Perhaps we’ll uh we’ll do that what are you up to these days um I’m living in just outside London in Kent uh working for a mate of mine who’s got an engineering company yeah and playing a bit of golf when I’m not injured do you

Get up here much to watch the town or not not really no come out last year once and watched um uh it was easy to get tickets then I mean can’t get a ticket now can you so and it’s funny cuz my my daughter was born here the day

That I left um um that she came out of a hospital we moved to Portsmouth and so she’s never been here so she’s coming up here she’s 38 fantastic brilliant so she they’re all coming up brilliant and have you got the grandchildren coming to the game yeah they’re coming up yeah yeah

Yeah they’re excited you pay for the tickets yeah at the pay yeah oh right no comps this time it’s not like you Kevin but there we are I know it’s broke it’s broke my heart don’t wor about that Grandad mode I what do you think of how they’re

Doing this season oh I think they’re doing amazing I’ve been watching quite a bit and uh yeah think he’s done a great job Shame about last week at Cardiff W it I I I turned it off thinking it was 1 nil was it 95th and the 100th minute

Think some of the players turned off as well I know I could not believe it but anyway I think they’ll get back on track tomorrow yeah we’ll talk about the game in detail in a moment or two but I mean it’s beyond all expectations this season

Isn’t it so whatever happens you know it is a season to remember isn’t it definitely I mean from getting the if they get in the playoffs they’re in the playoffs but uh yeah it’s a bonus and just to build on for next year they get

Up it’s going to be tough you know but you got to get there aren’t you yeah you have and we all think we’re going to get there don’t we say it with a bit more confidence yeah thank you I’m going for top two don’t forget don’t let me down

Don’t let me down uh what’s it like seeing these two boys again yeah it’s brilliant every time I see him we was over laugh and butcher W takes the Mickey out of me um was no change there tonight no no definitely no change there but no it’s great come up I love coming

To wh switch we all me and my wife um we love di switch we always said like would I packing football I’d come back but you know you’ve moved back to London you have kids and you’ve grow up around that area so but it’s always special to

Come up here and you’re back for the players reion dinner as well which is always a special night isn’t it yeah brilliant I love it so yeah it’s a special Club you know not many clubs do this uh you know I play for mil wall we got promotion best team they’ve ever

Read I think I’ve never ever been invited to a players though or a reunion you know it’s ridiculous but this club I mean that’s m is it for so for you so no but you inducted in the Hall of Fame 20 uh 2022 you remember that night yes I can

You took the m at me all night slaughtered you that night absolutely absolutely battered me yeah no it won’t be that bad tonight okay well it might be but it won’t be that bad but not to start with anyway so and it’s a relief for those who are getting inducted this

Week that you’re you’re not you’re unfortunately not there this week so uh you won’t be able to take the Mickey out of them you made one of them cry didn’t you well he wasn’t crying because of me no he was crying with a motion I think he’s a bit bit of a mix

Of both both yeah what was his name it was Gavin Johnson John Gavin Johnson came up and he was in tears coming onto the stage and tears on the stage and then te when he went off the stage he got pushed onto the stage he didn’t

Really want to go did he didn’t really want to go he couldn’t believe it and then we had David linan I asked him loads of questions and I got yes no maybe yes no as the answers it was arm this would you like to make your debut is all right right

Hard work and then you got up oh yeah yeah that was funny I think you on were you not on first and then the other two came along so we went from being right up there standard wise to right down there on camera I felt really bad I

Felt really bad after that cuz you sort of think well you know you started off really well with with Cali and then all of a sudden he just plummeted so that was funny yeah never mind you did your best well yeah I was like an old Pro I worked my heart

I worked my backside off yes were you going to say work your ass off then I think you were weren you I think you were I first one was that your finest Moment On Stage no not really I think my finest moment was falling off the stage wasn’t

It and where was that in Portugal at the Bobby Robson classic i’ I’d had one or too many to drink and uh you won it as well didn’t you I won it yeah and I sort of had a little bit of a tumble and knocked a shirt off the stage you fell

You fell backwards was is that me did you feel backward back s of felt backwards yeah right off the stage it was brilliant oops Yeah it was funny yeah yeah that was better than your birdie that you had on the on the course as well you’re a bit like d boy wouldn’t

