Padres haven’t done NEARLY enough since trading Juan Soto to Yankees

Padres fans were sold that the team was creating roster flexibility by making this move but they haven’t come close to using the Soto money up yet

Remember what the Padres were selling to us Padres fans back in December winter meetings time when they traded wotto and Trent Grisham to the New York Yankees they were selling us the talent that they got back which I’m high on but also what we were being sold was that they were going to

Reinvest that money that they saved from that sto deal around $30 million they were going to put that back into this year’s major league roster that’s what we thought you looked at the payroll and it was like yeah they’re not going to be able to build a complete team if Juan

Soda is making 30 plus million do and then Trent Grisham as well so that’s what around $38 million that they were going to make yeah that’s going to be hard to build a complete baseball team with Juan stto especially on this roster so it made sense I was understanding of them trading Juan

Sto but you fast forward a few months and it’s March 9th now and what have the Padres done since then have they found a left fielder jerks and profar for $1 million they don’t even want jerks and profar to be the starting left fielder every day right they want him to be a

Bench guy minor league signings Tim La Castro Oscar Marcato Cal Mitchell that is not a major league deal there there’s there’s reasons why those guys are minor league deals Jose zokar already on the roster okay Jackson Merill like that’s a positive development this spring training Jacob Marcy as well but there’s

Qu there’s question marks if those guys are ready for the big leagues from day one opening day so the hole that was created trading SoDo hasn’t been filled the hole created by trading Trent Grisham filled by Jackson Merill but like I’m on him but we’ll see what he

Ends up being it was filled by a short stop going and playing and transitioning into being a center fielder at least as of now he’s the starting center fielder on opening day they needed first Bas DH bat they haven’t gotten that now Brandon Belt he’s still out there Tommy fam is

Still out there but the Padres I don’t know if they passed on these guys maybe these guys just wanted to go somewhere else but the Padres did not sign any result and he goes on a cheap deal to the Washington Nationals they don’t sign David Peralta goes on a minor league

Deal to the Chicago Cubs they don’t sign Joey vad he signs a cheap deal couple million dollars right with the Toronto Blue Jays and he’s going to be starting the year in spring in uh in tripa ball I believe with the blue jays and earn his

Way onto a roster they could have signed those players they chose not to starting pitching wise with the rotation I like what I’ve seen seen out of some of the young guys I like what I’ve seen out of Matt walren this spring but will that continue right we think that I think a

Lot of Padre’s fans think that we could use another starting pitcher haven’t added that and what had they done since that sto deal they traded Carpenter and Ray cerr remember Ray cerr was a valuable Lefty don’t have him anymore because they had to dump the carpenter

Contract find a way to do that and they got back a minor leager that I think a lot of the fan base doesn’t even know the name of Mr Campbell I believe they signed Yuki Matsui okay five years $28 million signed Wu go okay two years $4 a half

Million signed Wy Peralta okay four years 16 and a half mil there’s opt there’s player options opt outs and those obviously because AJ loves doing that and then jerks and profar one year $1 million there’s other moves that they have made but those are the major league signings like major league guaranteed

Roster spot to those guys they needed some arms right you’re you’re losing Nick Martinez Josh hater there’s guys that Ray Cur you add to that because you traded him right you’re losing guys in that Bullpen and then you add on top of that someone or Scott Barlo I know they

Got de los Santos so that kind of cancels it out but you add on top of that Lugo Waka Snell and sure they got back arms that could be rotation arms Michael King I like it but that’s not Blake no neither is Randy Vasquez or Johnny

Breedo or Matt Waldren or Pedro Avila or anyone they’re going to bring in here and obviously there’s a lot writing on the health of Musgrove and darish they’ looked good at times this spring and so I’m I’m uh positively thinking about how they’re doing right now trying

To be optimistic about that but we were sold Padre’s fans and tell me if I’m wrong but we were sold that they were going to trade SoDo to create more flexibility to go spend that money on other parts of the roster and since that trade they have not done that nearly

Enough they still need Outfield help they didn’t get that on a Major League signing other than jerks and profar who they probably would rather have be a versal bench guy not the starting left fielder they didn’t go get a center fielder Michael Taylor is still out

