As we get older, one of the biggest mistakes we make in our golf swing is becoming too static, especially with our feet. We tend to focus too much on what our hands and arms are doing, forgetting about the importance of engaging our body – particularly our feet, knees, and legs. This static positioning causes restriction, bad shots, and a loss of power.
However, when you awaken your feet and start moving naturally, you can and will hit the ball further, easier, and better. Today, I’m going to show you how. All I ask is for a little commitment from you – be open-minded and give this a try. It might feel exaggerated at first, but I believe it will awaken your body and mind to how a swing should feel more athletic, helping you unleash the athlete within without force or strain.

one of the biggest mistakes especially
as we get a little bit older is becoming
too static in our goal swing and it
really stems from being too static with
our feet we get too focused on what the
hands and arms are doing and forget what
we need the body to do the feet and the
knees and the legs being static causes
restriction bad shots loss of power but
when you awaken the feet when you just
start moving naturally you can and will
hit it further easier better I’m going
to show you how today I want a little
commitment from you I want you to be
open-minded and to give this a try it’s
something that’s going to exaggerate but
it’s going to I believe awaken your body
and your mind to how a swing should feel
more athletic helping you unleash the
athlete within without Force without
strain and the reason we need to do this
is because more and more just think
about people you play golf with they
more often than not you’ll see swings
where the hands are the focus either
looking at what the hands are doing all
the time looking at the hands here very
much upper body trying to generate as
much speed as possible with the upper
body getting lazy with the lower body
but even if you have certain ailments
knee restrictions or repairs lack of
mobility in certain ways you need to
know this you do not need to be super
flexible
super mobile to have a very good goal
swing the only reason it feels
restricted is because you’re not moving
how you need to move and when you move
better you swing without manipulation
you swing with freedom and it just feels
so much easier so then you can just play
golf and what happens when you do those
restrictive Swings with the lower body
and forget what you would do naturally
in other sports you know if I was to to
throw this if I was to kick something if
I was to kick this ball I wouldn’t be
like like like that I would allow
everything to move I would move there
would be flow and movement and we seem
to think because the ball’s static
because we’re static and we’re having to
generate the power that we have to you
know stay static as well cuz we’re so
scared about moving or and we’re trying
to be precise and we end up doing
nothing really but as I said at the
beginning it’s going to unlock freedom
and power in your go swing and it’s all
in the feet that’s what we’re looking at
because we can’t really move much of the
body to create wind up to create that
rotation if we’re staying static with
the feet if we’re so consumed with
keeping the knees still keeping the hips
still it’s very difficult to produce
anything seeing as we’re talking about
the feet in this lesson I thought it
would be a good time to let you in on a
little secret of mine I have been using

game now let’s go on with the lesson so
here’s what we’re going to do you’re
going to even without a club right now I
going to just allow your arms to feel
gentle and relaxed up here you’re going
to take your golf posture and I want you
to make as much of of a sort of rotation
as a turn as you can think golf swing
but let’s just try and make a big of a
turn if you will as you can okay now
that’s when I start to feel a bit
restricted but what happens if I allow
my leg to raise up okay if I allow my
leg to raise up how much more rotation
and length can I get in my swing for
that increased range of motion that
might look a bit like Bubba Watson but
it works now the other thing you can do
on the down swing if we have restriction
on the downswing and we let that o upper
body overtake we’re stuck again but if I
let rotation and freedom of movement and
use my feet use the ground to generate
that power everything sort of gets
propelled forwards it’s very difficult
to move the feet and not move the body
and the arms and the hands and the club
head so I’m trying to reverse engineer
this a little bit for you so you can
awaken it so instead of thinking about
the go swing being the club head and the
hands for now I want you to think about
everything happening from your tootsies
so you’re going to make a movement here
you’re going to hold the club as if
you’re going to toss a bag of sand or
whatever right so we’re staying nice and
balance I’ve got the club supported here
and it’s like I’m going to toss it but I
feel restriction here so now I need to
not feel restricted I’m going to
overemphasize raising the feet here okay
and then I’m going to plant that that
foot back down and allow that foot to
come up it’s all
happening in my feet my knees my
hips and the chain goes all the way up
that’s a sensation so the more you
rehearse that I want you to just forget
about trying to hit certain positions
even if it feels ridiculous even if it
looks a bit ridiculous I want you
to let things go a little bit more
create some freedom the other benefit of
this is it’s really going to benefit
those of you who freeze over the ball
too much who have too many swing
thoughts I want you to start thinking
athletically dynamically no matter how
old you are no matter what ailments you
have use your feet use your lower body
and the chain will start to open up and
swing with much more ease and effortless
power I also wanted to do a quick

that fluid motion okay it’s all about
freeing yourself up and you’ll realize

of Loosey Goosey or whatever you want to
call it you’ll start to generate a bit
more power and you will repeat your
action you’re more than skilled enough
you have the natural abilities you have
the hand ey coordination you’re human I
mean maybe you’re a k9 but you’re human
and you can do this with not as you know
not trying to force the control as much
as you have been so let it feel more
natural athletic and just see what
happens take it to the extreme then we
can start dialing it back there we have
it and I did touch on the aspect of not
freezing over the ball this lesson here
is going to be perfect for that cuz it
is about momentum and using momentum and
not staying static by doing that you’re
going to be more reactive and a better
golfer because of it thanks for watching

Excellent points Alex on not being static and restrictive in the golf swing! I agree with you that if you don't have movement in your feet and legs, the lower body will not react. As you say, "the lower body will move with the feet." I also agree with you when you say that lifting the left heal on the back swing will give you a deeper turn with the right side.
