information let me tell
you welcome to
texags I need to talk a little sports
with you a David nun here with texags

Olan yanan we will develop men we will
graduate players and we will win
championships on the field the best way
for us to win is to do it
together do you realize everybody knows
who you are right now I think we’re
coming into this year with a new
confidence schools are like we’re
freaking Texas A&M man
like that’s about is pretty a throw
catch combo as there is I saw the safety
rooll the slot fade I knew where I
needed to put the ball you had no other
option but one hand at that point yeah
man 50/50 bar I got to come down
with you know if I’m bet on anybody at
[Music]
theages all right it’s going to be a
football football football hour all
right is that okay with the OB can we do
football for the entire hour here on
texag radio um yeah I mean
brager’s not going to be around you no
we’re going to we’re going to do look
we’re going to do baseball in the 9:00
hour we’ve got Jim schl are you familiar
with his work I am yeah we’re gonna have
him we’re gonna have Megan go uh Gibson
Lofton on the program you familiar with
her work I’m not oh she was a pitcher

the show okay uh are you familiar with
the fans that do the show yes okay
they’re going to be on the show later so
we we got at you know his game at yeah
Aaron Torres Aon Torres yeah yeah so
we’re gonna have so we’ve got everything
covered but in the go hour which is also
presented by the warehouse the warehouse
CC Creations right during this hour I
want to do football heavy all right I’m
always up for football we got Stephen
McGee coming on the program he’s gonna
talk football he is right so that’s what
we’re goingon to do here all right let’s
do it let’s do it uh it is texag Radio
we’re presented by David Gardner
Jewelers we are here in the r Insurance
studio so uh let’s let’s start things
off OB because yesterday our uh football
leader Mike Elco took the podium what is
this week three of spring yeah I know
they got it ends a week from what
Saturday yep and um excuse me one of the
things that I took away and I think when
I when I say this out loud people may
take it as a as a fear it’s not a fear
but he said we are a long way from the
football product we want to be which by
the way that’s how it should be it’s
Spring right um but we’re not
disappointed it’s the reality of a new
system and a new scheme yes yes yes they
are not a finished product they are
nowhere near a finished product they
don’t even have all their guys yet they
are learning this is the learning phase
yeah
um with all the things you just said
about it you know new coach new system
new schemes just new way of doing things
you’ve had what nine
practices of of course you wouldn’t be
where you need to be you’re not going to
be where you need to be on August 1st or
whenever they open August camp now what
you want to do
is familiarize get somebody with a basic
understanding and then you know they
work throughout the next three
months um getting themselves even more
understanding yep and then come August
you know then you start really ramping
up and getting ready for that uh opener
on August
31st uh with
better knowledge of of everything you’re
trying to do what I really appreciate
about Coach ELO so far
is I don’t I don’t I have a BS meter I
don’t feel BS when he talks it’s like
hey this is where we are this is where
we’re going by the way Bryce Anderson is
a safety not a nickel oh I love that
right like he’s just telling you how it
is we we recruited him as a safety he’s
not a nickel right even though he had
been playing a lot of nickel before I
like that he he mentions people’s names
when asking about the transfers not
numbers um not numbers he talks about
the truth about Connor he’s he’s earned
that spot but he’s got to earn it every
day and he knows come Notre Dame he’s
got to earn that spot right um he talked
about what he loves about Jaylen
Henderson where he has some deficiencies
he talked about Marcel Reed about the
Peaks and valleys for both of those guys
he talked about Ruben Owens ability
right he it’s very like this is what it
is I loved what he said about Ruben
Owens by the way I did too like I know
he we know he can do the thir and 35
yard run but let’s become an SEC back
and understand that you know what
separates you is can you get that four
and five yards
consistently look I don’t like I think
Alabama plays this weekend their spring
game I think is on Saturday Alabama’s
probably not a finished product either
right no no team should be a finished
product especially a new regime with as
much turnover as this team has had I I
think this team should aspire to be a
minimum oh my that’s the loudest phone
ever um should aspire to be a 9 win team
at the very least every year that should
be your low
Year yes yes I I recognize there going
to be eight and fours there may be a
seven and five in there that I’m going
to hate because we haven’t as a as a
program they have not proven the
consistency right but they are not as of
today a nine- win team and that’s okay
well um
nobody you’re right look you’re not as
good on August
31st as you should be on on October 31st
right so um I don’t know I I think I
think Aggies are a pretty knowledgeable
by and large uh fan base so I would I
would suspect that nobody got too uh out
of sorts when when he said that you know
or when you read that because you said
well you know of course understand that
there’s a process of building a team
well let’s hear from him all right let’s
my goodness why is my computer going
crazy I thought I pressed mute twice
let’s hear from coach Elco and uh he
talked his opening statement basically
setting the tone for where they are as a
team right now uh from our standpoint as
a football program I think um you know
nine days in I I would just Define us as
a work in progress which is to be
expected you know it’s it’s a lot of new
stuff it’s a lot of new scheme
situations you every time our kids are
going out on the field they’re doing
something for the first time and I think
that’s always a challenge and that’s
what makes the first spring so
challenging very happy with our guys in
terms of their mindset how hard they’re
working the things that they’re doing to
try to get this thing going in the right
direction uh I think we’ve managed to
stay relatively healthy which is huge
and getting a lot of guys out there and
getting a lot of reps and a lot of work
uh you know they know this cuz I tell
them it every day you know we’re a long
way from the football product we need to
be to get where we want to go this
season but again I think that’s not to
say that we’re disappointed I just think
it’s the reality of new system new
scheme new everything and so we got a
lot of work to do they know that uh
they’re continuing to come in and do
those things every day yeah um it’s just
the truth that’s it’s it’s not sugar
coating it’s not like we’ve got the best
quarterback of all time and he’s going
to be an NFL starter it’s not we’re a 12
win team it’s not we you know a five-
win team it is this is where we are
today and we know we got a
journey what I like is he says you know
uh we’re not where we want to be and we
our guys are doing the things that they
have to do to get where we want to go
this season right not where we want to
go eventually where we want to go this
season
and uh I think he uh wants uh obviously
even more than that N9 wins that you
were talking about
so you know I look at this this roster
and you know you could pick it apart and
there could be some things that you say
well maybe they need more speed at
receiver or more proven speed at
receiver and there isn’t hasn’t yet been
a a running back over the LA over last
year and that emerged say hey you’re the
true number one and all those things and
hey there’s still some questions at
corner but when I look I still see a a a
talented roster and um I’m still
cautiously optimistic I wish I could
remove the cautiously part but you’re
not until you see it yeah but I I I keep
looking at I
said with with a better updated scheme
and a uh some of this the dysfunction
from this team that’s been removed and a
better quote culture everybody uses that
word
I’m still saying a team that won seven
games and was in position to win all
those other games you you mentioned Greg
maroy what he said yesterday and I agree
with that wholeheartedly um I hope
everybody’s dismissing a&n but because I
still think that when I break it down I
keep thinking well yeah it has its
flaws but it still looks like a good
team to me it does so I think it was
Billy on Friday or maybe it was Monday
of this week where he talked about like
but where are they proven right where
let’s go through some spots where
they’re proven like you know what you’re
going to get M uh on the offense at
least where do you know what you’re
going to
get yeah um if Conor’s healthy and
that’s it start with that and he say has
five months to get ready I think you I
feel like I got a good quarterback and
all start starts there are you proven on
the offensive line no are you proven at
running
back no well I mean
you’ve got guy you don’t have a a lead
back now you’ve got guys who are capable
when you line up against well you’re not
lining up against Alabama but uh you
line up against Florida you have the
advantage in most positions when you
line up against Texas where do they have
the where does A&M have the advantage
well I have to admit I I haven’t really
studied studied Texas
um off the top of my head though I uh
from what I remember Texas is rebuilding
a defense I think they’re going to have
a pretty good offensive line um they
brought in some receivers
but the guys are they as good as the
guys they lost are you proven it wide
receiver at Texas no at
A&M uh no are you proven at tight
end yes uh I’ve I saw what it it once
again we go back to if he’s healthy I I
saw what Donovan greed did and uh a
freshman as a as a true freshman he he’s
a now does he need to get better as a
blocker probably but as a receiver I
have no no worries about Donovan Green
at tight end and I’ll you know we can do
defense at a different time are you
proven at special teams no yeah well you
know what right now I’ll take unproven
over we over the knowledge of what they
were right I’ll take I’ll take what’s
behind door number two because I know
number one sucked right so in my
opinion you’re not proven at those
positions in several positions
offensively and that’s okay because you
just got to go out and do it yeah I
guess my take on all that is yeah I
understand there’s a lot of a lot of
areas where you’re improving but I and I
hope I’m not just telling myself this I
think a lot of people would agree with
this but I don’t think it’s a individual
Talent issue I thought it was a colossal
failure in coaching across the board and
and that’s why I’m thinking with new
coaches with you know removing some of
the dysfunction and some of the
entitlement and some of the um just crap
that was going on that we’ve heard about
more and more we always suspect and then
we heard more that that’s why I’m I feel
like they’re going to be better
significantly better agree um and not
only practice but scrimage all that will
lead to that and that leads to our next
bite U they did have their first
scrimmage on Tuesday so here’s coach
Elco on that scrimmage we were able to
have our first scrimmage yesterday which
is always great it’s always great to get
into the stadium I think that’s always
new no matter how many times our kids
get an opportunity to play here at Texas
A&M or how many years they’ve been here
going into Kyle Field is still something
right and learning how to do that and
learning how to function at a really
high level in that setting is still
something we need a lot of work at and
so you know we got about 121 plays in
yesterday it was a good go uh we were
able to get a lot of good work in and um
you know that’s kind of where we’re are
and so we got about a week and a half
left to finish really really strong get
a very solid base and Foundation of
where we want to be heading into the
summer and then you know really continue
to work and strive to get this program
and this team where we needed to be and
so it’s kind of where we’re
at all
good all you know and you know he didn’t
give a breakdown of who did what in the
scrimmage um told us the kid from Fresno
State didn’t play because it has a sore
shoulder but it’s not going to keep him
out but
um I don’t know if he feels like they’re
on schedule right to where he what he
wants to see at this time but um he
doesn’t strike me as a guy who’s like
like he said too worried about it well
and I asked him about like do you have
certain like bench marks you need to see
like at this point he’s like no we just
got to go to work like like I don’t
believe in benchmarks like you evolve
it’s a day-to-day thing you where your
deficiencies are you fix those and you
keep you know working towards a point
there’s no like all right I need my team
to be here for us to be a 10 this is
what a 10- win team looks like we need
to be at this level today he’s like no
those benchmarks aren’t necessarily
there you know he might yeah but what
I’m saying is he might like and I don’t
know he didn’t say any of this and he
doesn’t talk to me off you know off the
Record so uh I’m just speculating here
he may have watched that and thought you
know we’re just not very good right now
yep and then he said but of
course everybody’s trying to pick
everything up right um but you can you
know you
can go from struggling to sometimes just
a light comes on let’s make a basketball
analogy and let’s like Manny oasy yep in
in the cas in the span
of probably less than a month he went
from a guy who was just a just a guy out
there to a a force who was you know
scoring double figures every game for
like five or something happened with him
yep and and I don’t want to say a lot
came on but you know it’s he emerged and
you will have guys that’ll emerge you
will have guys that’ll emerge just go
ahead I was going to say and just
because they haven’t emerged yet is not
you know nine
nine uh practices in the spring is is
not any reason for concern you’re
exactly right this is Coffee Talk
presented by texags coffee beat the hell
out of the mornings by going to
texags.com
Coffee uh to get your texax coffee all
right let’s do this um let’s open up the
phone lines if you want to talk a little
football we still got some more sound to
get into
schedule wise based on what you’ve heard
from coach Elco um and and we’re going
to talk a little bit more because we got
some transfer portal stuff to get into
that he he spoke about yesterday we’ll
talk about Connor and where Connor is I
know we briefly touched on it but we’ll
hear from coach Elco on that all right
let’s go around the room and say hi to
the people we go behind the glass we say
hi to Nick Savage Nick good morning
buddy howdy good morning y’all what’s up
well first of all happy ring Day to all
the agies who are getting there
technically it started yesterday but
Thursday and Friday are the big days and
I believe Jackson moss and Matthew
Dawson are the Aggies here getting their
rings so congrats to them also happy uh
start of the Masters week on uh today
they they’re they’re starting delayed
today at 1030 they tea off but um
unfortunately no agies competing in the
Masters this year uh but some notable
tea times for you Tiger Woods teeing off
at 254 Scotty sheffler at 12 he’s a
world number one and uh defending champ
John ROM who played with Sam Bennett
last year in that final round he tees
off at noon uh here so excited to watch
that and what a great Sports weekend it
is going to be with you know the master
Vandy A&M the premier Series in college
baseball here in College Station uh you
know got Aggie softball taking on Bama
that’s in Tuscaloosa but just a lot to
look forward to how about me and my my
master swag what do you think about this
one yeah I’m jealous I I I told you that
you wore it on the perfect day but you
know if I was playing in the Masters
that’s exactly what I’d Rock Mr country
music golf guy that’s who I am SL Old
Sarge
yeah you can call me old starge I’m like
OG old starge like it yeah sure you wear
it um is that is that A&M or is it yeah
it’s A&M yeah yeah oh yeah see Old Sarge
yeah yeah he’s a good guy yeah it’s nice
I’m a big fan of Old Sarge yeah why not
be yeah he looks a little bit like he’s
trimmed down a little bit well I got him
on a plan okay his macronutrients are on
point all right good all right uh let’s
go to the angry elephant news and social
Center agies gather at the angry
elephant k what’s up good morning how
are we doing Caitlin Tor I should say I
should should give you your last name
but we’re yeah as OPP Olan it’s ol