There Tommy fam is still out there for outfield Adam Duvall so I’m not saying that they won’t go do this but they have’t it’s March 9th that plane leaves next week March 13th so it’s getting close here they could go get Brandon Belt but there’s guys on cheap deals

That they could have done and they decided not to and so the $30 million around that that they saved 9.35 million total 2024 money spent on Major League signings no starting pitcher no left fielder no first base DH bat that’s 20 plus million dollars of room that they have that they have not

Used and so they can do that but as of now I’m disappointed in what this Padre’s front office has done or has not done this team we’re not the Los Angeles Dodgers we’re not the Atlanta Braves you can say oh no good roster I like some of the pieces on the

Roster but the Padre’s could use more and what this looks like to I think some fans is ownership oh they’re pocketing the money they said yeah we trade stto we’ll make it sound good to the fan base yeah you know we’ll we’ll put that back that money back in the roster we wanted

More flexibility we’ll spend that money on different positions well they haven’t done that and it’s March 9th they haven’t done that and they raised season ticket prices so piss off some of the fan base there right didn’t make the postseason last year you’re losing Blake Snell Josh

Haer Juan SoDo Trent Grisham pretty good defensive center fielder I know he wasn’t great hitting wise but pretty valuable piece defensively Waka Lugo Martinez Scott Barlo Tim Hill Gary Sanchez Garrick Cooper I could go down the line here like there’s some positive things that have happened this

Off season but it’s been a disappointing offseason and we’re in spring training and they’re about to leave for South Korea and they have not came through on what we thought was their promise I thought correct me if I’m wrong Padre’s fans but we were being sold that they

Were going to put that money the soda money back into this roster and they have not done that simple as that they have not done that they’ve put like a third of the money back into the roster so there’s still time to go add Major League talent but right now they

Haven’t done a good enough job no way

  1. In a few more years we are gonna look back at the 2023 roster and wonder how we choked it away. 2024 is gonna be the year of the journeyman—filling gaps to get by

  2. New ownership
    New CEO

When the CEO said, "We are content with the players we have," it should have been a HUGE clue that the padres are ok with going with the kids. In the rotation and on the field.

Everyone is assuming profar is a bench player, but is that what the padres are thinking? I can see Marsee, Merrill, and Tatis as our starting OF in 2024 (with Azocar, Profar, Mitchell on the bench).

It's only disappointing because a lot of fans had expectations that the front office would do something, lol. Why do fans keep believing what they say… I have no clue 🤷‍♂️.

    Actions > Words

  3. Here we go, like every company when a new CEO comes into a company that was running great he f** it up. These two idiots pictured in here, and they ate idiots, they don't care about the Padres. They don't care about baseball they care about money Revenue that's it.

  4. You are wrong. They got rid of Soto, not to get others, but to dump salary from $250 to $200. I believe you said it yourself. Simple math.

  5. The answer is Seidler wanted a ship for the city of San Diego. The new management are here to make money.

  6. Are you just NOW coming to this realization? The handwriting has been on the wall for some time now, No one asking for more than 1 million a season need apply. You can call it a lie or a bait and switch, but you certainly cannot call it an attempt to be just as competitive in any way. They sold us a bill of goods and this is looking more and more like the San Diego Padres we have all grown to mistrust. The young fell for it and the older people have seen this movie before. I don't know how many times some of us have to say it but this is a rebuild season. They have absolutely no intention of paying more than 1 million dollars to anyone new coming here. It's going to be up to the young prospects to carry the water, ready or not. The three new starters added to this staff we're not starters before and please don't anyone expect more than three or four Innings from them until the All-Star break. Start saying prayers for this bullpen. This is now a roster of aging multi-millionaires and young unproven Talent with a few aged veterans sprinkled around who don't cost much. Padres fan should start realizing that and the Padres should be honest about what direction this team is going, but that appears to be asking too much from this organization.

  7. They need a TV Deal. To my understanding, it sounds like they don't have the television revenue because they don't have an RSN in place.

  8. Ben I’ve been telling you this for months now. Welcome to reality. AJ Tingler Preller screwed this franchise and he needs to go yesterday. And if you think these cuts are temporary to reset the CBT we have an island 🏝 in Kansas to sell you.

  9. If they sign somebody, they won't have enough money for the flights to Korea. They'll only fly 8. They need to do a pizza fundraiser to get the 9th player on the flight.

