e [Music] now the hunt Palmer show you are now listening to the hunt Palmer show on 1045 ESPN BR Rouge walking down the middle of the day live from the mercedesbenz of Baton Rouge Studios this is hunt [Music] bmer welcome in Hunt Palmer coming to you from the mercedesbenz Baton rge studio downtown in the capital city on this Wednesday just about half the work week in the rear view Mir got Jacob Beck and Cassie spaz back there on the ones and twos K Riley coming at you in 15 minutes from Chapel Hill North Carolina K of course covers the Tigers for The Advocate he’s with us every single Wednesday already done his traveling unless you’ll have press conference in practice tomorrow and we’ll get the Baton no what it usually is it’s not the Baton Rouge Regional we’ll get the Chapel Hill Regional underway on Friday it’s a what if Wednesday got a lot to talk about there is Lincoln Riley scared maybe we’ll talk about that MLB mock draft came out via ESPN Sharie aack coming to us from Saints OTAs and Ronnie rans talking LSU baseball as well as the rugaru so we’re fired up to get rolling here over the next two hours I I think I’ve built up not I mean I haven’t been on the air as long as hannie I have not been on the air as long as Matt I haven’t been on the air as long as Jacob and T-Bob uh but I think I have given a little bit of equity to the listeners and I’ve got a little bit built up here and I think y’all understand generally where I come from and so I’m not trying to blow smoke I’m not trying to make things up for hot takes I pretty much just tell you how I see it and I think y’all pretty much understand that so when I go into this segment I think y’all can understand that I am not just strapping on purple and gold glasses and screaming to the heavens like I’m telling you what I think based on research and so we’re going to talk about wford right now we’re going to talk about their pitching we’re going to talk about their offense that’s who LSU is going to play at 11:00 on Friday it’s a pertinent topic I thought about holding it for tomorrow we’re going to do it now and I’ve I understand in prefacing this Spiel that I’m going to go on that baseball is a game where a lot of things can happen I watch Southern go into the box and wear LSU out for nine innings just a couple of months ago I watch Stony Brook come in there and dominate two games after LSU won a crazy one I’ve seen Jackson State go to National seed ul and win a Friday game I’ve seen Notre Dame go play the best college baseball team I have ever seen in Knoxville and beat them two out of three I’m not sitting here telling you that LSU is going to boat race wford you don’t even need to watch I am telling you that I am skeptical of this wford team I’m skeptical I’m skeptical of numbers that doesn’t mean they can’t beat LSU or that they can’t for a day overwhelm LSU it’s possible in this sport it can’t happen in football it can happen in this sport but I’m going to State this case and you can take with it whatever you want we’ll start with their Ace Zack Callen who everyone believes that LSU is going to see on Friday and his numbers are very very strong on the season you’re looking at the best ER on their squad at 3.55 you’re looking at a guy that has a really good number of strikeouts he’s thrown 104 Innings and has 118 K the walk rate’s good only 28 and I watched him pitch last night I watched six Innings of Zack Cowan pitching not highlights not bits and pieces here like I watched him pitch six full Innings and the REM the the pitcher that he reminded me of was Tanner Hall from right here in the Baton Rouge area who went to Southern Miss and had a spectacular career and ended up going in the fourth round now full disclosure I know that Tanner Hall hits low 90s 91 92 up to 93 at the end of his Southern Miss career I didn’t have a radar gun on Zack cow which compromises my ability to fully speak to what he is as a pitcher because you’re watching low-level baseball here you’re looking at the socon and I don’t have on the broadcast a radar gun but he’s 5’11 180 and right-handed he’s a little shorter he’s a good athlete he’s not super projectable that’s very much like Tanner Hall at Southern Miss there’s a lot of junk and none of it straight he’s sinking his fast ball he’s cutting it he’s throwing a slider he’s got a big change up he’ll throw nothing he throws is straight and his goal is to keep you very off balance he throws a lot of different pitches and a lot of different counts which is a positive for him he’s not dependent on his fast ball he’s not dependent on the change up being his devastating pitch it’s not a Wipeout slider he’s just going to kind of throw them all 3-1 I’ll flip a change up in there 02 I’ll throw the fast ball like he’ll he just he mixes it up and that’s what keeps hitters off guard I watched his start against the Citadel they were three and 18 in socon so what can I take from that I’m not really sure then I watched his start against Samford who was a better team and he gave up four runs on eight hits now that was on really short rest he was overused last week in ter in terms of staying in your regiment and performing at a peak level I believe he was overused last week but he’s got a little bit more rest on the backside and we’ll see how this goes I think he’s a nice pitcher I think he would be in the starting rotation at some SEC schools based on what LSU threw out there in a lot of game threes this year I I’m not certain that Zack Callan couldn’t fit in there is he an ace in the SEC I don’t think so he’s facing a lot of socon teams he had some really good outings he had some outings that were not that great but the thing that he does every time out against that level of competition is get deep into games he got into the sixth inning in every start since his first one and I don’t expect you on February 17th to get into the six he almost got at the 534 and 2/3 but you know there are some games that I look at and go man that’s that’s really quality stuff against the Citadel like I was talking about who was a bad team this year six and two thirs only gave up one run six strikeouts one walk but there were days where he got knocked all over the yard UNCC Greensboro had 12 hits in six and two3 scored seven runs Samford back two weeks ago had 10 hits scored nine runs now in 10 hits and nine run outing he still went seven in a third so what does that tell you he’s the guy he’s the guy that they’re going to go with even if he’s getting hit they’re going to keep him out there I think he’s an average arm if you hear someone say that wild watford’s got an ace I think he’s fine now I thought gonzaga’s fine was guy was fine a couple years ago and he carved LSU up it could happen but this is not a guy I look at and go uh oh he’s got 98 in the tank like you better get ready this is not Ben hes from Alabama yeah the numbers aren’t great but on a wrong day look out he’s not projectable he’s not big he’s a good athlete and he’s just going to throw a lot of different pitches and move the ball all over the place LSU lit Tanner Hall up on short rest a couple years ago in hadburg had him out of the game I don’t know if Zack Call’s coming out of the game but remains to be seen now here’s the other part part of this you hear man this waer team can really swing it they can really swing it and if I look at the statistics okay every single starter in their lineup hits over 291 Marshall tul 383 Bryce Martinez 376 Dixon black 368 Lucas Manning 367 you get the point they are the number one batting average in on base percentage of the teams in this field all 64 of them they lead it man they can really swing it well we’ll see because they didn’t really step out of conference and do much and then they went into the socon and they swung the bat pretty good but let’s take a deeper look at where some of these offensive statistics may come from they played Lafayette in a three-game series Lafayette is the number 244 RPI team in three games while scored 57 runs that is almost 20 per game they played three games against forom who was 193 in the RPI they scored 48 runs in three games on a Tuesday against Charleston Southern they scored 29 runs in a game on a Tuesday that’s Charleston Southern’s midweek teams played a Tuesday game against Presbyterian College scored 24 in that one and I started looking around going well who’s like good that they played and how’ they do in that well the best team that they played in the RPI is Charleston you probably saw Charleston’s head coach former coach of South Carolina get emotional on Monday when they didn’t get picked they won 41 games this year their RPI was 42 they were one of the last two three teams that didn’t make the field and they played a three-game set against wford that’s a pretty good baseball team in Charleston how wford do they scored none in the first game they scored three in the second game they scored seven in the third game there is no weekend Series against Tennessee here there’s no weekend Series against Florida State there’s no weekend Series against the Big 10 champion in Indiana Illinois this is all done against Bad teams now you know that you know the socon team is not playing an SEC schedule but then you start to look at some of the statistics they’re rolling up against these atrocious teams and I’m going can they really swing it can’t are we sure I’m not because Gates jump doesn’t pitch for Presbyterian