uh I know that some in our audience know the finer points of hockey the Chris Johnston show we are your friends the biggest stories bringing you inside the game what did you hear the Chris Johnston show here’s Chris with your host Julian McKenzie part of the game Siege another riveting game between the Vancouver Canucks and the Edmonton Oilers in their second round series but everyone is going to talk about what happened at the very end uh Carson Susi and Conor McDavid go had it the zadorov with the cross check from behind before Carson Susi also gets it on the action as well I believe Carson Susi was called for a penalty at the end of the game but a lot of people are going to wonder if there’s going to be a fine if there’s going to be a suspension how did you see the play and what do you think will happen well no clear indication yet as we’re recording this from NHL player safety but the one thing I point you to is probably the most significant suspensions this year were all given out for crosschecking infractions a couple that involved cross checks to the face one that you might remember well uh with Morgan Riley where he he cross checked a player in the face after the the time well after a goal in that case but like not in the Run of play and you know by no means am I saying necessarily that Carson su’s getting a five or six game suspension which we saw for some of those prior cross checks but you know I think the standard has been established here first of all crosschecking in the face whether intentional or not not allowed and you know the Riley case if you go back back and watch the video they talk about how they they don’t want those kind of cross checks particularly in instances where the game isn’t being played it’s not it’s not as an extension of something happening on the ice it’s a decision uh that’s been made and so I don’t know how they can get through this and not suspend them quite honestly I mean you know obviously there’s a there’s a pretty high bar for suspensions in the playoffs we haven’t seen yet one in in this year’s Stanley Cup playoffs but you know you’re talking about the the face of the league pretty much taking a cross check to the face after the the buzzer sounded I mean I I don’t even know how long we have to sit around and debate it it seems pretty clear-cut to me I guess there’s there’s more evidence there as as you allude to you know the the where mcdavid’s head was the position of it moved because he got cross checked from behind first by zadorov but um you know I’d be stunned if we’re if we’re not talking about a suspension in this case I just I just feel as though that the standard that was established this year is pretty clear in this regard and you I don’t think anyone’s debating what happened I mean it it’s we got we got more than enough video evidence to to see that Conor McDavid got cross checked in the face so I don’t know why the conversation needs to be any longer than that because the standard and consistency when it comes to the Department of player safety it just isn’t all that consistent I think the the biggest reason why there’s been discourse about all of this and even if by the time you get this episode there is a decision on Carson Susi or zadorov or whatever they end up saying this is going to rage on because we’ve seen the NHL not be consistent when it comes to these matters I was thinking about it all yesterday and I’m wondering if all we’ll see is a fine I I I’m totally anticipating that Carson Susi could just get fined at the end of all of this and that probably might not be the right thing CJ you might absolutely be right there might be a suspension doled out but we could totally see reaction coming the other way where people are wondering well hey should he be getting his suspension because of that intentional point of contact right like well you’re I don’t know familiar with the wheels of Justice when it comes to things that happen in the course of a game so one wheel of justice that spins around and they try to figure out what they want oh this is probably three games oh this is five games yes I’m very I’m nodding at your ball hockey suspension my friend oh that too but you know there’s another reference I’m making as well that only the real ones will get but yes fine the uh I I am familiar with the wheel of justice and so I I mean look it I’m willing to be wrong on this I mean this part part of recording 250 episodes is you’re going to say some things that get recorded that aren’t that don’t reflect what happens I just I don’t see how they get around suspension this case I really don’t think you want to put this this series into even more chaos and having retribution become part of it I mean we’ve already seen that a little bit in the Boston Florida Series where the Bruins went into you know the their most recent game game four talking about wanting to get back at Sam Bennett for you know his his apparent Sucker Punch on Brad Marian so I I just I feel as though you want to lower the temperature here you want to again it’s a cross check to the face like I I don’t know that I don’t know that we need to to break it down more than that you can have players hitting other players in the face with a stick like it’s just it like it’s actually that simple you’re using way too much common sense but we can twist ourselves into into not and and yeah but this yeah but that but like the the truth is is the outcome there there’s no way that I I just can’t imagine there is not supplemental discipline for that play I think you’re right and I’m sorry I’m sorry I’m like you you want a conversation here I’m not g giving because I’m like I can’t believe that there wouldn’t be we’re talking about Conor McDavid too and like as much as it’s like it should be equal and fair and all like the best player on the Oilers best in the world Hughes get dummied earlier in this series nothing happened there like there’s that other side of the argument too I get he’s not Conor McDavid but we’ve seen star players in that situation before and nothing happened from there like there’s genuine questions to be asked and I have no problem with you looking at that situation and just being