Golf FANS sent into FRENZY over ‘preposterous’ NEW LIV format

I’ve never seen golf fans so divided on opinion in my life and it is all over the 2024 liv golf event yesterday! Golf traditionalists and golf fans across the world aren’t enjoying seeing one of the world’s most individual sports played in a team format on the rebel LIV Tour as well as this new format from liv golf…

In his first tournament since joining LIV for a reported $566 million, Jon Rahm was at the top of the leaderboard but finished with two bogeys to miss out on the individual victory… there is also huge rumours about the next player to be joining liv golf as well as huge opinions on the new format of the leader board, the following of the individual and team scores.

LIV also has a ‘shotgun start’, where players tee off at different holes around the course to begin their round. This is a MAJOR talking point so please get down in the comments section of the breaking and trending golf news story, i want to hear your thoughts!

Golf fans have been so divided over the first live golf event of the year I have seen so many different opinions in fact I have never seen so much divided opinion on the same sport it seems like golf fans aren’t enjoying seeing the most well world’s most individual sport

Being played in a team format on live go now you might be thinking well Alex is the first event of the Year why is there so much hype of live golf well couple of reasons number one we had John Ram one of the world’s best players recently

Joined and everybody was dying to see how he played and how he got on also then you had till Hatton join the week of the opening event in myoba then that also timed I guess unfortunately for the PGA tour with horrendous weather on the final day of the AT&T Pebble Beach

International now that final day was scrapped the PJ tour decided to cancel the final day because of the adverse weather conditions which actually meant all the people who would tend to go and watch PJ Tor a Sunday had their Sunday ritual which maybe you do then went and

Found their golf elsewhere watching live golf and this is why it sparked so many opinions online now we’re going to go through so many of these opinions and I guess what I’m trying to say here is if someone says to me team format I think

Ryder Cup the last thing I think is live golf potentially that could change but it’s the last thing I think also we’ve got to think when anybody now pulls out a tournament like for example right Victor hins pulled out of this week’s PGA Tour event everyone goes live golf

Live golf rumors live golf because the same thing happened with tohan and the same thing happened with John RAM and the same thing’s going to happen over and over again now what do you think on that could he be going anyway let’s get into this story all about well I guess

The massive downfalls for in my opinion live golf now this week was a big win and a big opener at mayakoba it was full of drama yakim Neiman won in a Four Hole playoff against Sergio Garcia after his Wayward drive fortuitously off the trees back onto the edge of the Fairway also

We saw the highly anticipated first event of John Ram the $556 million man still can’t get over that that is ridiculous he climbed the leaderboard and was at the top going into the final few holes finishing Bo bogy he missed out on actually getting into that playoff and an individual Victory

However his team Legion 13 won the overall team event making it a Bittersweet result for the Masters champion and he had this to say I am very disappointed in myself only time I hit the ball all week into hazard was on 17 so it’s a tough pill to swallow

Because I played so good all week but I’m very proud of my team now this is the Mad thing no one’s really talking about the fact that John Rams team won it’s very much all on the Sergio Garcia yakim Neeman or for being perfectly honest how John Ram narrowly missed out

Winning his first live golf event and I guess this is my point like let me know if you were one of those people who went and usually watches PJ tour and went and watched live golf like the story in the rhetoric for me is more exciting on the

Individual format it’s full of big names now like we can’t argue with that it’s lit full of massive names in golf and I’m more bothered about the individual side of things when I’m watching it now I guess this is where the major problem comes when where gol fans are divided in

My opinion and I want you to let me know what you think now the format right now sees each team’s top three scores counted in rounds one and two all four player scores are counted in the final round of the event now remember there is

No cut so it’s four people in a team first three for the first two rounds and then all four for the final round like I’ll be honest this is the first time I’ve sort of really dived into what the format is the leaderboard on the TV broadcast shows the player scores as

Well as the team scores logo in a clustered graphic in the top left corner now when I was watching this right I didn’t know where to watch like look at the screen right now yes you see loads of different shots yes we see loads of action and that helps with the shotgun

Start format but I’ll be honest when I’m watching the screen it’s like I’m watching a newsreel I really don’t know where to watch things are changing things are moving it’s all over the place I guess it’s very different to what I’m used to watching now what do

You think is this too much is this all right like this is where golfers are seriously divided on their opinions on this so let’s go into exactly what go pundits and gol fans think of this firstly let’s start off with Dan rapper p his thoughts are some thoughts after

Watching live all day they probably snagged a bunch of amazing players it’s fun to watch the back nine battles between amazing players and the broadcasters show a ton of golf it’s not a bad watch on mute the music is bizarre makes it feel less important and generally just annoying that aside I