this out there just I’m very excited
today because
tonight she’s laughing she thinks I’m
going to tell a joke no tonight you’re
definitely telling a joke no I get to
see my son for the first time in three
months he’s coming home yeah he’s coming
home for for the weekend all right
that’s really ex actually just spend
most of the weekend in Austin his frat
can’t believe I got a son in a frat is
having a a formal yeah and it’s an
Austin so of course he’s stopping over
so we get to see our son that’s great
had s him in three months that’s
fantastic happy for you bud kayin yeah
just really quick if we look at Texas
A&M Sports at the moment Men’s Track and
Field and women’s track and field are
both ranked number one we’ve got
baseball at number three softball at
number 12 men’s tennis at number eight
and women’s tennis at number 11 so and
you know who’s number four um who has a
number four seed The Equestrian
Team so but that’s where it’s supposed
to be at A&M everybody should be good
everybody will be good
everybody we we’ll even be better for it
we our show has a lot more personality
when our teams are good that’s a fact
that’s a fact unless we’re really you
know upset and don’t aren’t people nicer
to you when A&M sports are doing really
well uh
I don’t know people are always pretty
nice yes they’re pretty nice but they’re
nicer I
guess I’ve never had a problem with when
A&M wins in football there’s less
traffic that’s how I feel about it when
I go to work okay right the coffee is
always hot yeah you know the food comes
quick yeah the the waiter and waitress
are always polite like oh is that is
that food cooked to your like yes like
that’s how it is when they win when they
don’t win take it no it’s not they’re
still nice p take
it no tap’s a good dude all the time
yeah anyway back to to we we hijacked
that I apologize all good um in other
news two of our agie women’s basketball
Stars declared for the WNBA draft this
week sophomore janah Barker and she’s
just in the portal right um oh yeah
declared for the transfer portal you’re
right um and then India Rogers did
declare for the draft so those will be
two that we will definitely Miss
hopefully Miss Barker says you know what
I’m coming
back and if she doesn’t I have total
confidence in Joanie Taylor to go out
there and bring some some really good
players in yeah agreed also your your
Equestrian Team Obie um will be
competing in the college equestrian
Association National Championship um
that’s going to be April 18th through
the 20th they’ll face number
five Georgia in the quarterfinal round
and this will be our third meeting with
Georgia this year with a split series
with them so
far all right Kaylin great stuff thank
you very very much let’s do this we’ll
hit a break we’re a little bit past time
we’ll come back with some more football
football football here on a Thursday
morning in April all right uh let’s talk
about sponsorship and vendor
opportunities with the Association of

e
all right we’re back here on texx radio
we are presented by David Gardner
Jewelers we are here in the Ral
Insurance Studio it is the go hour
presented by the warehouse at CC
Creations let’s talk about the
quarterback position um okay I think we
are
all
like we are so happy with Conor wigman
even though he’s only played in how many
games eight games eight games eight
starts eight starts because we’ve seen
what he can do in a mign offense and
make it look pretty nice right mhm with
no offensive line when he’s out there
and when I say no offensive line the
scheme not being where I think it needed
to be and the development not being
where I it needed the be but this we can
agree as a poor poorly coached offensive
line 100% before but we saw what the
offense looked like under the prior
quarterbacks under that same system in
the last two three years okay Haynes
Zack Max moments that were really good
but not sustainable success Connor was
the most sustained success at a high
level through only eight starts but
pretty much other than the Auburn game
and that was only a half and they again
they moved the ball right and there was
another game his freshman year that was
Auburn was it Auburn also okay so couple
times against Au that was the game you
know moose didn’t play course anas was
hurt and I think a chain was out so even
though we haven’t seen him for 12 starts
what we have seen over two years we’re
like this guy’s the truth because he did
that with that if they figure out some
not a Pythagorean steum offense that is
at least digestible by the quarterback
right if they can block a little bit
these numbers will look even better but
competition at every position is the
motto there across the street right like
you’ve got to earn it every day you you
do and uh the fact of the matter
is um I thought A&M got more out of
Jaylen Henderson than could have ever
asked for last year I thought he he he
did a really nice job and then when
Marcel Reed came in I’m like whoa whoa
whoa what have we got here right against
Oklahoma State so
um I think quarterback is a is a pretty
strong position for aen but let’s let’s
not kid ourselves if uh if Conor’s
healthy Conor’s your guy and I look at
what what was was the kid’s name he’s
nice quarterback Riley Nelson M what he
did at Duke Riley Leonard Leonard
Leonard who’s Riley Nelson he’s uh
friends with Willie Nelson yeah cousin
Charles Nelson Riley I don’t know but uh
uh Riley Leonard did did a nice job as
the uh quarterback at Duke uh I’m sure
the scheme is a little different because
it wasn’t Colin Klein but um it just but
it was under
Elco and uh I I I don’t want to ever
sound like
I’m I’m disrespecting a guy that you
know I haven’t really followed that much
but I just believe that and maybe
erroneously but I believe a healthy
Conor wigman is better is a better
quarterback than Riley lonard that’s not
to put down Riley ly right no 100% agree
with it let’s hear from uh coach Elco
yesterday breaking down not only where
things are with Conor wigman but the
entire quarterback group here’s uh coach
Elco yesterday just because you go into
spring as the number one that doesn’t
really mean anything other than you’re
number one going into spring um and so
Connor had earned that right we felt
like from how he had performed but like
every kid in our program competition is
there and so Conor knows there’s a level
of of play that he needs to reach in
order to to continue to be number one
and be number one when we play Notre
Dame um you I think I think both of our
young guys bring or I guess they’re not
young both of our other two guys guys
bring something different to the table I
think Jaylen Henderson is is getting a
little bit more more and more
comfortable functioning within the
system you know he’s obviously extremely
athletic uh he does have the ability to
throw the football uh well I I think
just seeing the game and kind of getting
the game to slow down for him a little
bit so it can be a little bit more
consistent the way he delivers the
football I think would help and then you
know Marcel Reed is a young kid and you
kind of saw it in the bowl game I think
he has really really high potential uh
and it’s very similar though it’s it’s
can we get it to be out there every
single play and um you know a little
less Peaks and valleys and a little bit
more consistent execution and operation
is kind of what we need from him Connor
has earned the right to be the starter
today but there’s a long way before now
in August 31st yet we all expect Conor
wigman to be the starter when we get to
Notre Dame you know barring any
unforeseen
circumstances I
do again it you know you can’t look at
his numbers and not think that right uh
I thought he was on his way to having a
huge year last year before he got hurt
uh now you can say
well he played New Mexico and Miami L
ULM and Miami but I mean I thought he
played well against Miami especially
considering the
circumstances um and they were blitzing
and he was getting hit and he did not
get sacked in that game and he didn’t
you know now he threw two interceptions
but I pointed out one of them was about
to be like 15 yard gain
and an I slipped so he threw it to the
right guy and he made a good throw yep
but the guy fell down and then the other
time a fourth down he’s under pressure I
mean he had to he had to throw it up
just to see otherwi if he takes the sack
what’s over right there’s at least a
chance when he throw it up in the air so
all right we’ll uh we’ll continue down
this track with stepen McGee when we

all right we are back here on Tex a
radio we’re presented by David gur
jewers we’re here in the r Insurance
Studio it’s It’s the Go hour you know
that right it is yeah presented by the
warehouse of CC Creations let’s go to
the hotline I believe we are joined by
stepen McGee from Paran Paragon
financial and of course R qb1 Stephen
good morning buddy good morning
gentlemen what’s up Master’s week yeah I
know y’all are
excited I’m excited OB um you I’m not
really big into golf but I MA the
Masters is a big enough deal that I’ll
at least pay attention to see who’s
winning yeah yeah no doubt I was in a
master huh who’s y’all picks for winning
this week
I couldn’t I couldn’t tell you I don’t I
don’t know the goer thing Sheffer oh
Sheffer Sheffer I’m going with
Sheffer how can you go wrong there I
love it a’t that the guy from uh Cameron
young the guy from American Pie Shefler
Stiffler oh Stiffler say hi Stiffler
different guy maybe I’m going Hogan
that’s who you
got can John Ram do it
again uh look I I don’t know man I
it’s hard it’s hard to repeat there and
uh so I’m I’m gonna say no okay all
right hey U I’m a big shepher fan too I
like him I do like him let’s let’s start
off football-wise with Connor yesterday
and we knew this was going to be the
case Mike Elko said that he’s not 100%
he won’t be 100% coming out of of spring
which is okay considering the injury
that he had to me it’s it’s more
important that he learns this new system
now so when he is 100% and ready to go
in in the fall um he can run it
seamlessly yeah totally agree and if
there’s one position that can get
through
spring uh without being 100% I think
it’s probably quarterback because
they’re not going to get hit in practice
anyway uh they’re not supposed to be and
so you can still have a very productive
spring as a quarterback while being
injured which I don’t think is probably
true if you’re an offensive lineman or D
lineman or linebacker uh when you’re
limited you’re very
limited yeah I mean
Hey Stephen how long did it whenever you
had to learn a new offense how long did
it take you as a quarterback to feel
comfortable in
it yeah
uh you know grabbing it on a chalkboard
and being able to spit it out in a
huddle I would say you know in the
spring I felt pretty good uh being able
to do that getting people lined up I
felt very confident now being able to
play Fast uh it took me a lot longer and
I was a reps guy and you know I would
say it was well into ball camp where I
was really starting to feel comfortable
in Mike Sherman’s offense uh now in the
NFL was completely different I don’t
really feel like I got comfortable until
probably maybe game three or four of my
second uh preseason schedule uh just
because there’s so fewer reps to go
around and you’re just kind of watching
a lot more and how much progress can you
make um or can Connor or all the
quarterbacks be be expected to
make uh once spring is over so from that
time from the spring game until August
Camp
starts o yeah it’s a great question a
lot a lot of progress uh you know me you
know physically I think a part where
Connor can really improve his game in my
opinion is he’s got to take care of his
body I think he’s got to beef up a
little bit um and grind uh to to build a
a good foundation that he can last the
entire season I know you know a lot of
people are going to blame his health on
the offensive line but as a quarterback
uh you know Tom BR was a master of this
of taking care of his body uh you know
putting the right types of uh Foods in
into the system and then also just
avoiding unnecessary hits in the pocket
he was great at deflecting hits right
and so you can do all that the offseason
certainly getting in shape uh the other
part too though is now that you’ve gone
through the spring you know what your
coaches are asking of you on different
route Concepts so you’re going to be out
there with your guys doing seven on
seven you know how Colin Klein is going
to ask you to read this play and you can
work on that whereas going into the
spring you didn’t really know yet
because you hadn’t been coached by them
as far as what it is they’re G to ask
you to do on different uh Concepts so I
think you can be very very productive
Stephen uh we talked about this at the
top of the show just want to get your
thoughts where do you feel offensively
A&M is proven like is is any position
out there outside of maybe just Connor
proven yeah I agree you know I think
Connor is proven to some extent but
Conor has a lot to prove let’s you you
guys know I’m I’m very high on Conor’s
ability but let’s not mistake here that
he has to go out and
earn uh that praise right uh football is
a show me game and you’re only as good
as your last performance right and
that’s what I love about football no one
cares what you did last year they only
care about what you’re going to do the
next game and so for Conor he’s got a
lot to prove right now he’s got to prove
to his team that he still deserves to be
qb1 uh that’s true every quarterback but
at the same time you look across the
board yeah you got some guys that have
had some good moments no Thomas that
wide receiver comes to mind
um you
know but is there one guy where you’re
really saying hey this guy is a proven
Allstar probably
not um on
offense we were talking about earli I I
I I was sold maybe there’s a difference
difference but I was sold on Donovan
Green as a freshman and I was really sad
that he got hurt last year because I
think he’s a really good receiver and he
can do things with the ball and I’m sold
on Connor but uh beyond that I you know
I feel good about moose I think Donna I
think uh Noah Thomas needs to produce
more I think he probably has more to
than
anybody is he I think he’s solid but we
need more I mean why they have 29
catches last year I know if there were
some injury issues but yeah and think
six of them were in the first game a
year let me this is for both of you a
year ago would we have said Bryce Foster
Ruben
FY
uh I don’t know because well I thought I
thought Ruben took a step back we talked
about that as a sophomore than he did as
a as a yeah I thought he played better
as a freshman than he did as a Bry got
hurt as a sophomore right so I don’t
know I think both guys in my opinion
have regress I think Bryce Foster has a
lot to prove uh just consistencies of
snapping the football uh too many snaps
on the ground I mean that’s that’s the
the first step of being a good Center
and then I think the the second part of
that is being consistently good not only
in in the Run game but but in the pass
game
and if I’m an offensive lineman I got a
huge chip on my shoulder which I think
honestly makes for a pretty bullish case
for that group because they’ve been
piled on for the last 365 plus days
they’re going to hear it all offseason
about how Conor can’t stay healthy
because the offensive Line’s not good
and that when you get a bunch of guys
backed into a corner that have gotten a
lot of rest there’s a chance that they
could be surpris some people talking to
stepen McGee Paragon Financial R qb1
here on Tech aags radio let’s talk about
the other quarterbacks Jaylen Henderson
Marcel Reed what do you like about their
game Jaylen Henderson uh I was just so
impressed with the maturity and the way
he stepped into being
qb1 and he handled it like a
professional uh I felt the team really
believed in him I don’t think there’s
any one part of his game where you just
say he Wows you uh but I feel very
confident that he could go out there and
win his football games which I think is
exactly what you want from your backup
quarterback um Marcel Reed though I
think has that spark to where you say to
yourself man he really he doesn’t look
like a backup to me he looks like a guy
that could be a legitimate starter and I
think it’s the athleticism but to coach
ELO’s point point you know I think that
when you watch him play there’s Peaks
and valleys and the difference between
being good and great in my opinion is
the great ones are consistently good at
making the layups right Tom Brady’s not
going to miss a guy in the flat uh so I
think being very consistent as a passer
is the next element for him right
especially versus very good defenses so
at A&M the bar is to
win 12 games right so uh if you’re going
to beat Georgia you’re not going to be
able to just run around and use your
legs all game you’re have to stand in
the pocket and make tight window throws
versus press man-to-man coverage with
guys in your face and I think that’s the
next step for
him well uh obviously he’s got a lot of
growth to do but I saw enough in that um
in that Texas Bowl to think you know
what this kid has some has some juice
and a lot of it so I like what I saw
from him of course there’s a lot of
growth that has to now I wonder um if
any of those quarterbacks if either one
of those quarterbacks probably Jaylen
Henderson will still be around when the
season opens Hey Stephen before we uh
hit a break I do want to ask you about
Kell man looks like he worked out with
the 49ers on Wednesday are you surprised
that he hasn’t latched on somewhere at
this
point you know look the NFL is tough it
it you can be a really good football
player and and the ball doesn’t bounce
uh in your direction and you’re looking
for a roll uh a lot about being in the
NFL is is certainly making the most of
your opportunities when you’re given
because there’s so few but the second
part of that is that you got to be at
the right time at the right place right
in a system where you fit the
opportunity uh is that the guys in front
of you get hurt and you make the most of
those reps that that’s the name of the
game and so it’s tough you got to just
try to find any opportunity you can get
I can’t say that I’m surprised I think
it’s a a story that you see very very
often for most players that go to the
NFL but uh I would also not be surprised
for him to latch on and do really good
things as well all right let’s hit a
break here we’ll come back with Buy sell
lease got some other questions for
Stephen you’re listening to Tex a radio