like hey like common sense says that there should be a suspension but like I’d love to see more gray in it honestly because it’s more interesting because then we can be picking it aart I just I to me it’s a black and white thing I I agree age I just I I’m just anticipating that it could go the other way because and why are you crosschecking someone after the final buzzer you shouldn’t be doing it no but you’re doing it doing it even if physical because you’re not worried about a penalty being called you’re doing it as a way to try to you know dissuade that player to not saying they’re out to injure him specifically but it’s just about taking a little bit of a pound of Flesh at the end of it like it it i i i let’s see McDavid got a whack in there too remember yeah he did he did he did and remember the only penalty called at the end is Carson Susi I believe for crosschecking zadorov did not get called but I I feel like okay he got a whack in there fine it this was this goes back to the Riley thing like in all seriousness like he was provoked in theory by Ridley Greg I know we don’t have to go through that but like it doesn’t matter what there’s no excuse for crosschecking a player in the face at the end of the day it’s like my point is it doesn’t matter what is said or what is done to you that’s that’s raising the barn is a very dangerous Act and the league I just can’t imagine with several crosschecking suspensions this year not giving out another one in this case that’s it all right we’re gonna have to we’re gonna have to taken all the air out of this conversation but I I just can’t imagine it I’m okay with it because I think you argued it in a way where everyone should know this should make sense this should be the opinion that that Mak sense wow but we also understand the standard of of dealing with these situations is not always consistent I think you should be right in this situation but I’m also anticipating that you’re going to be wrong and it’s not because you you’re incom judging these things no it’s absolutely the opposite you’re smart in this situation it’s the people in charge who might not be the right people to to deal with these situations I don’t know tell me this did you uh have you played a ball hockey game since serving your suspension uh no the game uh I was suspended for was on Thursday and I believe the next game in our schedule is Thursday so I believe I would be eligible to come back for that game like have you heard from any members of your team like how is what what’s what’s the the the tldr here on our the little video we put out cuz uh a few a few of my team uh my team they think it’s funny some of them thought it was funny some of them thought it was funny that’s good I hope they don’t think we like making fun of them or the league or like that cuz it was all just no no I just think this is good fun I think this is really cool uh shout out to everyone who’s who’s shared the video and and sent me tweets about and not even just tweets but like texts I was doing radio in Calgary over the weekend and people were sending in questions be like how is this goon on the radio or whatever like like it’s I I don’t mind it I think it’s all good fun it’s fine it’s all good it’ll you know and you didn’t even cross check him in the face is my point like you delivered a cross check this is crosschecking by the way you did incredible work on the voice memo and Al and also now I just realized something could you imagine if if if Carson Susi and zadorov just get fined for what happened and like like what does that say that like if they get fed could you imagine where where they get fined and then like I get a worse suspension for what I did could you imagine what happens do you imagine what Justin Fischer and the sdpn going to do if that’s what happens later today it’s yeah there’s there’s a whole can of possibilities that might be open there for for some memes or some some kind of good social media action that was a lot of fun anyway I’m glad we made that happen that that honestly I hate to say it that might be like my favorite thing of the whole playoffs and it had nothing to do with the the hockey like I just that that thing took on a life of its own and you somehow got us the video and I’m we’re all better for it because it we had lots of laughs in the group chat on that thing I I I’m happy that everyone uh got a laugh out of it I did too uh one more thing about this uh Oilers conu series uh steuart Skinner not having a great time really not having a great time what have you thought of his goal tending and should the Oilers stick with him the rest of the way well what’s the other option you know this the always have put themselves in in a spot here where you have Calvin Pickard who’s who’s not started and played a complete Stanley Cup playoff game in his career you I guess Jack Campbell’s there he’s kind of as a number three guy he now he has played some big games and he’s played well in some big games but you know hasn’t played an NHL game in several months you know I I think that there I would I would have more time for kind of the debate about going away from Skinner based on his performance if if they had another option that was clearly better now I don’t know do they have their own arter covs in the bullpen is there is there some other goal because I will put my hand up and say I did not know much about Archer caves before he’s had this great run for the Canucks uh since getting thrown in in round one um so you know there there could be another performer out there that I’m just not aware of in their system you know once upon a time that was steuart Skinner he was kind of hyped up for a long time when Mike Smith was there obviously and was not getting a lot of starts but unless they they have some mystery goal tender that they that they have reason to believe could handle the load I I just I think you got to stick with them but you’re in a tough spot now right because you’re down 2-1 and if you start them in game four and it doesn’t go well you’re not switching away at that point right like you’re not gonna I guess maybe you do but down three1 I feel like you might have to right you’re at a