[Music] good afternoon welcome to Emporia Kansas for the 2024 NCAA division 2 men’s and women’s outdoor track and field championships three days of great track and field coverage we’ve already started begun events we’ve already had a few events finals but we are getting ready to begin our preliminary events on the track we’re going to have our men’s 4×100 met relay coming up just a minute or two they are already on the track that’ll be followed by our women’s 4X 100 m relay and then of course a whole evening of competition here on Zola Whitten track in Welch stadium in Emporia Kansas this is Emporia State’s fourth time hosting the NCAA division 2 track and field Championship so they’ve done it here before and not only are we excited to be here we are excited to have all of you joining us for this weekend’s national championships looks like we are getting ready for this 4X 100 m Relay For The Men We are going to run Heats qualifying the top two in each heat plus the next four fastest to the finals here are your lane assignments as the gun is now Up Academy of Arts is going to be in lane two Minnesota state in three Finley in four Pittsburgh state in five West Texas A&M is in Lane six Alabama hunts and as I said the gun is up West Texas A&M out of Lane six they are the defending Champions and they have two returners on this team team to beat may be in the middle of the track pit State they were fifth last year but do have the fastest qualifying time in this section and it looks like we’re going to have have a reset there as Minnesota state leadoff Runner is not quite ready so he holds his hand up and the starters see him so they’ll bring everybody up and let them shake it out and then get ready for a secondary start to this race again we’re going to have two heats the top two will automatically advance to the final along with the next four fastest times and this final is scheduled for 2:00 on Saturday afternoon beautiful day here so far in deoria Kansas not quite sure of the temperature but uh sun has been shining not too much wind earlier in the day although it did pick up we just finished our men’s long jump and I believe that many of those marks were wind dated wind is blowing from south to [Music] North again keeping our eyes on Lanes five and six although once the teams are seated by heat the lanes are drawn by lot and there’s going to be a recall on that start looks like West Texas A&M may have flinched at the start and it looks like a green card is being held up to Alabama Huntsville in Lane seven so a green is just a warning so generally what that means is that the runner did not hear the command to come set and was late getting set and the assistant starter who is just behind him there noticed that and so recalled the race to make sure everybody does get a fair start of course this is track and field at its most basic form if somebody does jump they will be disqualified otherwise we would be here all day with athletes trying to jump the start but just a warning there so Lane seven with a warning they will not get another warning so we will try for the third time to start this men’s 4X 100 met relay Pittsburgh state in Lane five not only a team to beat in this event but also in our men’s team overall standings and we are away and it is a clean start this time and as they head to the South curve stagger all looking pretty even that is Finley in lane four maybe with a slight lead but pit state has made up the Stagger now as they head down the backstretch this track is clearly marked with the yellow running area and the black relay exchange zans so that does help for everybody to see there exchange ons are clean and it will be pit State and outside of pit state that is West Texas A&M so the teams we thought May finish first and second in this heat they do West Texas A&M will cross the line first pit State second so they will take the two automatic qualifier spots te West Texas a& 989 and of course that will put Albany State Alabama Huntsville Minnesota state and Finley on the bubble Finley got out with a quick start in that lane first leg they will finish at 4.38 and they will be the bubble team as we get ready now for Heat number two and athletes in Heat number two just making their way down towards the starting line at this time which does give us a chance to expand on our welcome a little bit to those of you who are watching this year’s National Championships Emporia Kansas this is the fourth time that Emporia State University here has hosted the NCAA division 2 national championships and as we always look at the statistics and our returning Champions we can definitely look at our returning Team Champions as we get ready for this year’s meet last year in the men’s side pit state was our winner and not only did they win the championship last year the Pittsburgh state men defended their team title from the year before so they are looking for a three peat this year and if the indoor meet is any indication pit state is the team to beat as they won indoor Nationals this year which was held in Pittsburgh Kansas on the track last year West Texas M was second place and Adam state from Colorado was your third overall Place finisher on the men’s side and on the women’s side our defending Champion is isua Pacific they scored 66 points last year Minnesota state was second with 57 and West Texas A&M was third on the women’s side with 49 points Adam state was our indor champion on the women’s side but that did come down to the very last race of the meet Adam State finished with 67 points and pit State on their home track the lady gorillas 64.5 and Minnesota state was third with 54 points so we’ll try and keep you apprised all weekend long of the team standings today just a few events go final obviously day one we begin with our multis and our decathlon and our heptathlon are halfway through we’ll give you some updated results later on those we have had field event finals the men’s hammer throw and the men’s long jump are complete our women’s pole vault competition along with our women’s Hammer thrower are underway right now women’s long jump scheduled to begin a little bit later this evening and of course tonight we will finish our television coverage our live stream coverage at 8:10 with the men’s 10,000 MERS and that’ll be followed at 8:50 p.m. central Time with our women’s 10,000 M but it looks like the lane are set now for Heat number two on the track we’re going to have Chadron State out of Nebraska in two Cal Poly Pomona in three Central Missouri in four Grand Valley State in five tiffen in Lane six and Northwest Missouri in Lane 7 again the bubble time to beat is 40. 38 and the top two will automatically Advance the gun is up for Heat number two in our men’s 4X 100 [Music] m our next event will be the women’s 4X 100 meter relay and that is scheduled for a 500 PM start central time so should be right on schedule and here we go with our second heat on the track this is the men’s 4X 100 met relay Central Missouri out quickly for the lead off leg and on the inside of the track they do have the lead as their athletes read down the back stretch 4 by one 100 m relay usually tough to tell until you get to the top of the the final curve and as they come off the curve and get a good idea of who is in the lead and on the outside that is Northwest Missouri and moving Central Missouri Northwest Missouri they will take the automatic qualifying spots Central Missouri will win it at 3967 that’ll be the overall fastest time of our qualifiers Northwest Missouri is going to be second at 3970 and as the rest of the teams are getting their times we’ll give you an update on who our automatic qualifiers are going to be along with our team qualifiers we know Central Missouri Northwest Missouri West Texas A&M and pit state are in they each finished in the first two spots in their heat so they will advance to Saturday’s final and it does look like unofficial Alabama Huntsville Minnesota state and Grand Valley State will take the final time qualifier at 4013 again the finals for this event are scheduled for 2:00 on Saturday you can follow along with the live scoring live results through the you can access those easily through the NCAA website if you navigate through the track and buttons you will get to the uh splash page that will take you direct to a link of live results you’ll be able to see every Mark every throw every jump as they happen in real time scoring our officials all with tablets at the field event so you can keep track of field event competition with each attempt and on the track you are free to follow along and get the results just as quickly as we do up here in the Press Box you can see the race on your screen but you can also follow along on the website to get those official times especially if you are looking for your own individual athletes to see if they’re getting their personal best season the west and of course advancing to the finals next event on the track is our women’s 4X 100 same rules here in that the automatic qualifiers will go to heat winners but for the women’s side we’re going to run three Heats so that generally means that there was a tie for our qualifying spots or for any reason we have an additional team and D have to go to three Heats and so for the women’s 4×1 we will have three Heats and that does still mean the top two will get in so if you are in the top two in your heat you’re automatically in but for the women’s race only the top two fastest thirds will get get in so three Heats here and setting their blocks now and making their Lane assignments you see in lane two there that is Minnesota state they were second last year they’ll be in lane two in our first heat this year Southwest Baptist is going to be in Lane three UCCS University of Colorado at Colorado Springs will be in four isua Pacific in five Fresno Pacific will be in Lane six and sagov Valley will be in Lane seven so some of the top teams from last year the athletes change but in general good teams recruit good athletes and so our top relay teams do tend to make it to the finals each year so Minnesota state in lane two they were second last year and in this heat we’ve got isusa Pacific they were fourth last year and Fresno Pacific was fifth last year and just like you do if you are following Along on your live results sheet you can see the athletes that are scheduled to be running each coach must turn in a relay card they can they can put up to six names on a relay card so we never know exactly who is running which leg without being there right down there on the track it looks like Lane five did not have a baton or or at least switching out the Baton which is needed for as fast as each athlete is around the track it is the Baton that counts but again if we’re looking at Minnesota state right now their second athlete scheduled to run Denisha cartright who has proven to be one of the dominant performers in women’s Sprints here running for Minnesota state multi medalist over her four years years of course as a senior this year we will give you upto-date medal totals as the Championships continue in these athletes run but she is scheduled to be running second for Minnesota state out of lane two they’re the team to keep an eye on also Fresno Pacific running out of Lane six with a fast qualifying time this year both Minnesota state and Fresno Pacific with times under 448 and we are clean away and quickly you see Minnesota state picking up the Stager and following with those teams on the outside that is Fresno Pacific in six so the two favorites with the early leads Minnesota state with not a great exchange [Music] there we do see a yellow flag over at the first exchange and that may not bode well for Minnesota state but we will not know until the conclusion of this race but on the track that is Lane six that is Fresno Pacific and moving up on the inside of them will be ausa pacific and as they cross the line it will be Fresno Pacific and isusa Pacific taking the first two spots but again did see a yellow flag up on that first exchange that does not necessarily mean that a team is going to be disqualified it means that the official saw a potential violation most of our exchange zones in fact all of our exchange zones with multiple sets of eyes so very very few infractions are ever just the decision of one official they do consult and we will keep you up to date when we hear any results from that yellow flag but across the line Minnesota state was second Sagen Valley was third and if those results hold up 458 will be the bubble time for sagov Valley Heat number two now making their way to their exchange zones and the starting blocks the athletes here all checking in with the clerk on the northwest curve of the track and then they break to their exchange zones with our first and second legs walking the the home stretch and as our first legs stop to set their blocks that second leg will continue around the curve and they will set their blocks again we started our meet today the sun was out but since we’ve been underway do have some cloud cover this time that is going to tone down the Sun a little bit but shouldn’t do too much for the temperature the wind looks like it has picked up just a little bit more you can see the flags on top of the Press Box there blowing a little bit in the wind a beautiful facility here at Emporia State University this stadium was refurbished and the track was rebuilt in 2016 so it is 8 years old and again in the exchange zones with the each exchange Zone being in a solid black and of course more recently with the change in the exchange zones don’t have to worry about that acceleration Zone anymore and the little diamonds and the big diamonds they know that the entire in this case the entire black painted section of the track being our exchange Zone so as they’re getting set now for Heat number two we are scheduled to see West Texas A&M they will be in Lane number two Alabama Huntsville in three New Mexico Highlands is in lane four Mount Olive will be in Lane five Len oine will be in Lane six and Finley will be out there in Lane seven [Applause] so this is Heat number two again the top two will automatically advance and then the next fastest times just checking our temperature here and Poria State inia Kansas registering at 84° as we start our evening events yeah really and I would say that’s if not normal for this time of year here in Kansas that is little bit above normal From the Inside Out West Texas A&M Alabama Huntsville New Mexico Highlands Mount Olive Leno Ry and Finley and a clean start and that looks like the Mexico Highlands Middle of the track out quickly and then Alabama Huntsville on the inside of them starting to make up the Stagger a little bit rough exchange out there for Leonard Ryan and that may hurt them but basically you see as they go down the backstretch holding up the Stagger so still anyone’s race and may be boiling down to who has the fastest anchor leg on the inside West Texas A&M they clearly have the fastest third leg and they will get the Baton first coming off the stretch West Texas A&M in lane two they are looking to win this second heat and making a big charge Lane six Leno ry’s coming back and Len Ry is going to take the second automatic qualifying spot so not quite as fast as the first heat but West Texas A&M will win in 4499 then or Ry is going to run 45 ens will finish third and fourth in that [Music] heat and again we have not had any official word about Minnesota state other than they are still listed at 4495 which would be the first fastest third time and it looks like sagov Valley also from that first heat their 4508 is going to be faster than the third in that second heat so they are still on the bubble Saga Valley 4508 with one heat remaining [Music] winner and you might hear in the background there some of the results of events that have finished they just did present the women’s hammer throw and we will give you a recap at the end of the day with all of the events that were finals today our men’s and women’s Hammer our men’s and women’s long jump and our women’s pull Vault all will be final events run today along with those 10,000 M that will be the final event of the evening so again we’ll give you a recap of those at the end of the day setting up Heat number three now on the track and we are scheduled to have Angelo State in Lane three Lincoln will be in four Academy of Art in five California State University Santa Barbra will be in Lane six and Pittsburgh state in Lane 7 Angelo State running out of Lane three we’ll see Lincoln to the right Lincoln is our defending national champion out of Jefferson City Missouri Lincoln seems to reload their women’s Sprint relay teams every year but they are scheduled to run a team of Kylie frush as the leader that would be Angelo State’s team Lincoln running out of lane four they are somewhat our favorites our defending Champions and they’re leading off with Shante George chevet Thomas mon Kerry and Aliana Anderson all accomplished sprinters leading Lincoln they will probably be the team to watch out of this first heat running out of lane four Academy of Art CSUSB and Pittsburgh state also with times under 45 seconds qualifying times this year we’ve seen some great times and marks already this season and we’re seeing that across the country many many states this year not with the best weather during their track season but for the end of the season their Regional and National and state meets for the high school students when you get good weather after a long spell good athletes good competition the times get really fast so everybody looking to put together some great times as they compete here at the end of their season and on the inside that is Lincoln in four quickly making up the Stagger out on the outside pit State also with a very good first and second leg pit state will hit the top of the curve first and we’ll see where they are at when they come off the Curve pit state in the red on that exchange that’s going to hurt they’re going to have to struggle to come back into this Race Academy of Art currently running second and you can see that’s just how quickly you can go from the front to the back pit state is going to win Academy of Art will be second and Lincoln are defending Champions they were they were advancing to the finals coming off that curve Lincoln as they finish last in that heat and they will not advance so once again can’t confirm that our results are official but in the board right now we still have pit State and Fresno State or pit State now with the fastest time Fresno Pacific and isua Pacific rounding out the top three we know our automatic qualifiers nobody improved on heat 1 so Minnesota state right now is in the finals at 4495 sagov Valley also in at 458 and that will be the final qualifying time so that will take us to our relays women’s scheduled for 210 Saturday final our next event on the track will be the men’s 1500 that is scheduled for a 510 start so you can see that because of some of those initial false starts getting started we’re just a bit behind on the track which is great for us great for you because that means no delays as we continue and we’ll get you set for the 1500 as the men are lining up on the North side so the men 1500 starts on the Southeast curve and again this is a qualifier so the goal here for all men running in this race is to not necessarily use up all their energy competing in the preliminaries they want to make it to the finals our current heat on the track here are the athletes scheduled to competing Jagger zot off of UCCS Elliot doson of Anderson South Carolina Robert Fardo of Lee Tennessee Stater of pit State Aziz Mohammad of West Texas A&M Samuel Lang of Michigan Tech Hudson majeski of Colorado Christian Alberto Campa from the Colorado School of Minds Nick melanes from San Marcos and Tyler Nord from Western Colorado we are scheduled for two Heats of this men’s 1500 and you can see there they will also have a recall here make sure everybody’s got their foot up on the line and they are underway again many of these athletes running multiple events here so the goal to get through the three days is to run a comfortable and easy qualifier in your Heats and then be able to leave it all out on the track in the finals and depending on what events you are running strategically planning out the day and you can see that they are running very slow at the beginning of this race so strategically they are running for for those first four spots the winners the four winners of each heat will advance along with the next four fastest times so nobody wants to get caught being number five in the first heat because then of course everybody in the second heat will know exactly what time they need to beat and they can set a pace accordingly [Music] [Applause] [Music] and our leader on the track that is Alberto Campa of