too many golfers at the start of the downswing get this Trail arm their right arm stuck and this causes us to do too many reactions we’ll have the tendency of extending upwards to try and give ourselves the time to get this club head to release through the hands get a little bit stuck this right knee pops out in front of us sometimes and then that leads to all sorts of outcomes affecting the strike but also the accuracy on your golf shot seeing that two-way Miss in the game so if you’re someone who feels like at the moment that you’re really struggling with that downswing phase struggling to get this fluent effortless downswing and feel like those arms are getting a little bit too close a little bit too stuck in this movement I’d highly recommend sticking around to the very end of the video for those of you who are new to the channel welcome my name is Harry PJ professional transforming golfers worldwide on Skillet so feel free to give me a follow on there if you’re looking for more personalized coaching to help improve your game further and in today’s video we’re going to be talking about a a a simple move effective move that you doing the down swing to help you develop more room for this Trail arm of yours to set the club in the right position and then give yourself enough room then to make solid Conta with that golf ball improving the accuracy for you I’ve been working on this with a few of my students recently I’ve noticed massive benefits to their games so highly recommend taking these tips and drills on board in your own game so in order to be able to change this right arm position help us create more room in that down we’ve got to understand why this right arm gets a bit stuck in that down swing in the first place and this is all to do with the way we set this right arm in the down swing I see so many golfers they’ll make the way up to the top of the swings and then they’ll have the tendency of pushing the hands out to try and force the club downwards towards the golf ball and a lot of golfers see that golf ball there and they think right I really need to hit the golf ball and add this tension in that down swing move and you can see as soon as I make this move happen here this right elbow of our starts to flare outwards and it also causes me to do this action here I just tend to lift upwards and then as I fire the hips imagine you’re trying to fire the hips from there now the right arm gets stuck so the key to this to be able to help us get this right arm slotting in the correct position for that down swing we’ve got to be able to do two things one is making sure that elbow is set more on this plane here as opposed to pushing the elbow outwards we want the elbow to be more inwards and also we’ve got to be looking at a way that we can get this elbow facing the body so as we make a way up to the top of the swing I want you just to take the club and place it in the middle of your hands like this here and I want you to use your Trail arm only for this you’re going to be making sure the but end of the club is going to point towards the Target and you’re going to set up just like this here and place your left hand wherever is needed where it’s comfortable your lead hand and as we get this turn up to the top of the Swit okay we should set the club more relatively in this position here where the button in the club is pointing pretty much so to that camera angle there and that first initial move to drag the club down with pushing the hands away Causes That Elbow to of course point away from the body so in order for us to get this elbow to point towards the body we’ve got to then encourage this bus end the club there to point back at the golf ball over the golf ball as we make a way into the down swing so all I’m doing here back and forth and you can hold on to the club using your lead hand just placing it on the button of the club like this here just to help you if it feels a little bit too heavy for you we’re going to turn up to the top I like to think right I’m getting my back to Target and then from there I’m getting that button in the club to point at the golf ball as I make my way into the down swing you can see here I’m not really trying to fire this lower body in the down swing just yet all I’m doing here is I’m just Ensure ening that I’m getting that club to work more on this shallower motion here encouraging that feeling of the right arm and the elbow staying more towards the body pointing more towards the body as opposed to throwing the club away as opposed to throwing it away this way we’re pushing downwards like so and just feeling this flexion up to the top from the right arm and then we’re extending on the way through I’m not forcing this extension though I’m just swinging up to the top and then getting that butt end the club to point at the golf ball so you can see here straight away that helps me get this elbow facing more towards the body but also keeps the elbow pointing more out in front of the body instead of getting stuck behind the body as I mentioned at the start of the video but building on to this what happens then when we start to try and make full swings doing this for a lots of golfers they’ll try and fire those hips as soon as they start that down and even if we get this tray alarm set more this way if I start the hips that try alarm has got a lot of catching up to do so we’ve got to give the trail arm enough time to be able to allow it to set in that position that we’ve just been working on getting that butt in the club to point towards the golf ball now just before we move on to this next step it’s really important that you understand develop an understanding of what that movement there feels like to you I’ll give you an example so for me they’re at feels like I’m just getting to the top of the Swing I’m flexing my trail arm to the top of the Swing getting that butt in the club to point of the camera then all I’m thinking about there is just bringing my arm out in front of me to get that button the club to point the golf ball as I’m looking down and the field perspective for me