Jim Ah that’s good uh I was just telling John it was the weirdest four days of my life I in a 108 hour period I had 10 hours of sleep and it wasn’t because of anything other than I it was warm and I think I I just

I sat outside at night and smoked cigars and was just answering comments and things like that on the phone and it was crazy but uh very enjoyable to uh enjoy that warmth for a minute and watch some great high school basketball if you want

To call it High School it was kind of a step up uh from high school kind of in between there but uh incredible uh games that I got to see six all-americans in the in the championship game of the Mont ver Invitational that I watched between

Prolific prep and and Mont ver uh which was a great game that went right down to the end uh Mont ver pushed to the very ends there but they come out Victorious and Indiana uh s Liam mcney was the leading scorer in that game with 19

Points a big reason for that but I I know you were busy covering uh Indiana high school basketball with some uh equal powerhouses as well but how was your weekend so Warren Central and North Central uh was the assignment for me and both those teams you look at the Sager

Ratings are inside of the top 20 it’s a Warren Central team playing with their point guard right now in terms of Zeke Kirby and I If that had a direct impact in north central getting a a 5448 win you know in a lot of sectionals one of

Those two teams would be the favorite those guys are probably fourth or fifth uh in the sectional they’re in because of Lawrence North being undefeated because of addex being the city Champs uh because of Cathedral uh you know being one of the best teams in the state

But I think maybe you know what we’ve seen the last three or four days is probably pretty indicative uh of what the high school basketball postseason going to look like which could be complete Carnage or complete surprise uh because Lawrence North won on Wednesday against a good new pal team but they

Beat New Pal by nine they trailed for a good chunk of that game New Pal was without their starting point guard in Moses haes Julius gizy was tremendous uh for for New Pal in that game think he finished with 35 3 six uh at this point

Uh so so Ln is now the clear number one team because the Fisher’s getting beat on Saturday Carmel has now won four in a row and Carmel won that game 5446 but again this is not a year like last year where Ben Davis was really 10 to 15 points better than virtually

Anybody they would play there are teams that have separated themselves from the pack especially in 4A but but they’re not un beatable uh and so Lawrence North remains unbeaten Greenfield Central does not play the schedule uh that Len does but they’ve got a superior player in brayan Mullins who had

51 on Friday night including a game-winning three in double over time for them to stay unbeaten not just a game-winning three wasn’t that kind of a just unbelievable I can’t believe that shot went in three yeah but you know what I’ve seen the kid did a three

Quarter court shot in the game earlier this year uh they’re you’re almost surprised when brillin don’t don’t go in uh but again just to be be blunt about it um you know anything could happen once the calendar flips from February to March uh there are probably more

Potential winners in 4A than we have had in quite sometime well and that makes it fun uh that is what makes it more exciting because I hate when you and any in high school you don’t usually have that but sometimes you do but uh I don’t like

When you you just know who’s going to win going in it’s just how it’s going to be I I love it when it’s like wow well it’s like college basketball right now there’s there’s people that are number one but let me tell you uh none of the

If Perdue got upset not shocked if uh Kansas gets upset you’re not shocked it doesn’t matter who gets upset you can’t be shocked and I love I love that was especially in Indiana high school basketball uh because it is just that’s what Indiana high school basketball

Ball’s about I kind of go in both directions on it like like I’m okay with seeing the team that is a potential record setting team you know kind of like Ben Davis was last year most wins in undefeated season you know we had that as well with Warren Central in 2018

Out so many people’s attention was on Romeo Langford and New Albany that you know kind of Warren’s quest for an unbeaten season and 32 wins in an unbeaten season at the time was kind of overshadowed until until Warren beat New Albany uh in the in the semi-state game

You know there at Seymour I was under the basket for that shot yeah um I was I was the opposite corner on the radio call so I was right there with you um but but you know so so I’m good either way uh and so maybe it’s fitting that a

Year after we have this team okay can they complete this quest for history are they amongst the best of the best to ever play um that we get a a competitively balanced year but again I I don’t think you know sometimes people get parody and mediocrity confused um I

Don’t think this is a year of mediocre I think this is a year of really good and multiple teams that that if the things bounce their way could be a state champion come March 30th if you had to pick someone right now who would that be Lawrence North again again they’re

They’re they’re the last unbeaten to top and again I acknowledge Greenfield Central is is is a top they’ve been so consistent though right and and Mullins is such a good player So Greenfield deserves a mention um but the storylines are is is that the best teams

That seem to be all located in Central Indiana there’s other great teams in their sectional there’s no guarantee so again let’s let let’s let’s take the the two most talked about sectionals in this area sectional eight the Hamilton County sectional at Noblesville this year you know fisers and Westfield have just lost

Their first games of the year in the last uh two weeks they’ll play each other I think coming up on Thursday night actually and then fisers plays Lawrence North on February the 13th there’s no guarantee those two teams get out of the sectional again again Carmel just beat fisers Carmel was was four-

Nine they’re now eight- nine um you know they’ve doubled their win total in the last two weekends against really good competition Noblesville is a really good team and came close to beating both fisers and Westfield so as good as Fishers in Westfield are there’s no guarantee to get out of their sectional

You’d say the exact same thing about Lawrence North you they have a one-point win against addex that’s County champ versus City champ um adex just got beat by Ben Davis on on Saturday so oh my God they did holy cow right so so I mean it’s it’s just one of those years where

There’s a lot of really good teams and nobody has a guaranteed path nothing close to it and I think that’s what makes it this is going to be a great year it’s funny it’s an supposed off year as far as the talent level in the state but

What it has given is a great level of T of talent and teams in the state and You Don’t Know Jack and I love that well it’s it’s an off year in terms of talent of the senior class uh it it is a a at the top end compared to how spoiled we

Have been for the better part of the last 15 or 20 years it is a down year there you know in terms of you know kind of major college kids obviously Flor going to going to Kansas and now being McDonald’s All-American Jack Benner going to Purdue you’ve got KJ Windam but

Ben Davis going to Northwestern then you start to see a drop off of that group and obviously Canon Catchings leaving the state going to play for overtime Elite has an effect on them but this is kind of a thin class anyway but that is followed up by a

Ridiculously deep junior class and again that’s what jayen harelson leaving and going to leaport L lumir and again I realize that’s the state of India I get it it’s no longer Indiana high school basketball it’s it that that that’s the teams that you saw this weekend that

Play more of a National schedule and again it’s it’s to me it’s it’s it’s somewhere in between high school and college basketball and good for him that’s the choice that he made and and and God bless him for it but the junior class in this state is you know almost

Going to be kind of be on par with maybe the group that we saw three years ago the 2021 All-Star class you know were like you know Blake Wesley could be Mr basketball he’s playing in the NBA right now um that’s the level of clash you’re looking at I think for the juniors

That’ll graduate in 2025 do you guys keep a list of of uh players and their college picks I mean I I kind of have that in my head uh well of course in terms of of uh but but but nothing like a formal I

Would like to take I would like to put a a memory chip into your brain so I could pull it out and use it yeah so so nothing official let’s put it that way Jim how about that but yeah that that’s it’s incredible to see though still even in an quote unquote