College on Tuesdays this is a guess I can’t be sure of this I would suggest that this Watford offense would be 12th in the SEC it’s probably they can probably hit with Missouri and yeah scoring 57 runs on a weekend like that you have to go out there and hit the ball but do I need to put a lot of stock in it based on Gage jump and Nate aenh Housen and Griffin Herring coming to town on Friday I don’t think so let’s be real honest wford is the five seed in socon that’s what wford is so I think the narrative around this game is they got a True Ace they can really swing it well really I think wford is in for some trouble on Friday and it goes back to the thing I said at the beginning this does not mean wford can’t beat LSU 9 to2 on Friday they absolutely could but think if this game gets played 10 times watford’s in trouble like I don’t mean to be like as I said at the top like to be the big bad wol oh purple and gold glasses no SEC elitist and taking them lightly and I I’m just telling you what I see I see a team that scored 60 runs in three games against Lafayette and comes in here with an inflated batting average I’m seeing a pitcher with really average stuff that’s churning through socon now one of these games goes sideways every single year four of these these games go sideways every single year but I feel pretty good about LSU with Gage jump or Luke Heman on the mound against the five seed in socon I don’t care how many 300 batting averages they have I just don’t I’ll be very disappointed to come back here on Monday and shovel home at tonic Crow actually the game will probably end during the second hour of our show on Friday and I’ll sit here and tell you that I’m an idiot but I’m just telling you what I think when I watch this kid pitch and I look at these numbers and I see one quality weekend Series where the offense didn’t really play very well and got shut out in the first game and I’m going I’m thinking this is not a team that’s terrifying this is not a bad draw this is a team LSU should show up on Friday take care of business and get ready to play the tar Hills on Saturday night that’s the way that I see it we’ll ask K about it K Riley going to come on from Chapel Hill North Carolina that’s two locations Nicholson just south of campus and blue Bonet in front of the mall of Louisiana K Riley covers those LSU Tigers for The Advocate good enough to join us every single Wednesday and does so from North Carolina K how are you doing pretty well just check to my hotel how are you I’m doing quite well um let’s speaking of hotels you’re in a hotel for a week there in uh in Hoover um your thoughts big picture on LSU’s performance in the SEC tournament um extremely promising obviously uh they played like a team that can make it to Omaha again um and I think it’s that simple and uh I I think there’s one big caveat I think we all have to sort of remember and that they didn’t really face another team that had its top pitches available for the game per se like Kentucky didn’t have its top guys Georgia didn’t have its top Guys South Carolina doesn’t really have top guys yeah um and they didn’t really face they didn’t even face Tennessee’s top guys but Els you didn’t have those top guys either in that game so that that’s kind of more of an even split to me but like it just I think we have to kind of remember that a little bit but at the same time I think the offense has just looked better because you know stepen mil’s been doing this for not just Hoover and not just with that walk-off home run but for a few weeks now and um I think some of the progress with that offense combined with what the pitching has done which I think is pretty legit um especially with Gage jump and Luke homman uh I think when you combine that all together you you’re looking at a team that um always had the talent to make to Omaha but has now shown that they can in fact do it again um just based on the you know actual performance actual results and we’ve really seen those results over the last you know month or so Jay’s talked about the the confidence this team has now on the attitude they’ve got that maybe wasn’t there back back five six weeks ago have have you sensed that um yeah yeah I it just feels like they’re playing a lot more free and I I might have mentioned this in the last time we we had I was on the show but uh it just seems like they’re playing a lot more free a lot more loose um you know like that that constant disappointment that you know obviously came to fruition after all those losses especially after the Tennessee series when they dropped a three and 12 in conference play uh that’s all pretty much gone and in the rear Mir now like they seem like a completely different team in terms of body language so uh I think that’s definitely good good news for elsu fans and uh I mean it’s hard to have B bad body language when you’re winning this much yeah uh how big a lot would Christian little be if they can’t put him on the active roster this weekend um I think it would be fairly significant I I don’t know if it would be quite as significant as it was say two weeks ago because I think there are a couple guys that have thrown a little bit better as of late or at least shown they can for a little bit better um I think Justin lores had three of the last four appearances have been pretty good um I mean just kind of go down the line right like there’s there were some I they were some poor performances at the Bullpen when they had those Johnny Hol staff games against South Carolina but when they needed to get zeros they got zeros when they had to get zeros so um I think that was a pretty good sign and I mean it really pick your pick your guy and he and that person probably had at least one good performance over this past week and uh like Kate Anderson had two pretty pretty big Innings um you know they still have Griffin Herring and um you know Nate aen Howen and Gavin gy so I I I don’t I’m not I’m not overly worried about the state of their Bullpen if they don’t for obviously it would help if they had him which is another option he’s very good pitcher he’s been very good lately um and even though again he wasn’t perfect against South Carolina either so I’m just sort of looking at this team as you know you don’t have you’re you’re losing one very reliable guy but you have a bunch of other I guess potential potentially reliable guys because they because I think all those guys pitch better or most those guys at least shown they pitched better um in Hoover than they have for most the regular season one of the guys you did mention there was Thatcher herd and I think we’ve all kind of put to bed the the two performances that we three performances really that we saw in the postseason last year him coming in there for 18 outs I don’t think is in anybody’s um anybody’s view but what about for three outs what about for four five outs um I think the team thinks he can do it for sure I I think Tommy White Alex mvo and Jay Johnson made a point of mentioning him in terms of you know Bullpen guys that could potentially Step Up um especially if Christian little was out for the regional um I I I think that is that that that’s definitely going to be um a storyline to watch out for because he had an inning or two there I think you know the majority of his Innings he had in Hoover were really good really impressive like when he was when he’s locating that fast ball man he is tough to hit because that curveball that slider is disgusting and when it’s not when he’s not locating um and it’s not just throwing balls it’s not just walking guys it’s you know leaving pitches over the plate to get hit um if he’s not locating that fast ball it’s it it makes makes life very tough for him and uh you saw that for you saw the first two innings against that in that South Carolina start and then it sort of fell apart the third and then um the first inning he had in in relief again against Tennessee and then he was really good and that second inning he gave up a run so it’s that’s just kind of been the S of her experience right for pretty much his entire LSU tenure and uh let’s see you know if he can take another step forward in this Regional because my guess is he’s gonna pitch at some point just because you know this team has a lot of confidence in him KY Riley is our guest LSU beat reporter for the advocate he is up in Chapel Hill North Carolina LSU in wford coming up on Friday afternoon 11 o’clock Central Time noon up there in uh in North Carolina uh what you think when you saw the draw um surprised honestly I I didn’t think they get North Carolina and I thought if they’re going to go North Carolina probably North Carolina state or something like that um I I just figured that North Carolina being a top fiveish team in the country wouldn’t get that tough of a draw um in LSU and uh then they did so I thought you know NC State or Oklahoma State maybe uh maybe they’d go out west of the Santa Barbara but I I I just didn’t think it would be un see in particular and uh it’s going to be very fascinating to see how this match how all all these how you know they match up against um not just UNC but also wford Watford is um a really good offensive team and they can’t just poo poo that game that’s a top 50 team in the RPI the team that scores a lot of runs the team that’s that’s the team that plays a very aggressive style of um offense and I I wouldn’t be as worried about it