You you just disappeared for a minute popped no I don’t think I disappeared I think the shirt disappeared it weren’t me more of this to come but let’s take a look at uh the season so far sponsored by the dove inp switch come on Phil bring us up to date I yes

We already said it haven’t we how did we lose that game honestly I mean you people switching off Cardiff fans were leaving in droves past me and um yeah 95th minute 100th minute incredible really it was just they didn’t really threaten at all Cardiff until uh time

Added on when they for some reason just put us under unrelenting pressure they wer in the game at all um we’d obviously gone ahead Keith for Mo lovely goal that was a superb goal was it was it was and and you thought well we’ll see this out

Cuz we’re so used to seeing us see games out now cuz we’re we are quite confident in that situation aren’t we we’re used to it and I think you as as you grow as a team you get used to that don’t you I think and um and yeah and really it was

Very uncharacteristic of us just to kind of um to sort of just sort of um um what’s the word Swit off no it it was just kind of let pressure get to us and you know I mean just just allow them to keep coming keep coming not find our way

Out I mean Kieran mck afterwards said that he made all his substitutions to try and try and get uh get the goal to get ahead and so he kind of had a more attacking side on the field than he probably would have wanted at that stage

To sort of see it out but I mean even so I think kind of you know there’s some very soft defending there and I think uh maybe they ran out of steam they’ve had a lot of away games in heavy conditions but yeah it was um yeah it was very

Frustrating it was a game we should have won W um and yeah we you know he’s one we could Ru ultimately at the end of the season well yeah it’s going to be Topsy Turvy isn’t it between all of the teams you know the top four I think we’re

Going to win going to lose going to draw it’s there’s still a lot of football still to play who went to Cardiff yeah a few of you went to Cardiff uh a silent trip home I think wasn’t it a bit of a shock um for us really what did you make of it

Russ well I was a little bit disappointed to say the least Mark um especially when you look at like the last goal we’ve got everybody back in the 18 yard box and they’ve got five blue shirts in there so we’ve got 11 against five and we didn’t deal with it

That’s just disappointing but things like that happen now and again and sport sport in general is has got a habit of kicking people up the backside when they least expect it whether you’re playing golf whether you’re whether you’re playing football and you know you know

You go up and the game is dead and suddenly you know it happened against his uh was it against n few years ago is that right oh they’re on fire tonight well done can I can I just you the yellow shirt is not a nor shirt is it it’s a

Proper Ipswich one just to clarify in case anybody’s watching it’s the old way one yeah oh the old way shirt yeah sorry Russ go on no you know things like that do happen in sport and sometimes you just have to hold your hand up and say all right it’s happened and you know

Let’s just move on and try and make sure it doesn’t happen again I think it it would have shocked one or two of the players Terry we’re going into an international break as well so so this coming weekend is very important yes it is and I think they got

The right team as well chefer wedley okay they’ve they’ve had a few victories lately but you know Portman Road has been a very strong base for the club and and for the team so I you know I can see I can see town just really you know not

Running right but doing very well it’s a sort of the game which which suits them and I think I think they will be hurt by that um I was driving down to to Oxford and it was one nil and I’m like wow it’s you know virtually virtually the last

Few minutes so I was quite happy that we that we I thought we’d won like you cell watching the television and that sort of thing and you and and I looked at the result I couldn’t believe it I thought how do we lose 2-1 but you but you do

We’ve won lots of games at the end of of the 90 minutes into added time as well so you got to take the rough with the smoth smoth but I think that makes you even more fired up so it’s important to get a win uh against Jeffer Wednesday

Then you can go into the break and the breaks always seem to have helped town you know they help other teams because they don’t play but it gives them a chance then to really you know think about what’s coming up um after that there’ll be eight games left so you know

Four at home four away tricky patch when you go you know sampton at home Norwich away and then you’ve got you got centry centry away and Hull away I think towards the end so you know games that you know if you don’t get obviously if you don’t you deserve to go up and

Finish second or first if you if you can beat these teams and I think I think they’ve got the ability to do that and the squad to do that as well it’s all still to play Sorry Phil it’s all still to play for G isn’t it you know the top

Three four sort battling it out there especially the top you know three at the moment I mean it’s so tight isn’t it yeah it’s very tight I’ve been there twice uh in that Division and it’s very nerve-wracking and it’s who can hold their bottle really you know at the end

