A clutch what an incredible day we got to watch the debut of Anthony Kim 12 years out of the game and he came back a lot of fun to talk about that you are watching the amazing Club 54 post round show and here we go I am your host

Christian Crosby welcome and thank you for tuning in joining me is suan hang you had yourself a day today uh we have so much to talk about and I couldn’t be more excited about it welcome to Club 54 post round shout to our fans suan what’s up how you feeling

Yeah I mean look it’s a lot cooler than we normally would be playing on this golf course it’s usually like 95 to 100 degrees today it wasn’t as bad but the wind is up and this course is always tricky now you got to follow three guys today I want to start with Dustin

Johnson he had a day I want to know you followed him around all day maybe didn’t do what he wanted to do today but what did you pick up yeah I mean he was really solid all day from te to Green he just missed a few putts uh and I think

He could sense a bit of frustration from him coming down the stretch and he said it in his post round interview as well feels like he left a few out there he could have certainly shot eight or nine under if he made more putts but really solid start he’s had a great track

Record here he plays really well it suits his eye and his game he loves playing golf in the win and uh let’s take a look at his highlights shall we DJ highlights here yeah started off the first hole hot start pitched it to about about 6

Ft now this seventh also for a birdie opportunity stred out really solid with a flat stick and sort of just steady it out at the end but here on the 10th great pitch as well downhill right to left putt he’s been working a lot on his putting getting more weight to his left

Leg and this is his second shot on the 14th got a couple more highlights here suan has been so solid with his wedges it’s one of his main strengths especially out here he’s just so good as long as he hits the ball on The Fairway

He is just so solid as when you give him a wedge in his hand his Strokes gain is impressive on the field when he’s inside 150 he’s impressive just just from your take from today what do you think needs to improve the most for DJ as he goes

Into tomorrow I mean he said it in his post round interview he’s going to go practice on the putting green behind us I’m wouldn’t be surprised if he’s not there uh but yeah if he just made more pods do what he did today stay patient he certainly in the hunt all right let’s

Talk Peter Uline who is someone else you had a chance to follow today he had a pretty solid day today I want to know what you thought about it here are some highlights check it out talk it through suan here are some Peter line highlights from today yeah he started out really

Really hot um and just didn’t quite follow the momentum on the back nine HE2 great Trek record here at Royal greens this is for birdie at the 5ifth leading and putting stats in the last two events and now this is his second at the seventh look at that right There and now here birdie on the 11th made four birdies today in just a one drop shot yeah solid round for Peter today it wasn’t his best certainly felt the energy dipping in the back n from him and you can sense a little frustration as well uh really generally with that

Group probably the last seven holes or so I noticed a little bit of a energy level just well it might have to do with that sun that’s blazing out here all right let’s talk Brooks kepo looking to be a three Pat this week uh what did you see from

Brooks you know he just wasn’t comfortable from tea to Green today I know he’s been working on some stuff uh you know I spoke to his caddy Ricky uh right about the 16th hole and he said you know he’s the range here the winds off their backs and they’re just really

Uncomfortable he can’t quite get the club around him just seems uncomfortable all day bit of a slow day for Brooks but we’ve seen him play so well over the years and we know he can go low the next couple of days which is what he needs to

Do if he wants to have that three peep would you say there there’s anything uh he needs to be concerned about as you said he he’s done this many times and this is his spot here in Jetta um worried at all or not at all I mean

There are certainly some names that been added to the roster that season you know you John Rah Adrian all playing very well charl getting some momentum as well um I don’t think he’ll be worried I mean winning once is hard winning backto back is even harder a threee is really

Tough so I think he’s just looking to play really solid get his game sharp again especially going to the major season well let’s take a look back at Brooks and his success here in Jetta the last two years check it out Brooks cap takes the individual title in jeda for the second straight