desperation point to me if you’re switching you switch now because you do leave yourself one more opportunity to go back to Skinner I just I I can’t sit here and and bang the table and be like you have a better chance to win with with Jack Campbell or Calvin picker at this point in time I just I don’t you’re right I don’t see it but at the same time Skinner’s clearly struggling you know I saw that Chris noblock said postgame like we need more saves you know the Oilers had a pretty decisive Edge in in shots and and all the the metrics that you would measure for you know process stuff to win but they got behind early and the the Canucks defended hard and covs has been a revelation he’s been great in in you know a tough spot as kind of the third string goal tender uh who’s been been forced to play some big games for Vancouver so you know I think that they’re definitely at the point point where the coaching staff is having real discussion about it I just I don’t see it it would it feels risky to to put in one of those other two guys but again it was pretty risky to go a covs and that’s worked out for Vancouver so maybe fortune favors the Bold here in these calls I guess 796 save percentage for Stuart Skinner in this series 796 and isn’t his career playoffs like he’s an 8008 something I mean it’s it’s definitely higher than 79 look at the Oilers are team 908 in the playoffs I think oh no that’s a different stat but like still like it’s 796 is not good enough in this series no and and the Oilers are a team that can out outscore some of their problems from time to time um I mean they almost CDE back in that game and and you know hit some posts and stuff so I mean by no means do I think Edmonton’s out of it but you know you you’ve you’ve planted some doubt in the crease there and you know they need better from Skinner now remember he had a tough opening game in this this Stanley Cup playoffs and he came back and and and played great in that Series against Los Angeles so we’ve we’ve also seen him bounce back from sort of moments where he’s been tested or questioned before and I think that that probably gives you some confidence if you’re in the dressing room with them if you’re in the front office and you’re presiding kind of over what happens next but you know I I think that the Oilers really are in a position unless there’s an injury situation like something that you can’t like they’re playing Skinner the rest of the way I think like I I just don’t they haven’t really given themselves a true secondary choice that they’d be comfortable with this isn’t this is a swam and allmark type of dis discussion where you know you’ve got a pretty good you know the Bruins haven’t gone back to allmark too much but they’ve they’ve Still Got Confidence if they ever had to uh in him I I don’t I don’t think you have that same level of confidence in in Calvin Pickard and certainly not Jack Campbell after everything you’ve seen this this year from Campbell okay uh we will continue to follow the madness of the Canucks Oilers series as it’s getting spicy on Twitter it is getting very spicy out here did you see the did you see the markor column sorry I don’t mean to laugh I just didn’t expect that question to come through um I did not get it I I had other stuff going on this weekend I did not read it I didn’t get a chance to read spectre’s scum I had other stuff going on this weekend what I did not read the call not that I wouldn’t read a mark Spectre Callum I got no shade to wordss Mark Spectre I just did not get a chance to read the call well he really inflamed things and Mark has been a colleague of mine for a long time I know he’s been trending on Twitter over the weekend that I know for sure cuz he wrote entally and I I don’t want to take him out of context by paraphrasing you know a 900w column or whatever it was but he basically wrote that Canucks fans have kind of like a persecution complex and that they they always go into games expecting calls to go against them and you know he referenced that the sort of Roger neelen white white I you know what I did see that going around and like uh you know what I’ll let myself read the column before I give any real takes on it I don’t want to I I have to say it was already spicy out there in the in the Twitter verse but that that turned the volume up to like 15 um because you know for all kinds of reasons like I’ve seen some media members Vancouver media members having fun with it I’ve seen them maybe take a little bit more of a pointed shot at Mark I mean look Spec’s been around a long time he knew what he was doing spec knows what he yeah like that’s what I think about it spec knows how to inflame anything and that’s his job essentially that’s that’s not me making a comment on him like that’s his job if that if if he’s writing a column and it gets that reaction he’s trending on Twitter I know he was trending on Twitter uh after yesterday’s game like he’s doing his job essentially that’s how I feel about it yeah but it was anyway it was it it was look it this is what the playoffs are kind of about in a way like as much as I I imagine some people read that were like f you Spectre like you don’t you don’t understand I live in he gets that all the time but he knows he knows he’s going to get that reaction I’m just saying like all those sorts of things that happen in the playoffs that take on a life of their own I just feel like that’s part of what makes it fun if you’re in the middle of a series or if your team’s in it um and so anyway I I much I much enjoyed Spectre riling up the masses um he actually texted me and he’s like you should come out here and cover this series I was like dude you’ve made it oh really yeah I think he’s just having fun with me but I was like I’m not sure I can handle the heat out there I’m you know I’ve just been through my own uh the Toronto Boston gauntlet again for the fourth time in 12 years so I was about to say do you do you can you imagine going through Edmonton Vancouver after going through Toronto Boston your brain would just be mush well Mike zurger is doing it Ze did fly out to to join that series after doing the Friday press conference here with with all the