you notice Tony feno and Scotty Sheffer now clean shaven coming out of vahalla Johnson Wagner is not we all know that Johnson is itching to get up off the desk and head out to a golf course just to demonstrate what these guys are trying to do we don’t have any green grass here but we we have found a way to turn Johnson loose and tell us more about Tony fow’s putting big man what’s he been doing and why is it working for him well rich thank you since the RBC Heritage he’s gone to a new putter grip and it’s done a couple things I want to take a look at a picture of a putting still shot of him putting at Farmers from earlier this year and as you can see on the screen his toe is way up in the air I mean it’s it’s you could put your hand under that and and I I’ve actually talked to his coach Boyd summer Hayes and his caddy marker banck about this maybe a year and a half ago and they both said that Tony just feels really comfortable when his hands are low to the ground and and and I I get that you want to be comfortable when you’re putting but proper mechanics matter and when you’re when your toes that high off the ground in my opinion it it causes a player to hit a lot of putts to the left now if we look at what his stroke looked like today uh on this side he’s got this new saw grip which uh after speaking with his caddy Mark today a little bit he went back to this style at RBC Heritage and has started putting a lot better A lot more consistently and uh he actually used this style about three four years ago at the PGA Championship when he made a run and so when he’s down here and his hands are real low you can’t really get into the saw grip that way so what it’s done going to the saw grip is it’s automatically made that shaft go more vertical putting his uh putter head on the ground much cleaner and allows for a a much more consistent better stroke and if we take a look at them side by side it’s night and day difference the this putter head it’s incredibly high off the ground with a toe and over here it’s almost sold perfectly I think if he just lifted it just a hair more I think he’d have more days like he had today but this is a big Improvement and with Tony fow’s Ball striking being what it is Rich I think being an average putter or above average putter we’re going to see him start winning a lot more big events and a lot more events in general back to you rich tow off the ground low hand you think about the the old days saoki and fuzzy Zeller both putted well with that but Tony um going a different way
