Nelly Korda has ‘the entire golf world’s attention’ | Golf Central | Golf Channel
https://www.youtube.com/golfchannel?sub_confirmation=1

[Music] golf Central on YouTube is brought to you by the new Chrome tour golf ball from Callaway now’s current win streak we’ve touched on it it’s a a record time with Nancy Lopez and Anica soram they’re all at five that’s the current LPGA Tour Mark how would you define the three different streaks well I think I think more similar to Nancy Lopez Nancy Lopez of course was just 21 years of age fresh-faced coming out of the University of Tulsa just lit the not just the golf world not even uh the entire Sports World she was on the cover of everything but at 21 years of age she had already won a couple times then when she got that five wins in a row going one of them was a major championship Nelly C is not the beginning of her career but close to it at 25 years of age when you look at anuka sornam she was at the peak in her prime sort of 33 34 because it was at the end of 2004 2005 uh it was arguably the best golf that’s ever been played uh on the LPGA Tour but I think in the same way that it was a harbinger of great things to come uh for Nancy Lopez who by the way almost ended up with 50 wins in her career and certainly a harbinger of more great things to come as we go back and take a look at Nancy Lopez what a streak this was you know it started at the greater Baltimore classic where she beat the great uh nuk cap Pony by three shots then she won the Coca colola the Golden Lights the LPGA championship for her first major by six over Amy Alcott and then she beat Jane balock by two here at the Bankers Trust five in a row in a year in which as a rookie on on the LPGA Tour she just did something nobody had ever seen and then of course we fast forward to anuka soran uh she had started this Streak by winning the mauno classic by nine at the end of 2004 then the ADT beat Kerr beat Ki Webb in another uh tournament the MasterCard classic she beat Lena Cho in a playoff at Safeway and then of course won the craft in the bisco which is now the Chron she won it by eight over Rosie Jones so she won by nine she won be peers and we go back to Nelly C of course LPGA drive on the S pack the Ford Championship then Leona Maguire and the match play and then of course winning the Chevron much like onuka ending the streak or the fifth I would say because we don’t know the streak may continue for a while with a major championship and of course with that traditional jump uh so uh tremendous you know she’s she’s she’s done something that only two other women in the history of the LPGA are doing but when you look at what she’s on the cusp of doing uh and it’s been a a marvelous year again not just for women’s sport but for all of sport because we’ve been treated to watching Caitlyn Clark do something unprecedented that absolutely captivated the World of Sport uh when she beat a record that had stood for 54 years Pete marovich had scored 3,685 points it was the alltime record for the most points scored uh male or female NCAA division 1 basketball of course she went on to score what 3,951 points and I think that’s part of what was so captivating about it is that she was doing something that nobody else had ever done uh but you you will know this she was also doing it in such a demonstrative way wasn’t she yeah I mean that she was a mix between Steph Curry and Larry Bird when it came to how she would extend the floor with her three-point shooting abilities from distance the average make during the NC tournament was around 26 feet which we just hadn’t seen in the women’s game and it’s I hadn’t really seen it in the men’s game until Steph Curry made it so popular about 10 years ago and her passing ability I mean you put in the total package and it was incredible to watch but it kind of begs the the question going forward because the Run Nelly has been on has been incredible and like you said it Caitlyn Clark became a sports story it wasn’t just a women’s basketball story and it’s been a nice pairing where we see the NCA women’s tournament right with the August Nation women’s Amer and it’s a celebration of all these college athletes yet it hasn’t quite translated with Nell’s current winning streak really capturing the audience of sports fans and why do you think that’s the case well I think with Kaylin Clark again uh it was that she was doing things that nobody had ever done uh and so the momentum began to build build I would say that Nelly has got the golf world’s attention uh and that the momentum is building and if she Carri carries on doing things because look she eclipsed Caitlyn Clark that I were talking about eclipsed a record that had stood for 54 years let’s just say Nelly goes on to win this week okay she would be the first to do something she would eclipse the record that she’s a sharer uh in having W five straight she would set a record uh but there’s a lot of different ways to dominate the sports world’s attention I would say to dominate to not only win consecutive events but also to win by wide margins when you start to look at uh LPGA players that have won by wide margins and I would say by five Strokes or more anuka did it 14 times you know we talked about her winning the craft nisco back in 2005 by eight well the very next event that she did win she won by 10 of course Leno choa retired early she won seven times by five Strokes or more Nancy Lopez of those 48 wins six times by five shots or more I think part of what made Tiger Wood so captivating is that he was analogous to Secretariat you know Belmont by 32 links Tiger Woods by 12 by 15 by 8 uh you know we’re pretty fickle about what makes us stop doing what we’re doing appointment television and to be absolutely stupified by awe to see somebody doing something that nobody else has ever done you know that’s the bar uh and I think winning five times in a row has got the entire golf’s World attention as it should but let’s just say she goes on to win I mean that is certainly somebody’s going to do that is going to win by wi margins they’re going to win in dramatic fashion so I think she’s got the entire golf world’s attention and it could be uh a transformative moment in all of women’s golf of course along the way the game’s been elevated by the greats of Patty Berg and bab sah harus and Mickey Wright but you know Nancy Lopez took it to another spot Joanne Corner took it to another spot Nancy Lopez was almost like a Caitlyn Clark type at that time the% you know wasn’t just a golf story it was a sports story but you can’t be somebody you’re not you know and and the lady you know Joanne carner was a walking party everywhere she went anuka was more stoic Hogan was stoic Lee Travino was a oneman comedy show uh you can’t be somebody you’re not but when you see when you see Nelly Corda going to the Met Gala right this isn’t just sports stuff this is celebrity stuff this is icon stuff it it puts her in that category with Tiger Woods Tiger Woods of course going to the Met Gala back in 2013 there is Nelly Cy you almost don’t even record because they’re in golf clothes right we’re used to see on the golf course and then civilians you know glammed up uh all of a sudden it’s like movie star stuff you know Tiger Woods looking movie star handsome there and so is Nelly Corda uh so that’s the kind of stuff that resonates with the the the the the celebrity world uh those outside of the Sports World those outside of the golf world so uh she’s certainly uh taking the game to another place and it’s great to see does she have a sense of obligation to do those type of events and really try and Propel this sport forward beyond what she does inside the ropes look as I just said I don’t think you can be somebody you’re not you know if you are by Nature uh very gregarious and outgoing of course as L trino was as Doug Sanders was but if you are by Nature more stoic as as Tiger Woods was but tiger was demonstrative in Victory I think to really heighten uh the interest of the world you don’t just have to win often you have to win big and you have to be demonstrative along the way uh more like a Joanne Corner uh or you know have a a million wat smile like Nancy Lopez was Jack was Jack demonstrative I don’t I don’t think so but you know Jack was so dominant and there was a sense when you were watching Jack that you were seeing something that you’d never seen before so even though Jack wasn’t I wouldn’t say he was stoic but I wouldn’t say it was demonstrative although he he he got there at certain times in his career but certainly early on you go back and watch him beat Arnold Palmer in Arnold’s backyard he shakes Arnold’s hand in in a I would say somewhat humble way you know he’s not air punching running around the green uh but I think there was a sense that you were watching something extraordinary