Leafs brass so anyway yeah it’s uh it’s been a fun series the games have been pretty compelling how about Elias lindol and and Nikita zadorov two pending ufas I feel like they’re they’re giving their agents some good Mo for July 1st with how they performed in the playoffs and lindome especially it didn’t go well initially obviously after the trade from Calgary I think they struggled to find the right spot in the lineup for him we miss games with injury and all that but it’s amazing this is this is the actual argument for if you’re pening UFA and you’re on a team going nowhere that it’s it’s not the worst to get traded like I I realize it can be tough for your personal life if if you’ve got a partner or kids or whatever but in this case Lindo is literally making himself money I think I mean if you’re a team looking for the kind of player he is and you’re seeing him do this in the playoffs like it’s going to be a little easier to spend on on him come July 1 because he scored some massive goals for the cans helped them win games during this playoff run I think zadorov has been uh a real [ __ ] disturber uh which is what he’s good at there’s some great video of him from The Penalty Box like taking taking some yells and he’s just like he’s like mugging for the camera from the fan I mean I’m I’ve uh good for those guys it’s been been cool to see them especially lindom because I know it was a tough tough initial first few months there for in vanc but all that’s forgotten now he’s having success he’s got a chance to win a Stanley Cup and he’s probably getting paid come July 1 who’s paying him I don’t know too soon to say I mean let’s too soon to say let’s see where the dust sells I mean I think Vancouver would consider it but I absolutely think they would consider it but I could also see a world where the Boston Bruins throw a ton of money at Elias Leno makes sense right so I but I mean look it is too soon to say it’s May 13th it absolutely is too soon to say I I know what trades are happening between now and then like that the draft still has to go down I was just fishing for something you know let’s uh I know we all want to fast forward and know all the answers early but sometimes you just got to let time take its course okay speaking of trying to figure out all the answers uh we’re trying to make this one a little bit of a tighter episode here so I need you to go real quick I’m not helping I’m all over the place that’s okay uh we have to do a really quick Leaf corner here uh what’s the latest on who the next head coach is going to be well Craig Brew was in Toronto over over the weekend had a couple different meetings with Leaf’s brass you know i’ still of the view that he’s probably the favorite for this job um takes a lot of obvious boxes is as a former Stanley Cup winner experienced coach I think someone who uh you know might know how to to tighten the the whip a little bit to to you know deliver a message in a Stern way um you know so so he had first crack at sort of the interview process Todd McCullen is is next up on deck and and you know I’m not really sure if there’ll be another candidate that ends up being considered beyond that I mean we’ll see how things go we’ll see if anyone else shakes loose like a Rob bremore for example if there’s any world where he becomes available maybe you know he gets in the mix there you know maybe there’s a world where they get through these two interviews they’re like you know what we’re not totally 100% sold on one or the other um you know but at this point in time Brew mlen certainly are the the favorites and Brew’s already been through for some discussions and now Tod mclen gets a chance to do the same and and you know based on what Brad TR living said on Friday when when he met reporters alongside Keith py and Bren and Shanahan you know this don’t expect this to necessarily be a long search for the Leafs I don’t I don’t think that they’re going to talk to 15 candidates and and stretch this out over a period of time I think they recognize where they’re at on the calendar that there are other teams out there that have talked to these candidates you know brew has has spoke with New Jersey I think he’s going to get a crack at the Winnipeg job just in terms of having a discussion there um you know and so we’ll we’ll kind of have to see how everything shakes down but I think that’s sort of where the coaching thing is at and that’s you know that’s the next big and important decision in Toronto and then we’ll get on toh what they’re going to do with the core four or the core five or you know any any larger roster kind of decisions that need to to come down the pipe here uh we need to interrupt Leaf’s Corner uh it sounds like there this is from Elliot Freeman sounds like there will be a hearing for Carson Susi yeah I mean which I mean you know CJ kind of told you that was probably going to happen yeah you would really have to Galaxy brain it to not give him one yeah yeah I could understand that but I look this is going to be people are going to argue both sides of this it is what it is uh do we have a uh unless you were going to you were going to add something but uh could we lump in Sheldon Keefe and the fact that New Jersey has come up as a possibility for the head well the Devils certainly are are interested um and you know I think the big decision for Sheldon Keefe is does he want to work again this soon and you know that’s a that that’s probably not an easy decision to make I mean he’s he’s got two more years under contract from the Leafs so he doesn’t have to worry about you know his family or any of those other things you could imagine how stressful I mean every coaching job is ridiculously stress stressful but I do think um you know doing it in a place like Toronto with the media tension with every one of your comments being dissected and interpreted and you know there’s a lot of little many controversies that come out of being the the coach of the Toronto Maple Leafs who speaks two or three times a day um you know he may elect to to take some time I I don’t have any reason to believe he’s made that decision but certainly the Devils have interest in him and I I think