Of it um you’re certainly holding your bottle all right down there well I would yeah that was the only bottle ever been good was that experience that did that you hold that bottle right you yeah no so who can who can play you know under pressure and as you said like

Last week it’s tough because they’re going into like 95 and 100th minute and if they’re the team that’s been going forward putting it in and you’re going to see a lot of games I mean most goals are scored we know don’t we between 80 and 90 when seems are getting tired uh

Yeah it was a tough one to take really I think after the break once everybody comes back after the international break what is it it’s going to be eight games that’s like going into the final furong you know he cheling them week and you know you can watch all the horses there

You know they get to that final furong and you know it’s it’s the the team that still got something left in the tank and you know I’m sure Squeaky bum time is it call it what you like Kev yeah that’s is squeaky BM time you know but that will

Last for a few weeks it’ll be game after game after game and you’ve got a hold of your nerve is is not the last game Phi is not the last game leads versus or Leicester versus Leeds or Le lead in Southampton leads and Southampton yeah

They play last game which is but I think think there’s a lot of pressure isn’t there don’t the pressure will grow as it goes on and um you’ll get some funny results won’t you particularly you look at the bottom of that table if you go winwin win I don’t think the pressure

Mounts then no no but I think I think lose lose pressure mounts yeah yeah but I think I think there will be games where cuz you look at the bottom of that table there’s a lot it’s incredibly close and and they’re everyone with the exception of rotheram are playing for

Something aren’t they so you can see them being some slightly kind of odd results here and there and and as you say like maybe leads or someone will lose a game and the pressure grows a little bit or ask you know it’s it’s

Going to be a bit up and down as it goes along I don’t think think how far ahead leester were at one point yeah I was just going to say lestera that back struggled a bit I know last few few weeks yeah well I think you you could

Have said I think people a few weeks ago were saying Leicester were all but promoted weren’t they and now you could probably look at leads perhaps being the favorites for the the teams at the bottom of the table will be trying just as hard as the teams at the top of the

Table yeah yeah yeah and it’s it’s fighting for your life fighting for promotion or fighting for your life but then it comes down to the Quality that you’ve got and the quality of your your mental strength as well as the physical strength and I think when you look at

Town you’d say they have the ability to put teams away into into score goals they do score goals lots of goals and they have got an experience of being promoted last year and I think that’s quite important isn’t it being a team that’s that knows how to to get over the

Line like if you go a racing analogy as well they’ve been over the course before sort of thing so and it was so and Tu was pretty good I was very pleased with watching Shel the day was you I was watching Shel day yeah it was so nip and

Tuck last season just like it is now isn’t it you know they were it’s the same kind of running for US isn’t it yeah yeah you doing your David L long as you don’t start crying yeah I won’t start crying not until you speak anyway anyway we’re all expectant of the

Weekend and we’ll make a lot of noise at Portman Ro that’s for sure how did you end up at Portman Roe then um well I I obviously signed for mil wall signed Apprentice for mil wall I could have ass signed for loads of clubs but I had a little feeling that

Um we were going Mills was going some mil wolf was going somewhere we ended up winning the fa youth Cup right for mol was massive and then from that time on there was loads of clubs coming in and me was skin and yeah Bob Robson come

Down one day and that was it really what was that like what was that conversation like did you know he was coming I knew he was coming yeah and um my manager it was funny cuz my manager said to me don’t worry I’ll sort out your contract

I’m going to get you this I’m going to get you that and he come out nearly crying Jo Jo it was he said jeles Jules bur is only on such and such and uh you can’t expect that you know you’re just a young player what I didn’t know and what

He didn’t tell us at the time is that George berley was running his contract down anyway um yeah that was it and I that we negotiated a few things and yeah I’ll come up what what did Bobby call you Brendan or not not Kevin uh I think it was Patty is it Patty

Yeah cuz there was a Brendan oal in that place yeah I play with him Stoke yeah I play with him for a republic yeah yeah he’s he’s he his initials Bo and he had bad Bo didn’t he remember we had to Mark him we had to Mark I to

Well I marked him he was a bigger and he stunk Bobby Robson on the sidelines get tighter putter get tighter I’m like no no no no if I’m going to get tighter please break my nose yeah bu hell stay down wind oh dear so so you arrive at