the Colorado School of Minds he will bring them through two laps to go they are at 154 on the clock remember that is just a 700 meter time but it continues to be Campa the sophomore he is leading him around the backstretch and their 800 meter time will be just around 212 so again still pretty much a strategic race you can see the the pack still clustered together there anybody’s race they’ll be jockeying for position making sure nobody gets boxed the sprinters willing to hold back knowing that they will have a stronger kick than some of the other athletes but it will continue to be Campa leading them off the curve now as they come down the home stretch for the penultimate time and when they hit the finish line here the Bell will go off and then I suspect we will see quite a Sprint to the finish for that final 400 and there is the bell and they are now off and you can see how physical this race is they are three across three across with another three bunched in there so getting boxed is very difficult at this point if you are boxed you have two choices you muscle your way through or you have to drop to the back and go around and you can see that is what Campa has tried to do as he drops out of that package is now chasing still eight together there and if you’re running in Lane three on the top of that curve you’re definitely running much farther but if you were going to use that to slingshot you down the road and here we come the top four are in the top four will automatically advance so as they get clear they will be [Applause] looking to stay their way and there you see you see your first four across there so they’re clear the first four semi- relaxed as they cross Aziz Muhammad will win the time of 35 330 relatively insignificant they’re all in as automatic qualifiers the four thaton Hudson majeski of Colorado Christian Tyler Nord of Western Colorado Samuel Lang of Michigan Tech they will be on the bubble with Lang running 35896 so the second heat will know exactly what they are which is 35896 and you can see as they are coming down the home stretch they are relaxing you might have seen Mason ster there pushing it just to make sure he is second and clear with a good finish you can see there the pack as they are so tight tightly wound around that track as they’re coming down the Finish stretch our second heat we are scheduled to be seeing Juan Diego Castro from isua Pacific Dylan sper from pit State Luca pop from Windgate Patrick Lyle from Grand Valley Brock drenberg from Colorado School of Mines Cole Beno from Mississippi College Dominic Suman from Sagen Valley Caleb footer from Grand Valley State and Simon kot from Western State Western Colorado so the seatings are alternating Heats so no one heat is seated faster than the other but the disadvantage of running in that first heat is if that you don’t make the top four the runners in this heat know exactly what time they need to qualify s Valley down the backstretch this is Dominic sulaman of sagov Valley setting the pace and just off his shoulder that is Caleb footer of Grand Valley [Applause] but still anybody’s race as they come down this home stretch for the second [Applause] time in still tightly bunched as they head around that South curve and this heat they are going to hit their 800 meter Mark at around 209 so 3 seconds faster this heat and again that is the advantage they know the time to beat so the eighth place runner in this heat if they can beat 35479 they would know that they are in and believe me these athletes do know the time they have coaches yelling the times to them they have the times relatively in their head and as they come down this home stretch for the penultimate time they will see the big clock at the finish line so they know exactly where they are on the track and the experienced Runners know that they are Kenra run for both position and for we were in Dominic Sul of sagov Valley continuing to set the pace Caleb footer of Grand Valley on the inside and now as you see them going down the backstretch Simon kot of Western Colorado now taking the lead and pushing that pace a little bit so final 200 is going to be a Sprint we still have everybody here in contention nobody has dropped off the back so kilot wanting to be clear and have the inside ready as he comes off the curve for the last time again the top four are automatically in and Juan Diego Castro of azuza Pacific he will take the lead coming down this stretch they’re looking around you can see them making sure that they finish in the top four and it does look like the second four are all going to Wi well under that bubble time so we’ll let the results speak for themselves once they are official but I would be willing to bet that the four fastest times will come out of heat number two so we’re going to look at all three of those gentlemen for time qualification consideration finals and our four qualifiers by time are all going to come out of heat number two Patrick Lyle of Grand Valley State Dylan sper of pit State 5258 and that will be the final qualifying time women’s race is underway so again we were just behind schedule so we’re wasting no time getting started with the next races this is the women’s 1500 now on the track and everything is set the same way as far as who is going to qualify and who is going to advance to the finals by time so we have Kate Hedland of UCCS Arya Hawkins of Lee Claudia Ali of Grand Valley State Claire rethman of Walsh Vienna loner of Adam State Elena kery of Adam State Riley McGrath of the Colorado School of Mines Kaylee Byer of wiona State Emma kilson of Western Colorado and Lauren Wallace of Mississippi College go running in this first heat again the top four will automatically qualify along with the next four fastest [Music] times women’s 1500 scheduled for a 525 start and it looks like we started that race just about 528 so we’re just about 3 minutes behind the schedule but close enough that you can follow along the time schedule that is printed on the website and know that you aren’t going to miss any races [Music] track time here in the central time zone is now 530 and that also indicates that our women’s long jump competition is just getting ready to start but on the track you can see the bright fluorescent green of Adam State Colorado one of the teams to beat always a dominant force in the distance races Adam State Grizzlies and always easy to identify on the track with the bright [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] green Kaye berer of Winona State CL a om Ali of Grand Valley leading them through the first lap and 34s and now as they approach this 800 meter Mark heat one is going to hit their 800 meter Mark right around 234 HIP number eight there Kaylee buyer of Winona State the senior she has been on the inside and setting the pace for this so one of the athletes who has decided that this is going to be a fast race or a strategic race and if the rest of the field settles in with her they know that she can control the pace just a little bit the whole group together as you come off the curve here for the penultimate time you can see now the lead pack starting to pull away from from those in the back claudo Ali of Grand Valley in the middle and then on the outside Adam States Elena kry now moving up into that three across position as they now have one lap to go and there is Ali charging to the lead 1500 tough to call this a distance race anymore as some of the athletes basically now in shape to be able to run full speed at their speed for the entire three and 3/4 laps Kaylee Byer hanging tough so our leaders and Pace Setters they are still at the front as we come off this curve also that is area Hawkins of Lee Tennessee moving up but this is going to be Claudia Ali the Junior from Grand Valley she has decided she wants to win this heat so she is going to be first across the line and the rest of the field cruising in behind her the top four are in the next four are now across and we can let you know that om Ali will run 42952 buer 430 Hawkins 430 carry 431 and the fastest or the slowest of the four qualifying times currently is going to be Riley McGrath at 4:35 so without much delay we’re going to move quickly over to heat number two and we can tell you that Sarah K kumson of West Texas A&M Adam State Jordy Paradis of cui Gracie Hyde of Adam State Megan roxby of Simon Frasier cjac of Sou balls Anna fski of UCCS Lauren Wilson of Western Colorado and Katie heck of Fort Lewis make up Heat number [Music] two and you can see the gun is up for Heat number two and they are [Music] off and the pace down that backstretch and around the north curve looks to be a little slower than it was in that first heat so they do know the times they have to beat and as a pack unofficially deciding that they think they can either be in the top four or they will be able to finish the second half of this race stronger definitely appears to be a much more strategic race you can see when they’re bunched together like that that means nobody wants to go out and set the pace and so the leaders are running the pace they want to and you can tell those athletes behind are chomping at the bit to go but nobody has the decided yet that they are going to take the lead on that and looking back at those official marks from the first heat the bubble time indeed is 43514 Riley McGrath of the Colorado out a school of Minds so she is one athlete who’s probably happy right now that this pace seems to be relatively slow Maggie mesy from Adam State there in the fluorescent green on the outside at the front and that is Sarah kumson from West Texas A&M wearing HIP number one The Freshman on the inside but they are nearly three or four across as they head down here on the home stretch still nobody has been willing to take that jump and say we need to pick up the pace here so the sprinters feel confident right now because they know that they should be able to stay with this pack at this slow pace and then Sprint down the the final lap or 600 M if they need to and we will check exactly on the pace of this heat as they run around that South curve and this is definitely a slower Heat this Heat’s going to come through its 800 meter Mark around 243 so that is 9 seconds slower than the first heat and if they sense that at that point now you see that the pace has picked up because it is going to be tough to qualify if you are not in the first four across the line in this race on the track number five is not going to make it to the finals so we’re going to see about a 600 met Sprint now to the finish and as they come off the curve here now with 500 M to go that is mesy of Adam [Music] State and you can see that the pace has picked up also moving up on the outside Katie heck of Fort Lewis so this is going to be a fast 400 because only the first four will get in the finals in our women’s 1500 are scheduled for Saturday at 2:35 but again many of these athletes also will be running the 800 or the steeple chase or maybe even the 5,000 this evening but down the back stretch Gracie Hyde of Adam state is our leader and as we look at those top four Megan roxby of Simon Frasier ktie heck of Fort Lewis and Maggie mcclesky of Adam State they are the four in the lead at the top of the curve but not out of the woods yet not clear again the top four will advance and that may be it as this heat much slower than the first heat and it looks like we are going to have a race for that final spot Hyde height is going to win this heat that is her teammate mesy who may be on the short side of it mesy will finish fifth we will see what the times are Heyde is going to win 43579 roxby will be second Katie heck oh Leah Taylor from Western Colorado moving up ahead of heck but heck will finish fourth so she’ll get the automatic qualifying spot at 436 so as predicted Maggie mesy was fifth in that heat at 43643 but that will not be fast enough to get her into the finals and you can see there on your screen as her teammate wins she’s just can’t get across the line ahead of heck and that will be a tough pill to swallow for Maggie mesy but again that is the strategy of running if you are in the second Heat you know what time you need to run to advance to the finals well from the 1500 we’re going to speed it up a little bit our next event on the track is going to be the men’s 400 and for the men’s 400 this evening we will know that we are going to have three Heats so again top two qualifying but then it will just be the next two fastest times now this is not going to be such a strategic Grace if you are out front as you come down that home stretch you may be able to back off and relax just a little bit but for the most part these athletes are going to have to give it 100% in the preliminaries if they want to advance to the finals but we will begin with the men again we are going to have three Heats and in our first heat we’re going to have Lane One open and athletes will be glad of that it’s always a bit tougher to run two Curves in Lane one especially if you are taller and with longer legs so that is why if you have the fastest seed time you are generally in the middle of the track on an eight Lane track Lanes four and five are going to be the two fastest times but at the national meet we are seated into Heats but then the lanes are drawn randomly so for our first heat here we are going to have Lane One open in lane two we are going to have darari Bush of Harding Lane three Nicholas Clay of Mississippi College Lane four will be Joshua Caleb from Alaska Anchorage Lane five Raheem Tate best from University of Mary Lane six badel aay from l or rine Lane seven George Garcia from loic Christian and Lane eight Derek St genene of Harding again the top two will correction I correct myself um reading my heat sheet here there is a change on the individual events only the heat winner appears to be guaranteed a spot with the next five fastest times so that’s what I read on the heat sheet men’s 400 three Heats top winner will Advance Plus the next five fastest times to the finals this is the men’s 400 will be followed by the women’s 400 this evening then we move to the 100 and then we’ll get a much better idea of the wind readings on the track but for this 400 no matter what the wind is they know they’ll have half of it in their face and half of it at their back and as the wind is blowing from south to North they will get around this curve and they will enjoy the wind down the backstretch but when they come off that second curve and run to the Finish Line the wind will be directly in their face and again we’re going to have a recall so one characteristic so far we haven’t had too many clean starts in our 4X 100 meter relays and our 1500s although the good news nobody has been disqualified but we’re going to bring them back and do it again looks like we do have a green warning to the field and that may just be because they took their time getting into the blocks when the starter calls for them to take their marks if any athlete is taking too long they will bring the entire field up give the warning tell them to hurry up a little bit as they get down into the blocks now for the second time again first of three Heats in this men’s 400 [Applause] and a clean start around the track Joshua Caleb of Alaska Anchorage out quickly but now being caught on the Stagger by Nicholas cly of Mississippi College and again they have the wind at their backs here and as they come around the curve they know that they will have to dig down and fight down the home stretch darari Bush of Harding moving up on the very inside and he will be first off the curve it’ll be Harding in two cly of Mississippi in three and moving up now that’s HIP number five Raheem Tate best of umy and he is going to be second but again as we mentioned just one automatic qualifier so darari Bush of Harding the senior who runs 46 flat he will be an automatic qualifier will be taking the next five fastest times and that would mean at this time the bubble is going to be Derek St jeene from Harding 4699 so 46 flat is in 4699 is the bubble time and you can see the results there on your screen so now they are setting their blocks for Heat number two we’ll see Joshua pagee of tiffen in lane two Kaden Williams of pit state in three kuto Anika of Holy Family in four Kangle Christopher of limestone in five Sam tutor of pit state in six Justin steel of Lee in seven Prince Griffin of Northwest Missouri he will be in lane8 fastest qualifying time again coming out of the inside keep an eye on Joshua page of tiffen the sophomore with a time of 4575 this season that is that is the fastest qualifying time so keep an eye on page out of lane two again our lanes are randomly drawn so as they advance to the finals we can’t predict that our winners will always come out of lanes four and five keeping everybody honest but the advantage of course for Paige in this race is that he will have the rest of the field outs side so he the clean start here in lane or heat number two and that is Kaden Williams from pit State out quickly making up the Stagger and as they go down the backstretch you see Joshua page the sophomore very comfortable there running and Lane two he’s already made up the inside stagger and now as they run around the curve you can see him breaking into your screen he’s in two they’re in the outside he is making up massive ground there and he will be the first off the curve as you see them coming into view that is Joshua paig of tiffen he has not taken a break at all he is going to win this first heat by a wide margin and he is going to run a very very fast time that is going to be a season best time for him Paige will run 4524 AG the sophomore from tiffen he throws down the challenge with a 4524 his season best was 4575 so nothing like taking a half second off your meet so as all the times are in and you saw the times on your screen there we can tell you now that the bubble time is Prince Griffin from Northwest Missouri 4667 that is the time that our second place finisher in this next Heat if you’re in if you win the Heat you’re in if you don’t win the Heat you better be faster than 4667 here are your lane assignments now for this next Heat the lanes are going to be full it’s an eight Lane track here and we have eight competitors in this final heat we’ve got W Chapman from pit state in Lane one olle Olan rahu from Leno Ry in two Colin Clark of Lynn in three Ashwin Jude of Goldie beac will be in the lane four Ibraham odang of MSU Morehead is in five miles rhs of Grand Valley in six Grayson Foster of Mississippi College in seven Shamar Palmer of Fresno Pacific he will be in lane8 and the gun is up for this third section and if you are like me prior to this meet you had never heard of Goldie beacom I can tell you that Goldie beacom college is a private university in Wilmington Delaware and not traditionally known as a track Powerhouse but they do have an athlete running in lane four that is Ashwin Jude and he is out very quickly pulling away from the Stagger on the inside that is Jude with the headband in lane four moving up now in Lane three Colin Clark of Lynn again only the heat winner is guaranteed a spot in the finals so there will be no letting up down the backstretch or even around this North curve and into the final home stretch first off the curve is going to be on the outside Shamar Palmer of Fresno Pacific so it’s his race to lose going down the home stretch here moving up in lane four that is Jude from goalie beacom but it’s going to be Shamar Palmer from Fresno Pacific he will win Heat number three he will run 40 the slowest heat winner and as the times come through we know that Paige is in Bush is in Palmer’s in Justin steel is going to qualify for the finals Along With Sam tutor Raheem Tate shwin Jude from Goldie beacom he is going to take the final qualifying spot 4667 now looking at our timing system here we have three athletes cly Jude and Prince Griffin from Northwest Missouri State all at 4667 so our timing system only takes us out to the 100th but in the timing system itself they can easily break that down to the thousandth of a second and they have now done that so it is going to be very very tight in fact it does look like breaking it down to the thousandth we still may have a tie so unofficial here from our end we’re going to let the timing system do what they do best and make sure that it is looks like if you run that time one of you may be in one of you may be out we’ll try and give you an update but you can always follow along on the NCAA website just go to track and field division 2 live results and you will be good to go seeing all the times and the marks just as quickly we’re going to go to the women’s 400 m and for the women’s 400 again we’re going to have three beats so that makes it fun when you just know you have to win and you’re in and if not you better run a very fast time because