Sheldon Keef quite honestly is in a position where he can be a little bit picky it’s not to say he wouldn’t want to go to New Jersey but maybe the timing isn’t right so much and you know you can’t tell me someone who has the points percentage he has after 350 odd NHL games coach won’t have another chance to coach a good team and so you know we’ll have to see how that that bounces together and and you know I don’t know that we we call him the lead candidate New Jersey I think the devils are looking at a variety of people but certainly they they’d like to to talk with Sheldon and you know it’s really down to is he ready to jump right back into the fire after what he’s been through and so until he makes that decision it’s hard to to say where things will go or won’t go with with New Jersey okay we’ll be on the lookout for any more stories as it pertains to one shelden Keef let’s go through ask CJ real quick here uh we got a couple of questions here thank you to everyone who sent in questions on Discord and on Twitter from Nick vany or Vy probably vany uh status on Mor cider and Lucas Raymond extensions in Detroit well it’s interesting that uh Raymond went to the worlds given that he is a pending RFA not sometimes players are concerned about that uh scored a nice goal there if you saw for Sweden uh don’t have any specific news but I don’t think there’s a lot to worry about either I mean these guys are fully under team control coming off their entry level contracts as we’ve seen in many cases sometimes it takes time to to get those sorts of deals done obviously as after on July 1 or Beyond they’re eligible to sign offer sheets but you know I don’t I don’t think many teams view that as as a huge pressure point because we just don’t see very many offer sheet sign and and if it’s if someone signs you to an offer sheet like the Habs did with Sebastian AO all those years ago sometimes it just eliminates the negotiation and you just take you take the terms of that offer and move forward so um you know obviously two important players for Detroit but I don’t have any sense that there’s anything going wrong there um probably not a conversation though or any urgency until June next one from Jacob wette uh simple one I’ve been trying so hard as a Bruins fan to take my black and gold blinders off how is that not [Music] goenda reference to Sam Bennett and Charlie Coyle uh in front of the net during their game on Sunday I don’t know how that wasn’t gender interference either that was crazy yeah my instincts watching the game in the moment was that that goal was going to come off the board I thought that it was going to be deemed gender interference you know this is this is we have to highlight this it’s a subjective call right it it’s there’s an interpretation that’s that’s made by the The Situation Room when those play are challenged I think it makes it incredibly difficult for the video coaches who have to you know in 20 or 30 seconds signal to their bench that there should be a challenge um just given how important the games are the fact I mean the Bruins ended up killing the penalty that came out of an incorrect challenge there but it’s subjective it’s it’s not entirely black and white you know Coyle does appear to be going into the blue paint on his own initially before he’s um you know pushed or cross checked there into his go tender you know it sounds as though The Situation Room deem that Swan wouldn’t have been able to get over and stop the puck anyway it’s a hard one it’s just it is I’m not going to come out I look at if if I was the fan of that team I’d be pissed too like like I I get it I understand why there’s discussion there I just don’t know that I can sit here and say they definitely got it wrong either um but it’s it’s it’s a hard one to challenge it’s a hard it’s a hard one to say what’s going to happen because each play isn’t quite the same I mean you look at the wording of the rule I mean if a player gets pushed into his goalie that’s deemed as as go tender interference by the NHL rule book and and coil certainly got pushed into Swan they just viewed that that wasn’t you know it was part of the play it was it and it it wasn’t the reason that there there was a goal there so um the got it wrong it should have been it should have been goal I mean I mean no it I anyway I’m not going I wasn’t not reacting I was like I’m giving you the floor like no I just like go off brother like I’m I’m all for it he pushed he pushed him into the goalie like what I don’t know I just I know I’m we in the interest of time I will I will Reserve judgment on that one but he pushed him into the goal like anyway uh this next one from John R cat friendly doesn’t have it but I’m hearing Julian is in the UFA at the end of the season is his Department of player safety history going to affect his prospects this offseason I don’t even know how to take that I mean I don’t even know how to answer that question I I will be taking some time to consider my future at some point I guess I don’t know that’s his best that’s my that’s my diplomatic answer to that question I’m play around obviously yeah I mean the the the problem that we have in our world is we don’t have 31 other potential employers so I mean it’s uh I think Julian will be just fine he’s doing an a job and uh you know if anything I I think I think employers might look at that and be like I like a like little grit there you know we we got we got an employee who doesn’t mind going to the dirty areas uh who will do anything to get the job done so I don’t I I’m not too worried about you Julian you’re going to be good brother likewise for you sir I think you’re going to be just fine last one for you uh Congo red Adam Adam wild made reference to ways teams can make a player with a no trade clause or no movement clause motivated to accept a move what are those things well I mean if we’re we’re probably time at the leaves here given like the question so let’s take possibility yes but let’s take it out of the hypothetical and bring it into the real world if if if if not saying this has happened if if the leaves get to a point where they want to try to trade Mitch Marner you you can go off the