Portman Road what was that like uh um yeah I arrived at Portman Road remember you know um at the time didn’t really know obviously they just won the FA Cup so some big names yeah and didn’t really realize what I was getting into you know didn’t realize it was just on the crest

Of a there was just I been I signed in uh maybe December and I don’t think you lost a game till the end of the season that year didn’t you end up coming second or third no we lost a lot in the end in the end no what that year yeah

Did you but I remember yeah I remember no was that was that 79 7980 you went unbeaten that was second year yeah uh and third in the T you I remember making my debut at um Everton and Gates is scoring the best goal I’ve ever seen in me life two 312 top corner

So that was my away debut my home debut was next week against um Man United and what was that 61 60 6 yeah 6 so that was my two it’s not a bad start coming on I came on a sub I didn’t play yeah not a bad start 60 at home no

But I’m looking at this football thinking Jesus this is um it was amazing it was just like yeah how am I going to get into that team you know well he didn’t no never no that cruel Terry B cruel it was cruel but I’ll take you on

It I know you can take it knew what you were walking into tonight didn’t you yeah I did have splinters yeah yeah sitting on that bench too much but no I had the best seat in the house really to watch what they were doing it was just

Fantastic and it was just football you know with the Dutch boys and you know just it just on another level but when you did come on was very rare but when you did come on you were you you played a big part especially the 881 season as

Well didn’t you yeah in in the UEFA cup run yeah but yeah I came on that was a disappointing thing because I came on at every game set the final yeah which uh yeah that medal you know I love the medal but yeah I would love to have come

On in the final but it was a tight game wasn’t it so but I would have scored how many Subs were there then on that night I think in Europe there was a few was there a few three couldn’t you in Europe but in the league was it one or two

Still one back in those days one was it yeah just you just me yeah yeah permanent what was it like though I mean you know you obviously were joining a team that was flying high as you say and then this European run just keeps going

On and on and on doesn’t it yeah yeah it was you know uh these players these days or not the players so much the managers are moing about how many games they play and blah blah blah but we was having a great time you know we was just loving

Every minute of it you didn’t I didn’t play so much so you can ask them more but they didn’t look tired to me you know um maybe towards the end of the season as B said a couple of Seasons we started losing a few towards the end but

It was my it was my best time in football by mile you know great time did did you think that the training was harder than the game sometimes as well you know the the intensity of the it was for me yeah I was on the Ben no but I mean the training the

Training was what unbelievable with all the all the players and the ability and all that sort of yeah definitely I think when you got a team like that and you know before you know it you’re two or three new up and you’re just cruising and the the class and the quality was

Just well I mean we really we should have won the league shouldn’t we we should have won the league at least uh was a trible season almost in a way should have been what you did with the maybe the size of the squad and suspensions and injuries towards the end

Of the season but no it was it was but we had good fun training though as well I mean five asides on a Monday you might done yeah but you enjoy the F side Fergy on me back every two seconds didn’t I yeah Fergie loved you didn’t he he loved

Me fer Ferguson loved a Londoner he loved it yeah if you if you weren’t a Jer you had no chance with him this is true so it’s you um patney yeah CH patney came in later I used to get it before part yeah he came in and got a

Bit of stick off him later on but I I got it most of the time it was a story when I I um just bought my new car full Capri and loved it parked it under the parked it uh at the ground and I can hear Fergie going around saying who’s

Got the number plate blah blah blah blah blah blah blah I’m going I didn’t even know my number plate at the time and I’ve only just picked it up and gaty said to me like Callie is that you I went why he said um someone’s parked in

His spot so so I’ve gone out and I can remember oh my God it’s him and I’ve as I’ve come down the corridor he’s come along he went getting near you he took me in the dying room wanting to beat me up parking a new spot he wanted B on me

Yeah he would wouldn’t he would do yeah he wanted to B on me I went to Robson and said who is this idiot you know what is he doing but yeah that was my introduction to uh that’s about a week after I signed so I thought I’m going to get on

Well with this fell did did GES you anybody tell you to park in that spot no it was just a I came in it was just a spot under the gym wasn’t it you remember yeah with Fergie on the wall in front of ah yeah it’s on the war path

