It’s certainly not going to be me so boys UFC Vegas 8 9 our main event we’re going to start there because it’s the main event I don’t think it’s the biggest talking point coming out of this card frankly but let’s start at the top Rose dunas wins a unanimous decision

Over Amanda heas five rounds very competitive fight uh certainly heos staged a strong comeback I know Casey scored the bout for heas in the end uh so let’s start here AK I think we all agree this isn’t a robbery but who did you score the fight for yeah I had a

Narrow 48 47 for Rose I don’t I don’t say that score with like the utmost confidence I I didn’t even think the 49 46s were bad I guess uh I I I I assume the scorecards are out there 49 46 would have to be one two four and five rows

Right because I think round three is when we all thought like heus kind of started to turn things around uh I’ll look oh the cards are up right now yes okay so it’s it’s all 109 was the H sorry third round 10 n was the only one

That they all gave to heas um so yes uh the other two judges who gave 49 46 uh four rounds for rows one two four and five I don’t think that’s crazy I thought four was pretty clear heus but maybe I’m out to lunch maybe I’m out to

Lunch on that one either way I did have Rose winning uh the grappling was effective there was effective grappling she did damage in the ground you would have liked seen more on the feet especially since uh heus landed a lot of clean shots in all five rounds too uh

But yeah I have I have no problem with that I I think n jun’s striking was on point I think some of the on screen numbers might have messed with people Jen I know we were talking in the slack about uh there was like a huge Advantage

For heus in round five people look the onscreen significant strike numbers it was like 30 to 11 or something and I’m like I don’t see 30 significant strikes for heus and only 11 for namajunas so I would always caution people on screen uh definitely the on screen live scoring uh

Excuse me strike tally is not to be taken as law and and even after they tabulate even after to get the proper UFC stats.com significant strike stats that does not necess tell the story of a fight because a significant strike can range from a a light jab to like a a

Cracking Haymaker right those are both significant strikes there just you know so that doesn’t just it just doesn’t tell the story you have to watch the fight so I thought all the rounds were pretty close I would have lik seen uh Rose do have more impactful attacks on

The ground again but I thought she did enough on the ground to take the rounds where uh she closed out uh like you know the last couple of minutes by being on top I think that left a good impression on the judges and I I have no problem

With the with the scores I I went 408 47 though that’s what I also scored it um to your point though AK we were talking I was very surprised by those numbers in the fifth round just because it wasn’t reflective of what I was seeing but dude

If you want to score I thought the first three rounds are pretty clear you know two two for Rose one for heos anything else you want to score after that I don’t have any issues with it uh I was surprised two 49 46s but again not bad scorecard

Just not what I had Rick how did you feel about the main event how and most importantly how did you score do you think Rose is the rightful winner yeah I had Rose 4946 but you know there were some close rounds in there I I I think to your

Point like honestly even like round two and and it seems like one of the judges scored for heus I thought could have gone he’s way so they were close but I ultimately gave I had the same scorecard as the two judges that scored at 4946 um how did I feel feel about it

Like uneventful uninspiring um if you’re Rose Nami unas and and you’re trying to make a splash at flyweight and enter this new division now with a with a win uh you know after dropping your flyweight debut like not not thrilled with it didn’t think it was that great

Um also heas is kind of a strawweight as well like maybe you know at this point we can kind of definitively say um they can float between strawweight and flyweight but like just not not inspiring is kind of my biggest takeaway I want to touch back on that

With the uak but I did pull up the stats from UFC stats.com uh they should stop showing stats real time because UFC stats now UFC stats now has the fifth round as 25 uh to 24 significant strike in favor of Rose which is in no way what

Was on the screen at all for that fifth so if if there there’s that big a golf between what they’re settling on uh that’s that’s really bad because it was like oh heos is outlanding her by a considerable amount mathematically which I like I said I didn’t think was true

And sort of my vision of it ended up playing out heus landed 28% of her significant strike attempts in the fifth round uh 24 of 85 so took them a while to tabulate but there we goes so the point being close competitive fight if heos had won it wouldn’t have been awful

Rose getting 49 46 is okay but AK I want to Circle back to to what Eric said at the end there about this you know the floating between weight classes sort of where we’re at for Rose in her career this being a bit underwhelming considering Who Rose is as at least to