it may come down to a thousandth of a second whether you can advance to the finals or not women’s 400 meter dash heat one lane one Elizabeth Adams of Ashland lane two Alexis white of CSUSB Lane three omara Ogen Maki from Harding Lane four blessing Ain Rana Vera from Fresno Pacific Lane six carouser Augustine from Washburn Lane seven Elena Verner from isua Pacific and in Lane eight Micah Edwards from pit State first of three Heats all lanes are expected to be full in our women’s 400 looking there at Augustine the sophomore from Washburn in Lane six Vera Fresno Pacific in Lane five fastest qualifying time in this heat is actually from Lane three oen mckin from Harding The Freshman 5190 which would be the fastest qualifying time overall so let’s keep our eyes on Lane three as she has the fastest time in the country this season for division 2 but inside of her that is Alexis white of Cal State Santa Barbara making up the Stagger as they go down the backstretch we also have Elena verer of isua Pacific making up the Stagger on the outside and blessing a kintoy from West Texas A&M on the inside and as they come off the curve it’ll be a kintoy of West Texas A&M she is going to be the first off the curve here comes in lane two Hogan mckin from Harding again she did have the fastest qualifying time this season and she is proving why right now as she is going to win this first heat kju the Freshman from Harding 53 she’s automatically in and as we look at our five qualifying times our bubble time after heat one is going to be 5516 and that is Augustine from Washburn Heat number two results there you can see that that qualifying bubble time is 556 so you’re looking at number HIP number one that’s shade Finley from Angelo State she’ll be on the inside in the second heat of our women’s 400 fastest qualifying time in this heat second fastest qualifying time at 5289 lane two will be Sakina Messiah from University of Mary Lane three Ayanna fields from Cal Poly Pomona Lane four Alona Ola aleva from sagov Valley she’ll be on the middle of the track in lane four carissia Perry from West Texas A&M in five oliz Olivia Cosby of Windgate will be in Lane six running out of Lane seven Khloe SS from Northwest Missouri and in Lane at Brooklyn Holtman of Central Missouri you’re looking there at Ayanna fields of Cal Poly Pomona and that is Olivia Cosby of Windgate the fastest qualifying time out of this heat wiiz Perry from West Texas A&M she’s run 5236 and there is Perry with the qualifi fastest qualifying time out of this heat so she will be the one to keep an eye on as they come out of the blocks and run around that first curve when you’ve got that fast qualifying time all the pressure is on you in a race like this where you do need to be the first one across the line to get the automatic qualifying spot women’s 400 meters you can see in your shot there the flags on top of the the Press Box blowing in the wind it’s not overly windy but there’s definitely a breeze here and when it does hit you you definitely feel like you are out there in the wind although the temperature still in the lower 80s as we now hit 6:00 Central Time down the backstretch you can see there is our favorite Perry from West Texas A&M moving up on her inside aleva sagov Valley and Fields of Cal Poly Pomona now making her move but the leaders are in the middle of the track and as they come off the curve that is going to be fields of Cal Poly Pomona but outside of her Perry from West Texas A&M asserting herself as they run down the stretch moving up in Lane one Finley of Angelo State and from our angle that may be a photo finish it did look like our favorite Carissa Perry from West Texas A&M and she is going to win the Heat at 5285 but a f faster heat than the first one as shade Finley of Angelo State her qualifying time and along with oleva of sagov Valley those are going to be very quick times in fact quicker than the winner of our first heat so two Heats are in two automatic qualifier to beat it is now 5394 Elena verer of isua Pacific sits on the bubble at 5394 one more heat to go in this women’s 400 and again the lanes will be full Tiffany huy of Northwest Missouri will be in one Hannah kyola of South Connecticut state in two Aaron Thompson of UT Tyler in three Melanie Roland of Texas A&M Kingsville in four Alica Lane of Minnesota state in five Anna Salsbury of LC Christian in six Kinley Hall of pit state in seven and neia soul of Metro State Denver she will be on the outside just read a nice story about nalia soul of Metro State Denver she’s in the outside here discussing her track career she out of be Creek High School in Denver Colorado didn’t think she would be running tracked but was talked into it by a teammate Ransom not so great times as a freshman continued to improve continued to stick it out and now the Junior at Metro State Denver actually making it to the National meet she’s out there in Lane 8 fastest qualifying time here keep an eye on Lane one on the inside Tiffany huy from Northwest Missouri she does have the fastest qualifying time but again that’s a good opportunity to remind all of us that while the goals are ultimately the same to come to Nationals and win a medal they do vary just competing at the national meet and getting a PR in your final event of the Season can be a huge accomplishment something that makes this sport wonderful that not only are you competing against everybody on the track you are also competing at yourself and trying to improve as you go so as they head down the backstretch that is Alica Lane of Minnesota state in the yellow she’s in the middle of the track and it also looks like Aaron Thompson of UT Tyler and there is our favorite Tiffany huy of Northwest Missouri and with the shortest distance around that curve that is her coming off the curve in Lane one so we’ve got huy in one Thompson in three both looking to get the automatic qualifying time or place position we should say and that is going to be hulie of Northwest Missouri so she is going to win the Heat and take the automatic qualifier and she is going to run get entered into the system it looks like our qualifiers by time are going to be Shad Finley Alana oleva Aaron Thompson ayyan fields and our final qualifier she ran 5352 but that is good enough for our fifth and final qualifying spot blessing a kintoy from West Texas A&M so not much break on the track as we are now setting up for the men’s 100 m and again we are going to have three Heats so bit of a time to catch up in between Heats as we look to see who is going to be the fastest on on the track this evening we are going to run from south to North so we will have the wind behind us as we run these 100 meters and you can see just what the sprinters see right now as they are coming out of the blocks Robert so we’d like to definitely welcome all track fans who are here for the three days of watching the 2024 NCAA division 2 men’s and women’s outdoor track and field championships we are at Zola wit track in Welch Stadium at the campus of Emporia State University here in Emporia State this is the fourth time that Emporia State has hosted outdoor Nationals and conversations earlier today maybe prophecies maybe speculations but did talk to some of the Emporia State Personnel they are hoping to build a indoor facility here that would rival some of the best not only in the country but in the state and this MIAA conference over the last few years most of the schools may I say most most of the schools many of the schools have been taking advantage of either funds or the ability to build an indoor facility obviously an indoor facility can be used for multiple sports but the track teams in the midwest have taken advantage of it Pittsburgh state and Northwest Missouri State with relatively new indoor facilities and pit state did host the Indoor national meet this season Washburn University with a new 200 met banked track and rumor is that in Poria State looking for a similar facility and that would just again open up so many more opportunities not only for track and field athletes but for all athletes competing in this part of the country the ability to practice indoors and Outdoors not the advantages of all the schools down south where they can pretty much practice outside year round men’s 100 meters you can see our first heat setting the blocks there’s Xavier carmichel of pit he is going to be outside in Lane six in this first heat again we’re going to run three Heats qualifying just the heat winner plus the next five fastest times for the finals so our first heat we are going to see Lorenzo Boyd of calply Pomona in two w Bennett of Dominican out of California he’ll be in Lane three Leon tarika from Cal State Los Angeles he will be in lane four kebran Moore of Albany State in five Xavier carmichel of pit state will be in Lane six and Ed Gilbert of Albany State he’ll be in Lane seven fastest qualifying time from this heat that would be kiin Moore of Albany State the sophomore with a season best time of 10 flat so heat winners are in this will give us a first chance to get a clean wind reading and we’ll find it is going to be a plus wind that would rule out any records today but of course the wind is the same for all the athletes on the track and other than the inability to establish a wind non-wind AED record it’s still about qualifying for the finals and as you see this first race go there is one semi unusual aspect of the track here here in that the finish line for this 100 m it’s in the middle of the exchange zone so if you’ve been watching along you see that on this track you have the gold and black track with the exchange zones in the all black when we do see the Finish Line in this next race the finish line for this straightaway is in the middle of the black and that is just possibly confusing to the athletes because it looks like a natural finish line that is about 10 yard short of the existing Finish Line where you’ll see with the cones and of course that is where the cameras are so here we go Boyd Bennett tyena Moore carmichel and Gilbert and as we are running right to left that is Lane one on the inside and that is not a good sign again we’ve mentioned that we’ve had several recalls throughout the day but we’ve had no disqualifications but this one may not be a warning of course the format is the starter will go over to the other starters they will talk to them and make sure we’ve got what we have but you see the red flag up there so the red flag is up so that will be a disqualification and that is toera from Cal State Los Angeles and track and field is an unforgiving sport one slight mistake and you are eliminated from the race so we’ll reset with Lane four open Boyd in two Bennett in three Moore in five car Michel in six Gilbert in seven and you can see just how quickly how specifically there the starters are looking to make sure everybody’s hand is behind the line and you saw some shaking at the line but nothing worth a recall and you can see there there is that finish line with the cones that is in the middle of that black relay exchange Zone and you can see how far those Runners keep going they are all the way onto the grass at the building at the south end but that was going to be kibran Moore from Albany State so again we said he had the fastest qualifying time at 10 flat he runs 999 in his first heat but again that was a plus 3 six wind reading so wi dated but a 999 and that will advance him to the finals and of course we’ll have Bubble times on the next five but with only four finishing that heat so far all of those athletes advancing again three Heats [Music] setting their blocks now for Heat number two we are scheduled to see a Johnny in of the Academy of Art in two Antonio Le of Central Missouri in four Winfred Porter from Kataba he’ll be in Lane five four in in two lay in three Porter in four Nathaniel Luna of leet Christian in five Malachi Adams of tiffen in six and Ty Anderson of Emporia State will be in seven so chance for the home crowd here to cheer on one of their athletes I think we counted up five athletes from Emporia State advancing to the national championships and this is the first one we’ve seen on the track so if you hear a little extra cheering along the way that is because in Poria States Ty Anderson the sophomore he is in Lane seven in the this heat representing the Hornets on his home track and you see Anderson there closest to your screen wearing the gold and gray of the Hornet gold over black of the Hornets he is in Lane seven favorite to beat here may be Antonio Le out of Lane three from Central Missouri he’s run 1017 this season so obviously as you see the heads can cross the line it’s the fingers that need to be behind the [Music] line and [Music] Malachi Adams of tiffen out very early but from our angle that doesn’t necessarily mean he crossed the line first so we’ll wait for the camera and we will see that it was Malachi Adams out of Lane six he’ll run 101 win died down a little bit just a plus 2.1 for Adams in is second lay is third Winford Porter is fourth Ty Anderson will run 1027 so that will be a season best for Anderson the hometown boy from Emporia he’ll run 1027 which is better than his 1029 so looking at the compiled results now we know two are in more and Adams have advanced to the finals on the bubble is Xavier carmichel from pit State 1018 is the bubble now Heat number three you’re seeing Kanye Thompson of Slippery Rock in one jabz Reeves of Minnesota state in two the priest Hogans of pit state in three mil Stevens [Music] of North Greenville again coming across some schools and as we read the heat sheets the abbreviations don’t necessarily match up with what I see but we are going to have in lane for mil Stevens from North Greenville Parker love of Southwest Baptist will be in six Isaac boio of West Texas A&M in six and Jerry Jaba of West Texas in seven Thompson Reeves Hogans Stevens love bsio and Jacka this is the third and final heat of our men’s 100 m and the time to beat for the bubble is 1018 fastest qualifier btio keep an eye on Lane six boio the sophomore from West Texas A&M he came in with the number one seed at 993 it was not that long ago that 993 was the world record in the men’s 100 meters set by Calvin Smith back in the early 19 80s the amount of athletes that have broken that since and as the records continue to drop but we’ll see what happens here in Heat number three keep an eye on bsio in six and a clean start and btio is our leader building momentum in Lane three that’s Hogan from pit state three across we’ll check the time bsio is going to win 999 and a plus 2.3 win so final matchup that is scheduled for Saturday afternoon at 3:25 bsio is the fastest qualifier at 999 more also at 999 our final qualifying time is going to to be 1016 and a Johnny in of Academy of Art he is going to get that final qualifying Mark 10.16 to make the finals so with a every athlete is capable of going under that magical 10 flat Mark and when we come back we’ll be ready for the women’s 100 m women 100 m scheduled for a 625 start it is 619 here in Emporia Kansas meaning we have caught back up and have moved ahead of schedule so 6 minutes that’ll give you time for a little break to if you are following along click on one of those field events and see how the field event competitions are going our women’s long jump competition is currently underway and we’ll go ahead and take a quick break on the track again women’s 100 that is going to start in 5 minutes e e e e e e e e and welcome back to Emporia Kansas and to Zola Wht track at Welsh Stadium for the 2024 NCAA division 2 men’s and women’s outdoor track and field championships had a little break to catch up with everything on the track and we are back and we’re just about ready to begin the women’s 100 m Dash preliminary again we’re going to have three Heats qualifying the winner plus the next five fastest times so here are our lane assignments for the race on the track now Lane one will be colonique farington of Southwest Baptist lane two we’ll have Alexandria Akerman from California State San Bernardino my apologies to San Bernardino calling that one wrong with the abbrev ation on my heat sheets but we not make that mistake again so auran lane two from Cal State University San Bernardino Lauren James of Academy of Art will be in three Victoria oranos Sola of lonard Ryan will be in four Alexis Brown of Leno Ry in five Nadia chance of Fresno Pacific in six Deborah Hmong from West Texas A&M in seven and Sariah Copeland of Fresno Pacific will be in lane8 [Music] [Applause] and out very quickly that is Alexis Brown of Lor Ry Lauren James of Academy of Art closing and Alexis Brown she is going to be first across the line 11:24 and then from West 34 down to 1140 for Lauren James and of course the heat winners in that bubble time is going to be 1154 from Sarah Copeland of Fresno Pacific and as we look now at Heat number two Crystal marale of Lewis in one yakubu bikas of West Alabama in two Shante George of Lincoln in three Tanaya Looney of pit state in four Marie Eloise lir of Simon Frasier in five Rose agouli of Lewis in six Lila clear of University of Mary in seven and in Lane eight from Central Washington Alexis Hollis fastest qualifying time here coming from Mary Marie Eloise laclair of Simon Frasier the Junior from Canada 1119 that is our fastest qualifying time in this second heat reminder the winners are in the next five fastest times will [Music] [Music] Advance as the sun is beginning to set here in Emporia it has gone down behind the Press Box so the track now bathed in [Music] shadow wind also dying down a little bit that last Heat of the women’s just a plus 1.9 which is good to see for all of our upcoming events after this 100 meters we’ll have our steeple chase 400 meter hurdles and of course our 10ks to close out the night [Music] [Applause] [Music] that looks like lane two yakubu bikas from West Alabama she was the leader as she passed us here in the middle of the Press Box and lir will run 1132 bikas also with 1132 so that tie broke down to the thousandth of a second and lir will take the Victory and the automatic qualifying spot bikas will be on the bubble at 11:32 and you can see George of Lincoln at 1140 Looney of pit State at 11:45 our new bubble time is now Looney that 11:45 is the fifth fastest non- winner so 11:45 the time to beat as we now get ready for Heat number three and you’re looking at Tama Horton of sou Falls she’ll be in lane8 and now as we look back to the inside here are the lane assignments for heat 3 Shante Roberts of Minnesota state Morehead in one adah Brewster of Minnesota state in two javana Cornett of Academy of Art in three Giselle Scarlet of Eastern New Mexico will be in lane four Denisha cartright of Minnesota state will be in five deand reque gains of pit state in six s DUS sua of Carson Newman in seven toaya Horton of Sue Falls in eight fastest qualifying time in this heat look at Denisha cartright the senior from Minnesota state we mentioned her earlier in that 4X 100 met relay that is a name that you have heard many times here at the national meet Denisha cartright the senior now from Minnesota state looking to put her final stamp on the NCAA division 2 track and field championships and a clean start out very quickly that is C ride of Minnesota state and you can see the field is not going to come back to her so the third and final heat is going to go to cartright she’ll run 1126 with a so Brown will have the overall fastest qualifying time at 1124 cartright at 11:26 and lir at 1132 so your heat winners running the fastest times and as we look down now at the qualify to get in and they are again going to have to go down to the thousandth of a second but it does appear that Lauren James of Academy of Art will advance to the finals shant George at 1140 will be ninth and out of luck as we move to the finals again the finals for the women’s 100 m that are scheduled for 3:35 on Saturday as once again you can see that Shadows now across the track back here at Welch Stadium temperature still in the lower 80s clocking in about 83° and that wind coming and going we did have a women’s 100 race with a just a plus 1.9 we also had our plus 3.0 wind in one of the Heats there so coming in gusts and as we get ready for our next event on the track it will be the Ste people chase so they will be running laps around the track so wind not necessarily being a factor and it is definitely warm enough that as they come through that water jump it is not going to make them any colder as they continue their race um I think uh we’ll give you a quick opportunity just to kind of go through through the earlier results of the day we’re going to do a recap for you later this evening but as we are on schedule here and waiting a few minutes before we begin our steeple chase just give you an update on the events that have been finalized