Yeah he was quite a character wasn’t he yeah you could say that yeah he weren’t my favorite person but yeah I mean he was a good coach you know a different style of doing things perhaps yeah probably yeah yeah best leave it to that I think I think so yeah see you you

You were a out and out left Winger weren’t you yeah and but the team as it started tended not to have a Winger in it it no no yeah that’s right yeah so you were the kind of alternative when they sort of Switched the the system

During the game I think when yeah when they were struggling a little bit I come on and put bit Jed a bit of pace into the game you know and uh yeah so I was just I was yeah know left Winger playing on right a little bit h i remember the

Was it Liverpool when you uh someone was was it you was telling me just that or was it someone else yeah someone else yeah yeah right yeah yeah right foot yeah yeah yeah I me that’s one must be one of your sort of top hold on hold on

Hold on recap have we got it on tip did you cross the ball with your right foot I cross it with my right I was good cross with my right foot were you yeah just couldn’t ping it right well I I didn’t see it many times hook just get

The hook on it you know yeah but it was a little trick wasn’t it little trick you way past someone sort of just inside the half and sort of went and then Mitch over a bullet header wasn’t it yeah yeah yeah I remember that yeah one nil win I

Think wasn’t it yeah one n well that must be one of the sort of top memories of your time at town then beating Liverpool in that era yeah I remember after the game um we went in the plaz lounge and Samy Lee had got the fish had

Been taken off cuz he let me he let me go past him and he he come up to me and threatened me he said you hang on Samy Lee threatened you threatened me yeah I was going like that Sammy Lee’s only that Sammy Lee’s only that big I said to

Him Sammy go away I said You’ remind me of gatesy did you did you did you always go out with gatesy because he he made you look really handsome and was that right I used to wake up next to him and I you woke up next I used to wake up next to

Him roommate yeah he my roommate oh my and I oh G you frighten the life out of me every time I turned over I was having nightmares but um yeah no gatesy he took me what was gatesy Pap because you could order papers couldn’t you what was his

Was it the Racing Post Gates or something like that yeah probably would be yeah Sporting Life Sporting Life yeah oh definitely yeah so gatesy was um obviously we all know about his betting things and when we come back from the film we had a few dollars in the way

Didn’t we that we had to change up where’s the tax man is there a tax man here and um this is a ske to Victory Gates used to be knocking yeah Gates used to be knocking on my door in the afternoon Cy come on come change some of

Them dollars I need I need I need a few quit say go away gaty leave me alone but yeah he he did love a again when you were waiting on the bench to come on look at that team we all remember that team who were the ones

That kind of stood out for you that you just kind of in a of Cu we’re looking at players that were at the top top top of their game at that time who did you really admire the most I was you know of all of them I mean like George Bley was

Probably the best right back I’ve ever seen or ever played with you know um see B and Russell were flying uh Arnold was my man cuz he was a left foot you know and us and I was less footed um but no everyone I mean the way

Gatesy could turn around the Box P strength and OB Marin you know held the ball up well so no I was in it was just it was the perfect team really wasn’t it at the time and uh it was tough you know I thought I’d go there this cocky little

Londoner you know I getting that team straight away but um didn’t work out that way did it you played a crucial role though in that 81 UEFA Cup victory can what what what rounds stand out for you cuz um every everybody’s got memories of of those individual matches stand out for

You I think the um what was the French team Cen yeah I think that game stood out so I remember it being a tough game and uh yeah I think that was the one that thought might have a chance here you know who get through that game this

Is the away one the away away one yeah yeah tough and we batted them as well didn’t we in the end yeah1 but can you remember were you and cologne when I thought I could you know when the on the roller coaster yeah when we had

The C the camera crew I could hear your voice they were screaming you were screaming on that thing I picked out it’s cell it’s Cy whoosh there you go they wouldn’t be that they wouldn’t do that day before game now would they this was some kind of theme park or something

You went to yeah was a theme park over there and we had these camera crew following us didn’t we and um yeah we’re on this theme park we kind on these silly rides and we got game the next day so Fantasia but presumably it was to

Take the pressure off you wasn’t it yeah probably yeah it’s not what you were expecting when you got there Fantasia land was it just outside just outside Soo yeah no we never expected that and because we played norch on the Monday and lost the game then you know