texags radio presented by David Gardner
Jeweler r Insurance Studio it is the go
hour uh presented by the warehouse at CC
creation Steve McGee with us there on H
the hotline Stephen I do want to play a
little Buy sell lease but I’m going to
throw in a fourth option Futures Market
okay so you you can put one of these on
Futures and I want you and a kind of a
playoff what we talked about you know
proven position groups but what position
groups on offense do you believe in uh
QB wide receiver uh and I have tight end
in that group if you want running back
and offensive line your options are bu
sell lease or
Futures all right well I’ll obviously uh
buy the quarterback position just
because of Connor um and I’ll probably
lease the wide receiver position I know
we get some transfer portal guys and we
do have some productive Playmakers at
that group already guys like moose and
Noah Thomas uh jay walker uh and then
you add in a group of of young guys um
and look I I’m going to sell the
offensive line until I see something
different that proves to me that they
can uh protect and create lanes for the
runners okay and Futures did we do
Futures uh I did not do Futures o
offensive line no no not running back
let’s go running back yeah it’s actually
a really good one uh just because you
know Moss did some really good things
Ruben is a good young player think that
he’s got to show us more to live up to
the five-star uh ballot that he came in
with so I I’ll definitely on the Futures
market I’ll take runningback OB play the
game um I don’t know that I can disagree
with anything I’m buying I’m buying the
quarterbacks especially Connor I’m uh
leasing the receivers because I thought
Jay Walker was really good last year in
a I mean you got more out of him than
you expect I like what I’ve always seen
from moose when he
plays uh and Noah flashes and I’m going
to group the tight ends with them and
you got uh Donovan Green coming back so
I’m going to at least
that I’d have to I’d have to sell the
line based for the same reasons that
that Stephen just said and the futur is
well I think there’s a a pretty good
future at running back with Ruben Owens
I like what I see from him I would be
willing to put o line on Futures I don’t
know who I’d put on on sale in this in
this scenario but I would be willing to
listen to ol line on futures um
if because of Adam Cushing BEC I’m sorry
that caught me off I spilled some water
on me you got a you got a little snuff
in your in your lid this morning over it
was loud too I just spilled some water I
think we were all this talk about uh
leasing or selling the offensive line
got me rattled right well uh but do you
follow me here Steve like I could see a
Futures conversation there if Adam cuz
think they have talent there I love
Chase bantes I saw what Bryce Foster did
as a freshman I saw Ruben FY as a
freshman Trey zoon is growing he’s
looking like a nice there are some
options the new kid uh armage Reed right
so there are some options on the
offensive line I have to put them in
this option as a cell until I see it but
I can be talked into Futures based on
new coaching new development well you
know really I don’t know that there’s
any for for what you just said about
offens I don’t think there’s really
anything I’m I’m willing to think okay
I’m I’m selling I could have said I’m
selling um Conor wigman maybe I should
have gotten more more creative and said
because I already told you I’m sold on
him right see that’s what the way I
should have approached it we play
Stephen you see my point though you know
I I think that the offensive line the
bullish case there is at the end of the
year when you saw the scheme adjust post
Jimbo they started getting the ball out
of the quarterback’s hands more quickly
and it helped that offensive line then
you saw the runners be much more
productive so it wasn’t all bad last
year I really thought they had glimpses
of being a productive offensive line
especially later in the year when I felt
like they weren’t calling these five and
seven step timing passes which are
further down the field that take time
that put your tackles especially on a
bind on the edge with no help no help uh
right no chip no tight end attached
you’re just saying hang on for your dear
life and then your quarterbacks are
taking a pounding so you know I thought
that helped them a lot and they showed
production from that and so my point
there to say yeah there is certainly
ability which you mentioned but put in
the right scheme and put in a position
for Success from a play calling
perspective and both a technical
perspective coaching them fundamentals
there’s also a very bullish case there
too so I really don’t see this group
regressing at all I feel like they can
only get better yeah and I think the
addition of or the arrival of Tommy
moffett’s going to make a big difference
there as we’ve talked about how often
did you see A&M in a third and short
fourth and short and you just couldn’t
pick it up because they weren’t strong
enough to push the other team off the
ball let me throw you this guys Cyrus
Allen the wide receiver
who I’m excited about seeing what he can
do huh see the Louisiana attack guy yep
if he gives you half of what Trey Harris
G gave Old Miss yes half and by by the
way Trey Harris last year 54 catches 985
yards four touchdowns if you get half of
that to what you already have yeah
that’s a pretty good group yes it would
be I it would be a very good group I’m
I’m I’m I’m not too concerned about the
receiving core I think there’s ability
there uh Stephen thank you brother
thanks for your time enjoyed it guys
have a good weekend happy Masters enjoy
brother uh Ste Paragon Financial OB sir