today our women’s P Vault competition definitely will help affect the team standings Pittsburgh state one of the team contenders finishing second and third in that women’s P Vault with Kyla Davis and Isabelle Peters and Bren King from Roberts wesleyian the winner of our women’s pole vault competition King establishing herself as one of the upand coming women pole valters coached by the legendary Jen sir she comes in to this event in the pole vault today she does not come in until there is just one jumper remaining at 4 m 40 and king would go on to win that men’s pole vault competition does not run until Saturday morning the long jump competition is underway right now so sometimes as you look around the track and you can see there in the foreground we are currently in flight two of our women’s long jump competition so we’ll bring you all the results of that competition when they are concluded later on this evening men’s long jump competition has concluded that finished earlier this afternoon and it was isua Pacific’s Jal Jones winning the men’s long jump our hammer throw competition is complete here at Welch Stadium we do have enough room for our shot putut and our high jump venues along with P VA and our vertical jumps to be on site the athletes do have to leave and head out to the Northwest part of the facility here on the campus of Emporia State for the javelin competition the hammer competition The discus competition those all held to the Northwest area of the track where if you are familiar with wels stadium in aoria state that is the scheduled site for that indoor facility that they are hoping to build here down the road so those field events are being live streamed through Emporia State athletics so if you do have an athlete competing in the javelin The discus or the hammer throw um again through the NCAA can find a link that will take you to a live stream of those throwing events we will not be able to show you those events live here on our live stream but again we will provide you an update as we get closer to the competition concluding you’re looking at the women’s long jump competition right now and as mention mention before we are in our second flight our current leader is Nicole war of isua Pacific she’s out at 6 M 51 that’s 2142 in on the runway now you do see mmir Seward of fville State getting ready for her third and final jump correction that looks like she was our previous jumper for 598 this is Ariana paseri of University of Mary on the runway and Pacer currently in second place in this long jump she jumped 6 M 31 on her first attempt and that is good enough to get her into second place 20 8 A2 you just saw her second jump and we’re awaiting the results on that jump we’ll follow quickly with your and no improvement there for paseri 6 M 22 so now on the runway you see our next women’s long jumper and this is going to be Claudia Fernandez from Puerto Rico Rio pederas the junor of course the NCA division 2 with schools in Canada Simon Frasier but also in Puerto Rico Rio Pedas and this is their long jumper on the runway and her first jump was 5 m 55 that is 18t 2 in that was good enough to put her into 16th Place so we’ll see what her second jump comes up with again this is the second round of the second flight in this women’s long [Music] jump and an improvement she’ll get out to 5 m 88 that will move her up into 11th place and next up on the runway Jan Young from Cal State Los Angeles she fouled on her first attempt so looking just to get a clean Mark here on her second attempt young of Cal State Los Angeles and another foul so young will have two fouls to work with with one jump remaining [Music] and track time is now 6:39 here in Emporia Kansas so that means we are ready for our next race on the track this is going to be the men’s 3,000 meter Steeple Chase and again this is a preliminary event so the goal of these athletes not necessarily to run their best time but to run a time that will get them into the finals with not too much energy many of these athletes although this is a difficult race it is a distance race and they may also be running the 5000 000 or even have run that 1500 so here are the lane assignments for this first heat of our men’s 3,000 meter steeple chase as you see them lined up on the far side of the track aspel kiob from East Central in Lane number one Caleb futter of Grand Valley Grant Bradley of Fort hay state sahil buzy of Windgate Felix perer of huza Pacific Jared Gillingham from Western Washington Edwin sua from Western Colorado Richie Johnston from Hillsdale and Caleb baloy of CSU peblo that is our first heat and you see that the gun is up and there uh fastest qualifying time coming out of this heat is 837 that is by buzy of Windgate but again they’re not so concerned about the time today more concerned about qualifying two heat so here in a distance race the top four will get in plus the next four fastest times and again this is a 3,000 M steeple chase they’ll skip the water barrier that first time around they won’t face any barriers until they run past the finish line here this first time so the first barrier being just about 220 230 M into the race and as they come up to this barrier it’s Caleb footer of Grand Valley you did see him earlier in that 1500 so he is doubling up early first day Thursday National Championship Caleb footer the senior from Grand Valley running the 1500 and now doubling back into the steeple chase and as they head down the backstretch for the first 400 m on the track just about 72 seconds on their first 400 m and again that’s not a completely accurate measurement as the steeple chase water jump here on the inside of the track but there through clean on the first attempt at the water barrier and again footer still in the lead and moving up on his shoulder Caleb booy from CSU peblo CSU peblo hting the D2 National meet last year and they will host it again next year so for the athletes to make the adjustment last year they were at altitude this year not so high although we are not at sea level peblo Pueblo is about 4500 ft so definitely running in at altitude in Pueblo andoria Kansas more closely 1,100 ft here above altitude above sea level so definitely not sea level but only somewhat higher this far from any ocean but we’ll be back in Pueblo next year and then the following year in 2026 the national championships will be back here in Emporia and coming through that water jump no change at the lead we still have Caleb bjoy of CSU Pueblo and ASO Ki Rob of or correction Caleb footer of Grand Valley but anybody’s race tightly packed together just nine athletes in this race when you watch the bigger meets on the World level in the steeple chase or even some of the smaller meets where they’re only going to run one heat they’re not going to run prelims and finals in what may be one of the most difficult aspects of track and field is hurdling a barrier or a water jump that you do not see when you are in a pack of 10 to 15 even up to 20 Runners on the track and you can see how tightly they’re bunched and you have to hurdle that barrier whether you see it or not so you are just following along the guy in front of you and when he jumps you jump and these barriers of course not forgiving they do not move like a hurdle they’re not going to fall over if you hit the hurdle these barriers are going to knock you down but as we come off that North curve now we finally see a break on the track and this is Asel kiob of East Central he has now pushed the pace and he has already developed a 10 meter lead four laps to go so just still about the halfway point 4:30 on the clock now as our athletes continue around the track again the top four are automatically in so if Ki prop feels good no sense in holding back he will go and get himself clear of the field to where he can comfortably finish the second half of this race and still know that he will finish in the top four Ki Rob with a qualifying time of just 855 so the not knowing if that is a strategic decision or just the inability to get in any meets with great weather but well off the qualifying times in fact 855 43 I won’t say that lucky to make it into the finals but definitely in the bottom five of advancing to the finals here and that is the trick during the season no longer do any athletes have a qualifying meet you have to go to meets where you know that you can run a good clean time and ideally you get that early in the season in a distance race and that does give you some flexibility to double up to run in some other events and even adjust your strategy while some athletes are fighting right up until that last chance meet meet but on the track there you see the distance almost the length of the football field now that kiprop has with just two and a half laps remaining and he’s again through the water barrier water barrier not at the top of the curve like you see in some tracks they’ll come off that North curve there and it is midway between the straightaway and the top of the curve but you see kiop coming down to you now and the lead is not quite as big as it was down the backstretch he had about a football field he’s only got about 60 yards now now as the pace has picked up with the chase pack and that looks like Edwin Cuda of Western Colorado now moving his way up into second place and as they have now under two laps to go Ki propop still well in the lead so feeling comfortable for wanting getting one of those first four qualifying spots but we have five runners in that chase pack and of course only three of those spots are automatic qualifiers and not a super quick Pace in this first heat so knowing you’re in the first heat time will become a concern for one of those two of those athletes in that chase pack they know that they need to get a time that will challenge the second heat 500 M now though to go for our leader and you see as he clears that that barrier he has a straightaway and a lap to go new leaders of the chase pack and that is going to be Jarrett Gillingham of Western Washington moving up into second place and all of our leaders now on their Bell lap see the pack coming Gillingham leading the charge from Western Washington now just about 20 yards behind our leader Kip propop of East Central 15 yards so the pack is closing or at least Jarrett Gillingham is closing but again they are running for the top four spots trying to stay clear getting over that water jump for the final time is always a good measure as they will only have one barrier now to the finish line and you can see as kiop looking behind Gillingham checking behind just making sure that once they get over this barrier they have a clean run to finish in the top four but frezy moving up now into third spot and that is going to be Felix perer of isua Pacific who is going to be in that fifth spot across the line so he’s going to be the first to worry about the bubble the top four times will get in after the first four places and these two crossing the finish line now will make up that final spot so you see kiop and Gillingham and bezy and Bradley they’re all in 9:05 then we’ve got perier sua futter and Johnston of Hillsdale they are on the bubble and that bubble time onon of Hillsdale 91629 so as we get ready now for Heat number two on the far side of the track we are scheduled to see Nixon career of isua Pacific ton lree of Windgate Joshua Bishop of tiffen Ricardo Barbarosa Barbosa of Windgate Paul career of East Central Tim Brown from Black Hills Alexander Vance from Colorado Christian ad new Sten from Minnesota state Morehead ree Smith from Northwest Missouri and matis V from CSU PUO they are lined up on the far side there you see them getting ready for their start in the second heat of the men’s 3,000 M steeple chase and you can hear we PA system reading the introductions of these athletes and the starter holding up so that every athlete gets introduced before they begin their Quest around the track our women’s Ste Chase scheduled for a 710 start here in Central Time conclusion of the women’s steeple chase preliminaries we’ll have the men’s and women’s 400 meter hurdles and of course we’ll finish tonight with the 10ks the men’s 10K scheduled to begin at 810 and the women’s 10K at 850 central time but we are now underway here in our second heat on the track of this men Steeple Chase and again the bubble time is 91629 [Music] two men are from wind that is and Bara ree Smith of Northwest Missouri out to set the pace and again with the advantage of knowing that bubble time the athletes here can decide that they want to set a quicker Spa quicker Pace knowing that you do not have to finish in the top four to advance to the final the final of the men steeple chase is actually scheduled tomorrow so many of our sprinting events will have their finals on Saturday with the athletes having a day off unless they are in another event we’ve got the steeple chase finals the men’s is scheduled for tomorrow at 7:15 so the recovery will be just about 24 hours for these athletes until they have to come back and do it all over [Music] again re Smith of Northwest Missouri continuing to lead on the track and that is lri of Windgate and Barbosa of Windgate moving up into that second and third position so The Windgate athletes hope to push and pull each other along and make sure they get in there and there you see how that barrier is not forgiving so our four athletes at the back of the pack all it takes is one misstep and they are so close tightly packed that you see one person hit that barrier and three go down and the heart’s beating a little faster now at the back as they are all up and trying to catch back up with the pack it’s like those four at the back Sten of Morehead ver of CSU peblo Tim Brown of Black Hill State and Alexander Vance of Colorado Christian the four athletes getting caught at that barrier that is just beyond the finish line six athletes still running together at the front of the pack LED by lree of Windgate and that lead pack all over that barrier and you can see that trail pack that had some trouble with it last time they are all clean this time we’ll see if they have the energy left to move back up into contention top four are automatically in and there’s six in that lead group but the pace was faster so still hope for those on the track at the back of this pack if that fall did not take too much out of them and they can recover from that they still do have time to get back up into the lead four and a half laps to go now and we do have The Windgate teammates trading off at the front with lree and Barbosa taking turns at the front this is Barbosa now and they are running one two discussing with each other what they want the pace to be as they continue around the track with now four laps remaining and we do still have six athletes at the front third and then the Pacific theer of matis ver of CSU Pueblo now leading that second pack trying to get back into contention the next event on the track will be the women’s 3000 met Steeple Chase and you can see a little bit of sunshine now on the North End of the track and now where the Press Box is blocking it you can see they run into the shadow but still very warm 82° out here in Emporia Kansas and we see The Windgate Duo of lree and Barbosa running together side by side as they’ll head down that backstretch now with about 900 met to go Barbosa and lree of Windgate are your two out front ree Smith from Northwest Missouri Nixon career of isua Pacific and Paul career of East Central are running two three and four on the track Joshua Bishop of tiffen is running fifth on the [Music] track two laps to go now for our leaders and that first move is made by Barbosa he has put a little bit of distance between himself and his teammate mate lree and moving up that’s Nixon career of isua Pacific into third Paul career of East Central now fourth again the top four will automatically advance so if this four can get any more separation they will be able to relax just a little bit down the around the final lap 500 meters to go now for our leaders on the track again the bubble times 91629 that is what number five on the track is most concerned about at this point but you see him now coming towards you on your screen Ricardo Barbosa of Windgate he does have the second fastest qualifying time this season the Junior with 8 running 840 during the season so feeling the favorite he is going to extend his lead as we head to this Bell lap you see the next three chasing him again they can feel safe if they can finish in that top four and today this is really what it’s all about in preliminaries it’s just surviving and advancing to the finals with the least amount of energy spent but you can see that the runners back there in fifth position has decided no ree Smith of Northwest Missouri State with a charge down the backstretch and now he has moved into the top four and as they come through that water jump for the final time it is basically about 170 m Sprint with one barrier to go and our leader now over that barrier This Is Where It’s Tricky when you’re running together and you’re running for a space you’re you need to make sure you get over those barriers but it looks like our four are clear a very strong finish here from Alexander or matis V from CSU Pueblo he’s going to be sixth in this heat and we’ll see how those times all finish but Barbosa is going to win at 901 career will be 9:03 so Barbosa will have the fastest overall time but ker who was and as we look at our eight qualifying times those were the top four in each heat and our four fastest qualifiers are going to be Felix perier from isua Pacific toan lrie from Windgate he will hold on and qualify he was running out at front most of that second heat but he will get get in matis vet from CSU peblo so he overcomes that early fall and finishes with a season best 90732 he will advance to the finals and Edwin Cuda of Western Colorado at 91067 he will also advance to the finals so we have our finalists in our men’s steeple chase and again many of these athletes running multiple events but they will all be back or at least the top 12 will be back tomorrow 24 hours from now to run in the finals in this men’s steeple chase so we’re going to go ahead and take a quick break here on the track track time is 72 our women’s 3,000 M steeple chase scheduled to begin at 710 so we will see you in a about 5 minutes and welcome back to Emporia Kansas we are here at Zola Wht track Welch Stadium for the 2024 NCAA division 2 men’s and women’s outdoor track and field championships we are right on schedule so if you are following along with the NCA AA live results where you can see the results of every throw every jump and get even get splits on the track you know that our next event will be the women’s 3000 meter Steeple Chase and you can see them on the far side of the track there warming up getting their final run throughs as we get ready to start this race in just a minute or two so as most of our events have gone today we are going to have two Heats and will qualify the first four in each heat plus the next four fastest times and the goal goal today is to advance to the finals so here are the women competing in our first heat on the steeple chase we’ve got cathina gotel from Academy of Art Shannon King from Colorado Christian Anna igims from Slippery Rock Ashley Reek from Western Washington Maria Mitchell from Grand Valley Margot Thomas from CSU peblo Allison Beasley from Western Colorado Margo bassart from Colorado School of Mines Ava oconor from Adam State and Morgan hikes from Adam state so a very strong Colorado representative here in this first heat of the women’s steeple chase most of those athletes having that benefit of training at altitude and coming down here to Emporia relatively 3,000 ft below Pueblo and even more from Gunnison and Alamosa Colorado so fully expected to see the Alamosa Adam State women out in front on the track and leading the way wearing HIP number nine that is Ava ‘ Conor the Junior from Adam State she does have the second fastest qualifying time this season running sub 10 at 954 we’ll see her teammate Gracie Hyde in the next Heat she’s running 928 so only the two women from Adam state with qualifying times sub 10 [Applause] minutes and the field spreading out very quickly unlike those two men’s races where you did see the tight packs early the women’s race quickly spreading out with the same strategies again the whole goal here is to be in the top four or the next four fastest times and you see there are leaders continuing to be Ava o’ Conor Allison Beasley of Western and just as we said ‘ Conor or Ashley reek going down into the water but quickly up so again the barriers are not flexible like the hurdles but you can recover as we saw in that last to the men’s you can stumble and still have enough time to recover and only the athletes themselves know what