so he’s well rested Chaz Harvey the catcher snap throw to first to keep an eye on [Music] [Applause] web and here we go with little battery chat with action in the Birmingham Southern Bullpen I don’t think they think Harvey’s going to bunt he’s the power source for the yellow jackets with 12 home runs 48 [Applause] RBI Harvey 0 for three today 0 for six in the College World [Applause] [Music] Series waiting for his first offering from maau Chaz Harvey the junior catcher look at that Harvey showing bu sh bun he has not done so successfully this year this might be all window dressing but we shall see the wheels are turning here in East [Applause] [Music] Lake squares pulls back in time one and0 Ray Hedrick still wants to play small ball even with this big power hitter apparently [Music] let’s see if he keeps the bunt [Applause] on got it down maau looked at second but goes to first like number eight been doing that all season long nice nicely executed pitcher looked at second then theci side and that’ be too risky got the sh out it’s the lead run at second with one out here in the E Harvey rightfully so got a lot of love from that jacket’s Dugout for executing perfectly now Meyers Matt Meyers the left fielder just outside ball one Mars was hit by a pitch stole a base and came around to score last inning he certainly got the troops fired up screaming at The Dugout let’s go after that hit [Applause] batsman strike from mowan one and one Myers drove in three runs yesterday with the bases clearing double in the first inning got the yellow jackets off and running against Whitewater but the warhawks came back with 11 unanswered [Applause] tried to punch it somewhere did Meyers but he’s down one and [Applause] two Myers a 273 hitter on the air with 22 rbi’s go ahead run out at second that’s web met Meers the onew pitch again into the seats foul [Applause] high drama here at Classic Park and perhaps a classic finish for one of these teams skipped up there throw to third is not in time good awareness by web saw that ball jocking around at home plate I think Austin get spiked at third inadvertently [Applause] but shaking up anyway here it is Nelson does a nice job to get this ball but he’s throws in the dirt and Austin can’t handle it I think Austin may have tripped over the bag let’s take a look I think the spike might have got him in the C maybe on the backside yeah all kinds of awkward there for number anyway the infield going to have to come in now with a runner on third one out a one-w pitch coming Meyers checked his swing on the appeal they say he did two and two [Music] [Applause] [Music] It’s a Full Count now 3-2 pitch and a base hit to put the jackets in front for the first time tonight Matt Meers is a senior from Hamstead Maryland when the infield drawn in does what your coach to do hit the ball hard up the middle he does so his fourth RBI of the tournament and Randol makan has their first lead since the first inning last night they’ll be a pitching change for Birmingham Southern and for the first time in this game the Panthers Trail on the scoreboard it’s 54 in the top of the eighth inning [Music] here’s your scoreboard change here at the division three basebowl championships Randolph mon in front 5 to four in the top of the eighth new pitcher comes in the Freshman right-hander Jacob Fields quite a spot for a freshman Jacob Fields 1 and one with a 437 ER his 18th appearance all out of the bullpen Fields thrown 22 and 23s Innings and allow 22 hits 11 earned runs he’s walked 14 struck out 33 so he’s a strikeout guy opponents have hit 244 against his freshman from aworth Georgia and again he’s a guy whose school is not in existence anymore so his future up in the air where is Jacob Fields going to play and go to school next year those fans you saw behind the home team dug out they’ve been hooting and hollering the whole time but they have been quieted it’s the fans in the third base side now who have rallied the troops to come all the way back from a 4 nothing deficit to lead this 5 to [Applause] four so fields on in relief to face graci Grayson Bush and tosses strike one Bush three for six in the tournament he scored a pair of runs includ or both of those occurred [Applause] today two quick strikes from fields so close Bush off the end of the bat right field it’ll fall Meyers all the way to Third and the yellow jackets say we’re not done yet in the eighth reason Busch just sticks his Bat Out gets it into right field Myers read it well at first base he knew it was going to fall he’s on his horse and makes it to third easily so the big inning for Randolph Makin continues and now elay Brooks double play depth for the Birmingham infield Nelson keeping an eye on [Applause] everybody the corners again are the jackets books faked the bun that