Our perception of Rose the star the former Champion is uh how does this fight sit with you for Rose’s future ostensibly at flyweight she’s kind of repeated the line she’s not going back down in her post-fight interview she talked about feeling stronger up here because she put on the weight uh for

This fight but that she also felt slower so what are you taking away for Rose as a as a flyweight Contender I guess well before I I give my opinion we should definitely uh let people know that they can share their opinion and a poll that

I threw up on the YouTube is Rose naaj junis a contender at 125 pounds after her win at UC Vegas 89 already within like 5 minutes we’ve got almost 300 votes uh pretty firly no pretty firmly no 59% wow and yeah and I think I was

Kind of leaning that way uh even when we were doing the preview show I think I said something to the effect of even if Rose like Wows us on Saturday and takes out amandah heas I don’t know if what that means for her as far as being a flyweight Contender because again Amanda

Is a is a good fighter who bounces between two weight classes uh if we think size is going to be an issue for Rose as as I think it did matter in the Mano fight a little bit I mean man was considerably bigger uh th this win

Tonight does not really remedy that in any way because again Amanda is uh is just a strawweight who doesn’t cut weight when she fights a 125 I think that’s what Rose is too so I I quite enjoyed the fight and and I was glad to

See Rose get a win this was her first win in I want to say two and a half years um most of that due to inactivity of course it’s not like she’s been on some crazy ass losing streak uh but yeah it’s it has been a while since we’ve

Seen Rose seen her hand rais and we consider how fast the sport moves that’s like two and a half years it’s like a lifetime ago um so it’s encouraging you know it’s encouraging I think she still has it she her skills are still clearly there she’s still one of the most

Well-rounded fighters in either division but I I would not pick her to beat Aaron blanchfield again I would not pick her to win a manom rematch she kind of called for the winner of the Atlantic City is that the main event Atlantic City main event it is the main event yes

It is the main event yeah she kind of called for the winner of that fight and I don’t think Aaron should have to fight her I know Rose is considerably more famous uh is obviously more accomplished so far in her career but it just feels like Aaron blanchfield has already done

Enough to earn a title fight and uh and if she takes care of my no having a fight again would just be straight up absurd so uh I don’t know where Rose goes I think she could have a lot of fun fights at 125 and I support her not

Wanting to cut weight down to 115 it can’t be fun I I know I do think it’s her ideal weight class like I do think that’s where she fights the best but if she says she’s been suffering at that weight and it’s just not worth it considering how much she’s already

Accomplished there then I then I can’t be grud her as a fan of course I want to see her drop back down I want to see her fight Jang wayy again she’s already beaten her twice if Jang has a you know strings together another couple of title

Defenses why shouldn’t Rose go after her again right uh but again if that’s not the cards I totally understand maybe she’s just a fun fight at 125 but I don’t see her making a serious run uh for the title like even if she gets the title shot it would be based on name

Value I I just don’t see her having a super strong resume 125 Rick how do you feel do you think Rose nunis not even can win the title do you think she has the ability from what you’ve seen at her her flyweight at the moment to make a title

Run title run potentially I mean I just think that there’s opportunities where she can win a lot of the fights against the top flyweights but I do I I am starting to question what her level is and maybe this is this is going to feel pretty hindsight um but I’m just looking

At the resume in recent years I’m looking at the loss to Manon I’m looking at the loss to Esparza I’m looking at the split decision against Jan way Le which I scored for Jang way Le um and in either case you could you could slice that that

That was a close fight uh the head kick over jeang great win win over Jessica andrj he kind of got pieced up in the third round there like bad um then you go back to the loss to Jessica andrj and then you go back to

The win over Yana so like the run’s not been great if I’m being honest the run’s not been great I’m starting to I’m starting to wonder where Ros nunas is at whether it’s at strawweight or or flyweight if if I’m being honest that’s that’s where I’m at right now is like

Where is rosam unas because this performance didn’t tell me much and it didn’t Inspire um can she be a a potential contender in each division yeah because she’ll get the fights to be a contender in in either division um but I’m I’m less than impressed with with the recent history for rosam

Munas I feel that um like she’s still young but she’s got some mileage on her I think this is her 11th or 12th year of fighting which is a lot of years of fighting and I I like you guys I’ll say a little more firmly I don’t think she’s gonna be competitive