for LSU if you didn’t have to face their number one pitcher and Zach Cen who has had a very good year for them you know like sub for you know sub three and a half the uh he he thre 13 Innings last week in to to win the socon tournament twice in the same tournament you know he threw on on 38 rest the second time so the guy kind of has a rubber arm it seems like threw over 100 pitches in the second star I believe so he’s he’s gonna be dangerous and they gota they gotta hit their way they gotta hit to get him out of the game um they’re going to leave him in even if he’s at 100 pitches in the ninth inning so um that’s something you got to remember and if this if elsu hits toan and you know andage jump it it proves that he’s just more talented and than any of these waer hitters which may very well be the case like I I know nationally they’re second in runs per game they’re third in batting average 39 Bas that’s very impressive um almost no matter what level of competition you play at but at the same time like G jumps simply more talented than anyone they faced this year so that’s gon to be a massive challenge for them but if they’re up for that challenge then it’s not an automatic win by any means so you believe it’ll be Gage jump on Friday yeah I I can’t say why not um I I mean maybe maybe based on the matchups they’ll they would flip over to Luke hullman but I don’t really under I don’t know I if feel like what they’ve had has been working and um and I and I think you know getting home and ready for UNC probably almost certainly um no offense to Long Island uh but I it would yeah I I think it would probably something like that because I think they should pitch one of their they’re going to pitch one of their top two guys in that game like it would it would be it would shock me if they didn’t um because this game not only is that game so important and you know and uh you need and watford’s no joke like they pitched Paulk against two lane last year and that was kind of the ultimate test for this and uh Jay Johnson showed that he’s still gonna pitch his top guy for that first game so uh I I I think that that that fact alone is is why I think it’s going be one of those top two guys you like their chances this weekend yeah just overall yeah I mean um it it’s it’s it’s really tough because I just I really think North Carolina is one of the best offenses will face all year um like it’s kind of it Parks Harbor is one of the better power hitting first baseman in the country um they have one of the best outfields in the country they’re really good defensively van Tony cut is a is almost any other player in the country he’s you know he’s 20 Homer 20 steals kind of guy you don’t really see that in college baseball so he is yeah that that team is that team is no joke and they have two pretty good starters and a and and a couple options out of the bullpen that um aren’t aren’t nothing to sneeze at either uh I think LSU has the more talented pitching staff you can see that in the strikeout rates you can see that in some of the more advanced metrics like fif but at the same time like this is this is going to be very very difficult for them I I think if I had to pick a team it would be North Carolina to win the regional just because they they’ve just Pro proven it the whole year they’re really well-rounded there’s not a lot of bowls to pick at with that with that club and they’re at home um but if LSU won the regional would wouldn’t shock me at all like these are two teams that are definitely talented enough to make the Omaha it’s just a matter of you know who plays better on that day but I do think if elsu wins the first two games they’re in very good shape though um North Carolina they don’t really have a great number three starting option it’s probably Iden hay um and even then that probably doesn’t matter a whole ton because you know they will throw that guy against probably Watford and assuming if they lost to LSU right and then LSU would have the extra day of bre even though even though LSU wouldn’t be in a great spot pitching wise they’d be in a better spot than what North Carolina is is at and uh North Carolina they haven’t thrown a lot of guys in AC play so I which is kind of interesting they’ve only started they only started four different guys in ACC play which is like kind of blows my mind given all the different guys that have started for LSU and for all these other teams but um when it comes to but like once you get underneath the belly of their Bullpen I’m I don’t really know what they have that could that really scares you and I that’s really with every team but that’s I think that’s GNA be especially important because they’ve relied on you know maybe six or seven guys including the starters this year and that’s about it so I’m I I’m just I don’t know it’s going to be a very fascinating match up and I think winning these two first first two games is gonna be absolutely critical for allu glad you made it up there really appreciate some time enjoy the baseball this weekend and safe travels back home awesome thanks so much hunt he’s k r LS beat reporter for The Advocate I’ll add this on top of what K had to say there about wford um I think jump makes more sense as I start to think about it as well because um wford while their offensive numbers are great um one of the things they do a lot is steal and if you put jump out there there left-handed with malazzo behind the plate it’s just going to be tough for them to do that a lot you can go first move and might steal a base or two here but it just becomes a difficult thing to do and I think when you’re looking at righty Lefty splits Watford in North Carolina neither is predominantly one-handed of course they have more right-handed hitters that’s just the way that it goes but I think um I think jump makes a lot of sense for the running game of wford uh coming up on on Friday so we shall see but appreciate K giving us a little bit of time Lincoln riy is he scared we’ll talk talk about that in 15 minutes when we come back it is what if 1045 ESPN Baton Rouge [Music] this is the hunt Palmer show on 1045 ESPN Baton Rouge half that work week in the rear viw Mir it is a Wednesday edition of The Hunt Palmer show thanks for hanging out with us got a busy second hour today we’ll chat with Sharie aack from Saints OTAs at 2:15 Ronnie rants coming at the bottom of hour number two the rugaru crank up tomorrow and we’ll talk some LSU baseball with Ronnie as well but for now it’s what if Wednesday time space reality it’s more than a linear path where a single Choice can Branch out into Infinite realities follow me and Ponder the [Music] question what [Music] if all right first one here what if you could either sing the seventh inning stretch at Wrigley or throw out the first pit B uh we’re going to go sing the seventh inning stretch there I think I’m expected to be terrible at that plus I think it would be really fun yeah um throwing out the first pitch while going on the field would be awesome like you can kind of embarrass yourself with a terrible throw and I don’t know the last time I threw a a real baseball well you could practice before I could um so I mean I have full confidence that I can I can throw a ball to another person over there but I think singing the 17 stretch would be more fun one and less of a chance of embarrassment because you’re expected to be terrible anyway so I’m going to go with the single s ining stretch I have to agree with you there moving on what if you could take any player from today and put them into the same league in 1945 okay the first thing that came to my mind was V Victor womman Yama um I think that would be hilarious to watch those guys that were like bouncing the ball out in front of them and like shooting from the floor and watch like a 7 fo4 guy like fly through the air and we saw that though we pretty much saw that with like wit Chamberlain and Bill Russell whenever that I mean they they play later in the NBA but wom Yama shoots threes and true they have threes back so it hook shots and whatnot and I yeah so that’s true um I I I think about like the the physicality of football and like some of these Edge rushers that I think would be a significant problem for offensive tackles who were what like 65 260 um like Aaron Donald going against cers from that age would be really something to watch uh and then from like a baseball perspective I mean I we were talking about Mason Mo the other day the A’s closer who nobody can hit today he’s just striking everyone out not walking anybody his numbers are are absurd so he would just do the same thing to all those guys in the 40s uh so that’s not as fun but maybe like from a power hitting perspective like I mean like Otani is fun to watch in any era yeah but I think as I start to to dive through this it’s like it’s like for me it’s probably Derrik Henry or you know what just thought about Tiger Woods in cuz I don’t have a great perspective for what Pimon clubs and W balls and all that stuff looked like that’s very fascinating yeah um because I think it looks well I know it looks completely different they you would have to play a completely different style base of golf back then than you could now now if you could gave him the equipment for right now then oh all bets are off he shoot a million under um although I feel like the the the courses weren’t as pure nice maybe maybe try to rough it a little bit