Instead of following up Sunday’s 33-point loss with another disappointing showing, the Sacramento Kings flipped the switch at the right time during Tuesday’s game in Detroit en route to a 131-110 win at Little Caesars Arena.
No time to celebrate though, as the Kings head to Charlotte to avenge their first loss of 2024.

It didn’t hear it and then just saw the box score you’re like oh cool Kings took care of business yeah technically sort of yeah like if he came in at the second half like yeah or half you saw half actually if you saw halftime and didn’t
Watch any of it you’re like oh man they’re only up three man come on Kings yeah they were down 20 and gave up 47 to Detroit that was nuts in the first and they probably should have scored 50 yeah easily I mean where they had 40 something like with like three minutes
Left in the quarter I’m like oh my gosh what is happening granted they were hitting everything but still the Kings let them I wouldn’t say let them but they were the team playing defense that allowed that um but they won that was the important thing and they ended up

Tonight on multiple occasions was responsible for the Sacramento Kings getting a convincing victory that was the Gman last night on the call right here on sack toown Sports we’ll be right back on the call tonight for the Kings and the Charlotte Hornets yeah what an adventure it was for Kings fans for the
Kings themselves in Detroit yesterday playing a three- win team we said you can’t really look at that record in that first quarter showed that I mean I I take notes during the game stuff I want to talk about in the postgame and stuff that uh I’ll talk about in shows to come
And I I every time there were certain benchmarks I’m like man I got to write this down can you believe what the Pistons are shooting and I put oh Pistons here I go uh Detroit start 30 to 15 Detroit 3217 uh buan bogdanovic was I don’t can’t even read
My own writing Could That Be Right could he been I don’t know if he was 10 for 10 but the team was 14 of 17 then they were 15 of 18 five of seven from three leading 3519 it just kept getting worse 3719 I wanted to make sure

When they were down 201 18 16 somewhere in there and Detroit was shooting like 81% I’m like all right well the kings are probably shooting like 20 the kings were shooting over 60% and they were down that much the kings were getting twos the Pistons were making threes at just a ridiculous rate
After one quarter the Pistons were 19 of 25 they had missed six shots they had made Seven threes one thing I always look at is three-point differential so how many more threes are you making after one quarter the Pistons had made seven so that’s 21 points on threes the
Kings had made zero a 21 point differential at the three-point line after the first quarter it was 4729 the amazing thing is the Kings had the lead by half I will say this it’s a win that’s what’s important they got it done uh by the end convincingly and they did show
Some glimpses of good defense in there some terrific offense as the game went along and they played a smarter game I mean they really exposed the Pistons in the paint but they played the right team last night they did um other teams could have had that first
Quarter on them other teams have had a quarter like that on them maybe not quite to that extreme but close and if they played a better team it would have been an awful result now what made this awful was how bad of a team Detroit was
And that’s why it was tough to watch at the beginning but again at the end it’s a victory I would say this is good game film that coach could show the team there you know they flew last night they’re in Charlotte there may be a little film session this morning but
Basically it’s about getting right back at it and hoping to find a way to get a sweep of this little two game start to the trip get revenge on Charlotte and uh just keep it pushing but a win is a win they got it done we’ll talk more about
This but quite a journey yesterday in Detroit cut two cut number two this one is going to be one that will sting and it will sting a bunch and you’ve got Orlando coming in one of the surprising teams of the Eastern conference tomorrow night it’s over horn sounds Charlotte
Streak is broken they get just their eighth win of the year and after losing 11 straight they come into Sacramento and the Kings who were feeling pretty good about themselves after a horrific start of a three-game road trip last week getting victories in Atlanta and Memphis and playing outstanding defense
Tonight they give this team 111 Sacramento scores only 104 they commit 20 won turnovers too much I can’t take it I don’t want to hear that anymore um there have been losses this year and the times look I look at social media I don’t comment as much on it as as much
As I look at it and see what people say and react to it um and and sometimes I get on day for that was like oh worst loss of the Year this this game I can’t handle this team and blah BL blah blah blah um I think sometimes people go too
Far but that was one like if they say that that broke you that game was the the most agonizing game to me um there’s been frustrating games and blowouts and disappointments and oh embarrass and all that that game I I was mad I was mad at the Kings hated their performance I
Thought they played low IQ basketball um everything everything in that game pointed towards the Kings they had all the advantages second night of a back-to-back for Charlotte they had just played in Denver they had guys out they weren’t playing well um it just was laid up perfectly for
Sacramento and they were playing the game at a slower pace and just kind of letting Charlotte hang around I’m like all right fine just win this game halftime gets here they’ll be okay they’ll win third quarter all right fourth quarter it’s right there I’m like yeah they’re gonna win it’s just why are
They doing this why they wait till the last two minutes to execute and then the last two minutes what I remember that game their execution was awful Charlotte finally passed him it was only like a three-point deficit which look you’re in a three-point game in the last two
Minutes you’re on your home floor you got the better players that’s a game you can win nine times out of 10 well this was the one and they got burned they didn’t play smart and it wasn’t that long ago so the good thing about that is