Offe uh it it’s off to Indiana but still Superior to most other places well it’s G it’s gonna make the Indiana Kentucky series a bit more interesting obviously Indiana has dominated that now Kentucky won in their own building last year for Indiana then came back and beat them at

Gamebridge Fieldhouse you know Kentucky has has a young man that just surpassed 5,000 career points that is heading to play at the University of Kentucky uh the kid from Lion County and obviously how you how do you get 5,000 points in high school well you shoot a lot

Obviously uh but lot of Threes you you get to play in seventh and eighth grade in Kentucky as well uh and so that that obviously extends that uh a fair amount but this is probably the year where is going to really have to hustle to make

Sure they don’t get swept by Kentucky we have not said that in a long time all that has not happened in 25 years probably I do have a list of that I don’t have it off the top of my head that that is usually more at the

Front of my brain saying early June than it is in late January but it I think it’s mid 90s I think it was the last time it happened it it probably would have happened in 2004 had Chris Lofton not turned his ankle in the first six minutes of the game

At at gamebridge Fieldhouse because they won handling in Owensboro that was still when it was over the course of two weeks and uh he had 41 I think in the game at the sports center Owensboro of course he went on to play at the University of Tennessee for those that don’t remember

Uh and was probably in line to do something like that here against Indiana and he kind of stepped on either Courtney Lee or George Hills foot one of the two and that was the end of his night you mentioned looo lir uh I think their next game is up in New Jersey

Against Mont ver uh which uh boy I wish I could see that that would be a great game to see but I after having seen monver up close and personal it’s they’re just a monster uh I mean a monster you’ve got a guy in um Liam McNeely who went scoreless the

Night before the championship game he just shot five times and didn’t push it but when scoreless the next night he’s the leading score in the championship game against another great team uh but this is a team that has five starters that are going to Indiana Georgia Duke uh LSU and I’m I’m

Leaving one off but uh and it’s just it’s crazy and as a matter of fact they they beat the in their first opening night game they beat it was the worst beat down of any game any team of any level I’ve ever seen they scored 104 points in three

Quarters but there is a kid that came off the bench who’s from Brazil 66 kid uh and he ended up being the leading scorer for the game and I was like and he has no no scholarship offers he’s only been in the country for two years

Nobody knows about him send him our away at IUI we could use the help he’s a he’s a hidden gy I’m telling you he’s a hidden gy but hey thanks a lot what’s up next for you guys all right so this is the girl sectional week so so schedule

Gets a little wonky this week so a lot of the top boys games get played on Thursday and Saturday afternoon so Carmel just beat one number one in fisers they get the other number one at home next so Carmel and Lawrence North it’s my game on Thursday night and then

From a girl sectional standpoint uh we kind of focus on we try to pick what we think the best matchup is locally going to be and so we are projecting that to be Friday night when we think Lawrence Central and Lawrence North will play for a third time this year the first two

Matchups won by Lawrence Central by a combined total of five points if you include their two matchups last year their last four times they have played have been by a combined total of seven points LC is number one they’ve got one loss it was to a team from Kentucky so

They are the favorite going in Ln is also in the top 10 Lawrence Central has won one girls basketball sexual in school history 1987 Jim they have not won a postseason game a game since 2001 so this is a remarkable change of course for the history of that program

And so should be Lawrence Central Lawrence North because they play it at Cathedral that play seats about 12 or 1300 that place is going to be packed on Friday night so that is our game coming up on Friday night so just two high school basketball games for us this week

Voice of the Indiana hoers Don fiser how are you sir well I’m a lot weaker voice than you think because I did not do the entire ball game on Saturday because of laryngitis which I am fighting as we speak so I’m I’m a little weak at this

Point well I appreciate you taking the time to join us I know that that is difficult and has that ever happened where you did a partial game I I wasn’t aware of that uh I had I did I did the first two segments of the game I we got

To the second television timeout and I had to turn the play-by-play over to John Herrick who obviously does the pregame halftime postgame stuff for us and he’s a really good play-by-play guy who works a lot in Indianapolis with high school games and stuff in fact got a night High School game the night

Before but um obviously John took over for me after that second television timeout and did the rest of the contest because my voice was just shot and it’s not great right now but it’s better than it was trust me well and uh that game

Was a a a a close game we uh one of the things that I talked about heading into that is whether or not what Indiana team would we see would we see a team that was just uh Lolly gagging going through the motion or a team that will show

Fight and grit and determination and and I think that we saw that we saw a team that fought for a win that that tried to win that did the things that they need to do besides some uh a few dumb mistakes but um and not having kle wear

Uh to to have played that well and to play to have played Illinois that well on the road without him was a good sign at least but I’m starting to worry that it’s too little too late well here’s the thing um the eight days that they had between ball games last

Week I think gave them an opportunity to refocus um what’s the identity of this basketball team well it hasn’t really had one this year because defensive play which has been the identity for the last couple of years that being the key to that ball Club success I think uh

Obviously Trace Jackson Davis and and some of those other players were always a factor too but you’ve got to have an identity and I didn’t think Indiana this year established that defensive identity they’ve had the last couple of years um but in this ball game they did that and

Uh I thought the 8 Days probably had a chance to get these guys refocused looked in the mirror uh what are we trying to do here and that’s what we saw an improvement in their effort an improvement in the intensity level with which they played and without question

They played their best defensive game in some time now in my opinion uh against Illinois it was a 62 all tie with a minute and 20 seconds to go and then Indiana couldn’t make free throws and didn’t make any plays where Illinois made all of them in that minute and 20

And made it an eight-point win for the Ali ey and that’s disappointing no question about that but at the same time this is a basketball team that may have found their footing again and obviously they’ve got two big ball games coming up this week in which we hope uh they will

Show that yeah you mentioned the free throw something we’ve talked about all year long and how it would have put them in a better position well this was actually a time where it really could have helped them win a game and they failed to do that and it’s still I I

Don’t want to be I hate to be negative but I I I can’t understand it I I do not I cannot comprehend how any team that has good basketball players shoots free throws so unbelievably horribly free throws are not that difficult I’ve done it and I am

Terrible and so I’m like I I I say it all the time time I’m like I will take any challenge that I can shoot 65% myself right now uh and I so I don’t get it and it it it cost him this time there’s no question it did um they were

Only 54% for the game 12 of 22 and uh a good many of those misses I think at least three maybe four in that last minute and 20 seconds uh uh I I can’t answer the question why they can’t shoot free throws better you got Trey Galloway

Who’s hitting like 50% in Big 10 play from the free throw line um I mean all the all the guys have dropped their percentages uh Xavier Johnson’s now hitting 61% in Big 10 play Galloway 36% in Big 10 play think about that uh where

Is down we is down to 47% when he’s been shooting free throws 62% for bik renew and Bako has also gone uh slid after he was tremendous for the first uh 90% of this season he started to slide a little bit although he he made I think every free throw that he

Took with the exception of maybe one I gotta go back and look here real quick uh McKenzie uh he was four for four at the line so he’s kind of back to his normal again but he’s still shooting way under 90% which is where he was at