Enjoyed watching it today but the team thing is just a total Miss for me I don’t care more distracting than anything and the big problem because that’s what their business model is based on making these teams valuable and selling them but live is at its best when it’s just a golf tournament between

Really good players on a broadcast that shows a lot of shots that’s not a novel concept it’s an interesting situation they’re in with this team deal now that’s probably a great sumar of how I exactly felt watching it is that how you feel watching it or have you not even

Watched it at all so let’s dive through a new some more of these opinions from just people that I found on Twitter on the feed because it was seriously popping off the next one here from Andy Johnson said watching Liv and I have to say the names legitimately make it

Difficult to take the league seriously I mean like the they do don’t like four aces Legion 13 I mean range goats I I just think if they just made some better names like it would be a lot better like really a lot better like I

Get the idea and I get the concept but the names make it feel cheap another one coming in here from Joe Moran said the live golf format is still Goofy and the team name/ logos are Preposterous and there’s no question this is the most compelling golf on this weekend I think

That still be the case if the AT&T were on so that’s a really interesting tweet in my opinion this is clearly a golf fan who watches golf on TV every weekend and he’s saying even if if the AT&T on the PJ tour was on he would have watched Liv

Golf because it’s more compelling and better battles and if Liv golf managed to snatch a few more players those battles are going to get better but again the names the team format letting it down one thing I’ve got to ask you a question on is do you think live golf

Would listen to golf fans and maybe mold and adopt what they’ve got or they just going no this is us and this is what we’re going to stick with let’s go for another one of these quat comments here like these again just ones I picked up on random on Twitter this comes from

Andrew Kirby golf sorry to the haters but the live team event with all the scores counting is great so we’re seeing an opposite here kale Jasper makes a triple and now Ripper GC have a sniff it’s a bit of fun and for those who hate the team names Ripper is an Aussie slang

For really good EG Ripper bloke now I know what it stands for but I just don’t get it it’s like if I think of team sport it happens quickly if I think of team sport in golf I think of Ryder Cup I don’t think of this again I want to

Reiterate it’s still new so things can change let’s pick out one more comment though and don’t forget let me know what you think on these so this is one of the ones here this is from Lucas Han and it’s interesting to see the same things pop up with every one of these comments

Apart from one or two so tried out live golf today with the PJ tour rain out okay again like I said is a very pivotal point for live golf if they managed to nail this and the concept was absolutely perfect I feel with the amount of people they have it’s a great roster

Unbelievable roster they could have really snatched a lot of fans to go you know what on a Sunday I might go and watch live golf now it’s on I might watch PJ to the Weeks live golf’s not on but if live golf’s on I’m going to watch

That but a lot of people are sharing the same opinion the thoughts are music is a massive no-go broadcast is a bit sensory overload for me again this is what I was saying I was watching it I was like I I just don’t know where to watch history

And context matters way more than I expected interesting the team goal feels pointless my father-in-law described it as NASCAR style and I think that’s that’s how it looks like because you can see on the side the team Leaderboard on the bottom the individual scores and it all just changing like they’re going

Round a racetrack and that sort of reiterates I guess the shotgun start format I can I can see it now the thing that I I I look at this as if golfers are finding it hard to break down that barrier of traditional individual golf do they have to change slightly their

Model in order to capture more people because clearly people are enjoying seeing these battles but really not interested in in the format of of the team now if you look at it this way Yim Nim W around $4 million coming first you then had the team aspect where they had

A share of around 3 million between them so you can see like there’s there’s a still a hefty prize for the for the individuals here in terms of the team format to win the team but gol fans aren’t reciprocating what the money’s worth and golf fans aren’t getting on

Board with that all we’re bothered about is who won now I I’m sure like this whole retoric will change over time but right now I really feel go fans have a huge barrier to watching it and that simply is they can’t get on board with a team format I honestly think think if

Live go wants to improve and come better they’ve got the players now they’ve had the players for a while if we’re honest they need to listen to what go fans want they need to listen to what go fans are saying here in this for room because

Without that I feel they’re not going to be able to capture enough people now this is just my opinion and the opinions that I found here online let me know what you think by getting involved down the comments area it’s an interesting topic and by God they’re here to stay so

Let’s get used to it and you know what I really did enjoy watching it just not the team bit I really did enjoy it

  1. Alex, do you have a favorite football team? The answer in ALL of the UK is, of course I bloody do!!!
That's the idea behind the LIV Teams. You can pull for a team because they're from Australia, UK, South Africa, Spain, USA, Asia and on and on. Who do you think they pull for when they play in Adelaide or Valderrama? Then you can also pull for an individual player who may be your favorite. I was pulling for Joachin but when it got down to the playoff, in my heart, I would have been so happy if Sergio won. One of the most interesting back stories was that Sergio was Joachin' s idol 15 years ago and he has the greatest respect for him.
And as for Legion XIII, the reason they won the Team competition is because Hatton and the two rookies gutted it out for the team as Jon struggled in the final round. It was an amazing performance for guys playing the first time as a team. I can tell you ALL of the LIV teams know there's a new sheriff in town.

