everyone Matt here from Doc Runing and today we’re going to do an extended overview of the best stability shoes available right now so we’ve done a lot of big overviews of stability shoes recently it’s January 5th at the moment early 2024 we’ve done a best of 2023 which was really exciting and actually one of those shoes is well two of those shoes going to be on there um we’ve done some kind of look ahads and are very excited to see what’s going to be available in 2024 because there’s some really cool updates that I’m very excited for and hopefully not disappointing but there’s also some stuff that’s still available and really awesome from 2022 so having all these decisions is probably going to go wow this is really confusing what do I look at so I’m hoping to give you some best of categories for a couple different areas so first I want to go through is best of for standing in Walking In terms of stability best overall daily training stability shoe best high drop stability shoe we’ll talk about why that sometimes can be a helpful thing for certain people we’ll also talk about the best kind of distance racing uptempo stability shoe and then we’ll talk about even though there’s only one shoe in this category the kind of the best shorter distance like faster stability shoe and hopefully it’s gives you some guidance so best walking and standing stability shoe I got a hand to the A6 ke 30 this shoe has been completely underdone uh overdone not overdone redone um from top to bottom I really have enjoyed actually standing and walking the shoe a lot I did 100 mile review of it because I also did enjoy running in it it was a little heavy it is 10.7 ounces um which isn’t too far off from some of the averages it just felt a little heavier than it need to be and I’m excited to see if that can drop in the next version but it’s still a smooth shoe and it’s a great shoe that is very cushion for long long miles be it’s standing running or walking I was very interested cuz actually been walking around and observing people Mall especially during the holidays and then being in the hospital either working in the hospital or my wife giving birth in the hospital not too long ago lot of people wearing this shoe and actually taking the spaces of some of the hokas out there although the hoko gavida is obviously is still a popular one just because Hoka but the keo’s been taking a lot more position just because I think it does a great job of a couple things first of all the fit is much wider than previous it’s really comfortable you can splay your toes it feels really nice and it accommodates swelling over a super long time so if you’re standing naturally you’re going to get some foot swelling if you’re walking or running over the day you’re going to get some foot swelling this accom upper accommodates it really well and feels very comfortable in the process while still being really nice and secure the way the shoe is designed there’s a lot more cushioning now that it’s more maximal um it’s 30 40 mm in the heel 30 in the 4 foot I’m not going to remember the sack for all these but I do remember that one cuz it’s fairly easy to remember that there’s a ton of cushioning Under Foot and it’s very nice if you’re working on firmer surfaces or walking on firmer surfaces so working in the hospital again they’ve got that firm I don’t know what that material is but just that firm really stiff material underfoot that doesn’t feel great being like Clint Nooks to Barefoot in this cushioning does plenty of protection in there and then if you got to walk the way the shoes design it’s very well rockered could the bevel be a little bit like you know reduce that poster flare a little bit yes but just now they’re finally as6 is finally curving the heel and the transition is really smooth again for walking and for running although I would like the beev a little reduced the stability is good it’s got both medial and lateral stability with the sidewalls a really wide base which feels really comfortable walking and standing and then it’s got some internal geometry that when you sink into it it just feels very nice and supportive so that’s why the Keo 30 is my top shoe for the best standing and walking stability shoe available right now now so moving on to best just daily training shoe stability shoe I know it’s another A6 shoe but the GT 2012 blew me out of the water and I don’t mean to be rude but vers the previous versions were boring they were just like it’s just the A6 2000 like it’s not special fairly average like blah blah blah this version really kind of kicked out of the water and was my stability shoe of the year for 2023 because brand new foam geometry really rocker it’s 9.5 o for mensiz KN so much lighter than previous versions and with the foam update it’s something that actually feels somewhat versatile where feels great for daily training feels great for long runs but also feels great you can pick up the pace I’ve done farlex in this shoe I’ve done some temple runs it actually feels really good if you want to do that not the best in my opinion for racing but let’s say you find like super shoes too aggressive and you still want a stability shoe this actually might do well for you although there’s another shoe I might suggest if you’re thinking about racing um fit is is kind of more performance as kind of a little bit more snug as Classics for A6 and the durability has been awesome another I got 100 mile review on that it did really really good it’s just fun it’s not boring anymore it’s just a fun shoe and I think it was done really really well and again the bevel is improving good job as6 so again smooth transition no matter where you go so overall I think if you’re looking for a just stability dailying Trad isoe that still gives you a good amount of medial support the dt22 is the top of my list overall for