Before so you’ve got a ball Club right now that can’t make free throws they made no threes in this ball game they were 0 for nine in that regard that’s um the lowest Indiana hasn’t been shot out in three-point field goals since 2010 14 I think I think it was 14 well

It’s been longer than 10 years I can tell you that uh since they’ve not made was 14 years supposed to be 14 years I think right right 14 I think it’s 14 years that they have not uh that’s the last time that they didn’t make a a

Three-point field goal in a ball game so um it it’s it’s an ongoing issue for the ball Club it’s an ongoing issue for this program for the last several years now free throws and three-point field goal shooting have been a real issue for all of these teams in the last uh five to

Six seven years now um I don’t know how you fix it except you got to get guys who can shoot on your roster it’s that simple yep absolutely and they have an Iowa team coming in that is an opportunity Iowa has not playing their greatest basketball and but this is a

Team that that came into Bloomington last year and won the won the game and and cost Indiana a shot at winning the Big 10 title Indiana was in the race last year and this was one of those losses that you really uh shook your head at so this is another opportunity

Where Indiana has to get off the mat being at home you’re goingon to have no excuse to not do that well Iowa was a ball club that has identical record to Indiana they are four- five in the league they’re 12-8 on the season they have done had some of the same problems

That Indiana’s had I think they had a little winning streak they beat ruter Nebraska and Minnesota uh three games in a row then they lost to Purdue in Maryland and then they beat Michigan over the weekend so this is a team that Indiana can handle if they play up to

Their capability but khil wear getting back is a critical factor I think for this ball Club right now they’ve got to play the same kind of defense that they played in that game against Illinois if they’re going to beat anybody the rest of this season because that defense that

They played on Saturday was special and I say that because of the effort the intensity level and the fact that they played it for 40 minutes so the that if they can get back to that kind of defensive play and then start to find their offense a little bit with where

Back in the lineup hopefully Tuesday night we don’t know for sure we’ll find out perhaps more about Mike Woodson’s thoughts on that tonight on the talk show but at any rate uh I think it’s critical to get where back he will help this ball Club hopefully get back to

Where they have previously played some of their best basketball uh absolutely and we this is something that they need I I I think postseason play is something that’s Out Of Reach now but it’s not about postseason play it’s about setting yourself up if even if that falls apart you have to play your

Best basketball going out you cannot end a season just on a downward Trend because that will affect next year I don’t care what anybody thinks yeah there’s no well if you if you end the year playing kind of like Indiana has over the past couple of weeks um if you

End the season in that same realm uh it’s going to be really a Troublesome scenario because here’s the other thing Indiana’s got a bunch of scholarships available they’ve only got one one incoming freshman at this point and that’s leam mcne who has already signed for Indi with Indiana uh they’ve got no

Other freshmen that have signed any kind of a of an agreement to come to play at IU and now you’re trying to get transfer portal guys that fit your program uh and that’s I think that’s going to be a critical factor for Indiana next year whether they go on a

Winning streak here or not um you’ve got to be able to find players that fit what you’re trying to do uh guys that are gymrats guys that are uh Shooters um those are critical factors for next season and if you’re on a downward Trend at the end of this year um it’s not

Going to be pretty and you’re going to have a tough time getting some of those players to come yeah uh guys like Dalton connect who they tried to get and were not successful and who has become possibly the best player in America right now he is I mean I know that that

Zack e is going to get all the awards but to be honest with you Zack is Zack because he’s 7 foot a th000 uh Dalton connect is just really a great player who is going to probably end up playing in the in the big league

Uh for for a while well I I don’t know anything about him I’ve not seen him play I know the accolades he’s getting but um yeah there’s no question uh but but Indiana has to find guys that fit uh that’s going to be the critical thing

Right now you got to have guys that fit and I hope that they find a vocal leader in this next group that they bring in because that to me right now is kind of what’s missing well not that just that a vocal leader that also leads by example

And and and that’s I think that’s where the disconnect has been it’s kind of hard to I don’t I don’t want to cut on Xavier but it’s kind of hard to to count on him as your leader when he has made the mistakes that he’s made and yet

Again he gets a technical in this last game which uh you can look at that as uh but you know the rule you don’t touch the the damn ball after it goes through and so but it is what it is yeah it’s it it was not egregious on his part but

Here’s the thing that and this is what I don’t understand about X he knows these officials are looking at him and he knows it because of his previous scenarios that he’s taken that he’s done how he reacts to fils being called on him officials are watching X and X has

Got to recognize that and beond his absolute best behavior every time he walks out on the floor quit reacting to every file call and those kinds of things like you’ve just been shot uh those are the kinds of things that you just can’t do um really I mean the truth

Of the matter is he brings this on himself he’s brought it on himself stop doing that it’s just crazy absolutely I think he needs to bring the uh officials flowers in each game and and present them with a bouquet and some a box of chocolats maybe something uh so uh up

Have won uh three three straight yeah and that not only have they won three straight theyve beaten a couple of great teams in the 76ers the Suns uh Memphis Memphis is not a great team but um Memphis I I I mean Trap game wasn’t really the word but I do think it’s an

Important one like me Memphis will beat the crap out of you like Memphis like reminds me of like me Memphis is to the NBA what what like ruter and Wisconsin are to the Big 10 like they will just make you miserable like even if they’re even the

Years when they’re not good they can run a whole bunch of guys out there they can beat the crap out of you um and like they started David momentarily lost Dustin there for a second but they went over the Suns uh on the 21st the one 17

1110 oh no I’m sorry the Suns beat the Pacers in that game I misre that one but uh they beat the Nuggets nope lost to the Nuggets I’m too far up so they beat the Grizzlies last they beat the Suns in the game before that in a tight one 133 to

131 and the night before that they beat Philadelphia 134 122 in probably the toughest game of the three three I would imagine uh that that’s a big time win back with us and Maxine as well Maxine agrees with everything I just finished saying uh in that win over big

Time the win over the 76ers you were talking about the Grizzlies being a team that make you makes you work uh and then you’ve got the 76ers who is just a good team and has some really good MVP yeah in Joel embiid um no I mean there’s

Just there are so many things that they can do different now uh with seak that put them in in in really good shape I think ways they can defend guys you know just ways they can get um just different kinds of contributions from different people Miles Turner played a great game

In that one but seak had a triple double um just a lot of pieces coming together well I like you said they’ve only had halberton and seak together for one game uh and then it seemed like um they won’t say that halberton tweaked the hamstring but they’ve obviously gone back on that

Since but like you you have seen the chemistry come together for the remaining players and what that looks like is you’ve got seum basically moving a lot of guys to places where they makes sense um they haven’t had anybody who could defend to power forward um you

Know who can really operate in that space but also he can handle and shoot and pass and everything and he sets guys up um so just he puts everybody in a lot better position on offense and on defense they can defend guys that they’re supposed to be be defending

Instead of just having some mismatches you know Aaron was guarding guys that were five six seven inches taller than him now he’s guarding guys that make sense he’s going against you know you know guards and small forwards um everything is kind of coming together well both of those games were really