but I think it’s a foot I think it’s like Derk Henry in his prime or who’s the best pass rusher in the NFL right now um probably is it TJ watt TJ watt maybe I mean I’d like to watch those two guys just like go after the dudes from the 40s like they they’d all get hurt because they don’t have the right equipment on but that’s that’s probably where I’m at all right next one here what if you could pick LSU’s Regional host probably Santa Barbara I I that’s um probably I mean I don’t know how good Arizona is um I I just I have a hard time getting off Santa Barbara I thought there was a chance with Jay’s roots and kind of make sure that LSU didn’t like flood the place that maybe you they would send him out west although you may have a pretty good alumni base in in Los Angeles that would like to go see him but um I think I would I think I would go with Santa Barbara on that one all right last one here what if they outlaw walk ons so this is a story that uh I heard Charlie and Jimmy talking about it it’s all the buzz at uh at SEC uh spring meetings um that they want to get rid of Walk-Ons and I haven’t read a lot about this uh Charlie was talking earlier on live at lunch today but like I don’t understand this this seems like you’re trying to solve a problem that doesn’t exist and I agree that like if you’re looking to cut expenses here there because you having to pay this massive bill that maybe that’s um that’s a place you could go but I I I see it a different way it just hearing this news and I don’t know if this is the case or not hearing this being proposed sounds to me like they don’t want Kirby Smart signing his 28 man class at Georgia but only but you’d have like the top 10 of them or not on scholarship cuz we’re just going to nil those guys so then I can go put more on scholarship like it’s just a way to add more good players because you are not tied up your best players in that 85 scholarship yes you all of a sudden have 105 scholarships because there are no Walk-Ons like if unless you outlaw the Walk-Ons right so like the way this uh the example I gave and this this was not inside sources this actually came out in 2013 LSU’s best two hitters College hitters on that team were Mason cats and Ray ryes and both of them were not on any sort of scholarships which allowed maner to go use his scholarship money on the jacobe Joneses and on the Kevin gosman’s the year before that and on guys who were big- time draft RIS that they brought in because you’ve got two guys on your team that you’re not tying up for scholarships on that’s where I thought this was coming from maybe I’m wrong and maybe there are financial reasons for this it just sounded to me like they didn’t that that they didn’t want the NCAA the powers at B did not want Power five teams signing guys that would automatically be on scholarship festar recruits that aren’t on your 85 scholarships because you’re just paying them with nil that’s what it sounded like to me that makes sense yeah I think it makes sense I yeah I I don’t know I don’t see other or that that’s the only logical reason I could see for them considering this but I mean I know that a lot of a lot a lot of the coaches at SEC uh spring meetings have been pushing back on it and I know a lot of people just just overall look the walk- on experience while I would never do that like is is awesome for some people to be a part of something you you know wouldn’t never have had the opportunity to be a part of if it weren’t for this program and there are very few Walk-Ons that make some huge impact you’re just a glorified tackling dummy who gets to run out of the tunnel and be in team meetings and get your letterman jacket or if you play and like all that kind of stuff like it’s it’s it’s just being part of something and it’s it’s a it’s a unique experience that you wouldn’t get anywhere else and to to to take that away from guys you know is tough but I just again I don’t know if this is a financial thing or if this is a competitive balance thing and I guess that’s that’s the discussion they’re having at the uh at the spring meetings going on over in D all right that’s it for what if Wednesday appreciate you all for uh for playing along there in the B for chat and on Twitter for hitting us up with some of those we could get to uh we’ll close out ESPN Baton Rouge [Music] you’re listening to the hunt Palmer show on 1045 ESPN Baton Rouge so if you were reading the internet today um Saturday down south Matt Hayes with the report from SEC spring meetings that the biggest game of the opening weekend in college football almost never happened and that’s because reportedly Lincoln Riley in Southern California have been attempting to get out of this game with LSU in Las Vegas for two years reportedly they leaned on Fox to help him get out of it because now USC is in the Big 10 and that’s Fox’s Crown Jewel and well we don’t really want you to play in your first game on ABC if you’re now in Fox’s conference and then you’ve got Lincoln Riley using his agent who’s a mutual agent of Brian Kelly try to further that wasn’t happening LSU wasn’t going to budge and Link Riley wanted out now the masses are going to immediately run to this and say oh Lincoln Riley wanted to get away from Oklahoma cuz they were going to the SEC one of the easy schedule out in the Pack 12 he’s running from competition now he’s in the Pack 12 well that dissolved now he’s got to go in the Big 10 there’s some good teams there he’s got LSU he’s running from competition left and right and that’s the easy narrative to just run to and run up the score on Lincoln riy as a lot of teams do offensively um and that’s fine I don’t know I don’t know why Lincoln riy took the USC job is a pretty good job it’s in Los Angeles it’s got incredible tradition a rich recruiting base you’ve got a lot of money out there they offered him a ridiculous contract full of money and and homes and cars and Jet access and like maybe it wasn’t to get out of the SEC maybe it was he just thought that’d be a really nice gig to have maybe he’s trying to get out of the SEC I don’t know and I don’t know exactly why he’s trying to get out of this game but this one sounds a little bit more like I don’t really want to play that cuz we might might lose because you look at the schedule that USC’s got this year and they’ve got some games that are going to be pretty tricky they’ve got a trip up to Washington they’ve got a road game at Michigan they play Wisconsin and Penn State they’ve got Notre Dame and then you add LSU to that and well that’s a little bit tougher and y’all know know how I function y’all know that I was okay with these you know Renta win games that LSU was playing because look if you get through your conference and win all your games like you’re going to be fine and Florida State kind of disproved that because they did schedule LSU out of conference and they did beat Clemson and they did go on the road and beat Florida and they went undefeated won their conference Championship game and the committee still left them out because a quarterback got hurt but that’s not the SEC and I don’t believe the SEC champion and undefeated would have been left out certainly not of a 12 team playoff and I don’t think this new conference that’s got Oregon and Washington and USC in Penn State and Ohio State and Michigan and Wisconsin and I don’t think they’re getting left out either however as losses continue to pile up you will get left out and if you look at USC’s schedule it looks tough enough in conference that if you take care of your business and you go 11- one or 10-2 just like the CC you’ll be fine the problem is if you lose two conference games and the LSU game you may be on the outside looking in and that is where you do start looking at ducking competition hate it or love it think it’s reasonable or cowardly it sounds that way and it’s a big year for Lincoln Riley because you’ve had enough time in Southern California to get your defense to be functional not great functional it has not functioned at any level in Norman Oklahoma or Los Angeles for five years they’ve been atrocious on defense his entire time he finally moved on from his bad defensive coordinator Alex Grinch and they’ve got to fix it however you don’t have the reigning Heisman Trophy winner anymore so well I think most people in college football circles would say that’s a good coach if you don’t have a great quarterback this year and the defense still stinks and your team doesn’t have a very good record and you’re ducking LSU it’s a big PR disaster as you enter this big league where you’re better be ready to lock horns with Ohio State and Michigan and Penn State and some of those teams and to this point Lincoln Riley’s teams outside of one year where they did play Georgia really well in the Rose Bowl but they couldn’t stop him it’s been a little underwhelming outside of winning Heisman Trophies all the time so take this story however you want to take it um I’m not going to be as judgmental of Lincoln Riley because I’m not ready to immediately suggest that he only took that job in LA because he didn’t want to play Alabama and Georgia and I think there’s Merit to his thought that well I don’t really need LSU on this schedule because if I do what I need to do in the Big 10 and I schedule San Jose State instead of LSU I’ll still be okay and I’ve said this many times you don’t have to have that you don’t have to