That’s beautiful. That’s what I’m talking about. I’m feeling beautiful right now. Ryan from Chambers, who’s awesome, is going to go through a mental golf connection, because let’s face it this right here is everything. Put your hands together for Ryan Young from Chambers [Applause] Bay. Thank you, thank you. I’m the Director of Instruction at Chambers Bay. We established the Golf Academy in 2016. It’s grown to probably one of the biggest if not the biggest academies in all the Northwest, so come down and see us. We have all kinds of instruction programs for adults, juniors, all skill levels. So, today more specifically I put a poll out, um, been fortunate to speak a few times but this is something I’ve really never spoke about on a stage like this, it’s the mental game. How to improve your scores through improving your mental game. How many of you with a show of hands has had an issue on the course mentally before? I think we see it even on the PGA Tour today. So, um, quick story. One of my good friends he got drafted to the Mariners as a lefty pitcher who could throw 92 mph right out of college. So you know it was amazing to watch his journey through that. Long story short he spent a couple years in the minor leagues threw his arm out and now he’s playing golf. Talking to him, playing golf, you know keeping his competitive career going, we were talking about how he got drafted and one of the things the Mariners do is they bring all the top prospects and they fill the stadium at night, turn the lights on, and I got invited to go watch that, cuz I wanted to support him. Well they throw the best pitchers prospects and the best batters up together under the lights. 3 and 0 count, two outs, how nervous do you think he was? Zero. He told me, no problem. Strike, strike, strike. Finished it out, gave a little fist pump, got drafted the next week. Awesome. His career is over now. I invited him to play the Oregon Open with me. It’s a low gross, low am and a pro event, and we’re playing and there’s a cut line after day two. Well he’s, he was already a two handicap in high school even though he was playing baseball his whole life. He’s just a great athlete. Guy hits it 400 yards, 126 mph club head speed. We know he’s around the cut line and we get to the last hole and he has a three-foot putt, and we think it’s to make the cut. He misses it. So we start talking you know cuz he misses the cut and ends up being he misses the cut by two strokes but we start talking on the long drive home you know how nervous were you? He’s like Ryan, I told you the story of when I got drafted. He’s like I was never nervous but that was the most nerve-wracking situation I’ve ever been in. His all, you know, his athletic career. It’s crazy. It’s a three-foot putt. We make those things all the time so it just shows you how much more intense golf is mentally than it is physically because the best athletes in the world have a lot of issues there. So I’ve got four keys today to tell you on how to improve your mental game. It’s through how to manage your play, play the game. It’s through understanding the statistics of the game. It’s through how you practice, and then finally, it’s swing technique. Through the Four Keys that our Academy focuses on when you enroll with us, we coach you on these four things, but they all have a mental component. Okay so let’s start off with key number one. It is game play, okay. This is a game, it’s not a swing, so when you play the game of golf, how many of you go get a lesson and you’re like hey I want to hit the ball better. I want better ball striking. I want to hit the ball more consistently. How many of you asked that in a lesson before? okay well why do you want to do that? To score lower. So how many of you actually want to score lower and not necessarily improve your ball striking? Okay I, to challenge me, one time I had a guy and I kind of told told him that and I start every lesson that way cuz if you want to focus on scoring let me help you with scoring but this guy’s like Ryan, Ryan, Ryan, I don’t play golf I just get off work and I hit balls for an hour. It’s my little relief time and I just want to feel like I hit the sweet spot and then go home. okay touché. If you’re a range rat and you just want to hit the golf ball then we’ll help you hit the golf ball but for the most of you in the audience you want to lower your golf scores so we want to start playing this game of golf so let me do this real quick I can grab my putter out here I got a golf ball in this bag okay everybody imagine this head cover right here is the hole and let’s go back to my buddy’s three-foot putt just a little bit longer than my putter cuz I’m short and I cut it down 3ft putt how many of you believe you’ll make this putt on the golf course? that was like 50/50 we need to make some work here, okay how many tour players think they’ll make this putt? 99%. see work with me here if you know these 99% is the average one putt from 3 ft on the PGA Tour okay they don’t miss. it’s actually 100, 99, 98, average it, if you’re inside a 3 ft circle you’re going to make it on the tour. I start every beginner golf lesson with a putter and a cup from 3 ft away. even a beginner can make a 3 ft putt okay. let’s go back a whopping 2 feet. so we got 5 ft here. what’s the percentage a tour player makes this putt? 96, 75, 85, 82, 89. 