Year he is our champion at the Royal Greens Golf and Country Club I just think it’s a ball Striker’s golf course I really do the wind gets up in the afternoon so you really got to control your ball flight control your Spin and I feel like

I I can do that pretty well it’s really good if it’s the right distance oh what a peach it’s stinking hot 93 F tougher it gets the better it is for me there’s our leader Brooks caput I like this place like the golf course that we’ had some

Success just hopefully build on that oh yeah now we’ve got a good group of guys I’ll be exciting to see how we finish this week Brooks cap cup for the second straight year he is our champion in jeda winning breeds confidence and that was Brooks kepka

You left Little Rock when you were a kid did you see this happening at all I never really envisioned uh playing a worldwide tour I went to my Agent M barnhard and I’m like I’ll go anywhere in the world I just want to play 40 events I want to play tournaments

Against great competition I don’t feel like I’m getting better and I feel like I’m just kind of waiting until the next q school got a call a few weeks later that I could play the first event on live golf and that also gave me uh asent

Tour status so it was a no-brainer for me because I I genuinely just wanted to play tournaments that matter I wanted to have a schedule I wanted to have tournaments to prepare for know when my next start was I think I have status out there for 5 years now since I won the

Agent tour order marriage so I can I can kind of pick and choose the cool places that I want to go see and Singapore right absolutely yeah I’ll always play Singapore as long as you take us back to that market where we have those fresh coconuts oh yeah absolutely

That every week and you you can take a poll of the other 53 players in the field they’d say the same thing I want to get your take on today there so much to talk about Anthony Kim John ROM etc etc what’s your overall takeaway from

Day one well John ROM did that thing which he always does he didn’t look like he did anything special out there and he’s tied for the lead at 800 power shoot 62 that is just how good he is in a nutshell all around solid te to Green

On the greens around the greens he’s just a great player he’s probably the best player in the world if not he’s one of the first second uh Anthony Kim did I think better than I expected better than a lot of pundits expected for sure but certainly not uh not to the type of

Level that he would have maybe hoped for I don’t think he expected much better but I think he would have hoped for better but he’s not going to get his sea legs under for quite some time he didn’t embarrass himself today he probably has

A few good things to uh to draw on from today’s round and will continue to put pay the price do the things you need to do and figure out a way to be the best he can be whether that’s as good as Anthony Kim used to be or not remains to

Be seen but it’ll take a while to find out I mean he’s absolutely definitely doing that take a look at some of these highlights here I’ve already seen them all yeah yeah live over and over the guys going to watch him over and over again Cherry come on all right here we

Go you expect it out of him you really do he’s yeah I think you know in his mind he feels like he’s overdue to win out here and this is his third event yeah I I I really enjoyed watching him today it kind of felt like it came out

Of nowhere even though it didn’t he just has a way of doing that which it seems right yeah he does but you know what might have felt like it came out of nowhere um was the guy who’s going to be joining us here shortly Charles schwarzel beat his last round of

Competitive golf by 17 shots you just blew it away you told the fans he’s coming before we tell you didn’t tell him already I didn’t tell him oh man Charles Schwarz will be joining us uh which we look forward to talking to him in a few moments there um I I want to

Get into a little bit of Anthony Kim before we talk to Charles just his day in journal doing something that nobody’s ever done in sports 12 years retired coming back as a wild card and doing what he did today maybe wasn’t what he expected but what I think it’s pretty

Close to what he would have had to have expected um it’s not as it’s not close to what he hoped for sure uh you know he’s got a self-belief that is unwavering and to shoot 76 six overpar is going to be disappointing to him and internally I don’t think it should come

As a surprise to anybody you got to temper your got to temper your expectations and I just saw a tweet from one of the golf writers saying remember when tiger came back he hit a shank of Riviera temper your expectations folks all right here’s a look at Anthony Kim’s day take a look

Now all right here we go the highs the lows what we got there first t-shot I believe it was yeah he just absolutely striped it and according to those who played with in the proam that wasn’t the strength of his game yesterday this was his fourth shot at 18