was not obviously a suicide squeeze [Music] [Applause] [Music] drops it down Nelson going to go to first and get the out again that’s a safety squeeze so it advances the runner to Second and now it’s up to Jordan Hill to bring him in [Applause] on the runner Meyers instructions only go if they air mail it but he was playing it safe indeed going to give Jordan Hill a chance here to bring him in along with bush out at second and it gets away here comes Meyers he’s in there 64 ball game fourth wild pitch of the year for the Freshman nson had no chance at that pitch and that hurts if you’re Birmingham Southern and this is just an opportunity the veterans Austin and Tru trying to calm Fields down who’s got to be mad at himself for that run score cuz that changes the complexion of the last two innings in a big [Applause] way Fields tried to Rally to the plate get the throw make a play couldn’t do it pounded his glove knew what that meant now is team down by a [Applause] pair one0 to Hill two and0 and it gets away again are you kidding 74 Randolph mon Birmingham Southern handing them the lead that body language tells you all you really need to know whether you’re making a documentary film or not [Applause] [Music] right now it’s not looking like a very happy [Applause] [Music] ending seven unanswered runs by the jackets and he’ll takes the free pass though the inning’s still not over yet top of the order and quey the batter [Applause] [Music] we he had a big two out hit last inning to bring in a run and I got to say I I can’t believe he’s going to stay with Fields we’s going to go try to settle this freshman [Music] down there is Bullpen activity but generally the pitching coach doesn’t make the pitching change so this looks like just to quit hanging your head let’s get this guy you saw Fields really [Applause] dejected Charlie horn is throwing in the bullpen but they stay with Fields that’s a big run [Applause] though it’s been seven unanswered by Randolph mon ever since they fell behind for love after the first three Innings two in the fifth two in the seventh three here in the eighth Nelson prevented that from being a wild pitch [Music] and Birmingham Southern for all the early noise those three runs in the fifth on those two home runs ever since then just a run on two base [Applause] [Music] hits Randolph Mak was patient stuck with their game plan to claw back in this one and now take the lead here in the eighth two and one to [Applause] [Music] quy in the dirt Nelson couldn’t find the handle Hill gets the stolen bag third one wild pitch with this three-run inning Fields trying to find a way runs to count full now on quey I mean the tough thing for the Panthers if you’re a Panthers fan all this damage is self-induced two hit batsman in the seventh came around to score three wild pitches here been three hits in a walk as well but [Applause] uh they flirted with danger a little too much 3-2 pitch his ball four not even close and now Carter Smith with four hits on the day gonna hit with two on but he’s gonna face a new [Applause] [Music] pitcher tell you about number 18 when we return 74 it’s the jackets in front of the Panthers Charlie horns turn the Lefty trying to come in and get this final out here and put the top of the eighth inning to bed Char the fourth pitcher used by Birmingham Southern horn in the year one and two with a 362 earned run average this is his 15th appearance he’s had four saves which is tied for the team best in 27 and the third Innings the left-handers allowed 28 hits 11 earned runs he’s walked 12 struck out 29 opponents have hit 255 against Charlie horn Birmingham Southern they’re not picky at this point get it out anywhere he still have six outs left but for the first time playing from behind against their opponents [Music] KY horns from germant toown [Music] [Applause] Tennessee 6 feet 185 lbs of sophomore of the St George independent in Germantown and final throw made by horn means Carter Schmidt can step to the [Applause] [Music] [Applause] plate so Carter Schmidt with two aboard can really open this one up if he can find some green 5 for n in the tournament including four for four today [Music] strike one from horn he knocked in the game time run in the [Applause] seventh another strike [Applause] hor needs one more Smith’s going to take a walk and think about it ask for [Applause] [Music] time taking a lot of [Applause] time now I think the pitcher asked for time throw throwback to the old days there Bob yeah every needs time fou [Applause] [Music] off three runs in for Randolph mon looking for more seven runs on 11 hits for the jacket one and [Applause] two SMI waiting and a little spinner that lands in the midd of Dutton side retired but oh my what an inning it was for the jack ETS eight to the plate and three