Why the OKC Thunder Actually Traded for Gordon Hayward

#NBA #OklahomaCityThunder #NBAhighlights

The NBA trade deadline has ended and the OKC Thunder have once again engineered a trade that made them better. The Thunder have just acquired veteran forward Gordon Hayward from the Charlotte Hornets and in exchange, OKC traded guard Tre Mann, forward Davis Bertans as well as rookie Vasilije Micic to play alongside LaMelo Ball in Charlotte. The Thunder also signed big man Bismack Biyombo for the rest of the season. But now the question for the OKC Thunder is, did this trade put them one step closer to championship contention? Can the Thunder’s core of Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Chet Holmgren, Jalen Williams, Josh Giddey, and Lu Dort be elevated by what Gordon Hayward will bring in Oklahoma City? One team got exposed at the NBA trade deadline and it’s definitely not the Thunder.

Sam Presti has orchestrated one of the best rebuilds in NBA history. The Thunder are now considered to be contenders alongside teams like the Celtics, Bucks, Nuggets, and Clippers. Now that the trade deadline has passed, teams like the Dallas Mavericks have also improved as the Mavs have acquired PJ Washington. The New York Knicks are also winners of the trade deadline after acquiring Bogdan Bogdanovic and Alec Burks, while the Lakers are considered losers for not making any trade. Pat Beverley was traded to the Milwaukee Bucks, Killian Hayes was waived by the Pistons, and the Celtics traded for Xavier Tillman. But In this video, let’s dive into what the Gordon Hayward trade means for the OKC Thunder’s road to playoff contention.

The Oklahoma City Thunder have been one of the biggest success stories in the NBA this season with this super young team winning against more experienced teams most nights while being on track to have homec court advantage in the highly competitive Western Conference come playoff time but one of their only

Issues entering the postseason is that this team doesn’t really have a lot of collective playoff experience as no other player outside of Shay gilis Alexander and L Dort have experienced postseason play in their careers well we can’t really tell if that’s a good thing or a bad thing but either way the

Thunder are changing that scenario by acquiring veteran forward and former Allstar Gordon Hayward from the Charlotte Hornets in a trade that will see the Thunder shipping out third-year guard Trey man as well as veteran Sharp Shooting forward dois bton well with the Charlotte Hornets having new ownership

In place they’ve already traded away G ter Rosier a couple weeks ago while preparing to completely retool the team’s roster around lamelo ball this summer and with that idea Trey man in particular would be a great addition to what the hor Nets are planning to build

For the future but as a thunder fan looking at things specifically from the perspective of the OKC Thunder well I think they’re getting a really good low-risk high reward addition here in Gordon Hayward even if he doesn’t necessarily fix OKC’s size and rebounding issue the 6′ 7 veteran

Forward who turns 34 years old in March is currently on an expiring deal and is still averaging a well-rounded 14 and 1 12 points nearly five rebounds and nearly five assists per game for Charlotte this season but to be fair Hayward is currently hurt with a calf

Injury and hasn’t played a game since December 26th plus there’s also a lot of skepticism about how he could stay healthy once he returns as Hayward has missed 25 games this season and a total of 138 games over the last 4 and a half years ever since that horrific leg

Injury he suffered with the Boston Celtics at the beginning of the 2018 season he really struggled to avoid injuries but if Hayward actually manages to get healthy towards the end stretch of the year he could make a ton of sense for this OKC team that’s ready to make a

Deep play of push over the next couple of months cuz first of all Hayward is your typical plug-and-play veteran who fits perfectly with what OKC have been hurting opponents with all season long he can shoot the ball he can drive to the basket and he can make the right

Passing reads when trapped by defenses that’s basically what OKC has made his identity on offense as the Thunder Drive the ball to the pain than any other team in the NBA this season and while he wouldn’t get a lot of touches in OKC as he’s used to getting Hayward is still

Going to be a useful secondary playmaker who actually doesn’t turn the ball over a lot this season he’s actually been averaging 4.6 assists per game which is the highest assist Mark has put up in the decade plus OKC can even ask him to be a cog in their drive and kick heavy

Offense as he can still shoot well enough from Deep to play off the ball he’s been shooting 36% from Deep this season and is overall a career 37% shooter from the three-point line plus another reason to be optimistic about hayward’s arrival in OKC is that after struggling early in the season for the

Hornets Hayward actually shot 50% from the field 39% from deep and 81% from the free throw line during the 14 games before his recent Cal injury and given the number of offensive weapons that OKC has there’s a big chance that hayward’s percentages skyrockets even more with