60! what? what? 60%? how many of you missed this putt and got mad? now that you know the average percent of a one putt on the tour, how many of should have you got upset about this? depends on if it leads to a depends if it leads to a three ooh let’s play the game here soon 8 ft is 50/50 on the PGA tour. okay so put that in perspective a tour player from 8 ft is going to make that half the time now these guys mentally believe that they’re going to make it every single time that’s why they get frustrated but let’s be honest 10 ft is about 33% 15 ft 25% anything outside of 20 ft guess what they’re not making it and if they do what do they do? yeah right they they they know they defied statistics that’s what Strokes gained is all about on the tour here’s the average and can you be better than average right so Dustin Johnson, Jordan Spieth, when they were world number one guess what their one putt percentage from 10 ft was? tour average is 33. 85%. okay whoa, if you want to be the world’s best golfer make every single 10-footer all year long. that’s ridiculous that’s why they become world number one if you want to be Charles Howell III, no disrespect Charles HoweII III, you’ve had a great career. you’ve made cuts but you don’t win anything. he’s the tour statistic. he’s the average okay so how does that work with your mindset let me tell you a quick story I was just in Las Vegas. Las Vegas pro-am playing with uh some ams and me and my buddy’s an 18 handicap last hole he has this for par okay we know we are winning as a team but we need to make a couple strokes back on the field to win overall and Seth his name is Seth he’s about to make this putt he’s going up and my buddy says hey Seth that’s for a net birdie we need that oh okay guess what he does. Ah! it broke I missed it ah I suck you don’t suck you weren’t going to make it anyway statistically for an 18 handicap that’s less than a 50% chance and then we threw some added pressure onto him so then he comes to this 4 ft putt what are the chances he’s is going to make that 18 handicap guess what he did missed it of course missed it to about one foot and I said Seth take a deep breath and make that one footer please he makes it we end up winning by two strokes for the last day but we missed the overall money by one stroke okay rookie mistake right when you’re in the moment you have to ask yourself what’s the statistical chance that I make this let’s use strokes gained to our advantage I’m 5 ft out I’m at 18 handicap am I going to make this statistically no statistically no any of you a you know stats person out there you know follow stats you know hedge your bets off good stats well if you’re not going to make a five-footer then what should you really be doing lay It up how close she said get it as close as possible how close how 3 ft somebody’s listening why 99% chance on the PGA tour but you guys aren’t on the PGA tour so what should you be practicing day in and day out thank you okay so there’s your putting tip 101 know your stats and know your probability of banking next time you have a 10-footer and you’re staring birdie in the face don’t try to make it try to lag it up there and guess what when you put proper speed on a putt not proper aim not proper swing when you put proper speed on a putt you’ll put better tempo you put a better roll and the odds are that ball has a better chance of going in rather than you trying to make it make sense okay let’s move on away from putting so we got we bombed our drive right down the middle of fairway 250 yard some of you might get it 300 and you have 125 ft and you miss the green oh man I need to work on my ball striking I need to go see Ryan and work on my consistency right what are the chances you make the green as an 18 handicap think about it an 18 handicap makes a bogey on every hole you you don’t hit greens you don’t you miss screens and what are the chances you get up and down for par think about it you don’t my job as an instructor to show you get up and down one or two times and you’re a 16 handicap mind blown right so get to a single- digit handicap well you throw it to 25 ft look into to birdie and you don’t birdie should you be upset okay what is the average proximity to the hole on to for average they stick the pin all the time right there little tap-in 25 ft anybody think closer 15 see I already got to you guys’ minds it’s 18 ft that’s the if they hit the green they’re average 18 ft away what did I say the average make percentage from 18 ft is it’s like 10 15% now if you’re Jordan Spieth Dustin Johnson Scottie Scheffler you might make that for birdie these guys don’t make birdies on par fours they make birdies on par fives because they hit the green and they’re 18 feet away and they one putt maybe or most likely two putt make birdies there’s four par fives that’s four under par don’t screw up the rest of the holes get lucky on a couple par fours there’s a quick and easy 67 that’s the math first for you to shoot under par okay don’t screw up the par 3’s play safe on the par fours and attack the par fivs that’s your probabilities and that’s how you should play the game play the game right what should you do off the te just get it in play please you’re not going to hit the green anyways so just get in play Get up by the green get up and down a few times and there you go there’s your math so all right so that’s that’s key number one statistics use statistics to play the game rather than to hit the golf ball okay number two is strategy and course management club selection right on-course strategy okay quick story well let me do this real quick anybody play just think of a narrow golf course anybody play ever country club before whole 16 they nickname it Hogan’s Alley it’s like this wide okay it’s only 267 yards I grew up in mil Creek I play it all the time 267 yards I can get there with my three wood how many times do you think I’ve birdied or eagled that hole not many cuz what