  2. Dude… The team format is what makes it awesome, it makes you really care about what's going down the leader board. I'm always scrolling up and down the leader board to see how my Crushers are doing and now I have to watch Legion because Caleb Surratt's home course is my home course. I was playing Sunday and everyone on the course was talking about how is Legion doing and wanting score updates, it was crazy. Also people are buying the team merch, which shows the popularity. I've got tons of Crushers swag which sells out frequently and I tried to order some Legion 13 stuff but everything was sold out already.

  3. The team format is cool. People are just so used to what golf is because the PGA tour was the only golf league, but now that there is a rival golf league that is taking all these top golfers away, I think people are just more salty that these golfers don't want to stay on their precious PGA tour.

  4. I still don't understand people who complain about the format. They play 18 holes every day exactly like every other tournament on the planet. There is ZERO difference. If it's the cut, no one cares. No one watches that and it's rarely shown. It's funny, most of the haters say that it's either A) too different or B) not exactly like PGA. I mean… c'mon.

The one complaint I can understand is the music. Rahm clearly doesn't like it. You can tell it bothers him. But he was getting used to it yet it's clear he'd rather not have it.

As to the teams, if you don't like it, ignore it. There is absolutely nothing going on team-wise on the course except if you care to pay attention to it. What the team aspect does is that even if you're out individually, you still competing for the team. So complaining about the team aspect makes no sense to me. Just ignore it. There's only one event out of the whole season that's team only.

As for the leaderboard… it's a leaderboard. If you're confused by a leaderboard, no one can help you. BTW, you should have seen it the first season. The names were three characters. I'm not joking.

And as to the first LIV event, you can't get a more exciting finish than that.

  5. The interest in the team format is mainly because of the fact ALL players play their hardest, no need to give up because they are supporting their teammates to the last hole.

  6. I have been watching LIV from day 1 and attended the event in Bangkok, which was great.
Another positive for me apart from the strength of the field, the team format, being played globally, and the shotgun start. Is that due to time zone challenges (I live in Asia), I can watch a full replay of the US and Euro events the following day.
Yes, the scoring bar can be confusing but you get used to it after time.
Yes, the music can be annoying but you get used to that as well.
Simply a better product than the advertising-infested PGA, which I find unwatchable.

  7. world ranking points were given for 54 holes at Pebble Beach but not for 54 holes for LIV golfers. Smells fishy.

  8. all i can say is i watched all liv rounds. havent missed one. yet i just found out the pebble beach pga tour event was also this weekend

  9. i watch more yutube golfers these days than pga tour. love liv. still like the majors and ill tune into the players and fed ex cup if im noit busy. i doint want to sound anti pga tour because im not, just less interested now.

  10. For me, I like for my favourite player to win but if he is not in contention then I want my team to win which is great. I love watching LIV.

  11. I tried watching…honestly, The Korn Ferry Tour ending event, where guys either get or lose their PGA Tour card, THAT is freakin' awesome in comparison. I'll never watch that LIV crap again.

  12. It is the 3rd year…scores are easy to read…individual top left and teams teams bottom left…easy as pie. Or simply go to LIV app and see all the players scores, or all the team scores…no issue. If the team aspect doesn't interest you, don't worry about it, just follow the individual players. And why is 4 scores used on last day…cause it's a team and a team is just as weak as it's weakest link. People with all these issues with LIV should rather watch their PGA broadcast…some golf from mostly nobodies between overload of advertisements and interviews. If you watch LIV you get to see a much better field with Major winners in almost all the pairings, and you get to see golf actually being played…in every event! What stupid complaints you threw out there…loud music, names of teams. I'm not an American and some of the NFL and NBA teams names are just as stupid…Red Sox, Cowboys, Eagles etc…means nothing to me and sounds a bit stupid to me…same with IPL cricket team names…but after a while you get used to it. I mean, take a name like Justin Thomas….2 names and no surname, WTF is that? But eventually you get used to it… PGA loyalists can keep to their boring game and mostly nobodies playing with apparently more boring people people watching it…us LIV people enjoy how the game is played on it, alive and loud!