on the board and in front in this ball game middle of eight 7 [Applause] [Music] to4 you’ve heard us talk about Sam seven well here he is coming on in the bottom of the eighth inning for the yellow jackets we talked about effective seven has been and now they’ve got the lead you get to see him he is second nationally in the number of saves 11 on the Year Sam 3 and two with a 241 ER this is his 26th appearance in 33 and two3 innings he’s allowed 30 hits just ner in runs he’s walked 11 struck out 38 opponents have hit 236 against this junior rander it’s going to face Jackson Webster remember how this game started back in the 1st for Birmingham Southern started like this Webster gone punched a two-run shot to that burm out in left center right up the signage and it was yeah Webster [Applause] saying this is too easy can you remember how noisy it was here here I do Birmingham Southerns try to recreate that energy as the teams down to their last six outs see if Webster can start it against seven it’s ball one seven from Virginia Beach [Applause] Virginia two and0 [Applause] [Music] and S gets his first strike in there two to one two and [Applause] [Music] one pitched in two games in the Super Regional last week against Adrien center field but it’ll stay in the park quey on the Run makes the catch one away that Webster home run in the first such a big blast what a way to Kickstart an emotional game for everybody here in the ballpark and you’re looking around saying is someone writing this the script for this movie I [Music] mean it’s a amazing and then they got another home run off the bat of banks Randolph mon they didn’t they didn’t read the script they had their own story to tell facee hit to right by Hancock Brooks got there in a hurry to get it in and hold Hancock to a single and hancocka Senior his teammates voted they wanted him to take the last batting practice at Birmingham Southerns field on Tuesday so he was in the last one in the cage before the team shut down it was on campus they left the next day and had a lot of support both here back in Birmingham and nationally here’s Banks he homered in the first as well hit the same sign signage out there it was a solo shot had a double in the third tried to hit that sign [Music] again back a 374 hitter now with six home runs 34 rbi’s rips a foul seven got him one and two Charlie’s four for eight with two RB in the tournament [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Applause] cross over and web had to do a little Tango [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] there with five outs to go Hancock who’s stolen one base this year I highly doubt is thinking about stealing a base [Applause] thans has shown us he can make this a one-run game with one swing paddling here one and two against seven a two and two light starting to take effect here in this game which feels like it should be prime time with the documentary film crew following Birmingham Southern and all the drama involved with their program base hit to left Banks delivers tying run comes to the plate for the Panthers this is Jacob zitto who entered the game as a pinched hitter in the sixth and got a hit zitto is a 271 hitter with four homers 39 RB he’s got two aboard with one away zitto takes strike one the Randolph making Bullpen is quiet this is Seven’s game he’s got a three-run lead [Applause] [Music] [Applause] VTO one for five yesterday against salv [Music] Regina hit hard to center field quy giving Chase he won’t get there it bounces off the wall stays in the park and it’ll score two Zito in the third it’s 76 what was that strip you were talking about these guys are writing it as they go along Jacob Zito with his second trip of the year brings in two and now it’s Randol mon who’s got a regroup and Birmingham Southerns fans are back in the game I think we’re going to get a review here I’m guessing it’s going to be to ask whether the ball should be a ground R double or not I’m just guessing I think I think your guess is right my eyesight is is poor but I did see the ball bounce off the wall Ray Hedrick has asked for the review again after the seventh inning it’s a umpire review not a coach’s challenge so the umpires I think will honor his request that they look at it and they will they’re going to review something and that’s that is my guess as there’s a caucus on the mound involving the battery in the infield for Randolph B well and quey we’ll take a look quey didn’t put his hands up to say the ball went over the fence he played it off the wall and tried to get it in in time he had a go a long way for this ball which was jolted by zitto see it bounces on the track and then yep it’s the yellow line and stays in play bounces back past quey at see right there actually pass his glove quy was there hoping