be aligned in that thought with me and Lincoln Riley it it does suggest that I don’t want to play the guys all the time but I’m also o sick as an LSU fan of opening season 0 and one four years in a row because if you don’t lose to Florida state in the Superdome two years ago you’re going to college station playing for a shot to potentially get in the playoff instead you didn’t so Lincoln Riley scaredy cat reasonable schedu maker is still an interesting story that hasn’t been shot down from anybody and Saturday s South asked for some comment got no comment to me sounds like he’s really been trying to get out of this game I don’t really care if he’s trying to get out of it or not I just want LSU to go up to Las Vegas and put together a really game a really good game for the opener and start one and0 for the first time in half a decade that’s the goal at this point you’re looking for LSU football content you can find it all year long at hunt on LSU on YouTube that’s hour number one in the Wednesday edition of The Hunt Palmer show 1045 ESPN Baton Rouge hope your work week is going well starting to work towards the weekend now on the back half of your Wednesday chat with Sharie I Shack and 15 minutes Tano pass pass rusher for the New Orleans Saints defensive end Tor Achilles how big in a deal is that what else has he observed from OAS over the last week or so Ronnie rant coming up in 30 minutes talking some baseball we’ll talk baseball here um I think we’re going to go a number of different ways with this uh mock draft that Kylie McDaniel put out from ESPN because there’s some LSU flavoring it but also I think they’re um is some interesting thing in terms of LSU’s postseason draw to look at here so this is the first mock draft that Kylie’s put out out for the July draft no surprise Charlie Conan going first uh to the Cleveland Guardians Chase Burns is second on that list uh to the Cincinnati Reds Travis bazan who was in the Baton Rouge Regional last year with Oregon State here at number three jack kagon at number four Hagen Smith at number five BR Montgomery at number six like these are all names that you very much know and guys that you’ve dealt with for the last 10 weeks that you don’t have to deal with this weekend LSU represented from a high school perspective a couple of times early in this draft which is not the greatest thing in the world for the LSU program but Conor Griffin uh mocks number 12 here to the Boston Red Sox High School athlete shortstop center field whatever you want to call him but just a Superstar athlete um over in Jackson Mississippi he’s mocked number 12 and cam cametti is mocked number 13 right behind him those guys I don’t think you’re ever going to see in Baton Rouge the only LSU player that is in this mod draft is Tommy White at number 27 um he’s got him mocked to the Philadelphia Phillies still in the first round and I think A lot’s going to be made of Tommy White’s defense this year um and then you’re going to see his Chase rate mentioned which he will do a little bit that uh that Kylie McDaniel mentioned here um Gage Jump’s name is in the players in consideration for the next pick uh for college pitchers you got Luke hulleman and Gage jump uh mentioned here so you’ve got two guys being mentioned in the first round of the major league baseball draft what you don’t see is any North Carolina Tar Hills or wafford Terriers mocked as far as pitching goes in the first round of this draft now Vance Honeycut who’s a stud athlete plays in the outfield for North Carolina and he’s in the next minut up for college position players um said North Carolina center fielder Vance huy cut may sneak into the teens and has some homes in the 20s but I think he will end up in the 30s he’s the only guy in this Regional that shows up in a first round mock now I understand that there are freshman and sophomores that wouldn’t show up in this and I understand that Pro projectability is not a necessity to be a great college player certainly over the course of a regional but there are some guys that are scary around the landscape of college baseball whether it’s Chase Burns whether it’s Hagen Smith whether it’s I mean there are a number of guys that Charlie Conan you want to deal with him over the course of a weekend not not necessarily um so LSU doesn’t catch any of that this coming weekend and by the way Arizona does not have anybody on this list they’re across the way and then West Virginia has JJ weatherholt their shortstop who could be a top five pick in the draft he’s a sensational player um and has been great for his entire time in Morgantown but missed a lot of time this year with injuries so maybe backs up he’s got him mocked at seven here and then you look at Dallas Baptist and they do have uh one pitcher who’s listed in the group with Gage jump and um Luke Heman he’s a right-handed pitcher named Ryan Johnson who’s quote unquote under the radar but that’s you’re either going to see him or JJ weather Hol you won’t see them both if you get to that point I’m suggesting here that you’re not in a pod of players with with Surefire Major Leaguers the the eight teams you’re grouped with that could potentially meet up in a Super Regional LSU is Far and Away the most draft ready team right here right now now North Carolina’s won more games they may have been more complete wford statistically has been better than you playing in the socon Arizona earned the right to host but as I look at an impartial bystander who’s just looking at your draft ability in the next eight weeks LSU has got Tommy White mocked in the first round has got Gage jump and Luke Holeman who were hovering there around 32 and oh by the way if you look further down the list it’s some of these lists Jared Jones pops up I saw a top 150 prospects deal that had him in the 60s so LSU has not been the most complete team to this point they’ve certainly not been the most consistent team at this point and you don’t get to just forget about the fact that you played five weeks of crappy baseball against really good teams that’s why you have to go on the road but the point remains that LSU is a little scary because of what they can present and as we talk about all the time you knew 100% certain that once that field came out an SEC team was not going to be in your Regional and again I’ll run through that top eight Charlie Condon one Chase Burns former SEC at two Jack kagon at four Hagen Smith at five Braden Montgomery at six like that’s that’s those are some dudes that you don’t have to deal with Trey Savage is going to be a first round pick at East Carolina he’s not in your pod you go down to Christian Moore whose name pops up Florida State’s got two names in here remember Brody Breck last year from Iowa he faced that LSU lineup and other than Dylan Cruz that was those were some real uncomfortable at bats could have been paired with them you’re not I’m not trying to diminish what North Carolina’s done this year I’m just suggesting from a a high-end top-end Talent perspective this is what someone says when looking at this class and as I look down the list at dangelo sja from Mississippi State Billy am from Tennessee Dakota Jordan from Mississippi State these are all first round picks you understand what the power of the Southeastern Conference has become and I don’t know if David dushi is right and they’re going to get six teams in Omaha I don’t know if Chris Burke’s right and they’re going to get four teams in no like last year which was the most ever I don’t know if you’re going to have another situation like LSU Florida two times in the last six years like Vanderbilt Mississippi State 3 years ago where two teams play for the national championship what I’m telling you is the best players in America play in the SEC and you don’t have to see them this week and you can’t see them next week either BR mcgomery didn’t start in the SEC Tommy White didn’t start in the SEC they’re here now Billy ACH came from Clemson to the SEC I mean this is not like a one-off situation this is still Jacob Barry this is still Paul SK guys that did not start their career in the SEC that found their way there because that’s where the best ball is being played I’m not telling you anything you don’t know you know the League’s the best and we’ll get a really good taste of just how good North Carolina is this weekend but I I take I’ll be real high strong on Friday just just to be quite honest I can’t turn that off I’m going to be all keyed up on Friday but as I sit here on Wednesday and try to go okay what does this Regional really look like from an objective perspective as objective as I can be Kylie can be pretty objective he doesn’t care about LSU the dudes play in the SEC LSU’s been playing the dudes for 11 weeks the dudes are not going to be in the other Dugout on Friday at noon Eastern they’re not they’re going to be in LSU’s Dugout and you know one of those guys is going to pitch and you’re damn sure Tommy White’s gonna be sitting there in the two- hole so wford lace him up let’s go play I’ll preview a lot of North Carolina coming up on tomorrow’s show what do you got back it’s also worth noting that Catholic High pitcher William Schmidt is listed in the High School pitcher section as a guy who might not go in the top 30 but would get a top 30 bonus most like so that is a little bit of a better uh better result I guess you would expect as opposed to him being named in the