it takes out of them and strangely enough the pace coming back and we are tightly packed again in a tighter pack now as they have under six laps to go so they spread out quickly and maybe it was hitting that first water jump barrier brought the pack together but now the entire field all back together within just about five yards obviously the goal of all of these athletes is to walk away with a medal this weekend maybe a team title maybe just an individual medal but also to finish the season with a personal best the season not always over for every athlete many of the athletes competing here at the division division 2 national championships hoping to qualify for their own national teams go we all know that the US track and field championships will be held in Oregon June 21st through the 30th many athletes here may also qualify for the under 20 championships that’ll be week and a half earlier June 12th and 13th also in Eugene the under 20 championships and then of course many International athletes in the field and as we see there on the left side of your screen that is hip number six that is Margot Thomas from CSU peblo as a French national hoping to get a time here that advances her to the qualifying for the Olympics for France and we do know that we have many International athletes here who are trying to get qualifying marks to where they can go to their home countries maybe get another meet or two in before they’re qualifying for the Olympics the Olympics track and field start August 1st and we’re all excited for the Olympics this year the anniversary of the 1924 Olympics which were brought to Fame by the movie Chariots of Fire 100 years later the Olympics back in Paris and the Olympics of course beginning July 24th but the track and field or the Athletics portion of the Olympics to be held August 1st through August August 11th so we do hope to see many of our athletes here at these championships giving a run to making a national team but on the track here as we come across with we are now past our Midway point and another tumble you see that Alamosa Morgan hikes with a tumble over the barrier but she is up and running again her teammate continuing to lead at the front of the race Ava OK Conor setting the pace up front alongside Katarina gutel of Academy of Art they are the two on the track setting that pace of course the top four are automatically in but it has been a rough race and it does look like we did lose one that HIP number seven Allison Beasley of Western Colorado getting to the Finish Line with four laps to go and whether she was injured on a barrier or just not feeling it may have another event this weekend and no point continuing if that is going to damage her attempt but we do have Allison Beasley of Western Colorado now out of the race [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] Ava o’ Conor continuing to lead from Adam State wearing HIP number nine cath Katherina gutel of Academy of Art solidly in second place there next two moving up Margo bassart of the Colorado School of Minds is now in that third position on the track go baby [Music] and we have seven leaders still pretty much in contention now with just under three laps to go you can see the damage that these barriers and water jumps do put on the athletes you may get over them cleanly you may struggle at the beginning but that does wear down on you through the 3,000 [Applause] M the foran Margot Thomas of CSU peblo leading that chase pack moving up now into fifth position trying to get into that top four to advance on the track but you see a little more separation at the front now Ava OK Conor again she’s run under 10 minutes this season so she is one of the favorites on the track gotel of the Academy of Art still comfortably in second now but no longer on o’ Conor’s shoulder [Music] [Applause] just over two laps remaining now Bart of Mines is currently third on the track iguns of slippery rock is fourth and Margot Thomas of CSU peblo is running in that fifth spot again the top four are in the next four are on the bubble till we get through Heat number two under two laps to go now for our leaders on the track again the idea is to qualify but not expend too much energy and saving yourself for a finals that will be in just less than 24 hours from now so just about 600 M to go now for our leaders and it is still AA o Conor of Adam [Music] [Music] State and coming towards you on the screen now for the penultimate time AA o’ Conor and you can see the four five now on this home stretch and there is the Bell lap for o’ Conor the big battle will always be for that fifth spot which will put you on the bubble and currently that fifth spot is Margot Thomas the Junior from CSU peblo hok Conor now with just the water jump and one barrier remaining she’s comfortably out there where she can concentrate get over the barriers and relax down on the stretch she’s not going to have to run a full Sprint to advance and she is through the final water jump alongside gotchel bassart and a bit of a struggle there for iims from Slippery Rock and Thomas but now you see them coming down the stretch for the final time gotel making a little run but again Place matters nothing here other than Pride wanting to finish first or [Applause] second and gotell is going to say all right I’m going to win this heat so she will be first OK Conor will be second and Marco Thomas is going to run up there from CSU Pablo she’s going to finish fourth so a strong finish for the French national as she will advance to the final Conor 10386 Iams of Slippery Rock 1033 59 Thomas 10 3528 and the bubble time is just finishing right now so four will advance by time so Bart at 10:35 hikes at 1040 Mitchell at 10:41 and that final bubble time and king of Colorado Christian 1101 so definitely a time that is reachable by the next Heat they are ready over on the far side of the track we are scheduled to see Landon Howell of Grand Valley Ela Davis from Western Washington Gracie Hyde from Adam State SRA Bo from Windgate Thalia Christian son from Wayne State mckenic kavanov from Lee Alexa Kaiser from sagov Valley Emily schulof from Adam State Casey ripma from Grand Valley and Marissa diatri from Chico State and very very slow pace out of the blocks and you can see as they make way around the curve here for this first time the closer they are bunched the slower the pace and that is Ela Davis of Western Washington with the hat wearing HIP number two she is leading but nobody is challenging her and Emily schulof of Adam State your tall Runner out there with the longest legs even she looks like she’s taking little bitty strides not wanting to push the pace at all as they get started here number four you see there crao of Windgate moving up on the outside as they cross their first barrier but they are well aware of the time so 1101 is the bubble time but that of course would be just for the one athlete 1035 87 Margo bassart is the first time qualifier at the moment at 1035 87 and as they come off the curve here again you might see that the women’s long jump is still underway there to the right side of the track from this shot we are almost done with our women’s long jump competition and we will give you updates of all of our final events at the conclusion of the meet they are in round five right now and just to update those big fans Nicole Warick of isua Pacific is our leader and on the runway she’s at 6 M 68 that’s 21 11 in she has been leading the women’s long jump competition the field starting to spread out just a little bit but Davis of Western Washington continuing out front Alexa Kaiser of sagov Valley is second and Marissa deatri and Emily schulof running in those third and fourth automatic spots at the time if you are the Casual track and field fan and you don’t get to watch a meet every weekend or even every year you can see that the form on the steeple chase has changed dramatically what used to be an automatic step on top of the hurdle barrier and push off has changed and now you see the majority of athletes at least at the beginning of the Races they will straight hurdle the barrier and not touch it at all [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] and you might hear a very excited crowd it’s tough to concentrate on One race but that’s why we love tracking field we’ll give you an update but just for those dying to know Nicole Warick of isusa Pacific on her fifth jump just went 6 M 81 that’s 22 4 and a quter u she’s got a plus 3.1 win behind her but you heard the excitement there that’s one of the great things about coming out to a track meet you you know we’ve got multiple things to watch the whole time this is getting to be later in the evening and we’ve only got two events going on at the same time but those fans of the women’s long jump are able to watch the long jump and have a race going on around the track and of course at peak times tomorrow and Saturday you could have as many as six or seven events going on at the same same time which is great as a spectator sometimes that’s hard on a coach if you’re trying to get in multiple places and obviously really hard if you are an athlete who is competing in a field event or two and a running event that are all relatively at the same time those of you who are more hardcore track fans you know that when you are successful at that it’s a pleasure to watch most of us will never forget the performance of Cordell tinch last year at the division 2 national championships from from athlete from pit State winning but not only winning competing in the high jump the long jump and the 100 meter hurdles virtually at the same time and capturing amazing finishes in all three and then turning pro and having a very successful season he’s a silver medalist at the indoor championships this year as a professional but as you’ve seen we’ve been talking about track but we’ve got good competition on the track in this women’s steeple chase this is again this is the second heat Davis of Western Washington and Kaiser of Sagen Valley have been running side by side out at the front and we’ve got Gracie Hyde now of Adam State and Marissa deatri running side by side in second and third we did lose yet another Athlete on the track Emily schulof after the 600 meters deciding that she either could not or did not want to complete her Steeple Chase and again so many of these athletes running in multiple races and they often have to make decisions not just before the events but during the events to see what they want to do so we’ve lost an athlete in each heat of this women’s Steeple Chase and that will benefit the bottom qualifiers by time and right now we’ve got our four leaders all together there on the course they’re automatically in if they finish in this order those front fours so it is that fifth sixth seventh and eighth Runners on the track that need to start thinking about time a little bit we’ve got just under three laps to go now on the track Davis Kaiser deatri and Hyde all running together at the front mckenic hav of Lee she is that key runner in fifth position right now and hopefully her coach is keeping her aware of her splits and her times as she runs to qualify for the finals Gracie Hyde there you see wearing HIP number three in the green of Adam State she’s got the fastest qualifying time this season she clearly the class of the field is far far as a season progression goes she’s not only only one of two athletes to break 10 minutes she’s broken 930 her fastest run this season 992817 so she is the favorite on the track there currently running second just wanting to qualify and conserve her time you see the four out front and then you do see Kavanagh from Lee Tennessee behind her as they have two laps to go now on this track and there you see our four leaders comfortably running together two by two and two by two and now that can get dangerous going over the barriers you do see Kaiser of sagov Valley running wide as they get to the hurdles they are in a comfortable enough position to take an extra step on the outside ensure their safety just about 500 M to go so now the concern for our leaders is to make sure they get over the barriers cleanly time means absolutely nothing as the top four will advance to a one section final tomorrow and you can see Gracie Hyde there looking over to her right getting some feedback from her coach or some support from her [Applause] fans but she does now take the lead again the safest position is always out front in a hurdle race or in a steeple chase and she with now a little bit of an acceleration heading down that back stretch for the penultimate time Kavanagh of Lee moving up she is a lot closer now to that fourth position on the track than she was just a lap or two [Applause] ago and sometimes when you feel the pressure coming you press just a little bit more and that’s when it is so dangerous to be going over a hurdle or a barrier and as if on Q Kaiser of sagov Valley now surging to the front and there is cavan on now you can see here in your picture so we’ve got one lap to go and there’s a Sprint here I’m not sure if they know they’ve got another lap to [Applause] go and I guess the bell ringer fooled us all it says one lap to go you see it on the screen there one lap to go but our lap counter must have been off because the athletes knew they knew they were done they were in a full-on Sprint I was looking at the LA good thing the athletes know what they’re going on that may have been what Hyde was talking to her coach about saying this is our final lap correct but they know so Kaiser’s going to win Davis second Hyde third dri third fourth they’re the automatic qualifiers Kavanagh is going to run 1040 that is Comfortably going to get her into the finals and and as we look at the compiled results there it looks like Maria Mitchell of Grand Valley State the sophomore runs 10:41 and that will be the F final qualifying time so that first heat definitely faster on the track but Kavanagh getting in so again we do invite you to follow along we appreciate you watching our live stream today and you’re going to get to see everything happening in real time but if you also go to the NCAA website you go to track and field click on division 2 you can click on the live results and you can get live results which include field events every jump every throw you can get upto-date standings and lap splits and check the leaders as they are running and get all the results just as fast as we are getting them up here in the Press [Applause] Box and this is the final long jump we can get a mark up there you heard the crowd they were very excited that was the final long jump of the competition so we’re going to go ahead and take a break in a sec but we’ll just give you an update there with Nicole Warick on the final jump it was a clean jump she’s already won the event so she cleared 681 last jump so we’re just going to see if she can improve on that last Mark you see her there she’s happy she knows she’s won a national championship but she’s got a very clean jump she doesn’t look like that last one is going to be better but she’s happy it’s 657 that is her third best jump of the day but you see our long jump Champion there Nicole Warick of isua Pacific so she’s happy everybody who’s watching for fans you’re happy we’ll give you the official results in our recap a little bit after our conclusion of the meet today we next event will be the 400 meter hurdles which are scheduled for a 740 start so we’ve got about 6 minutes on the track we’re going to go ahead and take a short break here we’ll be back with and welcome back to Zola Wht track at Welch Stadium on the campus of Emporia State University we’re here for day one of the 2024 NCAA division 2 men’s and women’s outdoor track and field championships it’s been a fantastic evening of preliminaries and as you see now on the track we are ready for the men’s 400 meter hurdles preliminaries we’re going to have three Heats and and here are your lane assignments as we get ready to start Quinton Workman of Cal State Los Angeles will be in two Steven Harris of Grand Valley in three Anthony Collins of Minnesota state in four Javon Riley of Claflin in five Josh Marlin of Academy of Art in six and Clarence McGill of Leno Ry in Lane seven gun is up for this first of three Heats in the men’s 400 meter hurdles we’re going to qualify here just the winner of each heat plus the next five fastest time so and again we’re we’re not going to have a clean start sounds to me as we watch these races get started and we’ve had so many warnings and you can see there the official signaling his ear the athletes are not hearing our starter so you can see the Stagger is somewhat wide here and what’s happening is the officials starters they’re using a sound system and what’s happening with the sound system if the speakers are not pointed exactly in the right direction the athletes are not hearing the command for set and so when the starter says set if they do not all come up the assistant starters will not necessarily fire a second gun but they will stop the start and make sure that everybody can hear with the course the goal being a clean and Fair start for everybody so no warning that time that was purely on the starters not being able to have their commands heard so we’ll go back into the blocks now with Workman Harris Collins Riley Marlon and McGill only the winner guaranteed a spot into the finals which the 400 meter hurdle finals are scheduled for Saturday at 4:10 and a clean start again in this 400 meter hurdles and you see the hurdles go flying but that is a trail leg so both of the hurdlers on the inside are hitting every other hurdle and they do slow you down they’re not meant to stop you but they do slow you down and Quinton Workman of Cal State Los Angeles is doing his best to inflict damage on the hurdles as he’s on the inside this is Javin Riley of Clin he o little stutter step there and that may cost him and then you see another athlete go down but the Survivor is Josh Marlin Academy of Art and he is going to be first across the finish line and track and field it’s not a forgiving [Music] sport but there you see Marlin of the Academy of Art he’s going to win that heat at 5148 so he is safely into the finals Riley Migel Harris and Workman all hoping to get in on time as they have to wait now and sit on the bubble for the next three two Heats of our 400 meter hurdles so there you see that Sprint to the finish line and again that is Marlin of Academy of Art who is first across the line now you are looking at the athletes getting set for Heat number two we’ve got ramsley exantus of Southern Connecticut State in two on the inside Kelsey montigue of Colorado Mesa in three alyso sual of calply Pomona in four sha Caan of St Augustine in five Ryan fields of Cal Poly Pomona in six Shere Hamilton of Lincoln in seven and fug gay of Grand Valley in Lane eight fastest qualifying time and the one we want to keep the eyes on are Ryan Fields he’s in Lane six so fields in six from calply Pomona the senior he is our only athlete with a qualifying time under 50 seconds Fields running 4996 this year and there you see Ryan fields on the left of your screen in the white over black he is the fastest qualifier this season so he will be the favorite Ryan fields of Cal Poly Pomona running in Lane six and there on your screen you see this nice scoreboard at the South End of the stadium that’s what the athletes are looking at as they come off the Curve and they’re running towards that finish line so especially in a multi-lap race they can just look up at that scoreboard and they can know exactly where they are and who is behind them and who is coming on there so they definitely use that to Advantage they like to have that Scoreboard on the south end or the Finish Line Zone and that is definitely helpful even in a race like this have they come off that last hurdle and they have a 40 yard 50 yard Sprint the Finish Line they can look up and see if anybody is coming off them and they do not have to turn their heads and it looks like we’ve got one more issue with our speakers you can see the officials there in the red those are the starters and he is still working on that speaker making sure that our athletes can hear the commands you can’t really see from this picture too much but wind has maybe picked up a little bit the flags on either side of our award stand are blowing in the wind you can see the football go post Flags they don’t look too disturbed by the wind but I believe down on the track it is definitely a little bit windy or at least windy enough that our athletes are having some trouble hearing the commands and you can see our starter does now have that microphone in hand and they’re happy that they’ve got it all working over the last few seasons the starters have changed their mechanics a little bit you see the two assistant starters in the