Haller golf club uh we played here in 2014 guess who won that yes Rory mroy who swept up last week at Quil Hollow at the worlds Fargo Championship will lightning strike 10 years later on worth noting but when he won the PJ Championship here 10 years ago well actually 10 and a bit years ago cuz they played it in August then he came in after winning the Open Championship the WGC Bridgestone Invitational this time around of course he’s won the Zurich Classic of New Orleans with Shane Larry he’s then won for the fourth time at qua Hollow at the Wells Fargo signature level event he’s going to take some stopping of course we’ve got Scotty Sheffer the world world number one also returning who is on a little bit of a tear as well and throw into the mix the defending Champion five time major Champion Brooks Kea also coming in off a win it should be an absolute CER this week right valella 96 2024 PGA championships have been hosted here 2008 Rider cup the course itself is a Jack Nicholas original 1984 1985 it was renovated in 2011 prior to the 2014 PGA plus Nicholas design team have got involved in 2021 they’ve uh lengthened the golf course 7,609 yards it’s a par 71 um I CL classic or categorize it as classical technical in length and of technical it’s probably going to be mids score actually I reckon low double digits could win this and in terms of its length of course 7 69 yards as a par 71 is certainly long number of holes with water in place seven number of Sand Bay Bankers 60 ACR of Fairway 23 Fairways are Zeon zoa grass that is different to when they played here in 2014 uh the rough is Kentucky Bluegrass with tall fescue Just 4 Ines in length a little bit different to what we saw at Wells Far last week I’ll throw that one at you 5,000 square F feet on average the green patting surfaces they are T1 Bentgrass there is due to be a lot of rain in the area from potentially even Monday night so tonight I’m recording this on Monday over here in the UK shes outside of London um more likely rain on Tuesday right through Wednesday High percentages so I think we are likely to see a soft Golf Course when they tee off on Thursday there’s also rain likely on Friday the only bit of bad weather in terms of rain and wind is the Friday whether it interrupts who knows but apart from that Thursday looks great Saturday looks great Sunday looks great temperatures around about that 24 to 27 I believe Celsius 24 to 28 which is 75 to 82 Fahrenheit for those of you in the United States don’t forget 340 likes so please press that like button you can to do well here this week on this golf course now what we’ve done here we’ve taken B Reeve which had very similar Agronomy uh when they played near St Louis wasn’t it St Louis Lou St Louis Missouri back in 2018 I’ve taken Beth Page black I’ve taken um Southern Hills and I’ve taken Oak Hill last year big boom in PGA T tracks PGA Championship tracks rather what do winners do well there from a Strokes game perspective to win the tournament well on average seventh for strokes gained off the tea around those four courses 13th for strokes gained on a approach 23rd for strokes gained around the green fifth in terms of the field that make the cut in terms of Strokes gained T to green and 21st for strokes gained patting this is not going to be like qua Hollow last week where again I think Rory maroy was in the top 10 for strokes game putting to get the job done at qua Hollow it’s more likely that the amount of Strokes gained will be around about that of quarter to half a stroke uh a half a stroke gained pting each round on the greens good driving you’ve got to be long um if you’re not long at least be a average to higher end driver of the golf ball and be dead straight you’ve got to have your approach play about you of course oakill fifth for strokes gained on approach Beth Page black first for strokes gained on the approach that was Brooks kepka b reev he was ninth The Strokes gained on approach the outlier Justin Thomas when he1 at Southern Hills he drove the ball okay uh he was 38 for strokes gain on approach he was great around the greens 13th for strokes gained around the green 16th T to Green second yeah you heard that right this was the time when Justin Thomas could P second for strokes gained putting when winning at Southern Hills two years ago so I think it’s going to be very similar good very strong off the tea we need good approach great te to Green and A moderately warm pter these are bent grass greens right here are uh I’ll tell you what else I’ll do while I’m while I’m talking about that I’ll take you through The Strokes gain numbers of uh Rory maroy when he won here in 2014 Just for some context he was first for off the T 11th for approach uh 34 for around the green uh he was third for t to green and 12th for patting interestingly enough he gained three Strokes per round T green 73% he also gr gained 1.11 Strokes putting so there could be something here that says we need someone that’s going to gain around about a stroke in terms of their positivity on the greens and from memory of as well I think uh a lot of the guys that were in the top 10 with him Phil Mickelson Ricky Fowler Henrik Stenson all had great pting weeks top 12 for patting and we’re in the top 10 m illam was in there I think there was only one player uh it could have been Victor DEA who was better from ta to Green than Rory maroy but was negative on the greens now if that carries through we might need somebody that’s not going to be Scotty Sheffer esque that’s kind of neutral with the PS and Claus he going to be top five I get all that but doesn’t actually get over the line it could be someone that’s needs a bit of a warmer putter Food For Thought a bummer who can put well that’s kind of where we’re heading with this by the looks of it or a very solid strong