it would fall into his glove and really that 4 twoth his bounce probably enables zitto to take an extra base should be a quick review we shall see but because of the bounce because it wasn’t a ground rule double it cleared the two Runners and as Bill said allowed Zito to get the third which is huge because with one out he can score a deep Fly ball and tie this game up Kai Truitt is the next hitter he’s conferring with the coaches let this will be the results of the review here I guess that means he’s staying at third I guess so remember my suggestion box about the microphone yeah I’m I’m with you like a little bit more details but you were right on the call on what they were looking at so everything stands and the scoreboard is now 76 the infield will come in to try to cut off the tying run or prevent the tying run from scoring a third on a ground ball and this is Ty truid at the pl he’s 0 for three one for eight in the tournament Enfield and tight at the corners TR it tried to punch it over that infield up their middle they’re I guess you could say they’re halfway but they’re in closer to the grass infield grass than they are the Outfield grass there’s a look at the infield alignment with one out and TR run a third gets the bunt down suicide squeeze got him what a play by web what a play by web who charges from first and then highligh it to the [Applause] catcher this may be a review as well I guess cuz it’s such a big play why not wow Tru gets the bun down here here it is again there is going to be a review but charging first baseman doesn’t even take the ball out of his glove he flips it to the catcher who makes the tag on the onrushing Zito and and Zito his reaction there not arguing the call but just frustrated that he couldn’t tie this ball game up but again I think the umpires recognize the significance of the call so why not make sure you get it right it’s quite a script that you alluded to Crazy unfathomable another look great play as Bill said by web to scoop it with the glove and Harvey right there to reach out looks like he makes the tag on the arm before he can swim move around and get the play like I like you said I don’t think he’s contesting the call I think it’s a reaction out of frustration but again I don’t blame the umpires on this one this one you got to get right and give Harvey credit for making a nice play as well yeah hanging in there but web in charging that was a Do or Die Play he didn’t have time to get the ball out into his hand here comes the decision from the umpires call stands score board stays at [Applause] 76 Randolph mon Dodges a bullet and stays in front by a sliver two away now trits the runner at first that wasn’t a bad bu I mean no the execution was great web just makes a heck of a play and zitto committed to it all the way charging in hard you just tip your cap for a gold glove play we have a pinch hitter here Grant Morgan a sophomore backup Catcher And [Music] outfielder grants A 222 hitter with two homers six [Applause] rbi’s one and0 to Morgan Weissberg the coach looking for some Thunder off the [Applause] [Music] bench in the dirt Harvey snuffs it two [Applause] [Music] and0 Birmingham Southern is not treated s well no there goes the runner Harvey’s throw not in time trit swiped second base now he’s hoping Grant Morgan can find some green seven Steel in the year for [Applause] truid R min’s got activity in the bullpen [Applause] [Music] now 2-1 coming to Morgan three and [Applause] One S base hit to left by Morgan going to send the runner home this will tie it at seven how about that Grant Morgan with a two out hit and a big welcome in The Dugout and this team just won’t quit going to be a pinch runner for the latest hero for the Panthers Grant Morgan [Music] [Applause] and sevens going to be replaced four hits in the inning against the one of the nation’s leader in saves and he gets the hook 77 in the eth pitching change here in Ohio [Applause] [Music] Jason Barber is the pinch Runner the new pitcher for Birmingham or for Randall mon is Michael Shanahan [Music] yeah the the documentary crew scrambling here maybe they powered the cameras down and thought well this will be the end of the story until it comes to the final out nope game on game tied at seven three runs play in for the Panthers here in the bottom half of the eighth inning and the yellow jackets go to the pen again with Michael Shanahan e Eli stemman lead off [Applause] hitter Lefty against the righty Shanahan saet is out of the way one and0 nice stop by [Applause] [Music] Harvey that keeps those both base runners from getting into scoring position Stan’s 0 for four 0 for seven in the [Applause] tournament some oo and a there from the crowd Eli is the 300 hitter on the [Applause] year one and one Shanahan brings it stman checked