about to come back from break I had that
oh yeah big time you know that was was
ingrained in the training over the years
at ABC I don’t see Joe gleon do that
ever Joe gleon is the one who taught me
well he should have taught you better
Joe scho is like what are we talking
about welcome back to techx radio we are
presented by David Gardner Jewelers we
are here in the r Insurance Studio
Bonnie’s with us Jim schle with us how
are you sir I’m doing well beautiful day
uh got great weekend of weather coming
up so it should be a fun weekend of
baseball let’s go back to Tuesday
because there was a quote that stood out
to me played is brutal of a baseball
game you can possibly play that I can
remember at A&M but you guys still found
a way what what does that just say about
this group I think he says a lot about
him I think
uh you know we played horrible um as I
said to a few groups
yesterday uh How would how would you
like to be judged on the worst 10% of
your life right or the worst 10% of your
actions like we’ve all made mistakes and
screwed up and uh yeah that I hope
that’s not 10% I hope it’s like 2% of
our season um but you know we had a
young pitcher on the mound didn’t throw
strikes threw a ball threw a pickoff
away threw a threw a bun away Camario I
mean I think all of us if there’s two
outs in the ninth inning to go of the
World Series and we want somebody to
feeli a ground ball I think we want it
hit to Ali he had an error uh it just
kind all kind of got compounded but
there was never a panic in our Dugout I
think there was obviously embarrassment
m i mean the guys who are in the arena
are the ones who are embarrassed more
than anybody um but there was never a
panic there we didn’t have to have some
coaches meeting and and uh and get out
of character I thought we stayed in
character I thought obviously Peri U
Zane badm you know he got some decent
outs Perry got four great outs struck
out three left-handed hitters which is a
good sign and Cortez was awesome and we
and we hung around against a really good
pit group of pitchers you know UTS a
expended a lot of uh of capital to try
and win that game with their pitching
staff and we hung in there and obviously
Appel had a great night but yeah it says
it says a lot about our team uh how they
handle that I I’m looking forward to
this weekend Vanderbilt coming in here
and I’ve talked about it all week coach
the crowd should be
fantastic yeah the crowd should be
awesome I think we’re uh technically a
sellout Saturday there’s still a lot a
fair amount of um ga lawn type seating
we’re going to section 12 seating I
believe on Friday and Sunday all people
need to do is call the ticket office and
say hey what do you got um and believe
me we’re going to sell as many GA
tickets as if it’s up to me we keep
selling them somebody just find a place
to sit find a place to stand watch the
game you can always sit out in left
field I think put up a lawn chair try to
see the game the biggest thing is we
need our season ticket holders to to
show up or set as we’ve been working on
all year send your tickets back in uh
send them to somebody send them to me
I’ll I’ll make sure somebody gets them
uh because we want to continue to to to
pack this place and it’s been awesome
all season I thought Tuesday night with
the weather being a little iffy I
thought we had a great crowd Tuesday
night and uh and so it should be an
awesome weekend but but there are seats
available and and please call the ticket
off us one of the things that I think
went under the radar on Tuesday night
because of obviously Cortez’s
performance than Appel doing something
really historic for Aggie baseball but
Kaden cell kind of the continued
maturity bad readed on a liner right at
him that plays way harder than a lot of
people think and you know that it’s the
toughest play right liner right at you
and you got to make a decision on it and
then he comes up in a huge spot for you
in the eighth to get it tied to allow
Jackson to have the Ulen magic in the
ninth yeah the other thing that the
we’ll talk about the triple but the
other thing that happened in that game
is I left him in I was kind of Pitch hit
tarot I was really really close to
putting uh cuz the guy that was throwing
was throwing all fast balls the Lefty um
which would have been a good match up
for tarot could have put tarot in that
spot moved Chestnut to Center Jace to
left and Ryan the second base but I
really want I really want cell to get as
many left-handed at bats because we’re
we’re just a better team with that
defense in the Outfield and the
combination of his upside as an offense
and if you remember that at bat runner
at first base two outs Lefty up ah man
man I was almost going to get tarot in
there but I I just want to see him do it
he smoked the ball at the second baseman
it just happened to from my vent the guy
didn’t get a good read on the ball and
it went right in his gloves like 108 off
the bat yeah
108 I don’t know if the guy saw it
hopped in his glove 463 double play and
that’s how frustrating baseball is but
then the next time smokes a triple to
tie the game and then you know we we
then we struck out three times but uh
but yeah Kaden uh he’s a really good
player and he’s just every day you can
see him he gets a little bit better at
something and uh he’s a good one really
special well I want to go a little bit
inside baseball here to talk about the
first two as good as you had a I thought
you had a pretty good night offensively
but you’ll look at it through a coach’s
lens and said it could have been way
better had Bases Loaded one out for the
first two in the first two innings so
take me first through what happened with
the Braden double in the first and like
a miscommunication between Nolan and
Gavin rounding third yeah so here’s what
happened is uh sometime like I said this
yesterday everybody has a different
vantage point in the game so sometimes
the person that sit in the upper deck
can see way better than I can see in The
Dugout and that that also applies to a
base coach and what happened to Nolan on
that play is he saw the ball hit the
fence but he lost it he lost the ball uh
he I think he said he thought he maybe
hit the outfielder he didn’t see it we
all saw it that he could have kept going
um so he lost it and then he found it
and we’ll get back to this in practice
today Gavin’s error was we have a sign
it’s a way that Nolan Nolan will Point
his hands down on the base do not round
the base do not round That Base because
the ball’s coming stay there then you
have obviously score them and then you
also
have touch the base find the baseball so
you round the bag and you as the the
runner’s job is to find the ball
he was doing that if grahovic would have
rounded the base and and then saw the
relay throw kick off the runner he’d
walk he’ have walked home but where
Gavin made a mistake which is human is
he stopped right you don’t and and he
stopped and by the time he turned and
saw that the um that the ball kicked
away he couldn’t score because he was
just standing on the base so that’s the
first thing and then yeah the the Fly
ball to right and then the and then and
then the ball was hit to right field and
grahovic uh Nolan told him tag tag
you’re going which means you’re going
that’s that’s a decision that we’re
going to they’re going to be reminded
today that’s not your decision no one’s
going to tell you whether you’re going
to tag or not tag tag that means you’re
going grahovic took off and he is an
instinctual baseball player who’s from
Southern California played a lot of
baseball well he just decided on his own
because he saw the outfiter coming in
because there was definitely going to be
a play he decided on his his own to stop
MH Braden’s job is to is you have to
look at both right and you have to oh
they’re tagging they’re tag okay so I’m
G to tag and then he starts to take off
he’s and he’s looking at rovic in
initially and sees that he’s going but
then I mean I guess you could say he’s
got to keep his eyes up a little longer
and see that he stopped but he just kept
going and then we end up you know
horrible well and then once you’re in
kind of that maress you really would
like to run down to happen between third
and you can’t give up on the play so
what Gavin had to do in that moment as
soon as he
saw uh mcgomery and a rundown is he’s
got to take off and you just create the
fire drill hoping that they screw up a
rund down and try and find a way to
score yeah I wanted to that was that was
fascinating listen to absolutely and
that was like inside baseball stuff that
I’m watching happen and the only thing I
would have said was like for Braden
tagging in this that second inning
scenario going to third is you don’t
have to be in a super big hurry right
and he wasn’t when you watched the video
he wasn’t in a hurry he took off and
then he looked he went he looked I I was
why watched this last night on the video
he looked to see if the if it was going
to air mail he looked and saw oh okay
the gu’s it’s going home there’s going
to be a play so I’m going to go ahead
and go if it would have been like a low
throw or the guy would have uh cut it
off I mean um short hopped it or
something like that he may have sat
still but he he saw oh there’s going to
be a play so I’m going to get this base
the second inning I want to talk about
too because I think it’s important to
fans know about this so we had the bases
loaded the guy has a four pitch walk to
Chestnut and they’re all close little in
little off little up little down you got
the ball five chant going right and so
the one thing I’ve told our team the
ball five chant is never going to affect
what we do right I can’t just take a
pitch hoping that we get ball six or you
know whatever for ball five if they’re
spraying the ball all over the if
they’re missing by a lot we’re going to
take but that guy was little miss little
miss little miss little miss and so
grahovic looks at me before he gets in
the box and basically looking in my
taking I was like heck no buddy this
guy’s trying to throw a strike the coach
just visited he’s going to center cut a
fastball hit that thing a mile you just
missed it just missed it I mean just
missed it right and then we and then we
have some other parts of our offense
where if the guy ahead of you gets out
on one pitch that’s an automatic take on
the next pitch well I was like he’s
going to do it again he gonna throw it
to Jace go ahead Jace go ahead do him a
change up you know wish he would have
taken it he actually hit the ball off
the end of the bat to a part of the
field that no one’s ever standing when
he hits but because the bases were
loaded the third baseman was standing
there if it would have been a different
you normally they play the shifts on
Jace so we made two outs on two pitches
which goes against all of our offensive
philosophies but that’s that’s the
thought process behind why I’m letting
grahovic swing after a guy just threw
four straight balls Monaco and I
actually talked about that on the
broadcast yeah and I was like look
people will be frustrated with the
outcome but that is a pitch you want
Gavin to swing at like we were looking
at the track man and it was the whole
ball on the middle inner third we’ve
seen Gavin hit that ball off the wreck
Center exactly right and he just missed
it so everybody will get so upset with
the outcome but they don’t understand
that like you will roll the dice with
Gavin swinging at that pitch in an RBI
spot every time regardless of what’s
happened in front of him every time
every time I know you’re super busy and
I don’t know if you get to take a time
but did you listen to his
call uh Billy’s made fun of I assume
Billy’s reached it was really good
bronnie yeah Billy would made made it I
thought it was I thought it was cool
that you talking about the let’s go home
yeah that was I love that I thought it
was accurate I wanted to go home
too the only reason we said that let can
I say it again with you here the other
reason we said is because in the
commercial break Andrew and I were
talking to the producer and we were
looking at the radar and going man if
the last thing you want is for UTSA to
drive across the state you play nine 10
11 Innings rain comes and then it’s
either going home in a tie or how you
want to finish the game a win and a
loser well look at what happened to
Texas and Texas state that same night
absolutely and so we were sitting there
going okay Braden’s going to win this
thing in the like let’s go he tried to
on the first pitch and then the second
pitch after Braden misses it Jackson
goes and so like it was just organic so
and I apologized profusely to Andrew for
stepping on because his calls are the
best so I I didn’t mean to step on him I
thought you were great and I just I like
to say in front of schl um can I follow
up with Troy juing just he’s obviously
got a ways to go but how nice is is it
to have him as an option again yeah I
mean I don’t I don’t know viable option
who is he just yet uh we’ll see I’d like
to see him throw some today maybe
tomorrow before we decide if he’s going
to be on a roster yet or not um but I
think for his own mental state he’s been
through a lot man he’s had he had one
doctor tell them your career’s over and
then had and then I um I have a not me
personally but a back doctor in Fort
Worth that took care of all of our guys
at TCU who’s just an awesome guy and
we’ve sent we sent boast to him we’ve
sent uh he’ll see our guys our our Aggie
players at any time so we sent him over
there and he had a different prognosis
and gave him a couple shots and he’s
really gotten back in the bullpen he’s
been 87 89 and throwing a really good
breaking ball um the other day was just
a knock the rust off type situation we
were looking for a
scenario to where I could use him and
get him out quick and that inning was
two back-to-back lefties to start the
inning early in the game I knew if it
was late in the game and the game was on
the line I’m not going to use him in
that scenario um so he felt good
yesterday uh we’re just going to have to
kind of spoon feed beat it until we get
him back uh to be a little more
effective and throw more strikes it
seems like we’re 33 games in or whatever
things have kind of settled in terms of
that everyday day-to-day lineup except
for at second base and what people don’t
know is that you guys continue to hold
controll or not controll in squads like
Sim games during the week so there’s
continuous evaluations being made and is
it like you know we got to kind of ride
the hot hand at second base as we figure
this stuff out yeah yeah I mean we had
seven half in seven guys throw not seven
guys Ty Baker through two innings
Eldridge Armstrong through yesterday
Bowden and toik pton Smith they all
threw and I had Chestnut and Tarot lead
off every inning so they would get then
all the other guys hit after them so
they can get maximum at bats so they can
get used to playing and I can also we
can evaluate them and so um you know
when we make these decisions it’s not
I’m not just picking them out of a hat
although that may work better who know
knows but um but no I mean I think yeah
we we look for the matchup play the hot
hand um is is the guy we’re facing a
strike thrower can justest nut squat
down maybe draw some walks um but we
know that with the south wind all this
weekend Ryan Targo changed the game with
one swing and he had a good three or
four game stretch then had a rough one I
gave Kaden Ken a start because I felt
like he had three awesome at bats in a
row uh we know uh he’s trustworthy on
defense he’s actually going through a uh
it’s not a big injury but it’s a pain in
the rear end injury right now he wasn’t
available to play uh Tuesday I think
he’ll be available this weekend it’s
nothing bad um he’s just got to get over
it but uh but yeah we’re just we’re just
trying to find Jack Bell isn’t isn’t
lost on this thing either he had a good
day of Sim games yesterday so um if
that’s our biggest concern we’ll be okay
and I think too one with those Sim games
like understanding that the guys that
are one pitch away from having to play
Hank Bard and Blake Bender up any of
those guys like those are important
evils and we Char them all and I and I
could you know no one’s ever going to be
able to walk out of here and say well
you know I only got nine at bats in the
game you got 80 in the Sim games buddy
so and we evaluate them and I got the
crowd I got my phone hooked up to the
speakers and we got the crowd noise
going and we we know who’s throwing
strikes and who’s not so that we can a
develop them help them get better as
players but also have them ready when
somebody goes down so it’s you know Bard
catches Coffer catches so obviously
Appel doesn’t catch in those games but
just trying to keep everybody ready
because you’re always thinking at least
I’m always thinking all right when when
it goes bad when this guy goes down or
if this guy goes down what are we going
to do and then we have those players
ready I guess last thing because we’re
up against a break right I want to ask
you about this Vanderbilt team to me
when you look at him on paper obviously
very skilled Tim Corbin’s never going to
run out nine guys that are not skilled
but it’s a different looking team to me
that maybe offensively than what
Vanderbilt has done in the past because
you know there’s typically been somebody
in the middle that will really hurt you
but their doubles numbers are way up
this year and then obviously they run
the bases like crazy yeah they run the
bases like crazy they’ll bunt throughout
the lineup um two primary guys run the
bases like crazy they actually hide one
of their best power guys in the nine
hole vastine I think um he’s got a lot
of extra base hits and he he’s sneaky
sneaky power um and they they’re playing
three or four freshmen that are super
talented the thing about Vandy is
because of their academic situation as
far as I know they can’t get a lot of
transfers excuse me they can’t get a lot
of the big transfer names they’ll get
some of them um so they have to have
their young players grow up and and RJ
Austin and some of these other guys who
have been playing for a couple years are
now evolving and they had a I think he’s
a freshman right-handed hitter um he hit
two homers against LSU over the weekend
dude huge dude and the wind’s going to
be blowing out so they they have more
power than they’re showing um and
obviously the pit it’s the pitching it’s
the they have like they use five or six
lefties and they use them all the time
they pitch to situations big big Power
arms you fans are going to want to
really see on Saturday cart Holton the
little Lefty he’s electric strike
thrower up to 95 I mean we have our
hands full with with uh with their big
velocity pitchers all weekend uh
obviously see the Focus right now is
Vandy but over the N the next nine days
seven games just with a short week next
week or the Thursday start to that
series just do you have to kind of
manage bodies as you go through this no
you know not really um unless someone’s
banged up it is what it is we talk about
this all the time we don’t you know
these guys if we play through the
weekend they’ll have Monday off
Tuesday’s a four o’clock game which is
going to be exciting I think uh General
Welsh throwing out the first pitch at
the Air Force Academy in town which is
always an awesome experience um and so
hopeing get that game over at a decent
hour then we’ll travel on Wednesday
these guys are fine you know again they
all say they want to play pro baseball
here you go appreciate you sir thank you
thanks for having me gigum all right
gigum all right we’ll come back here in
about two minutes is Tech sags radio
presented by David Garner
jewers