  10. "We" not "us" AGAIN NO San Diego Professional sports team, PAST OR Present!! Have ever been successful with a GM named AJ!!

  11. I know AJ didn't get us a new toy, but here's some optimism for those that are open to positive vibes.

  12. Every single commentator who is complaining about the Padres doing nothing is not looking at the reality of the situation. Snell, Soto, Grisham and Hader provided the club $70-80M in value last year. To think we'd simply sign guys to replace that value is idiotic. The only way to make up for that is for our established players to step up and have some rookies player average.

  13. If the team makes any moves at all, I think it will be just before the season begins – get someone for cheap that no one else has picked up, someone who has no other options

  14. No need to do anymore signings or big names the 2024 season, save that money to sign Kim next year when he becomes a free agent. I like the team we have this 2024. Some hungry dogs wanting to win. Padres winning the NL west. LFGSD

  15. There was no chance Votto was going to the Pobres. He was retiring a Red. The only reason he went to Toronto was because it’s his hometown. Votto doesn’t want a brown stain on his career. Respected veteran players are not signing with the Pobres. Nor is Preller spending the money for them. I don’t know why you don’t realize that.

  16. The SD Titanic is sinking and the leaders have already bailed, and fans like you are hanging onto the side rails waiting for the coast guard. The front office already gave up. You have replacement players on this team. There’s no plan B. They’re just hyping up the train to get your butts in the seats. You think Go was a great player in Korea? He’s a replacement player for HSK because the plan was to trade him and the Pobres needed representation in Korea to retain as many Korean fans they can before they became Dodgers fans. Look at your team! It’s spread soooo thin. No backups ahead. You think no one will get injured during the season? All of a sudden you think your team is invincible? Who will come up when players get injured? And here you are asking why didn’t Preller sign Peralta? Why didn’t the Pobres sign Votto? Star players sign, and then they are asked to move to a new position by using guilt trip. There’s no leader on this team. Look around! Look at the current situation of your team! No one wants to be part of it! Would you??!? 🤣

  17. Soto is living the NY life on a big market team crushing 447ft dingers to Dale Mabry Highway while the Angels tee'd off on Woo Suk Go like a minor league pitcher, & the Sadres are still playing like the under .500 team that they are 😂 might I add no Snell, Hader, Lugo, Martinez, Wacha or Grisham's defense in center field. Thinking this team will be more competitive is denial at its finest. Y'all had more talent in 2023 & still didn't make the wildcard lmao. You'll need all the prayers you can get in Korea🤣🍿

  18. Sorry, but you were the only one sold the lie and hype bud. You can check my receipts. I was against trading Soto, and knew once we did, this team was no longer gonna be going forward, and would begin to decline back into the team they've been for years. I'm also gonna say one thing that I know you won't like, but facts don't care about feelings. If Musgrove misses starts again this year, his contract will have been part of what set the team back. Not to mention he's getting his wish in being the ace of the team, even though it was handed to him pretty much. If he doesn't perform at ace levels, his contract is trash. Darvish on the other hand isn't our ace, but most of the same rules apply. If he misses a lot of starts this year, or does poorly, his contract is trash as well. Although I will say the massive difference between Musgroves, and Darvishs contracts is, Darvish got his because of his career and what he's done during it. Musgrove got his, because he's a local boy, so he got special preference on his contract, which should've been irrelevant. So Joe has far more to earn and prove.

Now, an even bigger problem you mentioned is the fact that we don't have a legit outfield, and who we do have won't be able to replace the defense of Grisham in CF. The outfield is my biggest worry. We have one guy that has been around, but they don't want him playing every day. We have another who while having a fairly good spring, is completely unproven, and may even be getting rushed into the majors, which can have an insanely negative effect and outcome on his entire career. Azocar is not exactly the every day starter either. He lacks power, consistency in hitting, and a strong arm. These main options we have for outfield, minus Tatis of course, can seriously hurt our team in moments that matter. Of course only time will tell, but on paper, it doesn't look great.

On a final note, I'm right there with you on being beyond pissed with this organization. Especially with AJ continuing to make all the wrong moves, or no moves at all. He is single handedly ruining this team, and setting them back for years. I can only hope his time here is running very low, and if the team is a major flop this year, he better be gone!
