This and he’s bowling the number 32 seed Rob Gardner a relatively unknown player for this area looks like uh he originated out of Toledo Ohio it’s not big bowling State Ohio good morning Mr hou champ hou here watching yeah he was clean the whole game shot
Him two on the nose uh 4500 was the cut that’s the second lowest cut ever in the Masters and uh as you well know lowest cut was in 2010 a k b wentus 102 fin yeah I remember that that was uh that was a grind 170 average was on on that on that
Long time pattern that’s that’s pretty low and uh one of our great local players the tallest Masters champion Bill Michaels Jr won in 2010 on that brutal pattern shout out to Bill Michaels Jr he he he was a good one he just turned 60 years old so so uh Rob Gardner uh he’s
Finished third in Oba so uh he’s cashed before he was the 1996 King Classic champ champion in Fostoria Ohio and he took 20 years off from buling Mike from 1997 to 2017 and he throws storm Roto uh nine Global 900 not sponsored but uh hey that’s some decent numbers for someone
Who hasn’t bowled in 20 years coming back and he’s bowling our top seed yeah nothing to lose nothing to lose bowling the top seed so we we’ll see if he can make a little run here so uh on our so that’s Ryan Nicholas our one seed versus uh Rob Gardner on three
And four we’ve got last year’s second place finisher Zack Stone he bowled great last year Mike yeah he bowled good again this year too I watched him on Friday he was on the Friday Squad and and really bowled pretty well on the short and uh he’s taking on Regional player Eddie
Smith Eddie’s been a Mainstay uh in the PBA Regional program and gets a lot of checks in the Regionals yeah he’s a good player he’s a good player kind of a kind of a sleeper player that could uh could to be no stranger to the match play
Format and then over on five and six we got the two-hander the local Protegé Johnny legot yeah he’s finished third or fourth in this tournament before I believe and uh when he was young at at kellock it was still Kellog and he uh he he’s one a regional he could he
Could go deep in this tournament as well and he’s taking on the machine Bill mon uh Bill uh owns Woodburn bowl and the next Oba here um I believe it’s next weekend we’re going to have a non-champions event and then a singles event bills bowling alley and Woodburn
Oregon also owns a couple Pro Shops in the in the area I think a kingpins beavered in but Bill’s a Bill’s a great great bowler I think he came from the California area and uh he he’s he’s very talented rowler and then on seven and eight well once again Mike we got the
Mullen brothers from Bellingham Washington making the long drive down here and both making the cut again this year yeah that’s pretty awesome both both of those players are very good and Josh Mullen uh has the uh the tough task of taking on our only woman qualifier Laura cowling she’s a
Lefty and she bold great to make the cut she B phenomenal Al yeah to make the cut in this tournament you had to bowl great and for her to do it was was awesome she has gotten a check before in this tournament but I don’t think she made the finals before
So this is awesome for her yeah she was minus 15 last weekend and Mike I remember she made the cut at Kellog Bowl I mean she she she got a check I think she was about 40 over she missed a finals by maybe 20 sticks yeah yeah I
Remember that um you know she also she bowled with some other women uh of note is U recent Oba Champion Chelsea ESP sporcia from I believe Georgia I looked her up she’s another newc to the Northwest moving all the way across the United States she’s been going well for the last couple years
Really so both lefties by the way yes all right and then everybody be watching Lanes seven and eight because we’ve got the only two-time Champion that made the finals this year the Hall of Famer Blain weninger and he’s just been on fire this year hasn’t he Mike he’s been on fire
And he made a Deep Run last year in this tournament and he he he’s tough to beat anywhere but especially in this tournament and his opponent probably is a little bit intimidated he’s kind of recently out of Juniors Conor jackley yeah and he’s been he Conor jackley has
Been uh tinkering with two hand one hand he’s he’s he’s bowled both ways he’s back to one hand which I think is is the correct way for him and uh and he bowled great I was watching him for qualifying and and he bow he bowled good on both
Patterns but just grinded it out on that long pattern to make the finals yeah and he will be uh next to Jacob Mullen and the 2022 Champion Tyler Cruz Tyler from up North Seattle area I think somewhere up there but he he’s obviously he’s won this tournament and yes one of the brothers
