so everybody we are just essentially three weeks away three weeks away from taking on the Dominican Republic in the World Cup qualifiers it’s just amazing to think that time is just moving by so quickly we’re three weeks away next week will be two weeks away the week after that we’ll be one week away from facing the Dominican Republic and you can honestly say that the time has moved by extremely fast it truly is remarkable when you factor in all of the elements put together so in this video I’m going to show Jamaica’s run in World Cup qualifying the journey Where it All Began so that you can appreciate things and just get to know our journey better you know what they say knowledge is power and that is important so what you see on your screen right now is in relation to World Cup qualifying history as we know Jamaica didn’t get their independence from England until 1962 and 1962 was the same year that Jamaica became a member of FIFA so Jamaica was not part of world qualifying in 1930 34 38 50 54 58 62 Jamaica was a British colony Jamaica was a British colony persons didn’t need visas to go to England when you were born in Jamaica prior to August 6 1962 you were considered a British citizen that’s right because Jamaica were a British colony so Jamaica was under the English rulership so therefore with that being said we can now go right on so the first time that Jamaica competed in World Cup qualifying was for the 1966 World Cup pun have only had one spot at the time can you imagine one spot at the time time has truly flown by so quickly you look on your screen right now and you see what the preliminaries look like Jamaica took on the Netherland anes and Cuba as we know the Netherland anes has now been dissolved so now you have Aruba boner kirasa St Martin Saba staus Etc right so this was the preliminaries Jamaica toed their group in advance to the final round right Jamaica defeated the likes of Cuba and the Netherland an and of course these games were at the National Stadium the National Stadium in Kingston their way game against the Netherland anes and their way game against Cuba took place in Havana all right good in the final round it was three teams one team qualified for the World Cup and that team was Mexico so Jamaica finished third in the final round of World Cup qualifying Jamaica’s goal scorers a tidbit so that you all are aware as well who is Jamaica’s first goal scorer in World Cup qualifying well that title stays with Oscar black Oscar black was Jamaica’s first goal scorer in World qualifying followed by Patrick Blair LEL Dunley also continued as well in terms of the goal scoring Acumen Asha Welch scored s Bartlet also scored for Jamaica in World Cup qualifying and art Welsh as well so in terms of World Cup qualifying goals LEL Dunley has three World Cup qualifying goals maybe you guys want to take note about this as well because this can help us as well as we do our own data analytics statistics so that we can keep track of this wouldn’t you all agree that something like this is important and valuable of course we have to know about what is around us we have to know this pieces of information so that we can all prepare adequately so we have LEL Dunley with three goals have you ever wondered who is the highest scoring Jamaican in Ral qualify well that’s something that we can have a conversation about as well and breakdown as well so that everybody is aware so Dunley three goals all right and there was one each for Sid Bartlet Oscar black Patrick Blair art Welch and Asher Welch let’s go into the 1970 World Cup qualifying campaign in the 1970 World Cup qualifiers Jamaica took part in the qualifying and Jamaica took on huras and Costa Rica and Jamaica finished third in the group again LEL Dunley scoring for Jamaica and Al show Welsh are Welsh on the score sheet this time for Jamaica and as you know Evan Welsh is different from art Welsh all right Asha Welsh art Welsh Asha Welsh two different individuals okay so we can press forward now the 1974 and the 1982 campaigns Jamaica did not participate in the 1974 and the 1982 editions of World Cup qualifying okay Jamaica withdrew and we saw the Netherland an advance further on okay Jamaica competed in the 1978 World Cup qualifiers all right Jamaica competed in the 1978 World Cup qualifiers but remember 82 and 74 Jamaica did not participate all right good Jamaica took on Cuba the goal scorer for the Jamaicans was Carl Bron Carl Bron in 1976 was the goal scorer for the Jamaicans all right Cuba went on and progressed in the 1982 qualifiers as M mentioned Jamaica did not compete in the 1982 World Cup qualifiers just to show you so that you all are aware all right Jamaica did not compete in the 1982 qualifies in 1986 okay there we go 1986 World Cup qualifies Jamaica just showing you a little bit of History here all right Jamaica withdrew and Canada