To make the shots that were available and present to him I mean there had to be more opportunities than one shot attempt for Harrison Barnes and he also had one rebound and one assist so there are some nights I feel like Keegan lets the game come to him too much I think
There’s a balance you want to let the game you don’t want to force things and he I would never I don’t know if I’ve ever accuse Keegan of forcing shots but he’s too good of a player to sit back so he’s got to find the balance and I think
He’s working through that and yesterday he got off to a slow start it was just quiet and I think when he picked up his defense we saw Monk and others start to pick up their defense and then Keegan’s offense really started to flourish I mean Sacramento ended up with a season
High points in the paint season High assists and just started to carve up Detroit and I thought Keegan was a big part of that sabonis was too and then Fox and monk but the more players they can add to the list that played well the better chances they win they found a way

I’m I’m just checking on you guys I know Dave is out of town but you know last week when we talked there was a little uh you know Kings hangover have we recovered we have you know last night the the Kings almost put us maybe another spot look when you when you play
A team that has a record like Detroit 3 and 33 going into the game uh the Kings ended up winning and that’s the bottom line I know you would say that as a player and as a coach but when the Kings gave up 47 points in the first quarter
And at one point we’re down by 20 I was thinking oh man is this going to be the worst one of the year but by the end uh they got it all together in one so yeah everything’s better in Kingsland right now all right well good yeah I I I I saw
I know I noticed the uh the big gun stepped up that kind of game that is you know and you feel for Detroit because everybody’s almost looking at playing them as their Super Bowl they don’t want to be the one yeah uh to to to break the
Streak and you need your leaders of your team to step up and and and lead and it it looked like they did that based on the stats I didn’t see the game I was out recruiting but it looked like they did that so that’s that’s a great side
Well how about you I me you’ve had that obviously you know that as a player you you’ve walked into gyms where you’re that team that doesn’t have the wins and you’ve been on teams that hey we’re probably supposed to win tonight how do you do that now as a coach if you’re you
Know coaching Davis or your other stops where each side of that where you look at it like I’m sure the motivation might be easier when you’re the team looking at someone else that’s a juggernaut and you’re heavy underdogs it’s like us against the world but how about when
It’s the flip side and you’re playing a team that on paper which I know you don’t do it play it on paper but you should win how do you handle those games as a coach yeah I think you you’ve got to find ways to challenge your team
Mentally and you know get them to refocus to make sure that they understand the the uh the magnitude of of a competition and you know it’s human nature especially with as much as that’s out there now on social media you can see everything and people see all the
Stats and the records and the comments and you know that that can weigh on you and and that can almost be a deterrent as you play a team maybe that you’re supposed to win so as a coach you’re just trying to find some other challenges and mental approaches the
Game within the game you know hey for this four minute segment for in college you know we get yeah TV timeouts every four minutes hey for this four minute secondment we want to hold them uh you know to 10 points or we want to hold
Them you know to uh you know 30% field goal percentage shooting and challenge them next time out with with those and and keep it um shortterm for your team short-term Focus but really challenge them in those areas versus the big picture of a win or a loss I think
Sometimes you get caught up in the end result and you lose track of the process what’s the balance you have coach on constantly working your team coaching your team weing about Davis as opposed to like this week for example you got Northridge um I know you’re going to