Very and I believe that Tyler Cruz’s wife is one a go uh regionals I think she’s from Columbia I believe yes Valentina so uh she was down here maybe we’ll see her again uh and then on third and 14 we’ve got Tyler B versus the great Cory housted right in
Front of us here on 13 and4 yeah Cory going to be the crowd favorite every time he makes the finals in this he shot nine open and he was on the Friday Squad and when he was done he thought he was not going to make it yeah
The Friday Squad only uh I believe only five people or plus I think uh one only six people made it off that Squad I think Matthew Robins minus 37 got in only six players from that Squad and then 10 players from B Squad and then
The other half of the field came off the C Squad which arguably was the strongest Squad yeah it’s usually is the Sunday Squad guys like to bowl if they can when they kind of know what a number is going to be a roundabout all right and then last but not least
We’ve got the PBA Regional Player of the Year here on the N pair 15 and 16 and the Oba Player of the Year facing off We’ve Got Jake Clemson Oba Player of the Year versus the two-hander Chris toosi yeah this is this is one of the feature
Matches I was looking forward to the most this morning these guys are both uh both bowling great right now and for the last couple couple years and uh are going to be tough to beat they’re not going to give anything away and you know looking at the history of the Portland
Masters I don’t remember if Scott how and Samantha how made the cut at the same time at the Port Masters I’m not sure that but I’m pretty sure that Jake Clemson and Laura cowling they’re a couple are the first couple to ever make the finals at the same time matter of
Fact Laura beat Jake Jake was minus 27 and Laura was minus5 yeah that was that was pretty awesome yeah um I don’t remember Samantha and Scott how either I was on my Hiatus then but uh but that’s a pretty awesome feat so while we’re on the topic of J
Clemson he has a very full bio sheet he’s got one PBA titles six Oba titles his highest finish in the Masters is eighth so he’s looking to go deeper this year he’s had some problems in match play as of as of late the Masters uh he
Hails out of St Helen’s Bowl yeah I think they him and Laura bought a house there recently in the last couple years so uman I think all of Jake’s Oba titles have come in the last couple years too I think it’s mostly recent yeah yeah and
Uh later on we’ll talk about Bud sard winning his first obia title two months ago and following up with another title come see me at the desk yeah he he won here the budar won the Oba here he won the Oba here he also won the the one in Hazeldale Mike so he
Won at both Houston houses what a what a start the year and um anyways Chris tooli starts off for the was that a Brooklyn that was a Brooklyn wow so let’s talk about the oil patterns Mike we had a short pattern and then we had a long pattern which of those played
Much tougher oh yeah that 48t pattern the second of the two pattern I think the field averaged in the 170s you’ll have the numbers but I I don’t think it was much more than 170 something yeah so uh looking at uh the 200 games there’s so there was 144 players that bowled 10
Games um in the first five games on the short pattern the players averaged around 185 but the we saw the cut the average scores more like 173 the second five games for the field just a extremely demanding long pattern 48 feet yeah it was it was tough a lot of the players
Um were hesitant to get in as deep as maybe they should have but that’s easy for me to say I wasn’t bowling but just by Outsider looking in I would have been playing that pattern much deeper than a lot of the guys did yeah and uh on game
Five uh game five we had 54 P Bowlers shoot 200 they went to lunch and then they came back on the new pattern and they were shocked yeah yeah the uh the uh spares were a premium in that on that long pattern so on game six only 22 out of 144 players shot
200 and the field averaged 171 on game six and then they averaged 173 game seven one and the same game eight it went up a little bit game nine but went back down to 172 game 10 um right now on the Oba it’s kind of a
It’s kind of a four-way race for Player of the Year as I said Jake Clemson won last year uh this year as EST yamasaki Jake Clemson Cory Houston and Bud sard are all candidates for Player of the Year in the Oba and let’s talk about the