The Thunder but then also on the other end of the floor although Hayward isn’t really a great defender due to his athletic limitations he’s still a smart Defender who knows how to use his size and is typically able to put himself in the right places while functioning in a

Strong defense I infrastructure which OKC actually already has in place overall Gordon hayward’s size and frame would still allow him to play either the three or the four in a lot of different lineups that coach Mark dagal might deploy in the playoffs but actually even without really diving deep into how

Hayward fits with the team I think this trade is already a win for OKC at least on paper well sure OKC traded a talented young scorer and treyman but Trey man was basically already out of OKC’s rotation anyway and moving on to dvis bton well sure you could have argued

That his flooor spacing would have been helpful for the thunder in the postseason but by letting go of him and Trey man the Thunder just saved themselves an additional 9 million in cap space for the next off season which would definitely go a long way plus looking at it ideally charlot would have

Received an additional second round pick from any team that would have traded for Gordon Hayward but the fact that OKC landed a potential difference maker like him without giving up any draft compensation and without giving up any rotation player is another win for Sam presty and the thunderf front

Office but what do you guys think about this trade by OKC do you actually think that Gordon Hayward could actually move the needle for OKC in the postseason feel free to drop your thoughts in the comment section below and again if you’re new to the Channel please consider subscribing as well again this

Has been roll balls and I’ll see you on the next one peace oh

  1. Update: The Thunder are also trading Vasilije Micic plus 2 second round picks to the Hornets together with Tre Mann and Davis Bertans

    Did OKC win this trade?

  2. I’m excited about this.he will fit really well and this could boots his career !okc style an overall team play will benefit Gordon

  3. Sam made the call to him personally and said " Can you really play"? Dude says yeah, but not for this crap team. (Hornets)

  4. As a Hornet fan I couldn’t be happier.. Tres a good pick forsure, Bertans gives us shooting, I like Micic for experience for us.. And the picks definitely were clutch..

I hope you guys like Gordon but I’ll be honest I’m happy he’s gone.. Dude may give you 30 games a season though..

  5. I mean Bertans, Micic and Mann for Hayward is a no brainier. Bertans is averaging 2.9 ppg, Micic 2.5 and Tre Mann 3.8. Hayward could potentially get more than that by himself. Also we probably have too deep of a bench anyway so flipping three guys way down the bench for a guy who could potentially become the teams sixth man is good business. And we still have guys like Wallace, Joe, J Will, Wiggins, Kenrich and Dieng on the bench with Hayward so the team is still crazy deep.

  6. I'm going to assume though that OKC's medical staff did their due diligence and feel confident that he will be able to play otherwise they wouldn't have made this trade. If he is able to give them solid minutes in the playoffs he absolutely makes this team better and that should be scary for the rest of the NBA since we're already leading the conference. He's played 32 minutes per game this year in 25 games played so when he's able to play he's playing a big role.

  7. There was also a draft pick swap that the Thunder also dealt with the Mavericks. By moving the salary cap money through player contracts and pushing back the draft capital with the pick swap, Presti is creating longevity for the team. This will allow him to preserve the players through development and increase the chance of winning a championship. Gordon will also be a great player for helping Giddy develop. Even if Giddy doesn’t become what the Thunder need, by increasing his value they will increase the teams value through trade options. IMO, Presti did the perfect amount of adjustments at this time. He acquired value while restructuring his finances.

  8. Nah this a L for okc they could’ve got more for tre mann Hayward is good when he plays but he’s always getting hurt

  9. definitely got better. Their depth went down a little but they. are already sooo fucking deep it doesnt even make a dent. And they add a Vet whos been to the playoffs before. This is a huge acquisition for them. If hayward can stay healthy and have a bounce back year… this might be the beat trade of the deadline

  10. I don't mind the trade all that much. Win win for both sides – Tre could absolutely be a star for Charlotte if utilized correctly, he wasn't going to play with our guard depth. Hayward will be a good vet granted he stays healthy, he may re-sign on a contract friendly deal with us seeing as he is already plenty cashed up coming off this current contract. Vet experience and dump Micic/Bertan's salaries. Not bad.

  11. Great move by Presti. He flipped Bertrans and picked up a temporary asset in Hayward. Gordon Hayward was a really good player before his recent injury, so I'm looking forward to seeing how he meshes with the 2nd best team in the Western Conference