e
Brian gonna stick around for a few more
minutes here Tex a radio presented by
David Gardner’s jewers I know a couple
people had questions for you I’m going
to read you this text from Sutton in
College Station he says uh bronnie thank
you I just learned something and I think
that was your
exchange with schl on the base running I
could sit there and do that whether I’m
on air or off air if it’s me and Coach
slash Nagle sitting in the lobby out
there like we could sit there and go
back and forth inside baseball um that
is what my brain Fires at the most
highest frequency it’s a shame I wish it
would do fire the same way in other
things but uh yeah I love the mytia and
the detail of talking baseball and
talking the game he you know it it kind
of reminds me yesterday JB moss and I
talked he’s going to be on the show
tomorrow and we T started talking
Fitness and I get this glimmer in my eye
he started asking and I was like and
that poor guy heard me for 22 minutes on
the phone like so I I see you doing that
with SLO like I I can see you guys are
overloaded Jibber oh but he but he was
all about it he wanted more INF yeah
he’s all in like every conversation
that’s what makes JB one of the best
humans ever is that every conversation
you have if it’s talking about Fitness
baseball he loves agie B basketball like
he Dives a th% all into the conversation
it’s cool he he does and I think we’re
on for like 20 minutes and I’m went to
go pick up anaise and she’s starting to
listen because it’s on uh what do you
call it Bluetooth and I anise tell them
what I eat and she like tells him
exactly my diet yeah so it was cool
let’s talk baseball though you’re poor
kids what do you mean they’re they’re
smart they’re smart but they’re like oh
Dad’s going to drag me into this
conversation again yeah but you know
what they know what a serving looks like
and you should too all right
baseballwise let’s talk about this
series I know tomorrow we’re going to
really go deep into it with the baseball
Bunch but just uh this Vandy team man
this is this is this is a team yeah it’s
again you look at the roster and SCH
slash is right because they cannot go
out and get transfers at the rate that a
lot of other schools in the SEC can due
to their academic requirements they do
have to bring these guys along so you
see the same names in the Vanderbilt
lineup year in you’re out and they
mature in the program and then Al they
always mix in a smattering of really
really talented newcomers and at the top
with RJ Austin it kind of starts with
him and you think about like RJ Austin’s
a smaller guy that can really run and
and this should tell you about this
Vanderbilt team being different than the
other ones usually at first base
Vanderbilt’s got a guy like first base
in right field Vanderbilt has had big
old Boppers yeah like somebody they
stick in the middle of their order
that’s going to be a 15 home run guy 20
home run guy hitting around 300 driving
in runs like crazy they really don’t
have that on this
team like RJ Austin is their best base
dealer he plays a bunch of first base
right it’s just constructed differently
that doesn’t mean they’re worse or less
talented they’re just different you know
usually you have a big Superstar Dansby
Swanson Enrique Bradfield uh Spencer
Jones who’s now in the big league or was
with in the big leagues with the
Yankees like you you typically have
those household old Vanderbilt names
that everybody across the conference
knows uh they are just constructed
differently Jonathan Vin’s a really good
player at shortstop he’s hitting in the
nine hole RJ Austin like I mentioned he
hits at the top plays center field in
first base that’s a weird combination
coel’s a young freshman who can really
really hit uh they did introduce like a
I didn’t introduce but uh they stuck
this this I forget his name but he hit a
couple home runs in that LSU series and
like the second one was off the top of
the scoreboard in left field right he’s
a freshman and he’s still he’s starting
to get some confidence and get going and
he would probably be their best power
bat but one thing they do Davis Diaz is
a really good player at third base they
hit a bunch of doubles so where you look
at their power numbers and you look go
directly toward home runs and you’re
going that’s not that impressive you
know they got I think they have like 30
or 40 as a team but then you start
looking at their doubles they’ve got
almost double the amount of doubles as
they do home runs and there are some
statistical advantages when I started to
look at the numbers for the aies this
weekend but on the flip side there’s
also some statistical advantages for
Vanderbilt so I think this is a very
evenly Matched series I’m super
interested to see how this thing plays
out with their power arms and their High
rde fast balls I compared their staff a
little bit we’ll talk about it tomorrow
just looking at the video that I’ve been
able to get my hands on of the
Vanderbilt pitching staff it reminds me
of Mississippi
State except it’s more left-handed heavy
right but Mississippi state was trotting
out arm after arm that was consistently
like 93 to 97 and then you had dangelo
SAA who was up to 98 99 and this
Vanderbilt pitching staff will do that
from the left-handed side so really
tough challenges for jaay Lavalette this
week uh Hayden shot this weekend any of
those guys that Kaden cell they’re going
to stay in the left-handed batter box
without the option of going to the other
side and that’s one of the coach lashn
will
mentioned second base and Ryan tarot I
think Ryan tarot you play him until he
gives you a reason not to this weekend
like if he’s having competitive at bats
with all those lefties on in the
Vanderbilt line uh vender pitching staff
and a south
wind Ryan tarot can miss hit a ball and
it goes out right and that could change
the outcome of a series and outcome of a
game and and thus the outcome of a
series so I think I I would run Ryan Tar
out there and just hope he can he get in
the middle of a baseball a couple of
times and if he hits two or three homers
this weekend you may walk out of there
winning the series because of his
contributions so Rob is on the hotline
he wants to ask you a question and he
said the questions for you or scho that
I could no way answer this question so
okay I’m gonna come up with some
questions for Rob that I don’t think he
can answer or bronnie can answer hey Rob
welcome to
texx Good morning good morning sir how
are you I think I’m doing well okay I
have a question for RB that he made a
statement the other day that on week
midweek games that all the teams that
come in here are really playing hard and
that that made me think except for the
Texas game it made me think are these
teams do y’all recruit does the coach
ever look at these players and that are
coming in they’re playing so hard are
they trying to move up like come D&M or
is it just something that and never br
up a lot of questions too like can he
can I don’t know any of the rules so
this is just out there can you recruit
players from teams that are you know
like Texas State and all them are they
playing harder to get noticed by coach
or is am I way off somewhere or can you
recruit them or how does that work now
that this transport portal is in Rob I’m
gonna let bronnie answer this question
but I could have answered this question
go ahead bronnie I want to hear your
answer no I want no you’re good Rob I
want to hear David’s answer my opinion
is anytime you go to an SEC team anytime
you take on a top five team in the
country yeah you’re you’re going to try
as hard as possible because that is your
Super Bowl so when you come can they
recruit openly on the field absolutely
not you have to be in the portal before
you could be recruited um but yeah of
course they want to leave good tape for
a coach to be like I wouldn’t mind
having this guy but that’s see I think
it’s a little bit different than that I
think a lot of these kids they come in
then they go to Mid majors in the state
of Texas and absolutely zero disrespect
to UTSA I love coach Hallmark they run a
fantastic program Texas State I Steven
trout is a really stinking good coach
and they do a great job of evals I grew
up wanting to come play baseball at
Texas A&M I would bet that there’s a lot
of Young baseball players in the state
abut they dream of going to A&M Texas
Texas Tech right like they grow up like
I want to that would be really cool to
play at those big three places not many
of them grow up wanting to go to mcne
State yeah or Lamar or Texas state or
UTSA they end up there and that’s fine
but in the back of their mind you got to
be going look like there’s a little bit
of a chip on my shoulder that I’m at
UTSA or I’m at Lamar and I’m Incarnate
Word and I’m going to play the big boys
like I it’s not that I want to go be
recruited in the offseason by these like
we’re a smaller school we come in with a
chip of our shoulder we’re really good
baseball players too it’s certainly
served Sam Houston State really well
recently hasn’t it it has they’ve been
super successful um against Power
programs in the region and I also think
that the baseball talent in this state
is so great that you’re not going to get
all the best players every single year
there’s going to be some guys that fall
through the cracks and even more now I
think that that pool of elite players is
growing every year because these kids
are getting so much good information and
good instruction from an early age and
they’re playing such high level baseball
from an early age age that that that
pool that used to be enough for A&M
Texas and Texas Tech to pick out of now
it’s grown it’s swelled so much that
they they’re not going to get all those
players in the state of Texas so um
there’s a combination then in terms of
like recruiting you you don’t do that
like you don’t do that until the after
the season and the kid has gone into the
portal I mean I’m sure with his
prevalent as the portal is now coaches
across the state and across the
especially in the SEC when they play
these midweeks against some of these
mid- major schools are going man that
left fielder for Texas State boy
good-look kid and a really good player
that’s exactly my point that’s exactly
my point but it it’s not like you’re not
gonna go Jim sashel is not g to directly
contact that kid or no one came like
that’s way over the line but when and
this is I don’t know the rules that was
my point too I don’t know all the rules
so I was just throwing this out there
yeah no it’s a it’s a good thought and
I’ll say this uh bradyon Montgomery
Superstar we knew that going into the
series
but let’s not I mean we all paid
attention to what he did in the re in
the regional last year like that that
left the mark and obviously he goes into
the porter you’re like we just saw him
up close a couple weeks ago yeah and it
helps with you know if you have
familiarity with the guy but with now
with all the video and data that they’ve
got on every player across the country
um there’s a there’s a system called
Synergy where all of it uploaded and
every coach can watch it so nobody’s
really a mystery anymore in today’s
college baseball like and good point
good point and you go back and look and
A&M has got a commitment out of the ivy
league for next year MH Wyatt Hensler
out of pen just set the ivy league
record for RBIs wow and so like even a
guy and’s had success obviously with the
iys that I ivy league kids that they’ve
brought in this year but like that was
something that would have been
completely unheard of five six seven
years ago is to be able to have all the
video you need to make these evaluations
a whole year in advance I mean Jackson
Appel and Hayden shot were committed to
Texas A&M this time last year so it yeah
it it’s completely changed the game but
it it’s bad it’s bad ju guu it’s um it’s
kind of a gentleman’s agreement amongst
the coaches like hey if it’s transfers
we understand the portal but don’t
tamper with my guys very much different
than what you see in football for right
now the baseball world is typically
they’re upstanding with this kind of
Gentleman’s Agreement that you don’t
contact any players until they’re in the
portal thank you Bonnie yep all right
let’s talk Heritage films that’s chance
mlan company they make documentary films
about families guys they they’ve been
capturing family legacies for a long
long time and now they want to bring you
a special way to honor your children
your grandchildren with the year Flix
year Flix is going to capture your child
or granddaughter’s year throughout a
professional session conducted in
Tomball which is right down the road
artistically blending into captivating
15 to 20 minute films celebrating their
growth their experiences and unique
personality don’t let these memories
fade make their memories and moments
last forever they really asked some
awesome questions we did it with one of
our daughters and it was just so such a
cool event we’re going to do it for all
four of the kids too because it doesn’t
matter the age right you can do it and
when she did it when she was 12 she’s
now 13 we can do a followup because
things have changed in the last year do
it when she gets to high school we can
do it when she gets to college so that’s
the year Flix option you know about the
Heritage film and they are so so good

sir Ronnie what’s going on oh oh oh wait
is this bronny oh is bronnie the the
full-time oh oh is this Nuno I haven’t
talked to you in a while what’s up man
how you
doing I thought this was
bronny Oh Aaron I’m sorry your your
voice cut out we didn’t hear any of that
you want to start over oh you didn’t
okay yeah Ronney what’s up what’s up man
how you doing how you doing you good I’m
great let’s just be honest about it you
also took a little bit of time off you
missed one of our calls because you were
in Vegas parting your butt off so this
is this is a we we get dual blame
okay all right listen I’m not here to
point fingers but um no I’m kidding I I
I listen I’ll say this for people who
are not familiar with our business we
love what we do um I don’t want to speak
for you but you know we appreciate every
opportunity that we get but also at the
same time listen you know when you when
you get in in a little bit of a slow

got to take full advantage spend time
with the family trust me I will be Miss
I will be out of town a lot of weekends
over the course of this summer so I’m
just giving you a hard time David but
it’s great to be with you I’ve missed
you love talking to bronnie but it’s
also great to talk with you as well well
congratulations back-to-back champion
your Yukon Huskies how about that thank
you yeah how about that yeah no I mean I
didn’t really play much of a role but um
but it was uh listen it it was fun it
was awesome and you know listen I’m I’m
obviously grateful as a Yukon fan to you
know be be you know see see all these
things in my lifetime but I’ll say this
David even even by this insane standard
of Ukon basketball that was an insane
season and it was interesting because
you know how it is being a fan covering
the team whatever is that there’s always
like that old school fan that you know
was always better back in the day that
and talking to Yukon fans after the game
on Monday night I think everyone pretty
much agrees that is the best Yukon
basketball team in the history of the
program which is kind of incredible to
think about all the great teams that
they’ve had and then I do think I I
listen I’m I’m not one that always feels
like I have to compare what what’s my
top 10 this and the greatest that but I
do think they time how they dominated
that tournament um how they dominated
the entire season I I think that’s in
the short conversation for greatest team
certainly in the modern history of
college basketball maybe of this Century
but I think you could put them up there
with just about anybody because what
they did over the course of the past
couple weeks was oh really the last
couple months was absolutely incredible
Dan Hurley’s not going anywhere right
like not anytime soon there’s no
Kentucky job or big job that I mean he’s
got everything he wants
right yeah yeah no it’s a great question
um I so to answer the question like I
mean listen I I will say um there there
is a dollar amount that an SEC school or
a big 10 school could offer that Yukon
couldn’t match um at some point right
like I think if we’re talking about
making him the highest paid coach
relative to everybody else in the sport
I think you can’t to matched I think if
you threw out $15 million a year don’t
think you can’t can match it so the
bottom line is um I I don’t think he’s
going anywhere he’s never been motivated
by money you know Nate o has said this
every time he signs a contract extension
he said look I was a high school coach
about eight nine years ago I’m grateful
that somebody wants me to coach their
basketball team at this level and I
think there’s a lot of that with Dan
Hurley who started as a high school
coach worked his way up to the low major
mid- major I actually thought one of his
funnier comments over the course of the
week was you know he was asked about
other jobs and he’s and I think it was
the Kentucky jobs specifically and he
said he said I just started making real
money he’s like I’m not ready to give it
all back in a divorce so um you know his
wife is from the Northeast he’s from the
Northeast his parents obviously are able
uh to be very involved with his life I
think he’s happy and I and listen he’s
making you know money that I don’t think
he ever imagined he would 8 10 12 years
ago so I I feel very confident that he’s
not going anywhere um not anytime soon
anyway hey this has nothing to do with
what we normally talk about at but uh I
just saw saw on Twitter and I went to
TMZ OJ Simpson has passed away um after
a fight with cancer I guess his uh
family tweeted it out from his account
so the juice is uh no longer with us um
not to necessarily break it down but
it’s just breaking news that just came
down here that’s a few minutes ago
that’s crazy I you know I did not see
that um yeah I I I you know it’s funny
right before we got on I saw something
flash from his Twitter account and I
didn’t really know I I didn’t I didn’t
look at it to be honest um that’s crazy
that that I mean listen all I’ll say is
I I know we know what happened um and
what he’s been accused of and what he
was part of and what he was found guilty
of and all that stuff but it’s always
sad when somebody loses their dad or
their grandfather or whatever uh and on
the football field he was obviously an
all-time great so uh I know you don’t
weren’t really asking for commentary I
don’t really have much to add beyond
that uh but like I said anytime anybody
loses a father or grandfather that’s
always a hard thing
so I feel like this Arkansas cow move is
really a win for all scenarios out there
right so potentially Kentucky will go
get Scott Drew let’s say in this
scenario and Coach Cal goes to Arkansas
both SEC teams I think get exactly what
they want in that kind of scenario am I
right here do you track with
that so I do and a couple things one you
know I was fortunate enough uh Wes Moore
the guy who broke the story out of
Arkansas is a good friend of mine I’ve
known him for years I actually had him
on my show on Sunday night you know as
the news was kind of breaking and I
think what stood out to me and what he
told me was because listen every time
you talk about calip Perry there’s
always whatever but I bring it up
because what he said to me why this was
so important for our because Eric
muscleman obviously elevated them to a
level that we haven’t seen in 30 plus
years and I think there was a fear of
are we going to just go back to the pits
are we going to go back to the bottom of
the SEC and you can criticize Cal for
not living up to the standard of his
first few years on that job but at the
same time listen I keep going back to
this Kentucky the tournament was
disappointing no doubt but he just
finished second in what we all believed
was the toughest ever SEC that we’ve
ever seen in basketball and so the guy
you know listen is he throwing you know
to to to use a baseball analogy is he
throwing 98 on the corners anymore no
but is he still capable of doing the job
yes and then I’d also this David too you
know you mentioned it from the Kentucky
perspective they’re going to be fine but
also from Cal’s perspective listen I
thought I I know everything he says is
is is bulletin board material lightning
rod stuff I thought his statement that
he released Tuesday afternoon was about
as perfect as it could be is he said
look you know I think my I think some
messaging has worn a little thin um I
think this program needs a new voice he
said but I love coaching young men and
and that really resonated with me
because I’ll be honest as I saw all this
unfold over the last couple months and
you know I was a guy the night of the
Oakland game that he should resign he’s
not capable of doing the job anymore but
seeing that statement it really struck
me as like you know what guy’s still in
his early 60s he’s been coaching
basketball since he was probably 19 20
years old and if somebody and if he
wants to keep coaching because he loves
the job and somebody is willing to pay
him to do it who am I to say that he
needs to retire he needs to step away or
whatever so those are my two big
takeaways and and but they they jive
with exactly what you just said which is
I think this is going to work out well
for everybody I’m fascinated to see what
happens with the Kentucky search I’ll be
fascinated to see what happens if it
goes beyond Scott drew um but I do think
Scott TR is probably gonna be the guy
but I do tend to agree with you I
certainly agree with you as a matter of
fact I think it’s just the best for
everybody everybody gets a fresh start
Arkansas’s relevant ky’s always going to
be relevant it’s good for colle it’s
good for college hoops it’s good for
both those programs he T let’s close out
with a football question I think we have
some spring games this weekend Jaylen
milro and Alabama we’ll get to see the
kin dbor era how interested intrigued
are you by what the new look B’s gonna
be yeah it’s crazy I always tune into
these spring games expecting to learn
something and then usually the starters
are out after a series or two but listen
I mean it’s it’s amongst the most
interesting stories in the sport I I
believe Ohio state has its spring game
too and listen you know kind of a put up
or shut up year for Ryan Day obviously
um you know we all think that you know
the the the collective really came to
bat for him to get the Caleb DSes and
the Quin Sean Junkin to the world so
I’ll tune in um you know I’m not gonna
make any sweeping judgments about what
kayin dbor is capable of this year or
what uh Ohio state is capable of under
Ryan day this season but I’ll absolutely
tune in and I think I listen I think
it’s great for college sports as a whole
that these games are getting more
promotion you know the Ohio State game
is on Fox obviously the Bame is always
going to resonate so yes to answer your
question I’ll tune in I’m excited about
both eras but I promise I will not be
there on Saturday afternoon tweeting out
hot takes if Jaylen milro goes uh seven
for 12 in the spring game and doesn’t
throw a touchdown pass Aon I appreciate
you brother I’ll try not to I can’t I
can’t I can’t promise I’ll try not to
though hey anything we need to know
about Aaron Tores online that you uh you
want out
there no the the podcast is coming right
now man I mean it’s just every day you
know this caliber thing is just we’re
humming and I know but I still think it
it clearly matters to A&M fans what is
going on in the world of basketball so a
lot of basketball will start to
transition back into football but this
calip Perry thing just C all of us off
guard so it’s been a busy couple weeks a
fun couple weeks and I know we got to go
so I appreciate you D thank you at talk
to you soon
brother thank you man appreciate you
later man Aaron Torres trying to do a
jokey joke on me doesn’t work I just
reverse it on people all right let’s uh