do you think I did as a high schooler pull out driver and just Ricochet Ricochet put myself behind a tree how many times do you think the guys that hit seven iron off the team made par and then gone you know got out of there with a good score okay think about it it’s a very short hole but is it statistically possible to hit that green especially with how narrow it is anybody play Chambers Bay perfect hole number five down Hill par 4 it’s one of the longer par 4’s at our golf course what’s in the landing zone what does the landing zone look like it’s a bottleneck it’s a golf course architectural feature it’s a bottleneck guess where the bottleneck is if you choose the appropriate tee boxes because we suggest the tee boxes based on your driving distance Robert Trent Jones was smart wherever your appropriate driving distance is you should play the appropriate tee box that’s your landing zone it’s like 20 yards wide there right 20 yards wide how many of you could feather a 20 yard wide drive right down the middle but what happens if you lay up hit a three-wood or four iron a hybrid off the teeth it’s like a 100 yards wide now for you long ball hitters if you could go past the statistical average then you could it actually widen it’s like an hour glass feature right there so think about that how many times do you choose the wrong club throw it into the bunker which I always do on that hole and get mad that you miss the fairway right number one are you even good enough to hit it 20 within a 20 yard fairway and then number two what what could you have done instead because were you going to hit the grain anyways cuz right in the middle of that bottleneck it’s about 160 yards uphill okay that’s tough and there’s a bunker in the middle of the graen so think about this I have a student uh a junior he’s a senior now playing in a big event two-day event last year super super strong he he has 126 mph club head speed hits his three iron 300 yard ridiculous his five wood and that’s cuz he got nuked up three three iron but it’s five wood no joke goes 287 yards every single time he hits it okay anybody play the classic down south I’ve never played it but he told me all about it and I just looked up the score card guess what every hole is it’s short if he hits his three wood 290 yards he on average has for him a gap wedge or a sand wedge into the green he told me once he hit driver on a par five and he had a pitching wedge in his hand for his second shot really good golfer shoots 88 calls me coach so stressed like I want to get recruited I can’t I can’t can’t do this I was like well talk me through your round what happened he’s like I sliced it on every hole and I just couldn’t figure it out I put six balls out of bounds I was like what why he’s like I don’t know that’s why I’m calling you okay what you do on hole one slic my driver out of bounds Re hit oh okay what’d you do on hole two well sliced my driver stayed in bounds but I was in a horrible spot couldn’t get over the trees made a double shoot what you do on whole three slice my driver you see the see what we’re going here six drivers six doubles okay well how far do you hit the ball and we did this the whole mapping out of the golf course he was like can you leave your driver in the bag tomorrow he’s like but I need it why he gets it puts his bag driver in the bag guess what he shoots the next day 76 improve 12 strokes overnight just because he chose the right club and actually he should have shot 72 because I lied he didn’t leave the driver in the car or in his house he pulled the driver out on first hole sliced it made double put it away hum experience I literally have a text from him right now he’s playing Trophy Lake shot 88 or 85 yesterday and I was like hey what’s going on he’s like don’t even talk to me I left my driver at my house he gets it now so course strategy right if you don’t feel confident with your driver right it’s a mindset standpoint if you feel confident with your driver and you haven’t missed the fairway bomb it up there especially if your driver is not going to put you into those trouble bottlenecks but if you don’t don’t hit driver hit something in play so that you can hit something around the green so you might be able to get up and down so you can break 90 break 80 maybe accidentally make a par andove your putting make some birdies right that’s called the scoring zone play this golf game strategy don’t be, how many of you struggle with a three off the deck how many of you struggle with a five iron right what’s one topped five iron and a decent five iron going to do for you what’s one nice seven iron one nice seven iron a nice little pitch shot and a two putt boogy right it’s it’s a humbling experience but go play around a golf without your woods or your bag or your long irons and go see what you shoot compared to the day where you have 14 clubs in your bag so think about your strategy think about your club selection and also think about where you’re aiming right should you be aiming at the pin or should we just hey I’m probably going to miss the shot anyways and I usually fade it so let me just fade it short right on this hole have an easy chip give myself an outside chance to make a par but statistically I’m probably going to make a bogey cuz I’m an 18 handicap okay so core strategy number two number three is purposeful practice this is one of the things we got to lock in so okay you told me I need to practice three-footer and need to practice scenario shots okay well 3 footers you should make how many of those 99% okay that means you don’t ever miss how many 3 footers are you going to potentially have on a round of