Impressive both the uh Philly game and and the Phoenix game but I mean Memphis I think for them to follow up and win that game was a was a big deal um because I think it’s just one of those games they could have easily lost um

Asleep a little bit what’s up yeah I mean they were missing Miles Turner had some back spasms T.J McConnell couldn’t make it down apparently uh uh one of his kids was sick so he had something going on he couldn’t make it down obviously he’s been uh really a big piece of the

Soul of that team uh especially with Halbert and out so I mean that’s missing some important guys and they still managed to put that one away and that that was an important deal and seak was a big piece of that too so um no a lot of things coming together for them um

Quickly I me I think it took a minute obviously for them to just be able to integrate SE yakum it took until what was it Wednesday it was either I think it was Wednesday was their first practice with him uh because he just joined them on the road

You know just got into Portland and had to play a game had to play two nights of a backtack you know Phoenix you know Portland and Phoenix um then came back and you know they obviously flew back Monday or they flew back Sunday night they took Monday off uh they played I

Think Denver on Tuesday and so out of all that those three games he didn’t have a chance to practice so finally Wednesday they got to practice since they were like a different team Thursday and Friday night just by have having exactly and uh when we get Dustin back

Again uh as he’s having a little connection problem I want to ask how in the hell does Indiana how does getting back to the 76ers game how how does Indiana outrebound them 55- 31 I mean that’s a substantial W margin yeah no I mean they

They do a good job of chasing him down I me obviously embiid’s a problem now you know was missing some important guys they’re missing Tobias Harris which is a big piece of their rebounding uh equation so that was certainly helpful um but I mean in that case I mean

Indiana had more length after embiid I me obviously embiid is massive uh but Turner did a really good job of rebounding SE yakum did a phenomenal job of rebounding Aaron neith I think is rebounding his position now and that makes his life a lot easier I mean obviously for like how he’s defending

Helps but you know uh rebounding is a three versus a four I mean it’s just he’s boxing out people that he can actually box out you know as opposed to guys that can jump over him um you know like it’s just everything seaka makes the matchups work um and this guys that

Have been fighting you know losing battles uh against players that you know just had size advantages on them that they couldn’t make up for um you know now now they’re fighting against people that are their own size and they can win and SE yakum is going against guys that

Are his own size and he’s beating them it just goes a long way just that you have matchups that work um I think that’s just been the biggest thing is is the matchups work now um you know they’re not no one’s going against somebody they don’t have a chance

Against um and that’s you know they can defend better they can rebound better just that those sides the ball get a lot better and obviously they can obvious they can seriously score and SE yakum doesn’t drag them down in any way shape or form um and but just they can win on

The glass now they haven’t been a great rebounding team and that’s been part of the reason is you know they they’ve been able to rebound at Center um where they’re mostly even up with everybody else you know guys like Jaylen Smith can really you know grab boards um but

They’d been you know even really Before Christmas when they made a switch to put Jaylen Smith in the starting lineup I mean they were just overmatched on the glass uh you know from one to four but really at four and three um was the place where they were really hurting

Because it was mathine or or heeled playing the three um and N Smith at the four and just you’re losing that battle and Obby toin is just an okay rebounder um h’ been starting at the four for a while and so they were losing those and you know with yakum there they’re

Winning those it’s just just changes the the math changes the geometry um you know just changes the height advantages up now they have matchups that make sense and they can win them and not only that you look at the assists in in that Philadelphia game 35 to 24 they’re

Sharing the ball and getting all these this scoring as well they’re scoring a lot of points but when you’re sharing the ball like that that makes scoring a hell of a lot easier yeah I mean they already had that that was sort of like roped into their DNA to start with just

From halberton um you know just from the way he plays the game um and just their General approach to basketball is just you know Pop the ball around and you know find the easiest shot uh and they’re really good at it they’ve been good at it from the

Beginning so but you add SE yakum to that and SE yakum plays that way you know to start with again you’ve got a power forward who can really pass and really handle uh and again he’s six eight with a Sev re wingspan so you get

A guy that’s got you know he can handle the ball in traffic did a really good job of doing that yesterday against Memphis and fine guys um you know I mean he’s looking to pass he is an unselfish player um and so you get a guy that can

Score to really be your second level you know your number two scorer um but also likes to to pass the ball you know almost as much as your number one scorer does and that just creates um a really really balanced attack I mean I think um almost every game that they’ve had since

Halle Burton’s been out um they’ve had seven guys in double figures you know a seven guys and double figures so all of your starters and two bench guys uh are are getting to at least double figures and that’s you know and and you know that’s been a standard um for them most

Of the year they’ve got eight you know I know at the the time of the trade um you know which this included Bruce Brown they had eight guys in double figures I think they still do um averaging eight you know play eight guys averaging in double figures I mean that that just

Tells you so much about what they do me they’re leading the league and assists um you know uh and that’s that’s how they operate that’s how they play and and that’s ingrained uh in such a way is that if if Halle Burton’s out it doesn’t change you know I mean obviously

Halberton can make plays that nobody else can make I mean he you know he he can shoot as soon as he crosses the timeline um and that changes the you know geometry drastically but as far as just pushing the pace moving the ball um that’s ingrained so that whether

Halton’s there or not that’s still what they do yeah and then they’ve got the Celtics uh in Boston tomorrow night and then they play the Knicks after that but uh and even looking forward they have the Warriors at at home on February 88th uh on a Thursday

So uh looking forward to that game right yeah no lot going on at Sacramento on the uh I think it’s the second then they’re on the road for the fourth and then I got I think the sixth home game is the Sixth and the eighth and I know I

Know it’s definitely Golden State in there I mean Golden State’s quite beatable right now um you know that’s definitely certainly it’s always a fun game to watch to come see Superstars you know like Steph Curry um and you know Golden State’s in a position where they

Need to win some games I promise you he’s not sitting that one um but yeah they got Jackson Davis is not with them right now is he I think he is I mean I I saw him on the bench uh he might be playing less since draymond’s been back

Uh which we had well I know that they had sent him back and forth a little bit for he might be doing I mean like you see what they’re doing with jarus Walker and Ben Shepard I mean jarus Walker gets set down for a noon game and brought

Back up at night you know I mean so it’s like obviously with G league and I think they should normalize this frankly um is you know like don’t you don’t think of basketball uh g- League the same way that you do as minor leagues where you

Got to send a guy away from week or something like that um you know and and he’s there as long as you want him to be there like with G Le I mean it can be like a ball you know I mean like Walker you know they have especially with um

With the with the Pacers and the matad Ants M matad an’s play at gainbridge now so like they can literally play a 12:30 game and then um you know come up and play at six at 7 o’clock it’s more like JV you know like it’s basically like the

They can play in the JV game you know is sort of what it’s like and then I don’t know how exactly how far away Santa cruises from uh San Francisco I don’t know my California geography that well um but you know I imagine it’s a deal

Where it it doesn’t take much for him to go down to Santa Cruz and come back to San Francisco with the Jersey on um you know so I think uh he he’s still obviously he’s still a really big piece of their plans um and a really big piece