He just couldn’t train there’s no point training so we played Saturday we played Monday yeah and we playing Wednesday and then coming back on playing on we lost against Arsenal on Saturday I think yeah he no surprise then with the size of squad that couldn’t get over the line

In four games in eight days amazing and and the subs one sub and actually it’s two subs at that time in in in UEFA cup not three and if You’ have seen the the pitch at cetan yeah was absolutely diabolical hit one first time shot from outside the 18 yard box and it’s

Bobbling and bouncing around and he just walked up and just crashed it straight in the bottom corner unbelievable strike considering and yet that scen as the best performance of your style of football yeah I think so yeah yeah I think so Mar’s LED from the front didn’t

He and we just backed him up from there yeah what can you remember of the the night you won the UEFA cup yeah I I was bit yeah as I said before I mean i’ come on a subn every game almost and then I didn’t get

Looking in the final so yeah it was yeah I was a bit disappointed yeah but uh yeah it great to win it you know but you want to be part of it don’t you really you know so yeah I was a little bit disappointed but you know uh it was

Brilliant you know so great scenes oh amazing scene no I didn’t I had to go off to um with the Republic to Germany right that that morning I I missed the yeah I missed everything yeah oh no yeah my wife went on the boat on theat

Bus and I never was it any good did you enjoy it it’s brilliant brilliant she says yeah so I missed that so I was on yeah International juty and then after that of course it was you know there were there were financial difficulties for the club weren’t there that uh saw

The players gradually one by one disappearing yeah so obviously I think was it because they built the stand strugling with that and uh yeah it was a shame really because um but obviously With Robson going to England as well that was you know that didn’t help

Um but yeah struggle ban as well wasn’t there at the time so of course yeah yeah it was yeah and Bobby Ferguson taking over presuming yeah yeah that definitely didn’t help me anyway yeah I mean he did pick you sometimes no he did pick me

Yeah the best one was he we played man I think he might I can’t remember it was that game and I was man at the match Man United at home and uh we had Derby away in a cup during the week and he brought me in the office he went Cali said you

And I thought it was a clash of shads and when I looked down the arm that I broke in the film was snapped in half yeah so where’s that for a coincidence and I’m I so I I didn’t feel no pain until I got in the dressing room

And I had a glass glass of uh orange juice that was in the changing rooms and uh got to the hospital they couldn’t operate until the next morning so I had to go home with like oh it’s the worst night of my life um yeah so that’s a

4 5:00 in the morning and at the bottom of the stairs he’s creeping in and he’s knocked his um go club’s over and they made a hell of a racket and everything so suddenly there’s his shout Allan is that you and he’s called yes love I’m

Just going out for a quick nine holes of golf it was a great laugh but he would lose his temper you know he would like um we played away one day I never forget it and we all the so we I lived near pouth but some of the

Boys lived near Southampton charless F didn’t she used to go into this hotel pick Vince up a few other players up and we played away and we won um it was a League Cup second league but rexon we won 2-1 or 3-1 but they scored a goal

Later on and you could see him charging up and down the thing we got in the changing room and he weren’t happy and then we staying over the night and uh getting going to coach next morning no Bly sent the uh one of the direction to

Get him he come back crying he’s had to go at him anyway gets on the coach and uh he’s like right Bly he resigning and it was so cut back on the th Thursday afternoon they always had a board meeting on Thursday say go straight to the board meeting said that’s it I’ve

Had enough of you lot I’ve taken you as far we’ve been you know got beaten two years on the truck by point and goal average and uh I’m resigning so he comes in he tells ass this and he picks up a a suitcase over there and he’s strolling

Out with it I went oh byly he says what I went that’s my case you got there and he chucked it at me like and then so so the funny thing was so we’re all in the change room afterwards we knew like you know we knew like it weren’t well we

Half time I said to Sher I said listen you’re going to get your backside kick from Pillar To Post by Center halves and goalkeepers and stuff like that when there’s a 50/50 there with a goalkeeper you make sure you put your foot in and look after yourself

Properly 20 minutes into the second half another 50/50 50 with a goalkeeper and Sher has gone straight through the goal I think was it Jeff salmon that used to play in goal at Sunderland I think he put about eight stitches down the inside of his shin then so but it toughened him