  1. Nelly Korda, don't worry about this old gatekeeper who are awkward and afraid to push you to the public. The coverage is scape and the Golf channel don't really care for LPGA

  2. That’s a little exaggerated and inflated to say the whole golf world as if every single golfer knows her even 😂 unless you’re a golf nerd , I don’t think it matters that much

  3. Go Nelly! You are reaching new levels in your game and elevating women's golf to new heights! Well done!

  4. Why hasn’t Nelly gotten more attention? Because she’s a robot with no charisma. That’s the difference between her and Clark.

  5. I would like to see nelly korda playing a tournament of PGA, and see if she can get a top 10, make the cut or whatever between men players. It would catch so many viewers and help also the PGA tour which is struggling bad with the LIV

  6. when you talk about basketball and 3 pt distance, you did not mention PISTOL PETE MARAVICH, he was passing and shooting from way out back in the late 60s & early 70s at LSU and then in the pros

  7. With what Nelly has accomplished in 2024', I would expect to see her on the cover of Golf Magazine, Golf Digest, or at least Sports Illustrated, but she has got none of that. The Golf world basically just ignores the LPGA. I would like to see one of the Sports Networks carry the LPGA events every week. I have no interest in The Valspar, or The Zurich Classic, or the Byron Nelson.

  8. Chamblee should put more work into his commentating performance than he does his twitte tweets, really hard to listen to this man, why NBC is making him lead analyst is beyond me 😂 dude takes everything up the ass

  9. What an honor it is to watch Nelly achieve.
That being said, Brandel Chamblee is a cancer to the game of golf.
Guy is cashing checks from the Chinese owned Golf Channel while disparaging other pro golfers and their choices.

  10. You want to know why Nelly isn't getting the coverage ore the accolades that Cailtin Clark has/is? Simple, the coverage is some of the worst on TV. Coverage of men's golf is bad enough, but the coverage of women's golf looks like it's some nowhere high school media club with cell phones from 10 years ago. It's embarrassing! I feel so bad for the women's game to have such horrible coverage in this day and age.