Welcome Back In texags Radio presented
by David Gardner Jewelers r Insurance I
don’t know why why did I say it like
that Kay what was up with that it was
exciting David Gardner Jewelers sorry

tidbits uh track tidbits correct yes so
the um agies have we had Pat in Pat
Henry in here yesterday talking about
them but I just wanted to go back
through some well stats that they have
the they have very much impressed
through the first four weeks of their
outdoor
competition both men’s and women’s are
ranked number one in the country um A&M
also has four individual and national
leaders Tamara Chapman made her
heptathlon debut at the 44 Farms team
Invitational last weekend with a PR of
6,219 points at the event leads the
nation and ranks her second in agie
history am Mara diston continues her
incredible Run for the indoor season in
jumps and NC the NCAA just updated their
boerman watch list which is an annual
Award presented basically to like the
most outstanding athlete in Collegiate
track and field and she has not moved

all right we’re back here on texags
radio we are presented by David Gardner
steers we’re here in the r Insurance
studio so let’s talk a little agie
softball because they’re fun to talk
about they’re playing great ball and
they got a big series coming up our next
guest is a four-year Letterman uh she
played under Coach Joe Evans obviously
uh a rare three-time National fast pitch
coaches association All-America and one
of the most decorated players in A&M
softball history we go to the hotline
we’re joined by Megan Gibson Lofton here
on Tech sags radio Megan good morning
how are
you I’m good thank you thanks for having
me thanks for coming on the show again
uh I guess let’s uh let’s just talk
about Trisha Ford in year two how
impressed you are with u not only the
success that they’re having but the
direction it feels like this program is
going yeah I think it’s really exciting
to even just think that they’re only a
year or two under her um and they’ve
made such huge progress and have already
I mean broken a lot of Records um
honestly I think they’re on such a great
path um it’s really exciting to be in
alumni um and just really exciting to
get to watch them as well well our
friend at KBTX Tyler Shaw has this uh
article Al Kennedy is talking about
Emily Kennedy by the way one of the uh
is the first agie to receive
back-to-back conference picture of the
week honors since All-American Megan
Gibson did it back in 2008 and uh you’re
also one of her mentors so just talk a
little bit about what you’ve seen from
from Emily and just the success she’s
having I mean I’m biased I love
Emily um I consider her kind of one of
my extended children but um she’s done
such a great job this year and the
biggest adjustment that she’s made um
just as an outsider being one of of her
coaches but also talking to her it’s her
mentality and honestly that’s what I’ve
been telling her since I’ve known her is
the one thing that would um help her or
hurt her you know and and I just I love
that she’s really committed to it and
committed to making herself better and
it’s showing now on the field and
everybody’s getting to see that Emily
Kennedy that you know I’ve known she
could be and um I think it’s it’s great
that she’s on the path that she is and I
know coach Ford’s helped her so much
with that as well what stands out you
know like when she’s on the mound that
in the circle that makes her so
effective um I think it’s her presence I
mean she’s already sixed to which you
know God blessed her with that but um
you know I think it’s just her presence
and you can really just see it in her
face um and I don’t know if that’s just
me knowing her and you know knowing when
she’s feeling good about herself but
it’s really just you know kind of her
demeanor on the mound and not allowing
you know the little things um to affect
her you know I think in the past she
would get frustrated cuz she wants it so
bad um she would get frustrated you know
whether it be the Umpire not giving her
the call she wanted or just her not
getting the outcome she wanted um and I
think that’s the biggest adjustment that
she’s made this year well and when you
have someone like her that you know you
can go to doesn’t it make everything
just easier not only for Trisha but just
for fielding purposes for you know the
offensive side of things you just when
you know you’ve got that there behind
you you know you’re
good absolutely you know it’s kind of
like having a a hidden weapon at all
times in your back pocket even though
teams are going to know that she’s a
part of that staff um when these other
pitchers you know on the AI staff
they’ve been doing such a great job too
but you know allowing her to get the
rest that she needs and then have her in
Your Arsenal in your back pocket if you
need her and you need to go to her I
think I mean as an opposing team kind of
looking in it’s like you know kind of oh
dang they have her you know so um when
she’s not starting the game and these
other agie pitchers are doing such a
great job getting the outcomes that they
need and um you know she is always
available to to have so Jasmine Hill
earns SEC player of the week honors this
week and uh she was phenomenal five of
eight for there from the plate had a
double a triple three walks while
driving in three runs scoring twice in
that series over Kentucky uh and her
defense has been on display as
well I will say this agie offense uh or
not offense sorry defense and the
Outfield have been so phenomenal all
year and it it starts and leads with
your center fielder Jasmine Hill um you
know not only is she getting the
recognition offensively but I think her
defensive skills kind of get overlooked
but she’s such a good outfielder and she
is such a great hitter and I do think
she leads the yagi offense you know kind
of how she goes is how the team goes and
um she’s a great hitter and she’s good
enough to kind of withstand that and
what’s hold that Beyond Jazz just talk
about the offense overall U what makes
them an effective offense that seems to
like especially capitalize on those days
that Emily is just doing
phenomenal they have the ability they
have speed throughout their lineup which
I think is so fun as a coach um you know
speed never has it that day so they have
speed all throughout the lineup they
have their big buffers they big hitters
so I mean honestly you get the speed on
and it takes a lot of pressure off of
your big hitters at the same time
because you just have to really put the
ball in play and let them do what
they’re going to do um you know I do
think it’s fun to watch the big hitters
come into play you know you have Trinity
Canon um as well as Jasmine Hill and
Julia cell you know you have kind of all
all of these big hitters you also have
Kramer ese who hit her first home run
last weekend um which is fun because
she’s a triple threat you know she’s
normally your G to Gap hitter but you
have these kids that have the ability to
hit the ball out of the ballpark um but
you also have your speedsters that you
know kind of set the tone for your
offense too well and another defensive
gem that they have out there and right
she’s looked phenomenal as
well oh yeah absolutely can’t forget
about Ally she you know I’ve never seen
a kid hit so many opposite field home
runs which is so awesome as a hitter you
know it’s not a usually a Powerhouse um
for a right-handed hitter to go opposite
field a lot but she she does such a
great job from a pitching perspective
it’s not just Emily Emily’s obviously
been the the key cog there but they are
ranked 17th in ra top 12 in shutouts
14th in strikeouts are there any other
hurlers that kind of jump out at
you yeah it’s you know kind of the Duos
of the Emily as well as Shaye Aran um I
know they got a really good game a
couple weeks ago out of uh Vestal as
well you know she’s a spinner and I
think you know they all just compliment
each other so well they’re all so
different um Emily love it has you know
a great change up great rise ball Shaye
aaman is going to be more down in the
zone with her drop ball um and then uh
vessel you know she’s going to be more
of a curve and a spinny type pitcher not
be overpowering to me they all
compliment each other because you you
know you throw Emily Kennedy in there
and she’s more of a Powerhouse um she
has developed to change up but she
throws so hard that the other three you
know really just compliment her and
compliment each other I think you know
as an offense opposing offense it makes
it really difficult to prepare one of
the things that I think is apparent when
you watch them is they have this ability
to win these pitchers duels right more
often than not you feel pretty good that
if it’s going to be a tight game they’ll
find a way
yes absolutely and I I think you know
last Sunday they lost kind of a
heartbreaker and lost the last few
losses um that they’ve had have been
really Heartbreakers you know they they
could have gone either way and I think
that’s an attestment to their pitching
staff um that they’re you know keeping
them in these ball games and limiting
runs and limiting the offenses and doing
what they need to do they’re ninth in
RPI um do you think they’ve played
themelves to a spot of possibly being a
host there in the uh in the toury
I think I absolutely think that they
have um you know their their strength of
schedule early on in the season I think
was not the hardest but still in a
really good position to put yourself
kind of where they are right now um the
secc you know is always a dog fight and
where they’re sitting right now you know
their uh remaining schedule in the secc
they have uh Alabama this weekend um
they have Old Miss their last film
series and then they close out with
Florida those are all really tough
opponents but I think you know if they
can win at least two of the next three
series and not get swept they’re going
to be in a great position going into
postseason are they ahead of schedule in
your mind like where a seconde program
should
be I think so and you know if you kind
of look at the history of where they
were leading into you know the Ford era
I I think they’re ahead of schedule you
know I don’t really know if there’s a
timeline on it but you know you don’t
really expect year one year two to be
really successful overly successful and
I think they’re I mean obviously they
solved the rest of season ago but I
think you know they’re on the track and
in a really good position to compete
this year and we’re lining up with a lot
of what the 2017 AI softball team did um
which is go to the World Series you know
but record by record kind of looking at
the staff on paper that’s kind of where
they’re sitting right now so I think by
far they are ahead of schedule well I
think this will be a good followup too
because I heard Trisha at her press
conference on Tuesday talk about this
team still has another level that they
can get to this season this is not in
the future she believes that there’s
better uh softball in the future for
this team do you see that some higher
levels for this
team yeah you know and I think just like
any other team you have your ups and
your downs and your bumps in the road um
you know I do think they’re not firing
on all cylinders which is still exciting
because you’re not at the end of the
season where you need that um and it
sets them up for the future you know I
think the series this weekend where
they’re at Alabama a huge series for
them in a recruitment standpoint um
because they’re going to be on National
Television which is you know huge but
it’s also big when you have a number
sign by your name so that you’re
nationally ranked so it’s it’s kind of
more than you know just the current
season it sets you up for the
recruitment of these players you know
that may be interested that are
interested but it also um sets a tone
you know for the future and I think
they’re sitting at such a great position
and doing such a great job this year of
building the program for the future well
that momentum I think really resonates
with kids trying to figure out where
they’re going to go right like you you
can always want to be an Aggie right
there’s there’s definitely those out
there but then when you feel like man
the Arrow’s pointing up there at Texas
A&M that that it is a game changer when
it comes to these top
recruits oh absolutely you know being in
the S is already one of those that kind
of puts that asri by your your school so
to speak but um having a program you
know that was you know not in the best
position before coach for took over um
and then it’s you know just trending
upward like you said earlier um these
Aggie you know players right now on the
team are huge huge reason for that um
you know they’re essentially helping
build the program and build it to
hopefully you know it’ll be a Powerhouse
but building it for the future and
building it for the recruitment of you
know those a athletes that are um you
know still trying to figure out where
they want to go well uh you mentioned
the SEC there a moment ago let’s just
kind of go there for a moment knowing
that Texas is coming into the conference
how much more difficult with Texas and
Oklahoma coming into the conference and
what that’ll mean especially renewing
that rivalry from a softball
perspective Texas is uh I think that
they’re ranked number one now but uh you
know having Texas in Oklahoma go back
and forth between number one and number
two for a while uh throughout the season
so far and um you know they’re
essentially Texas you know is
essentially kind of an upand cominging
program again with a takeover there with
Mike White um Oklahoma obviously the
power but I think it’s it’s great for
softball and it’s great for the SEC it’s
going to make the the conference even
harder if that was even possible but um
you know it’s still is it’s such a great
thing for our Sports and you know the
the ANM footall team you know um I think
as a as a program you’re excited that
you have these people coming into the
conference too but uh it is going to be
good for the sport you know whether
coaches like it or not I think it’s
going to be great well help us get ready
for this uh series with Alabama tell us
what you know about this Alabama
team um I think you could easy to kind
of look and say Alabama’s having a quote
unquote down year um they’re not you
know kind of dominating as they have in
the past um throughout their season
they’re having a a lot of bumps in their
road so to speak but um you know they
are still ranked so that doesn’t mean
that they’re you know bad by any means
but for them they’re having a down year
which I think is such a great
opportunity for A&M to kind of jump all
over it go into Stadium this weekend and
get a series win you know obviously you
hope for a series win but even better if
you get a series sweet um their pitching
is uh doing a good job they don’t have I
guess the dominant pitcher they have
more of like a Duo more of a staff which
is kind of what a lot of these teams are
going to but to me they don’t really
have like an Emily Kennedy um so I think
you know going in there I think it’s
looking really good it’s going to be
tough either way it’s always hard to
play in tuscala but I think it’s going
to be a good weekend well when you look
at what they’ve done this year they got
29 wins only eight losses A&M also has
eight losses but the difference has been
conference play where A&M has really
done well 10 wins there to the six wins
for Alabama so I feel like A&M has
sustained what we saw on the
non-conference when it gets to SEC
play yeah and that’s you know really a
part of the puzzle is to make sure that
you’re preparing yourself early on for
SEC um but I I you know I agree I think
Alabama like I said it’s kind of hard to
say that they’re having a down year but
they’re losing to me they’re losing more
than what they should be or what they
had in the past I guess you could say um
so I you know I think as far as it goes
it’s looking good for ANM but they also
have to go in and take care of business
well there’s not that much time left I
think they got what three conference
series and then they have an off week at
in the middle of all that so what’s kind
of the the mindset here for a team
that’s in the hunt like a them is
considering it’s still life in the SEC
and there’s still work to
do I think you know just trending upward
to to work yourself into postseason you
know obviously you hope to win the the
remaining parts of your game and win out
SEC but is that likely maybe not so
therefore you’re you’re trying to win
every series that puts you in a way
better position and honestly you’re not
trying to get sleept but you don’t want
to go in thinking that you know you’re
trying to win every single game and try
to pull every single one out you can but
working upward to work them into
postseason so everything’s turning in
the right direction and they’re firing
on all cylinders going into postseason
Megan how are things at 12
Softball they are good they are very
good our uh youth teams are kind of in
the wrath of uh rolling into I guess you
could say early summer um excuse me and
our high schools are finishing up about
to get started with practices here um in
the next three weeks I guess so it’s
going good going well good stuff well
thank you so much for making a few
minutes for us we look forward to

