I find one of the biggest problems in the general population with you guys trying to manage your golf swing is that you’re focusing too much on the movements of the swing and you’re concerned with everything that’s happening over here at the ball and after the ball you’re concerned with
This area all out here that’s not where good swings live no matter what swing style you use that’s not where good swings live good swings live in your core so in the swing style that I teach I teach you to keep your core still many other swing Styles they teach you to
Move your core but good players how they become good is by focusing on your core not on the movements of your hands and arms during the swing now this is one of the hardest things that you have to do in the general population because I get it it’s really intoxicating it’s very easy
To get seduced into focusing on the movements of your hands and arms but if you look at the results of the general population it should be clear that that does not produce anything of any value instead you have to know no matter what swing style you are learning you have to
Focus on the core now most swing Styles teach you to move your core throughout the swing and that means you have to coordinate your hands with your core to move them fluidly throughout the swing I can tell you from being able to do that it’s very difficult to do consistently
Now this is the reason why I teach that during the swing yes focus on your core but don’t focus on moving it preset it in the setup position so that you don’t have to move it and then during the swing just focus on keeping your core
Still now a lot of you your first response will be Jim that makes sense but isn’t that just an arm swing and I can assure you that it’s not an arm swing in fact when you keep your body still you’re using your body that is how the body works that’s why an athlete
Moves less than a non-athlete that’s the big difference and that’s with the joy of watching anybody that’s coordinated they have a Stillness in their core that allows their appendages to do what needs to be done now if you think that to hit a golf ball you got to move your body
Like this move your body like that then your life as a golfer is going to be miserable because that’s very difficult to do and the only reason why you’re doing it is because you think that’s required in order to create power and I can promise you it’s not I stay still
And create a lot of power I Source my power instead of from moving my body in some sort of coordinated and aggressive way I Source my power from good swing path I use the club I let the club do the work so watch me when I get set up
I’m not concerned with what’s going to happen over here I’m concerned with what’s happening right here my core and I’m going to hold my core still I’ve set my body close so that I can have an inside out swing path I’ve loaded my weight on my lead foot so
That I can have a descending swing path and I’m going to keep my weight still so that I can have a circular swing path that all adds up to power and the best part is it’s low stress on your body and it’s easy to perform relative to moving your body
It’s far easier to perform so watch me once I get set now the movements have been taken care of the way I put my hands on the club the way I’ve arranged my body has dictated what this club’s going to do throughout the swing my arms
Aren’t just going to fall off and run away they’re going to respond to my core now if I could trust that then I could focus on the core and I could allow my arms to Simply travel throughout the swing based upon the requirement the preset of my setup position now it’s through monitoring
Stillness that you’re going to do multiple things one you’re going to play much better golf it’s far easier to stay still and it’s more tangible to stay still than it is to Monitor and manage movements throughout the swing so as soon as you start focusing on Stillness your life gets better plus
You’re not going to be over thoughtful about all the movements of the Swing which is going to reduce the burden and the weight you have on your mind when you go play golf I know what it’s like to be you I know what it’s like to chase
The movements and to focus on the outside of the Swing it’s miserable when you focus on Stillness you’ll have some clarity when you play so that you’re not worried about this minutia that you can’t even have the aptitude to First be able to create and second be able to identify what you’re
Doing wrong instead you’re going to focus on Stillness and it’s going to free you of the burden of focusing on your hands and arms now some of you might think that it’s going to be difficult to disregard your hands and arms but you do it every
Day every time you walk down the street you disregard your hands and arms they swing at your side they don’t bump into your hips they don’t bump into people that you’re walking next to they swing at your side according to the position of your body well that’s what they’re
Doing here I’ve preset the core so that now my arms can swing according to the position of my body so then during the swing I just have to focus on keeping this still and letting my hands and arms go honestly it’s one of the most freeing experiences for you guys in the general
Population because I’m sure any of you watching this video could answer the question 100% that you focus on doing something during the swing with the club with your arms with your hands in order to produce a good result it’s well- intended but it’s not how it
Works instead I’m going to stay here and I’m going to disregard my hands and not because I don’t care about them but because I’ve already set their movements in the setup position so I don’t have to be concerned with it Focus here don’t Focus around here
You’ll see at first it’s going to be hard for you because you’re so used to focusing on your hands and arms in the club that it’s going to be a bit of a distraction to let them go go but 50 balls in 100 Balls in you
Start to let go of your hands and arms you just focus on Stillness you’re going to hit some really beautiful golf shots and it’s at that point where you have the chance to say you know what I’m going to pursue Stillness I’m going to leave all this nonsense of managing the
Movements of the Swing I’m going to leave that all behind and I’m going to pursue Stillness because watch this even in the most rudimentary way so once I set closed I’m going to make what I would call a more beginner version of the Swing it’s
Not going to be near as Dynamic but I’m going to conform to the same principles I’m going to preset the movements I’m going to try to stay still you see the resulting shot is all you guys could ever wish for in the general population that there is so love lovely
That’s 135 yard seven iron all day long that’s the most basic and rudimentary version of what I’m asking you to do that might be 145 look at me I’m getting comfortable with it so when you go play if you want to be freed of the chains of trying to manage the movements
Of the swing I’ll give you something else to focus on focus on Stillness if you set up properly if you stay still if you don’t swing too hard you’re going to hit some of the most beautiful shots of your life and the coolest part is they’re going to feel easy to repeat

I love the swing. It has changed my game. Now hitting my 7 iron like a 5 iron. Will be signing up for the course. I know I’m missing out on major items. Best round I ever played. Went from major divots to a shallow descending swing
Very interesting, I noticed on your first swings you start moving, but it looks like you start moving at contact. correct me if I'm wrong. I tried it once before it didn't work for me maybe I was doing it wrong, but I will definitely give it another try. Thanks.

I hear you but you do bump laterally on the downswing. Is that bump a reaction to the closed stance and the momentum of the swing path?
The most progress I ever made was when I stopped letting myself move in any direction. Not up, down, left, or right. The most amazing feeling and it eliminated so many HORRIBLY TRAGIC shots. I can 100% confirm this is the best tip for most golfers. Great video!

Hello Jim, traditional golf instructions teach us to rotate the body during the backswing until the left shoulder is under and touching our chin. Could you compare and explain this traditional skill with our method? Thanks.
I have been a fan and student of Jim for the last five or so years. I signed up for the course for a period of time and tried to learn everything that I could. I have at different times thought I had come across the secret to consistently playing well like Jim does. Not until today did it finally dawn on me that not one single aspect of the swing outside of my core was going to solve my dilemma. Focusing on the core after setting up as best I could in the position that he recommends I was able to significantly reduce my strokes on a very difficult but short course. Thanks for this last video Jim it is a godsend.
Do you place the ball on your back foot for every club?

Jim, your setup….. your right foot is dropped back some and flared out? In the video I couldn’t really tell what your target line was, so I couldn’t really how far back your right foot might be