all this stuff now if you’re looking for a high drop stability shoe which some people still look for 12 mm drop the zuno wave inspired 20 is still one of the top shoes in this list now it’s got a 12 mm drop fairly highight it’s like 38 1/2 I think 26 and a half uh please don’t quote me on that it it it’s got a 12mm heel drop for those with Achilles tendon issues a higher drop can definitely take some pressure off there for those with some poster tibialis issues the muscle that helps control some of the medial support on the inside of your foot having some stability and higher drop shoe can really take pressure off this if it’s irritated or if you know it’s something that’s sensitive I really like the and I have almost 100 miles on these because previous inspires honestly were super clunky the high drop the stiffer foam this with the new misson energy foam and the way that they’re using it felt so much smoother and actually didn’t feel like a high drop shoe just because the heel bevel and the way the heel transits is so smooth that I even though it’s fairly heavy at 10.7 o I kept training in it cuz I actually really really enjoyed it the fit also is really nice classic from Muna where there’s a little bit more room in the toe box and then it gets a little bit more stun through the heel just very comfortable upper comfortable heel comfortable transition while still providing some good stability and a higher drop if that’s something you need so best higher drop shoe the Inspire 19 definitely wins out on that in terms of your kind of little faster your longer distance shoe shoe that can handle being for a training shoe but also a great Marathon racer and faster shoe the S Tempest still wins out we really haven’t seen anything else major show up in this category that has a super F I will get credit to stuff like the bricks launch GTS which is lighter than your shoe this is 8.9 o men size night I think the launch GTS is 8.4 it is lighter but it doesn’t have a super foam and this one just feels better running faster it’s also got some newer Concepts where yes there is medial stability here but there’s also some lateral so it’s got a really nice centered ride then plus the power on PB having power on PB is phenomenal and a super shoe and not a super shoe in a stability shoe although the new um hurricane that’s coming this next year is going to change that so we’ll see what happens with that shoe but in terms of add a lighter shoe that would definitely work as a marathon racer for people that need stability or a fast shoe I’ve done any every work that you can think of tempo runs intervals farlex hill repeats long long long long runs faster long runs I’ve done it in this shoe and it’s done really really well it’s kind of my go-to shoe I’ve got 200 miles on this pair I’ve been very sad I haven’t gotten a lot of miles on them recently because there’s so much other stuff to test but it’s just been my go-to if I need stability over faster or longer efforts so very good shoe definitely fits a little bit more snug in the four foot heel for midfoot sorry is a little bit wider so I had to Snug that down stiffer heal counter but a nice bounce without also being too stiff so because sometimes that can be a little irritating but all the great guidance stability methods you would want in a shoe that’s meant for faster running now last but not least although the only one its category is the Hyperion GTS so this shoe is coming in at 7.9 o so it is the lightest stability shoe to my knowledge out there it’s more traditional you know it’s using the um blanking on the name of the phone um but the the DNA flash that’s right um which is actually the best version of this that I felt I think when they have higher stack versions it just feels weirdly firm this one actually feels pretty good there’s some bounce for it but it’s not a super shoe okay it’s meant as a faster shoe it’s 7.9 ounces like I said M size 9 and the guide rails truly make it feel like a mild stability shoe and it being the lightest in this category it’s probably the closest to a mile stability racing flat that we even have it’s 25 in the heel 17 the four for an 8mm drop all that feels a little bit lower than that just because it’s sitting so the ground durability is awesome I actually have 100 miles in these right now I need to do a 100 mile review durability has been phenomenal which is great cuz I honestly for how little shoe there was I was like why are you charging 140 bucks for this and it’s actually holding up really really well it is great for a lot of shorter efforts for doing intervals for doing track stuff if you need some stability and finding other options out there aren’t great enough if you’re also someone that needs stability and just wants to work on a little bit less shoe work on foot strength work on some strides things like that it’s also good shoe and what’s really nice is it actually fits a little bit wider in the forefoot it snugs up nicely I it didn’t have to lace lock or do anything to the shoe it just has a little bit extra wiggle room in the forefoot which isn’t super common for faster shoes like this but I also think that help helps from a stability standpoint CU just everything’s a little bit wider you can spread your forefoot it’s just a solid shoe what I like to see a true super form in this yes but I don’t know if that’s going to happen we’ll see with the Hyperion gts2 if it comes out this year but that’s the lineup there’s some really really great stability shoes out there they’re not as boring as they used to be and we’re starting to see some potential like inklings that we might see even more cool stuff in 2024 so this is the best stuff that’s available right at this moment as of January 5th check back soon CU we’ll have some updated reviews to see what happened to the next version of these shoes