Grind out match uh when the Oba sweet 16 bracket was bold here bud sard beat Jake Clemson 364 to 362 very low-scoring final uh last month here at Milwaukee boy I believe that was in February yeah I think it was yeah last month right yeah yeah so the the field averaged
179.99 under 180 for the whole field for the tournament for the qualifying that’s unbelievable we’re talking about the best Bowers in the Northwest so yeah the the the pattern by no means was a short pattern easy but it was easier than that long pattern by probably 20 pins I would
Imagine so I’m going to go through Jake’s resume because he’s had really good run lately he’s uh the reigning player of the year for the Oba um he’s won that twice I believe um reigning Southern Oregon Masters champ reigning Oregon State all events champ the madly Swiss champ the Seattle
Unlimited champ 22 2022 Northwest Masters champion uh I’m guessing that was held at was that held at triangle maybe the Masters yeah that’s the uh the Steve Stevens yes yeah and then the 2022 PBA doubles champ at Hazeldale and then um at Oregon Trail Lanes he posted a
867 League series House record look at that yeah and up right on Q he started off with the front three yeah and we saw uh Chris toski uh drift high and we’re talk if you’re looking at your four panel on the screen there it’s the one on the lower right right now Jake
Clemson’s up on Lane 15 going for for a four bagger he’s playing the outside part of the lane is playing out and that looks nice right now now Mike you’re you were a pro shop guy so you’re going to have to help me out with the equipment um what the ball
That Ryan Nicholas used uh last week I believe it was the IQ 78 yeah it’s the new it’s the new urethane ball from storm and it’s the PBA made a rule that the urethane balls couldn’t be softer than 78 hardness so uh the the companies are now making
Urethane balls that are 78 hardness and that that was that one and and the old uh standard was 72 I think so I’m not quite sure on that but it was in that range and some of the urethane balls were getting a little soft and so
Correct me if I’m wrong but wasn’t the problem that when the balls aged they got Beyond a couple years they got softer yeah they got softer yeah when you when you put surface on them all that stuff were factors into it so all right so let’s so let’s talk
About Chris tuholski here he’s up on Lane 15 we’ll talk about his credentials here in a moment Chris is living in Battleground Washington currently drifting up high and it looks like Jake’s got a pretty big lead early uh through five frames uh Cory housted looks like Tyler Bo opened Ty Cory
Houston’s up by 15 yep he’s up on Cory’s also in the lower right panel of your screen he’s up right now looks like he pulled that one a little bit Yeah but it h it held it did that looks like a pretty uh a pretty weak ball he’s
Throwing there yeah he’s playing the outside of the lane too which looks like might be the play right now so let’s talk about the decorated career of Young Chris tski oh and he just missed a spare he’s got already Mike four PBA titles and five Oba titles but he’s never
Finished higher than 12th at the Portland Masters he’s looking to make a deep run this year he is and and become the first father son winners of the Portland masters of course Craig tooli year 2000 won the Portland Masters also I’d like to uh mention that Craig toosi
Led the tour trials out on the national tour about that same period I would say yeah that was awesome um so one thing that Chris toski did to be proud of Mike he shot 800 at Nationals yeah that’s awesome yeah that that’s killer probably made some money that
Year 2019 PBA Northwest Player of the Year 201617 Oba Rookie of the Year top 16 at the O RPI was that in Vegas or Reno I think it was in V Vegas yeah biggest check $2500 and speaking of checks the Masters is paying $3,200 for first the most ever yeah

Thomas Al walked by he he probably had the clutch performance of the of the weekend most definitely yeah and you know what I’ve never come down and I’ve never uh done Clary for the qualifying Cory mentioned it last year and I came down and it was worth it oh Jake tug
That one fortunate just leave a three pin yeah that’s uh that’s anytime you get nine on a on this pattern when you miss is great some other statistics that I gathered last night Mike was uh 17 of the 32 finalists are returning finalists from last year awes so over half the
Field here has the match play experience yeah there there’s no uh there’s there’s no substitute for experience in these in going further through my notes as I mentioned in 2010 Kellogg has the lowest cut score ever of minus 102 to make the cut this year out of 38 years I believe