golf what well I mean if all goes wrong 18 right or you know if you never make a putt outside 3 feet you’re probably going to have at least 18 of those what should you guys do when you practice how many make three footers 18 just try can you make a three-footer 18 times in a row without missing right it’s hard right it’s stressful but put that stress on your practice put that stress on your practice my better players they’re playing 36 hole events guess what their number is that I have them do 36 right guess what Phil Mickelson famously did in the peak of his career 100 in a row before he would leave every practice session every practice session 100 in a row if you want to be the world’s best that’s what you got to do okay so we have personal records at our Academy and the challenge is hey you have to at least at minimum make 18 or 36 but can you make more guess what our Academy record is 243 okay he plays he got recruited to play for Chapman University on the first year he like he didn’t start recruiting till his senior year but start just lights out now he’s one of the top freshman uh in NCAA Division III 243 three putts in a row he text me the day he did it and I my first question is why didn’t you get 244 why do you think he didn’t get 244 cuz 243 that’s a long time out on the putty green so he had to go bathroom came back from the bathroom put a but putt down missed it right I don’t care if you make 100, 243 or 18 what do I really care about what’s that yeah how do you make that one putt well if you can make 243 you can make one but what did you do to make those 243 putts oh coach I put the ball down I took one practice swing I set up boom what did you do when you came back from the bathroom put the oh I put the ball down just tried to tap it in the the only thing I care about do you understand how you’re doing those personal records can you make 243 in a row I don’t care but do you know how you made 2403 in a row and then when we go play on the course together did you do that same thing or did you skip a step and you missed it anytime I’ve ever missed a three-footer I I 100% know I skipped the step I’m like I got this i got this man I do it today too but when I do it I don’t get upset about the three-footer I get upset about myself because I skipped the step right I know what it takes to make 36 in a row and if you skip that step then are you going to make that so think about that personal records you need to do that um same scenario if you’re going to make those drivers if you’re playing whole 16 at at um Everett Country Club playing Hogan’s Alley you want to try to hit that shot we go try right you know if you want to hit 14 fairways in a row go try to hit 14 Fairways on the driving range it’s tough I it’s hard for me to hit 14 drives in a row and weave it through an average 40 yard wide fairway it’s very hard we have Drive, Chip, Putt students one of ours made the national championship a couple years ago at and was on at Augusta they get three drives to prove themselves the longer you hit it the more points you get but it has to be in a 40 yard wide grid okay you only get three tries well you got to put the pressure on you got to practice for those moments can you make three drives in a row in the fairway when all the lights are on so the the more the higher levels that you get to the higher levels that you need to put on pressure you put on yourself put a couple bucks on there with your buddies turn the cameras on film yourself do whatever you need to do to put that pressure so that you can make that easy and less stressful and you feel calmer when it gets to the moments that you really want to achieve out on the golf course tournament or just for fun okay last thing swing technique how many swing thoughts can you have in a golf swing one three anybody think any different position one position two three position four position five 6 oh turn seven position eight my grip pressure my setup 12 13 I wrote an article I I think you could honestly have one and a half right one is your dominant swing thought okay you have one dominant swing thought and for me when I was in Vegas this week I figured out something if I just release a little bit more outside I got my little baby draw back it was nice one dominant swing thought out there okay and it was just working it was working it was working and then I started getting confident I started inevitably swinging harder than I should and I missed it okay on the next tee shot I told myself hey Ryan just just swing nice and smooth you’re getting ahead of yourself but don’t forget about releasing out to the right there’s my half okay so I swung smoother but I’m hoping that the initial swing thought is already set in stone into my muscle memory right one and a half but the second you say okay I need release out to the right I need to swing smooth and don’t forget to hinge on the back swing no not going to work not going to work I did a little test I had a lesson yesterday with a gentleman named Phil and he hit a shot it was perfect perfect right down the middle right at the pin he wanted and I was like hey what were you thinking about he’s like well what you told me extension because he was just throwing his hands across the ball so of course he was duck hooking everything so I was like we’ll just extend down the line keep that club face square to the line a lot longer pipes it right down the middle pipes it right down the middle pipes it right down the middle hey Phil real quick let me get my camera out I’m going to film you so we can see this hooks it Phil what were you thinking about over that shot most of you going to say he’s thinking