Of their team certainly again like draymond’s gonna get the minutes as long as he’s up there but you never know I mean Draymond can get suspended any day of the week all things are possible you know like just just he he can get enough text I mean like it’s not you know you

Beatdown of any in any sport at any level I’ve ever seen they had 14 points at the end of the third quarter shoot but uh there was a kid that got to play the second half uh that never gets to play who ended up being the leading scorer for

The game oh [ __ ] lost him it’s all right I wonder why I noticed it happens to him not every time he’s on but every couple of times probably it’s probably his position in his house where he sits he needs to get a yeah a booster how much time do I have one

Weekend watching future uh who your Liam McNeely play and that was fun watching those games uh there are so many guys that Dustin is going to be covering someday probably [ __ ] Someday my butt in about a year three years yeah it won’t a Cooper flag first of all let me

Say I understand why he is the number one recruit in the country when you see him this dude is a a badass yeah uh he can he shot a three-pointer that looked so pretty it it it looked like it was you could uh get some Purdue engineers

To go down and and use whatever tools they use to see all right what where would a ball perfectly go through the rim right this this this three-point shot was just a thing of beauty on the inside he’s a monster block shots uh offensively you better be on him because

He will just get up and get in it this dude is one year away from playing for somebody that that you will be covering against next year without question this dude is is there uh Liam mcney great shooter great team player he does not force things uh he went scoreless on uh

Their second game he only took five shots wasn’t really feeling but he didn’t force anything and was still a major part of the game eight rebounds four assists uh so that’s what really stood out to me that was it was actually good to see him go scoreless and and see

How he still impacted the game game and wasn’t concerned about his own stats he was just doing things he comes back and is the leading score in the championship game uh so that says a lot and he did it by hitting he started that game off by hitting a big three-pointer right off

The top and had another and then added plenty of other things but um it was fun to watch those teams play yeah I got I I got to see them in Vegas um because they had a um Showcase Event um the day like during the inseason tournament basically

On the off day um between the semis and the championship uh they had you know I think monf was playing and everything I I I can’t remember who they I think they beat link academy uh I think who who I saw them play and um no I mean that I

Had similar thoughts about mcnean and I think like you know uh you definitely absolutely uh boy poor Dustin he’s having issues today uh and I’m next and when he comes back I’m going to to let him know that you know their next game ironically is against I mentioned this with Don

Against laloo Lau Mir up in New Jersey um mon verett is done at home their their home games are over they had senior night festivities there um I think I put uh a uh that out on Twitter of the guys going through uh their senior night deals and we’ve got

Actually more interviews coming with Liam mcney Derek queen as well just back with us uh yeah out Los Vegas yeah yeah yeah that’s right sorry everybody spotty internet today uh at the the PX ladyy household no I think um I but that’s just what impressed me about about him

Is is like you said he didn’t have to be uh Central uh to everything and and certainly they have so many good players on that mon verd team that he’s able to figure out what his role is I mean he doesn’t have to be Cooper flag he

Doesn’t have to be Derek Queen he’s not the focal point of anything but you know when he gets a shot and he’s available he can make it um and so obviously that’s what you’re looking at and saying man I you could really use a guy like that uh that that doesn’t necessarily

Need to have the ball in his hand all the time um just can can space uh you know can create gravity just by running around and um he makes a difference if he doesn’t shoot the ball and when he does shoot the ball you know he can d

Drill it and so um that’s just clearly a missing piece that you would you know think okay if you could just move that thing over there um it would be a huge deal but yeah I mean you think um it is obviously wild to watch you know these

Groups we’re talking about guys that are top 25 top 30 recruits um and you’re talking about their ability to not score you know their ability to be comfortable and um you know sort of patient uh knowing that they don’t have to be the guy all the time certainly because you

See um when you’re watching more you know localized high schools I don’t mean local high schools depending on where you are but like just basically you know for lack of a better term normal high school basketball teams uh if you’re a top 20 top 30 guy you feel like you’ve

Got to get 30 a night you know like you feel like that’s your responsibility because you’re certainly at a higher level than everybody else when it’s you and four or five other guys on your team that are top 30 um then Sean brings up a great Point uh he

Says he’s with Woodson he’s concerned that uh uh dag on it that uh Malik will not uh or that Derek Queen wouldn’t sit behind Malik he would play alongside I don’t know how that would a be possible B acceptable by Derek Queen he’s not I don’t think he is planning on

Sitting on any college team that he arrives to next year number one number two with the addition of Liam mcney if you have imbak I don’t know that that works uh Dustin back with us uh welcome back uh C uh I was just talking that uh you with the addition

Of or they’re Indiana trying to add Derek Queen from Mont ver Sean brings up a a good point that says that with Woodson he’s concerned that uh he wouldn’t sit behind Malik he will play alongside thus continuing the same stagnant offense Mike Woodson has put forth I don’t know how that would be

Possible when you’re adding Liam McNeely if McKenzie and bako is on this team there’s no way you could play both of those guys at the same time uh it just does not work have to have yeah yeah no I mean obviously you know certainly and and obviously I’ve stepped away from the

Beat so I haven’t heard as much as um you know uh of his rationals you know but obviously certainly been watching what they’re putting together I mean I think you know you got to go back to the beginning and remember that that he did intend uh to play a four out one in

Offense you know that was initially the goal um I don’t think he I think he just went out and got the best players he could get um you know I think that was sort of the view as like okay I’m gonna get the best players I’m gonna let the best players play

Um and I don’t think you can deny that Kell Weare and Malik Ren are two of his best players and so it’s a very difficult scenario to say all right well you know are you gonna put in another guy who’s not as good you know um and

And you know try to does it make more sense to run what was your initial offense or does it make sense to play your five best guys um and especially if your two best guys are bigs you know what what do you do with that um so he’s

Put himself in a tough scenario um and I think that goes back to sort of what a conversation I’ve I’ve brought up on here A bunch of times that I was never really concerned that he could recruit that he could convince guys especially that were professional level guy guys

That believed had had every right to believe they could be Pros um would you know I I always thought he’d be able to recruit them and and you know make the pitch that he could make them better the question is always what could he build around them with guys that aren’t

Necessarily NBA players how does he you know look at um how he fills out the rest of a roster and the rest of a lineup um and I think that’s been the part where that that he struggled so far is getting the pieces around um your Superstars to fit and getting you know

Star players that make sense together um you know as opposed to just getting star players um you know obviously like you can’t say that it made sense to not go get Malik Renu at the time or that it made sense to not go get uh Kell we at

The time you know but you know what you’re looking at now is is a pretty slow plotting team that doesn’t seem to have a sense of what it wants to do um and so and certainly doesn’t have any Shooters at all um I mean just going an entire basketball game without making

One single three-pointer is wild um at this day and age um and uh record-breaking yeah and as we talked about before Indiana went 14 years 14 years between not hitting a three-pointer in a game successfully and as a matter of fact you go all the way back to when