This was the second lowest cut minus 45 to make the top 32 and minus 74 to get a 40th Place check Wow oh and he’s 710 Jake 710 oh wow okay okay so let’s talk about the previous Champions that are in the finals this year on this particular Squad there’s two we’ve got our 2012 and 2013 champion Blain weninger and we also have our 2022 Champion here at Milwaukee Bowl Tyler
Cruz but there are four Champions on the next Squad Michael Hansen last year’s Champion Eric Jensen the lane man here the mechanic 2018 be beat me yes and uh as I mentioned earlier year 2000 Craig toski and last but not least 1997 Thomas alt won the Masters and I
Lost to him on the show thanks Thomas he threw a he threw a long string of strikes didn’t he I believe he threw 18 in a row I had about an 80 pin lead and he just he went off but you know uh he deserved it and uh uh Thomas took
Another he took a long Hiatus from Bowling um I believe he said he hadn’t bowled in the Masters in about four years he really hasn’t bowled much and he kind of proved to himself that he hasn’t lost his touch last weekend coming through with a 253 game uh so
Thomas he shot a 689 the final three games yeah he V he v a big game game eight too I remember yeah um and I have that here on the sheet hey let’s be clear about something though Thomas is never going to lose his touch’s he’s that good yes he is and
Then um so I’m taking a look here I my GL I brought glasses for the first time this year getting old so let’s see um Thomas qualified 27 Mike but he went he was you know well out of the cut with three games to go and he popped off 243
193 and then a 253 yeah to get to 27th Place yeah that was the clutch performance of the weekend definitely and uh I’d like to also talk about uh Ryan Nicholas who absolutely crushed the morning Squad yeah he bowled phenomenal U Ryan Nicholas Mike was 225
Over the first five games and then he kind of ground out 15 over just enough to get top seed at plus 240 yeah B bowling anything over on that long pattern is like averaging 250 on it so it it was uh it was pretty impressive to watch him Bowl especially early so out
Of the 32 there are three left-handers we got Ryan Nicholas number one we’ve also got coming up next Squad The Great left-hander Gary Lennox in 18th he was plus 40 and then of course Laura Cowen our only female 25th yeah Gary Gary Lennox is back he he went through about
Achilles injury and has just recently started bowling again yes and also um last weekend we did have an award score on the brutal pattern on game two uh the Chris tooli shot 299 and 266 that opening Squad last weekend he was throwing the that he was throwing European the black hammer 78 at
Jak Clemson big split again so he’s Jak Clems is letting letting Chris hang around here as another open in the night also of not is Tyler Bo shot 278 Champion I’m and then uh let’s talk about consistency Mike Mike Hansen comes to mind right Mike Hansen he had nine out of 10 games
Over 200 on the two very demanding patterns yeah I was here Friday he B the Friday Squad and he he was it was pretty pretty impressive he crossed with Zack Stone on Friday by the way they were on the same pair yeah other than that’s a
Great cross and and other than the 187 game nine he bowled great every game um look for him to have another deep run this year I believe he won a couple more big tournaments right after the Portland Masters last year I believe he won the Idaho Masters maybe in central
Washington he’s he’s a Hall of Famer oh yeah he’s great yeah he’s great a lot of people don’t know him around here they probably should now because he won last year but he’s uh he he’s going to be tough to beat and another thing to note is that Ashton yamasaki also rolled at
287 last week uh another thing I’d like to mention is the perseverance of of the young bud sard bud started off with a 143 and ended with a 172 but he put together eight solid games in the middle of the block and made the cut easily and
Probably has a distinction of being the tallest player in our field most definitely and he’s a two-handed player very good yeah and he was crossing over between sixth and seventh Arrow late last last Sunday when I was here and then um uh we’d like to talk a shout out
To uh Tanner aosta Tanner the son of the Hall of Fame uh California Hall of Fame I believe uh Mal Acosta um Tanner drove up this morning from I believe is it Lebanon that he lives in yeah Lebanon Lebanon and poor Tanner I mean he was in
