My primary swing thought believe it or not is dust Target no swing thoughts at all shouldn’t play with any more than one if you’re going to play with a swing to maybe you can practice with a back swing and a down swing but on the golf

Course play with a back swing to is kind of okay but for me just for consistency I always just focus on the Target no swing TOS relax focus on the target low and slow try to make a good turn staying down through impact Podrick Harrington the Irishman is what

I call a cerebral tinkerer from his arrival on the European tour in 1995 and incidentally he completed his accounting degree before he turned Pro Harrington has shown an insatiable desire to improve his technique and her’s craft buckle up middle of the season was averaging 299 plus and that was leading

PGA Tour Champions has bumped that average up to 30 0 8.8 now one of Europe’s greatest ever players the three-time major champion and Hall of Famer Tob has once again reinvented himself and he is a powerful force on the PGA tour Champions Podrick Harrington speaks of speed and the

Gaining of speed is something that’s close to his heart and how he needed to break initions to improve said Club head speed when messing around with his mates Shane Lowry and Rory m he clocked 192 M hour with a club head speed now this is far removed from a guy who when

He came out on the European tour did not hit the ball very far whatsoever so let’s dive in to see how he does this first off you can see here at a dress he plays far away from the ground there’s not a lot of set through either the hips

Or the knees height is not a bad thing notice how he stands up to the ball and he hovers the club head that hovering of the club head facilitates a smooth and a wide move away from the golf ball from there as we start him back it’s all

Pretty standard you can see there’s a little trigger knees push arms raised body raising up and can you see how the club now meets that relationship with his hands how there appears to be a little upward push in his backside here so as the body turns it’s not just

Turning he is certainly creating turn and lift so from here you’ll start to see as he continues to wind up his torso in his hips the arms swing up and it’s like he’s reaching for the sky that is beautiful right there because now that stretch phase allows him to go and now

Plug into the ground which then will allow him to push off the ground and employ all of the ground reaction forces so from here there’s the plug to the ground as he transitions down low body pushes down hips unwind you can see there’s some pushing up his pelvis is

Almost jamming into his rib cage the arms are extended and from there the club just gets slungshot through the ball all the way to the follow through he pushes up the club accelerates and there he is into a balanced finish so this is not PG at maximum speed just you waiting a

Second averaging a little over oh that’s his full on one right there we just checked it that is 11 19.9 slightly above his average for the year when that left foot completely moves out of the way like that that’s when he is absolutely giving it a

Rip boy that left foot just jumped way out of the way buckle up here boys now that bunker on the right hand side 287 he can carry that which makes the Fairway much WI wider here for a player that’s got a lot of length and Carries that bunker

Perfect here’s padr about to unload got a few onlookers they better stand back or else they might get sucked in so when he hits one harder and he can hit them hard he widens up The Stance you’ll see all power golf has do that he hovers the

Club he’s trying to create as much height as he can so here we get him to basically go Zone and see what he does so as we set him up just gently touches the ground you can actually see the little movement in the feet Now watch how this right leg is straightening

Watch how that right hip is turning there’s no sideways movement whatsoever he’s actually going upward with that trail side as he is extending his arms so watch the upward phase as he continues into the back swing big stretching in the arm arms huge turning in the shoulders look at that that’s as

High as what the arms can get so now he’s completely turned and he’s completely stretched now that area those elements are going to be reversed and you’re going to see the hips start to change direction and go back toward the target and you will see the arms get sucked into the body and

Watch how the club head lowers as he creates creates a huge environment where he goes from stretched to contracted so he can stretch again look how the club low is see how the body’s unwinding look at that massive torque over there let’s see that again he was massively

Stretched awesome right there now watch as he starts to turn his body back toward the targets how the club lowers and almost gets pulled into position by the front side look at the energy he is showing look how he’s plugged into the ground over here look at this you can

See the wrinkles across the shirt everything’s engaged you can see how he’s grimacing as he’s throwing everything he has into this now I want you to see two areas CU he’s going to continue to turn he’s going to continue to push and he’s going to start to tilt

Backwards with his spine too this is all in an effort to give himself a bit more time to get to the golf ball and certainly create an upward swing so here we go from here you’ll see the body push up the spine drop back you can see look

How that right foot’s almost grounded you can see the head’s dropping back even more arms reaching full extension look at that he’s created a situation where he’s made himself as long as possible from his chin all the way down to his foot and look at this huge huge

Extension from the left arm all the way down through the club to the club head and he’s hit that ball right in the center now remember all of this movement has been a function of pushing upwards in that left leg and tilting backwards in the upper body so watch the result of