red over on the far right side of your track they’re checking the placement of the hands so once they go to take their marks those two starters on the outside will walk up and down the field they’ll make sure that all of the athletes have their hands behind the line and once they get to the far inside and outside they will stop and then our starter will call them to their set position and a clean start in this second heat of the men’s 400 meter hurdles again the f fastest qualifying time in all three Heats is in Lane six right now and you can see that he is already made up a little bit of the [Music] Stagger Caan of St Augustine is in five he’s on the inside and it is kalaan who has the lead coming off the curve we’ll see what’s going to happen down the stretch F fields from calply Pomona in six he does have the fastest qualifying time but cawan taking it to him so Caan running his best time he’s going to win so a very fast time for him and he put it out there to Ryan Fields he says I’m going to win this second the second heat Fields is currently third overall at 5148 not guaranteed a spot in the that we don’t have seven athletes running faster than 418 so the veterans know what they’re doing out there on the track very little left to Chance in a meat of this magnitude especially by the upper classmen who have been there many times and of course now we will go to heat number three the new bubble time on the track is now 5262 and that is fug gay of Grand Valley State so he’s the nervous one on the track he is currently the fourth fastest qualifier or our fifth fastest qualifier the lane assignments for Heat number three [Music] we’re going to see Diego Chavez of Puerto Rico mayagu in lane two jadarius Pig of Missouri Southern in three Jake Johnson of Emporia State in four Kobi J Jimenez from fiso Pacific in five shares ham of Academy of Art in six Brendan Jackson of Ashland in seven and again you are hearing some extended cheers not only are they presenting awards for the women’s long jump but in Lane number four in this heat Jake Johnson from Emporia State running in front of his home crowd on his home [Applause] [Music] track Johnson with a time of 5165 this season so if he can manage to duplicate that time he would hopefully advance to the finals and give the home crowd something to cheer about on Saturday fastest qualifying time in this heat is Kobi Jimenez from Fresno Pacific he is in Lane five you see Johnson there in four and patiently waiting on his Lane indicator jadarius Pig of Missouri Southern in Lane three [Music] number and it looks like the sun has stopped to shine still light here but some darker clouds moving in looks like like we may expect some rain coming in from the south before the day is done but nothing expected until we have concluded our day one of competition this is the third heat of the men’s 400 meter hurdles qualifying heat winners plus the next five fastest times and they are clean away and jedarius pig of Missouri Southern quickly making up the Stagger down the backstretch again there’s little room for error and you see how tight that is that was Pig he was leading the race and he just clips that hurdle and down he goes and the frustration of any athlete who goes down in their final race but it continues on the track in first off the curve the Academy of Arts shares ham now leading big charge by himz of Fresno Pacific only the winner is guaranteed and there goes Jimenez shares ham of Academy of Art he is going to be the first one across the [Music] line hey Sam’s going to run 5120 Jackson of Ashlin 5257 Johnson from Emporia State 5265 and that is just going to miss making the finals the automatic qualifiers our qualifiers by time will be Fields Hamilton Riley Mcgill and Brendan Jackson of Ashland 5257 will be the last athlete to advance by time that’ll conclude the men’s 400 met hurdles we will now move over to our women’s 300 400 meter hurdles again three sections qualifying only the heat winners and you tell by watching that men’s race the margin of error is very fine hitting a hurdle doesn’t necessarily take you out of the competition but hitting one hurdle can throw off your stride pattern and make getting over the next hurdle more difficult and unfortunately for at least two athletes in that last race both in the lead on the track hitting a hurdle and going down and that is not something that you can recover from in the 400 meter hurdle race the hurdles being adjusted on the track now for the women’s 400 meter hurdles and as we look around the track it does look like Lane three may be now open but here are Lane assignments in lane two Chan Thomas from Lincoln Lane three is open Lane four Maria Diamond of Lincoln Lane five Shanny Jefferson from Mount Olive Lane six odisha Nanton from Lincoln and Lane seven Isabelle Flores from Belmont Abby [Music] and there is our athlete in Lane three so making final adjustments so don’t want to leave her out Lisa rellu from Harding the sophomore is now lined up in position and ready to go so From the Inside Out Thomas rellu Diamond Jefferson Nanton and Flores on the track first of three Heats in the women’s 400 meter hurdles again the athletes at their marks for a very long time as the assist starters Walk the Line and we’ll see what’s going to be there they called them up that I feel that one was on our starters that over there to go and check the four athletes on his side of the track and you know you ask these athletes to take their marks and then you make them sit in their blocks for a long time before calling them set and it again it does appear there’s going to be no card here and again they are taking their marks and a clean start again Thomas rellu Diamond Jefferson nanson and [Music] Flores down the backstretch Nanton of Lincoln appears to be the leader at least she’s the first one over the hurdle but she is on the outside of the track so we’ll see if she can keep her form up as she runs around the curve moving up on the inside Diamond of Lincoln three Lincoln athletes in this event and while there is no 4 by 400 meter hurdle relay we would have to say that Lincoln would stand a great chance right now on the track they may finish one 1 two three in this heat all from [Music] Lincoln that is going to be odisha Nanton of Lincoln she’s first across the line so she’s in at 5893 and Thomas will be third in that heat at 5970 so nanson diamond and Thomas run one two3 from Lincoln with nanon AO dramatically qualifying and diamond and Thomas leading the qualifiers by time Heat number two fatumata kabo of Angelo State will be in lane two elika lane of Minnesota state in three shurov from Hillsdale in four Rasha bedani of San Marcos in five Chrissy Sanders of UC CCs in six lucarious Toledo of Northwest Missouri in seven and Victoria aaman from Adam State she will be in lane8 and it looks like lane from Minnesota state will not be competing this time Lane three is not only vacant no hurdle no blocks in the lane so we know that that would be a scratch and this is the the athlete and coach in me you know wishing the the pace would hurry up here seems like our starters being very deliberate in their their actions of course the goal is to give everybody a fair and clean start at least the WEA we is still nice but our athletes standing at their blocks and in their blocks for a very long time this evening but now ready for this second heat of our women’s 400 meter hurdles again Cabo in two irof in four bani in five Sanders in six Toledo in seven and Amaya man in eight [Music] and with the scratch in Lane three that stagger appears to be very big but as they run down the backstretch on the outside amidan of Adam State and then on the inside of the track irof of Hillsdale look like they’re going over the hurdle at the same time and as they run around the inside of the curve now our leader on the inside shur irof of Hillsdale and moving very up quickly fatumata kabo of Angelo State now coming off the curve so three together running down the home stretch here only one has an automatic spot so we’ll see who gets over this last hurdle better and they are going to have a Sprint for the finish and on the inside that will be Cabo of Angelo State the sophomore she’s going to win the Heat so she will get the automat and you can see that again four runners under one minute for the heat two of the women’s 400 meter [Music] hurdles and there see the Finish there should not be the difference between making the finals or not as that qualifying time of irof in second overall so heat to definitely faster than Heat won with one and two still leading on the track but only the two first finishers of one of each heat are automatically in so our bubble time right now is Chan Thomas 5970 from Lincoln so she was the third Lincoln finisher in that first heat and she is the bubble time at 5970 third heat Kaa fer of Western in two Taylor saval of Fort Hayes in three Kylie Ray of Finley in four Isabelle Perez zogby of Cal Poly humble is in Lane five Brianna green of Fresno Pacific in six Abigail Reed of Emporia State in seven Natasha berett of seatan Hill is in eight so just as the Men final heat featured a local Runner Abigail Reed of Emporia State she is out in Lane seven trying to advance for the home [Music] team furor s Vol Ray Perez zogby green Reed and Bernett Lanes 2 through eight in this final heat with the time to beat on the bubble 5970 [Music] and that is Taylor saval of Fort Hayes state in lane two she is the first one over each hurdle on the first half of the race and appears to be the leader running the hurdles on the curve definitely a different skill than running them on the straightaway and the more inside you are the tighter the Curve so the track may be shorter but the hurdles are tighter coming off the curve that’s HIP number four it’s kyy Ray of Finley and that is saval of Fort Hayes just inside of her again the winnner in the bubble time is 597 in 5915 and it looks like our bubble time last qualifier is going to be Rasha badani of San Marcos 5957 and she will make the finals once again the finals are scheduled for a 420 start on Saturday so that was our last flight of the hurdles and as our hurdle crew clear the track we will get ready for our final two races on the track this evening and they are finals it’ll be the men’s 10K that is scheduled for an 810 start so current track time is 8:07 central time so we are just right on schedule we’ll bring out our 10,000 meter competitors and they are making their way onto the track at this time it’ll be followed by the women’s 10K at 850 and that’ll get us through day one temperature is still a very comfortable 81° here in Emporia not a whole lot of wind just looking at the radar just a few storms popping up to the south of here not expecting them to reach Emporia or any rain until maybe much later this this evening or early in the morning so the weather looks clear 81° some of the athletes in this 10,000 will tell you that’s a little bit warm still but they do have a breeze that will keep them just a little bit cooler men 10 men’s 10,000 M on the track it’s going to be 25 laps around the oval and plenty of time to get to know our athletes and catch you up with all of our competition if you’re a distance running fan you will enjoy the next hour and a half or so of competition men’s 10K just getting ready to begin we are scheduled for 19 athletes to be competing including our defending Champion Jan Lucas Becker from Mississippi College won this event last year and if you were watching us you remember that was a very exciting finish where he came from back in the pack to take over running at altitude in Pueblo Colorado he ran 29 4771 last year in Pueblo to win it this year he’s run 2840 and does have the third fastest qualifying time also in the field last year’s third fourth fifth sixth place finishers and a great field on the track so we’re just about ready to start you can see they are in their double alley so we’ll go ahead and not miss the start of this we’ll hear their commands and then we’ll bring you the lineup of the 19 people scheduled to be competing in this and maybe it looks like they’re not ready they’re all getting a run out on the track so here we go scheduled to be competing today are Harry laidor from West Texas A&M Josh Paton from Colorado Christian Paul knight from Colorado School of Mines William aansa from West Texas A&M he does have the fastest qualifying time this year 28 flat Braden mlin of Chico State Lucas Earl from Wate JP rutage from Colorado School of Mines anonine St Pierre from Windgate junan FY from Colorado School of Mines Matthew Storer from Colorado Christian Dayton Brown from Adam State Dawson gun from mines Logan bovich from mines John Lewis John Yan Lucas Becker from Mississippi College as we said he is our defending Champion Cass cops from Windgate Jo jph mey josephat meley from Harding Sam Wilhelm from Alabama Huntsville will Atkin from Windgate and Hamza Chad from Windgate that is the scheduled field chahed from Windgate is our 5,000 meter Champion indoors these athletes not necessarily enjoying a 5,000 m race indoors on a 200 met track and definitely would not be about K indoors but they’re outside now many of them running the 5K which will be held on Saturday evening but again for this 10K and not quite sure why we aren’t ready to start this ready the officials holding them up making sure we do have all of our lap counter officials down there and again now it looks like they are getting them lined up again a double water fall start and now it looks like they’re changing [Music] that definitely some confusion going on down here at the start we have five athletes now on the outside at the second waterfall and again not sure why we are delaying the start of this race on the track waiting getting a little frustrated down there but we are clearly I guess we are checking on the weather as mentioned there is a storm coming in from the south and there is lighning in that cloud so if there a lightning strike within the region not sure exactly what that official region is usually it’s right around 8 Miles if lightning strikes within 8 Miles we would hold the race and now I can see the head of officials down there walking around with his phone checking that radar so that is what happened we are monitoring this storm and if the storm to the South and the west of here if that lightning strike is within our danger region we will go ahead and hold off on this race so I’m sure they’ll make a decision soon if if the lightning is here they’re not going to keep the athletes out on the track and but the worst thing that could possibly happen would be start the race and then have lightning strike and injur an athlete the next worst thing that could happen is start the race and have to stop the race in the middle of it so they don’t want to start this race knowing that this is going to take them 30 minutes and have that storm roll in during those 30 minutes and have to stop the race so they’re still discussing it and we will give you an update just as soon as we know what is going on but you can see there they are talking about the the race and now it looks like lightning within the range here so that means we’ve got a calls on the 10 the men in the AR are no stranger we are going to enter a lightning delay at this point so you can see now the athletes being taken away from the starting line and we can hear RPA asking all Spectators to also take shelter so we are officially now going to enter a lightning delay so we’ll give you any updates along the way but generally you know how that works when lightning strikes within 8 Miles we do have to wait for 30 minutes from the last strike and of course these athletes they’re going to need to warm up again so we are in a delay you can see everybody now taking heading towards taking shelter either in their cars or in the Press Box we’re going to take a break at some point but uh we’ll try and keep you up to dat also you can follow along on the NCAA website hopefully we will also be able to get some results up there but looking at the radar there are a series of three so welcome back here to Emporia Kansas we are currently in a lightning DeLay So we are down to our final two races of the evening it’s the men’s 10,000 and the women’s 10,000 and as you know the 10,000 MERS is going to take at least 30 minutes to run so the storm that is just to the South and the west of here does have lightning in it and the lightning has struck within our 8 mile or less radius and we know that that storm is going to continue to come this way and better than stopping a race in the middle of it we have gone ahead and gone into a lightning delay you you can see the award stand even has been cleared of all of its pump and Circumstance everybody’s putting everything away on the track we have not received any official word but we are in a delay So the plan right now is still we’re going to run these 10,000 meter races tonight but you all know the drill once lightning strikes we’re going to take at least a 30 minute break we’re going to see how fast these storms go through or if the lightning dissipates if it’s just rain we can run our 10ks but as long as there is the threat of lightning we will not run these races but many athletes wanting to get this race done this evening because they have the 5,000 on Saturday or another race so every effort will be made to make this race happen tonight it is currently 8:20 central time we are in a minimum of a 30 minute delay we know that that will be longer these athletes will need time to warm up again but everybody here in the stadium has as been been asked Emporia State Facility you can see our stadium is pretty clear the officials now just taking their belongings with them and finding safety so we will try and give you updates frequently um you can probably get on the NCAA website or follow along on social media but we are going to be in a break the only two events that we have not completed this evening are the men’s 10,000 and the women’s 10,000 meter runs we’ll go ahead and take a break and we’ll keep you updated and welcome back to Emporia Kansas we are recovering from our brief delay on the track with lightning and rain in the area but we are all good to go now with our men’s 10,000 meters here on Zola Wht track at Welch Stadium this is the 2024 NCA division 2 men’s and women’s outdoor track and field championships we had beautiful weather all day and getting to the final two events of the evening the men’s and women’s 10K just a few storms coming in from the south with some lightning so we did have a delay we are back and you can see that the men are now lined up at the starting line and this is going to be a quick relaunch and there is the gun so we are now underway with this men’s 10K goal is to get this men’s 10K in follow followed by the women’s 10K which is now scheduled for a 10:05 or a 1010 start and hopefully get those in before any other storms might roll in these are the final two events of the first day of the NCA track and field championships here and every other event was completed in good weather so we’ve never actually had any athletes competing in difficult weather just the threat of that lightning coming through in the middle of this race that may take us up to 30 minutes to complete so had the delay we’re back on the track and you can see now as they come around the first lap this is William aansa of West Texas A&M he has the number one time in the country this year and he is leading this stacked field and as the field closes a little bit they’re going to go through their first 400 just about 66 on the clock so that is a very quick opening lap and as the field starts to catch him we can tell you that this field has nine athletes that you see there have run under 29 minutes so far this season and that is an incredible amount of athletes to be running that fast together and posa definitely with the fastest time he’s run 28 flat 09 so he has the number one seed time um our number two SE time also coming in in the mid 28 minute range so he’s got the fastest time by 35 seconds looks like our second fastest time is Dayton Brown the senior from Adam State 2835 Shahed run 2837 he’s the 5K indoor Champion so plenty of speed there if it comes down to a Sprint at the end currently sitting in that third spot on the track that is John Lucas Becker he’s our defending champion from Mississippi College he’s run 2840 this year and he is one to watch out for as he strategically won that race last year so we are just through our first two laps as they head down the backside of this 25 laap race and as that field spreads out you can tell that that extra a little bit of rest some freshness in the air it’s still quite warm out there on the track um no excuses not to run fast tonight now they’ve got this race in most of these athletes coming back on