BRIDGESTONE GOLF MINDSET VISUAL TECHNOLOGY | PGA SHOW 2024

Adam Fonseca from Golf Unfiltered sits down with Adam Rehberg of Bridgestone Golf to talk about their new golf ball upgrades for 2024, including the exciting new MINDSET visual technology. Shot on location at the 2024 PGA Show in Orlando, Florida.

All right everyone welcome to the PGA show it’s no longer the PGA Merchandise Show I’ve been the P show it’s way cooler way cool Adam fona golf on filter Dan Hower is behind the camera uh here with Adam rayberg our friend over at Bridgestone Golf how are you man it’s

Been a few years I’m good I’m glad you guys are here and it’s exciting the floor is hopping right now just opened up so very exciting absolutely so uh we’re excited to talk all about the new Bridgestone stuff obviously the golf balls everyone’s been hearing a lot

About Jason day Tiger Woods by the way among other names what’s the big new thing here with the brid stone golf balls this year so we’re relaunching the TB series um our golf balls that are the RX and rxs designed for swing speeds under 105 and the Xs and X that are

Designed for swing speeds over 105 that Still Remains the Same from fitting category the big thing we’re excited about the new balls is is the reactive X system the reactive X system is a combination of two things we have a new accelerate mid layer so the mid layer has been reformulated redesigned a

Denser mid layer for more tensile strength more faster off the te more uh recoil on that outer ring around the core and then what it does it acts like a backboard to on short shot so you get a little bit firmer denser feel around those chips to get more spin yep um so

Then those two things reacting together we like a better term make the reactive X system the reactive IQ cover and the accelerance so there are two things kind of working in tandem for this equation that represents the reactive X system which is interesting because we get a

Lot of questions at gu about all right well can a golf ball actually behave differently on different types of shots and that’s something you guys perfected a long time yeah yeah so the cover you know um a couple Generations ago we launched the reactive cover and then we

Re we relaunched it as the reactive I CU cover and so what we do is we add additives to the mixture a lot of people they’ll just pour in urethane right and it’ll be a 53 shorty or a 47 shorty and that’ll determine the softness of it

What the material actually is so what we did is we added additives so it reacts differently on different shots so think of a football helmet of the inside it’s real soft when you put your thumb on it but when there’s a violent impact with an NFL player you want it to protect

Their head so when you hit dve with our cover it reacts to the firmness of the impact the the speed and then around the greens when you’re hitting a slower shot a lesser speed it acts a little bit softer I always say it’s much like you know you see those college kids make

Those things where they can their feet can go on it as long as you’re really fast and hit it you stay on top but then when you slow down you start to sink so that material acts differently very similar to what we do with the cover that’s incredible and it’s something

That is really important for golfers to understand especially new golfers we’re still in this golf boom yeah you know and it’s something that people want to understand especially with Bridgestone because you can improve your game no matter if you need distance off the tea or you need more spin around the greens

You got one golf ball that you can do it or you only have to buy one golf ball so that’s incredible it’s so important the fitting thing I have this conversation so many times with consumers I did ball fitting before I moved into marketing so I had like a season of ball fitting

Under my belt and I learned a lot but so many people walk up and say oh it doesn’t really matter and I always venture to say like it may matter to you more than a Jason day or tiger they’re already so close to optimizing everything they’re looking for small

Incremental fixes in their game you could have an actual large like if you’re out there playing a very spinny High launch High dimple pattern golf ball and you overwork the ball then you could move down to a ball that’s a little more forgiving has a little less

Spin off the tea but still gives you what stuff around the greens and you could see a big Improvement you know instantly off the tea and on long shots you know a lot of people fall in love with what it does around the greens and we also provide greens side spin but

Working back from the tea to Green we feel like is much more important for the everyday golfer I mean we fit tiger from the green back yep we never said that’s wrong we just feel like it’s a more optimized way to fit a a consumer in the

Real world from the tea to the green yeah it’s it’s an amazing thing that you guys do with your golf balls and you’ve even taken it a step further with this new mindset visualization we’ve all seen and day using it what is the mindset behind mindset yeah we’re we’re really

Really excited about this one and we’ve been working on this for you know four or five years is something that we were kind of beginning to work on obviously pre the covid boom and we were kind of looking at different patterns on the ball trying to get a player into the

Right mindset to hit their best shot and so just 18 24 months ago we started working with Jason day and Jason gold smith on this process we kind of brought him in we pitched this to all of our PR we kind of show it to him tiger kind of had

Input into it as well of what he lik what Focus means to him but Jason really it’s something that he kind of does already in the past so he was super excited to kind of work on the pattern the way that the circles work the coloring and then Jason Goldsmith was

Definitely instrumental it’s his uh performance coach that works with him on that part of his game like gold smith will literally be following him keeping up his score of how he does things if he slows down too much bad score if he goes too fast it’s a bad score so there’s

Like a sweet spot for a tour player and obviously they have a lot of time and things they could do differently than the everyday golfer and the everyday golfer sometimes gets in that mode of like you kind of lose it for me I use this example all the time cuz it happens

To me you get on whole 11 or 12 you’re playing good right you get a little comfy so you start talking about fantasy football baseball and then you you wipe one OB and you’re like man I didn’t even like think I just stepped in hit the shot and

I didn’t really give it the attention it needs and it’s very easy to do we don’t get paid to play this game so it’s very easy to do you’re talking about family and stuff like that and you get a little distracted and then then you’re just

Tick that you hit such a bad shot when you’ve done all these things so what mindsets there to do is kind of keep you into the right mode the right mindset to hit a shot cuz what that’s really what you need to do we can talk fancy football and stuff all

You want but you need to click into that 20 seconds to hit the shot and do the best you can I mean you’re paying for golf you’re paying for balls you’re paying for equipment you want to optimize that 20 seconds over the ball and just the steps in itself um the red

Is identify your target so that is getting all the things you need to do to hit the shot wind slow all these type of things and then you move to visualization this is a very key one for Jason he actually closed cles his eyes and he visualizes the shot and golf fans

Will see that on camera exactly you see that on TV he’ll actually stand behind the ball and close his eyes so he’ll see a hyraw or a cut or whatever he needs to do and then once he has that he set himself up to move to the final stage

Which is focus on the Green Dot and execute the shot so You’ really set yourself up with those two steps to do what you need optimally to hit your best golf shot that’s awesome well Adam rberg from Bridgestone Golf Bridgestone a longtime friend of golf unfiltered the