progressed okay you can progress now to the 1990 World qualifiers and in the 1990 qualifiers Jamaica took on Puerto Rico and the preliminaries right Jamaica took on Puerto Rico in the preliminaries and we see what happened here right Jamaica defeated Puerto Rico by Golden H thanks to Dave Brooks and we saw that uh Winston Anglin scored two goals for the Jamaican team against Puerto Rico this meant that Jamaica Advanced further and took on the United States and Neil nil draan Kingston and then in St Louis I believe yeah Missouri in St Louis Jamaica took on the United States goal scorer for the Jamaican was Alton Sterling okay good so we could progress further now into the 1994 World Cup qualifiers how did that go well Jamaica first took on Puerto Rico again all right the goal scorers Ricardo Hyde then Bal Wilson and Hector Wright okay as Jamaica defeated Puerto Rico 2-1 and 1 nil Jamaica Advanced to face Trinidad and Tobago and we have the goal scorers of Pete isacs Winston Anglin and Paul UT Davis okay this man that Jamaica Advanced to the semi-final round with Bermuda with Canada and El Salvador Hector Wright was the man on the score sheet for the Jamaicans against Canada at the National Stadium against Bermuda go scorer was Paul tat Davis against Bermuda again pick to right getting on the score sheet twice for the Jamaicans and also we had a goal from Brodrick Reed Paul Davis as well getting on the score sheet for the Jamaicans final round we know what happened there the 1998 World Cup qualifiers do you know who Jamaica’s opponents were in the 1998 World Cup qualifiers well let me tell you all so that you all know from start to finish before I even click to the next upop first of all on home and away then barbus woman away then in the semi-final round Honduras s Vincent and the Grenadines and Mexico and then of course in the final round USA Canada Mexico El Salvador Costa Rica Jamaica that’s how it went so it started in March 1996 the journey started away against Surinam in pararo that’s where it all started with Theodore tapa Whitmore getting on the score sheet for the Jamaicans that’s where the journey began for Theodore TOA Whitmore Paul Davis in Kingston three week Weeks Later scored to Jamaica Advanced and this man that Jamaica would face Barbados and against Barbados Walter Boyd found himself on the score sheet as Jamaica picked up a 1- nil victory in Barbados okay Theodor Whitmore too he was on the score sheet again so wal Boyd this meant that Jamaica would be in the third round Mexico s Vincent and the Grenadines Honduras how did that Journey pan out well this is how it Pann out Walter Boyd he first scored a brace against Honduras tapa again was on the score sheet 3-n Victory then after that we went away to take on St Vincent and the grenadians and a man by the name of Paul Young scored a brace for Jamaica as Jamaica recorded a 2-1 victory over the Vincy heat then at the esta Stadium was Walter Boyd with his fifth World Cup qualifying goal for Jamaica against Mexico and then Jamaica took on S Vincent and the grenadians theod tapa Whitmore he got a brace in that game Paul Young he scored a goal in that game Pet Carill and shorty Malcolm also scored in that game as well and then Ian Pepe goodison Ian Pepe goodison scored in 87th 82nd minute as Jamaica top the group and advaned to the final round what happened in the final round well final round we know the journey didn’t we a nil nil against the Americans a nil nil against the Canadians and then Andy Williams got on the score sheet for the Jamaicans yep way against Costa Rica at home against El Salvador and then after that it was the Dion Burton show as we know four goals in four games to help Jamaica qualify for the World Cup that’s how the journey went quite something isn’t it it is something for us to think about truly is a memorable Day November 16 1997 now we’re going to head over to the 2002 qualifiers how did that go in terms of the matches let’s look at it together shall we Jamaica didn’t play the preliminaries Jamaica was automatically in a semi-final round with Honduras with El Salvador with St Vincent and a man by the name of a nand low he scored for Jamaica his first World Cup qualifying goal against St Vincent and the Grenadines TOA Whitmore got on a score sheet with his sixth World Cup qualifying goal then low was back at it again and then Dion Burton got his fifth Nyo was back again against El Salvador Jamaica went into the final round of World Cup qualifying the final round we had back-to-back wins over Trinidad and Tobago as you all remember but how could we forget Tyrone Marshall Tyrone Marshall remember scored arguably Jamaica one of Jamaica’s best goals in international football history against Trinidad and Tobago outside of the box beating Shaka his slum I will honestly say that is the best goal ever at the National Stadium