After had bit of a miscue on the second shot reportedly to have completely mishit his layup iron shot but starts with a bogey and uh did actually save another bogey later in the round and then added a birdie and then you know slowly made his way to uh to the round

That he shot six over par it was a lot of fun watching him his composure he seemed to it was surreal watching him was what it was I mean we most of us never thought we’d see this again he disappeared from seemingly the face of the Earth certainly the face of

The game and nobody’s ever done like you mentioned what he did in professional sports You could argue maybe George Foreman way different analogy there having taken some time off in boxing and come back eventually to be heavyweight champion of the world um anybody who underestimates Anthony’s Kim ability to

Play Great Golf given some time given some time you know a few months it could take you up to a year to be the best he’s going to be we don’t know how good that’s going to be yet but uh he’ll he’ll do everything he can to get there

On that day uh welcome to the show thanks uh highlight of your career right being on the 54 I think so right up there um you’re I mentioned it when you were sitting over there you probably heard it your last round of competitive golf in Vegas was a much higher number

17 shots better today how do you explain that huge a difference is that why I’m feeling not so tired today I think so a lot less shots um now I’ve been struggling with the driver so Vegas um that last day I hit four balls out of bounds four four

Oh wow um on various holes and um you know those normally add up to double Bogies so it wasn’t great um last week in Oman I had the same issues so this week I went to a shorter driver um uh considered bringing out my son’s driver real short but I didn’t um but

Anyways 44in driver this week and um a small change in ball position and it was good I had a good day with a driver yeah but you don’t shoot 63 with a driver you shoot it with everything and that putter was working probably the

Best I’ve seen it now I don’t get to see every shot you hit or every putt you hit but the best I’ve seen it since our inaugural event in London where you couldn’t miss if you tried I agree with you the last time I put it that well was in

London well we actually have some highlights here let’s take a look and we would love to hear you talk us through them Charles all right here we go where’s at nine um the butt was about right ede you know the biggest change that I did this

Week and the last time was actually in London so since London I’ve been putting with a line on the ball uh today I decided no line really I’m going to just um f with feel uh read it choose a spot and just feel it and um

Yeah the feel was on instincts more like a kid exactly so um you know you know one one other when you was good when you won in London arag event made everything like I said you couldn’t miss if you tried I think it was the very next week

Or two weeks later and live weeks in Live Events you changed Styles and Putters you went from the broomstick down to the traditional putter I I feel comfortable with both yeah um you know for me it’s whichever one makes the ball go null um struggled with the weight uh of the

Long poter when I went to America greens were quicker than they were in London and it took me a while to figure it out so I’ve got a uh a PN now that’s 100 G lighter in the head and 2 in shorter than the one I used in London 100 G

Lighter that’s that’s almost 4 oz too inches shorter as well yes wow that’s a big difference yeah and and since I’ve done that my speed’s been amazing conventional wisdom is counterintuitive heavy putter fast greens light putter slow greens do you think of any of that at all when you’re

Making those adjustments or just feel in a in a short putter it feels that way to me but with a long putter the heavier it was the more I struggled with like up and over and real uh feel putts you know putts that were could get away from your quickly

The long part I found that very difficult so when I went lighter um you know it’s still heavier than a than than the conventional but um it’s light in a sense of a long butter so it helped me a lot you know Christian knew to uh live golf but he’s studied a

Bunch of it what he might not know uh based on the first two weeks is how accustomed Stinger is to being Inc contention on the podium wasn’t the case in Vegas what did you guys tell each other look uh it normally takes us a while to warm

Cuz there were going to be a lot of eyeballs on that in a lot of ears I talked you about that before we on a and you didn’t help did no no no no you you said there’s a lot of people on you today D I’m like yeah thanks very much

