Many golfers are often left confused about the inconsistencies they’re experiencing in golf swings. With a multitude of possible answers to why they’re having issues – having the right posture during address can be the beginning of most of their issues.
Nearly as important to the golf swing as a proper backswing, good takeaway and ability to execute at impact, good posture sets golfers up for consistent results. As taught through the GG Swing Method, George Gankas golf strategies promote consistent motion throughout golf swings. Any student of the George Gankas golf swing method can attest to the huge gains made through their training.
Despite being one of the most forgotten fundamentals, posture should be highly prioritized by any player looking to improve their existing swing. Our posture often indicates how our club will swing around our body, allowing our bodies to maneuver correctly and balance. During the typical golf swing address, players should be going through the following checkpoints:
Ensure that your stance for irons adopts the shoulder width approach between feet, this should be slightly wider for wood clubs
Keep your knees light, with the majority of your body weight distributed to the balls of your feet
Ensure you’re able to tilt your hips forward during address, with your back remaining straightened until your club hits the turf
Keep your club about waist high during address
Your arms should be loose yet straight before swinging the golf club
Keep your bodily posture upright with your legs positioned straight and solid
Players who are unable to establish good posture at address will experience a loss of posture. Loss of posture, considered to be any alterations in the body’s posture at address that happen over the course of a golf swing, can happen to players that fail to establish solid balance during their swing setup.
While a player’s body changes during their swing due to this loss of posture, timing becomes completely inconsistent, leading to a host of issues from address to impact. These players will suffer severely from inconsistent placement of their clubface at impact, which will make for disastrous shots.