about the camera but we had been filming each other for a while now he’s like well I thought about my back swing why well cuz I think I think my wrist was a little bat did we ever mention that in the last hour he’s like no I heard it on YouTube what the heck Phil you had one plan throw your hands down the line it’s like yeah you’re right it was 30 seconds ago what happened try to think about this now and he hits a great shot right down the middle gets the one gets the two third shot I purposely don’t say anything don’t remind him hit a third shot it’s not as good I’m like Phil were you thinking about extension on that one he’s like yep sure was and I was like okay well that mass that miss wasn’t that bad so good job but what were you actually thinking about he’s like no I was thinking about the extension I was like you weren’t his hearing my coach coach Matt in the background yelling cuz he was yelling at a student about something they were joking around he’s like actually yeah I was listening to that he’s distracted you know his brain wasn’t over the shot he wasn’t focused it’s hard to stay focused on one one key swing concept let alone two let alone 3 4 5 6 7 8 how many of you have said no I do best when I don’t think at all how do you not think what does that mean hey Ryan don’t think just don’t think about anything you could argue thinking about not thinking is a swing thought right clearing your head is a good swing thought you could also say hey not having five swing thoughts but just being relaxed is a swing thought but you have to focus on that and the best way to do it is have a very regimented pre-shot routine okay grip aim stance posture step one step two feet are good posture a little waggle down the line look okay how many how many swing thoughts was that zero that was pre- swing that was pre- swing field goal kicker one two three right those guys it’s every single time what do they do when the ball gets snapped kick right and they’re probably trying to do something I don’t know I don’t kick I don’t kick footballs but they have a pre-shot routine that keeps them consistent every single time and it helps control your thoughts if you don’t have a consistent pre-shot the routine you start thinking and when you start thinking your mind starts wandering you lose focus but when you can control your thoughts and take everything step by step and then be like oh yeah extension boom and you can hit the shot okay so control your thinking go step by step and then when it’s about to time to execute have one solid swing thought and that could just mean smooth tempo relax rotate focus on the target those are good swing thoughts you know why cuz they’re all encompassing they think you know that’s you know rotate that takes care of a lot of issues right so my job is to help you take care of all those issues okay so that’s the four concepts we got play the game we got strategize we got practice with a purpose and we got control your thinking swing thoughts I’ll give you a little bonus here it’s not it’s a nice technique to help you when all else fails do I look nervous by the way was I nervous before I got on I don’t know it’s been a few times my heart started racing I could feel it right there’s a lot of people here half of you went away so you know whatever but right before I got up on stage deep breath okay everybody do this with me one hand on your chest one hand on your diaphragm okay do not move your chest but move your diaphragm okay it’s called a belly breath when you inhale for 6 seconds I’m going to talk while I do this inhale 6 seconds extend your chest get that stomach way out there keep your chest quiet and then when you exhale push in on your diaphragm don’t move your chest don’t go like this right that’s not a good breath but if you extend your belly and then push it back in there’s this thing called the Vagas nerve right behind your diaphragm it’s your rest and relax nerve it’s the opposite of your fight and flight you start getting nervous you start thinking about the cut line you start thinking about that birdie to win the event you start thinking about that putt to win dinner off your buddies or win a drink you start walking up on the stage and you’re a little nervous take a deep breath it’s just telling your brain to relax and maybe you don’t feel it but you’ll see your heart rate actually go down so final technique there chew gum eat some food just relax have some fun um but yeah perfect so I’ll just pause right there any questions about that that’s what I got for today four Keys the fifth one is a little bonus just Tech Technique we train all those things we take you on the course we take you off the course we work on all those things that relates to lowering your scores but you could see how many of those aspects have something to do with your mind final thing forgot to add this you come to me for swing advice I’m going to ask you or go to the course somebody hits a bad shot Ryan I thought we worked on that okay well what were you thinking about I was a little I was thinking about burning okay so your mind wasn’t in it oh yeah and what club did you hit well I hit driver should you probably not did you practice for driver off the first tee at Chambers Bay no I’ve never practiced that shot then why are we working on your swing makes sense cool thank you everybody um if you have any questions I’m going to open book for the next few minutes yeah it’s very simple practicing on the driving range to you your yeah so the question was pre-shot routine do you do that on the driving range so 100% yes before I’m warming up for a tournament or before I play I go through the pre-shot