#4 Smoother Backswing &1d

Part 4 in the series: Folding your arms in the backswing.

So just put it in front of you fold and turn now we’re going to turn and fold our arms at the same time this is the fourth video in this series how to fold your arms in the back swing if you haven’t seen the previous ones check right

Here so again we’re going to do this exercise standing straight up we’re going to eliminate those angles so you can see what you’re doing so take your Club in your hand put it in front of you and I want you to just fold and turn now remember the turn is a turn of

Your chest like that it is not a turn with your arms your arms stay in front of your chest go ahead and let your head turn also okay we’re not focused on that at the moment so just put it in front of you fold and turn now you’ll notice you’re getting a

Little bit of a swinging feeling in this in your arms but you know because you’ve done the exercises that you’re really just folding your arms in front of your chest and then you’re turning your chest back away from the target it’s just a chest turn is not an arm

Turn it’s part of the illusion you pick up engulf again it’s just fold and turn fold and turn fold and turn that’s it it’s just your fold combined with turning your shoulders or turning your chest just point your chest back at the Target it’s just a core turn of your

Body I’m not worried about much about the mechanics of your turn at this point I just want you to think of turning your body we’re not swinging your arms we’re folding them again fold and turn and that’s the exercise okay it’s time to do our next set of

Exercises we’re going to turn and fold our arms it’s just one two 3 4 five it’s very important you do this exercise standing straight up uh if you tilt over at this point you’re going to have such a feeling of swinging your arms that you won’t keep your arms in

Front of your chest this doesn’t take long do it standing up I want to emphasize your arms stay in front of your chest one two three four five now you’re going to start feeling like you’re swinging your arms it’s an illusion but you’re going to feel like

That I want you to focus on your arms and focus on turning your chest and shoulders not your arms focus on keeping your arms in front of your chest and just doing the fold with them one two 3 four five remember this lead arm should come shoulder height it should basically be

Parallel with your uh shoulders the same level one two three 4 five and this drill I want you to let your head turn with your shoulders I know that’s not how you do it from the golf stance but we’re not in the golf stance our Focus right

Now is I want you be able to see your arms and make sure they’re staying in front of your chest I want you to make sure you’re not swinging your arms behind you especially make sure you keep this lead arm Straight Lead arm straight flat same level as your shoulders one two three

Four five I’m going to try this sideways see what we get here one two 3 4 5 now I want you to compare my arm position at in this one to the previous video and notice it should be the same my shoulders are squared toward the

Camera and my arms are in front of my my shoulders arms are squared and in front of my shoulders they’re not thrown behind me or around me they’re in front of my shoulders one 2 3 four five again bring your lead arm shoulder level so be parallel with the ground one two 3

Four five almost halfway there one two three four five and when you get to the top at the end I want you to stop there a second and look at your arm arms and make sure they’re in the right position one 2 3 or five okay I’m going to start from the

Back a little bit here so you can get a good view of my trail arm at the start of or the end of the Swing one prob not enough two three still probably not enough four still not enough five ELO notice my trail arm is not behind me

It’s still up on top of my chest one two 3 4 five if your Trail arm is falling behind your chest if at the top your Trail arm is coming back here or it’s behind your chest in any way you’ve got a problem it should

Be in front of your chest the arms stay in front of your chest they stay in front of your body not on the side one 2 3 four five notice the trail arm is not glued to my chest either my lead arm is straight so my trail arm has to reach out to

It to make the move move if I was down here and cut my lead arm straight if I glued this to my chest my lead arm would be way too low so it comes out more like this one two three four five again we’re letting our head

Rotate uh with our chest here uh we’re not keeping it looking for right now the important thing is to look at your uh arms one 2 3 four 5 that’s 75 it’s going pretty quickly okay we got 25 more to go see how quickly it goes one two 3 four

Five now I don’t care if you fold your arms early or late or if you keep your arms and fold them late in the swing whatever you know some people say oh wait till the last minute to fold your arms some say fold early just remember

The purpose of the back swing is to get you in a certain position at the top of the back swing and that’s it however you get to that position it doesn’t matter all it matters is that you get to that position at the top of the back swing one two 3 four

Five chug it on almost done one 2 3 four five remember it’s just fold and turn that’s all we’re doing right now all we’re focused on one two three four five last five I told you it went quick one two 3 4 five that’s 100 now if you’re not bored

By this point if you’re still struggling do another 100 it doesn’t take that long the point is to ingrain to this point that it becomes automatic that you don’t have to think about it sh