top 30 uh so maybe maybe that’s maybe there’s a chance we’ll see no I believe there is a chance I believe it’s shrinking yeah that’s I mean he’s just as um every case is different bregman broke his finger Cruz struck out a lot and had Co the co situation and then they have a high number too yeah and and so you know you never know why guys end up making the decision that they do um but there there is a history obviously of Catholic High pitchers going to LSU so helps I do know his family really likes LSU you do they like LSU more than that many dollars we’ll see we’ll see how many dollars that is um but yeah it’s um I just I’m fascinated by this kind of stuff and we’ll certainly spend a lot of time in July talking about the draft and talking about how things could shake out but this is just kind of a snapshot of like okay where are the best players in the country playing this week and they’re not generally playing in the other Dugout from LSU so all right that’s a baseball breakdown brought to you by Pluckers when we come back Sharie aack Saints had that one big game against the GI when he had three sacks but you need you can’t afford to lose any rotational players along that defensive line and he did more than just you know sacks and he opened up tolls for the other players and good like he’s a good leader nice guy uh really smart um it’s it’s it’s a loss you know it really is a loss hunt and they’re already without Chase young until some point in the training camp so now they’re GNA be without Tano until at least what maybe five six seven games into the season so the question remains like do they need need to add if you’re uncertain about both of those like you don’t know exactly when pass can be back you don’t know exactly when Chase young is going to be ready like do they need to add at that spot yeah I’d like to see them add like a veteran it’d be nice to see them as some veteran go find somebody before training camp or during training camp specifically I would think after mandatory mini camp um in two weeks go out there and find you somebody before you start training camp you you got to get another veteran in there’s he’s going to miss at least the first four or six so yeah I mean you definitely need to make some additions there question is can Isaiah fosy be of any use um the reviews on him were unanimous early in training camp last year like this guy’s got a long way to go but I did read yesterday that things maybe got a little bit better in in OTAs as much as you can tell with defensive lineman doing work at this point do you have confidence that fosy can be of assistance without those two guys uh well he’s got to show me man he’s just got to show it during during the regular season and preseason I mean practice is it’s all fun in games whenever you’re not wearing pads and you’re out there in shorts and a jersey and a helmet it’s got to be done whenever it’s the red lights on and he just hasn’t shown it he really hasn’t shown it yet he’s got the he’s got the build he’s got the ability to do it I mean it was aome at Notre Dame now he’s just got to show glimpses of that now now that Paso is out so I I I really like I I I want to root for him I want him to do well he’s a second round pick I mean you need the production from him to help that offensive line coming off the defensive line coming off the edge just he if this isn’t a wakeup call for him I just don’t know it’s just like Trevor Penning it’s got to be a wakeup call for you since you’re a second round pick let’s start talking about uh let’s keep talking about I should say the the defensive front Brian breaze I thought had a nice first year in in black and gold what have you seen from him it’s funny when you ask about the defensive line because they work so far away from our eyes uh at the Saints facility but you get the watch a little bit of them whenever they do like team drills and like I said it’s so hard to do like to to like really explain how good they can be or how bad things are going because of how not bad but I like him I like what he’s done he he’s got a great attitude man that’s the one thing great attitude great motor and it seems like he’s so invested in the game of football and I told you last year if he got around five sacks four to six sacks I think it would be a great rookie year and I think he did exactly that now he’s just got to build up on that and show everyone that he is you know a a dynamic defensive lineman and I I truly think he is going to be like Sheldon rankings good do you think he will play the most snaps of any Saints interior defensive lineman next year if he’s healthy yes okay without a doubt I think I think Brian ber will play more snaps and I think he might play more snaps than anyone on the entire defensive line if you’re gonna really ask me that question okay I mean that’s fair that’s that’s what you would expect I didn’t expect that from him as as as a rookie that’s why you went and signed two interior defensive players and you had Saunders and Shepard to to you kind of break him in but now it’s it’s time to go oh absolutely I mean you you you’re young and you’re hungry and you are the guy they picked in the first round so yeah you better you better be ready to go and go strong and and make sure that you know you’re out on the field pretty much the entire season I I I’ve had faith in this guy that he can probably play more in anybody on that defensive line all right I that’s kind of the lead I guess youve got an injury like you did to pass but the the obvious situation is is offensively with all the change and shifting that’s going on over there what have you been able to glean about Clint kubak system how Derek Carr is acclimating to it and and all that goes into that I I want to just talk about what ton Hill said about the his role in that offense now you know it’s a learning experience for him you know he spent the first Seven Years Learning you know Shawn pton and ke k Michael’s offense for all those years that he and now he’s like switching to a different you know verbiage and offense and he likes it I mean you got to think what Clint came from you know the US cheeks and the KD and the Debo Samuel I mean he just loves that you know ability to learn he loves to be challenged he said he he’s glad to be challenged by Clint kubac and the new coaches and I I think like you could tell he had a big smile in his face yesterday just even talking about his role in that offense he knows it’s going to take some time but he feels like he’s going to evolve in the offense and be able to be a little dangerous little more dangerous and uh even more unique in that offense so I took a lot from talking to Tes we all of us are talking to tast him and just you could just see the smile in his face from most of that nine minute interview we had with him yesterday I mean look they’re not going to come in and tell you yeah this offense is terrible like I can’t figure this out this sucks but do you sense a sense of uh renewed you know belief in their offense when you talk to players and coaches yeah you know it’s fresh it’s something new and you get like a a different perspective and a different fresh ideas you know it was getting stale with Pete right we we said it all last year it became still they were still trying to run Drew Brees’s offense with Derek C it didn’t work so now you bring in you know the more modern day offense you know caught up to you know 2024 offense you gotta you know adapt and change and that’s exactly what Clint kubak is going to bring and everyone seems happy for the for the players who are actually there seemed pretty happy uh be good to have Alvin chra in the building to you know help the offense a little bit more and get more acclimated to the offense but yeah everyone is you know happy everyone seems refreshed Trevor pitting report well yeah he talked for the first time yesterday too uh about his you know move to right tackle from left tackle uh he said he had been practicing it during the offseason in Frisco with a with an offensive line coach so Duke Manny weather so that’s what he said he spent good portion of the offseason working with him and it’s it was a phone call from Dennis Allen Clean Slate look forget about everything that happened in the past two years we’re going to get you out there on our right side and hope you know it works for you and and if it works it’s a home run for them they don’t fail on their first round pick but man I be honest with you it’s trending bus I mean I know we still have time to see what happens during training camp but those first two seasons it was trending bus for him so he’s got to wake up he truly has to get it going he has to wake up and he has to be a significant significant part of that offensive line because got some holes there hunt you know they got some holes there without Ryan RAM and who knows they’re gonna play the other guard position right now they’re running salivary at ju guard position and you got pinning at right tackle so it’s got to work man for pinning this is Boomer bus time it’s time to go for him he’s sure High Shack WDSU down in New Orleans talking All Things New Orleans Saints but before we let you go El you’re going to go to ch Hill and win a regional come on man we’re so hot right now like Zander lost Sunday I don’t care I mean look dude they went how many games they play five games in a row yeah I mean look they ran out of