hands down the best goal ever at the National Stadium it was Sublime a wonderful wonderful strike truly was but I know many people might think otherwise but that for me was a sensational Sensational goal andelo was back on a score sheet against the Costa Ricans and then again against TR and Tobago Deon Burton scored and help Jamaica get a victory Jamie Lawrence scored as well the 2006 World Cup qualifiers it all started with double header against Haiti Home and Away against Haiti Haiti got the better of the Turks and Kus islands in the first round of qualifying Haiti remember didn’t play their home match in jica uh their home match in Haiti they play their home match in or laale Miami to be specific in the orange bow Stadium Marlin King with four World qualifying goals one away and the hatri got home as Jamaica Advanced to that’s right the semi-final round of World Cup qualifying Pepe goodison on the score sheet for the Jamaicans what else dman Ralph we saw him Marlon King getting a brace in a very very special game as we know this was important very very important why because Jamaica recorded their first of a victory in a World Cup qualifier that’s how important this was the tapa Whitmore getting his seventh World Cup qualifying goal yeah and Andy Williams and we know again on the score sheet with his Third World Cup qualifying goal for Jamaica Jamaica went to 2010 worldcup qualifiers Bahamas that was Jamaica’s first game of the qualifiers Bahamas didn’t play in The Bahamas but let’s start Where it All Began Ricardo big guard now scored first and a 70 Victory Demar Phillips was also on the score sheet Marlon King as well with his seventh World Cup qualifying goal equaling theater tapa Whit more then it was the Luton Shelton show Lon Shelton scored a brace in that game Omar Dy was on the score sheet I know it says Ian goodison here but it was actually Andy Williams that scored that day and then the other game we saw Deon Burton scoring a brace that’s him to eight R Co luten Shelton getting a hattick there as well tyone Marshall scoring so that was quite a game and then of course we know came the the F semi-final round of World Cup qualifying and in the semi-final round of World Cup qualifying Jamaica Canada Mexico Honduras remember that corner kick goal from Andy Williams that was special truly special we came home we took on Mexico amazing amazing goal from Ricardo Fuller luten Shelton getting on the score sheet as well so that in itself was fantastic and as we know luchan Shelton again against Canada Marlin King King got on the score sheet for his eighth goal for Jamaica and Omar Cummings wrapping things up there as well so that in itself was special truly truly special 2014 World Cup qualifiers yep e e the 2014 World Cup qualifying campaign all right World Cup qualifying campaign for 2014 here we are deamar Phillips Ryan Johnson Rudolph Austin luten Shelton getting on the score sheet as well uton chelton with his eighth World Cup qualifying goal for Jamaica also scored against Guatemala that was his last goal for Jamaica last 10 world qualifying goals for luten Shelton dear Phillips niron nosworthy Dane Richards on the score sheet in the final round [Music] now Marin Elliot was on the score sheet Jermaine Beckford got on the score sheet Tuffy Anderson got on the score sheet and of course Rudy Austin as well let’s go to the 2018 World Cup qualifying campaign Jamaica didn’t play preliminaries but we played against Nicaragua and against nicaragu we had Adrian mariappa and Darren matx on the score sheet as you know matx scored Home and Away against Nicaragua got into the semi-final round and in the semi-final round essentially what took place there was Clayton Donaldson scoring Javon Watson scoring as well and now we can progress to the 2022 World Cup qualifiers where as we know it was a scenario where we had Jamaica were’re not in the first round it was strictly the third round the final round and we had Shamar Nicholson on the score sheet right away way to Mexico a way to Costa Rica right and then took on Canada at home created history by going and defeating Honduras so that in itself was special extremely special and then Mel Antonio against El Salvador at home against the United States and also away against Panama as well that’s three World Cup qualifying goals for Michel Antonio you know incredibly special incredibly special Leon Bailey got his first Walker qualifying Goan as well rll Morrison as well so there we go folks that’s where we are and now in relation to 2026 this is the shortest campaign we’ll ever have why because it’s 10 matches only 10 matches four matches in the second round six matches in the third round okay so come on guys this is our journey this is our mission let’s get behind the team so you know what that means so we know what happens come June 6 2024 make sure you’re at the