players’s current circumstances he doesn’t have a contract Beyond this coming season so you can say to him look we’re not signing you under any circumstances like you’re not getting an extension here and we know you like playing with Austin Matthews but we just we don’t see that as the right fit for our team so we’re going to play you in spot X or Y in our lineup and you know we don’t really think you should be killing penalties anymore like you can as a team here’s the thing Julian can you imagine even if you had a contract like if the athletic came to you or the stpn came to you and we’re like we just don’t want to employ you anymore we know you have a year on your deal like do would you really want to keep working there like I’m guessing especially when you have other teams out there around the league that would want to employ you that would want to trade for you and immediately give you an eight-year extension which means you have nine year you have like your entire families forever uh secured because NHL contracts are fully guaranteed at least to 66% which is the amount they can be bought out for I just think that when you have that discussion it would be hard to stay there and so I think that that’s what Adam is referencing you you can make it clear to a player that he’s probably not going to enjoy what the next year looks like and keep in mind whether it’s in Toronto or somewhere else next season is big for Mitch Marner he’s trying to have a big year so that his next payday is is a is a good one and and if the team is not going to play you in certain spots you like if you think it’s just not going to be the right atmosphere to have your best success I mean it’s who would want to be there and you know I do think in Toronto it’s being missed a little bit as we sort of work through the various discussions in the media about how this might work with whether it’s Mitch Marner or someone else I mean lots of players with no movement Clauses get traded it it happens I won’t say routinely but it it certainly has happened regularly like I I think back to Ryan mcdna that guy was an absolute horse for the Tampa they win the cup with him in 2020 they win the cup with him in 2021 they go to The Cup Final in 2022 he’s playing all kinds of minutes three days after that season Julian breb the GM the lightning has a meeting with him and says look we just can’t fit your cap anymore where where would you like to be traded and within a week he’s traded to Nashville Ryan mcdunn like any player did not want to leave Tampa he had just been to three straight Cup finals with this team it’s a great place to live awesome setup for players you got your life dialed in you’re tight with all these guys on the team you’ve just given Blood Sweat and Tears for the organization and they’re like sorry we can’t make this work anymore and then you got to be traded and and look it I I think life has been okay for him in National League I’m not but I’m I’m just saying this this this does happen in our league and you know the Leafs have not taken that route before with any players but it’s a different offseason right you’ve just had Keith P speak at a press conference talking about like we’re not here to sell sweaters jerseys we’re here to win Stanley Cups and so I think there’s going to be some hard conversations I don’t know how those things are going to go I don’t know you know at this point in time I have no reason to believe Mitch Marner wants to leave Toronto but if he’s not wanted to the degree he has been wanted I think ultimately there’s a way to maybe get there now has a full no movement Clause he doesn’t have to do anything he certainly I don’t think he’s going to get bullied into going into some team he wouldn’t want to play for but you know the reality is it’s a 32 Team league there’s a lot of other appealing cities to call home that may have some advantages be they the level of attention or lack thereof be they tax benefits be they weather benefits be they just hey it’s not Toronto where I’m in the freaking uh Fishbowl all the time after eight years of it I mean I wouldn’t fault Mitch mner or his family or anyone else if if they just feel like maybe a fresh start is good and so that that those conversations are going to take a bit of time but I I do think that’s sort of what Adam’s winking at I didn’t I didn’t hear his episode but you know who wants to play for someone who says I don’t want you here that’d be really really really hard yeah go we all want to be wanted whatever we’re doing we all want to feel like we’re part of making something better we all want to feel like like our efforts are valued the time we put in the sacrifices we make for our family that it’s worthwhile um it’s hard when you get to a spot where you don’t feel those things at work I think probably lots of our listeners have felt that in whatever kind of careers you’re in but when you’re in the right spot and you feel like your bosses value what you do and they appreciate the extra effort you put in and they pay you an amount that you can that you feel as Equitable for what you’re giving them I mean that’s that’s what that’s what everyone should want I mean that’s that’s when life flows easy is when you feel like basically you’re you’re getting you’re in the right spot you’re aligned with where the organization wants ago and I think if the organization makes you feel like hey you’re not part of the solution here anymore like frankly we’re not signing you after next year anyway no matter what happens I think it’s a lot easier to imagine hey maybe I’m going to go somewhere where I’m wanted a little more than I am right here right now wise words from Siege uh we are going to wrap this one up thanks for everyone who sent in questions we’ll be back on Thursday with a brand new episode of the CJ show uh subscribe to our show whether on YouTube through the stpn page or however you listen to our show whether it’s on 1. I’m in my 60’s
NHL officiating was a joke when I was a child, a joke in my teens, 20’s, 30’s, 40’s and 50’s
    Nothing has changed
Gary can lawyer it to death n back
It’s still a joke, not sure why they waste money printing rulebooks?
    What for?