Saturday to run the 5,000 but any concern of this being delayed till tomorrow is now gone and every athlete able to run their full potential this evening again our overall all weather delay just about an hour and 20 minutes for our athletes so they did need to stay loose and and warm up again to get ready for this run but as you know with most highlevel distance Runners the warm-up that they need is not going to be drastically affected by a weather delay knowing that they can get back out there and compete many these athletes will complete a 5 or 10K and then go ahead and do a warm down of the considerable length as well to match with that just looking at the temperature we’re currently at 77° so not much of a drop when we went into our rain delay it was about 82 83 degrees so the temperature has not dropped at all but may help these a just a later in the evening completely and the eyes are dark but it hasn’t stopped our top four from setting a pace on the [Applause] track we’ve got William Jr from West Tex he is still the pace Setter Matthew Colorado Christian Josh Paton his teammate from Colorado Lucas Becker rounding out that top four on the track the lead Becker won this race last year in the altitude of PUO Colorado he ran 29 4771 somewhat a strategic race as he was not at the front until the latter stages of the race when he took off and was able to come from back and pass the leaders to capture that title again now a small surge by aansa from West Texas A&M through the first five laps now with 20 laps correction the last four laps with 20 so he’s at 534 through the first 1600 534 for the first 1600 for aansa moving up into that lead group that is josephat Melly from Harding he has the number six seated time this year just a freshman from Harding and he has actually passed through the number 234 Runner and now he is running in second place by himself and trying to catch up and make contact with aansa and you see just the turnover of aansa at the front doesn’t have the longest legs on the track but he has that incredible turnover and he has just been running at that pace since the beginning his first 400 just about 66 and he has followed it up with 66 66 67 67 so aona has clearly said I am the leader in this race I have run 28 flat I am going to make you catch me and now that is Melly who has come on and caught him so we’ll check melly’s split for that last 400 he also had run 66 66 66 66 and another 66 for Melly so he has been the most consistent Athlete on the track while that second group just a 70 and 71 second 400 meter splits and you can see how that second pack has now dropped back a little bit so we have our two Breakaway Runners our three Chase pack and then you see what we’ll call our pelaton for now with eight Runners running on the track together just ahead of our final pack that is at the back so the runners getting their spread out as they will have 18 laps to go when they pass our start Finish Line soow you can see on the camera those are our two leaders now with roughly a 50 yard difference on two three and four but the rate of leg turnover is just incredibly different when you can see them all on the track and you see our leaders now around the curve on the top and they are extending their lead over the runners behind them but it is still and pasana running doing all the work and Melly quite content The Freshman from Harding to sit behind him and with the longer arms longer legs just following the shorter Runner with the quicker Pace Melly picking up some water on that backstretch again still a very warm evening out there not yet into the deep humidity of the summer in Emporia but 76° on a day that was 85 comfortably warm unless of course you are a distance Runner who prefers it to be on the chillier side so nine flat at the 3200 100 met Mark so for both of our leaders through the first 3200 at n flat Pace slowing a bit their last two quarters 69 seconds each so the pace has slowed for everyone but it has slowed down the least amount for our top two on the track and as we watch them going down the backside their lead over that chase group now is just about 55 yards by measured on the football field our second four on the track Storer peraton Becker and Shahed hamsa chahed of Windgate now moving up to join that group he is the 5,000 meter Champion indoors this season so he definitely has some foot speed as compared to the rest of the runners on the track but they are that second group on the track and then Dayton Brown Lucas erel Sam Wilhelm Duncan feni Logan bakovic and Paul Knight are in that next group closing in on the chase pack so we may get the big group back together again relatively soon but no slowdown at the front there for our two leaders aansa and Melly again imp pansa running 28 flat this season which is 30 seconds better more than 30 seconds better than any other Athlete on the track at this time the junior being followed by The Freshman so Jose fat meley The Freshman from Harding not quite sure maybe what he is capable of he’s run 2838 this season but clearly feeling good enough right now to follow aansa around the track just over 15 laps now to go that means 10 laps down 15 to go so not quite yet nearing the halfway point but coming through at [Music] [Applause] 1122 and now as we said that Chas pack a much bigger group nine runners in that chase pack back now followed by another two and one individual and then another group of Runners trailing on the track but still maintaining a fairly good pace and there you see aansa picking up his water both athletes picking up water not choosing to drink it but just to dump it on their heads to keep them cool again slight hum humidity here in Emporia Kansas but enough to get these 10,000 M Runners needing to cool off the last lap was 71 so keeping a pretty strict Pace just slowing down by maybe 1 second each of the last couple of laps and as they cross the start finish line for the 11th time we’ll go ahead and check their splits 717 on the last 400 [Applause] m and if you’re following along on the official meet results you can see the splits on there if you haven’t been there yet you can go ahead and go to the NCAA website go to track and field click on division two and on the splash page there you can find the live results that will give you the splits for all these races 71 seconds for aansa and Melly 7273 seconds for the chase pack so again maybe starting to pull away just a little bit more again nine runners in this race running under 20 9 minutes this season and with the great field on Tow and the national championship at stake no reason to expect that any of these Runners will be holding anything back if they are running in the 5,000 MERS on Saturday a full day of recovery now knowing that they got this race in in the evening another seven 71 second split for our leaders and another 72 second split for that chase pack so they’re not getting closer the leaders are stretching it out just a little bit they are about 100 yds ahead of the third place Runner and they are about 100 yds behind the last runner on the track as they will soon start lapping Runners and hopefully that not causing any issues on the track but yes just about 85 yards behind the trail runner on the track so our leaders as now they come through they have 12 laps to go 1455 on the clock at the 5200 meter Mark 15 minutes even chase pack now being led by Lucas Errol of Windgate and Dayton Brown of Adam State the defending champion John Lucas Becker still in the field there and again he came from back last year to win but not this far back right now all the athletes on the chase pack here looking for a third place finish not to say that they don’t have time to catch our leaders but no indication yet yet of our leaders slowing down at all Dayton Brown of Adam State now pushing that pace just a little bit more eight Runners about 110 yards behind our leaders and there is our first crack at some separation so you see now as they have 11 laps to go William aansa has broken away and he is he has left J fat Melly just a little behind the last lap before this they were back down to a 702 400 m split and now this is where he has made his move and pansa down to 69 while Melly almost a 71 second 400 so there is the first sign of a lapped runner and you can see the speed of the turnover there William aansa just flies by the runner on the track that he is lapping and you can see the distance now that he has extended over Melly currently running in second so the the runner in the middle is is a lap behind are two leaders on the track and now just as you look to the other side of the track you see third place Runners they are now about 130 40 yards behind so this has become aon’s race to lose we’ll see what kind of a time he’s running for he has run 28 flat this year 10 laps to go and he’s at 1716 at the 6,000 meter Mark for aansa so you hardcore distance coaches can do the math much quicker than I can do but at the 6,000 meter Mark is [Music] and pona clearly with a breakaway now and as he is starting to lap additional Runners on the track we shall make sure that we keep everything straight 1714 63 at the 6,000 meter Mark he ran another 69 second quarter so he is clearly keeping his Pace Melly slowing to a 73 Dayton Brown of Adam state with a 72 so that chase pack in third position now starting to close a little bit on Melly in second but our leader pulling away now with under nine laps to go so 757 there you see him in the lead on the track now with one two three runners between him and second play another lap Runner before we get our Chase pack here and now the chase pack almost a whole 200 M behind our leader on the track they now under nine laps to go at 1852 and pona with absolutely no indication of slowing down at all in fact every lap he has run so far on the track has been either 69 or 71 seconds so very consistent running here with that leg turnover just keeping him moving along and he’s down till his final eight laps to go so if he can keep that pays his first eight laps nine flat and if he can run another nine [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] flat he’s going to be right about 2834 line but again while he’s hoping for a good time obviously the first goal is to win the race and our top three well spread out on the track now as our leader comes off the curve there’s our second place Runner that is J fat Melly of Harding and he is just at the peak of the curve on the North side here is aansa see the gri on face over so at the lap Mark I would say that is a 50 50 meter lead maybe 55 meter lead for [Music] for Adam state that is still Dayton Brown leading a pack of eight Runners all battling right now for that third position and they have fallen further behind Melly and I guess we may have a challenge from aansa to see if he can catch up he’s just about 200 yards now ahead of the chase pack which means he is also 200 yards behind them if he is trying to trace them and track them down and lap them so clearly two Runners right now dominating this race a Chase pack of eight Runners battling for for third place and through the remaining All-American [Music] [Applause] positions and there you see the chase pack just running across that Finish Line they’ve got six laps to go and the all green jersey there of Dayton Brown you can see that’s the chase pack they are also lapping Runners they are just about 200 met behind our leader so they’ll head down the backstretch now you can see that’s the chase pack and then back on this home stretch there is our leader on the track and that is William aansa so half the track lead for aansa as he continues to run and as he crosses that start Finish Line with five laps to go he has roughly a Now 60 to 65 meter lead on Jo J fat Melly of Harding so there’s not much change with our leaders on the top so for them now the concern is you know getting through this final five six laps on the track our Chase group here we may end up with the most exciting part of the race as they still start to sift their ways out Lucas Earl of Windgate now moving back into the lead of that chase group while Dayton Brown of Adam State falls back at some point now in these final five laps that group is going to break up and we’re going to see who feels strong enough to run for bronze again that first runner you see there has been lapped so that second group is still picking off Runners as they go and pona not really struggling much on the track there’s the chase group so you see they have spread out single file now so they’re going to take turns and let Earl take over and do all the pushing sitting third in that group there that’s our defending champion John Lucas Becker so he is about in that same position he was last year but could spring and win it this time he is not really in contention for first or second but he is lurking there we know he has a strong finish Sam Wilhelm of Alabama Huntsville currently in second he’s got the backwards hat on there and then that is Josh Paton of Colorado Christian fourth in that group and sixth overall right now on the track under four laps to go for our leaders and the initial Chase pack and keeping an eye on our lap counter down there a little bit of confusion in one of our earlier races But Here Comes aansa he has three laps to go William andona three laps to go 2533 on the clock so still on Pace for around a 2830 10K which under ideal conditions might seem a little slow for the Junior from West Texas A&M since he’s run 28 this year but under the conditions of the national meet we’re assuming he’ll be trying to double up a 2830 mark would still be faster than the fastest of any of the other athletes on the track 72 second last 400 for aansa Melly at 74 and this Chase pack at 73 so again everybody’s maintaining the same Pace as they sit on the track it’s just a matter of navigating your way through the field when you get to laped Runners and again that chase group now down to seven they have shaken Adam States Dayton Brown so he now in danger of not getting a Podium finish but we are under our final 800 meters now for our leader so he sees the end in sight you’re looking at Jose fat Melly he’s in second place safely in second place as it looks at this time with two laps to go this may now be the most exciting part of the race this is going to be on the home stretch here our Chase pack and again that is still Lucas early of Wingate Windgate with quite a few runners in this final but Windgate and his teammate oh it looks like wi Gate’s the only one runner in this group that’s the group that we’re kind of keeping in ey on they’re running for third fourth fifth and there you see the move HIP number 14 John Lucas Becker he won this event last year much similarly he ran with the group till the last two laps and then he took off so he has made his move he is trying to get third here comes the Bell lap 2754 we’re on the Bell lap for our leader William aansa coming off the curve for the penultimate time we’ve got josephat Melly so he’s just got just over lap and here comes the chase pack and John Lucas Becker we’ve seen him do it before they are about 80 yds back of second place but they are surging so now the chase pack with one lap to go but we’re going to look just at our leader now he’s on the North curve for the final time William impon the Junior from West Texas he led from the gun he has led the entire time he is coming off the curve now for the final time you can see it’s hurting he has not let up one bit his last 400 was 70 seconds so he is going to win this race it’s not going to be his fastest but he has worked very hard here and he is going to be just about 29 flat but that is going to be good enough to win the race second place our silver medalist Jose fat Melly from freshman from Harding he now coming off the [Music] curve and while he coasts in just behind [Music] him that is Sam willham from Alabama Huntsville he has done that surge he is looking to get bronze John Becker has fallen back Duncan feny of the Colorado School of Mines is going to get fourth place and now you can see the remembrance of that chase pack finishing up on the track so andona 29 2924 willhelm with the fastest 400 on the track splitwise he runs 6210 on his final lap to move up and take bronze he’ll finish at 2933 feny runs 6 3 second last 400 he’s at 2935 Storer Becker early all running 6667 last 400s so they had the fastest finish but they were too far behind and there you see our winner now recovering as the majority of the field is finishing up but still lots of Runners on the track but you’re looking at William aansa from West Texas State he is going to have won this first 10 K in 29 flat 47 track time is just about 10:00 here in Emporia Kansas so that means we are about 10 minutes 5 minutes 10 minutes away from finishing up with our women’s 10K the women are all down there at the head of the straightaway warmed up and ready to go just waiting for our athletes on the track to finish we survived the delay of a lightning storm never had too much rain here all of our field events and other delay we did have to pull the men’s 10K they were at the starting line before they were pulled off and just about an little over an hour delay has gotten them back on and they are now complete our last Runners just finishing up on the track and again if you don’t see the results of your Athlete on the screen there you can go to the official results you can go to the live results page on the ncaa.com website and you can get the official splits for all of your athletes as this race is now and there you see the women making their way down the straightway now to the starting line I believe we’re going to have a 10:05 start so just about four or five minutes away but you can see them enjoying the fact that they have some good weather to run in just like the men they’re going to have a relatively warm evening temperature has dropped about 3° since we restarted after the lightning delay currently app saying it is 76 Dees here with relative humidity not the worst humidity these athletes will have run in but not the high and dry altitude of Pueblo Colorado where they ran last year so looking at the field now for this women’s 10,000 meters we do not have a defending champion in this race but we do have Brianna robbles who finished second last year she was also second in the indoor 5K and one of the better runners in the country representing Adam State Brianna robbles always seem to finish second on the track so maybe this will be a good luck charm for her that there is no clear number one the fastest qualifying time this season 3252 54 that’s Florence OR Jenea the senior from West Texas A&M and you know that she has been around for a while and has many great races she was first at the indoor 5K she was third last year she does have the fastest time at 3252 Robles 3303 this year again she was second in the indoors and has the second fastest qualifying time also returning Place finishers Podium finishers from last year Zoe Baker of Colorado School of mins was fifth precious Robinson of Adam state was seventh Elizabeth Walmsley of Hillsdale was eighth last year so four returning five returning Place finishers from last year four runners under 34 flat this season so we said Ur Jenea had the fastest time Broz the second Kylie anich of Edinburgh she’s run 3325 this year and anuka El of Seattle Pacific 3341 so we’re underway this is women’s 10K this is the last event of the day and we’ll see how this race shapes up will it be the Strategic we’re going to run in a pack or will we see our favorites make a break and take an early lead and see if they can run again after the delay about an hour 10 hour 15minute delay athletes the women probably weren’t completely warmed up before the delay they had the opportunity to watch the men compete while they were warming up so they have been out longer to know how they feel in this type of situation we do have plenty of water available on that backstretch and you saw the men taking advantage of it so much not to drink but to douse themselves with it [Applause] HIP number three that is anuka esvelt of Seattle Pacific so she is our leader on the track as she brings them through that first 400 they are going to run just about 82 seconds on that first 400 for the leaders officially in 8228 for anich the leader on the track Briana Robles again that seems like she has more silver medals in her collection than any other color and currently running in that second position on the track for Adam state esvelt and robbles running together anic running third in the white on red but you can see no stragglers and no clear Breakaway so the women all running together Florence orena from West Texas currently in fourth position and that looks like Madison clay from Kataba moving up into fifth along with Adam State precious Robinson so all the contenders still there