in time two and [Applause] one five of the Birmingham Southern nine hits have come in this inning bring themselves back from the depths two and two with two aboard if you’re joining us expecting to see Whitewater play can Sal Regina this is an elimination [Applause] game low they’re full and now those two Runners are going to be on the move this place is up for grabs strike three called stunden think so yellow jackets will take it get back in the Dugout and head to the ninth tied at [Applause] [Music] [Applause] seven big moment big pitch and strike three called kept this game tied at seven so now no matter how this ends it will be a dramatic finish for one of these teams in the ninth or Beyond got a bunch of changes after all the pinch hitting that went on in that eighth inning looks like Parker lad replaces Austin down at the third [Applause] [Music] base get you caught up on the other ones but for now horn back to work the Lefty against wowski in the top of the N [Applause] [Music] [Applause] inning ball [Applause] [Music] [Applause] one and a strike there to even the count at one and one [Music] [Applause] [Music] Ty trit bill is he was out a shortstop he’s now catching yeah said he’s a versatile guy yeah so he’s behind the dish replaces Nelson we told you about lad replacing Austin at third now we’ll get the new short stop for you shortly to the second base side Dutton who’s still in there makes the play one away well look if you’re Birmingham Southern you didn’t want to take the lead there in the eighth you want to walk it off in the bottom of the ninth right if we’re truly going to do this in Disney movie style that’s how you get it done you convinced me this script is very unpredictable here’s miles web got to keep this inning clean first to set themselves up to walk it off Randolph mon has shown they’ve been up to the task count is even on web Webb remember made that web gem on the suicide squeeze pun intended that was snuffing out the tying run at the time and Birmingham Southern picked themselves up and still tied it onew coming from horn way outside Almost Got Away from Truitt Jason Barber who was in the game as a pinch Runner is now playing shorts [Applause] [Music] now two and two to the first baseman of the jacket ah pitch clock violation the first we’ve [Applause] [Music] [Applause] had and out comes Jen Weissberg hands were extended so now the count is full but that’s the first time we’ve had the third base umpire come out and make that motion that’s a big call sitting 3-2 web lines it to left for a base hit go ahead run back on the bases for the jackets with authority we gets his second in in as many innings he’s not two for five [Applause] today and now Harvey the catcher [Applause] remember in that three-run eighth inning it was Harvey who was asked to bunt and he did successfully but also remember Harvey’s got 12 home runs and 48 RBI there’s another pitch clock violation I believe now home play umpire will Bowers he’s calling horn over no he had [Applause] something he’s got something uh something there like like a wristband or this might be the pitchcombe that’s what the Birmingham Southern coach was saying there was a malfunction anyway me orders were stored there was no pitch clock violation so no count to Harvey low for ball one that might have been what slowed horn down and pitchcombe [Applause] when things malfunction for us production guys they just they just reboot it just hit the reset button web at first 21 out of 25 in stolen base [Music] [Applause] opportunities he’s the goahead run the ninth [Applause] Chaz Harvey waiting again standing in with a 1 oh Count Strike one and [Applause] one this would be a good pitch for a Webb to run on [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] one and one catcher swings a mighty swing at that screwed himself in the ground at that offs speed delivery [Music] [Applause] [Music] hen’s looking out [Applause] there shaking his head saying what do you want I want that whatever it was horn gets the strike out two down [Applause] it’s up to Meyers now he’s had a big night one for three scored two runs stolen two bases knocked in four runs in the [Music] [Applause] tournament Panthers bottom of the ninth Dutton Webster and Han coocker scheduled 2 3 4 but first things first keep this game intact at s all and Horn determined to keep Webb at first base and out of scoring [Music] [Applause] position Matt Myers strike one if you’re joining us in the hopes to watch whitew salvate Regina this is Birmingham Southern team with no school back home against Randol mon Birmingham jumped out to a 4 nothing lead hit two first inning homers in a three-run first only to see Randol making a rally to take the lead and then Birmingham Southern with three in the bottom of the E has