  13. Team names…..team format……seriously? You’re gonna complain about that?
Anybody who has been involved with golf would know you are on a team until you go pro….!!
    Why?
Then out of the other side of your mouth, you rave about Ryder Cup! And The Presidents Cup!
There is a major disconnect among many fans. Most people are raised playing golf were on a team other than AJGA stuff…..high school and college.
The team format makes golf so much more compelling since even being last place in the singles, their every shot still matters.
Sorry, but I disagree with the posts you cherry-picked.
I modified my s hedge to be in Las Vegas for all 3 days this weekend.
Sorry, but the PGA puts me to sleep. 8 hours of PGA golf is my ticket to an all day nap.

  14. Let’s get all the tours together again so i can save the batteries in my remote. Going back and forth gets old lol

  15. Making all 4 players count in the final round was a great idea. There’s nowhere to hide so no mailing it in. The team game is phenomenal.

  16. I love the team format in liv golf. I dont think Hovland is going to liv. Maybe he is unwell or injured. I went to liv adelaide in my hometown which was fantastic. Looking forward to them coming back in april.

  17. It’s also funny to talk about names. Every team name in every sport is goofy…until you get used to it. “Chargers”, “49’ers”, “Chiefs”, “Nuggets”, “Mavericks”, “Bucks”. If you just think about names of teams, it’s really just a function of getting used to it.

  18. I like the LIV Golf coverage. I think the team aspect is cool and gives golf fans something different from what's always been done. After watching a couple of times, you get used to the leaderboard format on the left of the screen. I watch the PGA Tour, DP World Tour and LIV Golf coverage. Why not? You want to see the best players in the world? They're all there, just not on the same Tour. And they likely never will be again, excepting the Majors.

  19. The main no no is not the music nor the teams, it is the shotgun. You can not appreciate the build up of a round of golf, you can not wait to see your fav player coming to the most difficult hole, you have no information on the course…it is disconcerting.

  20. Love LIV golf. Teams provide an additional interest for players I follow. I know they are still giving their all for the team even if they are well down the field

  21. I disagree on your assessment on Team golf. I get if you are a first time watcher you are confused but as you watch more you start to get it and root for a team. The team aspect keeps the players interested in playing even if they are not in the race for the top single prize. It also makes the players root for each other vs being just individuals sport. Like college golf! If you never played high school or college, you do not get it. Because it is a shotgun start lots of action happens in a shorter period of time vs tee times going all day and play moves slower. I always say when I want to take a nap I watch the PGA but with LIV you do not, lot more action. I enjoy LIV Golf!

  22. LIV is not for the traditional 55+ golf fan…it is for the new and upcoming generation of golf fans who love this non traditional format. i'm 62 and enjoy watching this format because it's disrupting an old way of doing things. Everything eventually changes you just gotta get used to it. If the OWGR don't change their stance on world ranking points i hope LIV creates 4 new Majors that represents the global game rather than having 3 Majors in the USA and 1 from United Kingdom.

  23. you comment on golf and cant understand leaderboard been watching liv for a year fast moving great commentators. People need to move with the times old school stuffy people been holding golf back for years. GO LIV

  24. LIV Golf is the future of golf. Team event with an individual winner. It puts added pressure on the individual player to produce for there team.

  25. It is different ! That's the point. I don't want to watch another PGA Tour. Even if you're not in the lead, you can help your team. An example of that is Caleb Surratt : he made a triple bogey while his team was leading, instead of letting that bother him, he refocused and made five birdies in a row and secured the win for is team.

  26. I don’t mind the scoreboard. It’s a bit busy to some but as a gamer who uses a hud and mini map a lot it’s ok. The scoreboard moving and changing isn’t new. It just has more data. If anyone paid attention they would have noticed this happens on the PgA/DP/LPGA/KLPGA scoreboards.

The team golf aspect is a bit meh to me. But the scoring method is actually interesting. The names have meaning to who ever but I don’t care. EPL has better names. Heck all other sports have better names except for two teams in Formula 1.

I hate the music. It’s terrible and too damn loud. Get better music and turn it down! I playing with lads who play music often but it’s enjoyable. Not the crap they play!

  27. I love the team component of the LIV Tour. Obviously, there are a lot to improve but on its 3rd season, it can’t be judged yet. It takes time for it to gain traction to a popular level. I am quite excited how this will be improved over the next couple of years.

  28. They should just replicate the Ryder cup format. The team format becomes interesting when you come down to the last couple of groups and it’s a battle between the top 2 teams and top 8 players.

  29. Golf fans need to watch it more than once or twice to get into it. And choose a team to follow and that will help too. Good luck.