At 125 I think she can be competitive with a lot of people there um I just I think that it’s not a bad call out to call for the winner of Manon blanchfield just because the timeline at flyweight makes that fight maybe possible uh she can beat and she already

Lost to her but that she can win that fight at least theoretically I think blanchfield will just thump her and I also think blanchfield AK to to run counter to you I think blanchfield might just choose to take the fight because she wants to fight and she knows that

With shevchenko uh and grao holding up the division Forever at this point in time uh if she waits for her title shot she’s going to be waiting until at best December much more likely 2025 so interesting times at at flyweight and women’s flyweight and frankly we don’t

Talk about the thing of the evening on the prelims a thing happened boys and I gotta tell you I’ve been covering the sport professionally for almost a decade I’ve been following this sport for close to 30 years like 25 years I think of of fandom and uh this isn’t some stuff I’ve

Seen in the modern MMA game in a preim bout uh between undefeated prospects the second fight of the evening Andre Lima takes on eigor sevino it’s a super fun fight back and forth Affair lots of stuff happening it was electric and then in the middle of a

A weird clinched position uh LMA starts kind of gesturing to referee Chris tyon I believe it was Chris tone I’m not 100% but I’m pretty sure tyon does a bad job of stopping the fight he just says stop the action and doesn’t touch anybody and then is finally like okay stop and gets

In stops and trying to figure out what happens and what had happened was Igor sevino bit Andre Lima on the left bicep hard apparently based on the bite marks that were then very visible after this immediately dced it’s a bunch of weirdness and I I’m not 100% but I do

Think that this is the first DQ via biting in UFC history so that’s now a thing fellas and Rick I just want to toss this to you right out of the gate uh what just happened and and why did it happen and where do we go

From here why did it happen I cannot answer for you I have no idea why in the middle of a comp ative fight um he decided to bite his opponent um could not tell you just got zero idea I you know what I my the best estimation of

Why is maybe he thought he could get away with it like everything else you you foul and you foul and you foul and most of the time you do get away with it he tried and this time he got caught with his hand in the cookie jar or his

Teeth on the arm whatever you know you want to say his teeth in the cookie jar he made too much of an impression like literally in his arm he made too much of an impression to the point where it’s undeniable how how badly he fouled um

His opponent but I just like for me the story is just Lima like this dude has taken and run with this opportunity and become like a guy like in the course of a few hours Dana White’s you know talking about how much he loves him he

Got the tattoo of the of the bite impression let’s let’s explain that let’s explain that right because what what happened is immediately after the fight Dana White sees Lima backstage Dana White is in attendance at an apex which is not always the case but for whatever reason he was this week uh sees

Lima backstage and comes up and and tells him we hear this uh from gar Cruz our own told us that Lima’s uh agent or coach manager one of them uh talked to him and said that Dana what was like Hey I’m gonna give you the first ever you got bit

Bonus uh hour and a half later whatever that timeline is Lima goes out gets the bite the bite mark tattooed with you got bit bonus over it Dana White puts it on his Instagram says it was going to give him 20K now I’m giving him 50k and Andre

Limo who is a hot shot Prospect frankly a guy who has super high on this Contender series takes one of the weirder moments in history uh in recent UFC history and turns it into an unmitigated win across the board for him I just wanted to get that out in case

People are watching or listening to this later and don’t know what we’re talking about but you’re right Rick he took this opportunity grabbed with both hands he’s running with it yeah yeah they we just saw the UFC socials tweet out uh the bite of the

Night it is official uh we have all all the bonuses are official by the way so we can talk about that in a second but yes they made an extra graphic just there it is there’s the bite of the night Andre Lima that’s tremendous I hope I hope Fighters are aware that he

Is the one who was bitten and this does not encourage them to try and get a bite of the night bonus going forward you have to get bitten guys not be the biter I’m pretty sure uh the only thing that eigor sevino got tonight was a pink slip

Not any sort of uh flight night bonus so uh yeah this was strange uh Jed you were asking before like uh if this has ever happened in UFC history no no I had to go back I remembered a similar incident on The Ultimate Fighter this was the uh very little watched Ultimate Fighter

16 uh Team Shane Carwin versus Team uh Roy Nelson and it was where is his name it just John Manley choked out James Cheney but James Cheney uh tried to bite his way out of the choke and later admitted to it he later admitted yep yep