driver of the golf ball great with their approaches and can put around about that half to 3/4s of a point per round positively on the Bentgrass greens top 10 of my predictor model I will put a link through to the current PJ Championship predictor model in the description box along with my golf betting preview that’s in there also major championship Strokes uh major championship form so what players have been best at Majors going back I think it’s 2015 Masters could be 2016 Masters right top you hear that name anywhere else with Patrick Reed eight is Taylor guch seven wacky Neeman six is ludvig oberg four is Tyrell Hatton tied with Xander schaule three Sebastian Soderberg two Dean beresta number one Scotty Sheffer if you’re looking for pj2 of players over and above that Christian Baden who Russell Henley we’ve also got Patrick kley out there Tommy Fleetwood sewo Kim Denny McCarthy blah blah blah clearly the size of fields helps in terms of Strokes gain numbers for those that play on the live but when you’ve got lots and lots of uh relatively small tournaments anyway within that you got the Masters you got the RBC Heritage you’ve also got last week’s Quail Hollow yeah it Ways and Means around it but uh I think that those numbers are worth looking into right winning price of winners here nice to see that I’ve actually let the front door go and that’s the dedication I’ve got to you guys whoever is out there is either waiting or they have disappeared don’t forget like me on got this situation with Rory we’ve still got this situation with Scotty where single digit prices keep winning so it could be a case again this week either Scotty Sheffer who I think we can take on and also Rory maroy who has to be of course a very very large danger I’m going to take you through mine first up for me I’ve gone three points each way 14 to1 with bet 365 eight places each way Brook Brooks kepka Brooks kepka major championship monster five Majors five of kkas 13 PGA uh stroke Liv T wins have come five of them five of 13 have come at majers it’s incredible he just loves the majors he’s coming here off a win I always like booking uh backing Brooks at the PJ Championship he’s hitting the ball nicely his greens in regulation numbers are fantastic and that victory that he had at Liv Singapore a few couple of weeks ago on zoa grass Fairways he clearly played well at B Reed where he won he’s got also got a win at TPC South Wind where there is zoa grass love his chances this week love Brooks kepka 14 to1 bet 365 eight places each way on Brooks capka next up a guy that loves playing at this kind of environment loves playing in Indiana loves playing in the Illinois loves playing um I think he’s also got a win up in Wisconsin he’s definitely got a couple of wins in Ohio Bryson dambo I think he’s going to like Kentucky I think he’s going to like the mix of the zoa he’s going to love the golf course he’s going to love soft scoring conditions he can hit the ball far he can hit the ball fairly straight his ball striking numbers have been excellent on Liv played very very well at the Masters at Augusta National where a lot of us thought that Bryson struggled with uneven lies and the the like it was interesting there that Bryson really played well in that opening round when the course was soft and there was little wind around think the forast suits him I have taken two points each way 25 to1 with bet 365 eight places each way on Bryson D Shambo he’s won the 2016 daap Championship on the corn faery 2017 John Deere classic 2018 Memorial Tournament that’s of course of Jack Nicholas design 2023 live Green Brier and 2023 live Chicago those wins have been in Illinois twice oh Ohio twice and West Virginia all neighboring states next up 10 places each way available with bet Fred two places I’ve gotten two points each way 30 to One Max Homer a guy that has taken time to get used to the elite level at major championships but cracked it at the end of last year or July the last major 10th at the Open Championship low and behold 36 hole leader at the Masters he was in the top two or three going into the final round hang around for a third T3 finish Max Homer I think he’s going to love this course for me he’s far more of a um he’s far more of a bent grass positive or bent mixed with poana kind of player likes these kind of um this kind of rough I think he’s fine on the Zia I think he’s got a great chance he was in the top 10 last week for strokes gain te green around qua Hollow two top Eights on the bounce there at Quail Hollow and we know that he’s also a winner at Quail Hollow and if you look at that link going back to 2014 Rory maroy a four-time winner at qu Hollow we’ve also got in there Phil Mickelson great record at qu Hollow and Ricky Fowler who got his first ever PJ to a victory at Quail Hollow so love Homer two points each way 30 to1 10 places each way with bet Fred finally 80 to1 I took bet 365 eight places each way I should have double checked because bet Fred still have him at 80 to1 as I’m recording this 10 places each way sep strucker second at the open last year a top 20 at the at Augusta National playing some super super solid golf he’s got a very understated um record on Zo grass Fairways it has to be said uh second at TPC South Wind in 2023 he’s also finished sixth for 72 ho scoring at East Lake the last two years so 2022 and 2023 so gets on well with the zoa grass likes that uh a winner at the John Deere classic last year on Bentgrass Greens in Illinois so yeah likes the area playing some super golf uh he was seventh last year at the Oak Hill hosted PJ Championship now stuer won’t win this or won’t contend here with outright brute power off the T but what he’s very good at is overlength driving and very very straight at the moment that’s going to gain you a lot of Strokes off the two