  1. Thanks for another great review and recommendations. Question, I'm a bigger runner with a wider foot. I have had my gait analyzed and also had a foot scan at a running store. I have been categorized as a overpronator and told I should be in a stability/support shoe. I have tried different brands and models over the years and I always seem to go back to a neutral shoe. Am I not giving the support shoe enough time or is it ok to stay with a neutral shoe? Thank you for your time and your insight, it's much appreciated.

  2. For long walks, standing and daily use which is better, the Kayano 30 or the Gaviota 5?

For reference, My feet is completely flat and have no arches and also wide.

Which of the 2 would be a better option for my feet and usecase?

  3. I'm on my second pair of Tempus. Both looking forward to the new version coming out this year, but also worried they'll screw up my favorite shoe.

  4. I'm planning to buy Kayano. But recently I bought a pair of Skechers Persistence Archfit for stability, which also has a carbon infused plate at the forefoot. The foam's a little on the firmer side, but it supports my arches and feels good while running. And it was responsive with forefoot strike and whenever I land on heel, it just rolls and propels me forward. So far so good.
Only thing I felt, IMO, grip could've been better.

  5. The Tempus 2 will be just incredible with that new upper. It's a stability shoe that doesn't make any sense, really.

  6. Which would you recommend that's a little wider in the midfoot? Went on a hilly 8 mile run in my Gel-Nimbus 24 and got some gnarly blisters on the medial side of my arch close to the start of the ball of my foot. Thinking the shoes may be a little bit too narrow in that area

  7. Great video! I wore a pair Saucony Speed 2's for my first marathon. I over pronate and wear orthotics. They felt very unstable and ended up with achilles issues after. My second marathon I wore the Hoka Rocket X. Loved the shoe as it felt very stable and no issues after. Unfortunately it is no longer available and I am not sure if the Rocket x 2 would be as stable as the original. Based upon your video I am leaning to the Tempus. Thanks for all the great info

  8. I have the Tempus and it gives me problems every time I'm attempting to do more than a Parkrun with it.
Yesterday I've done a 30km+ run and it really pushed into the arch on my right side (I have high arches).
That run resulted in lot of discomfort and a massive blister at the front part of my arch.

Does the 2000-12 feel less intrusive for the arches?
Still enjoy my Tempus, because it is so good for intervals and fast runs.
I need to find something else for those long runs tho.

  9. Quick thoughts on the inspire 19 vs 20? Only able to try out the 20 in-store, but clearance price on the 19 online is really tempting.

  10. I agree with you that kayano is best for walking and standing. I have kayano 30 & gt-2000 12. I'm not too happy with the weight of the kayano, gt-2000 weight feels perfect for me. I wish I was buying gt-2000 first, now my kayano is just collecting the dust, but i'm planning to use it as my daily walking shoes when my primary walking shoes is wearing down.

  11. Recently went to Hoka Arahi from brooks Hyperion gts. Get constant blisters from all my stability shoes on the balls of my feet, which is where my ankles roll inwards. Any advice please?

  12. I'm finding myself very happy with the Brooks Glycerine GTS 20, because they are really very comfortable and have good stability. The Saucony, I have not tried them, while the Kayano 30 and the Inspire 20, I have not didn't like it at all. Because I didn't feel they were suitable for my feet, in the most absolute way.

  13. Are there any 5mm or less drop lower stack shoes no more than 24mm at the toes, and even now since Hoka destroyed the new Mach 6, non stability shoes (excluding Skechers, Nike and New Balance which I don't buy due to them financially supporting abortion)?

  14. If you could only take one stability shoe on a Special Forces type selection where you will spend lots of time running to and fro, doing pt in them and doing timed sub 21min 5km runs, would you take the gt 2000?

  15. My gf requires stabiltiy shoes…she is currently running in the mizuno wave inspires and claims theyre too firm. What's a step up in cushioning

  16. I have a pair of GT-2000 11 GTX which give me the support I need but I need something with more cushioning. I switched to NIKE INVINCIBLE RUN but honestly these aren't supportive enough but do have great cushioning. Can you recommend anything?

  17. Excellent Video! I also like your video on high arches. Could you suggest a shoe? I have high arches, am heavy and looking for a shoe for short runs and 45-60 minute tabata/circuit sessions. (Box jumping, short sprints, squats, etc.) At 62, my main objective is foot security. Thanks!

  18. I'm training for a half marathon in a Gt 2000 10. I was thinking about upgrading for a GT 2000 12, once I already like the 10th version so much, but I do feel it a little too "harsh" in longer distances. I have a pronated step. Would the Mizuno Wave be a better option?