pitching and almost still won without the pitching I mean Nasty Nate was awesome I mean everyone who came in behind him they they pitched well just couldn’t hit against Tennessee I really I was I was a little surprised that it was a 4-3 game I thought we’d see a lot more offense but I would feel pretty good if I were Jay Johnson and the Tigers after that performance and you know getting hot at the right time I don’t know much about UNCC but I just feel like UNCC just never does it I mean it’s not that good of a team to me not haven’t really historically been a good program we’ll see how do we get you uh how do we get you sent over to dtin for the SEC meetings you need to be you need to have your toes in the sand uh you know I’d like to work on my tan a little bit more I would love that so yeah take get me there sign me up somebody get me to Destin we’re gonna get you to Omaha in about three weeks how’s that uh I’ll take Omaha you know how much you know how much I love that trip I do appreciate the time Sharie anytime hunt Shar High Shack WDSU down in New Orleans talking all things Saints all we’re gonna have a practice with our team coming up um here in just a little bit and so fields in great shape and uh we’re looking forward to a great season tomorrow night 7 o’clock what kind of what kind of stuff you got for the fans out there look I’ve called a few of the games it’s uh it’s not just a baseball facility with the game going on you got plenty to do over there absolutely you know we’ve got a Kids Zone where we have two inflatable fun jobs so all the kids just comes absolutely free you know in the ballpark you know they just sign a release and they can jump away and burn up all that energy I tell you what the thing they love more than the fun jump is chasing foul balls and I know we go through about three dozen foul balls a game and they run after him and fight for those foul balls all over the ballpark uh and raising canes is a sponsor they got their logo on the ball so that’s pretty cool and then we’ve got for the you know for the grown-ups we’ve got ice cold tall ones we got all sorts of domestic Imports you name it uh cold beer nothing better than uh you know peanuts in the Shell you crack the shells you drink the cold beer watch some baseball and uh the game start at seven and the way the sun sets in the west and the way this ballpark position it’s a shaded got a roof over the top sunsets in the west behind you so it’s really nice environment after 7 o’clock at night and uh you know wood bat it’s the G way the game was intended to be played you know it’s it’s not the Dink and of the aluminum it’s a wood bat it’s professional baseball with college players uh in the summer from all over the country uh we’ve got entertainment in between every inning literally every inning we’ve got entertainment going on down on the field uh with a lot of interaction with the fans and uh during Fridays we have uh the Jerry Lane Chevrolet uh fireworks show so during the seventh inning stretch it’s not just the things Take Me Out to the Ball Game we actually stopped the game for five minutes have an awesome firework show it’s fantastic for for the kiddos and and adults alike if I’ve enjoyed my time there and just signed up to call some games earlier with Mr kryan earlier today I know that a couple years ago last year said y’all got you’re a little late to the party roster building I anticipated that this year y’all got a little bit out in front of that yeah absolutely I feel really good James Dillard is our our head coach it’s first year head coach for us but he’s a veteran of the summer collegiate baseball World he’s a high school coach over in Texas but in the summertime for years he’s been coaching college baseball all over the country and Alaska and Northern uh up in Ohio and but mostly he’s SP in the Texas collegia League and he’s won championships in this league he’s an assistant and a head coach so he knows how to put together the roster and also how to manage it you know because you have guys in the summertime especially pitchers you might have this guy can throw 25 Innings or this guy’s working to only be a reliever or this guy only going to get seven starts and so you have to manage a little bit of the In-N-Out with some of the pitching and that’s sort of a challenge that you don’t have to deal with in the spring and he’s excellent at it looking to go out to Pete’s Golds being catch the rugaru you can check out the website BR rugaru dcom for the schedule and walk up it’s great great opportunity all summer long to watch a little college baseball here in Baton Rouge Ronnie does a fantastic job with with all of it LSU fighting tigers is going to go up to uh to Chapel Hill uh and play on Friday how much different do you feel about this team today than you did five weeks ago w wow I mean it’s I mean isn’t it like 19 isn’t it like 2008 all over again I mean it really is I mean I mean minus the 23 in a row which was crazy and it was a record at the time um but no it really is kind of like that season though you know you you know at realistically five weeks ago four weeks ago we’re thinking this team’s not in postseason you know this team they had to sweep Old Miss in my opinion to to to be a lock to get into the NCAA tournament with 13 and 17 and they did which is incredible I mean they hadn’t swept anybody all year the 10th week of the year they finally sweep an opponent so that was a low percentage play uh and then they went on a great run and you know it was the old format double elimination you never know but it was it’s just a a they’re a different team and they’ve got two stud dominant pitchers they finally have roles for their relievers the offense uh you know has got some guys just in Fuego right now with myum and and and and white and and you know Jones just continues to hit bomb after bomb so they have an identity I feel like and and some consistency on the mound and in their lineup how do you feel about those roles for the levers outside of Herring I think the first time they got a chance to go win a ball game he’s coming in but where do you think the other guys kind of fit well I think they find they have a lot of confidence in Gavin gri right now you know um you know last year he was like a surprise uh they had injuries they had guys not doing well they were just desperate for anybody and he gave him some good moments last year um but now he he’s been super dominant at times and so I think they they like him in a lot of different roles I think they have faith in him and closing as well as bringing him in the middle of the game so he’s somebody that that they that they definitely I think believe in you know aenh Housen uh has pitched in a lot of different roles closed long relief starter um and and obviously the two and a third Innings that he pitched last time around with the best two and a third he thrown probably his a tiger so uh he’s he’s hitting the stride about right now and then everybody else is a little bit of a I don’t know maybe a 50-50 coin flip um but the way that Jay Johnson’s managing the the bullpen it’s kind of like you know you’re you’re in there for an inning you know in the first sign of trouble you’re out and uh I think part of that is because most of them haven’t shown the the you know haven’t earned that credit you know having earned the ability to work through some things uh but uola is a guy that I I know it’s been up and down but I just somehow think his stuff is too good he’s 93 95 he’s got a good breaking ball he’s a veteran guy his heartbeat is a little bit slow I I wouldn’t be surprised if uola somehow gives them some good Innings and and maybe comes on the scene like a thatcher herd did a year ago let me give a big picture for a second Ronnie if I could you played in an era where Fullerton and USC and Long Beach and witch to State and a lot of those teams were good year in and year out from all over the country and I just did a mock draft thing with the first round and it’s just all SCC guys and LSU’s played in the middle of that for 11 weeks now and now they’re coming out of it a little bit um do do you think that they are more prepared and maybe have an advantage and that the talent level is going to dip with everybody they play until they get to Omaha because of what the SEC has become in this era of college baseball well there’s no question that they’re more they’re prepared you know they they the toughest league in the country is not an overstatement um it is a dog fight each and every week anybody can beat anybody you know even the Missouri and Auburn uh you know Missouri took two out of three from Florida Missour me swept them that’s right uh you know they they beat LSU you know they’re D they were dangerous uh Auburn you know is is a guy that can beat you they obviously took one from the Tigers so and and there’s no question in my mind uh and no disrespect to say the rag and cun but do you really think ul’s better than auburn you know I I I think if you put Auburn in in the in the sunbell conference they might do about the same so it it’s just you can’t take the 13th 14th Place team in a league they just they haven’t gotten there yet to be able to say that um but but no are they prepared yes uh but also at the same time though they’re taking on everybody’s best you know even though they Haven played wford they’re gonna face wford best and and just like in high school