I tried to bite him so there wasn’t much controversy because he sub he got submitted anyway uh but yes that’s the last time I can think of a UFC even you know tential fight having someone so blatantly bite someone else it was I’m glad we can all laugh about

It I’m glad that Lio wasn’t H it was kind of a freaky moment man and for srino I know we’re all crapping on him and rightfully so like that’s a disgusting thing we joke all the time that people should cheat well somewhat joke somewhat serious that people should cheat but biting someone that’s

Definitely crossing a line I think we can all agree some people are like oh there’s no like I saw a few reactions like oh there’s no warning and it’s like yeah there’s no warning you’re just disqualified this isn’t this isn’t a glancing low blow accidental fingers in

The eye this is this is not gamesmanship this is a guy biting on a dude I’m not even entirely sure why like it was just such a it was such a weird he wasn’t like getting crushed in the fight or anything it was deeply weird it was a

Deeply weird bite because toe Point AK you and and I Casey we were talking about this uh before the show Casey did not see it in real time so he assumed like you would uh that the man was trying to bite his way out of a choke

Because we’ve like you said we have seen that uh Michael Chandler was famously accused biting Dustin porier or or Michael Chandler was accused of fish hooking porier and then poier was like so I bit him which is it’s incredible thing like yeah has fingers with my

Mouth so I just chomped on him but that’s very different this was a functionally neutral position and his head is just kind of buried in the arm and you can’t to be to be absolutely clear you can never see the bite happen because of the camera angles but it is

Incontrovertible that it did and and it’s just an unbelievable story guys like Rick did you wake up thinking today’s the day we’re finally gonna get a bite in the UFC too long I was hoping I was hoping that uh today would be the day uh no certainly not and um I think

It caught us all off guard I don’t think most people knew what the break in action was when it was first occurring like uh uh you know I thought may it was yeah I thought maybe it was something to grabbing a fence or or a low blow or

Something to that effect and then we take a pause and credit to to referee Chris donon who like took the pause figured out what’s going on calls in the Commissioners figures out like what the proper protocol is here they see the replay they see they kind of see that

There’s some kind of bite going on he shows the impression on his arm and it and it’s a wrap so thought it was handled quite well um once it was clear what was going on and uh yeah there’s there’s no warning for biting your opponent I I think that I think we can

Mostly all agree uh that that’s an automatic DQ but it sounds like ak’s found some uh Savage individuals who there were a couple AK is not alone there were a couple because I immediately tweeted out a criticism of Brendan Fitzgerald who I I like I like Brendan personally and I also think that

He is good at his job but he is he was on the call and was like they didn’t even give him a warning like they’re just going straight to the DQ and then even after Paul Felder was like no Duty bit him he was like yeah but like

There’s been similar stuff and like you would just think that they would do this and it’s like no this is the most clear and obvious DQ of all time and I tweeted that out and I had some people in the mentions being like no like it would

Have been fine let him go on like it’s just because he bit him and he didn’t like cut him open does not mean this works guys so uh easily the second most electric thing that happened this evening or the most electric thing eigor

I just want to add eigor I was I was uh I meant say this for eigor is only 20 years old he’s a young man now by the time you’re 20 you should be learning not to bite people uh but I’ve never been a 20-year-old person you should be

Learning not to bite people by the time you’re two I was literally hanging out this is true certainly that was that was on the things we talked about was fighting when I was with a two-year-old earlier today and his parents certainly by 20 you should but again I’ve never

Been a 20-year-old in a cage fight he just you know maybe he just lost his sense he lost his s you have to be a little crazy to even become a professional fighter so he might just went a little bit further over the edge and bit but I think the release is

Justified it’s just not a thing that you want your uh contracted fighters to be doing and uh he could still get his way back just behave well for the next couple years he could get his way back he’s an exciting fighter he’s a talented guy I just hope I’ll be keeping an eye

Dana White made some statements to I think Kevin ioli about you know obviously we had to let go of him and he’s going to be dealing with a lot more issues because the Comm commissions are going to get involved and I would be shocked if he is not fined um you know

It’s it’s it’s not a great scene maybe he does overcome this and this becomes a weird thing because hey guys Mike Tyson famously bit a dude’s ear off and now he’s beloved in fighting Jake Paul 30 years later so everyone loves a comeback story eager srino you get yours and