  2. Look, 2 handed crosscheck is bad, but Soucy wasn't going for his head, also what about the 2 handed chop from McD? I know he's the golden boy and we've seen all this crap before with gretz, but how about some discipline on that?

  3. Should be 1 game because it's 2nd round in playoffs and McDavid didn't look to be hurt. Would be 4 in regular season me thinks

  4. Chris, come on man. McDavid starts/escalates the situation after the game ends with a 2 handed slash. Again, after the game ends. It's not black and white.

  5. Nah Twitter idiots want John Q. Since apparently its the"libs"fault for banning him since he knew what was going on and stuff. Guess that same guy wants the LDN 5 back in the NHL, even if they are proven Guilty or not. Ppl love to bring politics into everything on Twitter eh. Plus they are waiting to see if Rod gets the boot but even than the Devils are waiting too

  6. how bloody stupid! McDavid injured Hughes with a stick to the face. McDavid wasn't injured at all. Funny how McDavid's wicked 2 hander slash gets left out… such a double standard.

  7. 4:52 Mark Chris says " we cant have people hitting other people in the face with a stick" so by that logic McSlasher shouldn't have even been in game 3 because he slashed Quinn Hughes in the face and drew blood. NO CALL, NO SUPPLEMENTRARY DISCIPLINE. If anyone has a issue with stick infractions its Connor McDavid. He 2 hand chopped Soucey to start the whole fiasco. FAFO. Yes Soucey has to be in control of his stick, he also doesn't have a history of incidents like this, a one game suspension is warranted anymore and its complete BS. If McDavid skates away at the end of the game and doesn't axe chop Soucey he doesn't get cross-checked.