Jerry so what inside scoop can you give us about Anthony Kim that you observed from today there was a lot of highs a lot of lows what did You observe well he was nervous on the first T you know I don’t think I’ve ever seen him like that

I’ve watched him a lot on TV even at the rder cup which is the most pressurized uh theater in golf and he didn’t look nervous there but he was nervous on the first te but he kept his composure he hit some bad shots out

There he had a lot of good ones too but his demeanor never changed he never lost his emotions and uh I was very impressed of those nearly 12 years away he probably spent 11 and a half of them thinking this day would never come never planning on it coming so he he hasn’t

Had a lot of time to think about it we don’t know how sharp he kept his game he told me there was a long period of that time he didn’t own a set of clubs it’s not like he’s playing two or three times a week with his buddies and staying

Sharp so I think it’s pretty amazing that he has as much game as he had now the score wasn’t great but has as much game as he has no I mean what’s remarkable I’ve been watching him on the Range the last couple of days his swing

Is identical to when he was in his prime when he was 27 25 26 years old hasn’t changed I think obviously the feel of his uh you know his hands through the ball must be a little bit different it’s it’s it’s all brand new it’s like starting the game all over again pretty

Score he says but he played much better than the score Don do you agree with that yeah I I only saw for the first nine holes he hadit a couple but he had a lot of good shots the one on six into the win about 180 yards to a small

Target and H had a little punch low one through the wind pin High about 15 ft and he made his first birdie and he’s got a great sense of humor I told the story on air yeah tell it uh we’re walking down the second so one was

Playing into the win 18 18 was playing into the win one was playing into the win and two which is the opposite direction of one was into the wind so I’m walking off the te and I said to all three of them I said guys are you going

To play all 18 hoes into the wind and cam looked at me he says if I play the next toe into the win I’m going to get out of here I’m going to fly to Hong Kong I’ll see you there and that Kim said I’m going to take the next 12 years

Off when we look at those quotes though those are the same quotes you hear from so many players who are undergoing swing changes um and that’s those are guys practicing every day those exact I mean word for word much of what he said that is very encouraging that he feels that

He doesn’t feel like oh I got away with playing poorly today and shot 76 it could have been much worse he fully expected that score to be better and expects it to get better very quickly in his position right now what does he do does he shake off today should he walk

Into the next day feeling amazing I think he should be honestly myself and I’ll get abused for this on social media I don’t give a damn I think he should be how you really feel Jer extremely proud of having come out here and faced the demons that are the fans the

Haters if you will faced all the people that are like saying the things they said and went and held his head high and hit some great golf shots and there’s no reason to think that he should have any game right now after that kind of layoff

And he has some game and it’s only going to get better I love that Jerry love the energy of that answer too we got a little feature Anthony Kim Take a Look feel great been a long time coming right now I’m focused on playing good this week got a few weeks of

Competitive golf in front of me so I’ll tell my story when it’s the right time but right now I’m focus on golf uh I’m excited to be out here with my daughter and my family and uh just enjoy the experience that Liv is providing and I think I missed the competitive part of

Of the game I wouldn’t just say it was golf but just being In the Heat of the Moment have an opportunity to do something special and I’m looking forward to having that opportunity again yeah that was a good one I could make that one 11 years off is a long time but

Um I feel like I was blessed with a little bit of talent and a little hard work could go a long way so I’m expecting good results I don’t have too many nerves right now um I don’t know how I’m going to feel on that first te it’s been so

Long but uh you know golf is just a game right so I’ve gone through enough things my life where I’m going to enjoy the moment and try to play the best I can about time I’ve been putting in some work and and I’m ready to go I’m 38 down so I

Don’t know quite a few of the guys but I’m here to bust everyone’s ass I mean above all it’s safe to say absolutely entertaining every moment of today with Anthony Kim Welcome to live golf it’s always irritating perfectly put he’s the man with all the good words