baseball colleges at at any level they’ve got one or two guys you know they might not have seven guys they might not be able if you lined up LSU’s one through 10 pitchers or one through 10 hitters they don’t have that but they got one or two of each and so it only takes one game we’ll see you ad of a gosby All Summer Long Ronnie thanks for some time hey hun really appreciate the support for the rugaru look forward to you on the call with Tommy Chan thanks for Pinch hitting I appreciate it absolutely he Ronnie rant owner of the Baton Rouge rugaru they’ll be out there tomorrow first pitch 7 o’clock if you want to check out some baseball as we mentioned before if you’re just a baseball PE that loves it it’s it’s it’s High Level Baseball it’s college baseball but you also if you have a kiddo that likes some baseball and maybe doesn’t want to lock in for nine innings but wants to go do the bounce house and eat some peanuts and while you drink something cold it’s a great opportunity to spend some time with the family out there and it’s really really affordable sometimes it can get a little pricey going to see the pels or LSU football or even going out to the box at times not in Texas Collegiate summer league you can do it really really affordably all summer long so Ronnie does an awesome job and we appreciate him giving us a Hill we’ll have Joe he from D1 baseball they’ve previewed all the Regionals over there specifically on his side of things the SEC angles we’ll talk about that as well as what he expects to see up in Chapel Hill may try to get deui on tomorrow as well because Friday is just kind of going to be up in the air like it’s an 11 o’clock first pitch our time we’re on the air at one I would imagine if it’s a traditional game it’ll end right about the Midway point of our show and we’ll certainly react to it at the end but if there’s some sort of weather or it’s a slugfest or you know whatever the case may be and it may run through the show on Friday Friday is just completely up in the air so tomorrow is really our last look at this Regional um to preview it maybe reacting to things on tomorrow’s on a Friday’s show but that uh that remains to be seen so looking forward to that Paul SK just now taking the mound up in Detroit for his Pittsburgh Pirates back I was looking at the Pirates lineup I was looking for jav bayz you could just go ahead and pencil him in for the golden Sombrero if he was in the lineup he’s not in the lineup today so that’s probably wise move from Detroit I don’t know if he’s hurt or not or whatever but he would have no chance against SK at this point he’s striking out way too much so they decided you know we’ll go ahead and not put him out there against the guy that throws 103 so we’ll see what skin can do in this I guess his fourth outing as a uh Detroit Pitts fourth or fifth I’m not sure exactly but it’ll probably be a good one yes the tigers are not great so we’ll see uh but for now let’s play some take or leave it all right first one here Stephen A Smith says he’s cons concerned for the future of sports media saying where the hell are we going Stephen A has been part of the downfall take it or leave it I’ll leave it I mean Stephen A was a a reporter for the Philadelphia Inquirer he was and a good one by all accounts um I don’t like that style of show I don’t like to listen to him on those shows I don’t like to listen to skip balis on those shows I don’t like to listen to Shannon sharp on those shows I don’t really like to listen to Mad Dog so yell and scream on those shows like they have I don’t watch them but it shows up on my social media feeds cuz I get a lot of sport stuff in there when Mad Dog puts together some stupid list that’s just wrong so that Stephen A and him can yell at each other about it like that’s not interesting to me at all um but I think the downfall of quote unquote Sports media is not Stephen A Smith yelling at 10:00 in the morning about the Dallas Cowboys um it’s the fact that everyone is now in the media everyone has access to everyone so when we cover things now we’re doing it with whoever Joe sidewalks you know cell phone that he captured something on and everyone can comment on things via Facebook and Twitter and you can’t trust anybody to be correct anymore like you could 50 years ago because you can just put whatever you want on social media and it’s all an echo chamber and like everything’s been watered down because everyone is in the media I don’t care about the shock jocks I don’t find them interesting but that’s not the issue the issue is that everyone’s all everywhere all the time and I do also think that part of it along with the social media aspect of it is that you’ve got all these guys who are insiders trying to be the first person to have a scoop and a lot and not a lot of times but there are times where there are guys that are just trying to get something way too quickly and they haven’t really corroborated the sources on it and they they will say something that is ronia so you can’t necessarily always trust what they’re putting out there well you can monetize click you’re or C more important to people click on it it is to actually be correct now if you do it too many times and completely lose all credibility then you’ve gone too far but there’s something to be said where you got to try to be a shock jock to get people to click on your YouTube video and like I just I’m not going to do that all right moving on here charges against world number one Scotty Sheffer were dropped this morning take it or leave it got to take it um I I his um attorney Roman says that they stowing numerous eyewitness accounts and testimonies that Scotty Sheffer never drugged this cop yeah now that’s his attorney talking so I’ll take that for what it’s worth but there’s no video of him dragging the cop and we today got video of him talking to the policeman when he’s in handcuffs in the car and Scotty’s nothing but respectful and calm and does not drop that I’m Scotty Sheffer like the only thing you heard him say was I was really late for my tea time which would have been a hint to some cop that hey this guy is supposed to be in the tournament but like he also said like you you drug the guy and he’s got scrapes and he’s getting treated by EMS I’ll be really honest with you I mean I realize that I’m younger than most cops cuz I’m younger than most professionals period at 35 36 but if I skinned my knee I don’t know that I’m getting looked at by EMS I that’s just kind of where I am on this this feels like based on the evidence that we have seen a massive misunderstanding and overreaction is what it feels like yeah I don’t see how anyone else can view it otherwise because there’s no body cam footage and the only video we have is Scotty Sheffer pulling away as a cop is kind of like running towards his car and he stops as soon as he sees him and starts talking to him from there so I don’t really know how else to view it uh it it is it is going to be uh probably the biggest story in golf this year although it seems to me that it’s really a non-story at this point yeah I think I mean the only way it becomes a story is if he goes and wins the US Open and then they go well you robbed us of a chance to the Grand Slam because he shot 66 On th Thursday was it Thursday Friday he he got back after he got released yeah and then on Saturday threw up and then he played well again on Sunday so yeah I mean I you know that that makes it a story again yeah and by the way he actually finished Todd for second the last tournament last weekend so he he is going to be fine uh last one here the Timberwolves will be the first team ever to come back from 3 0 down they won last night it’s now 3-1 take it or leave it I’m going to leave it because that’s the way you have to do but I’m not ruling it out no I’m not ruling it out I don’t think the mads are infallible I don’t think they’re way better than the Timberwolves and I think the Timberwolves are good it’s going to be difficult obviously because like LSU baseball you put yourself in that big a hole it basically has to go perfect the rest of the way um and for them one Alex milazo throw wide to first base is going to spell Doom but um it’s I’m not going to rule it out like do you think they can do it I yeah they can do it of course yeah they absolutely absolutely can do it it can be done there have been teams that are down three that could have done it too they just didn’t but the Timberwolves I think are equipped to do it they’ve got two Allstars they got two two top 10 players in the NBA maybe top 15 but Anthony Edwards has played better than almost any one of the playoffs this this uh so far this year carony towns got had a good game last night so the only thing is they they have to just hope that they can slow down LCA Don because if Luca goes out there and drops 40 it’s going to 40 Point triple double yeah it’s going to be it’s going to be almost impossible for for them to to combat that other than Anthony Edwards having 40 so it’s going to be it’s going to be tough but is it worth a sprinkle on the series line I’d be interested to see what the line is for that but it it could be worth a shot but I I would I would not uh I would not put too much money on it all right that’s it for take it or leave it here on this Wednesday opened up the show today um talking about wford and their pitching numbers specifically their Ace sack Allen and