at the front and no stragglers off the backside as they’ve come through their first 800 M 243 for the leader 244 for that first group on the track so we’ve established that they are going to run about an 81 82 second Pace to start off this 10K the good news is with the let up in the weather we’re going to be able to present our 10K Place finishers with their Awards tonight nobody’s going to have to wait for their trophies and medals in the morning day two of the NCA division 2 men’s and women’s outdoor track and field championships get underway tomorrow morning at 9:30 as our multi-events will continue the decathlon 110 meter hurdles scheduled for 9:30 start then they’ll move to The discus at about the same time the heptathlon long jump begins at 10:30 our field events beginning at 1:30 with the men’s discus at 3:30 with the men’s high jump our women’s discus at 4:30 women’s triple jump at 4:45 we will be streaming to you live at 5:30 p.m. with the men’s 200 so an evening live stream tomorrow doesn’t get underway until 5:30 we’ll have the preliminaries in the 200 the 800 the 110 M hurdle we’ll have the finals in a steeple chase 7:15 and 730 and then of course we’ll have preliminaries for the 4×400 meter relays tomorrow evening that will close out day two and then on Saturday May 25th we’ll have a full day beginning at 10:30 with the men’s javelin first event on the track at 2:00 and our final race of 2024 NCA D2 championships the women’s 4×4 schedule for a 600 p.m [Music] start so as they finish up their first 1600 on the track Briana robbles is our leader still running side by side with anuka esvelt of Seattle Pacific they’ll come through the 1600 meter Mark just about 531 or it looks like a little faster than that our official Timing System says 528 75 so the splits for the leaders have been 81 81 82 82 and they’ve lost a few off the back but still the majority of our field all running together at that pace again as you see the field go by you can always look out for your Runners and if you get on to the official results page not only can you see the splits as soon as we do you can follow along for field events and you can get live results of each throw and each Mark literally as fast as we do here at the stadium currently running in third and fourth place back there Florence uena of West Texas A&M and that is Kylie anic Madison clay of Kataba who has moved up into that fourth position so they’re enjoying running 2 by two running nobody’s running too far outside of Lane one nobody’s picking up the extra distance crowded in there but they are used to it jostling around in this 10,000 m in the 5,000 much similar to expect on Saturday afternoon although they will break out sooner but you can see our first five there going down the backstretch and it’s not so much that the leaders May pick up the pace it’s that the middle of that pack can’t keep the pace so if our leaders go out there and can maintain that pace for the next 20 laps we’ll see who can hang with them and be in contention for those Podium spots coming off the curve Brianna robbles of Adam state [Music] and now that side by side becoming a bit more single file running as Road blz brings them by with 19 laps to go now and they have picked up the pace just about an 80.8 eight for Robles 8.89 for o and janesa so the pace has picked up at the front and that has not broken the lead pack but it has thinned it out a little bit again 10K on the track 25 laps most of these athletes will be back on Saturday to run the 5,000 so they are quite happy to be completing this 10,000 tonight and having that day of rest whenever that bad weather comes in on a Friday Thursday night you’re always worried about having to continue the race on Saturday but not so here Madison clay of Kataba HIP number 10 there the red on black you can see her moving up into fourth position on the track as that crowd thins out even a little bit more with each lap but still 18 laps to go nobody’s going anywhere just yet 80 Seconds for the previous 400 back down to an 82 83 seconds for this one so maybe just a test the leaders pick up the pace they’ll run a little faster 400 and see how the crowd reacts the field is there but the question is how hard are they trying to stay up with the leaders and what did that fast lap in the middle of this race do to the rest of the field down the backstretch you can see they have the opportunity to grab a cup of water but none of our leaders taking advantage of that yet 14 Runners I count in this lead group all still technically in contention we know our favorites setting the pace and deciding how fast they want to run that’s the first half of that group but the rest of that group they’re hanging right now they are not necessarily running for a gold but running for a personal best running for a Podium finish and a medal or just to help their teams score team points and help that team championship we know that two of our favorite teams have Representatives out front with Adam State West Texas A&M always in the battle to be in the top three teams individually so you never know when a race like this and a significant one or two-point change might make the difference in that team standings currently in in fifth place that is Kayla dishan from Stannis first time we’ve had her in that lead group along with Zoe Baker of the Colorado School of Minds now pushing her way into that front group we’re down to 12 now in this pack you see the two off the back so much like cycling it’s setting that pace and keeping it going and then sooner enough when you are the leader you turn around and there are fewer behind you but we know some of these athletes thinking now as they have 16 more laps around the oval they’re gauging how they’re feeling we’ll see at some point somebody will make either another surge again once they feel that they can finish off the race we’re through 36008 82 seconds on that last 400 met split for the leaders again robbles of Adam state in the green has set the pace in the rest of the field letting her do most of the work or Jan of West Texas A&M finishing up her fantastic and amazing career she is just sitting on the shoulder she may be saving her best finish for last esvelt from Seattle Pacific clay from Kaba dishan from Stannis La State Baker of the Colorado School of Mines anic from Edinburgh is still in the lead group Elizabeth Walmsley from Hillsdale Hannah Hartwell from Fort Lewis najua K Kura from Stannis La State precious Robinson from Adam State hanging on at the back there along with Molly Maxon of the Colorado School of Mines that is this lead group and as they hit their start Finish Line here this will be the 4,000 meter Mark so they are still a ways off from the halfway point in this race but we have just about have the field and at the 4,000 meter Mark robl 13 4921 but the pace has slow dramatically just about a 902 400 met split so the entire group has slowed down and you can see that is why they are now again bunched up and running two and even three across so we have our two Chase Runners they are going to see if they can get back in touch that was Michaela Jones of Kataba and iresh Molina of Chico State they are trying to again get contact with with our leaders as the group has slowed down dramatically almost a 7 second drop in that last 400 and again packed up so you see the strategy of a 10,000 meter race it’s not just like a road race where we go [Music] off and they see what they can do this is aate IC race cuz they will see each other at all times and again we are back with the group they have made contact so we have a Hu oh you have a big group you see almost look like somebody stumbled there all it takes is a step on a heel and a tumble and if it’s in the middle of that group that could be danger for everybody so it’s always good to be on the inside in the front because nobody’s going to fall down in front of you but another slower 400 m 93 seconds so we went from running consistent 8281 to 89 and now 93 so the pace has slowed dramatically but as you watch them come down the backstretch they may have started to pick it up again but definitely a race of Peaks and valleys as far as the pace time goes and the last two laps were the slowest two of the race so far 133 this will play into the hands of the finishers the fastest finishers if you feel like you’ve got some foot speed you’re quite content for that pace to go slowly but they were going fast early so we’ll have to see who has enough strength left as we hit our 4800 m markk so we are just about half a lap away from the midpoint on this race and that’ll give us a good idea of they’ll know the exact Pace they are on at the Midway point in this race and then they can decide based on how they feel they they content to run together or is somebody going to go ahead and make their move for our seniors this is their last 10,000 meter championship at the ncaas and you do not want to miss an opportunity so this is approaching the Midway point they are 5,000 met on the track at 1726 and that was would be a pace of about 35 flat so nobody’s going to run their season best today unless we see a dramatic change in the second half of this race but you can see there all right let’s go to the award Podium and wi of the presentation for the top eight performers in the men’s 10,000 me again we have women for a moment and then we will start with our eigh place finisher today hard earned effort there in a 29464 Tony finish from wind 29 39 there you see some of the chase pack on the 2994 Mississippi your F finish with a new personal b 29 38 27 from Colorado Christian Matthew precious Robinson of Adam State off the back of the front pack she is now the leader in the chase pack that is remaining so 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 n 10 athletes up there so the pace has picked up again they’ve dropped four and we’ve got 10 Athletes In Contention and you can see those at the back also now starting to struggle and say is this something that they can keep up with at this pace and signs can be deceptive some athletes feeling quite comfortable even though they may look like they are struggling and some managing to look calm and collected but internally they are struggling and you know that they may not have enough left you see the jostling there every once in a while somebody having to reach up and push somebody out of the way nobody wants to get boxed in and you can see now that as they are running side by side it is starting to get a little physical down there especially as they will soon start lapping Runners on the track she’s now pressed a couple laps but we are through 6,000 M 193 two the pace has come back down a little bit we had that one lap that was 93 seconds for our leaders then back down to 84 81 84 so they have picked the pace up again and that is somewhat difficult for some athletes some athletes would definitely come out and prefer to run the same pace for the entire 10K this speedy beating up slowing down has definitely taken its toll on the pack and maybe another break here five but the nine the but next four come back so we’ve got nine so we have lost another one Molly Maxon of the Colorado School of Minds has dropped from that first group as we look at the rest of the field they are all spread out on the track now in groups of two or solid Terry Runners nine of our original 20 are running together at the front and it looks like 10 other Runners so we may have lost one not sure at the start if everybody started but we may have lost one athlete but we’ve got nine at the front and now maybe another break we’ve got five Runners now with maybe a 5yd lead you see one trying to cross the Gap this is when they start to put the hammer down if they feel it and the last thing any Runner wants to do is find themselves in no man’s land in between definitely easier to run alongside some one in a group but just when you think they’ve shaken those last four the first five slow down again and the pack is again nine they have nine laps to go nine Runners at the front and we may not get the fastest Time of the Season but we’re definitely going to get a fantastic [Music] finish as they are now under their original Pace again 84 seconds on the last 400 and sometimes you have to wonder is it Robles who’s setting the pace with speeding up and slowing down or is it the fact that those front three U Jenea and Robles and esvelt are running together and controlling the pace most of these athletes have run against each other enough at the big meets at the national meets at the indoors and Outdoor National Championships they know each other so it’s not like they’re running against people they have never seen They Know Each Other’s strengths they hope they know each other’s weaknesses their coaches are giving them their splits and strategy and we’re going to see six go across the line together so we may have dropped three on that last lap and just when you think that that pace may slow and they come back to you they kick it up a notch and we’ll see where these favorites want to go with it it does look like the front four now have accelerated just a bit so we’ve got four going down the backstretch with two chasing and then another two so they are starting to fall off the back we still have Banna robbles setting the pace we still have Florence uena from West Texas A&M on her shoulder those two have controlled this race we’ve got anuka esvelt from Seattle Pacific who has been there since the beginning and then we’ve also got Zoe Baker of the Colorado School of mindes that is our first four so if they choose not to slow down I don’t know that they are going to fall back to the next group currently in fifth place you can see her that is Kylie anix of Edinburgh but the next two are falling back with every lap it looks like now our front four have decided that it is time to start to move 259 on the clock so they’re going to come through their 7200 Mark they have picked up the pace again 82 seconds 83 seconds for those first four on the track and now clear separation so what was nine just a lap and a half ago is now down to four and we are going to have an exciting f finish 6 and 1 half laps to go and four runners in contention and you see the common courtesy of the lap Runners now moving out to let them pass on the inside but definitely a break four on the track Robles in the green h Jenea in the gray on maroon esvelt in the maroon on black and in the Striped singlet there that is Baker from the Colorado School of Mines Baker was fifth last year Robles was second Lua janesa was third so the one athlete there who may be not wondering what she is doing there but the one we know the least about is anuka esvelt from Seattle Pacific but she had one of the best times this season she ran 3341 so definitely not an underdog position but the four have pulled away looking to capture the top four places in this 10,000 but always gold silver and bronze the main goals Roes has done all the work so far W Jenea has sat right on her shoulder the entire time we know that L Jenea winning the 5,000 m indoors this year of course Robles was [Music] second five laps to go so just 2,000 M they’re still running 82 883 second quarters they’ve pulled P away from the field and if it’s going to be Roes and NOA yet again you have to think that Robles in her mind is trying to figure out what she’s going to do but look at that on the back stretch there goes the move there goes the move o Jenea has countered that was esvelt who went first they may have lost Baker baker has fallen off the pace so now there were three and it was esvelt who made the move going down the back stretch oena went right with her and shot to the front robes hesitated but then she managed to stay with them but they have lost Baker so now they have three laps to go or four laps to go for just the three at the front and it’s robles’s turn to run behind and see what she can do but there is another Surge and we’ll see if robbles can go with them yet again esvelt and Ura Jenea Robles is still there and you have to say that at this point in the final four laps the favorite looks to be Florence Urena of West Texas A&M she has looked the strongest she has run most of the race on the shoulder of Robles conserving as much as she can we know she’s won the 5,000 so she has the foot speed esvelt from Seattle Pacific maybe the longest legs the longest stride and Robles the veteran just hoping she doesn’t finish second yet again but you can see now how the pace has increased as they lap Runners down this home stretch as they approach the start Finish Line they’ll have three laps to go the pace definitely picked up they went from 82 to 77 so from 82 to 77 and now with three laps to go that last 400 m another 77 so it’s not about finishing and who’s behind it’s let’s pick up the pace and see what we can do still three there out front they have completely lost the pack and the other Runners on the track now currently in fourth place she is probably 60 yards behind so should not be a factor you’re looking at gold silver and bronze finish but we don’t know who’s going to get what as they come off the curve Florence U Jenea anuka esvelt and bana robbles and they’ve gone again does robbles have another surging her to stay tight they’ve got just over 800 meters two laps to go Ur Jenea and esvelt and it looks like it’s going to come down to gold and silver for the final two and they have lost Robles now no longer in your picture so just about 700 M to go the these are the two running for gold Florence Urena in the gray on maroon and anuka esvelt the Junior from Seattle Pacific in the maroon on black Robles now 10 to 15 yards behind you see Roes there now 20 yards so she’s falling further and further behind not much danger in falling out of Bron’s contention but we know the veteran will continue to keep the pressure on and if these two have broken too soon and they start to come back at all Robles lurking but we have just over one lap to go now when they hit that start Finish Line you’re going to hear the bell and you’re going to know who has one 400 met split left who’s got the freshest legs who’s going to make the move first or Jenea she’s pushing her own pace and she’s starting to pull away this may be it she’s had enough and she knows what she’s got left and she has gone this is the senior Florence uena from West Texas A&M she feels like this is hers now she has set this race up perfectly she ran at the front on the shoulder of Robles for nearly 23 laps before making her first move she’s got 200 M to go and she looks very strong esvelt is keep actually now picked up the pace they know they’re all within 200 meters of the Finish but let’s let’s celebrate Florence Urena she has been a fantastic runner for West Texas A&M and we just lost her on the screen there but there you see her she she’s coming down she’s going to win this race very strong finish very strong finish she is going to win esvelt is going to get silver Robles is going to capture the [Music] bronze our fourth place Runner now just coming off the curve for the final time this is going to to be Zoe Baker from Colorado School of Mines she is going to finish in fourth place and now we should have still some Runners with another lap To Go Hannah Hartwell of Fort Lewis is going to get a Podium finish Kylie anic she stayed with them at the beginning the senior from Edinburgh she’s going to get a Podium finish pouring down the stretch one point here and there can always make a difference and there you see a smile she’s sitting down and resting now but I did catch a smile she knows that she’s got the rest of the field starts to come in but you see the times there and how about that a 71 sub 71 second final 400 met split the fastest 400 met split you see out there for the final lap and that was all the difference in the world and what she needed to run away from anuka esvelt from Seattle Pacific and you can see all the times from our athletes as they are coming in we’ll see a lot of them here again on Saturday for the 5000 but U Jenea silver Robles the bronze and there you see our winner she’s up again she’s smiling she’s happy that’s the first smile we’ve seen from her after this 10,000 MERS but she has earned it not just for this race but for the incredible career that she has had it’s not quite over yet but she has been competing here had great success and led West Texas A&M to great team success and as we get ready for these final athletes to run their final races on Saturday we’ll we’ll add up some of their past results and give you them their accolades as we see them one final time we presented the men’s 10,000 with their Awards so you can see here this evening as the racers finish we are going to be able to present our women’s Podium finish and then we will have a recap of all of today’s Final events our final events both on the track and
