My name is Brian Fitzgerald – I’m an Australian full time golf coach living in Melbourne and coaching at the Eastwood Golf Club in Kilsyth..

FAQ:
How long have you been a golf coach? I qualified as a full member of the Australian PGA back in 1985. Wow I don’t feel that old.

Why do you make videos for YouTube? That is a great question and one I get asked a lot. I love helping people play better golf and people tell me I have a very unique coaching style that is very simple to understand. We really should do things simpler. I just make them to help people and if people like my videos they can either come for a golf lesson in person or if that is not possible you could join my membership program and I can then view your golf swing or any part of your game and really help improve what you do.

Do you always change some ones golf swing? To be perfectly honest I try not to. If I do try to change some ones golf swing I have to have a pretty good reason for doing so and the client has to be fully engaged and committed to both regular coaching and practice in order to make that change. Most people say they will do both with good intentions but most fall away pretty quickly.

So my preference is to change things that will improve their score easily. There are so many different ways to do this.

What do you film with? – I have a few few different cameras I use. An old GoPro Hero 4, an iPhone 6 and iPhone X, A Sony ZV1 and an old Panasonic Handy cam (I’m using that less and less now). I record my sound on an old iPhone 4.

What do you edit with? – About a year ago I switched to Adobe Premiere – prior to that it was Pinnacle Studio

Do you make money off YouTube? – Yes.It took me over 100 videos to make my first total $100 off adsense and then another 50 videos to make my next $100. I think it will slowly change, but VERY slowly.

I really enjoy your videos, how can I support you? – Here’s my ko-fi where you can buy me a coffee, beer or a burger should you wish (kind of like giving me a tip via : https://ko-fi.com/thegolfdoctor

Thanks for watching!
Brian

Okay so here we are at Eastwood Mel’s back in town how are you Mel I’m very well Happy New Year happy New Year 2024 is going to be the year we get that handicap down a few so where is it right now uh right now I’m playing off about

22 22 okay we’d like to get that down closer to 18 yes and one of the keys for you is to make better ball contact great get a few more yards if we can help it okay so just show us what you’ve been doing over the last couple of days

You’ve come to a bit of a realization uh I’ve been looking at uh my takeaway and uh one of the things I’ve always had is a problem with a bit too much active hands so uh too much turn in my so you’re Fanning the club open so I’ve got

This little tool let’s attach it to the club face okay now take it away and show us where you’ve been so you’ve had that magnet stick pointing up at the sky okay so really we want to get that magnet stick pointing there but for you to get

To that position you need to feel like that logo on the glove and your watch is pointing down at the ground so just take it back feeling that don’t look at the stick good okay do it again good so that feels very exaggerated but it’s actually pretty

Square okay so what we’re going to do going to hit a hit a couple of shots now feeling that that glove is pointing down at the ground now that is a really good golf shot what a beautiful strike compress the ball yep fantastic shot now do that feel like that club face was

Closed no no it it feels like you need to really work on it here and then let it happen okay it’s not open up I can really feel it when it’s there um but that felt just not too closed just okay so it felt Square yeah okay

Good well done because the problem with opening the club face if you could do that again just yeah do that so from here if you just release your hands half decently you’re getting back with that open Club face which leaks it out to the

Right too much so if we can get you in a better position going back you don’t have to work your hands is hard to hit it with a square Club face and you’re going to compress the ball it’s been very difficult lately for me to hit a

Drawer which I used to hit and I feel like those active hands has caused that it’s just impossible for me to get back no matter how much I try so yeah a so just get that closed feeling again yeah just pull that one again but really solid contact super solid contact but that

Would be a bad result on a golf course but at least it’s drawing and it’s feeling quite good I’ll just grab an alignment stick so one of the things that we could do to help improve that just to give you a feel for practice is I’m going to put an alignment stick just

Here into the ground so just feel you want to start it out right at the alignment stick don’t pay too much attention to it but you just want to feel I’ve probably got that a bit far left but we’ll see if it works okay good definitely some draw in

That which is nice to see the ball spinning right to left again now I’m just going to move this stick out here the other thing we did do before that we forgot to mention is we got to get those shoulders nice and square to start with

You do get them open yeah we don’t want to be there no that’s right so just Square them up and this will start down the right line now now absolutely drilled it I think that’s a really good start for the year and it’s going to help get

You feeling better on the course so then we can start working on other aspects of your game to lower your score thanks so just keep those shoulders Square we forgot to mention that last little bit it made all the difference and just take that club back feeling like it’s ever so

Slightly closed and you’re going to have a great 2024 hope so okay so if you want to lower your score I’m going to put a link to another video just up there I know is going to help lower your score

  2. Hey Brian,
It's good to see Mal again, and thanks to him for letting us in on his lesson. Great insight.
    Cheers
    Joe

  3. Great video again, actually had a similar problem with my backswing and made a slight tweak to my grip which changed the face and straightened me up. Just need to try to not over hit the ball as l hook it badly if l do. Keep the tips coming and have a great new year mate.