Uh Christian Watford was a sophomore and not only that I believe that class also had Mo Creek and Jordan halls in it if I correct uh Dustin I was talking about Indiana goes 14 years since they’ve not hit a three and that was uh Christian watford’s freshman year with Tom crean

But if I’m correct that also means that class included Mo Creek and Jordan Halls prolific three-point Shooters so uh it just nuts that it has been that long but it shows the lack of ability for this team and uh it’s just crazy to see that

But uh we’re gonna go ahead and take a am I back there you go he’s back and live okay hey let’s talk about the Super Bowl man the Chiefs and the 49ers uh the Chiefs never you could never be surprised that they’re in it but I expected better from uh from the

Ravens who were playing at home no less uh and but they just bit themselves in the ass uh when you when you have a chance to score and extending the ball over the goal line I I understand wanting to score but there’s three Defenders converging on you you you just

Cannot do that and this is the same guy who got a a flag for taunting on the same drive after making a tremendous play but loses 15 yards of it because he’s an idiot yeah that was not smart uh football by z z flowers not smart football at all that’s

Really tough I mean I I certainly get the extension uh uh certainly more than I get the taunting penalty the taunting penalty was really dumb I mean like you just you you gota you got to know time and score there you’re you’re behind man

You need a big play so bad just get up um and and you know get out of town I mean like you know frankly it it just struck you like the Xavier Johnson Tech uh at the end of uh the Illinois game uh at halftime of the Illinois game um and

So it’s like very similar like you made the play you’re in a position where you you cannot afford to take a step back and you take a step back um and it’s killer and I think again I get the I I get the extension it happens it’s a

It’s a guy trying to make a play you know and you’re you know you’re going on Instinct at that point like you’re not you’re you’re only thinking and processing everything so fast to realize there’s three guys there and you’re in danger uh you’re realizing like you need

To do something and you’re probably also thinking man I screwed up earlier so I got to get this ball in the end zone like I really got to do it this time because I messed everybody up and then you put yourself in an even greater you

Know even worse situation so yeah I mean that that that a lot of dumb stuff happened I mean I think um you can’t look at this game and say man Lamar Jackson can’t win the big one because he did some phenomenal stuff just phenomenal stuff um and you know got I

Hate the word let down um by his teammates but but in in a manner of speaking did you know basically like some things just went wrong on on some other ends uh that weren’t necessarily his fault I thought he made some phenomenal plays in that game and obviously I just saw highlights because

That was happening at the same time as Pacers Grizzlies but um yeah it was you know just a rough way to lose the game for Baltimore and and and they had put together a really really good team in it really heck of a season and I did think

Casey was vulnerable just because uh you know wide receivers have been you know have have not performed particularly well um you know throughout this year as good as Mahomes is still is and you know I I presume will always be as long as he’s playing football um you know they

They had some issues connecting on the other end for a lot of this year but I mean Casey I thought played phenomenal defense as well um you know Kelsey played really good ball and you know uh just you know in Casey got it together Baltimore just did

Not absolutely what is up next for you sir well we’ve got practice at noon I say we the media gets to show up at practice at noon and so we’re we’re hoping we get talkt what’s up I said very nice that’s something uh I I know

Not what you speak of uh practice we don’t get we don’t get to watch it we get to watch the shoot around afterwards um but they’ll let us and yeah we’re not getting to watch any that’s like watching that’s like watching stretching so sort of it’s better than stretching

Because they’re already stretched out and you just watch them make shots you know like uh and you see how they function on their own which is kind of fun you know because like basically this is after like Rick’s kind of let them go just to you know operate on their own um

And they they use you know their player the Player Development guys and assistance to rebound and everything like that but you see them just make shots um and you know just how they mess around when it’s not necessarily structured um and so it’s different when

It’s pros and that’s kind of fun um but yeah and see you know was like they have a bell that they ring if you hit 20 out of 25 threes because they do the you know five five five five five um and so we usually get in there right as buddy

He’ll rings the bell for the first time so um he usually enjoys that but no who should pick for the Super Bowl win uh I’m gonna I I think San Francisco is a better team but like Mahomes is momes you know and Mahomes in Super Bowl he’s

In the Super Bowl it seems like there’s just magic it’s it’s like Larry Bird in a championship you just cannot bet against him he’s gonna find a way um I I so I mean I’m I’m going with Casey on just that basis but you know if if you

See the entire like you just I mean there have been several games this year where you be like man he is throwing magic out there and it just you know Hitting off of somebody’s hands you know I mean like I I I almost every game they’ve lost that I’ve watched I’ve said

Upload uh Purdue having uh the season they want as of right now still uh at top of the AP Top 25 I believe right uh second they fell behind Yukon after the Nebraska loss oh okay I didn’t know if they changed it come out so uh Yukon is

The team I thought should be number one for a while just because they have just because of how they’ve been playing they they’re looked like to me the team that that uh is the most balanced and that if I had to pick today Yukon is the team I would pick to

Win the national championship but uh the NCAA tournament it is what it is and it’s a monster it it can shoot any any and everybody up at any given moment I don’t care who you are I wouldn’t know anything about that at all yeah exactly

To right it’s just and it’s nuts it’s uh it can and today and it keeps getting worse or better depending on your perspective which actually it’s better but it keeps getting more and more fluid it is that that equality is just reaching further and further out to

Where they’re used to be maybe six teams that that you thought or kind of knew was going to win the title that they were that that there was that separation and nowadays there may be some separation but that separation is not there’s not quicksand in between it’s

Still those teams behind them are like rattlesnakes they can strike at at a moment and and give you harm uh no matter who you are which to me that’s what makes the tournament great uh and we’ll see how that goes but uh Purdue sitting uh number two in the AP Pole

Right now and ironically still sitting number two in the the Big 10 Wisconsin leading the Big 10 still very surprisingly uh not that we didn’t think that they were going to be a good team we knew that but man they’re holding on this is kind of late in the season for

Them to be still holding on to that number one spot although obviously there are plenty games left for that to change yeah and this is going to be a big week for both Purdue and Wisconsin uh Purdue hosts Northwestern on Wednesday night obviously they’ve already lost to Northwestern in overtime

In Evanston not you know in a vacuum not a bad loss but Purdue does have two losses to Wisconsin’s one and that is the advantage right now as Wisconsin has gotten it done on the basketball floor uh Wisconsin has to go to Nebraska the other team that has beaten Purdue and

Then on Sunday assuming they both win you have a huge game in Madison uh where Purdue goes to Wisconsin and that is a game where if things go well this week for Purdue and they beat Northwestern Nebraska holds home court against Wisconsin if Purdue gets that game on

Sunday in Madison I think at that point they are the overwhelming favorite just because there would be eight games left they would have a one game lead they would still have to play Wisconsin in Mackie Arena um I think Purdue overall is in good shape right now but

Wisconsin’s schedule is a a bit easier than Purdue’s to finish it finish it um they do have to play Purdue twice they only have to play Illinois once they are done with Northwestern and those are the four teams that have kind of separated themselves out now as the top four most

Likely going to win the conference you’ve got Wisconsin has one loss Purdue has two and both Illinois and Northwestern have three but Purdue still has to play those three four times they’ve got two against Wisconsin they have to go to Illinois and they’ve got Northwestern at home so it’s not going