tied it one and one to Matt Meers the school with an enrollment this past school year of 731 [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] and whether or [Music] [Applause] not you were invested in the baseball team at Birmingham Southern of the 731 you became a part of this last link to that University Runner goes and the ball skips away from truit web now down at second base a lot of pressure on trit got a converted short stop I mean been a short stop for all but this inning in the [Music] tournament you made all the the moves with the pinch hitters and the shuffling to get this game tied again the defensive changes go with it you hope it doesn’t hurt two and two now nice pitch on horn Lefty Lefty match up to Myers Crow into it again for Birmingham Southern 2-2 pitch on the ground to First gobble up by Webster do you believe it do you believe in dramatic finishes bottom of the ninth tie game at seven a piece [Applause] [Music] I go without yeah I guess I better get up 77 our score in the bottom of the ninth [Music] inning Birmingham Southern like their opponents Randolph mon fighting for their baseball lives Birmingham Southern though fighting to keep the memory of their former School alive it’s Andrew Dutton to lead it off against Shanahan the right-hander ball one inside Webster to follow who hit the home run back in the first inning and then Hancock [Music] after two and0 [Music] [Applause] not a strike yet for Dutton to work with Michael Shanahan got the last out in the eighth he allowed a hit in the eighth [Applause] winning run [Music] aboard well we saw the cleanup hitter bunt from birming from Randolph mon to ask another Slugger to bunt here in Jackson Webster [Music] I think that’s what’s being discussed the mountain right now how they’re going to defense that if it [Music] occurs D Dutton four for four on stolen base attempts at first Webster again got this party started back in the First with a two-run blast here it is from from the way back machine Webster one for three tonight with that big bomb he’s two for six in the tournament Randal M thinks he’s Bunning he’s not oh he’s [Applause] [Music] [Applause] swinging shanam got a strike on him Webster has not bunted successfully all year or maybe been asked to and button his shirt again and took a swing tring to be the hero here in coock Waits on Deck Banks after him who also homered in that first inning 0 and2 to Jackson Webster Webster with 14 home runs on the year 50 RBI [Applause] blasted to left are you kidding are you kidding and do you believe Alive and Kicking Birmingham Southern wins it [Applause] 9-7 Jackson Webster second two-run Homer of the game completes the comeback for Birmingham Southern who blew a 4 nothing lead only to come back and tie it with three in the E come back from 74 now and then win it 97 on Webster’s second big blast of the night they will live for another day and and a dramatic 97 win in an elimination game over Randol mon I asked the question twice are you kidding and do you believe because this is unbelievable look at that Dugout I mean there’s no doubt about it he he extends the arms just the matter where where this one’s going to land it was well over the fence Randol makan has their hearts broken they’re going home but Birmingham Southern doesn’t have a school to go home to will stay here in Ohio for another day and still has a chance to win a National Championship for the dead College Society this party no one can break up this party they just keep on celebrating the fact that they are still playing baseball and they’re still representing their former School Birmingham Southern College what a wild game it was what a wild ride these guys are they will play at 3:00 tomorrow against the loser of our night cap either Salve Regina or Wisconsin Whitewater they’ll take a 33 and 15 record of that game Randol mon closes out their season with a 33 and6 record they gave it a gutty effort tonight but they have something special to go up against I don’t know if you believe in a team of Destiny but those guys in white are think the closest thing to it final score 97 in nine innings we’ve got another game to go salv Regina and Wisconsin Whitewater got to follow this up two teams that won their first game we’ll have it for you in about 4550 minutes on ncaa.com [Applause]

  1. These are some terrible times when schools are forced to close their doors!! Hopefully these boys can get to the finals and win it all!! How sweet would that be

  2. Man it would be pretty awesome for them to go out on top, this is one great story right here. How can you not be romantic about baseball?

  3. It doesn't get any more American than the school closing but the baseball team stays in the game. Guessing they didn't learn the art of the comeback in class there.