and we’re back here on texags radio
presented by David Garner Jewelers r
Insurance Studio Let’s uh check in with
Nick Savage Nick you are our softball
expert what do you think about this
weekend against uh Alabama um I feel
pretty good I again I think kind of uh
with the baseball team like they’ve
showed us enough to where we like okay
we can start talking about them they’re
pretty good so you know similar deal I
think if you can go take one on the road
and come home you’ll be feeling pretty
good about the series but if you can
take two then you’re feeling really
really good and I think uh uh throw up
those standings there we’ll take a look
at this they’re in the upper third of
that of the SEC and yeah look at that
you take one you know on the road you’re
11 and seven but if you take two you’re
going to be 12 and
six so if you have a rough weekend you
fall way down the pack so if you get
swept yeah it won’t be fun but but if
you sweep bam you know you know
potentially we’ll see what happens with
Florida this weekend and put up the rest
of their schedule there Cole and let’s
take a look there and yeah I mean
winnable series against ol Miss that’ss
at Davis Diamond so you
Florida yeah got to look at Florida and
then you know depending on how they in
the SEC tournament kind of I was looking
at the RPI I I came up with that you
know little note for Megan Gibbs and
Lofton but they we can I think we might
be able to start thinking about them
possibly hosting a regional as well so
think about how that how fun that would
be if you know Aggie baseball gets one
Aggie softball gets one a lot of a lot
of Diamond Sports to be watched in the
postseason this season hopefully big big
week for both programs no doubt about
that let’s uh go to the angry elephant
news and social Center and get around
the SEC uh what do we have there Caitlin
yeah we have a lot of quick little
things um we’ll start with baseball
Florida got beat for the third time this
season by their instate rival FSU who
has outscored them 45 to 15 on the year
um Ben BBY struck out four over five
innings of one run ball to lead number
one Arkansas to a 5-1 midweek win
against San Jose State on Tuesday night
and Colin fiser struck out 3 through
three Innings to give Arkansas an 8-2
win over San Jose State on Wednesday
night um its program record is 23
consecutive wins at the balm Walker
stadium with those wins the Razer backs
improved to 29 to3 overall on the season
their best 32 game start in program
history Arkansas wins 29 through its
first 32 games of the
season um more track and field there’s
18 SEC track in field and cross country
teams ranked nationally A&M still holds
the top spot men and women’s um the SEC
has had four of the top five spots in
the men’s ranking with Florida following
A&M at 2 LSU at 4 and Alabama at five on
the women’s side the SEC holds the three
top spots with ls at number two in South
Carolina at number three um we saw John
caliper has signed a 5-year contract
with the Razer backs with a beginning
salary of 7 million per season College
basketball’s um way too early top 25
rankings for the 20 um 2425 by 247
Sports came out with a list that doesn’t
factor in transfer portal or any
possible trans ERS but just as it is
right now they’ve got Alabama at number
five Tennessee at number seven Auburn at
number 11 Florida at number 17 and A&M
at number 23 I think that’s fair I think
that’s absolutely Fair uh
considering we don’t know the boots’
replacement yet right and that that’s
going to be that’s a big part of their
offense and a big part of this team so
that I think that is very fair and
considering look they they didn’t live
up to expectations most most of the
season they did turn it on at the end
yeah after that little five week span
I’m I’m feeling good about a top 25 spot
about 11 months before yeah yeah um we
get back to the tournament um the last
thing I’ve got is just some football
recruiting it’s decision day for Elba um
The High School class of 25’s um running
back Alvin H Henderson who’s listed as
the top 247 according to 247 Sports and
he’s choosing from today Auburn Florida
State Miami and Penn State which will be
live on 247 Sports YouTube channel at 1
pm interesting stuff there um I uh I’m
more interested what’s going to happen
over the weekend because A&M’s in the
mix for a couple of guys thank you very
much good stuff there Caitlyn as always
you’re welcome I do want you guys to pay
attention to something the coach Elco
said yesterday so when you listen to
this sound bite he’s talking about the
transfer portal and I think it is as
genuine as an answer as a head coach can
give considering the wild wow West that
we are in with this transfer portal and
by the way I think the portal opens up
for football on the 16th April the 16th
if I remember correctly but like couple
thing and and we’ll break it down
afterwards but a couple things that jump
out to me that I think were intriguing
is like look our football program is in
a really good place but you never know
where an 18 to 22 year old’s mind is
right uh but when you think about who is
here and who’s contributing and who’s
expected to be contributing those guys
are happy so here’s yesterday coach Elco
breaking down the transfer portal no
clue um yeah this portal stuff is is is
so wild and crazy you know I know that
our kids are happy I know that our kids
are are happy in the direction of the
program um you know to What level in
degree some kid is going to feel like
he’s buried on the depth chart or
doesn’t have the right opportunity that
he wants and feels like he needs to go
um I don’t think I’m necessarily overly
concerned with guys who are are you know
clear-cut returning players or differen
makers in our program I think there’s a
very good vibe around our program right
now and so um I would be really
surprised if something like that
happened but you know you just never
know where that line gets drawn for a
kid of uh I’m not in the position I want
to be in or I think I need to be in um
and so I I think I need to go you just
don’t know you have no idea where that
is for each kid so um you know like
everything you know we’re going to be
very open in the spring portal in terms
of evaluating and trying to see where
there’s value to be added uh if we feel
like there’s value to be added we’re
going to try to take advantage of it I
think you
know it’s it’s it’s different in college
because there’s multiple levels and
layers of free agency but I think that’s
the free agency model right is the
transfer portal yeah it is free agency
and it’s the only difference is at least
free agency you can look at a contract
and figure out when that free agency
ends right you can actually see all
right we’ve got soand so for three years
unless we decide to trade them or
there’s something crazy happens right
right now you can go in the portal as
much as you
want on the 16th what is that a Thursday
of next week is that right Kaitlin can
you look at the map I don’t I don’t even
know was it Wednesday of next week yes
I’ll look um like
there’s going to be a lot of people that
there’s look you’re going to see
Superstar athletes across the board go
in the portal and we’ve already seen
this just to get more money from the
place that they’re at even though they
have no intentions of leaving because
they got to send a sign nil step it up
right you’re going to see that you’re
going to see people like man I don’t
want to wait another year to start I’m
GNA this sucks right or man this
coaching staff I don’t know if I jive
with them the way I I can’t show up late
to meetings I’m not saying that’s
happening at A&M I’m saying that’s
happening everywhere right and that’s
the reality of the situation and it’s
worse because at least when you had the
one transfer you know like you’re like
all right but now you can just trans you
can transfer now and then at the next
window be like I’m going to transfer
back to where I just was I like it there
it’s cool there’s it’s you’re lowed to
do whatever and they’re also giving more
power to the universities when it comes
to nil like it’s
it’s we thought it was the Wild Wild
West before it’s going to be even more
of a wild wild west moving forward and
it’s I see chaos now I don’t necessarily
see chaos for Texas A&M I’m just saying
in general and we just got to instead of
complaining about it you just got to
have a plan to adapt to it we we can
complain about it right like we can be
like I don’t know what we’re going to do
man like can I count on this guy being
here in a few months no you can’t like
you can count on him with a window
closed but then you’re constantly
re-recruiting like if there was a time I
thought a college job would be better
than a pro job Pro job way less stress
yeah you’re dealing with millionaire oh
by the way you’re doing that with
college athletes as well in in some
cases all right we’ll talk about that
here in a few we’re also going to talk
some aie baseball with the fan show guys
we got a lot to get into but right now