To be easy for Purdue but this will be a big week to decide if they are going to you know really run away with it or if it’s going to be a dog fight to the end it’s it’s really ironic if you looked at the Big 10 standings right now the last

10 games are very almost identical to the standings uh Wisconsin Wisconsin and purdo in their last 10 are both nine and one Illinois and Northwestern who follow are both seven and three then you have Nebraska and Maryland behind them in addition to Minnesota all three of those

Teams are six and4 Indiana behind that group is five- five so that group of teams their last 10 games are a microcosm of their entire season uh to me and so it is going to be a it is going to be a battle between Wisconsin and Purdue Purdue all the way

Through and it’s going to to be amazing to see who comes out of that battle um Northwestern is a team that that that can just uh they’re like a snake they they’re they’re because of their guard play they can bite anybody at any time North Illinois more of a grinder have

Gone through some uh adversity but they’re the kind of an amazing team to me because of the adversity they’ve been going through and still maintaining where they are uh and in addition they they got by Indiana over the weekend in a a very very tough game Indiana without

Kle wear that would have been interesting to see the difference had they had him um but it it’s it it’s it’s been an interesting season nonetheless yeah I agree and it it’s just going to be interesting to see how things do go out down the stretch you

Still got Michigan State I think is a dangerous team they were you know one of the co-favorites with Purdue in the preseason obviously their year has not worked out as you would think but they’re the kind of team that can spoil it for somebody and then um you still

Have Nebraska has an excellent homec court advantage Northwestern excellent at home unless they’re playing Chicago State for whatever reason I still can’t figure out that loss but it does not count against them in the conference standings and then uh you know you still got Maryland Maryland seems to be coming on strong I

Think they’re playing some pretty good basketball of late to get to five and five and again they’re going to be a team to watch out for that could beat you know they already won at Illinoi I’m not sure when they play Wisconsin or if they play them again but that’s another

Game Wisconsin’s got to watch watch out for yeah you know what I’m glad you brought that up uh because they’re they are a team of growth last year I’ve said it so many times they couldn’t buy a win on the road uh they couldn’t lose at

Home but it was like going to play uh you know Nebraska in the old days automatic win not now they beat they they won at Illinois a very very tough place to win uh I think they beat they won at Iowa uh again just winning on the road in the

Big 10 itself that’s hard to do and and a team that has not had success in doing that they are doing that and they are moving up the standings uh they’re one of those teams that they’re still they’re six and four in their their last

10 games but man they are they look like a team that is trending upward and if you’re a fan of that team there is nothing more you’d like to see This Time of the Season as your team is trending upward as you head towards tournament time right and you know I think they’re

One of those teams in the conference that can play themselves into the NCAA tournament right now you’ve got Purdue Illinois Wisconsin I think or locks Northwestern and Nebraska are in pretty good shape they could use some better computer numbers uh Michigan state is the computers love them because of who

They’ve played but I don’t I mean if they get if they were to get in if you name the tournament right now and you put Michigan State in it that is name recognition alone honestly yes I agree they have not played the the kind of basketball that I think is

Deserving yeah uh but Maryland is a team that can play their way in there and then I honestly like uh look at Minnesota look at what they’re doing at home they have already won more games in both the Big 10 and overall than they did last year they are an improved team are

They going to win the Big 10 no are they gonna make the NCAA tournament probably not but you’re gonna have to be on your guard if you go up to Minneapolis to play them and they can cause some problems they nearly knocked off Wisconsin last week too yeah it’s it’s going to be

Interesting to see who uh continues and who wins the Big 10 tournament uh uh everyone expects Purdue to to do that which and that very well may may happen uh but I think this year we there’s always the possibility of an up upset this year more so this year than any

Season recently because Wisconsin’s good uh because Northwestern can step it up because Maryland’s playing W better uh Nebraska is not a team that I think can can manage to get through all that I I don’t think Maryland can either it’s the only team I can see winning the Big 10 tournament is Purdue

Wisconsin um possibly Illinois but uh we’ll see hey that’s what it’s all about but we’re not quite there yet we’ve got a lot more games to be played in this league yeah and I think those are your going to be your three teams that are going to be there at the end Purdue

Wisconsin Indiana or not Indiana Illinois and ironically that is Purdue’s last two games of the regular season they go to Illinois and they host Wisconsin so it can come down to that final week uh depending on what happens before then so it’s going to be real

Interesting to see I you know that game at Illinois could mean a lot it could mean very little depending on how Wisconsin handles these next few weeks and how Purdue handles these next few weeks and then historically Wisconsin has not done well in Mackie Arena I

Believe all time in the 50 plus year history of Mackie Areno Wisconsin has won six times uh and one of those was an NCAA Tournament game in 2021 so uh they they certain it’s been a house of horrors for them but they have had at least a little bit of success of late

They did win there two years ago so if they’re able to win in Madison that game at the end of the season is going to be huge in westoff yet there are four teams that are undefeated at home yet uh right now in conference play uh five and0 are Wisconsin Northwestern and Nebraska

Ironically uh Purdue a 4-0 and uh Illinois forward one but we’re not even halfway yet we’re we’re one game short of being halfway which is is quite amazing it seems like we’re further along in the season than we really are yeah and uh I you talk about

Home versus Road one of the things that I think is neat is yesterday Purdue had eight guys complete what I call the Delaney does it uh that means they have won in their careers in all 14 Big 10 Arenas which as most I think on my sheet

That I’m tracking it there’s like 34 guys that have done it only eight H or only seven I think have done it not with Purdue and part of that is because Purdue has just defended Mackie Arena so well in the 14 team era Purdue has only

Lost 11 Big 10 games in the 14 team big in Era four of them coming in their one down year of uh 201920 so uh it it’s a it’s difficult to win on the road like you said and with these teams that defend home court so well they’re going

To be in there every single year I mean Purdue has won three big 10 championships in the 14 team era they have come a single play short of two more against Ohio State they needed one rebound to beat them in 2018 and then in 20122 that Miracle heave when they lost

At ruter if those two plays go another way Purdue’s got two more big 10 championships so yeah being able to defend that home court is so hard and I think it’s an incredible accomplishment that Zack Ed and Mason Gillis and Ethan whon and Caleb first and a bunch of

Other guys here have won in every single Arena throughout their careers Indiana has Iowa at home up next tomorrow night like I said uh I was stuck in and got a win last year did not expect that and see that coming but man they just bull rushed Indiana they got

Up and down the floor so many times it was like Indiana kind of lost track of them and uh that was a surprising loss for the hooers last year Iowa not quite as good this season season but they’re playing much better of late yeah Iowa Iowa basketball is the

Anti-erk far uh they are all offense no defense whatsoever I mean they they want to go out and beat you 99 to 97 and uh that that is the thing with them is if you find a way to slow down their offense they don’t have the defense to make it a

6560 game no it’s there’s going to be Point score you’re going to like you said they’re going to get up and down the floor and it it really is weird to think of it but they are the anti- Kirk faret with all off for basketball that is actually