Teaming up with that person to sell like products about biting so like yeah who knows and Andre and eigor could uh be working on something here well there’s there’s always a Time speaking of great comebacks uh we’re not going to talk about the penultimate fight because no one wants to talk about

Carl Williams who did be Justin tafa via unanimous decision in a heavyweight heavyweight fight uh but there was a very cool comeback right before that in the Edmund shabazi and taking on AJ Dobson fight um we’re not going to go through all of the fights on the main

Car but this one and one other I do think Merit talking about and it’s let let’s go to shabazi and AK uh we talked offline you know you were on the preview show yesterday sort of mixed bag around people’s views on where shabazian is as a prospect he’s still young but his

Defeats have been so tough and it looked like he was doing that against Dobson Dobson came out jawed him with a great right hand but he worked he managed to survive and then kind of Tagg doson with a very weird left hook and smell blood in the water and finish the drill really

Solid comeback for a first round win for shabazian how how do you take this performance sort of give me your thoughts on on this fight there’s never been any questions about shabazian like striking offense we he is blessed with knockout power okay he’s one of the few people to knock out

Brad tarez and Brad tarez has fought in the UFC like 20s something times and I think he’s been knocked out maybe twice or if that and shabazian won it was a great knockout too um so his offense has never been a question it’s it’s the it’s the grappling defense specifically but

Uh certainly early in this fight I was worried about just his defense in general just his chin just just has this guy already taken too much damage less than 10 years into a pro fighting career because he’s he’s those losses he had he’s none of them were like flash Kos

They were prolong like he got taken down he got he kind of gassed out a little bit and he took like poundings like those those are his Lo his losses in the UFC are ugly and memorable for the wrong reasons and I I was worried that uh when

To when Dobson like cracked him I was like oh man like maybe this is just who he is now like he’s just a guy who cannot take damage anymore even at only 26 years old it sounds crazy to say but when you’re when you’re thrown to the

UFC so early so I’m seeing he made his debut he was so he was like 20 21 21 when he made his uh his UFC debut hence the Golden Boy uh once you get on that UFC clock man it is hard to uh to get recalibrated you know what

I mean because suddenly you’re fighting like a guy like Derek Brunson you know you’re fighting Jack Hermanson nass OV these are like three straight losses he had and clearly clearly they’re not just a notch above Edmund they are several notches above Edmond it was too early

For him to fight those guys but again you’re in the UFC you’ve picked up some big wins the matchmakers really have no choice uh at least as far as promoting you to to kind of keep sending you upwards so Dobson was the right opponent for him right I feel like we’ve got him

Back to where we think he should be if he had lost this fight I honestly don’t know what direction his career would have gone it it’s I saw people asking at 26 with this is he cooked is he cooked to 26 he lose to AJ Dobson uh clearly

Not again he won uh but it’s weird in a way I feel like we still didn’t have any questions answered because he got hurt he came back and won with his striking which is what he always does um and there was some grappling invol actually that he initiated so we maybe learned a

Little but I think he’s still such a an unpredictable fighter at least in these situations and I still think if he faces anyone with grappling the in the middleweight division it’s not going to go his way so great win prolonged his UFC career as it were I have no idea if

This should convince anyone that he’s uh he’s gonna you know reach those lofty Heights that he was once expected to to reach Jed you are muted sir whoops uh Rick any thoughts on shasan before we move to bonuses because bonuses have dropped so uh if you have

Anything about edmin drop it because I doubt we’ll be talking about it much after this no feel pretty similar to AK like you know kind of a stay of execution like didn’t didn’t really like put the the co the nail in the coffin nor did it make me think like wow this

Is a new wrinkle for Edmund’s game like it was it was just kind of NE on to the next um but yeah I mean incredible comeback like bonus deserving as we’re about to get into bonuses St of execution is a fantastic way to put it because they they had him

Walk up the stairs his head was in the guillotine and then just popped it out at the last minute terrific stuff we got bonuses boys uh have either of you seen them I have okay then AK you’re out of this Rick I’m not would you care to take

A guess at what our bonuses this evening were can you just give me do we have only performances or do we have a fight of the we have a fight of the night okay um shabazian uh performance incorrect okay tough scenes for him too but Incorrect and I don’t think it’s wrong

Either all right um Payton tbit performance that is absolutely correct um wait let me try to do fight of the night what do we got here what do we got here if you just look at the card you should be able to determine fight of the night