Know what they run and what you want to stop and key players but I guess what I’m asking is are you worried more about what you guys are trying to do and improve upon as opposed to how much are you coaching against the opponent if that makes sense yeah I I think there’s
A there’s always a balance and uh it it’s not an easy balance but you know we we’ve been in a situation where we’ve won four of our last five and so you want to continue to build upon and for for us that success has been uh our defense our pressure creating turnovers
Uh we’ve been doing a really nice job on the boards and and taking care of the basketball so we we we want to make sure we’re continuing to feed that fire but also challenging them uh we we lose a tough overtime game on Saturday to Irvine and and we didn’t really think
Our physicality around the rim on both ends of the floor finishing around the rim as well as defending around the rim and rebounding was as good as it could be so as much as we want to accentuate the positive we we want to continue to challenge them to get better in some of
Those areas and then you know I I I always believe you know you do have to spend time on your opponent and you know you’re looking at their sets and you’re you’re finding some keys I’m not going to show them 20 different sets uh as maybe they might do in the NBA because
Because teams so run so many things but we want to take the the three or four things that they do the most and try and take those actions away uh from the other team where they’re having success and if we feel like if we can do that and continue to accentuate our positive
We’re going to put ourselves in a position uh to win games you mentioned not liking the you know maybe missing that physical element at some pieces in that game against Irvine is that something you show on film you uh I don’t know coach an aggressive drill or
Two in practice or maybe you have a guy or two that that is more physical you’re like I need to play that player how do you how do you handle that improving from game to game yeah I I think that’s it’s it’s all of the above we we showed
It to him on film uh and you know just to give him the visual and then you know in the in the middle of the Season as as late as we are and we’re in the conference season we don’t we don’t want to lose anybody on on on the practice
Floor so so we break out the blue pads it’s it’s amazing how tough we get when those blue pads come out and we’re and we’re pretty physical and begging the pads when there’s a a manager or a coach on it when when I grab the pad we get
Really physical uh those guys love hitting that pad when when coach has it but uh so and and then it’s as you said Jason it’s challenging you know a couple of your players who need to set the tone for us uh physically as we’re talking with Jim Les

Third but 18 in the second and 15 in the fourth that’s a total of 33 points so it was uneven it was a win they got serious at times defensively and from after the first quarter the Kings outscored the Pistons 102 to 63 so the the theme of the 2023 2024 Sacramento Kings
Remains Talent potential offensive potential but some inconsistency and some frustration along that and I don’t think this is even an expectation thing in the win loss column I think that’s what we need to separate when the statement is I think expectations have grown and they have and right now the
Kings are considerably better than a year ago at this time the Kings threw 38 games last year were 20 and 18 so still you know the 0 and4 start and like yeah after 0 and four they figured it all out well close to 500 near the midpoint of the Season
201 and8 then they really started to go from near the All-Star break on they played really good basketball much better percentage 22 and 14 so they’re ahead of that pace of last year track around 50 wins that’s great it’s a good season haven’t had many of those in the history of the Sacramento
Kings but it’s it’s a team that has frustrated probably the coach probably the players I certainly know and I see from you guys on the text line on YouTube myself included the fans it’s been a frustrating group and I saw social media like I said last night of course of course the kings
Are going to lose to the Pistons look at this look at the way they’re playing and that’s the way it was tracking and they redirected got it done and the fact that they kind of had to do that is bothersome you would have loved a wire-to-wire complete control of