  8. Allowing the Sam Bennett play that should have been goalie interference sets a dangerous precedent that will be blatantly ignored when someone does that to a Panthers player into Bob. WORST LEAGUE WITH THE MOST COWARDLY LEADERSHIP.

  9. Is there a possibility for the Leafs to renegotiate Tavares contract, have him sign for a lesser amount next year while adding 2 or 3 additonal years to be an assistant coach or even an assistant player coach? Would that affect next years cap hit? Or, would it not even be allowed under the NHL rules.

  10. I don't understand why Boston fans would complain about the interference thing as if it matters. I lost count how many times a bad call was made on the Leafs that could have made a difference, but the reality was, the Leafs were never the better team regardless and Boston was horribly outplayed on Sunday as well. Just accept your team is not the better team here and that your team is going to lose regardless if the refs help you or hurt – it will not matter. Florida will win. Enjoy the 2nd round for what it is.

Fans would have a point if their team was objectively playing better and the refs were screwing them, but that's just not the case here. They stink when they compare to Florida. Florida is 2x as good.

  11. Specter was 100% correct on the assessment of the Canuck fans. They fill their diaper at the slightest infraction, and everything is an absolute purposeful intent to injure. They never seem to notice any of the infractions by their team.

  12. you crossed checked because he 2 handed slashed him.. what is this rockets science.. what you think hes going to do.. you homer.. we know what team youre cheering for. the dangerous slew foot on hughes was ten times worse.. mcdavid %^$$$ around and found out.. hes gonna keep finding out

  13. Any slash by any player – like McDavid’s at the end of the game – should be 2 game suspension to McDavid. Why did Connor not just drop his gloves like a man? The cross checks to McDavid were just done by the Canucks in self defence. If McDavid didn’t start this stick attack or if Connor was immediately suspended for 2 games for starting the stick war – I am all good with that. 😀

  14. McCrybaby started it and Big Z and Soucy finished it. No harm no foul. A lot of weak kneed of eastern hockey pundits chiming in for little baby Connor.

  15. Look. I agree a suspension on that cross check is required, however I disagree with it being against Soucy. I know they say intentionally or accidentally doesn’t matter, but in this case I believe it does. If Zadorov doesn’t cross check McDavid from behind, it’s a non-issue. The cross check, more like a shove, hits him low in the chest, and with just enough force to push him away. You wanna call that, then make sure you call every player that shoves a guy in the slot when battling for position.

As I said, I think a suspension is warranted, but I think it should be against Zadorov. He was the one who cross checked an unsuspecting player from behind, and it was his deliberate illegal action that cause the cross check to the face. So honestly, I’d give Sousy a fine, and Zadorov the suspension.

  16. If Soucy only gets fined, the DOPS is basically setting up a 'dunking booth' situation. "Step right up and cross-check McDavid in the face! Only $5000!"

  17. Anything less than 6 games is a joke. Player safety is a joke. NHL Player safety has been a joke for years.

  18. Exactly CJ. Ryan McDonough is a perfect example for how an NMC can be waived. And he, unlike Marner, had come off a lot of winning, and he still understood that there was no room for his cap hit and waived his NMC.

  19. HA! if Bruins fans think they're getting ANY CALLS from the situation room after beating the Leafs AGAIN they are effing DELUSIONAL. (Note yes im a delusional Leafs fan who's peeved that my team is out AGAIN EARLY)

  20. I love how everyone is pointing out the slash Mcdavid did to try to say the cross check was fair (which it's not, soucy deserves the suspension because he did cross check McDavids head accident or not) but no one is talking about Zach Hyman charging in on the same scrum with an intentional Cross check to Big Zeds Head obviously intending on hurting him but because big Zed didn't fall down from it and because he is not a star player there is no suspension on Hyman? that's a double standard!

  21. “Why are you cross checking someone at the end of the game?”

Were you just assessing the moment of zadorovs crosscheck onward? 😅

  22. Please stop calling it Department of Player Safety…they don't do that. They are supplemental discipline…sometimes….Kadri get's multiple games….Montour checks Kucherov in the head…2 min penalty.