just build homes they build
relationships Rel you knew that right
I’ve heard that I’ve heard that a time
or two you can uh learn more by the way
if you haven’t checked out the website
Gerard dasc construction.com shout out
to Kelly Adams who’s not here with us
Matt Browning hello sir good morning
David welcome back it’s been a minute
it’s been we haden’t seen you in a while
two weeks you’ve been taking off on
Thursdays I had two Thursdays off cuz I
had soccer he he wanted to get take off
so he didn’t have to do the fan show for
two weeks no I think the fan show is the
the the easiest time for me because I
can just make sure I get all the hate
mail that comes in and it it occupies my
time on kind of does itself really yeah
oh by the way Philip Bargas first time
on the program hello philli how you good
morning hey are you familiar with the
angry elephant news and social Center
I’ve heard of it yes you’ve got biger
fan y the nice top on right there thank
you yeah shout out to Greg Jasper out
there all right gentlemen uh by the way
Philip is a dear friend of mine who’s
joining the show now let’s talk about
what’s on your mind and I’m looking at
you but I think we got to go first with
Phil the new new blood he’s got to get
he’s got he’s got to we got to get it
you know indoctrinated yes indoctrinated
I was about to say something else but I
pulled back on the rains for
indoctrinated Phillip what’s on your
mind uh for me it’s got to be the Astros
you know getting pitching healthy so
they can try kind of turn this ship
around right four and 49 it’s kind of a
rough start but they’ll figure it out
only 150 more to go so am I allowed to
do some inside baseball with you sure
try me all right tell how about this he
likes the Braves MH he likes the Astros
M and he likes the Rangers yeah this
didn’t start last week no I know it’s a
lifelong yeah yeah he’s allowed he has
but you’re your your number one team is
the Braves right right wow because I
grew up a kid that was a pitching loved
pitching and I grew up watching the
super station yeah I mean that’s all
that hey that is true we all did every
kid in America got to watch the Braves
growing up because because of Ted Turner
but you know interestingly we did and
the cubs too yeah always had the Cubs
that’s true we did have the Cubs but I
don’t think this part of the country was
as into the Cubs as I think the got be a
southern thing right I mean because I
watched the cubs too because they were
on during the day they didn’t have
lights and so you know that was fun the
Braves had more star power in my youth
right it’s gonna be fun getting him and
Kelly on at the same time where you
start with Astros and he starts with
Ranger stuff every week oh shoot
me all right Matt what’s on your mind oh
buddy hey I got some I’ve got I’ve got
some well I’ve got an Aggie baseball
take but I’ve got to say that I love
Master’s week okay love start I love
Masters week I’m a golfer love golf not
very good at it but um my first job here
my first job when I moved to College
Station back gosh 99 no I’m sorry 97 was
uh uh Brian mun the old mun course uh
worked there for two years and then
moved over to Briar Crest back when it
was still a country club and so got the
golf bug all those years ago and uh the
Master’s week is always the beginning of
the golf year now we play golf around
here but you know the rest of the
country especially up north they this is
when they start this is when their
courses are are finally melted and
they’re starting to play golf and uh
it’s a beautiful thing so uh uh um right
now the weather’s still great to get out
and play and so I’m loving Master’s week
I’ll be watching it don’t have a don’t
have a favorite in this one um but just
going to go and go go and try to get
drinking as much of it as I can over the
weekend along with some big time Aggie
baseball so huge series huge Series this
weekend tell us a lot about this team um
um I think we know a lot about this team
right now um to go from I mean to to see
Appel go hit three home runs and to add
I mean think about what do you do if
you’re an opposing team now you’re
looking at a start of grahovic and
Lavalette Braden to now Jackson Appel
who’s on fire and then the the still
even even more got shot and and Teddy
burton all right behind him it’s going
to be it’s going to be a sick it’s sick
man that’s crazy you got to hit them
yeah you got to hit the lead off guy you
got to hit the leadoff guy and then you
pitch you’re vayer built you just drill
the leadoff guy as hard as you can you
you hit Gavin grahovic to pitch to
who well at least make nervous a little
bit right that’s the idea I don’t want
him to get hit I’m just telling you
that’s idea the the baseball idea well
let’s get into do you can you believe in
this I know you believe in them but like
are you allowing yourself to enjoy this
belief and really see like man this is
another College World Series type team
can you believe it at this point or do
you still have to more Philip Stars off
no absolutely I mean you know it’s like
Bull Durham right simple throw the ball
hit the ball catch the ball and they do
all of those very well especially
hitting the ball and so you know Tuesday
kicked it around a little bit that’s not
going to continue and so but with the
pitching that the guys can do and of
course the hitting the lineup you just
mentioned how how can you not right and
plus a lot of them already have
experience you know getting to Omaha and
of course slash Nagel and all his
Brilliance like I think I think it’s fun
to watch
we have a good year ahead of us yeah ba
the Bas in that question is is is isable
but yes I do think I’m why not buy in
this is fun it’s a blast this is one of
the best this is one of the best teams
Aggie a Aggie you know one of the of of
the actual team sports this is one of
the best teams I’ve seen us have in my
lifetime just I mean to this point in
the season they are absolutely fantastic
they’re blast to watch yeah I’m B I’m
bought in it’s baseball anything can
happen in baseball let me ask you this
about Bas because I think it’s an
interesting I think a lot of times
people do Bas so it they aren’t as
disappointed when things go south
exactly why they do it but you’re going
to be disappointed anyway so does it
really oh but I knew it was coming I
knew you’re still just how many times
there are degrees of Bas and that’s okay
yeah I mean we just have to talk about
it get it out you you get it out but
like to me like and I have it right I I
I but I don’t think
you Jim is a different breed of Coach
right like he’s he’s got different types
of players in there it it does not mean
you’re going to win the College World
Series every year or go to the College
World Series every year but he is
exactly what we want for our football
team what we want coach Elko to be is a
guy that you believe in more than Midway
through the season you’re like yeah
they’re still one of the top five teams
in the country and that’s all you can
ask for yeah you you mean with with SCH
it’s one of those things where like we
go in season going okay we’re going to
be good it’s like just that automatic
belief it’s it’s it’s it’s a it’s a
strange thing that you get it’s it’s
like um you know I hate to go back but I
I use my own fanhood I mean as a as a
longtime Spurs fan for all those years I
don’t watch them anymore I’m done with
the NBA but I mean you always believe
that they’re going to they’re going to
be good this year you had you had never
had that doubt now as a also as a
Cowboys fan I don’t have that same
belief and I haven’t had it since 96 uh
so I mean so you don’t so it’s funny you
know how how those beliefs come but when
when you look at the Aggie side I have
no idea what to expect from football
right now it’s still everything that’s
all still up there but you’re allowing
yourself to believe right well I’m
allowing myself to believe because I’m
seeing I’m seeing some really good
things happen um but there’s more to
football than just that Jimbo is really
good at at bring at the offseason as
well um and so um so yeah I’m allowing
myself to believe in that but baseball
I’m seeing the proof is in the pudding
and it’s on the FI it’s it’s literally
on the field I mean they are they are
they have been outstanding since since
the first pitch of the Season all the
way through now and uh man jump on board
this is a has to watch and uh don’t let
don’t let your Bas get in the way Philip
what questions do you still have about
this baseball
team I think my main thing is just
making sure we don’t wear out Ashen bag
because I mean he seems to have a bit of
a Rubber Arm which is great for that
role that he that he plays but just not
having to go to him and rely on him
every single game to get him out of
trouble you know like he needs to just
have some you know couple games where he
goes in throws some quality Innings and
he’s done whether they’re not every
pitch is a high pressure pitch that’s
that’s my thing that’s your you’re okay
yeah I mean it’s it’s pitching I mean
it’s it’s can the pitching hold up it’s
looked great so far this year I mean I
think the starters the bullpen have
looked I mean they’ve had their ups and
downs you know but way far more UPS than
they have Downs um and but with the
offense that we have I mean it’s it’s
how good do they have to be you know I
mean but there’s going to be times where
that offense where you’re going to run
into a good pitching staff with the
offense I mean it’s baseball well and
about that offense too like this offense
is so good that Jace who i’ he’s having
a great season but he’s batting 250
right now in in SEC play you can
withstand that because of how good this
offense is and by the way he’ll be
batting 300 here in a couple weeks
because that’s the level of player that
he is yeah I mean it’s it’s it’s one of
those funny things where I mean we’re
you’re going into an inning with the
with the tail end of the lineup coming
up and you’re like cool let’s go right
you know it’s not I mean that’s that’s
one of those that’s just that’s a rare
thing you don’t see that very often and
and we have that in in Spades so yeah we
don’t have one guy that he’s got to be
the guy every single day every single
bat I mean it’s a whole lineup of guys
so even if even if jaay is batting 250
you know that’s nothing to you know
sniff at just because you know he’ll get
a walk you know he’ll find a hole and
and he’ll turn around like you said
he’ll be hitting 300 in no time yeah so
Nick if you can pull up the standings
again and just kind of help set the
table for for this Vanderbilt series
because you got a top five showdown in
in the SEC you got a team in Vanderbilt
who’s been there done that and they
return players all the time and they
they they know what they’re doing you’ve
got an A&M team that oh no standy all
right but here we go um number three A&M
number six Vanderbilt so we have the the
breakdown of this game very evenly
matched uh you get them at home and you
got your Ace
tomorrow I’ll let you start it off yeah
I mean so to me like every game every
day stands you know on its own right so
it’s easy to you know see these numbers
and see the rankings and get kind of
panicked about this is the most
important series of the year and this
and that but I mean the guys just have
to go play you know they have to today
they have to worry about practice they
have to worry about you know their
conditioning and all that other stuff
and just get ready to play tomorrow
tomorrow they worry about the game you
know they can’t get too you know wound
up about you know these numbers they
just need to go play win your home
series Matt yeah you got to win the Home
Series um um I’d love a sweep I’m not
asking for all that hey I called a sweep
last week and I I got close I got close
um but uh yeah you win this series it’s
definitely at home I mean it is the next
it’s the most important series because
it’s the next I mean we still have
Arkansas LSU Alabama coming um but uh
right now this this will this will tell
us quite a bit so there you go Vandy
Alabama Georgia at LSU at Old Miss then
you host number one at least right now
number one Arkansas that’s going to be a
ball and by the way I don’t know if you
know this they they got a pretty good
pitching staff over there oh they do all
right let’s hit a break here we’ve got
some some breaking news in the college
basketball world that we can touch on a
little bit Scott drew is saying no
thanks to Kentucky he’s turning it down
so we saw him last night we we saw a
lookalike last night we saw a guy in a
bayor top and uh over the Green Top told
take it well he he did say he wasn’t
going to respond so we we’ll uh we’ll
talk about that we’ll talk a little bit
about some football stuff that came out
of Mike elko’s press conference that and
more you’re listening to texags radio

on their way gentlemen we had a coach
Elco press conference yesterday we’ve
got the spring game coming up here next
Saturday not this Saturday uh how much
Intrigue worry excitement when it comes
to the quarterback position under this
new regime Philip start us off oh I mean
I think the simpler offense is going to
help you know offensive scheme is going
to be a good thing I mean from
everything I can tell right watching
watching y’all talk to him or whatever
is that you know he’s a sharp guy right
so he’ll learn whatever he needs to
learn um I mean my biggest thing is I
just hope he’s plays the whole season
right and that our offensive line gives
him that opportunity to show us what he
can do for an entire season and see just
how far we can really go you know with a
top-notch quarterback it it I I’ve I’ve
considered this too because the he
doesn’t seem he’s still not healthy the
angle’s still not healthy and it just
goes back on man what happened to it I
know that they don’t talk about it right
right I mean but uh uh uh I know he’s
touched on it here with Billy when
they’ve had their talks here in in the
studio but um but yeah it is it’s a
little concerning that that that that
ankle’s I mean it’s been what nine
months yeah but I think s what we think
of healthy and what an athlete thinks of
healthy are two different things right
like when do you have the confidence to
go out and run and make the spectacular
plays that you you can like to me
there’s different phases you know people
come back from knee injuries they’re
healthy but they don’t have the
confidence they don’t have the strength
to do what they’re normally doing and I
think it’s all part of the process
pushing off and and and I mean
especially quarterback the footwork that
he’s going to need um you know that sort
of thing but I mean it gives me just a
little bit of pause but I mean at the
same time I I agree I think I think a
simplified offense is going to is going
to do should do wonders I mean um
especially for the receiving core I know
that they had like in in in Jimbo’s
offense there was all sorts of crazy
different things they’re supposed to do
so I’m I’m I’m looking forward to the
spring game to see what they just see a
little touch taste of it and you know
the simplification that you mentioned
there to me is going to go such a long
way because the offensive line maybe
doesn’t have to think as much the
quarterback doesn’t have to do math
problems the wide receivers have a and
what that’ll do for an uptempo offense
when they want to go uptempo to me could
be the difference I do want to ask you
guys and I’ll start off with you Matt
position groups and next week with the
spring game coming we we’ll definitely
break down these groups a little bit
more but what’s what’s the group that
you have your eyes on well the dine it’s
always for me it’s dline I mean because
you’ve got we’ve got a lot of turnover
there but you also have an a ton of
talent still in the still in the
building when you got DJ Hicks you got
uh Brown Lindy coming back in you”ve
got uh uh um uh some good Edge guys some
of the transfer the transfer portal guys
the kid what’s the kid’s name from
Purdue um just that just transferred in
um I’m forgetting his name I can’t I
can’t sorry sorry if you’re listening
but uh the uh uh so no dline is dline is
is is oh ni you talking about defensive
line Nick sorry sorry yeah sorry I was
thinking another position so uh so
that’s what that’s that’s the position
group that I’m constantly keeping ey on
because that’s I think I think from on
the defensive side of the ball in the
SEC especially that’s probably the most
important position yesterday El’s
talking about scorton and like you know
why he didn’t offer him when he was at
Brian high and that was part of elco’s
kind of rotation one of the schools he
would visit and he’s like he just didn’t
have we he his body type wasn’t you know
translating to what we thought an SEC
body would be and he goes credit to Nick
he worked on his body he got bigger he
got stronger he got faster and look at
him now like he is you know he he led
the Big 10 in Sachs he comes here he’s
going to carve his way into the NFL for
sure with with the trajectory yeah yeah
I unfortunately to Echo what I just said
to me it’s still the offensive line you
know we just got to see these guys
protect the quarterback for a year
because it’s been what three or four
years since we’ve had a quarterback play
an entire season uh like the defense is
always good I mean they’re always you
know going to hold up I think and it’s
just going to be that guy that can
protect the those guys that can protect
the quarterback you know have some
opportunities downfield and and and
establish a run game as always yeah the
Run game’s big because I mean we did not
run the ball well last year last year so
getting those holes open for for some
you know guy like Ruben Owens who’s a
stud uh Le’Veon Moss who’s a stud just
get give them give them some room and
see what they can do see for me and just
to be different because I think it’s
always about the offensive line that’s
the the the success story for a Jimbo
Fisher Le team I think any team right it
starts with the trenches so I understand
your defensive line I get the
quarterback I get all that but to be
different
secondary where you’re going I figured
that’s where you’re going yeah just
because
turn around like they didn’t turn around
they were thrown on all game long right
like Miami threw for everybody threw on
them right get some new pieces in there
get some different philosophy back there
you have Coach Elko leading the defense
let’s be honest like he and Coach
baitman are going to work together and
make an awesome defense yeah if the
secondary is up the par and you get
better offensive line then yeah those
close games that A&M keeps losing they
start winning it’s true that’s true I
like it y um quickly thoughts on Scott
drew saying no to uh Kentucky staying at
Baylor the basketball Powerhouse I just
like like I said when we were off there
I was like just I wonder if what would
have happened if Billy Clyde hadn’t done
the same if he’ had turned down Kentucky
all those years ago where would we be
who knows we’d be Baylor with a national
championship a statue for Billy Clyde
there’d be a statue somewhere yeah I
don’t know how big it’d be but there’d
be one I guess you know why would he’s
in a good spot for him obviously and so
why would you go try to follow caliper I
whoever it’s going to be somebody that’s
going to just they need a big notch on
their belt you know Resume Builder they
need somebody who hasn’t won a national
championship yep good job philli
appreciate it you enjoy it absolutely
yeah it’s good time brownie excellent
work as always we didn’t get any hate
mail today oh well good not yet it’ll
well it’ll get a Wii off well it
trickles in late sometimes all right
gentlemen thank you very much tomorrow
on the program the baseball Bunch Scott
Clint dennon is going to be here
obviously we’ll have JB moss in studio
as well Ryan Broner we’ll have Richard
Zayn we’ll have Billy Luchi we have ol
Buchanan thanks to all of you who have
been listening today and watching
wherever you’re watching from we will
catch up with you