Well speaking I like your shades by the way these are the first Shades he’s ever owned that he didn’t get for mton John whoa that was a bar that means I’m going to bring the Elton johnes one out tomorrow please do do speaking of entertaining Rachel Drummond down at the

Range always brings us a show checking in with you Rachel what’s going on 3 two one by there has been some drama on the 18th hole here at Royal greens and the team haven’t been kind to me they’re going to make me do a bunker demo and

What I think is one of the hardest bunker shots but before we get to that we’re going to have a look at the playoff between Brooks kka and Peter oine and some shots that Peter oine played Under Pressure which was unbelievable here he is I’m about to

Give this a go in a second what you can’t feel is the amount of wind you have on your back with this shot and the small landing area you have to hit to get it close to this pit pin he’s landed it perfectly and he’s let it roll down

To the pin now there’s a lot of things that go into a good bunker shot like this and I’m going to show you now let me get some balls here right so the two most important things in a bunker shot are the strike so your low point and also maintaining Loft on

The club face so I’m going to give you not one but two drills to help you do that so number one you’re going to draw a line in the sand we always talk about setup P1 being the most important so you’re going to do a cross in the sand

Now I know that a club head outside my lead foot is where I need my ball position so I’m going to put the ball down there now I’m standing quite far away from the ball which helps me lower my hands and I’m going to get my weight

Over my lead leg so I’m about 7030 and a little bit of my sternum back now the drill you see that I’ve drawn the line the goal is to see how many times you can hit that line and this will give you the confidence to execute the shot now that’s drill number

One now drill number two is maintaining the appropriate Loft on the club face so when we talk about Loft Club face open we want to keep that there cuz that’s how we can add speed into a golf shot this is a particular favorite of mine you’re going to get sand on the club

Face I learned this off Luke Donald Christian Donald is caddying this week for Brandon still so stand on the club face now the goal is to get that club face and lob it over your lead shoulder so did you see a little bit of sand that

Tells me there’s Loft on the club face if I close the club face do you see how the sand falls off right now I’ve got to have a go at this shot so I’m going to try and execute all of those things so I have my weight on the lead legs stman a

Little bit back and I’m going to keep that Loft on the club face it’s a little bit left is it going to get down the hill I’m going to take that I’m going to have one more go though I’ve got one more thank you I’ve got one more little

Tip that might help you I had a short game lesson with Dan grieve if you haven’t seen him he’s unbelievable and instead of typically people being open with their stance he taught me to get my right toe back a little bit because that will help

You turn so we’re going to have one more go again Landing eror is important weight left oh I’ve gone left again Rie no I cannot finish on that one more one more okay so last one and I’m going home and I’m telling everyone that I work with this was brutal right foot slightly

Back weit left and keep that Loft on the club face oh she’s gone left again I’m I’m finishing it there but give these drills a go good luck great job Rachel amazing over there we had a great time watching from up here in Club 54 we’re going to get you down

There doing that you don’t want to see that Jerry you don’t want to see that oh yes we do yes we do you know what I believe that I’ll take that uh let’s talk a little bit about our team leaders from today shall we start with Legion 13

I think we have a leaderboard we’re going to pull up here and I would love to hear your recap on the day uh from our teams and here it is here’s the leader Bo Legion 13 at the top Stinger GC finishing at second and of course the iron heads at three this

Is this is fun to watch here iron heads and High Flyers are two teams that don’t reside near the podium too often but there has been a lot of changes a lot of additions and both teams are stronger this year yeah it’s great to see IR heads up there but

Legion 13 I talked about that with John Rama in my quick interview it’s he’s now the two of them are very in inexperienced players but they are really stepping up and as you guys can see smash GC currently and Ninth our team Champs coming out of Vegas let’s take a look

Back at their run in Vegas Brooks kepka the captain of Smash GC only one victory in their history that was a couple of seasons ago for me I think we were looking to make this team be as good as it possibly can a Topsy Turvy few moments for smash GC