is all in this right arm I can feel this flexion in the right arm and I can almost feel this maintained part here I’m maintaining this flexion in that down swing so for you it could be completely different but just work on this close your eyes develop that understanding of what it feels like to you and then we can move on to this next bit so to give ourselves the the time needed to get this Trail arm set in that position I want you to take both hands onto the club I want you just to stall the body as we make a way into the back swing and I just want you to feel like you’re pressing into the ground a little bit and when I say pressing into the ground it’s not necess neily a massive squat into the ground like this we’re just feeling like we’re going to dip in Heights not from the upper body by the lower body squatting the touch and as we get this squatting move here you can see if I just relax my arms and allow this tray alarm again if I just keep that butt in the club there and just get it to point the golf ball and I just squat down don’t do any body turn whatsoever look what happens it’s easier for me to get that slot easier for me to get this shallower effortless downswing that we’re all looking for because as soon as I get to here and I push the club out I throw the club away and I turn this left hip here you can see there it’s no good the casting motion takes place and that’s then we suffer with the other outcome so we’ve got to be making sure that when we get to this downswing move we are encouraging this slight little press into the ground and what it’s feeling like to me is I’m pressing into both feet I’m just keeping the pressure in both feet as I’m doing this as opposed to adding pressure in one side of the other and then from this point here we’re pushing back upwards to hit that golf ball and as we push back upwards you should be able to feel the club throwing down towards the golf ball as opposed to throwing away so when we get to the top it’s here for one obviously feeling that button the club pointing at the camera from here we’re squatting down for two allowing now just that right arm to slot in that position there and then we’re pushing back upwards and allowing that club to throw down to the golf bone a good example of this is if we were to throw a golf ball the body and arms work actually in opposite directions very similar to what the golf swing does so as I turn my body to go this way towards the wall here my hand and arm work the opposite to throw it towards the target so the same thing applies in the golf swing as I’m pushing back up from the ground just as I’ve got this squat Motion in here as I’m pushing back up from the ground the club’s working in the opposite direction my body’s working back upwards as the club is traveling down towards the ball so it’s really important that when we make full swings doing this we let it happen letting it happen is so important so up to the top feeling that squat allowing that butt in the club to point the golf ball getting that trail elbow to sink in front of the body then from there we’re throwing the club as we push back up from the ground for me as I’m doing this all in one motion while in stages and then building this up into one motion it’s almost like I’m slotting that trail arm into position as I’m squatting down so it almost feels like I’ve got like a towel here that I need to catch a towel appears asum as I begin that down thing I’ve got to catch the towel as I get this little dip in height as I get this little squatting motion here then from there I can throw the club and push upwards from the ground to help us obviously generate more speed more power but also imagine that move there if we’re squatting down here setting the club on this motion here it’s going to be so much easier just to push back up and fire that club towards the golf ball so just before I hit a shot doing this I’d just like to give a quick shout out to GX golf the sponsorships to the channel GX golf provide high quality golf clubs for a fraction of the price in comparison to the rest on the market so if you’re sick and tired of playing a couple of rounds of golf of a new golf glove and it rips i’ highly recommend checking out GX golf using the discount code below Harry 10 to save yourself 10% off on those golf gloves so hitting a shot just to finish just trying to encourage this feeling to take place in one motion how we build this up is just simply nice and smooth working it up to the top feeling this squat as I catch that towel with my trail arm keeping that elbow pointing towards the body and then from there I am pushing back up and allowing my arms to throw down towards the golf ball and then we can build this up into one motion just like this here so let’s see what we can do first shot that was a nice hit a little bit thinned actually but it was a nice little fade so for me there I’d encourag a little bit more of a squat and as I’m pushing back upward I really need to just let my arms flow and let them throw the club towards that golf born because I just went a little bit oh no I don’t want this to happen I don’t want to hit the ground and that’s why I’ve thinned it ever so slightly so the key that I would take away from this is trusting it because at first when you dip in height it’s going to feel very strange but as you get used to it and see those Center strikes feel that motion taking place it’s going to feel much easier for you to get that simple downswing that you want in your golf game so I’d highly recommend subscribing to the channel if you’ve enjoyed en this video and come this far taking these tips and drills on board in your own game feel free to check out this video over here which will talk you more about the down swing and also I’m going to be producing my own online course that’s going to be out very very soon to give you everything you need to master the downswing in your golf game the downswing Dynamics which is coming out in the next couple of weeks so stay tuned for that to come as well thanks for watching and we’ll see you in the very next video