The cut soft and he he had a 484 the last three games and just missed the cut by four pins yeah he was uh you it was it was a lot of pingpong ball in the last couple games of that cut score last weekend so Chris dski gets the first one in the
10th he can shoot 2011 Jake Clemson shoots 221 so some late opens by Jake and some and uh Chris is keeping it close potentially only losing by 20 this opening game yeah he’ll take that after Jake started with a seven or six bger all right and we’re we’re still
Going through my game notes here last year I believe Mike Kennedy who what about the Year Mike Kennedy had on the Regionals he Rich Corwin and Mike Kennedy really made a statement for the senior talent in the Pacific Northwest besides Blaine of course Rich Corwin didn’t get in this field I think he
Signed up too late or something that’s what I heard I’m not sure if that’s true but Rich Corwin finished second in this tournament in 1998 to Roger lir I remember that they moose so rich got like you know $1,500 for second that’s a that’s a total Roger [Laughter]
Lir yeah so Roger lir by the way sponsored me on my first ever high roller tournament I made some money for him yeah um he always did well down there and then uh so Mike Kennedy who finished fourth last just missed the cut this year at minus 67 he got trapped
Down there on one and two the last game and really had a rough it at the end yeah he was crossing my brother’s pair and that that pair was brutal they were all brutal that last but and then the last week Daniel Jackson who crossed with our tournament leader uh Ryan
Nicholas uh he almost made it into the cut uh but he finished just short getting a check 37th Place Dan is our 2016 Masters champion finishing at minus 68 and he hasn’t I don’t think he’s been bowling much so that’s a that’s a huge performance from him playing way deep
Inside on the the lane for anybody but for the lefties he was playing probably deeper than anybody and somewhat surprising Mike Ian Willard missed the cut our 2019 champion at Kellogg Bowl uh 39th Place TI with AJ Brockett at minus 74 yeah he he he normally goes deep in this tournament
He’s one of the guys to look for on Sunday there’s Mike Hansen right there as we as we speak defending Champion Mike H yeah Mike’s heading into the can real quick hopefully he doesn’t step in your end okay so uh let’s talk about Rob Garder from Ohio last week he weathered
The storm of the second pattern he bow a 138 right after lunch but then he hung on to the 32nd spot with a 200 the last game despite missing a 10 pin in the 10th gets into the finals uh another thing to note two-time Champion Tim
Meyers missed the cut 43rd Place but he was close minus 82 he was close and he’s going through a u manufacturer change he’s CH just recently switched from Storm products to he’s now throwing hammer and BR friend Brunswick so I don’t know if that had anything to do with it but he’s
Probably getting used to the bowling balls right now and on the by the way yeah I think him 66 he looks like he’s 46 yeah so he won the tournament when he was 28 and then when he was 37 I believe and he was he’s one that took a Hiatus
From Bowling too back in the day and came back not only does he have two wins but he’s got a a number of second place finishes as well yeah yeah he’s a you wouldn’t think he was 66 years old it’s AR so he got second in 2020 to Adrien
Anderson he put up a big fight in that one what happened to Adrian Anderson he didn’t Bowl he didn’t well I don’t know if he’s bowling much I know that he’s got married and got kids it’s kind of like kind of like Mr Dan Jackson the
Kids take a lot out of you lot of these Bowlers are are having families now promiscuous Bowlers okay so um let’s talk about the low games Mike there are more low games in this tournament than any qualifying and they all came off that second block
We had it someone rolled a 89 a 94 a 100 and a 101 game this is a scratch tournament folks wow and the scores being that low goes to show you how demanding it is and right on Q BL wer 244 first game and Connor with a 169 he may have some

Exciting match should be a good one and then over on 13 and 14 backto back Oba champion and current I believe Player of the Year in the Oba Bud SAR is going to take on Andrew goba the second now this Andrew gooa Guy uh is I believe he went
To UNLV Las Vegas and I think he either won the Ed Masters or he got he did win the he did win the Ed Masters and he was an unknown player yeah he’s he’s from Las Vegas and I watched him ball that I was here and he was he very very solid game