routine first couple shots I’m just stretching my back getting loose but then when it’s time to take a full swing at you know 150 yards I go through my routine right maybe it’s cuz I’m frugal cheap cheap or maybe it’s for a strategy but I don’t buy buckets of golf balls to warm up a lot very often at courses that make you charge oh hey there’s five balls over here 1 2 3 four five that’s 20 minutes a warm-up for me I stretch do what the guys uh you know from TPI was telling you stretch the back stretch everything out get the muscles activated then I’m going to just loosen up get the get the body rotated and then I’ll go through my routine and then I’ll hit a shot and and then I’ll think about the shot and then I’ll hit another shot and go through my routine that should take 5 to 10 minutes alone and then what do I got to hit on the first tee oh it’s a driver with a draw on hole one at Chambers Bay if you hit a fade or a slice for a right-handed golfer at Chambers Bay on the first hole you’re screwed you’re up Billy going it up on the hill right duck hook it left you’ll end up in 18 Fairway you still have a shot onto the green yeah so practice hitting a little draw boom hit a draw okay cool nothing said done so I go through the routine all the time now if I am working on a swing technique because I’ve gotten instruction on my swing and I want to grind that out that’s a controlled environment I’m going to go to the dag range on a day that I’m not playing and I’m going to go through that but a couple things my pre-shot routine routine helps me with is visualize and set up alignment how can you skip a couple of those steps align stick alignment stick we all have them but we all never use them throw the alignment stick there so you have a controlled environment so when you do things you’re not worrying about standing in the wrong spot every single time so yeah what’s your pre-shot routin what’s my pre-shot routine so grip aim stance posture it’s an acronym we use starting from the beginning golfers it’s called gasp right so I’m I’m more of like a Jason Day guy balls right here I’ll just demonstrate you ready ready for 12 steps to pre-shot routine Club selection seven iron 175 yd pins back left I’m going to aim towards the middle of the green and if it draws cuz it’s my natural shape that’s fine if it’s straight then I’m still on the green okay got my seven iron now I’m standing right behind the line just like a field goal kicker I’m visualizing it I’m seeing it up in the air okay it’s right there it’s going to hit that banister I’m looking down there’s my spot alignment I take my grip imagine I have two hands on the club I’m going going up looking down the line spot alignment left right left right left okay set up posture I rehearse my down swing cuz I’m trying to swing from the inside there’s my one swing thought activated one last look execute every single time got it down to a t if I skip any of those steps who knows what’s going to happen maybe I get lucky but you know I’ll I’ll I’ll be the one that admits that he got lucky hitting that shot but that’s the routine I do every single time but it’s a lot of work to do all that you only get 40 seconds to hit so I do a lot of that stuff when it’s not my turn so when it’s my turn and I’ve timed myself it’s about 12 to 16 seconds of actual setup routine but the club selection the target awareness the visualization the yardage you know where to hit it that’s another 30 seconds but I start doing that as I’m walking up the Fairway and by the way when you start doing that walking up the fairway it keeps your mind from wandering the wrong direction keeps you focused laser focus Tiger Woods looking straight down the fairway when he walks everybody thinks he’s kind of a dick cuz he’s not saying hi to everybody but he’s focused right he’s in the lead gusta he knows what he needs to hit he’s thinking about that shot before he even gets to the ball you said abouts as long as it’s one thought it doesn’t really matter what it is yeah he has yeah is he said about swing thoughts mindset one thought keep it to a minimum doesn’t matter what it is perfect I mean we have a little test we have a little technique one thought okay one solid thought that’s been working and I’ll by the way in my tool belt I have about six or seven one solid swing thoughts depending on the hole depending on the shot I got to pull that one out you know pull out your playbook oh I’m hitting a driver what’s your swing thought oh relax you know slow down that’s my swing thought okay woo you know one swallet but for a putt it’s tempo for it’s actually very similar it’s tempo you just get the distance control proper because that’s what we’re focusing on right so I might have a swing solid swing thought for every scenario but that’s because I did all those practice routines to figure out hey 30 putts in a row focus on tempo 14 drives in a row focused on swing speed ball striking I focus on weight transfer I don’t know so you have one solid thought but it might be different for every scenario but I’ve figure those out through very purposeful practice good question all right that’s uh that’s about it I got come see our us over at Chambers Bay Booth right in the middle I appreciate everybody listening and uh hopefully we see down there next time

  1. Love the golf educational videos. Junior golfer here and YouTube golf doesn't have enough educational videos for higher level players. Most of the content creators make is directed at higher handicap golfers, but I find your content very helpful for getting my game more dialed in when I am not at the course. Thanks, and keep up the good work!