Hilarious uh and they they kind of the same success factor yeah I would say ferret is a little more successful than uh than mcaffrey but I mean even that really good Iowa team of a few years ago that started in the top five I didn’t trust him because they never played

Defense at all and that’s what ended up biting him in the end yeah defense wins and whatever you’re playing um Purdue’s next game up against Northwestern one one of the bigger games in the conference because this involves a team in Northwestern that is still within

Earshot of of uh the top of the Big 10 they’ve they’re they’re six and three two games behind Wisconsin right now but uh they can stay in this if they can find a way to upset Purdue yeah and that would give him a season sweep of Purdue too so you’re

Looking at Big 10 tournament tiebreaker there two huge wins over a top five team for them in the season uh they got a lot to play for in this and it’s all house money if they’re able no one’s expecting them to win uh they did have to go to

Overtime to beat Purdue and Evon but they still uh took advantage of that game with boooo he was just phenomenal in the second half and down the stretch they turn they got Purdue into some turnovers and I think you saw yesterday one of the ways that you can beat Purdue

Is you throw a bunch of different defenses at him you make him turn it over Purdue struggled a little bit shooting the three and it kind of came down to one of those grind it out get the ball to Edy games and it was Purdue had just enough to do it against ruers

But uh Northwestern had some success doing that upep and Evans and they’ve got the talent to come in uh I do think Purdue is going to be favored just because I have a hard time seeing Purdue losing at home this year um they’ve just played so well in Mackie

Arena uh I can’t even think of a bad half of basketball that they have had yet in Mackie and really that that’s kind of been the difference is they had a bad half at Northwestern and they had a bad half at Nebraska well not necessarily a bad half Nebraska just

Shot the lights out against them but those are the only reasons Purdue is lost right now and they’re just a different team when Ma when things get rolling in macki Arena and I have a hard time seeing anybody walking in there and really taking it to him and take you’d

Have to take the crowd out of the game and get up early on him and while Northwestern has won five out of their last seven those all five of those wins have come in Evon save one uh against Maryland in Chicago so none of those

Wins were on the road in between the two losses they lost in Madison against the league leader uh Wisconsin but the other loss was in Lincoln at Nebraska again nothing to be ashamed of because Nebraska’s playing very well but they did lose uh or no they won at

Illinois that was a giant win uh in over Illinois at home they beat illo yeah yeah my bad my bad that was also at home in over and it and they had to take Illinois to overtime to do that uh but that’s still a really good win for

Northwestern uh bragging rights in the state of Illinois which uh that’s that’s not something that anybody is accustomed to Northwestern or not well no one’s accustomed to Northwestern NCAA tournament regular honestly yeah they’ve made it twice now in the last seven years and they look

Well on their way to a third one uh you just look at what Chris Collins has done up there I mean they were in the Big 10 Race very late last year and they beat Purdue uh they’ve beaten Purdue twice now when Purdue has been ranked number

One and this is I mean that is great if you are Northwestern you’re talking about a team that just was Mor abund for decades and I still think they have like a 90-year streak of not winning the Big 10 but to finally get that monkey off their back and get to the NCAA

Tournament and they’ve won a game both times that they’ve gone now so it’s not like they were just happy to be there no they’ve done a little bit of damage once they’re there so uh you’re looking at the Golden Era of Northwestern basketball which is incredible to say I

I can’t believe I’m saying that Indiana has a a home game again tomorrow night and uh they have got to bounce back from a tough loss at Illinois to where they played some of their best defense of the season and they were but they were without kle Weare obviously that made a

Difference their leading score uh and while they played him well and played him close at the end of the game it would they they let it slip away but they’re going to have to bounce back to take on an Iowa team who probably sees a wounded animal right now in Indiana and

They are gonna come in and try to run them up and down the assembly hall floor the bran MC crack Court I should say Indiana’s kind of in an interesting position right right now I think they should be a better team than they are and they they’ve had some moments you and everybody

Else well they they’ve had some moments where they’ve shown they can compete but they just lack that consistency right now um I was honestly shocked that they lost by 20 plus to Purdue uh I expected more out of that game I expected them to

Put up more of a fight in a huge rivalry game at home but Indiana’s shown that they can hang with the best I mean they they hung around with they hung around at Illinois um opportunity to beat Kansas yeah the the step for them is to start getting right at home defending

That home court getting some confidence there and then that can lead into getting on the road and getting a couple wins um it seems unlikely they’re going to go to the NCAA tournament this year uh without a solid win streak here but they they’ve got something to build for

And depending on who returns next year uh with uh jumping into the draft and I know they’ve got a good recruiting class it I mean they’re in a good spot to build for a solid season next year we’ll certainly see man I appreciate you look forward to the games coming up soon

Penn State on the road I’m gonna be looked at as being negative but again I’ll just go back to I don’t even look at any games I don’t care what the game is they have to become a team they have not been for every game this year you’re

Not wrong I mean that’s that’s how 10 of 11 you have to be somebody not but I don’t think you can do that for 10 times they they they do not I told you that a second ago I don’t think they could either I didn’t say they could

Well I know I I know that I’m not getting on you I’m just saying it’s it’s to me it’s pointless for anybody to talk about what it will take for Indiana to make the NCAA at this point then why play the season though what’s the why

You know I mean we we just the Bears are what we thought they were they’re what we thought they were we played them in preseason who the hell takes a third game in the preseason like it’s bull we played him in the third game everybody played three quarters the

Bears are who we thought they were that’s why we took the damn field now if you want to Crown them then Crown their ass but they are who we thought they were and we let them off the hook just love that insert the uh bears for hooers but not

In a good in the same way uh the hooers are who you think they are they’re a team that cannot hit free throws to save their life they’re a team that has zero perimeter shooting they’re a team that has mediocre perimeter defense and I’m sorry I don’t care how

Good their interior play is it’s not going to make up for the negatives because most teams they play may not be at the top on the perimeter but they don’t have to be they’re not at the top in the paint but they don’t have to be they’re balanced and balanced

Beats a team that’s in so far in the negative every time and I I’m not I don’t want to be negative but I’m not going to sit here and lie and act like it ain’t so you know what let them prove me wrong let them go out and win

Games it’s ironic though after all the criticism of Mike Woodson’s substitution patterns and his Flatout refusal to answer to it when asked about it but yet ironically if you notice it’s changed to the very way that most of us in the media and even fans have asked asked about why are you not

Doing this and yet the most success they’ve had is when they’ve done that very thing but there’s no acknowledgement I’m I’m not talking about acknowledging people there’s no acknowledgement that you know we’ve made some changes and it’s working for no no talk of that it’s just a lot

Of I’ll be honest with you it’s a lot of the same BS coming out well we we we got to do this no kidding everybody knows what you need to do at this point you don’t need to tell anybody even the most mediocre fan can see what you need to do you need

To hit damn free throws you need to have some shooting Todd ly in the postgame show talked about Indiana went 0 for9 it’s not that they’re 0 for n he’d rather see them be 0 for 29 nine 93 point shots is not enough what was what was Ill uh um dag G