That ground reaction force he’s pushed down and away so watch what happens to that foot as he goes into the follow through we let him go look at that foot’s almost completely off the ground and in a completely different place to where he began he’s turned all the way

Through and that golf ball left in a hurry that’s padri Max Speed padri Harrington getting it going and right off the bat he goes flag hunting what a second in there to six feet Jus reference the roar at 17 maybe it was produced by this padrick Harrington shot second shot iron shot

Into the par five and almost a little Double Eagle this is a danger a shot no wedge here 183 off a downhill light back into the breeze oh my goodness what a shot on the T at 17 with a share of the lead 186 yards little disappointed that Patty’s

Not wearing green on St Patty’s Day his iron game is crisp still usually when you try to pick up distance and hit up on the ball you lose your iron game but he’s still hitting these kinds of shots with mid irons Harrington with a long iron in hand it’s

The same principles as the full swing with a driver but just modified just quietened down a little bit so he has a long iron in hand and I want to show you a little trigger because the golf swing doesn’t just move left and right and up

And down it moves pressure from the heel of the foot to the toe of the foot and vice versa so here’s Podrick watch as the club moves away watch how the heel of his lead foot raises up into the air just slightly just kind of preambles he goes back the weight shifts

Into the heel of the back foot and the toe of the front foot that creates an environment that rarely allows his middle to wind up and pivot as he now winds to the top the arms extend see how the hips are turning he is winding up

But can you see that bias forward that is gorgeous over there look at the angle in that right leg can you see how he’s primed to feel like he’s going to travel downward toward the target and that downward look that high right knee that low left knee that creates that downward

Compressing look that he’s about to deliver now from there he set it up he basically just transfers he unwinds the head lowers the arms swing down as he turns and he absolutely bashes that golf ball that is is beautifully struck the weight’s forward the body’s unwinding

The arms are in front of him and now from there there’s not the pushup we saw with a power driver the pressure will stay forward in the foot but the pressure just shifts toward the heel that opens up the body and so podrig can follow the arms through free flowing all

The way to the follow through watch this pressure shifts the heel he’s turned out of the way the arms have extended that’s a beautiful strike from The Talented Irishman rri Harrington playing his second into 13 look at this also taking dead [Applause] aim she needs to pick one up here and

That’s getting better all the time outstanding that turned out excellent what a good play that was really nice swing and contact just edges this very nicely and he just keeps the birdies going how dominant has he been in his short PJ tour Champions career here’s Podrick Harrington with a

Scoring iron in his hand now granted the balls are an up sloping lie so I don’t think you would very much see him play wedges from that far back in his stance all the time but this is shot creation of an uneven lie what I do want to

Highlight is how podrig turns on tilts and how beautifully he uses his Trail arm so let’s focus on these areas both shoulders and the trailing elbow the good hand for the right-hander so as we turn him back you’ll notice the left shoulder will turn down and across and

The right shoulder will turn up and behind him almost like you’re twisting the lid of a peanut butter jar open on a tilt so can you see he looks low with the shoulder and the elbows folded in behind him that’s beautiful we talked about how he undercarriage worked

Earlier in the show that’s the same but can you see how that shoulders turned down it’s a rotary tilted motion now as he transitions you’ll see that left shoulder work down and then turn upward and the right shoulder will follow he’s now unwinding on his tilts but what’s

Very cool is how this area of his body begins to fire can you see that trailing elbow he’s got the club head oh halfway down in the downswing and that trailing elbow is folded to about 90° his shoulders are basically level now from there you’ll see that elbow progressively begin to

Extend as the left shoulder’s raising so at contact now 90° is now about 150° or so so can you see how the left shoulder’s gone up right’s gone down right elbow’s straightening now as the left shoulder continues to get up and out of the way like that peanut butter

Jar turning open you’ll see this elbow continually strive towards straight it’s slightly bent there and as we extend them into the follow through you will see that now hit a spot where it’s almost straight in line with a shaft see that almost 180° fully Rel least and now that entire mechanism the mechanism

Between the left arm right arm and Club will just get lifted by the pivot all the way into the follow through it’s a beautifully simple action one where Podrick turns on tilts and extends that good arm that right arm down through contact to maximum and then from there

The job’s done you just pose after another good shot showing us the full array of the Harrington back the Flop shot at the short 17th yeah you got to be high on Harrington’s game I mean he’s he’s got all the shots taking it all the way back there onto that second

Level and very well played two little skips and just held its position well done going to have to feel it in there use your eyes use the number feel it you beautiful touch yeah that was great right there
